“I want my life back…”
Clayface released in theaters on October 23rd 2026, directed by James Watkins from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan. Based on the DC character, the body horror thriller film stars Tom Rhys Harries, Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-eight minutes.
Rising star, Matt Hagen has his face disfigured after being attacked by a local crime boss, causing him to seek out experimental treatment to get his face and life back, but he soon descends into a quest for revenge as he discovers that he now has new life-altering abilities.
Here is the trailer:
Clayface explores Matt Hagen’s descent into darkness and revenge with effective story-telling and plenty of stomach-turning moments. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…
The Pros:

Well-layered story.
I was completely captivated by this film from beginning to end and that was largely because of the way this story unfolded. The character of Matt Hagen was fleshed out in such a touching and tragic way. I thought the actor did a fantastic job as him and I really felt all of his pain and isolation. He didn’t always make the best decisions, but I still found myself tragically bound to his story, making each reveal and outcome that much more shocking and tragic.
I’ve recently taken a break from a lot of superhero movies, but I was very intrigued by this trailer and I’m glad I decided to go and see it in theaters. It had such a fresh and intriguing perspective.
Superhero/villain films often become exhausting and stale, but I felt like I was watching something truly special transpire with brand new eyes. This is not easy to achieve when so many similar films have come out over the years. Mike Flanagan is an absolute genius when it comes to story-telling. This film is no exception.

Gruesome moments.
I’m not the biggest fan of body horror. This film was tolerable in that department, but it did push the envelope a number of times, making my skin crawl. If that’s what you are looking for, then there is plenty in that department, but I never felt like it overwhelmed the film.
There was such a good balance here and I thought the club scene toward the end of the movie was FANTASTIC. Everything was choreographed in such an effective way, enhancing the viewer’s experience that much more.
The Cons:

A touch too long.
I really don’t have too many cons here. I thought the film was so well done with plenty of entertaining moments. That being said, I thought the first half had a few sluggish moments sprinkled in. I was still interested in everything happening, but the second half had better pacing overall for me.
So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!
(4.5 out of 5 stars)
Clayface is brilliantly executed with a well-constructed story perfectly balanced with gruesome moments, making this such a visceral and brutal watch.
An amazing and rewarding cinematic experience. I absolutely loved it.
