Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 13 episode 13: “Devil’s Bargain”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 13 episode 13 last night, I learned that it is possible to go from a homeless beggar to the king of heaven within 24 hours.  Seems impossible, right?  Well not for our favorite foe, Lucifer, who will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Devil’s Bargain,” Sam and Dean are thrilled to have Castiel back, but they are still not any closer to finding their mother, Mary and Jack.  An unlikely frenemy approaches them and is not to be trusted but it looks like they will all need to work together in order to hunt down Lucifer.  Meanwhile, Lucifer finds a new “gal pal” in Sister Jo who is a better business woman than an angel, played by Dean’s wife in real life, Daneel AcklesMy top 5 moments from Supernatural season 13 episode 13 are:

Lucifer begs for money.

After his encounter with Castiel, Lucifer is still weakened and is seeking out a never-ending supply of grace wherever he goes.  He even takes out Cupid without a hint of remorse, leaving his lifeless corpse for the Winchester brothers to find later on.  In his weakened state, Lucifer realizes that he is hungry but doesn’t have any money on him.  He takes a cue from a nearby homeless man and tries his turn at begging for money but learns that he doesn’t really have the right vibe for this.  The homeless man explains that he comes across too forceful and aggressive and takes Lucifer for a snack out of a dumpster.  Talk about hitting rock bottom.  Perhaps Lucifer can learn a valuable lesson from the kindness of strangers.

The miracles of Sister Jo.

Daneel Ackles, Jensen Ackle’s wife in real life has joined the cast and is making quite the impression on Lucifer.  As an angel, she was considered lower level and had a monotonous responsibility that had her aspiring for more.  On earth, she puts her skills to work and finds out that she is an excellent business woman.  She heals people for money, performing miracles on a daily basis, but perhaps her most impressive skill is her ability to manipulate Lucifer.  Lucifer initially wants to drain Sister Jo of her grace, but she convinces him to keep her grace on tap, taking what he needs a little at a time so he can get to his full strength, which also keeps her alive.  She double crosses Castiel and the Winchester brothers and stands by Lucifer’s side, proving to be a worthy opponent for sure.

Ketch is back…again.

It seems like Sam and Dean cannot get rid of Mr. Ketch no matter how hard they try.  They cross paths with him again and learn that they have a common goal of taking out Lucifer.  Ketch eagerly suggests a team effort but this is not to Castiel’s liking, who instantly knocks him out with the tap of his finger as the Winchester brothers throw him in the back of their trunk for safe-keeping.  While they recognize that they need to find out what he knows, they all come to the consensus that he should be discarded afterwards.  Ketch comes in handy later on, however; saving the Winchesters from Lucifer’s wrath, but they still don’t trust him just yet.  While Mr. Ketch is resourceful, we know what he is capable of and the brothers are right to be cautious.

Lucifer reads the bible.

When Lucifer is hiding out in a motel with Sister Jo, he takes on some light reading of the bible.  Lucifer comically asks “does anybody fact check this stuff?”  While Lucifer doesn’t seem to think they got it all right in the bible, he is intrigued by it.  He even then comments about how God stole some of his best lines, continuing to read through his life story for some entertainment.

“Hail to the king…baby.”

Lucifer gathers a group of angels and tries to make a deal with them, offering to run heaven for them.  He even sweetens the deal by telling them he can get their wings back, which seems to be the right leverage.  Lucifer recognizes that he cannot obtain all this power and be on his own, which hasn’t worked for him in the past.  He needs committed soldiers who will follow his every whim.  But what about an archangel?  At the end of the episode, we learn that Gabriel is alive and being held captive.  Could he be the key to finding Jack and Mary?  Will he be able to stop Lucifer?  What is his connection to the tablets?  We will have to wait until March 1st 2018 for new episodes to return, but it’s clear that the Winchester brothers are not out of the woods just yet with all these new threats coming into power.  Stay tuned!
