Spoiler-Free Review of “Til Death Do Us Part” (2023) on Demand: An Absolute Train Wreck…

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I can’t go through with it…”

Til Death Do Us Part (2023) released in select theaters on August 4th 2023 and is now currently available to watch on demand as of September 19th 2023. The horror-thriller film stars Natalie Burn, Cam Gigandet, Jason Price, Orlando Jones, and Ser’Darius Blain. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.

After running away from her wedding, a bride must fight for her life against seven deadly groomsmen.

Here is the trailer:

Til Death Do Us Part attempts to channel films like Ready or Not and The Invitation, but does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Born to Burn Films

Fun premise with a decent female lead.

When I first saw the poster for this film, I was so excited to watch it. It screamed Ready or Not and it was billed as being from the creator of Final Destination, which I thought should be a very good thing. The actual idea behind this film was really solid and our female lead wasn’t half bad. She put forth some effort in her fight scenes (even though some of them were completely ridiculous and unbelievable) and gave me some incentive to watch until the end.

The pros stop here though…

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Born to Burn Films

Terrible dialogue and mediocre fight scenes…

The dialogue was so excruciatingly bad in this. I recognized a few actors in this one so I thought it had potential, but as soon as they opened their mouths, it was over. The fight scenes were OK and everyone spent way too much time walking around and talking about absolutely nothing for the majority of the movie.

The flashbacks felt mostly filler even though they sort of made sense by the time I got to the end. I really didn’t care at that point, but at least they gave me a break from listening to Cam Gigandet’s character recite his best man speech over and over again…

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Born to Burn Films

Unfortunately I’m out on this one…

Disappointing and excruciatingly painful to get through.

I’d recommend just watching Ready or Not again instead…

Spoiler-Free Review of “It Lives Inside” in Theaters: Utterly Terrifying!

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“There is a dark thing that feeds on those feelings…”

It Lives Inside released in theaters on September 22nd 2023. The supernatural horror film stars Megan Suri, Neeru Bajwa, Mohana Krishnan, Betty Gabriel, and Gage Marsh. It runs for approximately an hour and forty minutes.

Sam rejects her culture to fit in at school, but when a mythological demonic spirit targets her former best friend, she must learn to accept who she is and where she comes from in order to defeat it.

Here is the trailer:

It Lives Inside is engrossing from start to finish, exploring an intriguing mystery deep rooted in Hindu lore with some spine-tingling moments along the way. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Neon

Creepy and unsettling…

I thought that this film successfully built up terror in a very tangible way. It didn’t rely on jump scares or gimmicks. Rather, it created this frightening world and continued to expand on it with effective uses of light and darkness, instilling a real sense of fear in its characters and its audience.

I’ll definitely be having quite a few endless nightmares thanks to this film and I mean that as a compliment! There were a number of times I was on the edge of my seat with dread, watching the terror unfold.

Images courtesy of Neon

A compelling mystery.

I really loved the mystery and story surrounding this film. Sure, it was creepy as hell, but it also really explored some interesting aspects of Hindu mythology, creating a layered mystery that held my full attention. I loved the tie ins to culture, family, and ancestry here and there were even a few moments that reminded me of Charmed in a way, which had me cheering for these characters all the way!

I really loved Sam as a character and thought she was extremely easy to root for. I also liked all of the supporting characters, which is rare in films like these…especially when you know that everyone is not going to make it.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Neon

Plays it safe in some aspects.

I really liked this film, but I think it needed to go one step further to truly immerse us into this terrifying world. It did a great job setting it up, but perhaps it needed a R rating to achieve perfection.

Don’t get me wrong, I was still completely terrified, but I think this film could have been a horror masterpiece if it would have gone a little bit more over the edge.

There also wasn’t too much buzz around this movie. I hope that people go to the theater to see it because it is a worthy entry to horror.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

An unsettling and engrossing watch with a unique mystery at its core.

One of my favorite horror films of the year!

I was so pleasantly surprised by this one. I thoroughly enjoyed my watch and I hope that everyone gives this a chance because it really has a lot going for it.

Spoiler-Free Review of “No One Will Save You” on Hulu: Riveting Sci-Fi Horror Flick

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I’m sorry…”

No One Will Save You released on Hulu on September 22nd 2023. The sci-fi horror-thriller film stars Kaitlyn Dever. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty-three minutes.

Brynn lives alone, isolated from the rest of her town, but her world is turned upside down when alien intruders arrive one night and break into her home.

Here is the trailer:

No One Will Save You is gripping and intense, featuring an out of this world performance by Kaitlyn Dever. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Hulu

Kaitlyn Dever is beyond brilliant!

I’m already a huge fan of hers and loved her in both Unbelievable and Booksmart. However, she takes things to a new level in No One Will Save You, showing off her incredible range as an actress. She was so believable in this and my heart was pounding with every expression she made and every breath she took. When an actress can make you feel like you’re right there along with them, that’s saying something.

I’m so beyond impressed and can’t wait to see her in more horror entries because she was INCREDIBLE!

Images courtesy of Hulu

Intense AF!

I’m not usually the biggest fan of the sci-fi genre. That being said, this film changed my mind and then some. The level of intensity in this film was off the charts. It captivated me the entire time and I couldn’t look away. It was that good!

I was also so impressed that all of this was accomplished with minimal dialogue. We’ve seen that done in other movies before, but this one managed to do it in such an organic way, making us truly believe that this was all happening before our eyes. The reactions and emotions portrayed were just so real, driving the thrilling moments that much more.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Hulu

Confusing at times…

I personally like when a movie is left open for interpretation and by the time I got to the end of this one, I was confused, but it also sparked an interest within me to really think about what had just transpired and what the ending meant.

If you’re looking for something clear cut, you won’t get that here. I’m sure there will be some mixed thoughts on the ending, but this will most likely come down to preference.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Hulu

I’m in!!!

No One Will Save You is an absorbing and insane watch that will stay with you long after it’s over.

If you enjoy home invasion thrillers and sci-fi, this is the perfect mash-up for you.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Slotherhouse” on Demand: Batshit Crazy and So Much Fun!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I wanted to introduce it as the new house mascot…”

Slotherhouse released in limited theaters on August 30th 2023 and is now available to watch on demand as of September 19th 2023. The horror comedy film stars Lisa Ambalavanar, Sydney Craven, Tiff Stevenson, and Bianca Beckles-Rose. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty-three minutes.

Emily decides to adopt a sloth to help her become president of her sorority, but when her sorority sisters go missing, she suspects that her cute new friend may be behind some brutal murders.

Here is the trailer:

Slotherhouse is an entertaining horror comedy that is outrageously funny as long as you go into it expecting it to be completely bonkers. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Gravitas Ventures

Horror comedy gold!

OK, I was a little skeptical at first. A slasher film featuring a sloth?! It sounds ridiculous and it is, but wow was it a lot of fun. This movie was so self-aware and extremely funny. It recognized what it was and took the audience on a super fun roller-coaster ride, while still managing to somehow provide us with an important life lesson at the end. Call me impressed!

Images courtesy of Gravitas Ventures

A villain to root for!

Alpha may be my new favorite horror villain. Cute and cuddly, but so unpredictable and sassy! I had such a blast watching Alpha. The more ridiculous and absurd…the better! These girls had no idea who they were dealing with!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Gravitas Ventures

Needed more time devoted to the killings…

Don’t get me wrong…we had some amazing and hilarious kill scenes, but I wanted some more gore and I was also disappointed that we rushed a few of them through a montage. We spent a lot of time on silly dialogue between the sorority sisters, but we needed a little bit more screen time for Alpha’s impressive killing spree. The last thirty minutes kicked things into high gear though!

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

Slotherhouse is outrageously silly in all the right ways!

As long as you just go with it, you’ll have a blast watching this one.

Spoiler-Free Review of “American Horror Story: Delicate” Premiere on FX: Off to a Creepy Start!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“It’s gonna happen this time…”

American Horror Story season 12 has arrived! The new season premiered on September 20th 2023 with its first episode on FX (next day on Hulu). Episodes will air weekly. The season will feature 10 episodes in total. The first five episodes will be devoted to Part one (Delicate) and then the second half of the season will air at a later time with another five episodes.

Each episode runs for approximately 42-48 minutes. AHS: Delicate stars Emma Roberts, Kim Kardashian, and Cara Delevingne.

Anna has been trying to have a baby for quite some time after several failed attempts at IVF, but her luck may be turning around with the newest trial. Only it leads to some dark and disturbing hallucinations, making us wonder what she may be actually carrying inside of her.

Here is the trailer:

American Horror Story: Delicate has a solid cast and a disturbing premise with lots of potential. Is it worth a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of FX

Great cast!

I was thrilled to find out that Emma Roberts was starring in this season. She’s no stranger to the AHS series and I’m confident that she will deliver as the leading lady. I wasn’t initially sure how I felt about Kim Kardashian starring in this, but so far she’s doing a decent job and I’m excited to see her do more. I’m sure we’ll see some more familiar faces along the way from the AHS family, which is always lots of fun.

Images courtesy of FX

Super creepy premise.

I’ve seen other horror films that center around the urgency of getting pregnant and they have managed to freak me out to new levels. I’m hoping that this series can do so and more. So far there are a lot of weird factors going on and I’m anxious to see everything unfold. It’s off to a great start though!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of FX

Can it stick the landing?

I’ve seen every season of AHS and many of them start off in such a promising way, but then they go completely off the rails in the end. I’m hoping that with five episodes, AHS: Delicate can deliver a satisfying ending, but we’ll have to stick around to find out.

So am I in or out?

AHS: Delicate is off to a freaky start with lots of potential.

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Retirement Plan” in Theaters: Enjoyable Action-Comedy

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“No one will find you there…”

The Retirement Plan is an action-comedy film that released on September 15th 2023 in select theaters. The film stars Nicolas Cage, Ashley Greene, Ron Perlman, Ernie Hudson, and Thalia Campbell. It runs for an hour and forty-three minutes.

After her husband takes something from the wrong people, Ashley and her daughter seek out the help of her estranged father to escape a dangerous crime boss.

Here is the trailer:

The Retirement Plan features a fun cast, some hilarious and heartwarming moments, and some inventive fight scenes. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Productivity Media

Great action and creative fight scenes.

Nicolas Cage plays this part to perfection. He’s a little bit crazy and very bad-ass, which makes the perfect combination. This film is brought to us from the same production company as The Baker and several of the same actors appear in it, which was a welcomed surprise.

The fight scenes were well choreographed and they really used the setting to their advantage, making this a lot of fun for action fans.

Images courtesy of Productivity Media

Good balance of genres.

There were some moments in this film that had me laughing out loud. Nicolas Cage seamlessly provided some welcomed sarcasm and fun with his character. I also really liked the heartwarming moments too and I thought that Thalia Campbell was terrific as Ashley’s daughter.

She elevated every scene and whether she was paired with Cage or Perlman, these moments were pure magic and the best parts of the movie.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Productivity Media

I wanted a little more from the ending.

It was solid and I can’t complain too much about the conclusion, but there were a few loose ends that needed to be tied up. I also wanted something a little bit more explosive since we were building up to this final showdown.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

A fun and breezy comedy-action flick packed with great fight scenes and a talented cast.

If you’re looking for a quick action-comedy film to enjoy, this one fits the bill.

Spoiler-Free Review of “A Haunting in Venice” in Theaters: A Solid Halloween-themed Murder Mystery

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Time to put some life back into your life…”

A Haunting in Venice released in theaters on September 15th 2023. The murder mystery film stars Kenneth Branagh, Tina Fey, Kelly Reilly, Kyle Allen, Jamie Dornan, and Michelle Yeoh It runs for approximately an hour and forty-three minutes.

Belgian detective, Poirot, is back in this adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel, Hallowe’en Party, as he takes a break from retirement to solve a murder involving some deadly spirits.

Here is the trailer:

A Haunting in Venice gives fans of Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile a chance to experience a new mystery with eerie potential involving Poirot, but does this film measure up? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of 20th Century Studios

A breathtaking setting.

I always find these films to be aesthetically pleasing, but this setting of Venice in the 1940’s was absolutely divine and so lovely to witness on the large screen. This film was beautifully shot and even the chilling and unsettling moments complimented the backdrop well, immersing the audience into a gorgeous world worth noting.

Images courtesy of 20th Century Studios

A compelling murder mystery with a satisfying reveal.

This film followed a similar pattern to other films based on Agatha Christie novels, but this one might have been my favorite. I may be partial because I absolutely adore Halloween and anything related to it, but I really loved the balance between logic and the supernatural in this one.

It really kept me on the edge of my seat and I thought the reveal was very well done.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of 20th Century Studios

Slow moving at times.

I come to expect this with these types of films, but the middle dragged a little bit for me. I appreciated that this film was shorter than Death on the Nile, however. This wasn’t a major con and I think that the film did enough in the beginning and end of the film to capture the audience’s full attention, but I’d recommend watching this one when you’re fully awake…

So am I in or out?

Spoiler-Free Review of “Wilderness” on Prime Video: Gone Girl Style Thriller Has its Moments

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“We trust each other…right?”

Wilderness premiered on September 15th 2023 on Prime Video with all six episodes available to stream now. The revenge thriller series (based on the novel of the same name) stars Jenna Coleman, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ashley Benson, and Eric Balfour. Each episode runs for approximately 50-58 minutes.

A spontaneous vacation turns into a nightmare when a seemingly happy couple begins to unravel, leading to a downward spiral of betrayal and revenge.

Here is the trailer:

Wilderness attempts to channel films like Gone Girl and Promising Young Woman with a Lifetime-esque tone, leading to plenty of juicy twists along the way. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Prime Video

Dream cast.

I’m a huge fan of Ashley Benson from Pretty Little Liars and I was super happy to see Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum, Eric Balfour on this too. The cast was the best part of this series. Everyone played their part very well, but I wish some characters had gotten a little bit more screen time because everyone was electric together on screen and the character dynamics really worked.

Jenna Coleman put forth a strong effort as Olivia, giving me quite a few chills throughout my watch. She was fantastic.

Images courtesy of Prime Video

Starts off with a lot of potential.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first few episodes of this series. The premise was juicy and enticing. It seemed to fit neatly into a guilty pleasure watch and I even liked the random soundtrack (heavy on Taylor Swift) that overpowered certain scenes. Somehow that worked…

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Prime Video

Goes off the rails…

I would say that I was hooked by the end of episode two (which was the strongest episode by far). Once we got to the second half of the series, things became really chaotic and confusing. We started to spiral off into something messy and uninspiring. I was still invested enough to finish the series and there were a few redeeming moments worth sticking around for, but this was disappointing because the show started off so strong.

I also wasn’t a huge fan of the voice-over narration and it led me to believe that we were headed toward a more extreme ending than we actually got.

I think what’s so frustrating about this series is that it did enough to earn a watch, but it could have been so much better. I think it played it safe rather than throwing itself into something unpredictable, which might have worked out a lot better in my opinion.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Prime Video

I’m in about 75 percent…

Watered down guilty pleasure thrills with a cast to be excited about, but don’t expect this series to do anything that extraordinary. It was a decent watch if you enjoy revenge thrillers, however.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Wilderness in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Surviving Summer” Season 2 on Netflix: Blue Crush-Esque Series Returns

*This is a spoiler-free review for season two so feel free to read on!*

“I’m back…”

Surviving Summer season two released on Netflix on September 15th 2023. The Australian teen coming-of-age series features eight new episodes available to stream now. The show stars Sky Katz, Kai Lewins, Savannah La Rain and Lilliana Bowrey. Each episode runs for approximately 27-28 minutes.

After returning back to New York, Summer decides to go back to Australia to try out for the surfing team while re-connecting with old friends.

Here is the trailer:

Surviving Summer season one was a quick and delightful treat, transporting us to a beautiful setting with some predictable, but heartwarming moments. Does season two do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Aesthetically pleasing once again.

If you’re attempting to hold on to the summer season for just a little while longer, Surviving Summer season two will do the trick with gorgeous scenery and feel-good music. We got fewer episodes this time around, which was smart, and I like that they kept them under thirty minutes each, making this season extremely easy to binge-watch.

Images courtesy of Netflix

Favorite characters return.

In season one, Summer was trying to figure out where she belonged and surfing gave her that chance. The ending of the series was actually really well-done and I didn’t think another season was necessary.

That being said, I missed the quirkiness of Summer and I was glad she got to shine again in season two. She was a lot more sure of herself this time around and I loved that she showed off her new surfing skills with style, proving that she is worthy of the competition.

Our other supporting characters returned as well and were given some layers too, which helped flesh them out more.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Not a fan of the new potential love interest…

I get that we needed to shake things up in season two, but I wasn’t really a fan of the new “bad boy” potential love interest for Summer. He fit too neatly into a trope for me. I get that this is a coming-of-age series filled with predictable and “wrong” choices along the way, but I think more effort was needed in this department. I wanted something or someone based more in reality. The Summer I Turned Pretty does this very well and perhaps this series could learn a thing or two from that one…

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Netflix

I’m in about 75 percent…

Surviving Summer season two manages to capture the same vibe as season one, making this a charming and effortless watch.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Bottoms” in Theaters: Raunchy and Delightful!

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Welcome to our f*cking fight club!”

Bottoms released in theaters on September 1st 2023. The dark teen comedy stars Rachel Sennott, Ayo Edebiri, Havana Rose Liu, Ruby Cruz, Kaia Gerber, and Marshawn Lynch. It runs for approximately 90 minutes.

Unpopular best friends, PJ and Josie decide to start up a self defense club for women to impress their two crushes.

Here is the trailer:

Bottoms manages to find the perfect balance of unrestrained humor and utter charm, setting the new standard for teen comedies. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of MGM

Outrageously funny!

I’ve been waiting for a movie like this for a long time. I’m a huge fan of 90’s and 00’s teen comedies and many of the entries for the new generation have paled in comparison. Well, I can’t say that anymore. This movie was laugh-out-loud funny and so much fun! I loved every second of it and thought these characters dominated the screen.

I can’t wait to go back and see this again. It was such a blast!

Images courtesy of MGM

Every single character was a stand-out!

Usually there are a few scene-stealers in films like this, but I am happy to report that every single character was bloody fantastic! I almost wish this movie was longer because they all deserved so much screen time. Our two leads were great. Rachel Sennott is dominating the industry right now and she did not disappoint. I’m so impressed that she also co-wrote this film.

Marshawn Lynch stole the film for me though. He was AMAZING and I loved his interaction with the girls.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of MGM

I don’t have any…

Honestly my only con is that this film didn’t release in my local theater until the second week. Let’s work on that…

So am I in or out?

I’m in 100 percent!!!

Bottoms packs a punch with unforgettable characters, bloody violence, and over-the-top humor, making this an absolute dream come true for the teen comedy genre.
