Spoiler-Free Review of “The Stranger in My Home” on Demand: Sophia Bush Stars in this Soapy Thriller

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I feel like every choice I’m making is wrong…”

The Stranger in My Home premiered on Demand on June 24th 2025. The drama thriller film stars Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill), Chris Carmack (The O.C.), Amiah Miller, and Chris Johnson. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty-five minutes.

A family’s world is turned upside down when a stranger knocks on their door and claims that their daughters were switched at birth.

Here is the trailer:

The Stranger in My Home is very lifetime-esque with over-the-top twists and soapy drama, but Sophia Bush elevates it as much as she can. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Queen Sophia Bush!

I’ve been waiting for her to make a return to film and was so excited to see her in this. She really gave this film her all and honestly made it a better watch because of her talent and charisma. I am a big fan and hope to see her in more films in the future. She does excel in the horror/thriller genre. Welcome back, Sophia Bush!

A few juicy twists.

I wouldn’t say that they were that great honestly, but there were some soapy ones thrown our way, which helped this watch a little bit. If you love lifetime movies, this one would be right up your alley.

The Cons:

Some terrible acting and dialogue…

Sophia Bush and Chris Carmack did the best with what they were given, but I really struggled watching the rest of the actors in this. The acting was so over-the-top and ridiculous and some of that dialogue was really out there.

I also thought these characters made some of the WORST decisions ever, but I guess we wouldn’t have a movie without them…

Takes too long to get to the hook!

My other issue was we had to wait 55 minutes before we actually got to the thrilling parts of this movie. There was a lot of unnecessary fluff to sit through. I was cheering for our girl once we finally got there, but it took way too long!

So am I in or out?

I’m 50/50 on this one…

The Stranger in My Home is a by the numbers thriller with too much unbelievable nonsense, but it was great seeing Sophia Bush on the screen again!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Hold Your Breath” on Hulu: Sarah Paulson Inhales Too Much Dust

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“There’s always a storm coming…”

Hold Your Breath released on October 3rd 2024 on Hulu. The psychological horror drama film stars Sarah Paulson, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Amiah Miller. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty-four minutes.

Set in 1930’s Oklahoma, a woman is convinced that a sinister presence is threatening her family during a series of dust storms.

Here is the trailer:

Hold Your Breath features a solid performance by Sarah Paulson, giving us some eerie vibes to appreciate, but is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Sarah Paulson delivers.

This really should come as no surprise. Sarah Paulson is exceptional in absolutely everything. I thought she had a strong presence in this film, elevating the plot in so many ways. She could have easily gone off the rails with this character, but she remained convincing and compelling, holding my attention until the very end.

Creepy moments.

This film did a solid job with its terrifying elements. I’m always a fan of the moments that don’t reveal everything out in the open and I thought this film effectively channeled that for the most part. While I had my theories about what was going on, there were some scenes that really went for it without holding back, luring me into the bizarre madness circling this family.

The Cons:

Predictable reveal.

Be prepared for a slow burn here. There were some pacing issues to deal with, but I was hoping we would get a mind-altering reveal. The reveal was fine, but I could see it coming a mile away, which was disappointing. Sarah Paulson was really good in this so I guess I just wanted a better movie for her. This wasn’t awful by any means, but it never really ignited a spark of brilliance and I think it could have with a little more effort behind the plot.

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

Hold Your Breath effectively creates some eerie and terrifying moments with Sarah Paulson front and center, but it loses steam as everything is revealed.

This film was decent enough for a watch, but I’m not sure that I would go back to it again.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Hold Your Breath in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “My Best Friend’s Exorcism” on Prime Video: YA Friendly “Jennifer’s Body” has some Potential

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“We’ll always be friends…”

My Best Friend’s Exorcism released on Prime Video on September 30th 2022. Based on the novel of the same name, the teen horror comedy stars Elsie Fisher, Amiah Miller, Chris Lowell, and Rachel Ogechi Kanu.

Set in the 1980’s, the friendship between Abby and Gretchen is tested when one of them gets possessed by a demon.

Here is the trailer:

My Best Friend’s Exorcism has a cute premise with a killer soundtrack, but does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Fun idea with a great soundtrack!

This film was pretty much a mashup of Jennifer’s Body and Saved! If you enjoy those films, you’ll find some decent content here, but the scares are really watered down. I am a big fan of the author, Grady Hendrix, and I had high hopes for this one. It did have plenty of entertaining moments to enjoy even though the plot went off course as the film continued…

Believable performances and a friendship to root for.

The friendship between Abby and Gretchen kept me around until the end. I thought both actresses did a really great job and Chris Lowell was a scene-stealer! Some of the issues seemed heavily based in tropes and you’ll get your typical high school drama in this one, but the friendship made it feel more authentic at times.

The Cons:

Watered down scares…

I wouldn’t have minded the watered down scares so much since this was more of a YA film, but there were a few scenes that had the potential to be really incredible if they had gone a little bit darker with them. Don’t expect to see too much horror in this one, although there are some glimmers here and there.

The plot also went off the rails, which was disappointing, especially since it started off really strong and with a lot of potential. I think it still found its way in the end, but I’m not sure it really honored the novel as well as I wanted it to.

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

A fun idea with a believable friendship, but it needed a little more edge at times. Overall, this was a decent watch, but I just wanted a lot more.
