Spoiler-Free Review of “Nosferatu” in Theaters: A Gorgeous Gothic Piece of Art

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Come to me…”

Nosferatu released in theaters on December 26th 2024. The vampire horror drama film (directed by Robert Eggers) is a remake of the 1922 film. It stars Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe. The film runs for approximately two hours and fifteen minutes.

Set in the 1800’s, an estate agent travels to Transylvania to meet with Count Orlock, leaving his wife Ellen behind in the care of friends, but she quickly becomes plagued by haunting nightmares and visions involving a dangerous presence that threatens them all.

Here is the trailer:

Nosferatu has gorgeous scenery, poetic dialogue, and a Gothic sense of dread that terrifies its audience in a subtle, but effective way. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Beautiful to look at.

I love it when a film can effortlessly transport you to another place and time. Every image and scene was flawless to look at. It felt like I had stepped into a timeless piece of art mixed perfectly with a Gothic novel, creating a breathtaking piece of cinema.

Incredible performances.

I was very pleased with Lily-Rose Depp’s performance along with Nicholas Hoult’s. They were both exceptional in this one. Willem Dafoe blew everyone out of the water, however. I expect nothing less from him, but his presence elevated the film in a lot of ways for me.

The Cons:

Way too long…

I didn’t need this film to be over two hours long. I thought the initial pacing was fine, but there were too many scenes involving walking around with no real purpose. Once we returned to London, everything almost came to a screeching halt. I felt like I was watching certain parts for over five hours and I did look at the time quite a bit.

I was hoping this would lead to a satisfying conclusion, but it was just kind of OK for me personally. I get what they were going for and it worked with the obsession angle, but I guess I just wanted something a little more here to really sell me on this one.

I enjoyed my watch overall, but I wouldn’t necessarily return to this film again for another viewing.

So am I in or out?

I’m in…

Nosferatu is an eloquent film filled with dark obsession, terror, and dread elevated by exceptional performances.

While I had some issues with this film, I do think that it was a worthy entry to cinema worth experiencing on the big screen.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Nosferatu in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Renfield has a fun cast and some bloody charm, but does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

The Nics steal the show!

Both Nicolas Cage and Nicholas Hoult were fantastic in this! Nicholas Hoult was charming and really hysterical and Nicolas Cage was…well…Nic freakin Cage! Both of them played their parts very well and put on a good show.

They were the best part of this film!

Some truly entertaining moments.

I loved the self-help aspect of this film even though I saw it a million times in the previews. The group members were really funny and contributed a lot to the humor in this. The film opened up in a strong way and even re-wrote the familiar story of Dracula with some fun twists.

We got plenty of fight scenes as well, which helped the pacing.

The Cons:

Needed some more bite…

The movie was enjoyable overall, but I wanted a little more bite and edge. Everything just felt a little bit too safe and predictable. Some of the humor didn’t really land for me as well and I thought that some of the other supporting characters were just kind of meh…

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

Renfield has its charms and is entertaining enough, but I wanted a little bit more in order for this film to pave its way into the horror comedy genre.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Renfield in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

The Pros:

Anya Taylor-Joy is perfection.

She is already one of my favorite actresses and she shows off her talent and range once again in The Menu. She was absolutely stunning in that lavender dress and I hope I can find something similar for my own closet!

There was a great back-and-forth between her and Ralph Fiennes, creating a unique dynamic, which was so entertaining to watch unfold on screen. She stole the show for me and then some, proving once again to be an unstoppable force in the horror genre.

Perfect balance of dark comedy and shocking thrills.

It’s not easy achieving this and I thought that this film executed this balance seamlessly. I absolutely loved the moments of dark comedy, which actually had me laughing out loud quite a few times. The pacing worked really well and I never looked at the time even once. In a lot of ways, this film had the same kind of vibe as Ready or Not, which was fantastic.

Satisfying ending.

There will be no spoilers in this review, but I was thoroughly pleased with the ending. I often watch films that are completely brilliant and then fail to stick the landing. I think this film really nailed it and carved its spot as one of my top films of the year. It’s safe to say that I will be watching this one over and over again.

The Cons:

I really don’t have any…

I loved everything about this film and I don’t have anything negative to say about it…

So am I in or out?
