Spoiler-Free Review of “Superhost” on Shudder: Bloody Campy Fun

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“It’s going to be such a memorable stay…”

Superhost released on Shudder on September 2nd 2021. The film stars Osric Chau, Sara Canning, Gracie Gillam and Barbara Crampton. It runs for an hour and twenty-three minutes.

A couple decides to book an Airbnb to help revive their travel vlog. After several weird encounters with their host, Rebecca, they start to realize that they may be in immediate danger.

Here is the trailer:

Superhost reminds us that perhaps staying in a stranger’s house is never a good idea, but does this film do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Shudder

A creepy, deranged performance worth noting.

Gracie Gillam is so fantastic in this film. She really gives this role her all and she is the best part of the movie. Rebecca is out of her mind and just from the trailer you can clearly see that she is not quite adjusted, but it just works and it provides us with some crazy bloody fun!

The rest of the cast is really great as well. We have Supernatural’s Osric Chau, TVD’s Sara Canning and the iconic Barbara Crampton, who lights up the screen whenever she’s on it. More please!

Seamlessly blends two intriguing premises.

The film has many chilling moments throughout the first half. It takes an already scary premise (staying in a stranger’s house) and reminds us that perhaps this isn’t the best idea…especially if you are being a watched. Similar to Dave Franco’s The Rental, our main characters quickly learn that something beyond disturbing is going on during their vacation stay.

I also like that the film also incorporated the Vlog aspect to make it relevant. I’ve seen this in many films before, but this film did a good job of reminding us about the danger of needing to be validated or liked online. Our two main characters struggle with the reality of their situation because they are so motivated to do something to impress their viewers, which can lead to deadly consequences.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Shudder

Needed a bit more in the first half.

The movie is very short which kept the pacing going, but there were some initial chills in the beginning that could have been explored more. The second half of the movie is really strong and I was hooked the entire time, but I wanted a little bit more build up to really make the second half pop.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

This film is really entertaining. It had some chilling moments, a bloody campy feel, and a Superhost to die for! But don’t forget to leave her a good review…

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Superhost in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Walker” on The CW: Thoughtful character, but in need of more action!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Just Walker is fine…”

Walker premiered on The CW on January 21st 2021 with the pilot episode. New episodes will continue to air weekly. The series stars Jared Padalecki, Lindsey Morgan, Keegan Allen, and Violet Brinson. Each episode runs for approximately 50 minutes.

This show is a reboot of the iconic Walker, Texas Ranger starring Chuck Norris. It is clear from the pilot episode that we are getting a much more thoughtful lead character who seems to be more about family than he is about action, but it looks like we may be able to squeeze in that roundhouse kick…just not the way you were expecting.

Here is the trailer:

Walker has the opportunity to bring the classic show to a new audience with a modern perspective, but does it pack enough punch to keep us coming back for more? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Walker spoiler free review

Fandom friendly cast.

We have Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki, The 100’s Lindsey Morgan, and Pretty Little Liars’s Keegan Allen. That’s bound to get this show some serious ratings and I have to admit it’s the main reason I tuned in. I watched the original show when I was younger, but I haven’t been entirely convinced about this show just yet.

Jared Padalecki needs to find his groove and abandon Sam Winchester a little bit more and I would love to see Lindsey Morgan’s character, Micki really show everyone who the real bad-ass is. Seriously, she’s my favorite part of the series right now!

Not just a carbon copy of the original.

I appreciate that this show is taking a different approach. However, I’m not sure that it is meeting the mark just yet and it is coming off as a watered down version of Justified without enough going on.

I think the show feels a little bit closer to shows like Brothers and Sisters and Everwood, but it’s still trying to figure out its own identity.

It has some big shoes to fill, but I think it does have the potential, but let’s hope it doesn’t take too long to reach it.

The Cons:

Walker spoiler free review 2

Where’s the action?

It took a solid thirty minutes before we got an actual fight scene that was just kind of meh and then when we got to the fight later on, Lindsey Morgan’s character stole the show. While I am all for a more thoughtful, modern take on everything we need a lot more action…like way more…

So am I in or out?

Walker spoiler free review 3

I’m about 50/50 on this one.

I love Jared and Lindsey so I am tempted to keep watching, but this show is off to a very slow start and it is frustrating because I think it can be so much better. There needs to be more fight scenes, more action, and less forced screams into the sky. I’m being hard on the show because I want it to do well and even though I know this show will get good ratings because of the cast, we deserve more! I’ll give it a few more episodes, but let’s hope things pick up soon!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Walker in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top Couples on Television for 2020: Ships that will warm your heart all year round!

As the New Year quickly approaches, it really got me thinking about some of my absolute favorite couples or ships on television. Whether it was a moment of passion, a first kiss, or a love built on friendship, there were many ships that had my heart skipping a beat, as I gasped for air and fell in love along with them.

It was difficult for me to narrow down my favorite ships for 2020 and I didn’t think it was possible for me to choose my absolute favorite one, which is where you came in!

I ran a three round poll (randomized tournament style) on Twitter and asked for fans to cast their votes for their favorite ships of the year on TV.  Thank you so much for your participation and support, as the tournament was so much fun and actually really competitive!

*This was actually the biggest response I have ever gotten on one of these and we ended up having over a thousand votes in the final round! Amazing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Truth Seekers” on Prime Video: The Paranormal can be fun

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

The dream team is back!

Truth Seekers premiered on Amazon Prime Video on October 30th 2020 with eight episodes available to stream now. The series stars Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, Samson Kayo, Malcom McDowell, and Emma D’Arcy. Each episode runs for approximately 30 minutes.

The show is about a group of part-time paranormal investigators who uncover several mysteries involving ghost sightings.

While you may know Nick Frost and Simon Pegg best from Shaun of the Dead, this show tends to follow a different path despite its horror comedy label.

Here is the trailer:

Truth Seekers has all the ingredients to quickly become a cult favorite among fans, but can Nick Frost and Simon Pegg pull off this mystery while maintaining their dry sarcastic humor? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Truth Seekers Prime Video

Images courtesy of Prime Video

The perfect balance of paranormal mystery and quirky fun.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I started this show, but I was surprised at how quickly I became obsessed with it. I actually watched all eight episodes in one sitting and part of that is because of this balance. Sure, there are plenty of moments that will make you chuckle and laugh out loud, which we have come to expect from both Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, but the mystery itself is actually really good.

There are some investigations that are a little bit silly, bringing a welcomed SPN Ghostfacers vibe into the mix, but once we start unraveling the pieces behind the main mystery, I was hooked!

Truth Seekers Prime Video 2

Supporting characters are a delight.

I was slightly disappointed when I realized that Nick Frost and Simon Pegg would not be working together on the paranormal team. Simon Pegg plays Nick Frost’s boss, but I changed my tune when I was introduced to the supporting characters of the show who really lit up the screen and added to the dynamic perfectly.

The Cons:

Truth Seekers Simon Pegg Prime Video 3

Simon Pegg’s wig…

Honestly it’s the only con I can come up with and they even poke fun at it later so I can’t really say that much about it, but it was really distracting!

So am I in or out?

Truth Seekers Prime Video 4

I’m in!

I loved this series from start to finish. It was the perfect binge-watch and it was actually really cool to see Nick Frost and Simon Pegg in something a little bit different. They really nailed the paranormal investigator vibe while managing to sprinkle in their well-known humor. Bring on season two!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Truth Seekers in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Thank You “Supernatural.” Season 15 episode 20 Series Finale: “Carry On”

Happy Friday TV fans! Well this is it. 15 years of watching the Winchester brothers hunt monsters and the end is finally here. But was it everything you wanted in a series finale? After watching The CW’s Supernatural season 15 episode 20, the show returned to its roots and reminded us that in the end…it’s all about family.

Please note MAJOR SPOILERS are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In episode 20, “Carry On,” Sam and Dean cope with life after the defeat of Chuck. Their lives have become somewhat routine, but there is a glimmer of potential when a new case gets thrown their way.

For today, I’m not going to rank my top moments from the episode. Rather, I want to simply reflect on what I witnessed and thank the Winchester brothers for having such an impact on me for 15 long years.

So I knew that the series finale would feel different. The writers hinted that it would give fans of a feeling of nostalgia and I think that it did achieve that along the way. We got to see Dean line up to try every pie imaginable at a festival and even Sammy had some fun as well.

The episodes of SPN that have always done well were the weekly ones that took a break from the heavy plot points. The ones that just focus on Sam and Dean taking Baby out for a ride to hunt some monsters and save some people along the way.

Well, that’s what we got, but it took an unexpected turn…

After tracking down a nest to help two boys in need, Dean realizes that something has stabbed his back and that he is fading fast. He gets the chance to tell Sam everything he needs to before he dies, which was heart-wrenching to hear…especially when Sam told him that it was okay and that he could go, honoring Dean’s request.

While this was incredibly moving and well portrayed by both actors, I kept sitting there wondering if this was all some kind of cruel joke. Is this really how we want to watch Dean die? Honestly, I thought he deserved much better than this. I get what the writers did. They wanted Dean to die on a routine hunt instead of making it some kind of grand gesture like with Castiel, but really…

Dean 1

Sam is left behind with Dean’s dog (so glad he was in the final episode) and he gives him a hunter’s funeral. We get a montage with a heavy Kansas soundtrack and watch Sam carry on with his own life without Dean. He still fights the good fight, but he also has a child named Dean and a wife…who is not Eileen?! Seriously…what is going on?

Supernatural Sam and Son

Meanwhile, Dean is up in heaven and it made perfect sense to have Bobby as his guide. We learn that heaven is quite different now thanks to Jack and Castiel.

Supernatural Dean Bobby

OK…so how about we see Jack and Castiel? Mary…John…Crowley…hello, anyone?!

Sam lives out his life and we have to witness his sad excuse for a wig when he walks in the garage to see Baby again. When he is on life support, his own son tells him that it is okay and he can go, bringing things full circle.

Dean has been riding around in heaven and when he gets to the bridge, he turns around and says, “Hey Sammy.”

Sam and Dean

This was probably the only brilliant moment of the episode for me. In the end, the show has always been about the love that these two brothers have for one another and I appreciated this reunion at the end.

However, are we really going to leave Castiel out in the cold?

This really got me thinking about other disappointing series finales of brilliant shows. The 100, Game of Thrones, and Dexter come to mind. It may come down to personal preference and I am sure a lot of fans did enjoy the episode, but I guess I just thought we were going to witness something truly beautiful and epic.

Don’t get me wrong…the intention was there. I saw it and I thought the ending shot was truly wonderful. However, the execution in so many parts was lacking and this was an issue for me.

I started to think about how the show could have ended and even the season finale episode would have worked better. You could have just had Sam and Dean riding off into the sunset to continue fighting the good fight, free to write their own stories.

Or, you could have ended the show with the 300th episode, having the Winchester family sit down for supper.

Sam and Dean 2

Images courtesy of The CW

I just don’t know how I feel about this, but I am not going to let it taint my overall opinion of this show. When I think about Supernatural, it has a special place in my heart and it always will.

This show has lasted so long because of the love between these brothers and I am forever grateful for the laughs, tears, and memories along the way.

Thank you, Supernatural. You will be missed…but never forgotten.

Carry on…

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 15 episode 19: “Inherit the Earth”

Happy Saturday TV fans! After watching The CW’s Supernatural season 15 episode 19, I learned that “when people have to be their best, they can be…and that’s what they’ll believe in.”

Please note MAJOR SPOILERS are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In episode 19, “Inherit the Earth,” Sam, Dean, and Jack fear that they may be the only people left on earth. Meanwhile, some more frenemies show up to make things even more complicated.

My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 15 episode 19 are:

5

“We’ll give you what you want.”

After Sam, Dean, and Jack quickly cope with the fact that everyone is gone…including Castiel, they realize that they may be out of options. We get a glimmer of hope when Dean finds an adorable dog, but of course Chuck makes him vanish as well.

Supernatural season 15 episode 19 Dean with Dog

Images courtesy of The CW

Come on, Chuck!

Sam and Dean basically surrender to Chuck and tell him that they will do whatever he wants if he just puts everything back to the way it was.

Only Chuck doesn’t seem too interested and tells them that he likes this story now.

Let’s hope they can get Chuck’s death book open…

4

“Wow…way to treat a pal!”

We quickly find out that Sam, Dean, and Jack aren’t the only beings left on earth as Michael shows up with perfect timing to help them out. Michael is in Adam’s body and tells them that he vanished too, but can we really trust him at this point?

Meanwhile, Dean gets a phone call from Castiel and we hear his voice, but we know that it’s not Cass…and in walks another familiar face…Lucifer.

Lucifer is one of the best villains on any show and I’m always happy to see him, but we know that he definitely has some tricks up his sleeve.

Supernatural Lucifer

Images courtesy of The CW

After crowning a new reaper as death, they are able to get the book open, but Lucifer kills her before she can read the words out loud and double crosses them, explaining that Chuck is the one that pulled him off the bench in the first place.

We get this ultimate power struggle between Michael and Lucifer as Sam and Dean come up with a plan to create some kind of a ritual circle to get the book open.

3

“That’s not who we are…”

Chuck shows up during the ritual and starts beating the crap out of Sam and Dean, claiming he is cancelling their show.

Only the Winchester brothers are not out of complete luck, as they planned this from the start. They reveal that they knew Michael would double cross them and inform Chuck, explaining that after Jack returned from The Empty, he became some kind of power sucking vacuum.

Supernatural Jack season 15 episode 19

Images courtesy of The CW

That explains what we saw in last week’s episode with plants and living things basically disintegrating at Jack’s touch.

Jack absorbed the power from Lucifer, Michael, and even Chuck himself when he started beating on Sam and Dean, which now makes him powerful enough to stop Chuck once and for all.

Chuck seems overly entertained and shocked by this ending, excited to find out who will end his life, but Sam and Dean tell him that’s not who they are. Chuck will live out his life as a mortal and die…lost and forgotten.

Great twist, guys!

2

“He got us back online.”

With this act, we learn that Jack is basically the new God, which I thought was fitting in a lot of ways. I was actually really sad when Dean asked him to come back home, realizing that Jack would not be a direct part of this family anymore, but we know that he will always be present.

But I do have some questions. Jack was able to restore the world and we even see the dog return, but what about Castiel?

Does he have the power to bring him back? There are some other characters that still haven’t shown up in a while either. I’m hoping we get to see both Rowena and Crowley in the series finale, but I’m honestly not sure.

This episode was basically a season finale, but we still need to wrap things up. I’m thinking the series finale is going to bring us back to the very beginning, providing fans with the SPN nostalgia we know and love.

1

“Finally free…”

At the very end of the episode, Sam and Dean discuss what happened and realize that they are finally free to write their own story. They take a moment to remember everyone they have lost and we even get these entertaining flashback clips of some of our past favorite characters over the seasons.

In a lot of ways, this episode felt like the end, but I still want one more episode.

Stay tuned SPN Family! The series finale of Supernatural airs next week!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 15 episode 18: “Despair”

Happy Friday TV fans! After watching The CW’s Supernatural season 15 episode 18, I witnessed one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking episodes on television of all time and I’m still not even sure if I’m ready to talk about it…

Please note MAJOR SPOILERS are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In episode 18, “Despair,” Jack’s life hangs in the balance as Sam, Dean, and Castiel try to figure out a way to stop Billie from reaping their friends. Meanwhile, some old friends return and an earth-shattering choice is made.

My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 15 episode 18 are:

5

“What do we do?”

The beginning of the episode starts off exactly where we left off. Chuck is gone for now and Jack is ready to explode…literally. Dean tells Jack they are not giving up on him, showing just how much he truly cares about him while Billie shows up with perfect timing.

SPN Season 15 episode 18

Images courtesy of The CW

Billie explains that everything was doomed because of the Winchester brothers and sends Jack to The Empty so that the explosion can be somewhat useful. We quickly find out that Jack is still alive, but now everyone has a new catastrophic problem to deal with…

4

“I didn’t know who else to call…”

Other Charlie makes an appearance in this episode and is enjoying some breakfast when her girlfriend vanishes right in front of her almost in Avengers: Infinity War style.

Charlie calls Sam and Dean and asks them why she was taken and not her, which is a very good question. Sam and Dean realize that Billie will be going after anyone who has ever been resurrected or lived in another world, which puts other Bobby and Eileen in immediate danger.

SPN Season 15 episode 18 Charlie

Images courtesy of The CW

Sam tries to reach Eileen by text as they head her way, but she also vanishes and Sam’s reaction was heartbreaking, but he recognizes that he needs to temporarily push his grief aside to help everyone else.

So sorry, Sammy!

3

“We care about you because you’re you.”

Jack begins to feel useless, but Castiel presents us with another fatherly motivational speech, reminding him that they don’t care about him because he is some kind of weapon. They care about Jack because he is family and I thought this was really important for Jack to hear right now.

There’s already a lot of emotions stirring in this episode for sure.

2

“Let’s go reap a reaper.”

Sam and Dean split up to deal with Billie. Castiel says that he will go with Dean and Jack and Sam call up Donna to get everyone to a safe house of sorts, but things start to go horribly wrong.

Dean is able to fatally wound Billie, but she is not going to die without taking Dean with her. Even though Billie is the immediate threat, she does tell them that she is not the one going after their friends, suggesting it is Chuck cleaning up the world.

SPN Season 15 episode 18 Billie

Images courtesy of The CW

Poor Sam and Jack witness everyone they care about vanish before their eyes and I have to say that I was not prepared for the Donna one.

Meanwhile, Dean and Castiel try to hold off Billie, but time is running out and this leaves Castiel with the inevitable option we knew was coming…

1

“You changed me, Dean.”

Deep breath…here we go. I knew this moment was going to happen. I’ve predicted it ever since I first heard Castiel make that deal with The Empty that we all wanted to just disappear into the void and I know many of you did too, but that didn’t make this moment any less heartbreaking.

SPN Season 15 episode 18 Destiel

Images courtesy of The CW

I’ve talked a lot before about some of my favorite characters on television and the ones that truly resonate with me are the ones with the biggest transformations. Characters like Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cole Turner on Charmed, Olivia Blake on The 100 and Castiel absolutely come to mind. And the reason why is because of their journey.

Castiel’s journey on SPN is one of the most important ones because he never really understood humanity. Sure, he didn’t get the references and he had us laughing until our sides hurt when he learned some moves from the pizza man, but Castiel’s gradual growth toward humanity has been inspiring and moving to watch.

And at the very center of that journey is…Dean. I have really witnessed a change in Castiel with Jack, but I thought it was the right move to have everything come back full circle with Dean.

Castiel recognizes that Dean is going to die, but he has one last trick up his sleeve. If he experiences “true happiness,” the Empty will come to claim him for good, but it will also be enough to absorb and stop Billie, which would save Dean.

Castiel’s moment of true happiness is telling Dean that he loves him, which may have been one of the most brilliant moments I have ever witnessed on television. Misha Collins had me sobbing my eyes out. The moment was inevitable in a lot of ways, but I also can’t ignore the beautiful simplicity of the power behind the words of love. A love so deep that you feel it with every ounce of your body and soul even though you know that you may never hear the words said back to you.

Castiel’s sacrifice was enough to save Dean, as he was left alone to contemplate what had just happened.

Honestly, I don’t even know if I have really come to terms with it yet, but I want to celebrate the character of Castiel and I respect the writers of SPN so much for allowing Destiel shippers this epic moment.

Only two episodes left…

Carry on until then.

Stay tuned SPN family!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 15 episode 17: “Unity”

Happy Saturday TV fans! After watching The CW’s Supernatural season 15 episode 17, I remembered that “we don’t give up on family.”

Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In episode 17, “Unity,” Sam and Dean continue to view things differently on how to ultimately take down Chuck. Meanwhile, Castiel helps Sam discover the truth while Dean and Jack have a heart-to-heart chat.

My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 15 episode 17 are:

5

“You ever get tired of saying stuff like that?”

Sam and Dean are still having some issues when it comes to Jack’s involvement in their plan. Dean continues to remind Sam that this is the only way, but Sam is not going to stay quiet on this one.

Sam tells Dean that he is not going with them, but Dean loses his temper and reminds him that Jack is not part of their family. Of course Jack overhears, which was heartbreaking to see, but it looks like Jack is ready to continue with his sacrifice to help save the world anyway.

4

“True balance.”

Meanwhile, Amara agrees to Dean’s terms, reminding him that they will always help each other. Amara and Chuck meet up and she tries to get him to remember why he loved this world in the first place.

Supernatural season 15 episode 17 3

Chuck initially seems pleased by his fans, but the novelty wears off pretty quickly. Amara is not discouraged; however, as she takes him to the bunker and ends up trapping him there.

She tells Chuck that she can hold him long enough, but we know that Chuck always has something else up his sleeve…

“I need to say thank you.”

After Dean and Jack track down Adam and Jack passes his test with flying colors, he has what they need to complete the ritual. Once Jack absorbs it, he will not be able to stop it so they better be ready to go…

On the car ride back, Dean admits to his mistake from earlier and tells Jack that he wants to thank him for everything he is doing. He is giving him and Sam a real chance to have a normal life and I was glad that Dean finally let his wall down for just a moment to let Jack know this.

Whether Dean wants to admit it or not, Jack is their family, but maybe he doesn’t see it right now.

I think that’s all about to change…

“We have to stop it.”

Sam and Castiel work together, hoping that there is some other way so that they can save Jack. They know they need to contact Billie, but Sam can’t die to do so. Of course, they now remember that there is a key hidden in the bunker and after some investigating, they find it.

I thought it was actually really cool when Sam opened up the door in the wall, which could almost be its own separate adventure for him and Castiel.

When Sam walks through, he encounters Meg…or The Empty posing as Meg. Sam learns that this is all a power play and that Billie wants to take Chuck’s place so that she can return things to where they belong. But this would mean that old friends would die, demons would go back to hell and so on.

Always good to see you Meg!

“You always have a choice.”

Jack and Dean arrive with perfect timing, but Sam tries to get him to stop and listen to reason. Dean tells him that he has to stop Chuck, but Sam delivers an extremely touching speech once again.

Dean finally comes to his senses, but they may be too late. Amara learns the truth about Dean’s intentions and agrees to let Chuck consume her…or join with him…not too clear on that. Basically it looks like Chuck has shattered the balance and now contains both of their entities.

He blows open the door and tells the brothers that this was his plan all along, proving to constantly be one step ahead of our favorite heroes.

Chuck tells Sam and Dean to have fun watching Jack die before he disappears, leaving Jack ready to explode…talk about a cliffhanger.

Only three episodes left!

Stay tuned SPN Family!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 15 episode 16: “Drag Me Away (From You)”

Happy Friday TV fans! After watching The CW’s Supernatural season 15 episode 16, I learned that sometimes facing your past is easier said than done…but some things do come back full circle.

Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In episode 16, “Drag Me Away (From You)” Sam and Dean travel out to a funeral for an old friend, giving us glimpses into their past and a new case to solve. Meanwhile, Billie takes a brief moment to check in with Dean about the fate of the world.

My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 15 episode 16 are:

5

“Did you tell Sam yet?”

As Sam and Dean head out on a road trip to reunite with their old friend, Sam asks Dean about Castiel. Dean plays it cool, but we see a text from Castiel asking: “Did you tell Sam yet?”

This answers my question from last week’s episode where I was wondering if Castiel would tell the brothers the truth about Jack’s fate. It looks like he told Dean, but I’m guessing Dean wanted to be the one to tell his younger brother.

You can’t keep things from Sammy forever though…

4

“Why do you want us here?”

Apparently you can’t check into room 214 at Rooster’s Sunrise Motel without bumping into an undead monster or two…

We witness a disturbing encounter with a character named Travis, who ends up being murdered by some kind of spirit with a broken bottle. Ouch!

Travis’s sister, Caitlin, calls Sam and Dean, realizing that something is not quite right about what happened and says it wasn’t suicide. Perhaps this is the distraction they need. Oh and it gives us a chance to witness some flashbacks of Sam and Dean.

“You’ve changed…”

Caitlin and Dean actually have a really sweet history. I absolutely adored the vending machine scene and now I want to see if that trick actually works. Don’t get me into trouble Dean!

Dean tries to tell Caitlin that perhaps Travis really did take his own life, claiming he killed the evil being many years ago. Caitlin recognizes that Dean has changed, reminding him that he believed Travis right away so many years ago.

Perhaps Dean needs to take a moment to believe and remember who he used to be. He might need to embrace that glimmer of hope that he has pushed back down for so many years to win the ultimate battle.

2

“When he comes, there won’t be a moment to waste.”

Billie takes a quick opportunity to interrupt this flashback centered episode, revealing to Dean that all of the worlds are basically gone except for their own.

There will be no time to spare and there are only four episodes left, but is there another way to stop Chuck without losing Jack?

We’ll have to wait and see.

Thanks for the update, Billie!

“We don’t get a choice.”

After taking out the undead spirit for real this time by smashing the ring, Sam and Dean head out after saying goodbye to Caitlin. I have to say that I wouldn’t mind a Goonies inspired younger Sam and Dean prequel spin-off…just saying!

On the car ride home, Dean finally tells Sam about Jack and Sam is beyond upset.

The flashback seems even more important now since we witnessed a conversation about Sam wanting to go to college and Dean telling him that monster hunting was their true purpose. Sam is tired of Dean making choices for him.

There is clearly a divide between the two brothers and it really got me thinking about another theory. We know that Chuck and Amara represent a balance (light and dark).

Is it possible that Sam and Dean will somehow take their places and maintain balance in the world once again?

It’s a theory I have been pondering for a while, but we still have a few episodes left.

Stay tuned SPN Family!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Helstrom” on Hulu: Where’s the horror?

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“I’m not here to hold hands or save a cat from a tree or respond to false alarms….”

Helstrom is a new superhero horror series on Hulu, which premiered as part of their Huluween line-up on October 16th 2020 with 10 episodes available to stream now (approximately 55 minutes in length). It stars Tom Austen, Sydney Lemmon, and Elizabeth Marvel.

Based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe character, Daimon Hellstrom (Son of Satan), the series follows siblings, Daimon and Ana Helstrom. The estranged siblings possess supernatural abilities that aid in their quest to exorcise demons and eliminate threats, while they come to terms with their dark past.

Here is the trailer:

A horror superhero series could be filled with lots of potential, but it’s concerning that Marvel removed its name from the title. Either way, I went into this show hoping for some welcomed dark horror, along with some new unique characters. But does Helstrom do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Helstrom Elizabeth Marvel

Elizabeth Marvel is bloody fantastic!

I was a fan of hers already, but wow does she play this part well. She is the mother of Daimon and Ana and is showing signs of being possessed by a demon. We’ve seen show after show featuring some kind of demon possession, but I have to say that she frightened me and in a very good way.

Ana’s wardrobe is to die for.

Every single time she made an entrance, I was drooling over her wardrobe and then some. Ana was the stronger character for me throughout the series, but her amazing outfits definitely helped capture my attention.

The Cons:

Helstrom on Hulu

Slow, unfocused, and sloppy.

I really had high hopes for this show and the cast had the potential to really bring it to life, but the execution did not translate well. The pacing is extremely slow, the reveals are not rewarding enough, and the characters don’t have enough layers to keep you invested.

There have been plenty of shows about demonic possession and jaded antiheroes reminding us of the good vs. evil premise that just do this better. Shows like Lucifer, Constantine, Outcast, and Supernatural come to mind.

Unworthy of the horror label.

I was actually really excited to watch another horror superhero premise. There is something to be said about the dark line between right and wrong and the darkness that lurks beneath the surface of humanity.

Unfortunately, Helstrom never really earned its horror badge. There were a few cringe-worthy scenes that were displeasing to the eye, but that’s about it…

So am I in or out?

I’m in for the fashion, but unfortunately I’m out on this watch.

The show fell into the forgettable limbo of overdone demonic possession shows for me. The pacing was slow and there were a lot of missed opportunities.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Helstrom in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
