Spoiler-Free Review of “Shotgun Wedding” on Prime: Light and Entertaining

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I just want everything to be perfect…”

Shotgun Wedding released on Prime Video on January 27th 2023. The rom-com-action film stars Jennifer Lopez, Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Coolidge, and Lenny Kravitz. It runs for approximately an hour and forty minutes.

Darcy and Tom bring their families to a destination wedding in The Philippines, but things go horribly wrong when pirates hold them hostage.

Here is the trailer:

Shotgun Wedding has enough entertaining moments and some believable chemistry between Lopez and Duhamel, making this an enjoyable rom-com. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Fun cast.

Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel were both a lot of fun in this one and I actually really loved the chemistry/banter between them. The rest of the cast was great too and having Jennifer Coolidge in this was a dream come true. She really brought the humor and saved this film from falling flat in a lot of ways.

Good balance of action and romance.

These are honestly my favorite kinds of rom-coms. If you enjoyed The Lost City with Sandra Bullock, you’ll get a similar vibe with this film. While I enjoyed the romantic moments, I preferred Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel on the run from the pirates. That’s where the magic was and it worked for the most part.

The Cons:

The humor is hit or miss…

I did genuinely find some parts of this movie actually really funny. However, not all of the humor landed. Some of the dialogue was really odd and it felt like the film was trying too hard in certain scenes.

The pacing also needed some work as well. I thought it took a little too long for things to happen, but once they did it improved, so this wasn’t a huge con.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

Far from perfect and definitely not my favorite Jennifer Lopez film, but if you’re looking for a quick rom-com/action flick, you’ll find enough to enjoy with this one.

A VACATION TO DIE FOR…

Blood Rose Island Ad

When sisters, Nina and Gemma are vacationing in Hawaii with their friends, they get invited to an exclusive party on a private island that seems too good to be true. There’s only one rulethey can’t miss their ferry at midnight or they’ll have to wait until morning to leave the island. Only they didn’t realize that breaking this rule meant they would be hunted down on the island one by one.

Who will make it off the island alive?

I hope you enjoy my new island thriller!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Blackout” (2022) on Netflix: Josh Duhamel can’t remember who he is…

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Do you remember how you got here?”

Blackout premiered on October 12th 2022 on Netflix. The action-thriller film stars Josh Duhamel, Abbie Cornish, and Nick Nolte. It runs for approximately an hour and twenty-two minutes.

A man wakes up in a Mexican hospital with no memory of how he got there, now hunted down by a dangerous drug cartel as he tries to piece together which side he is actually on.

Here is the trailer:

Blackout attempts to channel the films of the Bourne franchise with a familiar plot and flashy action. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Josh Duhamel is a fun lead.

He’s the main reason why I tuned into this movie and he was the best part of it. I find him captivating in everything, including the Nacho Fries commercials for Taco Bell. I thought he was bad-ass in this film and elevated a generic script as much as he could.

Plenty of action.

If you’re looking for lots of action and fight scenes, you’re in the right place. This film kind of felt like a mashup between The Bourne Identity and pretty much any Liam Neeson movie (in terms of the action at least). The film is on the shorter side and the pacing keeps things moving enough to keep you invested until the end.

The Cons:

The dialogue is really really bad.

I didn’t have high expectations for this film at all, but wow was the dialogue atrocious. I started laughing several times and not in a good way. I’m all for a mindless action flick, but this film could have been so much better if it would have put in just a little bit of effort in this department.

I’m 50/50 on this one…

I’m in for Josh Duhamel and some of the fight scenes were decent, but this film didn’t have enough edge or substance to make it that memorable. If you’re looking for a quick watch, you’ll find enough to enjoy, but I would recommend managing your expectations.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Jupiter’s Legacy” on Netflix: Standard Super Hero Show

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“We have these powers for a reason…”

Jupiter’s Legacy is a superhero action series that premiered on Netflix on May 7th 2021. There are eight episodes for part one that are available to stream now. The show stars Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb, Matt Lanter, Andrew Horton and Elena Kampouris. Each episode runs for approximately 40-45 minutes.

Based on the comic series of the same name, the show follows a group of superheroes who attempt to hand over their responsibilities to the new generation, but a dangerous threat gets in the way of their moral code.

Here is the trailer:

Jupiter’s Legacy is the latest series to bring a comic book to life for a new audience, but is there enough substance here to keep you coming back for more? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Familiar faces.

Josh Duhamel and Leslie Bibb make a pretty good team although some of Josh’s acting left a lot to be desired and what was with that wig? I was also really glad to see Matt Lanter on this series as well and I think that the rest of the cast did a decent enough job with what they were given.

Interesting flashbacks.

I actually preferred the flashbacks with the origin story more than the present day events. The time period itself was more interesting and I thought that the writers paid more attention here to keep the audience invested. While some of the flashbacks seemed forced, there was enough going on here to make them connect to the overall story without overdoing it.

The Cons:

Mediocre plot.

I got halfway through the series and started to ask myself if I even liked what I was watching. That tells me that the series is decent enough, but there is nothing truly spectacular going on to make you have to watch this.

This show could very easily fit into The CW’s lineup and I gave up on those superhero shows after wasting too much time on Arrow after it went off the deep end.

Much like the DC shows on The CW, there’s enough superhero action and drama going on here, but it’s nothing you haven’t seen before.

No humor.

One thing I really needed in this show was some well placed humor. Since the plot was already so mediocre, it needed something to prevent the series from feeling too heavy and melodramatic.

Much like Walker and October Faction, this show tried to focus on a balance between family drama and action, but it just felt dull and uninspiring.

I’m 50/50 on this one.

The show is watchable and if you really enjoy superhero action series, you will feel right at home with this one. There were some moments sprinkled in and a couple of stand-out performances, but the show just felt like a standard superhero show to me that will most likely become very forgettable in the long run.
