Spoiler-Free Review of “The Housemaid” in Theaters: A Soapy & Campy Thriller Worth your Time!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“Would you like to see what you’re getting yourself into?”

The Housemaid premiered in theaters on December 19th 2025. The mystery thriller film (based on the novel of the same name) stars Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar. It runs for approximately two hours and ten minutes.

Millie has a troubled past and is looking for a fresh start by interviewing for a live-in housemaid position in an extravagant home, but she soon discovers that her new bosses may be hiding deadly secrets that put her in danger.

Here is the trailer:

The Housemaid is a guilty pleasure thriller with plenty of juicy and shocking moments built in. Is it worthy of your next watchLet’s find out…

The Pros:

Sweeney and Seyfried are a dream duo!

I thought both actresses did a really great job here. Amanda Seyfried is such an exceptional actress and she really went all out here. Sweeney kept up with her as well and I loved the back-and-forth between them.

Brandon Sklenar is popping up quite a bit now in movies (It Ends With Us, Drop) and I hope to see him in more as well. His wardrobe was fantastic…among other things.

This movie was very pretty to look at from the gorgeous cast to the beautiful Long Island home they were living in. I love pleasing aesthetics like this that tend to hide something dangerous and sinister beneath them.

Entertaining reveals.

I wouldn’t say that they were that shocking. I sort of saw the main twist coming a mile away. That being said, it was still so much fun to watch unfold on screen. I had a packed audience with me in the theater and they were cheering along during certain parts, which made this a blast to watch. In a lot of ways, this felt like an elevated Lifetime movie…but that’s my favorite kind of guilty pleasure thriller so I’m not complaining here.

The ending was satisfying as well.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Lionsgate

A little too long…

I was never bored, but I think things could have been wrapped up a little bit sooner. I like my movies to hover around 90 minutes or so. There were a few parts in the middle that were drawn out, but luckily things turned around for the explosive conclusion.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!!

THE HOUSEMAID is sultry, satisfying, and so much fun to indulge in.

Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried go all out here in the best possible way!

Loved it!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Sirens” on Netflix: A Guilty Pleasure Beach Thriller

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“It REALLY seems like a cult…”

Sirens premiered on Netflix on May 22nd 2025 with all five episodes available to stream now. The limited dark comedy thriller series stars Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, Kevin Bacon, Glenn Howerton, and Felix Solis. Each episode is approximately 55-58 minutes.

Devon is concerned about her sister’s odd relationship with her boss, tracking her down at a lavish mansion on an island to get some answers.

Here is the trailer:

Sirens is a soapy and odd thriller with nods at Desperate Housewives, Revenge, and Big Little Lies, but does it do enough to be worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Meghann Fahy is one to watch!

I have been becoming a big fan of her lately. I’ve seen her pop up on a few shows before and I recently just watched her in DROP, which I absolutely loved.

This was an all-star cast and Meghann Fahy really stole the show with her convincing performance. Her character was fantastic and I loved her dry, dark humor. It really helped elevate this show for me in a lot of ways.

Julianne Moore was terrific as well.

Images courtesy of Netflix

Gorgeous setting.

If you’re looking for a soapy show with beach vibes for the summer, you’re in luck. This one definitely checked off all of those boxes for me. The mansion was beautiful. I loved the use of color and light here. Everything was just breathtakingly beautiful, offsetting some disturbing things going on within the property.

I love soapy guilty pleasure thrillers and this one reminded me of a few other shows that I have really enjoyed with some unexpected twists along the way.

I also loved that this was only five episodes. It made it a breeze to binge-watch over the weekend.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Weird and bonkers plot…

Don’t get me wrong…I was hooked all the same, but this show went off into several different directions. It was really strange at times, but somehow I was still there for it. Everything just felt very jam-packed and chaotic during certain key moments.

The ending threw me for a loop. It was certainly unexpected, but it also left me with some mixed feelings at the end.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

SIRENS is an addicting and unique watch. There were some strange things going on here, but I was here for it!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Borderline” on Demand: Deranged Rom-Com Thriller Delivers

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“Tonight is the night…”

Borderline released on Demand on March 14th 2025. The comedy thriller film stars Samara Weaving, Ray Nicholson, Alba Baptista, Jimmie Fails, and Eric Dane. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty-four minutes.

A sociopath obsessed with a pop star in the 1990’s escapes a mental institution to track her down so they can live happily ever after together.

Here is the trailer:

Borderline is an entertaining thriller that holds your attention until the very end. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Magnet Releasing

A twisted thriller with plenty of outrageous moments.

When I first saw the trailer for this film, I knew it was right up my alley. I love guilty pleasure thrillers about obsession and I appreciated that this film added in some elements of comedy as well. The blending of genres here was terrific, making this a fun popcorn watch perfect for the weekend.

Images courtesy of Magnet Releasing

Brilliant performances.

I’m pretty much seated for any film starring Samara Weaving (especially with the possibility of her getting covered in blood) and she did a good job here. I did want a little bit more from her character, but I wasn’t disappointed. It was also fun seeing Grey’s Anatomy and Charmed star Eric Dane in this.

But, I have to give it up to Ray Nicholson (Panic) and Alba Batista (Warrior Nun). They were bloody fantastic and stole the show for me. They really went all out with their performances and elevated this film in lot of ways.

The music in this one was fantastic as well.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Magnet Releasing

Pacing issues.

The second half of this film was a lot stronger than the first half. Once we got to the core plot, I was much more invested. There was some fluff to deal with in the beginning and I thought we spent too much time jumping around to other plot-lines, which took away from the intensity going on at the house.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Magnet Releasing

I’m in!!!

Borderline is twisted, outrageous, and a lot of fun.

This was my kind of thriller and a solid watch overall.

More rom-com thrillers, please!

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Couple Next Door” on Starz: A Guilty Pleasure Thriller with Potential!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“What do you think of the new neighbors?”

The Couple Next Door is a British drama-thriller series that premiered in the US on January 17th 2025. There will be six episodes in total that will release weekly on Starz. The series (based on the book of the same name) stars Eleanor Tomlinson, Alfred Enoch, Jessica De Gouw, and Sam Heughan. Each episode is approximately 50-52 minutes.

A young couple becomes friends with their neighbors after trying to cope with a tragic event, but their friendship takes an unexpected and sinister turn.

Here is the trailer:

The Couple Next Door is a soapy thriller with nods at Desperate Housewives and The Affair, but does it have enough dangerous and juicy secrets to keep us coming back for more? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Starz

Gorgeous cast.

Everything about this show is aesthetically pleasing so far. The suburban setting is picturesque and every member of the cast is breathtakingly beautiful. I think this works well because they are all clearly hiding something beneath the seemingly perfect surface. I’m curious to see it all unfold. I did read the book, but it’s been some time so I feel like I’m going into this one with fresh eyes.

Images courtesy of Starz

Enough secretive and seductive moments to keep you coming back for more.

The premiere episode had enough of a hook for me. Personally, I wish they would release all of the episodes at once because I think this would be fun to binge-watch, but I’m intrigued enough to stick around. There’s already some dangerous secrets lurking between our characters and that opening suggests it’s going to continue to get even more chaotic and destructive. I can’t wait!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Starz

Needs to dig a little deeper.

Television series based on books always seem to struggle with this. I thought the premiere episode jam-packed in a lot, but it also glossed over certain moments that needed to be fleshed out more so that the audience could truly understand what’s at stake here.

There were also some ridiculously silly moments of intense staring going on. Honestly, I laughed out loud at the end of the first episode, but this is a guilty pleasure soapy series and I understand that.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Starz

I’m in!!!

The Couple Next Door is my latest addiction!

It has everything I could possibly want in a guilty pleasure thriller and more. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Subservience” on Demand: Megan Fox Stars as a Robot in this Soapy Version of M3GAN

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“How can we simplify your life?”

Subservience released on Demand on September 13th 2024. The sci-fi thriller film stars Megan Fox, Michele Morrone, and Madeline Zima. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.

After his wife falls ill, a struggling father purchases an AI Android named Alice to help out around the house, but when Alice begins to become self-aware, she decides that she wants to have her primary user all to herself, risking everyone’s life around him.

Here is the trailer:

Subservience takes a page out of M3GAN’S script and gives us a predictable, but guilty pleasure worthy thriller to indulge in. Is it your next weekend watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of XYZ Films

Megan Fox easily steps into this role with flair.

I’ve been really enjoying Megan Fox thrillers lately. Till Death quickly became one of my new favorites and she puts forth a valiant effort here in Subservience. While this thriller had a very different feel to it and leaned more toward the sci-fi genre, it still had enough outrageous soapy thrills to hold my attention. It’s one of those trashy thrillers you can enjoy on a rainy weekend with a glass of wine. If that’s your jam, then you’ll enjoy this one and Megan Fox is absolutely flawless in this role.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of XYZ Films

Nothing new here.

Some of the scenes seemed like they were ripped right out of the M3GAN movie. This film followed a different story-line, but it still took quite a lot from other films. The outcome was also really predictable and the ending felt slightly anticlimactic. I also preferred the scenes that stayed within the family drama. I didn’t need this film to branch out into a potential war against AI Androids. At times, it felt like it was doing a little too much, but luckily it circled back to its core plot.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of XYZ Films

I’m in!!!

Subservience checks off every box that a soapy and guilty pleasure thriller should. It didn’t do anything new here, but it had solid pacing and enough thrills to hold my attention until the end.

As long as you manage your expectations, you’ll enjoy this one.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Subservience in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Welcome to Eden” Season 2 on Netflix: The Twists and Betrayals are far from over!

**This is a spoiler-free review for season 2 so feel free to read on!**

“Paradise is on hold…”

Welcome to Eden (Bienvenidos a Edén) season 2 premiered on Netflix on April 21st 2023 with eight episodes available to stream now. The Spanish thriller series stars Amaia Aberasturi, Belinda, Amaia Salamanca, and Sergio Momo. Each episode runs for approximately 42-52 minutes.

Zoa and her friends continue to fight for survival on the island, but things get more complicated when some new arrivals shake things up.

Here is the trailer:

Welcome to Eden season 2 picks up right where it left off with soapy thrills, insane twists, and a crazy cult that may have you rethinking your next vacation. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

The intense twists continue!

Season 1 did a fantastic job with this and I wasn’t sure if season 2 would be able to keep up, but it really goes all out and throws in some edge-of-your-seat moments that had me holding my breath!

This show is not afraid to kill off characters and it’s far from predictable, giving the audience plenty of guilty pleasure thrills to keep them binge-watching until the very end.

Images courtesy of Netflix

Couples to root for.

The character dynamics and relationships on this show really keep you invested. You care about what happens to these characters and there are some ships that will really make you swoon and then some.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

A LOT to keep track of!

I highly recommend re-watching the first season prior to watching this or at least watching the recaps. I was a little lost in the first episode, but luckily everything started to come back to me by the time we got to episode 2.

That being said, there are a lot of sub-plots and tons of characters to keep track of. While I have come to expect the soapy and steamy fluff in this series, I thought they went a little overboard here at times. The episodes could have been a little bit shorter to keep the pacing going.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Netflix

I’m in!!!!

While not as strong as season 1, season 2 doesn’t hold back and gives us plenty of shocking and steamy moments to enjoy. Fingers crossed that we get a season 3!

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Watchful Eye” on Freeform: Guilty Pleasure Gold

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I know what it’s like…”

The Watchful Eye premiered on Freeform on January 30th 2023 with the first two episodes. There will be eight episodes in total that will air weekly and each episode is available to stream on Hulu the next day. The mystery thriller series stars Mariel Molino, Amy Acker, Warren Christie, and Kelly Bishop. Each episode is approximately 45-48 minutes.

A young woman with a secretive past accepts a job as a live-in nanny for a wealthy family in Manhattan, where everyone has something to hide.

Here is the trailer:

The Watchful Eye is a delightful mix of Jane Eyre and Gossip Girl with fantastic twists that will have you hooked from the start. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Freeform

Amazing twists!

This series did not waste any time at all! It hooked me immediately and already presented us with some insane twists that may seem completely bonkers, but they’re working. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I was thrown for a loop in the best way possible and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

It’s safe to say that this series is already so addicting, falling nicely into the guilty pleasure thriller genre. Love it!

Images courtesy of Freeform

Killer concept.

The series is not that original. It’s basically Only Murders in the Building without the quirky humor, but I love the upper east side edge (similar to Gossip Girl) and Amy Acker is already stealing the show as the Queen Bee of the apartment. I’m so happy to see her in this!

I think our lead is also very likable and she definitely has a few tricks up her sleeve as well so I will not be underestimating her.

I love the setting and the focus on the residents as potential suspects. I’m looking forward to figuring this one out each week.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Freeform

Over-stuffs the premiere with too many characters…

I liked a lot of the characters, but I had a little trouble keeping up. I just think that way too many people were introduced in the premiere and it was already jam-packed enough as it is.

There is also some typical soapy melodrama to deal with, but I’ve come to expect that now with these types of shows.

So am I in or out?

Spoiler-Free Review of “Into the Deep” on Demand: Modern day “Dead Calm” has some Potential

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“Welcome aboard…”

Into the Deep released on demand on August 26th 2022. The erotic thriller film stars Ella Rae-Smith, Matthew Daddario, and Jessica Alexander. It runs for approximately 90 minutes.

Jess meets a handsome stranger and agrees to spend the evening on his boat, but things take a dangerous turn when she wakes up with him in the middle of the ocean as a stranger comes onboard.

Here is the trailer:

Into the Deep possesses the formula to become a solid guilty pleasure thriller, but does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Sky Cinema

Addicting premise.

This movie had a fantastic setting and a chilling and addicting premise. I was all in and ready to see what horrific things would unfold. There’s just something so frightening about being trapped in the middle of nowhere. Dead Calm nailed that feeling many years ago and I really liked that this film channeled that vibe.

A mystery that kept me guessing.

I honestly couldn’t figure out who was lying and I thought this worked to the film’s advantage. There was evidence against all parties involved, but the audience really had to make their own guesses, which made this more of an involved watch. I was pulled in the entire time and I had to know what would happen next.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Sky Cinema

Needed some more suspense built in…

Even though I really enjoyed the mystery, I wanted some more intense moments built in to really keep me on the edge of my seat. We had some sprinkles of it toward the end, but I kind of wanted to feel my heart beat a little more during this one.

I also thought that Jess made some really poor decisions and I wanted the trauma involving her past to be explored just a little bit more.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Sky Cinema

I’m in about 75 percent…

If you’re looking for a weekend guilty pleasure thriller, this one checks off plenty of boxes. I really liked the mystery, but I just wanted a few more outrageous and thrilling moments to really seal the deal.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Into the Deep in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Echoes” on Netflix: A Trashy Thriller with A LOT Going On

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“My sister is missing…”

Echoes released on Netflix on August 19th 2022. All seven episodes are available to stream now. The thriller drama series stars Michelle Monaghan, Matt Bomer, Daniel Sunjata, and Jonathan Tucker. Each episode runs for approximately 42-47 minutes.

Gina travels back to her home town to track down her missing identical twin sister, as deadly and dangerous secrets are revealed along the way that could shatter her life completely.

Here is the trailer:

Echoes has a decent Gone Girl-esque set-up and a well known cast, but its messy plot and endless twists over-complicate things. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

A strong start.

I was actually really pulled into this story initially. There was a major twist at the end of the first episode and I thought the mystery was decent enough to keep me coming back for more. Michelle Monaghan put forth a valiant effort with her performance and I thought the actual premise was really interesting with lots of guilty-pleasure potential.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Annoying voice-over narration…

Gina spends a lot of time “talking” to her identical twin sister over their video diary to find out where she is and what’s going on, but I found this really distracting and annoying. I’m not a fan of voice-over narration, but they really overdid it with this one.

Images courtesy of Netflix

A really messy plot.

I’m frustrated with this show because it started off really good and I thought I had an exciting binge-watch to enjoy. As the episodes continued, things started going off the rails completely. The plot was super messy and trashy. The performances got weaker and the twists were overdone, which ruined the initial shock value from the first episode for me.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Netflix

Unfortunately I’m out on this one…

If you’re looking for a Lifetime-esque trashy thriller, there is enough going on to make your head spin (if that’s your kind of thing). I was intrigued at first, but I started to lose interest as the episodes continued unfortunately. I think this might have worked better as a Saturday movie of the week instead.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Welcome to Eden” on Netflix: The Price of Exclusivity

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“I can help you be happy…”

Welcome to Eden (Bienvenidos a Edén) premiered on Netflix on May 6th 2022 with eight episodes available to stream now. The Spanish thriller series stars Amaia Aberasturi, Belinda, Amaia Salamanca, and Sergio Momo. Each episode runs for approximately 40-45 minutes.

After being invited to an exclusive party on a remote island, Zoa and four others are left behind, as they soon start to realize that this may have been intentional.

Here is the trailer:

Welcome to Eden has a killer premise and an attractive cast, but does it do enough to find its own identity separate from shows like The WildsLet’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Guilty pleasure worthy.

This series was a lot of fun. I loved the party in the beginning and even though it’s a plot I’ve seen before, there was still enough happening to draw me in. The next time you get some mystery invite to a remote island, you may want to think twice…

Twists and reveals worth sticking around for.

I didn’t start to really connect to this series until about episode four. Once I got there, I was completely hooked and I had to know what happened next. It was fun figuring out who I could trust and who was a potential villain.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

The characters needed more development…

This series reminded me a lot of The Wilds and Nine Perfect Strangers except it was missing some real character development. We got some sprinkles of it here and there, but a lot of it felt really superficial.

I also thought that the thrilling moments needed to be coated with more edge. I wanted this series to be a little bit more brutal and dangerous than it was. It was still an enjoyable guilty pleasure watch, but it had the potential to be a lot more.

So am I in or out?

This series was so addicting and a lot of fun. It may have been a bit outrageous and silly at times, but if you enjoy guilty pleasure thrillers, then you’re in the right place!
