Perfect blend of genres!

This film somehow managed to brilliantly mashup two of my favorite genres: rom-coms and “good for her” revenge. I didn’t think that something like this could ever work and I was delighted at the outcome. Lisa Frankenstein also dipped into this style and I think these two films would make a fantastic double feature!

I experienced so many emotions while watching this film. I haven’t enjoyed a movie like this in a really long time. I was laughing and crying throughout all of the key moments, making this such a compelling and heartfelt cinematic experience for me personally. It’s rare to find a movie that can truly make you feel like this and Your Monster accomplished that effortlessly.

Melissa Barrera is enchanting!

I never would have thought my top two films of the year would both star Melissa Barrera, but she was INCREDIBLE in this! I fell in love with her even more and it was great to see a different role for her. I really related to her character on so many levels and I thought the chemistry in this movie was perfect.

Your Monster had a lot to say without hitting the audience over the head with its messages (which I’ve seen too much of this year). It just told us a beautiful (yet dark and edgy) story while exploring so many emotions that we all go through, making this such a fantastic watch. I seriously have goosebumps from this one. It was absolute perfection for me!

The Cons:

I don’t have any…

Maybe it needed a touch more gore during key parts, but I honestly didn’t need it. I understood what this movie was trying to accomplish and I thought it was executed brilliantly.

So am I in or out?

DON’T TAKE THE JOB…

It was only supposed to be temporary…but when Olivia Crewe accepts a new position that seems too good to be true, she soon discovers that twelve other girls previously had the same job as her. Only none of them lasted for more than thirty days. No notice. Nothing…right before they mysteriously disappeared without a trace.

“I hate ballet…”

“Dream f*ckin team!”

Seriously, this was one of the best ensembles I have seen in a film in a very long time! I was so excited to see this one because of the cast: Melissa Barrera (Scream 5 and 6), Kathryn Newton (Freaky, Lisa Frankenstein), Dan Stevens (The Guest), Kevin Durand (LOST and The Strain), and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad). I mean…can you get much better than that?

That’s already perfection to me and they DELIVERED and ate up every ounce of screen time with charisma. I loved all of the characters and thought that Alisha Weir was exceptional, but Dan Stevens edged out everyone for me. He was so fantastic in this. Loved every second of these performances!

So much fun!

Whoever came up with the premise of a ballerina vampire is a GENIUS! It was twisted and bonkers and it just worked so well! I knew I was going to love this film and it lived up to the hype.

It featured the perfect blend of humor and horror, which is what I love to see. It was so playful and I loved the gore. Abigail is brought to us from the same people who made Ready or Not and it very much channeled that vibe, but it never felt unoriginal or stale. It had its own voice and I’d honestly rank it right up there with that one and that’s one of my favorite horror films.

The Cons:

Yeah…I don’t have any.

I really don’t. This movie will definitely become a regular watch for me. It was fantastic and I don’t have anything negative to say about it.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Lisa Frankenstein” in Theaters: Charmingly Twisted

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“You need socialization…”

Lisa Frankenstein released in theaters on February 9th 2024. The horror comedy film stars Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, Liza Soberano, and Carla Gugino. It runs for approximately an hour and forty minutes.

Set in 1989, a misunderstood teen accidentally awakens a Victorian corpse, as the two set out to find love and happiness in unconventional ways.

Here is the trailer:

Lisa Frankenstein is everything I hoped it would be, featuring a romance that is anything but ordinary. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Cole Sprouse and Kathryn Newton are electric together.

Honestly, they were so much fun to watch in this one. In a lot of ways, this movie had a Warm Bodies meets Jennifer’s Body kind of vibe and I loved it. For not saying much, Cole Sprouse really stole the show and I think that Kathryn Newton is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the horror genre.

I couldn’t help but smile when the two of them were on screen together, which made this such a delightful and effortless watch for me.

Loved the 80’s vibe!

The music and fashion were fantastic in this one and I loved the use of bright colors throughout it. Everything just popped and it worked. This film never took itself too seriously and the time frame complimented the outrageous points of the plot really well.

The Cons:

Needed a touch more blood and gore in certain parts.

This may come down to preference, but I wanted a little more here since this movie wasn’t afraid to dabble into horror territory. Don’t get me wrong, we had some, but it felt very watered down. I don’t think it hindered the quality of this film in any way, but it would have been an added bonus.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

Lisa Frankenstein is a love letter to those of us who never quite fit in and were the better for it.

Quirky, offbeat, and wickedly delightful!
