Spoiler-Free Review of “High Potential” on ABC: Kaitlin Olson Shines!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

Who the hell is this?

High Potential premiered on ABC (next day on Hulu) with its premiere episode. The crime drama series will have weekly episodes. It stars Kaitlin Olson, Judy Reyes, Daniel Sunjata, Deniz Akdeniz, and Amirah J. Each episode runs for approximately 42-44 minutes.

A single mom with a high IQ and gifted mind helps solve a crime when she accidentally knocks over a box of evidence while cleaning, leading to a new job opportunity as a consultant for the police.

Here is the trailer:

High Potential may initially seem similar to other crime series at first glance, but Kaitlin Olson takes it to the next level with a refreshing performance. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

All hail Kaitlin Olson!

She’s best known as playing Dee Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and I also loved her on the short lived series, The Mick. I’m happy to report that she is off to a great start with High Potential. This isn’t her typical role, but she’s putting her quirky humor to good use, elevating an otherwise stale crime series. Her character is outrageous and out there, but it’s working and I actually think a lot of the humor landed because of her.

A little more than your average crime series…

I’ll be honest…I was worried that this show might get old really fast once the gimmick wears off, but we also have a bigger mystery in the mix to dive into. I think that this will really help set this series apart. I’m already highly invested in Olson’s character, Morgan, and now even more so. I have a feeling that this series can become the new Found with a little effort. Fingers crossed!

The Cons:

Needs to keep things fresh.

I don’t really have too many cons for this series, but I do think it needs to be careful not to fall into the case of the week trap. I’ve tuned out on similar series for this reason, but I’m hopeful that the core mystery will prevent this from happening (similar with Found).

The series is a little cheesy and I had to get used to Kaitlin Olson giving us a more serious side during certain parts, but she’s a great actress and I’m excited to see her show off her range.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

High Potential is a lot of fun thanks to Kaitlin Olson, giving this crime series a boost in the right direction!

DON’T TAKE THE JOB…

It was only supposed to be temporary…but when Olivia Crewe accepts a new position that seems too good to be true, she soon discovers that twelve other girls previously had the same job as her. Only none of them lasted for more than thirty days. No notice. Nothing…right before they mysteriously disappeared without a trace.
