Ranking the top 5 moments from “The 100” season 6 episode 10: “Can’t Do This Forever”

Happy Wednesday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s The 100 season 6 episode 10, I realized that “we can let the bad things that happened to us define who we are or we can define who we are.”  But it doesn’t hurt to have a little help or reminder from the people who love us every now and again.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Matryoshka,” the Lightbournes are out for revenge, which puts everyone in danger.  Meanwhile, Josephine and Clarke continue to struggle to survive and Madi refuses to listen to reason.  My top 5 moments from The 100 season 6 episode 10 are:

5

“The dream of Sanctum is already dead.”

After Marcus’s sacrifice, the Lightbournes are not happy and hold Abby and Raven as prisoners.  Simone decides to be extra cruel and tells Abby that her daughter is dead, which is not exactly true.  Abby has just lost the love of her life and the last thing she needs to hear right now is that her daughter is dead too.  Russell fears that the truth about the Primes is going to spread to his people and places Sanctum under lock down as a precaution.  Simone is out for blood and wants an execution, which puts the lives of our favorite characters in immediate danger, especially after Madi’s Dark Commander killing spree.

4

“The barrier between our minds is breaking down.”

Clarke and Josephine are running out of time and it looks like their only option is to team up at this point.  I’m not sure they will ever be friends, even though Josephine seems to think that they are somehow, but Clarke understands the importance of survival and begins to improvise to save them some time by deleting some of Josephine’s memories.  We get a glimpse into Josephine and Gabriel’s past and Clarke shows some sympathy here, but Josephine cannot be trusted and this body is not big enough for the both of them.

3

“Just take the flame out of her head.”

Madi continues to unravel in this episode, still under the control of Sheidheda, the Dark Commander.  Gaia is taken prisoner as well and recognizes the threat, but Abby will not allow anyone to hurt a child.  However, there is a sleeping army waiting for Madi’s command, which is not to be taken lightly, but perhaps there is another way.  Raven thinks that Sheidheda can be deleted, but let’s hope she is able to do this before Madi strikes again.

2

“The answer’s not immortality…it’s morality.”

Well said, Raven and perhaps this is just the advice Murphy needs right now, as his betrayal is about to catch up to him.  The group initially thinks that only one person will be executed and of course, Murphy is volunteered as tribute.  However, after a member of Sanctum stabs Simone, Russell is out for blood and it is announced that the entire group will be burned at the stake.

Echo can’t save everyone with her bow and arrow, but luckily a light bulb goes off in Murphy’s head, explaining to Russell that bone marrow can be used to make someone a Nightblood.  Abby jumps on board here and explains that she has the formula, which at least gets them 24 hours to convince Russell.  Our characters are safe, but Russell decides to make an example out of the man who stabbed his wife, brutally burning him alive.  It may have initially seemed like Simone was the bad guy, but Russell has a dangerous side as well.

1

“I’m not letting you go!”

When Josephine’s guards show up, it looks like Clarke is out of luck, but Bellamy is there to save the day!  Josephine is disgusted by the cliche, but he uses this as an opportunity to get a message to Russell, hoping to bargain with Josephine’s mind drive.  Bellamy and Octavia finally reunite briefly, but they need to put this on hold since Clarke’s life is in immediate danger.  Gabriel seems willing to perform the procedure to remove the drive, but he does not want to live forever anymore, explaining to Josephine that they already had their time together even though he has loved her for centuries.

During the procedure, Josephine tries to hide in the mesh of Clarke’s brain, hoping to eliminate her once and for all, but Bellamy refuses to give up on Clarke and tells her to fight.  Clarke destroys Josephine and wakes up, just in time for us to witness an absolutely swoon-worthy embrace between Bellarke!  Yay!  I’ll take any Bellarke moment I can get and this was worth the wait.  It’s great to have our girl back, but what will Russell do now that Josephine is gone?  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own theories and thoughts on The 100 in the comments section below.  Thanks for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 5 episode 7: “I’ll Hold Them Off”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 7, I realized that “all life is precious,” but it’s important to value your own life just as much as the lives of the people around you.  Sometimes it may seem like sacrifice is the answer, but “impossible shit” still happens so it’s important to keep believing.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Still Standing,” Alicia continues to take out walkers like a boss, desperately trying to get Annie and the other kids to come with her.  Meanwhile, Morgan tries to help Victor and Charlie, and Al opens up to June.  My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 7 are:

5

“We are both exactly where we’re supposed to be.”

In the beginning of the episode, Alicia takes out the walkers in her way and tries to get through to Annie and the kids.  She explains that she just wants to help, but Annie tells her that she never should have come there.  Meanwhile, Morgan tries to reach Victor and Charlie, who get creative when it comes to setting up a barrier to protect themselves against the radioactive walkers.  Alicia continued to impress me with her perseverance, but Annie was starting to really get on my nerves.  Alicia has placed herself in danger repeatedly to help these children, but is the risk worth it?

4

“I lied to you…”

We check in with John and Dwight for a little while and John continues to have second thoughts about showing Dwight the letter from Sherry.  However, he eventually hands him the letter and apologizes for not giving it to him sooner.  Dwight actually handles it remarkably well and focuses on the fact that he believes that Sherry is still alive.  He even points out that “impossible shit happens” so perhaps he will see Sherry again one day, but it doesn’t look that is going to happen anytime soon, as Dwight now realizes that he needs to help John.  I am really enjoying the friendship and bond between these two and I hope we continue to get some screen time for them.

3

“You are not dead yet.”

Morgan continues to let positivity be his guide, as he tries to help his friends.  After taking a quick tour of Grace’s house before using her truck, Morgan decides to suit up in his hazmat suit so that he can help Grace.  The generator has failed and they are running out of time, but Morgan refuses to give up on her, reminding her that her life matters.

Grace also gives Morgan some advice as well and tells him that “you think everyone’s life is more important than yours” and she may be on to something here.  It seems like both Morgan and Alicia are focusing so much on helping others that they are forgetting about their own lives in the process.  Morgan has been giving out so much advice in season 5 and I thought it was necessary and spot on for Grace to return the favor here.

2

“What do you say to someone who is missing a piece of themselves?”

One of my absolute favorite moments was when we took some time to follow Al and June.  The plane is out of fuel, but luckily Al knows where to find some after her encounter with Isabelle.  Al finally takes June up on her offer and opens up to her about meeting Isabelle.  Of course she doesn’t tell her everything, but she does take the time to explain that she felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time, but knows that she will never see her again.

June’s advice really touched me.  She tells Al that when she thought she would never seen John again, she was grateful for the time they spent together.  She chooses to still believe and tells Al that she will see Isabelle again one day.  While I’m not sure that we will see Isabelle anytime soon, I thought this moment was so real and touching.  It really spoke to me and I’m hoping that June and John are not separated again because I can’t handle it!

1

“I don’t know what you did but I know you made up for it.”

A group of walkers begin to get through Annie’s perimeter and the children are in immediate danger.  Max and Dylan beg Annie to just let Alicia help and she finally agrees.  Alicia runs across the bridge like a boss and takes out walkers left and right.  You can’t help rooting for her in moments like these, as she is a fighter and a complete bad-ass!  However, our girl Alicia is not invincible and she ends up taking out a radioactive walker.  The blood reaches her face and she recognizes that she has just been exposed here.

Alicia doesn’t give up; however, as she continues to give the kids a chance to get to safety.  Morgan radios over to Alicia at the end of the episode and she lies and tells him that she’s OK.  Morgan tells her that it’s time they start living their own lives in addition to helping others and Alicia agrees, realizing that perhaps she doesn’t have too much living left.

Alicia Clark is the heart and soul of this show and she is played brilliantly by Alycia Debnam-Carey.  She continues to impress me again and again and I am wondering what this means for the fate of her character.  Is there any chance that Alicia will be OK?  I’m not so sure, but I’m holding on to the impossible hope that she will be OK somehow.  Maybe the radioactive walker was marked in error or perhaps there is a chance that the blood was somehow not contaminated?

Alicia is the last Clark standing and I’m not sure that I can handle a world without her.  It was heartbreaking enough losing her as Lexa on The 100 and I can’t do it again here!  It looks like we have a lot of action coming our way in episode 8 now that the alarms have sounded, so we will have to stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own theories and thoughts on Fear the Walking Dead in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

My Ship of the week ending 7/13/19 on TV goes to…

Kane and Abby on The 100, better known as Kabby!  Kabby is such an underrated ship on The 100 and it doesn’t get as much attention as Bellarke or Clexa, but there is something to be truly said about it.  The love between Kabby is powerful and healing.  Both Kane and Abby have lost their way so many times and yet they find something so special with one another.

**Please note MAJOR spoilers are ahead if you have not watched season 6 episode 9 yet.  The journey for these two characters is truly remarkable, as they have both made so many mistakes, but yet they continue to fight to make things right.  Even though Kane may have the most to make up for from his time on The Ark, he has now essentially become the moral compass of the show.

In seasons 5 and 6, Abby has been broken, but Kane has never given up on her, which explains why Abby refuses to let him go in season 6.  However, I love that Kane doesn’t turn a blind eye either.  He does intervene and he tries to get Abby to see reason during her addiction in season 5 because he truly cares and wants what is best for her.  In season 6 episode 9, Kane wakes up in his new body and has trouble adjusting and accepting this.  Abby begs him to make the most of it, recognizing the potential for a second chance here, but Kane knows this is not right and he decides to bring everything full circle.

In one of the most heartbreaking moments I have witnessed yet on the show, Kane (as Henry Ian Cusick) says goodbye to Abby through the glass and tells her that he has always loved her.  He essentially floats himself, hoping his sacrifice will make a difference here and he brings everything full circle by doing this.  Abby has turned to drugs in the past, but will Kane’s sacrifice finally get through to her?  We have heard the phrase, “May We Meet Again,” so many times on the show, but it truly made an impact with me in this moment.

Henry Ian Cusick has confirmed that he is leaving the show, but I can’t really think of this as the end of Kabby.  Their love is so inspiring and I’m hoping that Abby will carry her love for Kane with her always, which will keep his values alive.  Kane has always wanted to make amends and do the right thing and he will never be forgotten.

Kabby’s love is transcendent of time and it’s difficult thinking about the show without it.  I almost feel like I lost a part of myself along with Kane, but I have a feeling that a spark has just ignited in Abby and she’s about to make Kane proud.  Thank you Henry Ian Cusick for so many amazing years on the show and thank you for bringing Kabby into our lives!  May we meet again.  Stay tuned!

Stay tuned for a recognized Ship on TV each week!

My performance of the week ending 7/13/19 on TV goes to…

“I make my own rules!”  You ladies absolutely do and that’s why I can’t just narrow it down to one standalone performance this week.  Let’s give it up for the amazing ladies of Stranger Things season 3 on Netflix.  In my favorite season yet, the girls pretty much stole the show.  They had me laughing, crying, and rooting for them against all odds.  These powerful and impressive female characters refused to sit on the sidelines, as they kicked ass and had fun doing it.  Let’s meet these wonderful characters and discuss why they are so fantastic!  **Please note major spoilers have been left out for your convenience so feel free to read on!

Stranger things shopping

Girls just want to have fun and I would absolutely love to go on a shopping spree with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Max (Sadie Sink).  I already liked these two characters and Millie Bobby Brown has impressed me since the beginning of the series, but the adorable friendship between these two made me smile so much!  Maybe the shopping spree montage was a little cheesy and over-the-top, but that’s why it worked for me.  Eleven is growing up and learning what it’s like to be a teenage girl and luckily she has Max to help her out along the way!

Robin 1

There is no question about it, our girl Robin (Maya Hawke) rules!  I absolutely loved the introduction of her character.  Steve could definitely learn a thing or two from her. OK, he probably needs to be completely schooled by her, and he is…on more than one occasion.  Robin is smart, cool, funny, and someone I could really relate to.

Erica 2

We all scream for ice cream and I want more screen time for another new addition, Erica (Priah Ferguson).  She may be Lucas’s little sister, but she is a scene-stealer for sure!  She was a little annoying with wanting to try every flavor of ice cream, but once she became part of the team, she was fantastic and had me laughing out loud constantly!

Joyce stranger things

Joyce (Winona Ryder) continues to remind us why we love her so much.  She’s loyal, intelligent, and she refuses to let anyone stand in her way…even the military!  Better watch out or she will give them a stern talking to, as if it is part of a parent-teacher conference!  But seriously, Joyce is such an amazing character and her quirks just work.  She’s fearless, caring, and hilarious in a subtle way.

nancy wheeler 2

I gotta give it up for my girl Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), who refuses to let being called Nancy Drew turn into an insult.  In season 3, Nancy has to deal with some beyond difficult and frustrating male co-workers, who had me pulling my own hair out in disgust, but she continues to follow her instincts, refusing to take no for an answer.  I have a feeling she will make a fantastic reporter one day, but I love that Nancy is living in a man’s world and shatters it completely.  She even shows off some impressive shooting skills, reminding us that she’s a complete bad-ass too.  Team Nancy Wheeler for life!

What’s next for the Stranger Things ladies?  We’ll have to wait and see, but I would love to see more screen time for all of these characters in season 4.  While I love all of the characters on the show, there has to be something said here for the girl power in season 3.  I hope that trend continues because these women are strong, powerful, intelligent, and beyond capable.  They are the super heroes of the show for me!

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Younger” season 6 episode 4: “BDE”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching TV Land’s Younger season 6 episode 4, I realized that “if you’re looking for trouble, you’re probably gonna find it,” but what happens when it’s finally all out in the open?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In Wednesday night’s episode, “An Inside Glob,” Kelsey’s stress begins to catch up with her, which causes her to get creative with some of her fashion choices.  Meanwhile, Maggie tries out an interesting home remedy, Josh bonds with his daughter, and Liza confronts Charles.  My top 5 moments from Younger season 6 episode 4 are:

5

“Money isn’t everything.”

In this episode, Kelsey decides to track down Zane at his new office and discovers that Mercury is based out of a community workplace.  Zane doesn’t seem to mind, but Kelsey wants to know where he is getting his funding from.  Zane reminds Kelsey that money isn’t everything and sometimes “it’s about charm,” but Kelsey doesn’t find this very cute at all.  Watch out, Zane!

4

“I don’t have that energy!”

Kelsey confides in Lauren about her stress over work and Lauren suggests she starts casually dating again.  She hilariously changes Kelsey’s work title on her dating app to “Creative Director,” so that Kelsey will seem more approachable, explaining that Kelsey has “BDE,” which apparently stands for big dick energy.  Kelsey seems excited for a new potential romance and decides to get her hair done for the occasion, but is in for a huge surprise, when she finds out that she is losing clumps of her hair and perhaps her BDE is really “Bald Dude Energy.”  Poor Kelsey.

3

“I really wanna be in her life full time.”

Meanwhile, Josh gets some quality time with his daughter when Clare has to work on a project.  Josh is absolutely adorable with his baby and even puts her in a baby carrier at work…although I’m not sure that the tattoo parlor is the best place for her, but Josh assures Clare that the buzzing actually puts her right to sleep.  Josh realizes that he wants to spend more time with his daughter and hopes that their upcoming divorce does not get in the way.  He asks Clare if they can do this parenting thing together and she agrees.  I’m just hoping this all works out for Josh because he seems so happy.

2

“Is there something you’re not telling me?”

Liza takes a minute to confront Charles privately and asks him if he is the money behind Mercury.  Charles comes clean with Liza and explains that he never wanted to give up publishing and was just trying to find the right moment to tell her.  Liza seems somewhat understanding after Charles explains that he wants something just for him, as he was always previously working for his father’s company, but asks Liza to keep this between them for now.  However, this puts Liza in an awkward position, as she will have to keep this information from Kelsey.  It’s only a matter of time before the cat is out of the bag.

1

“My hair is falling out because of you!”

Well at least we don’t have to wait that long, as Kelsey decides to go see the author who initially turned her down at her lunch meeting with Zane.  Liza tries to intervene, but it’s too late, as Charles and Zane walk in the door and everything is now finally out in the open.  Kelsey is outraged by this and feels betrayed, screaming that her hair is falling out because of them.  Unfortunately, that starts trending on social media, which is not the best look for Kelsey, but at least the author decides to stay with her.  After all, Kelsey did fight for her and is extremely motivated and capable.  However, we now discover that Charles has resigned from the board, which makes him their official competition.

It looks like things are only going to get more complicated now.  Competition may be healthy, but Kelsey is taking everything personally and I don’t really blame her.  We’ll have to wait and see how this all unfolds.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own theories and thoughts on Younger below in the comments section.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Scream: Resurrection” Season 3 on VH1: I’m Feeling Woozy Here!

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Do you like scary movies?”  I actually do and my favorite movie of all time is Scream.  I have probably seen this movie over 30 times now and I never get tired of watching it.  I love everything related to Scream…up until now.  It’s been about three years since Scream season 2 released on MTV and I was pretty shocked to discover that we were finally getting a season 3.  Only it’s a new network, a new cast, and a new story-line.  We were left with a cliffhanger in Scream season 2, but I was ready to give this season a chance and I was hoping for the best.

Along with the series, we currently have four movies in the Scream franchise so far, which makes me smile because I think about how Randy pointed out the rules of a trilogy, but I’m always up for more slasher fun in ScreamScream Resurrection features six episodes, which aired as a three-night event on VH1, premiering on July 8th 2019.  It stars RJ Cyler, Jessica Sula, Giorgia Whigham, Tyga, and Keke Palmer.

Our main protagonist, Deion, lost his brother when he was young after they went out trick-or-treating together.  In present day, Deion ends up getting detention with several other students, forming their own version of The Breakfast Club.  They rename it, The Deadfest Club, and are quickly targeted and stalked by a killer wearing the infamous Ghostface mask, as they realize that perhaps the killer is hiding in plain sight.

The Pros:

Ghostface

The original Ghostface mask and voice actor return.

I thought this was really cool and it gave me a lot of Scream nostalgia hearing voice actor, Roger Jackson, again, bringing back all of my “Surprise Sidney” feels!  It was genuinely scary and creepy hearing the OG Ghostface over the phone, so this really helped elevate some of the threats for me.

Tony Todd is awesome.

You gotta love seeing Candyman and I absolutely welcomed his small role on the series, which provided me with some genuinely entertaining moments.  Tony Todd is fantastic in everything and he knows how to really creep out an audience and he didn’t disappoint here!

The Cons:

Scream resurrection 5

The dialogue is bloody terrible.

I don’t think that I have sat through a show with dialogue this bad in a very long time and I was really working hard to sit through this, but some of these conversations had me pulling my hair out.  The jokes didn’t work and everything just felt so forced and uninspiring.  Even the pickup lines and pointless hookup scenes made you wish for some cheesy guy to come up to you and ask you if there is a mirror in your pocket.  That’s how bad they were.

The characters leave a lot to be desired.

The characters on season 3 even made it a point to say that they all fit into certain labels or stereotypes, like the goth or the jock.  However, even though they were aware of this, they didn’t do anything to actually separate themselves from these dull and tired stereotypes.  Deion’s backstory was just kind of meh and I found myself really struggling to connect with anyone.

Beth (Giorgia Whigham from The Punisher) and Kym (Keke Palmer from Scream Queens) had some glimmers of potential, but it simply wasn’t enough.  When you watch a horror or slasher movie, you want to have someone to root for and I simply did not care about what happened to any of the characters…at all.

So am I in or out?

Scream 10

Sidney Prescott called and she’s out and so am I!  Everything just felt so forced and dull.  There were even several attempts to chat about horror movies and different rules, but they didn’t work them in seamlessly, which made these references kind of pointless.  The kills were just OK and the reveals and twists at the end were just whatever for me and why did we keep calling the killer, “Ghostface,” like that was his or her real name?  Just call him or her the killer!

Stu gif 1

I was honestly so disappointed with this and I don’t recommend it to anyone unless you want to have a good laugh and if you do, watch Scream Queens instead, which is actually really clever and well done.  If you are looking for some slasher fun and gore, I would recommend watching Slasher on Netflix instead.  You might as well have a Scream movie marathon or even watch the first two seasons of MTV’s Scream, rather than waste your time on this.

Seriously, anything other than watching this.  VH1 was smart about turning this into a three night event or else I probably would have tuned out after the premiere.  I’m hoping that this doesn’t taint the Scream franchise because I am a huge fan, but I was just looking for so much more and unfortunately I didn’t get it here.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts on Scream Resurrection in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The 100” season 6 episode 9: “Redemption”

Happy Wednesday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s The 100 season 6 episode 9, I learned that “the path to the future goes through the past,” but once you face it, are you able to truly earn a second chance?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “What You Take With You,” the trippy weirdness continues, as Octavia takes a spiritual journey to discover the truth about herself.  Meanwhile, Josephine/Clarke and Bellamy try to find Gabriel and Kane is conflicted about his own second chance.  My top 5 moments from The 100 season 6 episode 9 are:

5

“You don’t want them to know the truth…”

Abby is beyond thrilled to have Marcus back in her life, but he is having a little bit of trouble adjusting to his new body and the actions that led to his return, which is to be expected.  Abby tries to tell Marcus that this is a gift and begs him to accept it, reminding him that he is the man she fell in love with and that this doesn’t change that.  Even though Marcus initially seems like he is trying to adjust, he recognizes that the Primes are lying to their people, as his host’s wife thinks that he is still living.  Marcus tries to keep his moral compass intact, but this is not an easy call, as he also wants to be with Abby.

4

“I won’t let you die.”

Meanwhile, Josephine/Clarke and Bellamy continue on their own journey together, as Bellamy tries to track down Gabriel.  Josephine asks Bellamy if they are going to be friends now, but it doesn’t look like Bellamy is falling for her act.  However, we do discover that Clarke can hear them and Bellamy takes a moment to tell Clarke that he won’t let her die, which was a swoon-worthy Bellarke moment for sure.  Josephine hilariously comments on how weird their relationship is, but their friendship has been through so much and I love every single moment we witness with them.

3

“Why can I see you?”

After the Children of Gabriel learn that Josephine is present within Clarke’s body, it’s off with her head…or almost, as Josephine reluctantly turns control over to Clarke so that she can escape.  Clarke shows off her kick-ass fighting skills and clearly has not forgotten her time as Wanheda!  Survival is important to Josephine, but Clarke begins to see Josephine right in front of her, reminding us that they are running out of time.  Clarke radios over a message to Gabriel and tells him who she is and that she has Josephine within her mind, hoping to find a way out of this, but it looks like Clarke and Josephine are both in danger here.

“This is how we get our humanity back.”

Kane’s uncertainty continues and he wakes up some backup to help him figure this all out…Indra!  It’s great to see Indra again, but she is shocked upon seeing Kane’s new body, but he quickly confirms that it is really him.  Raven is on board to help as well, as Kane realizes what he must do.  Abby is horrified to find out that Marcus plans on ending his life for good and speaks to him between the glass, desperately trying to get him to change his mind.  Marcus loves Abby so much, but he understands what he needs to do now, ultimately floating himself, but not before we see him in his true form one last time.

Henry Ian Cusick has confirmed that he is leaving the show, but perhaps we will see him again in a flashback or a memory.  “May we meet again.”  He will absolutely be missed and I am still incredibly heartbroken over this, as I ship Abby and Marcus together so much!  Kane’s fight may be over, but his memory will live on and I’m hoping his actions are enough to inspire Abby, so that she can find her own inner strength to stop the Primes before it’s too late.

“The anomaly gave me a second chance and now I need to earn it.”

The most interesting part of the episode for me involved Octavia and her spiritual journey into her past and the anomaly.  Gabriel induces a kind of sleep or trance to find out what she saw in the anomaly, but Octavia seems to go on more of a journey of self discovery.  We get to see Pike again, who sort of acts as Octavia’s guide on this journey, helping her tap into her past and her guilt.  Pike asks Octavia what she truly wants and she first says, “Forgiveness,” but then comes to the realization that she is actually looking for redemption.

In a heartbreaking moment, we witness Octavia seeing Lincoln right before he dies, which still brings me to tears even now.  Octavia faces off against the darkest part of herself, as Blodreina reminds her that “you are Wonkru or you are the enemy of Wonkru.”  I never get tired of hearing that.  After battling herself, Blodreina is no more, but Octavia Blake remains.  Octavia is a fighter and she is about to prove herself to earn back her second chance.

Can she truly be redeemed?  I’m not sure, but this is definitely a step in the right direction for her and it looks like things are going to get even more interesting when Josephine/Clarke shows up.  The anomaly has shown Octavia the way, but we still don’t know where Diyoza is and Gabriel still seems to be infatuated with discovering the truth within it, so we definitely have a lot more to find out.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 5 episode 6: “We’ve Done the Impossible Before”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 6, I realized that “more things are possible than impossible,” but what happens when you lose that last faint glimmer of hope?  How do you keep going?  Do you hold on to the dream or do you face reality and stop searching for the impossible?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Little Prince,” the group works together to fix the plane, but they are running out of time.  Meanwhile, everyone takes a moment to share something about their feelings, connecting to the people around them.  My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 6 are:

5

“Off the record…”

Al went through quite the emotional roller coaster in episode 5, but she is trying to stay on track now and fix the plane.  Of course that’s easier said than done, but we take a brief moment for her and June to talk.  June recognizes that perhaps Al went through something when she was taken and reminds her that she once allowed her to talk about everything off the record, now giving Al the chance to do the same.

Al doesn’t share with June, but I thought this was a sweet moment and I actually really like the friendship between these two.  There are a lot of similarities between both characters and they both know what it’s like to shut people out, but it’s great to see that they are now developing so much and growing as characters.

4

“If you don’t do what I say, there’s gonna be another meltdown.”

Even though the majority of the episode is focused on filler share time for the group, we do get some drama, as we get to see Grace again in this episode.  Grace radios over to Morgan and explains that she needs their generator because the one she was using failed.  Grace explains that if the generator works, it will buy them some time, but that they better fix that plane soon.  No pressure guys!

3

“These things are always complicated.”

During the episode, John and Dwight continue their search for Sherry and Dwight doesn’t seem like he is initially up for any over sharing.  However, John continues to open up to him and shows him the scrabble letters he carries around with him from when June first revealed that she loved him.  I think it’s beyond sweet that John still holds on to them and I am still shipping John and June so much!

Dwight recognizes that John is a good person and sees the world a certain way.  He finally opens up a little bit about Sherry and explains that “she chose to give up everything” for him.  John finds a clue in the diner and ends up discovering an infinity note from Sherry or “Honey” in the car.  He reads the letter and discovers that this is the last letter that Sherry plans on writing, telling Dwight that she wants him to move on.

Dwight can tell that Sherry was there and is clearly excited and hopeful over this discovery, but John lies to him and tells him that he didn’t find anything. While I think that Dwight has a right to get some closure here, John recognizes that something like this would completely crush him and he decides to keep that glimmer of hope still going.  Is it the right call?  I’m not so sure, but I completely understand where John is coming from and I think he did this out of the goodness of his heart.  Then again, Dwight also deserves the truth.

2

“Just make sure you’re doing what they really asked.”

While the group is trying to fix the plane, Annie tries to convince Max and Dylan to leave with her.  Alicia explains that it’s not safe and desperately tries to get through to Annie.  Annie finally releases the guard around her and tells Alicia what happened with their parents.  She watched them all get sick after they were exposed to the radioactive walkers and was told to keep the group of children safe.  Annie has been carrying this burden around with her this entire time, which is no easy task for anyone.  Alicia recognizes where she is coming from and tells her that she constantly thinks about the last thing her own mother told her.

Annie still seems convinced that the right decision is to go back to hiding behind the dead, but Alicia asks her an important question, wondering if Annie finds surrounding herself with the dead easier than surrounding herself with the living.  Alicia understands what it feels like to want to run away, but she has gone through something very similar and wants to help Annie too.  Annie and the kids ultimately leave, but Alicia decides that she’s going in, even though she will need to make her way through a large group of walkers.  While Alicia Clark is my favorite zombie super hero, she is outnumbered here, but it looks like she is not giving up without a fight!

1

“Roads are not a necessary ingredient to this journey.”

While the group is working on the plane, Victor, Charlie, and Sarah continue to try and work on things on their end, but they don’t know how they are going to get to their friends.  It seems like the answer has been in front of them the whole time, as Charlie shows them a picture of our dear good friend Jimbo, sparking the idea to use his inflatable beer hot air balloon to reach their friends.

It looks like everything is working out, but Victor cannot find the perfect “coaster” to land on, as they end up having to put the balloon down very quickly, losing contact with Morgan over the radio.  Victor and Charlie are completely surrounded by walkers and they know that Morgan warned them to stay away from them, but will they be able to get out of this jam unharmed?  Luckily, Morgan has a new staff and he is going in, much like Alicia.  Let’s hope he can reach them in time!  Stay tuned!

My performance of the week ending 7/6/19 on TV goes to…

Maggie Grace as Al on AMC’s Fear the Walking DeadI have been a fan of Maggie Grace since the days of Lost and I was beyond excited when she joined the cast of Fear TWD.  That being said, you never know how long a character is going to last on either show, but Al is proving to be a bad-ass survivor and a strong female character you do not want to mess with!  Please note some spoilers are ahead.

I have been intrigued by Al’s story since season 4 of Fear TWD and I find it interesting that she has been so focused on recording the stories of others, but yet she keeps a guard up around herself.  In season 5 episode 5, we finally get an Al centric episode and explore her character further, which is something I have been anxiously waiting for!  We learn more about her past, the mysterious Bog #7 tape, and we witness Al finally opening up to those around her, realizing that perhaps there is more than just the story.  There’s the chance at a future and Al realizes that shutting people out is not always the solution.

What’s next for Al?  We’ll have to wait and see, but she did lie to the rest of her group about the helicopter and her encounter with Isabelle.  We can assume that Al is doing this to protect them, but will keeping this secret cause more problems later on?  We’ll have to see how this unfolds, but I was extremely happy when Al decided to let the group know her full name:  Althea Szewczek-Przygocki.  Try pronouncing that three times fast!  Even though it may not seem like a lot, it’s a huge step for Al’s character and it reveals that she is finally ready to let others in…one step at a time.

Maggie Grace blew me away this week with her performance.  She was real, inspiring, and heartfelt.  I love TWD universe because it’s not just about the walkers and the chaos going around.  Similar to Lost, it’s about the characters.  As we peel back layers of their past, we learn more about them and start to bond with them so much, truly sympathizing with everything they have to go through and that’s what makes these shows stand out.  I don’t always connect with every character, but I have to say that Maggie Grace continues to impress me in every role and has really proven that she is an incredible actress with a lot of range.  I can’t wait to see what she does next!

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!

Ranking the top 5 villains from “Dexter”

Happy Wednesday TV Fans!  For today, I have returned to one of my old favorites, Dexter, as I recently finished up my complete re-watch of the series.  Even though Dexter Morgan is a serial killer, he is an anti-hero that you root for, but I have to admit it was difficult thinking about who is actually considered a villain or a big bad on the show, as it pretty much comes down to whether or not they are actually Dexter’s nemesis.

While some of these villains are brutal and vicious, others are meticulous and calculating, but they each test Dexter in different ways, bringing out emotions within him that he thought perhaps never existed.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the series yet.  My top 5 villains from Dexter are:

5

Miguel collage

Miguel Prado

Miguel Prado first appears in season 3 of Dexter and witnesses Dexter killing someone.  Dexter tries to stick by his code, but this becomes more and more difficult when Miguel takes an interest in what Dexter is doing, as he also feels that so many criminals escape the law and deserve to be punished.  Initially, there is a real friendship and bond between Dexter and Miguel, but this becomes more complicated when Miguel decides to deviate from the code, taking justice into his own hands.  As a result, Miguel becomes a major nemesis for Dexter and he is forced to end their friendship…for good.

4

Doakes collage

James Doakes

So, this one was tricky for me because I don’t really consider James Doakes to be a villain.  He just always sensed that something was “off” about Dexter and it turns out…he was right.  In season 1, Doakes seems to be getting close to discovering Dexter’s secret, but he actually finds out what Dexter has been truly hiding in season 2.  Dexter holds Doakes captive for a while, desperately trying to figure out what to do with him, recognizing that he is essentially innocent.  There are actually some real bonding moments between these two, but it comes down to survival here.  Of course, someone else ends up taking Doakes out for good, but Doakes is a noteworthy nemesis for Dexter and he absolutely deserves a spot on the list.

3

Lila collage

Lila

Lila is absolutely crazy, but that’s why she is just so brilliant as a villain for me.  Appearing in season 2, Lila actually becomes a love interest for Dexter…or maybe more of a lust interest.  However, Dexter starts to realize that Lila is actually very dangerous and tries to cut all ties with her.  Lila is furious to see that Dexter is rejecting her and doesn’t take no for an answer.  She channels some Fatal Attraction for sure, essentially stalking Dexter and targeting his friends.  It is also important to note that Lila is the first one who brings up the “Dark Passenger” that exists within Dexter, which I think is part of what drew him to her.  However, everyone’s passenger is different and Lila has a lot of screws loose throughout season 2, proving to be a dangerous and unstable villain.

2

Ice truck collage

The Ice Truck Killer

Who could forget the Ice Truck Killer from season 1, aka Dexter’s brother, Brian Moser?  I still think twice whenever I see someone with different colors painted on each nail and that’s because the Ice Truck Killer was a sick and twisted villain.  Even though the Ice Truck Killer is very creative with each kill, he also takes the time to leave little clues behind for Dexter, which sparks his interest.  This game of cat and mouse continues and when it is finally revealed that he is actually Dexter’s biological brother, I was completely shocked.  Brian never had someone like Harry to teach him how to channel his own rage, but he still tries to force some kind of connection with Dexter.  However, when it comes down to Brian or Deb, Dexter chooses his sister, holding on to the values he learned so many years ago.

Some honorable mentions before revealing my number one pick are:

  • Hannah McKay (although I don’t personally classify her as a villain, but she is a fantastic femme fatale)
  • Jordan Chase
  • Ray Speltzer (bull-head guy still gives me nightmares)
  • Travis Marshall
  • Maria LaGuerta (I don’t classify her as a villain either, but she almost took down Dexter so this is to be noted)
  • Christine Hill
  • The Skinner
  • The Brain Surgeon

1

Trinity collage

Trinity

Season 4 is such an amazing season and part of that is because the villain, Trinity, aka Arthur Mitchell, is incredible.  He is definitely Dexter’s greatest foe for me and he is responsible for the death of Rita, which still breaks my heart.  Dexter continues to chase after Trinity, intrigued by his own kill cycle, but he gets too close to him, posing as Kyle Butler.  Trinity’s kills are bone-chilling and creepy, giving me my own set of nightmares, but he also tries to play the family man, surprising even Dexter.  However, we quickly discover that he is essentially a monster to his own family as well, causing Dexter to practically throw caution out the window while trying to find a way to stop Trinity.  Dexter even has several opportunities to kill Trinity, but he doesn’t initially take them.

Later on, Trinity actually walks right into the police station and says, “Hello, Dexter Morgan,” now threatening to make things truly personal.  Even though Dexter is able to stop Trinity once and for all after he discovers his identity, there is a huge consequence, as he loses Rita in the process.  Dexter blames himself for her death and begins to question everything about himself and the code as a result, making Trinity’s actions that much more destructive in the end.  He is played brilliantly by John Lithgow and will always be one of the greatest villains on any television series for me!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to share some of your own thoughts and comments on your favorite villains from Dexter. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
