Spoiler-Free Review of “The Ledge” (2022) on Demand: Intense and Brutal Thriller

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“Use your mind…”

The Ledge (2022) originally released on February 18th 2022. It is currently available to stream on demand. The adventure thriller film stars Brittany Ashworth, Ben Lamb, Nathan Welsh, and Louis Boyer. It runs for an hour and twenty-five minutes.

A rock climber ends up in a life threatening situation when she flees from several men trying to kill her by climbing up a mountain with barely any equipment.

Here is the trailer:

The Ledge follows a simple formula that is actually really effective, giving us plenty of thrills and edge-of-your-seat moments. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Intense AF!

This movie really delivered for me in the intensity department. At first I wasn’t really sure about what I was going to watch and then I was completely reeled in before I knew it. There were so many moments that had me screaming at the television. I love survival-type thrillers like this. In a lot of ways, this film had the same vibe as Alone (2020), which I also really enjoyed. If you haven’t watched that one yet, you can check it out on Hulu.

The Ledge had a very simple approach, but sometimes less is more and I think that this style really suited the film.

Brittany Ashworth is fantastic!

I loved her character and I thought her performance was believable. She was very easy to root for in this. We didn’t get too much set-up in this film, but the layers of her character were later revealed during her climb and I thought that this helped the audience connect to her journey that much more.

The Cons:

Some over-acting from others…

While Brittany Ashworth really gave it her all, the guys didn’t have the same impact. There was some over-acting going on and these characters didn’t really do much for me even though we got some glimpses of potential here and there. This wasn’t a major con, but since some of the acts we witnessed were really brutal and violent, I wanted a little bit more out of the performances so that the intensity matched. Screaming “bitch” over and over isn’t really that original or effective…

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

The Ledge may seem like your average thriller, but it really delivers with brutal intensity and a captivating performance. If you enjoy films like Alone (2020) and The River Wild, you will thoroughly enjoy this adventure-thriller.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Alone” on Demand: Sometimes less is more

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“What do you want from me?”

Alone premiered on Demand on September 18th 2020. The film stars Jules Willcox and Marc Menchaca. It is approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes long.

A strange man begins stalking a widow on her road trip, quickly revealing his sinister intentions.

Here is the trailer:

Alone has the potential to chill us to our core with edge-of-your seat moments and a beyond creepy stalker, but does it do enough to stand out as a noteworthy thriller? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Alone Thriller 1

Delivers without over-complicating things.

If you’re like me, then you are watching this movie because you want to witness a fast-paced edge-of-your seat thrill ride and this film absolutely delivers. We are immediately thrown into the plot without too much set-up and while some moments may seem somewhat predictable, the film embraced its simple formula without doing too much and it worked. There are very few actors in this film, but I thought the simplicity of it made it that much more entertaining.

More please!

A worthy villain.

Sometimes the most monstrous beings out there are the ones that hide in plain sight. They seem to be friendly or harmless and maybe they even convince everyone around them that they are the good guys, but don’t ever underestimate a creepy whistle…

Seriously, I’m still creeped out!

Alone Final Girl

A Final Girl contender!

I haven’t been this excited about a potential Final Girl in a while and I thought that Jules Willcox was so believable as Jessica. I rooted for her and I embraced her courage. Seriously, she kicked ass!

The Cons:

Alone Thriller 3

Lack of initial character connection.

In the beginning of the film, I was wondering why I should really care about Jessica. While I appreciated the lack of fluff, I also wanted to connect to our main character. That being said, this happened for me later on as bits and pieces of Jessica’s past and character were revealed, but I thought it needed a few more glimmers of it in the beginning to truly capture our attention.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. I was honestly on the edge of my seat the entire time and there were some moments that were truly twisted and chilling. I thought the simplicity of this movie was really smart and as long as you manage your expectations, you will enjoy this movie.

Sometimes less is more and I thought that this movie delivered as an entertaining thriller and then some!
