Spoiler-Free Review of “Renfield” in Theaters: Nicolas Cage is a Boss you don’t want to cross…

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I need to get out of a toxic relationship…”

Renfield released in theaters on April 14th 2023. The vampire horror comedy film stars Nicolas Cage, Nicholas Hoult, Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, and Brandon Scott Jones. It runs for an hour and thirty-three minutes.

After centuries of serving Dracula, Renfield realizes that he may have a new destiny, which requires him freeing himself from his demanding master.

Here is the trailer:

Renfield has a fun cast and some bloody charm, but does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

The Nics steal the show!

Both Nicolas Cage and Nicholas Hoult were fantastic in this! Nicholas Hoult was charming and really hysterical and Nicolas Cage was…well…Nic freakin Cage! Both of them played their parts very well and put on a good show.

They were the best part of this film!

Some truly entertaining moments.

I loved the self-help aspect of this film even though I saw it a million times in the previews. The group members were really funny and contributed a lot to the humor in this. The film opened up in a strong way and even re-wrote the familiar story of Dracula with some fun twists.

We got plenty of fight scenes as well, which helped the pacing.

The Cons:

Needed some more bite…

The movie was enjoyable overall, but I wanted a little more bite and edge. Everything just felt a little bit too safe and predictable. Some of the humor didn’t really land for me as well and I thought that some of the other supporting characters were just kind of meh…

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

Renfield has its charms and is entertaining enough, but I wanted a little bit more in order for this film to pave its way into the horror comedy genre.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Renfield in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ghosts may be the perfect choice for wholesome fans of the spooky season, but does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

Charming premise.

This show is a nice little escape. It’s actually funny and really cute. The interactions between all of the characters work nicely and I found myself smiling the entire time I was watching this. If you like the original series or What We Do In The Shadows, you will find yourself right at home with this one.

Rose McIver shines.

It was truly fantastic watching iZombie’s Rose McIver on our television screens once again. She brings a quirky energy to the show and really lights up the screen. I think the rest of the characters have a lot of potential too and this is really more of an ensemble show so I’m curious to witness more interactions between everyone.

The Cons:

In the shadow of its predecessor.

So far the show is following the same formula as the original series, but I’m hoping that the show can branch out and find its own unique identity. This could be a bit of a challenge especially since the original series has its episodes available to stream on HBO Max. I think that we have a lot of potential here, but I’d also like to see a bit more edge or horror comedy thrown in.

The wholesome vibe is working, but it could get old really fast…

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

This show was a wonderful treat. It really has a charming quality to it and I’m excited to tune in weekly. I think that as long as the show finds its own separate identity and a bit of an edge, it will become even more enjoyable to watch.
