**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“You gotta tell me what you know…”

God Is a Bullet released in limited theaters on June 23rd 2023 and is now available to rent on demand as of July 25th 2023. The cult thriller film stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Maika Monroe, Jamie Foxx, Karl Glusman, January Jones, and Chloe Guy. It runs for approximately two hours and thirty five minutes.

When a detective’s daughter is abducted by an evil cult, he accepts the help of a former member to track her down.

Here is the trailer:

God Is a Bullet features an exceptional cast and a killer premise, but is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Talented cast.

This film was filled to the brim with talented actors. The performances were solid and some actors were almost unrecognizable in their roles. They really went all in here and did the best with what they were given. The chemistry between Monroe and Coster-Waldau was off the charts. I really enjoyed the dynamic between these two characters and it was the strongest part of the movie.

Violent, bloody, and an immersive concept.

The bloody violence was extreme in this, so if that’s not for you, I’d recommend steering clear. I thought it enhanced the already dark tone of this movie. The overall concept really pulled me in and it’s even more horrifying to me that this is inspired by true events.

The Cons:

Way too long and failed to focus on the most intriguing plot points…

I am never a fan of movies over two hours in length and this one was no exception. Things felt very heavy and dull and the film had way too many moving pieces and characters. The magic was between our two main leads and the quest for revenge (which was the most interesting part of this movie) and yet we continued to branch off into unnecessary plot points that didn’t do this film any favors.

So am I in or out?

I’m 50/50 on this one…

God Is a Bullet has some terrific performances worth noting, but it dragged out its plot for too long and was mostly predictable.

It was only supposed to be temporary…but when Olivia Crewe accepts a new position that seems too good to be true, she soon discovers that twelve other girls previously had the same job as her. Only none of them lasted for more than thirty days. No notice. Nothing…right before they mysteriously disappeared without a trace.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Day Shift” on Netflix: Jamie Foxx hunts down Vampires

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I’m not exactly a pool cleaner…”

Day Shift premiered on Netflix on August 12th 2022. The vampire action comedy film stars Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, Snoop Dogg, Karla Souza, Meagan Good, and Steve Howey. It runs for an hour and fifty-three minutes.

A pool cleaner named Bud’s real gig involves hunting down vampires, but when he needs to come up with cash quick to help his family, he gets paired up with an unlikely partner while an uber vamp tries to get her revenge on him.

Here is the trailer:

Day Shift has a fun cast and some flashy fight scenes, but does it do enough to set itself apart from other vampire films? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Entertaining cast!

Jamie Foxx is always great in everything, but I especially loved the team-up between him and Dave Franco. The two characters clashed in every obvious way, but I actually think the strongest parts of the film involved these two interacting. They kind of channeled the vibe of The Other Guys, which was a lot of fun.

Snoop Dogg had a small part as well, along with Steve Howey from Shameless. The entire cast was pretty decent and they helped elevate the film when it was dragging at times.

Flashy fight scenes.

The fight scenes definitely had a John Wick style and execution. If you’re looking for lots of action, you’ll get enough in this one. The fight scene at the hive in the suburbs was probably my favorite, but there’s plenty of these scenes to enjoy up until the very end.

The Cons:

Doesn’t do enough to set itself apart from other vampire films…

This film clearly attempted to draw from The Lost Boys and From Dusk Till Dawn, but it never achieved anything close to either of these films. There were some cute names for different kinds of vampires and an interesting value system when it comes to fangs, but everything felt very shallow for the most part.

I also didn’t think that the majority of the humor landed, which was disappointing. There were some good moments between Foxx and Franco, but not everything else translated well in my opinion.

I’m in about 75 percent…

This movie has some entertaining moments and I think it fills in nicely as the “movie of the week” on Netflix, but it doesn’t do enough to reach its full potential. Either way, if you like Jamie Foxx, you can still give this one a whirl.
