“They say it draws in lost souls…”

The Watchers released in theaters on June 7th 2024. The supernatural horror film (written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan) stars Dakota Fanning, Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouéré. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-two minutes.

A young artist gets lost in a mysterious forest in Ireland. While looking for shelter, she unknowingly traps herself with three strangers who are being stalked by mysterious creatures when the sun goes down.

Here is the trailer:

The Watchers presents the audience with a layered mystery containing lots of chilling potential, but does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

Breathtaking scenery.

I’ve been seeing a lot of film entries lately set in Ireland and each time, I am presented with some of the most gorgeous scenery ever. Everything in this movie was visually striking. I felt like I was stepping into a watercolor painting filled with mystery and intrigue. Simply magnificent to look at on the big screen!

The lore and mystery were really interesting.

I thought the first half of this movie was so well done. It grabbed my attention and I really wanted to find out what was going on. Certain aspects of this movie reminded me of LOST. It was truly interesting to watch unfold and I found myself getting invested in the outcome.

Oh, and the bird was a scene-stealer and my favorite character by far…

The Cons:

The first half was a lot better than the second half…

I still found it interesting enough, but I think it attempted to do a little too much. It went completely off the rails in the final act. I’m all for wild twists and reveals, but this one felt overstuffed with them, which ultimately took away from the eerie build-up in the first half of the film.

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

The Watchers explores a layered mystery with chilling potential, but it loses steam with its excessive reveals.

This was a complex and intriguing watch overall, but it didn’t stick the landing.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) delivers with plenty of gory kills that will have your stomach turning. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Gory kills galore!

If you’ve come for the gore, then you’re in the right place! The new film delivers and then some in this category. We get plenty of stomach-turning scenes and the infamous chainsaw does not disappoint!

Fast paced plot.

The film is on the short side and really doesn’t present us with too much fluff at all. The plot keeps things moving, which worked in the film’s favor. This film could have easily gone into a lot of backstory if it wanted to, but I think that the quick plot made this an enjoyable ride from start to finish.

A true sequel.

I liked that this film really felt like a sequel to the original. There will be no spoilers in this review, but fans of the original will have a lot to be excited about.

The Cons:

Glosses over character development…

The film is a slasher so I don’t need that many layers, but I do want to care about the characters. Since everything moved so quickly, we fast forwarded right through any real development here. We got some sprinkles of it here and there, but I wanted a little bit more so I could actually care about who lives and dies.

I’m in!

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) was a blast to watch! The gory kills were fantastic and the movie didn’t take itself too seriously, allowing fans of the franchise a chance to just sit back and enjoy the ride!
