The Pros:

Characters to root for!

This film would not work without this key component. As the audience, when you understand the stakes of a movie like this, you have to think about whether you are invested or not in the outcome. Well, I can report that I was absolutely invested here. The characters were all exceptional and the performances were truly moving and fantastic.

David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus) was the BEST part of the film, giving us such a thought-provoking and superb performance. Wow…I’m still thinking about it!

Draws you in completely.

Honestly, I felt like I was in this movie. Time seemed to stand still and the only thing in existence was this never-ending road filled with unlikely friendships, impossible odds, and shocking moments, leading up to a jaw-dropping conclusion. This film reminded me why I fell in love with movies in the first place.

The Cons:

Really depressing at times…

I don’t really have many cons for this film because I thought it was incredible. However, it did feature some heavy, gross, and difficult content to watch at times. It’s not a film you can experience lightly. You will be sucked in and invested in what happens and it will make you think about a lot, but that’s sort of the point. Just be aware that there are some disgusting and bleak moments here.

So am I in or out?

I’m in 100 percent!

The Long Walk is an emotional, brutal, and consuming watch from start to finish.

This film is truly something special!

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Fall of the House of Usher” on Netflix: An Enthralling and Eloquent Masterpiece

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Nobody gets away with anything…not really…”

The Fall of the House of Usher is a limited series from The Haunting of Hill House creator, Mike Flanagan that released on October 12th 2023. The supernatural horror series features eight episodes available to stream now on Netflix. It stars Bruce Greenwood, Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, Willa Fitzgerald, Mark Hamill, Zach Gilford, and Carl Lumbly. Each episode runs for approximately 60-65 minutes.

Siblings, Roderick and Madeline Usher, have built an empire of wealth with their prosperous, but potentially harmful company, but when their heirs all begin dying one by one, dark secrets are unlocked.

Here is the trailer:

The Fall of the House of Usher has plenty of familiar faces from The Haunting of Hill House world, but this show has a slightly different feel, shining a light on some of the most disturbing aspects of humanity. Is this series worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

A clever mix of gothic horror and whodunnit mystery.

The gothic horror elements were absolutely present in this particular series, channeling the works of Edgar Allan Poe in a modern way. The whodunnit mystery style added some charm in as well, hooking the audience completely as we watched this unfold.

By the time I got to the end of episode two, I could not stop watching this series. The episodes were on the longer side, but it never felt that way. Each one was filled with beautiful cinematography, moving performances, and welcomed nods to a classic short story that transported me back to the page. I loved that this series embraced its inspiration while still creating something chilling, thought-provoking, and shocking of its own in the process.

Exceptional performances.

Fans of The Haunting of Hill House anthology will be pleased to see several familiar faces in this entry. We also welcomed in several new actors, who did an incredible job. Overall, I was really impressed by the performances, as these characters didn’t necessarily have the heart and soul of previous ones, but they were still layered and intriguing all the same.

Stand-out performances go to the amazing Carla Gugino and Willa Fitzgerald, who dominated the screen and then some. Wow!

The Cons:

Jam-packs in a lot…

I really don’t have too many cons for this series. Episode one was really over-stuffed with set-up and I was slightly overwhelmed by the time jumps, but I think the series found its way with this with the remaining episodes.

This series had a different feel from the others, highlighting characters obsessed with drugs, sex, and power, but it still resonated with me by the time I got to the end, proving to be another worthy Mike Flanagan series.

So am I in or out?

I’m in 1000 percent!

Sheer perfection with a deliciously dark plot worth devouring.

The best show I’ve watched all year!

If you enjoyed Mike Flanagan’s previous series, you’ll find plenty to love in this new entry that isn’t afraid to take some risks along the way that certainly pay off.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on The Fall of the House of Usher in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” Part 2 on Netflix: Something to be Excited About!

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“And where did that power get you?”

Masters of the Universe: Revelation is a continuation of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983). The new series premiered on July 23rd 2021 and was written by Kevin Smith. Part 2 released on November 23rd 2021 on Netflix. The show stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lena Headey, Chris Wood, and Mark Hamill. There are five episodes in part 2 that run for approximately 25-28 minutes each.

Eternia is in grave danger after a new power threatens to destroy everything and everyone, but does anyone have the ultimate power to stop it?

Here is the trailer:

Masters of the Universe: Revelation part 2 doesn’t hold anything back as it continues a familiar plot while creating something new and relevant in the process. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Necessary character arcs are explored.

I thought that part 2 did an excellent job with this. Each character went through an important journey of self-discovery and we even got to learn more about their past, which helped me connect to them even more. It wasn’t just about them defeating the great evil. It was about them embracing who they are, realizing that they still have time to make an impact on their own terms.

The humor continued.

There was a lot going on in these episodes, but I appreciated that the dry humor was still present because it really elevated the series and kept it truly fun and entertaining. Mark Hamill was fantastic as always and I was so beyond impressed with Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn. It’s like she was made for this role!

Reveals worth the wait!

There were some really great reveals and twists in part 2. I was so excited for some of them and they really emerged with perfect timing to keep us fully invested. Even though this is technically a series, it felt like a movie and I loved every second of it!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

A lot jam-packed into part 2…

This isn’t necessarily a con, but maybe we could have benefited from six episodes to give enough time to everything. I didn’t really mind it because the pacing was done really well and it felt like a movie, but there was a lot going on and a lot to paying attention to.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

Part 2 blew part 1 out of the water and then some! I could not stop watching this show and I had to watch all five episodes in one sitting. It was that good!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” Part 1 on Netflix: Who has the power?

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“I have the power!!!!!!!”

Masters of the Universe: Revelation is a continuation of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983). The new series premiered on July 23rd 2021 and was written by Kevin Smith. The show stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lena Headey, Chris Wood, and Mark Hamill. There are five episodes in part 1 that run for approximately 25-28 minutes each.

The new series brings us back to the world of Eternia as He-Man and Skeletor face off once again.

Here is the trailer:

Masters of the Universe: Revelation seems like a dream come true for fans of the original series, but there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the new series. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

All star cast!

It’s no secret that I absolutely love Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Game of Thrones so to discover that both Sarah Michelle Gellar (Teela) and Lena Headey (Evil-Lyn) were on the show was a dream come true. Plus, Mark Hamill is just fantastic with whatever comes his way!

Well placed humor.

Even though this is a reboot of sorts, this show is clearly meant for fans of the original series. I thought the dry humor was genius and I appreciated the fact that I was watching a show basically made for me and everyone else in my generation who grew up watching this show.

Supporting characters get to shine!

I am a fan of the original series. My brother and I are very close in age so we both watched He-Man and She-Ra growing up. She-Ra even came to my birthday party in the first grade!

I know all of the characters, but I always used to wonder more about some of the supporting characters and Kevin Smith really allowed them to reach their full potential in this new series.

I’d love a spin-off featuring Evil-Lyn though! As much as I loved SMG, Lena Headey was pure magic in this role!

The Cons:

Jarring first episode…

There will be no spoilers in this review, but I was completely shocked at the end of the first episode. This isn’t necessarily a con because I think it was a bold decision, but I guess it made me question what I was going to actually watch during this show. There have been many reactions to this and I find myself somewhere in the middle, but I was definitely thrown for a loop as well…

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

I thoroughly enjoyed my watch of this series and I’m looking forward to part 2 after that major cliffhanger! This series brought me back to my childhood, but it also created something new and different and gave other characters a chance. It’s not often that we see a reboot that still speaks to the original audience and I think that this series accomplished that.

It wasn’t just about having “the power.” It was about finding out what that meant for each and every one of us.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Masters of the Universe: Revelation in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
