“This is an unusual situation…”

The thriller crime series stars Josh Holloway, Rachel Hilson, Greg Grunberg, Camille Guaty, and Keith David. Each episode runs for approximately 50-52 minutes.

Set in the 1970’s, a getaway driver reluctantly agrees to work with a female FBI agent who is targeting the crime family he works for.

Here is the trailer:

Duster is a stylish and entertaining crime thriller with lots of potential. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Fans of J.J. Abrams and Josh Holloway are in for a treat!

LOST fans, get excited! J.J. Abrams is the c0-creator and writer of this series and he pairs up with LOST alum, Josh Holloway, who brings the charisma and then some in this role!

Honestly, it felt like I was watching a LOST spin-off where “Jim Lafleur” goes back to the real world and becomes a getaway driver. Oh wait…and his character in this series is also named Jim!

I’ve missed seeing Josh in a starring role and already he is dominating the screen. I like the partnership with him and Rachel Hilson’s character and I’m excited to see more.

Cool vibe.

The 1970’s timeline is working so far for this particular series. I love the overall vibe and the music is great too. Everything just feels very smooth and stylish, mirroring Josh Holloway’s energy.

The Cons:

Some pacing concerns.

There were a lot of moving pieces set up in the opening episode, which was fine, but I’m not really sure where this show is going just yet. It has enough things happening to keep me coming back for more, but I’m slightly concerned that this will be released each week. Sometimes I forget to tune in to the weekly shows so this could be its downfall.

That being said, I think the hook is solid enough so far.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

Duster is off to an entertaining start! It’s great to see Josh in a role well suited for him.

I’m looking forward to watching more!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Caddo Lake” on Max: Over-Complicated Thriller

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“What happened will always be a part of you…”

Caddo Lake released on October 10th 2024 on Max. The mystery thriller film stars Dylan O’Brien, Eliza Scanlen, Diana Hopper, and Lauren Ambrose. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-two minutes.

When an eight-year-old girl goes missing near a lake, a series of past disappearances begin to connect to the mystery as two protagonists search for answers.

Here is the trailer:

Caddo Lake features some eerie moments and a solid mystery at its core, but is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Solid performances.

I thought that both Dylan O’Brien and Eliza Scanlen did a good job here. They were convincing and they put forth some compelling emotions. I wish we had gotten a chance to peel back some more layers for their characters, but the intention was there and it kept me invested in the outcome of this film.

Eerie mystery.

I really was intrigued by this mystery and wanted to know more as soon as the hook was introduced. The lake was the perfect backdrop for this film, channeling some chilling and trippy vibes. The first half of this film really drew me in, but unfortunately it lost steam as things continued…

The Cons:

Gets lost in its reveal…

I didn’t see the twist coming, but I really wasn’t feeling it. Honestly, it just confused me. Everything felt so messy and over-complicated. The transitions between the two main characters were sloppy and I lost all interest by the time I got to the end. This really frustrated me because we had a simple enough mystery to lure us in and I was perfectly fine with accepting it as that. Sometimes less is more when it comes to these types of thrillers…

So am I in or out?

I’m 50/50 on this one…

Caddo Lake sets the stage for an eerie thriller and has some redeeming elements, but it ultimately goes off course with its messy and perplexing reveal.

I liked the actors in this one, but this was a confusing watch for me overall.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Caddo Lake in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Pretty Little Liars: Summer School” on Max: Our Final Girls are Back and Better than Ever!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“A is out there…”

Pretty Little Liars: Summer School is the second season of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. Season two premiered on May 9th 2024 with the first two episodes on Max. The remaining six episodes will release weekly. The teen mystery drama series (based on Pretty Little Liars) stars Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Maia Reficco, Malia Pyles, and Faran Bryant. Each episode runs for approximately 50-52 minutes.

After surviving a brutal killing spree, the girls are forced to attend summer school together while now being targeted by a killer named “Bloody Rose Waters.”

Here is the trailer:

Pretty Little Liars: Summer School stays true to its slasher spin, introducing us to some new characters and some fantastic music to indulge in. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Love these Final Girls!

I didn’t know if this series really needed a second season since it pretty much wrapped up everything at the end of season one, but I’m so happy that each character is getting more screen time this time around. Original Sin centered primarily on Imogen and Tabby so it’s nice to see the other characters getting a chance to shine.

I also really like the way the series is exploring the aftermath of the events from Original Sin and how it is impacting the girls and their relationships with others. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix.

We are learning more about each of the characters and getting a chance to see them grow. We’ve also got a few new potential love interests as well, which will keeps things fresh.

Hooked already.

I’ve been watching PLL since the original series and have seen every spin-off. I’m happy to report that I am just as hooked with this new season. It may not have been needed, but so far I’m digging the “hot girl summer” with a new masked killer on the loose. I hope we get some more epic chase scenes because they were really great last season.

I can’t wait to see how this all unfolds!

The Cons:

The sub-plots are a little boring so far…

I’m hoping this improves. PLL is known for having a balance of a solid killer mystery and juicy drama, but so far I’ve been a little bored during the fluff moments. I do like a few of the new characters and I’m sensing a spark between certain characters, but some of the transitions feel a little forced.

Episode two was a lot stronger than episode one so I’m remaining confident that we’ll get back on track with the mystery and I’d love to see some kills with a touch more gore sprinkled in to hold my attention.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

Pretty Little Liars: Summer School is just as addicting as season one, presenting us with a new mystery with lots of potential and some slasher fun for good measure.

It’s safe to say that I will be tuning in each week for this one!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Full Circle” on Max: A Riveting Crime Thriller!

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“It never begins…and thus it never ends…”

Full Circle premiered on Max on July 13th 2023 with the first two episodes available to stream now. There will be six episodes in total. Two episodes will release each week. The crime thriller mini-series stars Claire Danes, Timothy Olyphant, Zazie Beetz, and Dennis Quaid. Each episode runs for approximately 40-48 minutes.

A kidnapping in New York City connects several strangers, revealing long-held secrets along the way.

Here is the trailer:

Full Circle has a talented cast, an addicting premise, and plenty of layers to keep the audience coming back for more. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Max

All-star cast!

I’ve been waiting for Claire Danes to dominate the television screen again and she’s paired with Timothy Olyphant…talk about a dream come true! But that’s not all. We also have the charming Zazie Beetz and a number of other fantastic actors. There is a lot of talent here and I’m just hoping each character gets enough time to shine in six episodes. So far they are doing a great job and I’m waiting for Claire Danes to channel her inner Carrie Mathison already!

Images courtesy of Max

A solid hook.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about this series at first, but by the time I got to the end of episode one, I was completely hooked and I was immediately pressing play on the next episode. I wish I didn’t have to wait for more episodes because this series is really addicting and I already have a lot of working theories.

This series doesn’t follow your typical crime thriller formula, but it is still doing enough to captivate our attention completely and I can’t wait for the rest of the puzzle pieces to come together. This is a consuming watch already and I can’t wait to see more!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Max

A lot to keep track of…

At one point I thought I was watching two different shows. Be prepared for a lot of sub-plots. I am confident that everything will connect by the end of each episode, but you do need to pay attention to this one. This style may not be for everyone, but so far it isn’t getting in the way of the crime mystery at the center.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

Full Circle is an engrossing watch filled with plenty of secrets and thrills to keep you tuning in each week.

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Idol” on Max: “Entourage” meets “Fifty Shades of Grey”

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Look at what she’s overcome…”

The Idol premiered on June 4th 2023 on HBO and Max with its first episode. There will be five episodes in total that will air weekly. The drama series stars Lily-Rose Depp, The Weeknd, and Rachel Sennott. Each episode runs for approximately 58-60 minutes.

After recovering from a nervous breakdown, a pop star named Jocelyn tries to get her career back on track when she begins a relationship with a contemporary cult leader named Tedros.
Here is the trailer:

The Idol has already stirred up a lot of controversy even before the premiere aired due to its sexually explicit and vulgar content, but is this show worth watching? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Max

Lily-Rose Depp steps into the role flawlessly.

She oozes style, perfection, and sex appeal and truly embraces this role. I’d love to see some more character layers and I’m hopeful that we will get there, but when you think about a pop star like Britney Spears (I assume that’s what they are going for), Lily-Rose Depp is checking off all the necessary boxes and then some.

She has been commanding the screen with her electric presence.

There are a lot of characters in this one so it’s hard to see who else could steal the show, but so far I am also loving Rachel Sennott (Bodies Bodies Bodies) and I think she could be a real contender if she gets enough screen time.

Images courtesy of Max

Something to talk about…

There has been a lot of controversy along with many negative reviews about this show even before it aired. Let’s be honest, that gives people something to talk about and the show is pushing enough envelopes to strike up a conversation with its audience. Whether it’s love or hate, this show will definitely be a topic of discussion for weeks to come.

On another note, I like the music so far and I also think that the series is shot in a stylish way. It needs a lot more than that to keep me coming back for more, but it has some potential. It actually started off pretty strong, but it did go off course as the episode continued…

I’d personally like to see the series focus more on Jocelyn and her rise to fame, but it looks like we are heading in a totally different direction.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Max

Contrived and vulgar…

The dialogue is atrocious and so crude. It feels forced and very unrealistic. This series is clearly trying to make a statement and be outrageous with its sexual content, but a lot of it is not coming off in an organic way, which makes it simply feel silly and shallow.

I also think that the series is focusing on the wrong things and it thinks it is edgier than it actually is. The premiere episode dragged for a while and if things don’t pick up soon, a lot of people will probably tune out.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Max

I’m 50/50 on this one…

This series is not as bad as critics are saying and it does have some glimmers of potential, but a lot more needs to happen to keep me tuning in each week.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on The Idol in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
