Spoiler-Free Review of “The Devil’s Mouth” on Prime: Kathryn Newton Can’t Save this Silly Shark Movie…

“I promise it’s gonna be worth the wait…”

The Devil’s Mouth released on Prime Video on July 29th 2026. The survival horror film stars Kathryn Newton, Lana Condor, Tommi Rose, Nico Hiraga, and Gavin Casalegno. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.

A group of friends vacationing in Thailand sign up for a guided swim tour in a remote cave system, but soon find themselves trapped with a shark as they try to find a way out.

The Devil’s Mouth has a solid lead, but a flat plot and laughable effects. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

Kathryn Newton gives it her all…

She was the BEST part of this film and really did elevate it as much as she could. I was rooting for her character. She’s becoming a queen in the horror genre, but she deserved a much better movie.

There was some pretty scenery to look at as well, but the pros stop here…

Way too long with laughable effects.

I like my shark movies at around an hour and twenty-five minutes. Things dragged out way too long in this one. We didn’t need this much set-up to understand the friend dynamic. Once we got to the shark action, it was so ridiculous and cheesy. There was no real suspense here at all. In a lot of ways this film reminded me of rip-off of 47 Meters Down: Uncaged (which was a masterpiece in comparison).

This film lacked originality and the shark action was beyond disappointing.

Worst friend ever!

OMG…she was HORRIBLE! This group of friends made some of the worst decisions ever, but Max was so awful. I would have left her so many times. It’s safe to say that I was cheering for the shark the entire time. Seriously, every time she did something it infuriated me!

So am I in or out?

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Bay” on Demand: A Solid B Shark Movie

“I don’t bite…”

The Bay released on Demand on July 17th 2026. The survival horror film stars Francesca Eastwood, Dani Oliveros, and Alexander Wraith. It runs for approximately an hour and twenty-seven minutes.

Two friends vacationing in Thailand agree to go on a private shark tour, but when the boat begins to capsize, they must figure out a way to survive in shark invested waters.

The Bay has a familiar, but solid enough premise for fans of vacation gone wrong shark flicks, but does it do enough to be worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Decent first half with enough shark action.

Sure, the setup was very familiar, but I was pulled in enough for the first half of this movie. There were plenty of suspenseful moments and I even found myself rooting for certain characters. We got enough sharks showing up in this and even a few twists and turns I didn’t expect.

A strong enough lead.

Francesca Eastwood did a good job here with what she was given. Lately I have been finding the characters in shark films insufferable, but I thought that she was believable and I genuinely cared about what happened to her and the people on the boat (well most of them anyway).

Goes off the rails in the second half.

It’s no secret that I’m addicted to B shark movies like this. I’ve seen movies like this over and over again and yet I still find myself watching every single one that is released. While I enjoyed the first half of this movie, things did get a little bit silly as the premise continued. We got some extra over-acting featuring some insane yelling that was way over the top and a twist at the end that felt like they were trying to stretch things as close to 90 minutes as possible.

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

THE BAY is your standard vacation gone wrong film with some suspenseful moments sprinkled in, making this an entertaining enough weekend watch if you enjoy shark movies.

I’d manage your expectations on this one, but as long as you just go with it, you’ll have enough fun if you like B shark movies.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Evil Dead Burn” in Theaters: Blood-Soaked and Stomach-Turning

“The Book of the Dead is not just a myth…”

Evil Dead Burn released in theaters on July 10th 2026. The latest entry to the Evil Dead franchise stars Souheila Yacoub, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Erroll Shand, George Pullar, and Tandi Wright. It runs for approximately an hour and fifty minutes.

After the sudden death of her husband, Alice goes to stay with his family after the funeral, but deadites begin to target his family one by one, threatening to destroy them all.

Evil Dead Burn is filled to the brim with stomach-turning gore and some horrific moments built in. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

A strong protagonist to root for!

The Evil Dead franchise has given us some phenomenal protagonists over the years and this film is no exception. I loved the character of Alice and thought she was the heart and soul of this movie. I was rooting for her the entire time. She was bad-ass, brutal, and well-layered.

I’d love to see the actress in more.

Lots of gore…if that’s your thing.

This may have been the bloodiest film yet in the franchise. They certainly pushed the envelope in the gore department. If that’s your jam, then you will absolutely love this.

I also really enjoyed the Ready or Not parallels with the in-laws from hell angle. This film definitely channeled that vibe on more than one occasion.

There will be no spoilers in this review, but there are two end credit scenes. The second one is bloody FANTASTIC and probably my favorite part of the film. Make sure you stick around!

Triggering scenes.

I normally like to keep spoilers out of my reviews, but all I will say is please stop brutally killing animals in movies. I can’t stand it. If you are an animal lover like me, I feel like I need to warn you. There is a lot of set-up and you’ll be able to sense when the horrible scene is coming so I suggest you just turn away like I did.

I also wasn’t a huge fan of the dreary lighting in this film and the uninspiring characters (other than Alice).

There was a lot I enjoyed about this film, but I also felt like we lost the chilling magic of its predecessors somewhere and settled for over-the-top gore instead. This isn’t always the answer…

So am I in or out?

Evil Dead Burn features a bad-ass female lead worthy of the crown.

While probably my least favorite film of the franchise, there were plenty of shocking and cringe-worthy moments here. I think I’m more excited for the next entry, however…
