Spoiler-Free Review of “Infinity Pool” in Theaters: Trippy and Bizarre

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I actually came here looking for inspiration…”

Infinity Pool premiered in theaters on January 27th 2023. The sci-fi horror film stars Mia Goth, Alexander Skarsgård, and Cleopatra Coleman.

A struggling writer and his wife meet a fan of his work, as she convinces them to go on a day-trip outside of the resort gates, leading to a horrifying crime that has unspeakable consequences.

Here is the trailer:

Infinity Pool is unsettling and mind bending with chilling performances and shocking moments sprinkled in. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Mia Goth can do no wrong…

After her incredible performances in both X and Pearl last year, she shows us once again why she is a force to be reckoned with in the horror genre. I thought that Alexander Skarsgård was really exceptional as well in this, but Mia Goth was a scene-stealer and then some. She was the BEST part of this film and I was truly impressed by her range. Perfection!

Aesthetically pleasing…

The setting was gorgeous and I loved the use of color in the beginning of the film. It felt like we were being transported into a watercolor painting and that ending frame was absolutely breathtaking.

A dark concept left up to interpretation…

I was personally really intrigued by the real meaning of this film. It explored interesting aspects of morality and what makes someone tick with an ambiguous ending. I think that the creative minds behind this film really put forth a valiant effort to allow this idea to manifest on screen, allowing the audience to contemplate things on their own as well, which I appreciated.

The Cons:

Missing layers…

Even though I really liked the concept of this film, it was lacking in story. We knew why our main character was at the resort, but I personally felt like this needed to be explored a little bit more.

The film also went off on several trippy tangents filled with sex galore and oozing gore that is not for the squeamish. I personally didn’t mind this (although some of it seemed slightly unnecessary), but the flashing light sequences made me dizzy and could have been toned down a little bit…

So am I in or out?

I’m in about 75 percent…

By the time I finished this film, I was unsure if I had actually liked it or not. It does create an interesting dialogue and I think it has a lot going for it, but I needed just a touch more.

Either way, I was pleased by the performances and if you’re looking for a film that really pushes the envelope, you’re in the right place.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Infinity Pool in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

DON’T TAKE THE JOB…

It was only supposed to be temporary…but when Olivia Crewe accepts a new position that seems too good to be true, she soon discovers that twelve other girls previously had the same job as her. Only none of them lasted for more than thirty days. No notice. Nothing…right before they mysteriously disappeared without a trace.

Scream (2022)

Scream (1996) happens to be my favorite movie of all time so I had mixed expectations going into the new film. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It did a fantastic job of providing fans of the original with plenty of nostalgia while still keeping things fresh and new with lots of bloody kills and shocking reveals along the way.

6

Sex, drugs, and gore galore. This film pushed so many boundaries in the best possible way. It was bloody fantastic to watch on screen with characters to root for and some seriously twisted moments.

Deliciously twisted and so entertaining! Anya Taylor-Joy does it again! Last Night in Soho was my number one pick of 2021 and I have to crown this queen again in The Menu. This film had the perfect blend of horror comedy and intense thrills. I am beyond excited that it will be releasing on HBO Max in January so I can watch it again and again!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Pearl” in Theaters: Horror Fans have a new Franchise to Obsess Over!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“One day the whole world’s gonna know my name…”

Pearl released in theaters on September 16th 2022. The horror film is a prequel to X and it stars Mia Goth, David Corenswet, and Emma Jenkins-Puro. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.

This origin film allows us to see how Pearl became the disturbing villain we witnessed in the brutal and bloody slasher film, as we see how life used to be on the farm.

Here is the trailer:

Pearl is mesmerizing and disturbing, creating more layers for the X franchise, while allowing Mia Goth to truly shine on the screen in a bloody fantastic way. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Mia Goth is incredible!

I loved her in X, but wow did she really shine in this film. She was so mesmerizing and disturbing. I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. Even though there are other characters in the film, the main focus is Pearl and I thought she captivated the audience’s attention with every single word and facial expression…including that one during the credits that will probably still haunt me for a while…

Expands the X universe in an effective way.

X has been my favorite film of the year so far and I thought that this origin story for Pearl made me like it even more. It’s basically another chapter, revealing more pieces of the puzzle while allowing an already disturbing villain to transcend into something even more unique and terrifying in such a brilliant way. It was amazing seeing the familiar setting again and even though this film had a much different tone, it still channeled that creepy vibe I loved so much in X without ever skipping a beat.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of A24

Takes a little while to get going…

I didn’t really mind the first half, but I thought the second half of the film was a lot stronger and the pacing was better. Maybe it was because I knew what would eventually happen with Pearl, but some of the opening scenes took a little while to get going, but everything was still done in a compelling way.

So am I in or out?

I’m in 100 percent!!!!!

A worthy addition to the X franchise where Mia Goth gets the chance to truly shine.

I loved this film!

P.S. Make sure you stick around after the credits!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Pearl in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “X” in Theaters: Sex and Gore Galore with a Killer Soundtrack

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“You know what they say about too much of a good thing…”

X  released in theaters on March 18th 2022. The slasher horror film stars Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, Kid Cudi, Martin Henderson, and Owen Campbell. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.

Set in 1979, a group of actors head out to rural Texas to shoot an adult film. However, when their hosts catch them in the act, they find themselves fighting for their lives.

Here is the trailer:

pays homage to classic films like Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Jaws while creating something wild, entertaining, and delightfully disturbing on its own. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of A24

Visually stunning with an amazing soundtrack!

This film really transported me back in time and the musical soundtrack complimented it so well. I also loved the camera effects and the use of lighting. There were so many shocking and horrifying moments during this film and everything was elevated that much more by the visual and sound effects.

This film took my breath away in the best way possible!

Creepy AF!

This movie was so creepy and disturbing. There was plenty of gore, but the horror went well beyond that. My skin was crawling during certain scenes and I was genuinely freaked out by what I was watching. This film did a great job of embracing the slasher genre while pushing the envelope that much more with its uncensored content.

So much fun!

There’s already such a close and wonderful relationship between sex and horror films and X took it one step further. I loved the film within a film and the actors did a fantastic job with every aspect of their portrayal. Don’t think about things too much. Just enjoy the film and you’ll love it that much more!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of A24

Takes a little while to get going…

I wouldn’t say that this was a major con, but the pacing was a little sluggish in the beginning. Once things took a turn for the disturbing, I was all in but it did take a little while to get there.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of A24

I’m in 100 percent!!!!!

Creepy AF and so much fun! I was so excited to watch this movie and I can happily say that it lived up to the hype and then some! If you enjoy slasher and horror films, you will feel right at home with this one. Enjoy it!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on X in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
