Spoiler-Free Review of “Sting” in Theaters: Needed More Camp…

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“There’s something in my walls…”

Sting released in theaters on April 12th 2024. The Australian horror film stars Alyla Browne, Ryan Corr, and Jermaine Fowler. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty minutes.

Charlotte is fascinated by her new pet spider, but when it starts to grow rapidly and show off some strange abilities, her neighbors and family are put in serious danger.

Here is the trailer:

Sting attempts to terrify us with a creepy premise that will make your skin crawl, but is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

Creepy and gory…

If you’re a fan of spider flicks, there will be enough gross moments for you to appreciate during this one. This film didn’t hold back on the gore and there were plenty of stomach-turning moments that had me looking away.

Nothing really followed logical sense in this movie, but if you check all reason at the door, there are a few fun moments to appreciate as a horror fan.

Scene-stealers worth your time.

I’ll be honest, I might have walked out of this one without Frank the Exterminator, who stole the show for me, along with one other adorable scene stealer with four legs. I really liked the camp of this movie. There just needed to be a lot more of it, but I had fun with some of this crazy nonsense and I’d recommend sticking around for the bonus scene during the credits. Trust me!

The Cons:

Takes itself too seriously with a premise I’ve seen a million times before…

I like Ryan Corr (Wolf Creek 2) and even the actress who played Charlotte did a decent enough job, but I’ve seen too many horror films focusing on the troubled family drama to offset the horror going on in the background. We can do better here…

This film needed to just embrace its bonkers concept and go with it rather than trying to do too much with the family drama aspects. It seemed like it was trying to attempt this with some parts, but it never quite reached that level for me and it felt weighed down and boring at times because of this.

Also, as a general rule, if you’re not a fan of spiders and are a lover of animals, I’d recommend steering clear of this one…

So am I in or out?

I’m 50/50 on this one…

Sting had some moments that definitely made my skin crawl and I loved Frank the Exterminator, but I just wanted this film to fully embrace the insanity and silliness to really sell me on this one.

If you’re not a fan of spiders, you’re not missing much here and if you are, enjoy!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Run Rabbit Run” on Netflix: Dreary Maternal Horror Flick

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I miss people I never met all the time…”

Run Rabbit Run released on Netflix on June 28th 2023. The Australian psychological horror film stars Sarah Snook, Lily LaTorre, and Greta Scacchi. It runs for approximately an hour and forty minutes.

A mother begins to lose her grip on reality when her daughter claims to have memories from another life, bringing up her dark past in the process.

Here is the trailer:

Run Rabbit Run features a haunting premise with an eerie tone, but does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Chilling performances.

The best part of this film revolved around the strong performances by both Sarah Snook (which comes as no surprise) and Lily LaTorre, who may be going for creepiest kid of the year…

They both put forth a valiant effort here and immersed themselves completely into these roles, which worked in the film’s favor.

Intriguing idea.

I liked the symbolism and links to Alice in Wonderland and I thought the overall concept was creepy and thought-provoking. I expected something a little different here, but I think that the film was attempting to present us with more of an atmospheric horror entry. Other films have done a better job with this, but I still thought the overall idea was interesting enough. The ambiguous ending got me thinking too.

The Cons:

Takes forever to end…

The movie wasn’t terribly long, but I felt like I was watching it for a really long time. It dragged so much. Yes, there were some really disturbing moments mixed in, but not enough in my opinion. Everything just felt very bleak and gloomy and it didn’t fully explore some of the themes and symbols I was most interested in at the very beginning of the film.

Not that terrifying…

I have seen this film billed as both a horror movie and a thriller, but I’m not sure that it really fell into either category. Sure, there were some elements of both, but I would have liked to have seen this film embrace one of those genres in a tangible way. There was one moment in particular that was disturbing to witness, but everything else felt very flat and mediocre.

So am I in or out?

I’m 50/50 on this one…

Well acted and some interesting concepts, but the pacing was way too slow and I’m not sure that this film successfully carved its way into the atmospheric horror genre…even though it really tried to.

Blood Rose Island Ad

When sisters, Nina and Gemma are vacationing in Hawaii with their friends, they get invited to an exclusive party on a private island that seems too good to be true. There’s only one rulethey can’t miss their ferry at midnight or they’ll have to wait until morning to leave the island. Only they didn’t realize that breaking this rule meant they would be hunted down on the island one by one.

Who will make it off the island alive?

I hope you enjoy my island thriller!
