Spoiler-Free Review of “Into the Deep” (2025) on Demand: Richard Dreyfuss Stars in Another Shark Movie, but it’s no Jaws…

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“You’re not in your kingdom…”

Into the Deep (2025) released on Demand on January 24th 2025. The action thriller film stars Scout-Taylor Compton, Callum McGowan, Jon Seda, Stuart Townsend, and Richard Dreyfuss. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty minutes.

A group of criminals hold a boat of tourists hostage and force them to dive in shark-infested waters to retrieve their drugs.

Here is the trailer:

Into the Deep has a premise I’ve seen before with enough potential, but does it have enough shark action to be worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

A few standout performers!

I’m not sure why Richard Dreyfuss decided to appear in this movie, but his presence elevated it somewhat. It was great to see him playing another marine biologist, which gave us a touch of Jaws nostalgia.

Scout-Taylor Compton did a solid job with what she was given, but the rest of the characters in this were pretty forgettable.

The Cons:

Weak shark action.

I love shark films even if they’re terrible and cheesy, but this one had some awful CGI. None of the shark scenes were suspenseful. They were completely ridiculous and silly, which was beyond disappointing.

Cringe-worthy dialogue.

The plot in this one was OK. I’ve seen films like this before, but I would have been fine with the overdone plot if we had gotten some more bite here. It was really difficult to listen to some of that dialogue and the over-acting didn’t help matters.

So am I in or out?

Unfortunately I’m out on this one…

Into the Deep fails to make a splash despite having a film legend starring in it.

I was hoping for some solid shark action, but this film did not measure up in that department.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Under Paris” on Netflix: My Kind of Shark Flick!

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“I know where it is…”

Under Paris (Sous la Seine) released on Netflix on June 5th 2024. The French horror thriller film stars Bérénice Bejo, Nassim Lyes, Léa Léviant, and Anne Marivin. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-three minutes.

When a shark finds its way into the Seine, a scientist must face her tragic past in order to stop it from feasting on swimmers in the upcoming triathlon.

Here is the trailer:

Under Paris steps up to the plate as a decent shark flick, channeling Jaws, Deep Blue Sea, and The Meg, while having some bloody, outrageous fun. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Plenty of shark screen time!

I’ve seen way too many shark films lately where the shark barely shows up. Let’s be honest…we’re watching these films for the sharks so we need them to actually appear from time to time…right? Well, have no fear…there is plenty of shark action in this one. I LOVED IT!

Sure, some of it was so absurd and ridiculous, but I didn’t care. This is what I came to see and it delivered in that aspect.

That scene in the Catacombs was BLOODY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

A lot of fun!

OK, I loved the nods at Jaws and Deep Blue Sea here. This film understood the assignment and just went with it. It wasn’t a rip-off of either of those movies. It had its own story to tell and its own identity, but it also showed some respect to its predecessors, which I appreciated as a shark film fan.

As long as you don’t take things too seriously or try to make sense of stuff, you will enjoy this one. It’s silly and bonkers, but it’s also awesome to watch unfold. I was never bored at all.

The Cons:

A little longer than it needed to be…

I think we could have accomplished the same result in just under 90 minutes. This movie dragged a little bit in certain spots, but this wasn’t a major con. The CGI is also really bad at times, but I was having so much fun that I didn’t really care about this…

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

Under Paris is a blast to watch with plenty of bite. Just go with it and you’ll be thoroughly entertained.

Finally, a shark movie that delivers!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Night Swim” in Theaters: Skip the Dip…

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I always wanted a pool…”

Night Swim (based off the 2014 short of the same name) released in theaters on January 5th 2024. The supernatural horror film stars Wyatt Russell, Kerry Condon, Amélie Hoeferle, and Jodi Long. It runs for approximately an hour and thirty-eight minutes.

A former baseball player moves into a new home and is hoping that their pool can give him the therapy he needs, but a malevolent force is unleashed instead, terrorizing those closest to him.

Here is the trailer:

Night Swim attempts to channel films like Jaws and The Amityville Horror, but goes off the deep end with its reveals. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Eerie premise with a decent enough opening.

The film started off with some potential. I liked the opening and thought we were on our way to experiencing a creepy supernatural flick, but sometimes a film can’t find its way past an initial concept.

That being said, there were some more disturbing moments sprinkled in throughout the film, but nothing to get too excited about…

The Cons:

Takes itself too seriously.

I think this was my biggest issue with this film. It really could have benefited from some campy fun. Instead, it was just laughable and silly in all the wrong ways. The reveal was not worth sticking around for and some of the dialogue was beyond atrocious. The actors were decent enough, but they were stuck in uninspiring roles so it made it difficult for me to really invest in any of them.

This film also relied too heavily on desperate jump scares, which didn’t add anything to the film. Instead, it just showed off how extremely shallow it was.

So am I in or out?

Unfortunately I’m out on this one…

Night Swim gets off to a creepy start, but it never quite finds its way past the concept, making this an uninspiring watch overall.

I was expecting a lot more from my first horror watch of the year.

I hope you enjoyed the review and please feel free to share your thoughts on Night Swim in the comments section!

The Pros:

Visually stunning with an amazing soundtrack!

This film really transported me back in time and the musical soundtrack complimented it so well. I also loved the camera effects and the use of lighting. There were so many shocking and horrifying moments during this film and everything was elevated that much more by the visual and sound effects.

This film took my breath away in the best way possible!

Creepy AF!

This movie was so creepy and disturbing. There was plenty of gore, but the horror went well beyond that. My skin was crawling during certain scenes and I was genuinely freaked out by what I was watching. This film did a great job of embracing the slasher genre while pushing the envelope that much more with its uncensored content.

So much fun!

There’s already such a close and wonderful relationship between sex and horror films and X took it one step further. I loved the film within a film and the actors did a fantastic job with every aspect of their portrayal. Don’t think about things too much. Just enjoy the film and you’ll love it that much more!

The Cons:

Takes a little while to get going…

I wouldn’t say that this was a major con, but the pacing was a little sluggish in the beginning. Once things took a turn for the disturbing, I was all in but it did take a little while to get there.

So am I in or out?

I’m in 100 percent!!!!!

Creepy AF and so much fun! I was so excited to watch this movie and I can happily say that it lived up to the hype and then some! If you enjoy slasher and horror films, you will feel right at home with this one. Enjoy it!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on X in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
