Spoiler-Free Review of “PRIMATE” in Theaters: Bonkers & Bananas in the Best Possible Way!

“Something’s wrong with Ben…”

PRIMATE released in theaters on January 9th 2026. The horror film stars Johnny Sequoyah, Victoria Wyant, Jessica Alexander, Gia Hunter, and Troy Kotsur. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty minutes.

Lucy travels to her home in Hawaii with her friends for their summer vacation, but after their pet chimpanzee gets infected with rabies, they are forced to work together to survive before he kills them all one by one.

Here is the trailer:

PRIMATE is a wild ride from start to finish featuring some outrageous and gruesome moments. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Lots of well-placed gore.

In a lot of ways, this movie felt like a solid slasher to me. Sure, the killer was a chimp, but it still essentially had that slasher feel to it, keeping me on the edge of my seat. The gore was really over-the-top and disturbing, which worked well here. This movie really went for it without holding back and I think it paid off ultimately.

Fast watch with little fluff.

This movie was just about 90 minutes, which is the perfect length for slasher films in my opinion. There was minimal set-up and the majority of the movie focused on the girls trying to escape, which made this such an entertaining popcorn watch. Sure, it was silly at times, but the horror genre is off to a promising start for 2026 with this entry. More please!

PS: that house in Hawaii was to die for…literally!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Paramount Pictures

Minimal investment in the characters.

Other than Lucy, I was not really too impressed with the other characters here and I didn’t care who lived or died. I guess that doesn’t always matter in a slasher film like this where you can ultimately root for the killer, but it seemed like we glossed over a few moments that could have made me invest a little more here in what happened to everyone.

I’m also a huge animal lover so while this movie was silly and fun, I’m never really a fan of anything bad happening to animals so there’s that (Yes, I get that this was a guy dressed in a suit, but still the concept bothered me).

I do have to point out that there was a puppy in the movie theater near the front row. I hope she wasn’t too traumatized by all of this!

So am I in or out?

Spoiler-Free Review of “Fight or Flight” in Theaters: Josh Hartnett is Bad-Ass and Bonkers in this Breezy Action Thriller!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I’m done…”

Fight or Flight released in US theaters on May 9th 2025. It previously released in the UK back in February 2025. The action thriller film stars Josh Hartnett, Charithra Chandran, Julian Kostov, and Katee Sackhoff. It runs for approximately an hour and forty minutes.

A mercenary reluctantly accepts an assignment to protect a target named “The Ghost” on a flight in order to clear his name, but when a bounty is put on both their heads, they are forced to work together to survive.

Here is the trailer:

Fight or Flight is filled with non-stop action and plenty of gruesome fight scenes. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Josh Hartnett dominates the screen!

I am so happy that he is appearing in films again. I loved him in last year’s Trap and he was bloody fantastic in Fight or Flight as well. He knows how to bring on the charm even during bonkers moments and it just worked perfectly with his character.

This film was far from serious and he just went with it. I loved all of his ill-fitting outfits so much and his expressions were priceless.

Brutal fight scenes!

Similar to films like Bullet Train and John Wick, this film delivered with insane fight scenes. Some of them were really inventive and they didn’t hold back in the gore department, which was appreciated.

Sure, they were outrageous and far-fetched, but they were also really entertaining, giving us plenty of blood-soaked moments to indulge in.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Vertical

The external scenes weren’t as effective.

I personally preferred the moments within the bubble of the plane. The pacing was great and the elements of humor worked for the most part. When the film tried to explain things too much or show us scenes outside of this bubble, it didn’t work as well. There were some really fun supporting characters and others I could have done without.

So am I in or out?

Fight or Flight is mindless bloody fun, featuring an entertaining performance by Josh Hartnett.

Enjoy the ride!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Death of a Unicorn” in Theaters: An Absolute Blast!

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“I think we know exactly what it is…”

Death of a Unicorn released in theaters on March 28th 2025. The horror comedy film stars Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Téa Leoni, Sunita Mani, and Will Poulter. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-eight minutes.

After a father and his daughter accidentally strike a unicorn with their car, his boss attempts to exploit the magical creature’s curing abilities, leading to deadly consequences.

Here is the trailer:

Death of a Unicorn successfully blends horror and comedy in this outrageous flick filled with magically entertaining moments. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Good balance of laughs, heartfelt moments, and gore.

I get so excited when a horror comedy can accomplish this. It’s no easy task, but as long as you go into this movie expecting it to be outrageous and bonkers, you’ll have the best time.

The Leopold family reminded me quite a bit of the family in Ready or Not and we had that same kind of humor throughout the film. I think it worked very well and Will Poulter was a scene stealer.

I loved the violence and gore in the second half of the film. It really complimented the darker humor well and the sweeter moments actually warmed my heart, making the bond between Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega’s characters an effective one. Plus, I love unicorns so there’s that!

Loved the inclusion of actual unicorn lore!

The Unicorn Tapestries display at the Cloisters museum is one of my favorites and I absolutely loved that this film included and drew from it. This film recognized that it had a silly concept, but it also did its homework, providing us with lots of interesting myths and stories to enhance the overall plot.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of A24

A touch too long…

I think this film could have been a little bit shorter. The second half was a lot stronger for me than the first. The pacing was solid enough so I don’t think this was a major con, but I personally like my horror comedies at about 90 minutes to eliminate any unnecessary fluff.

So am I in or out?

Death of a Unicorn is trippy, completely bonkers, and A LOT of fun!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Scream Therapy” on Demand: A Decent Horror Comedy

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“We are kidnapping you for the weekend…”

Scream Therapy released on demand on June 18th 2024. The horror comedy film stars Harley Bronwyn, Claire Dellamar, Mandie Cheung, Brian Flaccus, and Skyler Bible. It runs for approximately an hour and twenty minutes.

Five friends head out on a weekend trip to the desert when they cross paths with a group of men who plan to sacrifice them before the sun comes up.

Here is the trailer:

Scream Therapy is an entertaining horror comedy that actually delivers with some of its banter and movie references, leaning more on the comedy side of the genre. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Believable friendships.

I actually really appreciated that this film took the time to flesh this out. We didn’t get too much background on any of the characters, but you could tell that they were all close friends from their interactions. It helped me root for them that much more.

A lot of the jokes actually landed for me.

Not all of them, but I was surprised by how much I actually laughed during this one. I loved the banter and the movie references as well. It didn’t feel forced, which was really refreshing.

The Cons:

Needed to lean more into the horror side of things.

I loved the cheesy comedy and the premise of this film, but I wish it dipped a little bit more into the horror side of things. Some over-the-top gore would have been a nice touch. This film clearly had a lower budget, but this would have really sold me on it.

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

Scream Therapy is mindless fun!

This film was far from perfect, but it was A LOT better than I thought it would be.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Sheroes” on Demand: Mindless Fun in the Sun

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“We need to handle this…”

Sheroes released on Demand on July 7th 2023. The action-comedy film stars Sasha Luss, Wallis Day, Skai Jackson, and Isabelle Fuhrman. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty minutes.

Four friends take a trip to Thailand, but when one of their bags gets mixed up, they find themselves in a world of trouble.

Here is the trailer:

Sheroes is a mix of Spring Breakers and Charlie’s Angels with girl power to the extreme, but does it do enough to be worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Paramount

Pretty to look at…

From the cast, to the setting, to the aesthetically pleasing cinematography…everything is just bright and lovely to watch. I loved some of the fashion choices and that car was to die for…

The girls give it their all…

While some of the acting was severely lacking, I thought that our main stars put forth a valiant effort here and did the best with what they were given. They embraced the brainless, silly fun and just went with it.

If you don’t try to make sense of any of this, it is actually kind of entertaining once you get past the opening. Some of the action and fight sequences were enjoyable and I started to like the characters more as the movie continued.

The Cons:

Rocky start…

This movie was really tough to watch for the first thirty minutes. It was basically just a mash-up of tropes, clichés, and utter nonsense. Luckily things improved when we got to the action parts, but the set-up was so ridiculous and unbelievable.

I’m not sure if this film was trying to be a parody, but a lot of the humor didn’t land for me and whenever the girls started to quote or reference good action movies, it just made this film seem shallow in comparison.

I’m all for girl power and I’ll even go with the ridiculous notion that one knows how to handle a kidnapping situation when their dad makes action films, but a lot of this was pretty painful to sit through.

Just try not to think about it and it does get kind of entertaining as it continues, however…

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Paramount

I’m in about 75 percent…

This film was far from perfect and really ridiculous at times, but it did have some fun moments. As long as you don’t try to follow any kind of logic, you’ll have a decent time watching it.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Sheroes in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
