Spoiler-Free Review of “High Potential” on ABC: Kaitlin Olson Shines!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

Who the hell is this?

High Potential premiered on ABC (next day on Hulu) with its premiere episode. The crime drama series will have weekly episodes. It stars Kaitlin Olson, Judy Reyes, Daniel Sunjata, Deniz Akdeniz, and Amirah J. Each episode runs for approximately 42-44 minutes.

A single mom with a high IQ and gifted mind helps solve a crime when she accidentally knocks over a box of evidence while cleaning, leading to a new job opportunity as a consultant for the police.

Here is the trailer:

High Potential may initially seem similar to other crime series at first glance, but Kaitlin Olson takes it to the next level with a refreshing performance. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

All hail Kaitlin Olson!

She’s best known as playing Dee Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and I also loved her on the short lived series, The Mick. I’m happy to report that she is off to a great start with High Potential. This isn’t her typical role, but she’s putting her quirky humor to good use, elevating an otherwise stale crime series. Her character is outrageous and out there, but it’s working and I actually think a lot of the humor landed because of her.

A little more than your average crime series…

I’ll be honest…I was worried that this show might get old really fast once the gimmick wears off, but we also have a bigger mystery in the mix to dive into. I think that this will really help set this series apart. I’m already highly invested in Olson’s character, Morgan, and now even more so. I have a feeling that this series can become the new Found with a little effort. Fingers crossed!

The Cons:

Needs to keep things fresh.

I don’t really have too many cons for this series, but I do think it needs to be careful not to fall into the case of the week trap. I’ve tuned out on similar series for this reason, but I’m hopeful that the core mystery will prevent this from happening (similar with Found).

The series is a little cheesy and I had to get used to Kaitlin Olson giving us a more serious side during certain parts, but she’s a great actress and I’m excited to see her show off her range.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

High Potential is a lot of fun thanks to Kaitlin Olson, giving this crime series a boost in the right direction!

DON’T TAKE THE JOB…

It was only supposed to be temporary…but when Olivia Crewe accepts a new position that seems too good to be true, she soon discovers that twelve other girls previously had the same job as her. Only none of them lasted for more than thirty days. No notice. Nothing…right before they mysteriously disappeared without a trace.

Ranking my Top 10 Television Shows of 2023: Which Shows Made The Cut?

It’s that time of year again! As we get closer and closer to approaching 2023, I thought it would be the perfect time to count down my Top 10 TV Shows of 2023.

While some returning shows continued strong, others fell off slightly. Meanwhile, some other new shows completely captivated my attention, paving their way into my top 10.

Without any further delay, let’s get to my list!

My Top 10 Television Shows of 2023 are:

10

Who Is Erin Carter?

I love guilty pleasure thrillers and this series checked off all those boxes and then some. It was so addicting and a binge-watcher’s dream. If you’re looking for a soapy action-packed series with tons of twists and turns, this one is for you!

9

Poker Face

While I personally feel that this series started off a lot stronger than it finished, Natasha Lyonne was absolutely fantastic in this one. Her quirky, dry humor really elevated things and I really liked the vignette style with each episode.

8

A Murder at the End of the World

Image courtesy of FX on Hulu

A fantastic and modern whodunnit that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Every reveal was so well crafted and I liked the flashbacks just as much as the present day mystery, making this a layered and thought-provoking series worth checking out.

7

School Spirits

A delightful and charming surprise that I absolutely fell in love with. A clever mix of Ghosts and Veronica Mars, featuring a major twist that really elevated this show into something spectacular.

6

Yellowjackets (season 2)

One of my favorite shows of last year stayed strong with season 2, providing us with darker and more shocking moments than ever before. Yellowjackets is so addicting and doesn’t hold anything back, bringing two timelines together seamlessly in a disturbing, but fascinating series.

5

Found

Another big surprise was how quickly I became addicted to this series. It started off like your standard crime series and then it presented us with an insane twist that hooked me completely and didn’t stop there. Each week reveals more pieces of the puzzle and Shanola Hampton and Mark-Paul Gosselaar are dynamite on screen!

I can’t wait for new episodes to return in the new year!

4

The Horror of Dolores Roach

This series was an absolute gem for horror fans and Justina Machado killed it! The bite-sized episodes made this one extremely easy to binge-watch and the plot channeled Sweeney Todd in a clever way.

I’m really disappointed that this series was canceled because it was so fresh and spectacular. I’m hoping another platform picks it up, but either way, you can still enjoy the first season. That cliffhanger is still bugging me though…

3

The Last of Us

Probably the best video game adaptation I have seen on the small screen. The Last of Us has been a long time coming and it delivered with powerful moments and performances on screen.

2

The Night Agent

The most addicting series of the year for me. The Night Agent was jam packed with insane twists and plenty of action to keep you anxiously pressing play on the next episode until the very end. More series like this please!

Honorable Mentions:

Full Circle

Based on a True Story

Class of ’07

You (season 4)

The Witcher (season 3)

The Summer I Turned Pretty (season 2)

Harlan Coben’s Shelter

Justified: City Primeval

Only Murders in the Building (season 3)

Nancy Drew (final season)

Drum roll please…

1

The Fall of the House of Usher

An eloquent and deliciously dark masterpiece from start to finish. This series was everything I hoped for and more with powerful characters, stand-out performances, and beyond shocking moments, making this my favorite series of the year by far! I loved every second of it!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post some of YOUR favorite television shows of 2023. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing in the new year!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Found” on Peacock: A Twist Worth Sticking Around For

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“There will always be a need for what I do…”

Found premiered on NBC (next day streaming on Peacock) on October 3rd 2023 with its first episode. The series has been picked up for thirteen episodes (with the option for renewal) that will air weekly. The crime thriller series stars Shanola Hampton, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Gabrielle Walsh, Brett Dalton, and Kelli Williams. Each episode runs for approximately 42-44 minutes.

A recovery specialist with a jaded past and her team work together to find missing people that the police are unable to.

Here is the trailer:

Found starts off like your standard crime drama-thriller with a recognizable cast, but its twist ending in the pilot episode has some juicy potential. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Peacock

A cast to elevate the mundane.

Shanola Hampton (Shameless) is effortlessly stepping into this role and is a force to be reckoned with so far. Her character appears to be strong on the outside, but she has some dark secrets as well that are worth exploring, giving us enough potential layers.

The rest of the cast is filled with familiar faces, but I was most excited to see Mark-Paul Gosselaar and I’m thrilled that he’s playing a character he doesn’t normally play. I’m intrigued to see where this goes…

Images courtesy of Peacock

A fantastic hook.

I’ll be honest…I wasn’t sure if I was going to stick around for more, but by the time I got to the end, I changed my tune. It wasn’t the most original twist, but it definitely livened things up and I think it could give this show the boost it needs. Fingers crossed!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Peacock

A show I’ve seen before…

This show follows a very familiar pattern…especially if you’ve seen your fair share of NBC crime dramas. The cases so far have been interesting and we have a strong enough cast to elevate things, but that could get stale fast…

Also, a lot of the dialogue felt very unbelievable. It seemed like the actors were using catch phrases rather than speaking organically, which was frustrating at times since we have a good enough cast to work with. Hopefully this will improve as the show continues.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Peacock

I’m in about 75 percent…

Found steps things up with a twist ending with loads of potential, setting up an intriguing character dynamic worth exploring.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Found in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

A VACATION TO DIE FOR…

Blood Rose Island Ad

When sisters, Nina and Gemma are vacationing in Hawaii with their friends, they get invited to an exclusive party on a private island that seems too good to be true. There’s only one rulethey can’t miss their ferry at midnight or they’ll have to wait until morning to leave the island. Only they didn’t realize that breaking this rule meant they would be hunted down on the island one by one.

Who will make it off the island alive?

I hope you enjoy my island thriller!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Shameless” season 9 episode 14: “Don’t Ever Look Back”

Happy Sunday TV fans!  After watching Showtime’s Shameless season 9 episode 14 season finale, I realized that we sometimes get a second chance, even after we have hit rock bottom.  So what do we do with it?  Do we play it safe or do we travel into the unknown?  The decision is never easy, but all we can do is try and embrace the future.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In tonight’s episode, “Found,” Fiona makes a huge decision that will impact everyone around her.  Meanwhile, Liam moves out, Carl and Debbie team up, and Frank burdens everyone with his recovery.  My top 5 moments from Shameless season 9 episode 14 season finale are:

5

“I moved out.”

During the episode, Liam decides to move out of the Gallagher house for good.  Debbie tries to get him to come back home, but Liam explains that he doesn’t want to be a Gallagher anymore and even Carl asks, “Is that an option?”  Debbie refuses to give up and Liam presents her with a list of demands of 46 items that will need to be addressed in order for him to consider moving home, as Liam is looking to embrace his culture in a stable environment.  Good for you, Liam!

4

“I’m a man again!”

Kev is thrilled to be “a man again” and even starts thinking about renting himself out as Jesus.  V is skeptical, but Kev has endless possibilities, including “A Jesus Stripper” and “Last Supper Jesus.”  It looks like Kev has embraced this new role, but someone should probably tell him that “Bar Mitzvah Jesus” may not go over that well…

3

“Now that’s a woman!”

In the beginning of the episode, Carl and Debbie team up to get some revenge on Kelly for breaking their hearts, as they go into full stealth mode to mess up her truck.  Kelly is furious and confronts Debbie, as we hilariously see that Carl spray painted “heart beaker” instead of “heart breaker.”  Debbie informs Kelly that she knows how to spell, but takes this moment to stand up for her brother, as she tells Kelly that she really hurt her brother and that he feels rejected.  Carl is ready to give up on school and settle for working in fast food, but we know he is worth so much more than that.  Kelly refuses to accept this and storms into “Captain Bob’s” and zip ties Carl and takes him out of there, telling his boss that he quits.  Kelly really is one hell of a woman, as she tells Carl to man up and kisses him, suggesting that there is hope for these two to get back together.  Yay!

2

“You just love them.”

Tami decides to move forward with her pregnancy after getting her test results back from the doctor.  Lip wants to be a father, but Tami thinks that he will be a terrible one.  In a touching moment, Lip gets some advice from Kev, who tells him that you just love them, which is actually really great advice.  I personally think that Lip will be an excellent father, especially after seeing how good he was with Xan, but it will definitely be an adventure for sure.

1

“I’m scared.”

After receiving the $100,000 check from Max, Fiona realizes that she now has a second chance.  Fiona goes to visit Ian in prison and he tells her to go because she deserves it.  Fiona is scared, but Ian reminds her, “Don’t ever look back.”  Ian will always be there to love and support her, along with the rest of her family, but Fiona recognizes that it is time to start her life somewhere else.  Lip wants to throw Fiona a goodbye party, but she leaves before it, realizing that she may not be able to go if she stays for that.  Fiona recognizes that it is now or never and takes that leap of faith to get on the plane and move forward toward the unknown.  She loves her family and even leaves Deb a check for $50,000 and reminds Frank that she did it all, as he tries to thank her for helping over the years.  It’s clearly difficult for Frank to admit this and he probably has his own feelings about his oldest daughter leaving, but Fiona takes the high road and doesn’t look back.  We’re proud of you, Fiona Gallagher!

I have to say that I definitely shed a few tears at the end of the episode.  I will absolutely miss Emmy Rossum on the show and I’m not sure that it will be the same without her, but we definitely still have a lot of Gallagher fun to keep us entertained.  Fiona was always the heart and soul of the show for me and I feel like I just said goodbye to my best friend when she got on the plane.  You’ll never be replaced, Fiona, and I hope that you get your chance at a happily ever after!  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts on Shameless below in the comments section.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
