Spoiler-Free Review of “Duchess” on Demand: Charlotte Kirk is One to Watch!

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Power is nothing without respect…”

Duchess released on Demand on August 9th 2024. The action thriller film stars Charlotte Kirk, Philip Winchester, Sean Pertwee, and Colin Egglesfield. It runs for approximately an hour and fifty-three minutes.

After Scarlett meets the love of her life, she finds herself mixed up in the dangerous world of diamond trafficking. After being left for dead, she is determined to take down every last one of her enemies.

Here is the trailer:

Duchess is flashy and stylish with some bad-ass moments sprinkled in, but does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Believable chemistry between characters.

While this felt like a movie I’ve seen a million times before, one thing that set it apart was the chemistry between our two main characters. I felt the fire between them, which made this a more entertaining watch for me overall. There were some sweet and sexy moments here worth noting.

Charlotte Kirk delivers!

She was absolute FIRE in this film. Even though a lot of the fight scenes felt slightly over-choreographed, I thought that she was absolutely bad-ass in this movie! I love female driven vengeance films and this one had quite a few bloody moments to be excited about.

I thought Scarlett was very likable as a character and I loved all of her outfits in this. I hope to see her pop up in more films soon.

The Cons:

Annoying voice-over narration!

I really wish films would stop doing this. It’s such a gimmick and I absolutely hate it. I think I would have liked this film a lot more without it. You got a sense of Scarlett’s personality without this thrown into the mix. It felt forced and silly.

In a lot of ways, this film felt like a cheaper imitation of films I’ve seen before (clearly inspired by Guy Ritchie movies). It was still entertaining enough, but it never really found its own identity outside of this.

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

Duchess is stylish and entertaining enough, making this an effortless watch for fans of female revenge thrillers, but manage your expectations accordingly.

This film was predictable, but Charlotte Kirk added something special and is definitely one to watch!

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Hunted” on Demand: Bloody and Brutal

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

Maybe it’s a sign that we found you…”

The Hunted released on Demand on January 19th 2024. The survival-thriller film stars Lily Banda, Alec Newman, Vassilis Koukalani, and Daphne Alexander. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty-five minutes.

After a boat capsizes, a group of refugees are rescued by European strangers who promise to get them to safety after taking them to a remote island, but their real intention is to hunt them down one by one, forcing a mother to do whatever’s necessary to protect her child.

Here is the trailer:

The Hunted is similar to other films in this genre with a simple formula and a bad-ass female lead to root for, but is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

The hunt was pretty intense!

The initial set-up was OK, but once we got into the actual hunt, things changed drastically in the best way possible. The hunt itself was very intense and this movie was not afraid to kill characters off without thinking twice about it. Some of the kills were really bloody and twisted, giving me the adrenaline-filled rush I was looking for. I was really impressed by how well this was executed.

A bad-ass female lead to root for.

Lily Banda was fantastic in this and it was hard not to root for her. She had to tap into a different side of her, but once she unleashed her rage, she lit up the screen and really captured my attention. More please!

The Cons:

A movie I’ve seen before…

Don’t get me wrong, I love these kinds of movies and I will continue to watch them, but at times it seemed like this film picked a premise and just went with it without fleshing certain elements out enough.

I needed more answers about why this was happening and the motivation of the other characters. There were some choppy flashbacks presented for Lily Banda’s character to give me a little bit of backstory, but I needed a touch more for her as well.

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

The Hunted is a decent enough thriller that has enough going for it, but it needed a bit more to make it truly stand out against similar films.

Either way, this was a nice surprise and a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Who Is Erin Carter?” on Netflix: A Soapy Spy Thriller with a Bad-Ass Female Lead!

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“I think you’ve mistaken me for someone else…”

Who Is Erin Carter? premiered on August 24th 2023 on Netflix with all seven episodes available to stream now. The action-thriller limited series stars Evin Ahmad, Sean Teale, Indica Watson, Douglas Henshall, and Charlotte Vega. Each episode runs for approximately 45-55 minutes.

A school teacher named Erin gets caught in the middle of an armed robbery at a supermarket, but when one of the robbers recognizes her, her past comes back to haunt her, threatening her new suburban life.

Here is the trailer:

Who Is Erin Carter? is a satisfying mix of Desperate Housewives and Nikita, featuring a strong female lead to root for. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Addicting and guilty pleasure worthy!

I watched all seven episodes in one day. I was completely hooked on this series from start to finish. The first episode did an excellent job of setting the tone for the entire series. Usually it takes me a few episodes to adjust to a new show, but this one started off with a bang and never slowed down.

The fight scenes were INCREDIBLE and really inventive. I also thought the balance of guilty pleasure drama and action worked in this particular show. The reveals were well placed and each episode did enough to hook you at the end for more.

Our lead character elevates every scene to the max!

I was not too familiar with Evin Ahmad before this, but it’s safe to say that I am now a huge fan. She was bad-ass, funny, and so entertaining. I absolutely loved her character!

In a way, she reminded me a lot of Sameen Shaw’s character on Person of Interest portrayed by Sarah Shahi. The actresses look similar and those edgy and naturally bad-ass qualities of Sameen were also found in Erin, which I truly enjoyed. It was so easy to root for her. She was far from perfect, but she felt real and relatable.

Even when some of the dialogue felt slightly cliché or silly, she helped me move past that immediately with the intention behind her performance. She made this series what it was and I hope to see her in more series soon.

The rest of the cast did a great job too. The actress playing her daughter made her character really likable and Charlotte Vega went all out with her suburban housewife portrayal.

The Cons:

A show I’ve seen before…

I’m not going to pretend that this series did anything that new in the female spy category. A lot of the reveals were pretty predictable and the premise was one I’ve seen before.

That being said, this series was still entertaining and Evin Ahmad helped this one stand out against similar shows.

So am I in or out?

I’m in 100 percent!!!

Edgy, entertaining, and exactly what I want from a Netflix series!

If you enjoy female spy thrillers with a touch of juicy drama, you’ll find plenty to enjoy with this series. It was very easy to binge-watch and a lot of fun!
