Spoiler-Free Review of “Fakes” on Netflix: A Blast to Binge-Watch

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“All good things come to an end…”

Fakes premiered on September 2nd 2022 on Netflix. There are ten episodes in total that are all available to stream now. The Canadian comedy series stars Jennifer Tong, Emilija Baranac, and Richard Harmon. Each episode is approximately 22-26 minutes.

Best friends, Zoe and Becca, start their own fake ID empire, but things get complicated when their life of crime stumbles out of control.

Here is the trailer:

Fakes is very much Booksmart meets Teenage Bounty Hunters with a flair of its own, but does it do enough to become your next worthy binge-watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

A fun concept with super short episodes.

I personally really liked the premise for this one. It really gave off some Teenage Bounty Hunter vibes in a good way. I had so much fun watching this and it was very easy to binge-watch with the shorter episodes.

The soundtrack was awesome and the main characters were likable for the most part. I also liked how the series did episodes from different perspectives to give this show a unique voice of its own.

Richard Harmon is the best part of the show!

I’m already a huge fan of his from The 100, but he really gave this series a much needed edge. He is hilarious, but he also had some deeper layers, which I appreciated. He is a scene stealer for sure!

The Cons:

Starts off a little unsure of itself.

The first two episodes were a little iffy for me. I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep tuning in, but I was hooked by the time I got to episode three. The series really found its voice then and I also started to connect to all of the characters a lot more at this point. Not all of the humor landed, but there were enough entertaining moments to enjoy.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

This was a super fun watch with great characters and a really cool concept that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you’re looking for something light and fun to shake things up, you’re in the right place.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Coroner” on The CW: Eerie Potential

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

Serinda Swan is gracing the small screen once again and this may be her best role yet. Someone has to speak up for the dead and my vote goes to her!

Coroner is a Canadian series that originally released back in January 2019 on CBC. The show has just been picked up for a third season and The CW is airing the first season as part of its Summer lineup, featuring eight episodes. The episodes will air weekly and are approximately 50 minutes in length. The show stars Serinda Swan, Roger Cross, and Ehren Kassam.

Coroner introduces us to Jenny Cooper, a newly appointed Coroner and recent widow. After tragically losing her husband, she focuses her attention on her new job, investigating bizarre deaths in Toronto.

While I have seen similar shows before, there is something about this one that pulls you in right away, giving us the potential for a heartwarming, real show filled with some welcomed mystery.

But, does Coroner do enough to hold our attention for weekly episodes? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Serinda Swan is breathtaking.

I remember first seeing her on the series, Breakout Kings and I thought that she was completely mesmerizing on screen. There is just something really magnetic about her performance. She pulls you in effortlessly and you believe her heartbreak and are right there along with her to feel every emotion, which truly makes you connect with the show from the initial episode.

A welcomed mystery.

It looks like we will get weekly episodes investigating new and mysterious deaths. Other shows like Evil have gone down a similar path and have done pretty well. I’m hoping that the episodes don’t become stale after a while, but so far I am intrigued by the reveals and clues we are getting.

The Cons:

Wavering identity.

After watching the pilot episode, I’m not entirely sure what this show wants to be. Is it about the supernatural/mysterious deaths? Is it about a widow coping? Is it about finding new connections in life? I’m not really sure and we get a lot thrown our way in the opening episode.

That being said, there is quite a bit of potential here and I’m hoping that the show can find its footing by the third episode to keep me invested.

Slower pace at times.

Here and there the pace slows down quite a bit, but there are enough things going on to reel you back in. I just hope that we can push past all of the setup and move toward a layered plot because Serinda Swan deserves this.

I’m in about 75 percent. This series has the potential to be really addicting, but it needs to settle on its identity and pick up the pace to maintain interest. I like what I see so far, but I think that this show can be so much more and I’m looking forward to watching the next episodes.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Coroner in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
