Heretic weaves together a thought-provoking and unnerving story filled with plenty of chilling moments. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Hugh Grant delivers a stellar performance.

I’m used to seeing Hugh Grant in some of my favorite rom-coms, but he showed off his exceptional range in this film. He was so creepy, elevating any stale content to something extraordinary and compelling by his mere presence. He should seriously get an award for this one. He held my attention the whole time, keeping me on the edge of my seat.

I love that Sophie Thatcher is appearing in more horror films. She is one to watch for sure and I thought that Chloe East gave a convincing performance as well. This was a small cast, but everyone put forth believable performances that really lured the audience into these four walls in such an effective way.

Unsettling from start to finish…

There wasn’t much going on in this film and at the same time, there was SO MUCH going on. The tension was insane in this one. I didn’t think I would care for this film, but I was really intrigued by the debate going on within these four walls. Everything was executed in such a poetic and subtle way. There was just this endless feeling of being uncomfortable throughout the entire film. It worked so well, bringing me along for the ride, and I was thoroughly satisfied by the final act.

The Cons:

Sluggish pacing at times.

Be prepared for a slow burn. This one did have some issues with initial pacing, but Hugh Grant kept me invested enough that I didn’t really mind. I think as long as you go into this one understanding that, you’ll still enjoy the film…although I’m not sure that it’s for everyone.

The characters made some terrible decisions at times, but then we wouldn’t have a movie if they didn’t…

So am I in or out?

Goes hard in the best way possible!

I mean…wow! This film wasn’t afraid to push itself over the edge with insane body horror and utterly terrifying moments that will be imprinted in my brain for the rest of time. I’m not usually the biggest fan of the religious horror genre, but it’s certainly presenting us with some recent strong entries like Immaculate and now The First Omen.

I’m definitely a fan now and was beyond disturbed by so many moments throughout this film. Cringe-worthy to the max!

Nell Tiger Free is bloody extraordinary!

She poured so much into this role and had me on the edge of my seat. Talk about committing to a role…

She was so convincing and fantastic in this film, elevating it that much more with her brilliant performance.

A Prequel that makes sense.

I’ve seen my fair share of horror prequels, but this one might take the cake. It carved in enough of its own identity while still reminding us of its ultimate purpose, which I appreciated. This was everything a prequel should be!

The Cons:

Not for the squeamish…

This really isn’t a con, but more of a warning for those of you with weak stomachs who don’t really mesh well with extreme body horror. There’s plenty of that so just be mindful of that if that’s not really your jam.

And if it is, well, you’re in for a real treat!

So am I in or out?

I’m in 100 percent!!!

The First Omen is a horror masterpiece!

Religious horror reigns supreme in this twisted and insane entry that will stick with you long after it’s over.

It was only supposed to be temporary…but when Olivia Crewe accepts a new position that seems too good to be true, she soon discovers that twelve other girls previously had the same job as her. Only none of them lasted for more than thirty days. No notice. Nothing…right before they mysteriously disappeared without a trace.

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

Immaculate explores the horrors that can exist away from the rest of the world in an extremely disturbing way. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Unsettling and horrifying moments.

There was something so utterly terrifying about the overall tone of this film. Sure, some of it was utter nonsense but it still chilled me to my core and had my skin crawling during several key moments. I left the theater in complete shock after what I had just witnessed. It was extreme, intense, and absolutely insane in the best way possible.

Sydney Sweeney proves her worth.

Wow, she was FANTASTIC in this role. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but as the film continued to build and build, her performance got stronger along with it. She poured so much into her portrayal and unleashed something spectacular. She’s an absolute star and she just carved her way into the horror genre, making this a performance to remember for sure.

More please!

The Cons:

The weak jump scares didn’t add anything…

I really hate when films do this because it disrupts the overall tone of the film. This film was already terrifying enough with its content. It didn’t need these at all to provide shock value. Trust me.

The film started off really strong, but the pacing did slow down for a while after this. This wasn’t a major con because I expected this to be a slow burn, but be prepared for some fluff to sit through before you get to the extreme insanity.

So am I in or out?
