Spoiler-Free Review of “Heart of Stone” on Netflix: Gal Gadot Stars in an Action-Thriller By The Numbers

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Everything’s under control…”

Heart of Stone premiered on August 11th 2023 on Netflix. The action-thriller film stars Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, Jing Lusi, Alia Bhatt, and Glenn Close. It runs for approximately two hours and five minutes.

An intelligence agent named Rachel Stone stands up against a powerful organization as she faces countless threats and betrayals along the way.

Here is the trailer:

Heart of Stone follows your standard formula of a female lead action thriller with some entertaining moments sprinkled in. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Flashy fight scenes and action.

If you’re here for action, there’s plenty to appreciate in this one. I wouldn’t say that any particular fight scene really stood out, but Gal Gadot showed off how bad-ass she can be with each scene. The action certainly helped the overall pacing of the movie.

Gal Gadot puts forth a valiant effort.

She’s the main reason why I tuned into this one and I thought she did a good job with what she was given. This film features a lot of girl power to the max and I thought she delivered in that department. I just wish she was given a little bit more to work with because she’s so talented.

The Cons:

Borrows too much from other action-thrillers…

I didn’t mind this, but this film really didn’t have its own identity, which was frustrating. I’ve seen too many Netflix action-thrillers that have lured us into this trap. A strong cast, flashy action, and a mediocre plot that becomes forgettable as soon as you turn the movie off.

This film was decent enough, but I thought it had the potential to be so much more. The twists were really predictable and as much as I love a film featuring female empowerment, I don’t need to be hit over the head with this…

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

Even though I knew what to expect with this movie, there were some moments worth watching and I really enjoyed the performances by Gal Gadot and Alia Bhatt, who both elevated this one as much as they could.

If you’re looking for a quick action-thriller, this one will check off enough boxes for you, but don’t expect anything truly extraordinary.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Death on the Nile” in Theaters: Aesthetically Pleasing Murder Mystery

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“He’s only the greatest detective alive…”

Death on the Nile released in theaters on February 11th 2022. The murder mystery film stars Kenneth Branagh, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Tom Bateman, Letitia Wright, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Jennifer Saunders, Rose Leslie and Emma Mackey. It runs for approximately two hours and five minutes.

Belgian detective, Poirot, is back in this adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel as his vacation to Egypt doesn’t exactly go according to plan when he ends up involved in a series of murders on a boat involving a newlywed couple.

Here is the trailer:

Death on the Nile allows fans of Murder on the Orient Express a chance to follow the clues with Poirot once again, leading to a fun murder mystery, but does this film do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Gorgeous fashion and setting.

This film was very pleasing to the eye. The use of color and light really worked to its advantage. I adored all of the costumes (especially Gal Gadot’s wardrobe). Can we get a peek inside her closet? Seriously, she always wears the most beautiful dresses!

The setting easily transported me to another time and place and I thought it suited the movie perfectly. The cast was truly fantastic as well.

Fun murder mystery.

If you enjoy Agatha Christie novels, then you’ll feel right at home with this one. There are multiple suspects (pretty much everyone onboard) and tons of different motives, which will have you playing detective as well throughout the film.

The Cons:

Really slow at times…

The film was just over two hours long, but I felt like I had been watching it for over three hours. A lot of the setup really dragged. Once we got to the murders, things naturally picked up, but it took a while to get there…

The ending was also kind of predictable. That could be because I started to remember the details of the book and the prior film or maybe I’m becoming a better detective than I thought, but I was able to put the pieces together fairly quickly on this one.

I’m in about 75 percent…

This film truly was something out of a watercolor painting. Everything was just so vibrant and beautiful, which kept me focused and alert. The murder mystery is a fun one and it’s always great to see Detective Poirot in action.

If you enjoy murder mysteries, then you’ll find plenty to enjoy with this one, but be prepared to sit through a lot before things truly get going.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Red Notice” on Netflix: Indiana Jones Rip-Off is Actually a lot of Fun

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“What are we stealing?”

Red Notice premiered on November 12th 2021 on Netflix. The action-comedy film stars Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. It runs for just under two hours.

An Interpol agent attempts to catch the world’s most notorious art thief, but quickly realizes this task is far from easy…

Here is the trailer:

Red Notice is basically Indiana Jones meets National Treasure in a lot of ways, but it does have a great cast and a lot of flashy effects to hold your attention. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Fun banter between the cast.

I really liked the dynamic between all three characters in this film. I don’t think that any of the actors really strayed from their comfort zone, but that’s okay. The film was a lot of fun because of this dynamic and I can’t say enough good things about Gal Gadot’s wardrobe.

I’d love to raid her closet!

I was worried that this film would miss the mark in the humor department, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was actually laughing. The humor worked for me, which was something I struggled with when I tried to connect with Netflix’s Army of Thieves.

An entertaining heist.

Even though this film seemed like a rip-off of Indiana Jones, National Treasure and even Jungle Cruise in a lot of ways, it still had an interesting and fun heist at its core, which kept me invested in the movie.

The Cons:

I didn’t need all of the flashy effects…

It’s obvious that a lot of money went into these effects, but I honestly didn’t need them. The best part of the movie was the banter between the characters and the mystery behind the heist. Sure, there were some fun action sequences that kept up the pace, but the effects just felt cheesy and overdone.

Predictable.

I’ve seen this type of movie before and while I enjoyed it, it didn’t really do anything that original. It does throw a few curve balls our way (which I appreciated), but don’t expect to watch anything truly extraordinary here.

It was still entertaining though…

I’m in!

Even though I knew what to expect with this movie, I had a blast watching it. It was entertaining and actually really funny. I loved the dynamic between the characters and thoroughly enjoyed my watch.

If you’re looking for a quick comedy-action film to enjoy, you’re in the right place!
