Spoiler-Free Review of “Scream 7” in Theaters: Neve Campbell Brings the Nostalgia

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“There SHE is…”

Scream 7 released in theaters on February 27th 2026. The seventh installment of my favorite franchise of all time gives fans a chance to see Neve Campbell on the big screen as Sidney Prescott (Evans) once again. The slasher horror film stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Joel McHale, Matthew Lillard, Anna Camp, Ethan Embry, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. The film runs for approximately an hour and fifty-six minutes.

Sidney has built a quiet life with her family in a small town, but a Ghostface threat from her past begins to target her and her teenage daughter.

Here is the trailer:

Scream 7 has a nostalgic feel to it with Kevin Williamson directing, bringing fans of the franchise plenty of Easter eggs and heartwarming moments to appreciate, but does it do enough to measure up to the other films? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Welcome back, Sidney Prescott!

Even though I absolutely loved Scream VI and it was one of my favorite entries of the franchise, there was something missing…and her name is Sidney Prescott (Evans). Well, Sidney is back as our leading lady in the seventh film and it was amazing seeing her in this role once again. She was bad-ass and resilient, reminding everyone that she is definitely not “past her prime.”

If you came to see Sidney, you’ll get plenty of her in this film.

This film did have a lot of nostalgia surrounding it and I appreciated that we finally took the time to talk about certain character deaths that were always glossed over in the previous films. I thought this was a nice touch.

Solid cast with FANTASTIC cameos!

In addition to Neve Campbell returning, we got to see several more familiar faces and I thought everyone did a great job here. The cameos were amazing and Matthew Lillard is on another level! I loved every second of it!

The newcomers did an OK job, but I think they should have been given a little bit more to do…

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Paramount Pictures

The stakes didn’t seem as high…

For some reason, this felt like such a tame entry. There were too many survivors in the end and a lot of the kills felt toned down. I just never felt any sense of real danger for our characters here.

I also wasn’t a huge fan of Sidney’s daughter. I thought she was kind of boring and her friends were even worse. Usually I invest a lot in these characters so I care more when their lives are put in danger, but that didn’t really happen here with a few exceptions.

I thought the opening sequence was solid and there was a nice balance of laughs and slasher fun, but it did feel very dialed down. The killer reveal was also just kind of meh.

That being said, I’ll always love the Scream movies and I still had a lot of fun watching this one. I guess I just wanted more.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

Scream 7 gives Neve Campbell a chance to shine once again as Sidney Prescott with some bloody fun cameos to be excited about. Overall this was a tame, but entertaining popcorn watch.

This was probably one of my least favorite entries to the franchise, but I still enjoyed it.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Scream 7 in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

This competition is killer…

When former friends, Shay and Adriana team up to participate in a Halloween scavenger hunt with a cash prize, they temporarily put their differences aside to outsmart their opponents. However, they soon start to realize that a dangerous threat is playing their own version of the game, stalking them during each hunt.

Winning is now a necessity as their lives are at stake. As old wounds and memories re-surface, Shay and Adriana attempt to unmask the threat before the night is over, but soon learn that Scream Hunt is not done with them just yet…

Spoiler-Free Review of “Smile 2” in Theaters: A Superior Sequel!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“Do you believe in like weird stuff?”

Smile 2 premiered in theaters on October 18th 2024. The supernatural psychological horror film stars Naomi Scott, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dylan Gelula, Peter Jacobson, and Kyle Gallner. It runs for two hours and seven minutes.

A pop star named Skye Riley is trying to make her upcoming tour a success after battling substance abuse and surviving a car accident, but when she witnesses a horrifying event that she can’t explain, she begins to lose control of her life and sanity.

Here is the trailer:

Smile 2 is a chilling, terrifying, and unhinged trip that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Paramount Pictures

Scream QUEEN, Naomi Scott!

Wow, she was absolutely fantastic in this! I didn’t think that anyone could top Willa Fitzgerald’s performance in Strange Darling, but Naomi Scott just gave the performance of her life and I loved EVERY SECOND OF IT! She was fierce, captivating, and willing to give this film her all. She just became one of my favorite scream queens of all time with that performance and I hope she appears in more horror films in the future.

Favorite performance of the year!

Seriously, I have chills.

So creepy and disturbing!

Similar to the vibe of the first film, the sequel had plenty of terrifying moments. It was fun seeing this in a packed theater. There were so many moments that had people jumping. This film descended into darkness a lot quicker than the original one, which was fantastic to experience. I loved the psychological elements and that ending was jaw-dropping in the best possible way!

OK and can we talk about that music?! I loved it!

The Cons:

A few unanswered questions.

This wasn’t a major con and I actually think it will create an interesting discussion among fans, but I had a little trouble piecing together what was actually happening in this film at times (which I think was the point). I was along for the ride and willing to go with it, but I had a few questions by the time I got to the end that were never fully addressed.

Maybe we’ll get a part three?

So am I in or out?

I’m in 100 percent!!!

Smile 2 is a frightening and trippy experience that will leave your heart pounding. Naomi Scott just gave the best performance of the year and I truly hope she’s recognized for it!

DON’T TAKE THE JOB…

It was only supposed to be temporary…but when Olivia Crewe accepts a new position that seems too good to be true, she soon discovers that twelve other girls previously had the same job as her. Only none of them lasted for more than thirty days. No notice. Nothing…right before they mysteriously disappeared without a trace.

Spoiler-Free Review of “MaXXXine” in Theaters: It’s Mia Goth’s World and We’re All Just Living In It!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I always wanted to be famous…”

MaXXXine releases in theaters on July 5th 2024. The slasher horror film is the third installment of the X franchise and it stars Mia Goth, Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monaghan, Moses Sumney, Halsey, and Elizabeth Debicki. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.

Six years after surviving a massacre in Texas, Maxine Minx gets her big break in 1980’s Hollywood. However, when a serial killer named the Night Stalker targets young women in the city, Maxine’s bloody past is brought back to the present.

Here is the trailer:

MaXXXine once again allows Mia Goth to shine in this bloody fantastic world, channeling classic horror films in a stylish and entertaining way. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of A24

Transports us to another place and time with style!

Everything screamed 80’s perfection from the bubble gum pop font in the opening credits to the music. The fashion was on another level and I want Maxine’s boots for obvious reasons…

I loved the crime noir feel. It was nice to see that Ti West took the time to truly depict how this world was in such an aesthetically pleasing way. It made my watch so much better and reminded me why I absolutely love the 80’s.

Much like X, this film also successfully paid homage to classic films in a fun way without overdoing it. It was fantastic to see as a horror fan.

Images courtesy of A24

Mia Goth does it again!

This should really come as no surprise since I think she is exceptional in everything she does. She was on another level in Pearl and she gave us an electric performance now in MaXXXine.

I loved that we got the chance to truly experience Maxine’s story this time around. There were hints of this in X, but we didn’t have time to explore it. This movie definitely answered all those questions I had in a satisfying way.

Mia Goth is a modern scream queen in the best way possible and she really poured everything she had into this role with twisted charisma. I loved her performance.

Some brutal kills!

There weren’t as many of them in this movie, but the ones we witnessed will be haunting me for some time to come. Especially that one scene…yikes!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of A24

Phones it in with the plot…

My only issue with this film was that it didn’t take the time to flesh out the plot. I was actually really interested in certain aspects of the mystery killer and I think we glossed over some opportunities here.

We also didn’t spend enough time with other characters, which was a miss in my opinion. We had such a spectacular cast here and I get that this is Maxine’s movie, but this needed some work so we would actually care about who lived or died…

This isn’t really a con, but this movie didn’t feel like the third installment of a franchise. It felt like more of a spin-off with Maxine’s character in another world. This isn’t a bad thing and I think it worked effortlessly for the most part, but I guess I was expecting some kind of bloody finale here and I’m not sure that it pulled that off.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

MaXXXine carves its way into the spotlight with sex, style, and blood galore, featuring an unforgettable and electric performance by Mia Goth.

While probably my least favorite film of the franchise, MaXXXine still has plenty of fantastic moments to appreciate and is well worth the watch.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on MaXXXine in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Strangers: Chapter 1” in Theaters: What was the point?

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Why are you doing this to us?”

The Strangers: Chapter 1 released in theaters on May 17th 2024. The slasher horror film stars Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez. It runs for approximately 90 minutes.

After their car breaks down in a small town in Oregon, a young couple is forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. They are soon terrorized by three masked strangers with no motive, as they desperately try to survive the night.

Here is the trailer:

The Strangers: Chapter 1 continues the violent franchise with this latest reboot, but does it do enough to separate itself from the original film? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Lionsgate

Look out for Madelaine Petsch!

I bought my ticket for her and she served with all she had! I’m a huge fan of hers from Riverdale and I think that she is a Scream Queen in the making for sure. I hope to see her cast in more roles soon. She was the best part of this movie and gave it all she had. Plus, I loved her nail polish color!

Froy Gutierrez wasn’t bad either and I thought they were believable as a couple for the most part.

There were a few suspenseful moments sprinkled in. I liked the scenes in the woods, which had an eerie vibe.

The pros stop here though…

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Lionsgate

Follows the original film VERBATIM!

I just did my re-watch of the 2008 film as well as The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018) and I couldn’t believe that this film followed the original one almost exactly. I’m fine with this being a reboot, but give us something new here! This was so incredibly frustrating to watch on screen and it dissolved any potential moments of suspense and tension because I already knew what was going to happen.

I’m not sure why we went in this direction and I have no idea why we need two more of these films if this is what we’re doing?

We can do a lot better here…

Images courtesy of Lionsgate

Dumb decisions!

As much as I like both of these actors, their characters made some of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen in a horror film. My favorite film of the franchise is The Strangers: Prey at Night because it’s fun and campy. But I will give The Strangers (2008) credit for creating a realistic and horrifying nightmare that still haunts me to this day. That feeling of authenticity was missing from this reboot and a lot of that came from the dumb decisions made by these characters.

There were so many opportunities to run or find a weapon and for some reason they wanted to have a precious moment together or just stare at the door willing the intruders to go away. Really? Do you think that’s going to work?

The ending felt so watered down and I could care less about the set-up at the end for the next film. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHO TAMARA IS! Sigh…

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Lionsgate

I’m 50/50 on this one…

Look, I’m in for Madelaine Petsch, but she deserved a MUCH better film here and so did the audience.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 wasn’t horrible, but it was a pointless remake that had very little to say, which was beyond disappointing. I really hope that the next two films do something different.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on The Strangers: Chapter 1 in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Immaculate” in Theaters: A New Scream Queen Emerges!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I hope you find what you’re looking for…”

Immaculate released in theaters on March 22nd 2024. The religious horror film stars Sydney Sweeney, Álvaro Morte, Simona Tabasco, and Benedetta Porcaroli. The film runs for approximately an hour and thirty minutes.

Sister Cecilia is invited to a remote convent in Italy to take her vows as a nun, but she soon discovers that there are dark and sinister secrets lurking within that put her in immediate danger.

Here is the trailer:

Immaculate explores the horrors that can exist away from the rest of the world in an extremely disturbing way. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Neon

Unsettling and horrifying moments.

There was something so utterly terrifying about the overall tone of this film. Sure, some of it was utter nonsense but it still chilled me to my core and had my skin crawling during several key moments. I left the theater in complete shock after what I had just witnessed. It was extreme, intense, and absolutely insane in the best way possible.

Images courtesy of Neon

Sydney Sweeney proves her worth.

Wow, she was FANTASTIC in this role. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but as the film continued to build and build, her performance got stronger along with it. She poured so much into her portrayal and unleashed something spectacular. She’s an absolute star and she just carved her way into the horror genre, making this a performance to remember for sure.

More please!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Neon

The weak jump scares didn’t add anything…

I really hate when films do this because it disrupts the overall tone of the film. This film was already terrifying enough with its content. It didn’t need these at all to provide shock value. Trust me.

The film started off really strong, but the pacing did slow down for a while after this. This wasn’t a major con because I expected this to be a slow burn, but be prepared for some fluff to sit through before you get to the extreme insanity.

So am I in or out?

Immaculate is deeply disturbing, featuring a bloody captivating performance by Sydney Sweeney.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Scream VI” in Theaters: New Sequel Takes a Killer Bite Out of the Big Apple

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

What’s your favorite scary movie?

Scream VI released in theaters on March 10th 2023. The sixth installment of my favorite franchise of all time brings us close to my home as Ghostface terrorizes New York City. The slasher horror film stars Melissa Barrera, Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Jenna Ortega, Samara Weaving and Hayden Panettiere.

The Carpenter sisters are trying to start over in New York City, but Ghostface begins targeting those closest to them in this new sequel to the requel.

Here is the trailer:

Scream VI brings us a solid entry to the franchise with inventive kills, fantastic twists, and a few chase scenes to die for. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Paramount Pictures

Uses NYC in an effective way.

I was super excited that Scream was making its way to my state, but was slightly worried about how it would use this setting. Jason Takes Manhattan is one of my favorite slasher films, but Scream VI used NYC in a chilling and effective way, bringing us some edge-of-your-seat moments that were truly fantastic.

More please!

Images courtesy of Paramount Pictures

A cast to die for!

Sure, we were missing our star player, but this cast did such a wonderful job and I actually started to really care about these characters a lot more this time around.

Melissa Barrera was a SCREAM QUEEN and then some! Wow!

Our “legacy” characters really held their own as well and even stole the film at one point…

I don’t think I’ve cheered this much for a bunch of characters since Scream 2…and that had Queen SMG so that’s saying a lot!

The twists and reveals were also well-played and had me guessing! Loved them!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Paramount Pictures

I don’t really have any…

This should come as no surprise since I adore this franchise, but after thinking about it, I really loved every aspect of this movie. There was enough nostalgia and Easter eggs to keep fans happy while still keeping things fresh and new.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Paramount Pictures

I’m in 100 percent!

Already one of my favorite films of the franchise! Scream VI is bad-ass and beyond entertaining!

It’s safe to say I’ll be re-watching this one again and again!
