Opus draws from films like Blink Twice and The Menu with a talented cast and an unnerving story at its core. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

A creepy and captivating watch.

I’m a fan of weird cult flicks that push the envelope and this one was an unexpected surprise. I hadn’t heard much buzz around this film and I went into it without expecting much, but it quickly drew me in. It was weird, intriguing, and shocking.

If you’re a fan of films like Get Out, Midsommar, and The Menu, you’ll really enjoy this one.

Great cast!

John Malkovich really played this role well and it was great seeing so many familiar faces in this one. I thought that Ayo Edebiri was a strong and capable lead. I was rooting for her the entire time. She was relatable and she really lit up the screen with her convincing performance. I hope to see her in more horror-thrillers soon. She did a great job!

The Cons:

Some unanswered questions.

I usually have a lot by the time I get to the end of films like this, but I was still trying to piece together certain elements of the puzzle at the very end. I thought the ending was solid, but I was a little fuzzy on certain details.

This film clearly drew a lot from some of its predecessors. I still think it had enough of its own story, but it made the reveal a little lukewarm since I kind of knew what to expect. I still enjoyed it though.

So am I in or out?

Spoiler-Free Review of “Novocaine” in Theaters: Jack Quaid Gives us Quirky Charm in this Enjoyable Action Flick

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I can’t feel pain…”

Novocaine is an action-comedy film that released on March 14th 2025 in theaters. The film stars Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Jacob Batalon, Ray Nicholson, and Betty Gabriel. It runs for an hour and fifty minutes.

When the girl of his dreams is kidnapped after a bank robbery, a man who cannot feel pain becomes an unlikely hero to try and save her life.

Here is the trailer:

Novocaine features some hilarious and heartwarming moments along with some terrific fight scenes. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Light and fun!

It’s good to see a movie like this every once and a while. This film didn’t take itself too seriously at all. I thought it was super fun with a lot of humor that actually landed. The chemistry between our two main leads was sweet enough and the dynamic with the villains was fantastic (mostly courtesy of the brilliant Ray Nicholson killing it again).

Jack Quaid’s awkward, but endearing charm worked well here, making him an unlikely hero to root for against all odds.

Creative and entertaining fight scenes.

In a lot of ways, this film reminded me of a watered down version of Crank starring Jason Statham. I liked that film better, but Novocaine had the same type of outrageous fight scenes that were very entertaining.

The fight scenes were silly, but they were also great to watch on screen. It was awesome hearing the rest of the theater audience react during certain gruesome parts.

The Cons:

A touch too long.

I personally think this movie should have been just under 90 minutes. The beginning was a little sluggish. It also felt very by the numbers. We learned about why we should care about these two characters while getting a touch of chemistry between them. I think the chemistry could have been fleshed out a little bit more, but I didn’t need this movie to be any longer than it was.

Once we got to the robbery and action, things picked up a lot, but it was a slower start for me.

DON’T TAKE THE JOB…

It was only supposed to be temporary…but when Olivia Crewe accepts a new position that seems too good to be true, she soon discovers that twelve other girls previously had the same job as her. Only none of them lasted for more than thirty days. No notice. Nothing…right before they mysteriously disappeared without a trace.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Prey” (2022) on Hulu: Decent Prequel with some Intense Moments

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“A long time ago, it is said that a monster came here…”

Prey is a sci-fi action film in the Predator franchise. It premiered on August 5th 2022 on Hulu. The film stars Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro, and Michelle Thrush. It runs for an hour and thirty-nine minutes.

A female warrior attempts to protect her people from a dangerous alien predator that hunts both humans and animals.

Here is the trailer:

Prey gives us a prequel filled with plenty of worthy moments, along with some Easter Eggs for fans of the franchise. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Naru and Sarii are my kind of duo!

Amber Midthunder was absolutely fantastic as Naru. She really dominated the screen and held my attention the entire time. She was far from a perfect warrior, but her perseverance and ability to think outside the box made her one to root for.

The dog, Sarii was a scene stealer for sure and my absolute favorite part of the movie. This duo was truly amazing and I LOVED them!

Good balance.

There was plenty of action and gore in this one. The predator truly got his chance to shine in this environment and the setting was absolutely stunning. I also liked that we got some Easter Eggs (some were better placed than others) for fans of the franchise.

I think that this film did enough to earn its place in the franchise while finding its own identity in the process.

The Cons:

A little slow at first…

I was slightly worried at the beginning of this film. The pacing was slower than I had wanted, but things did pick up in the second half.

So am I in or out?

This film had some flaws, but it was so entertaining to watch! The fight scenes were bloody fantastic and I was rooting for my new favorite duo, Naru and Sarii, the entire time!
