Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Passage” season 1 episode 7: “You Are More Powerful Than You Realize”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching Fox’s The Passage season 1 episode 7, we learned that “there’s some scary stuff coming,” but when will it arrive? Will Amy bring it forth or will her humanity help her see the light? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “You Are Like the Sun,” we learn more about Brad and Lila’s past and find out how they lost their daughter, Eva. Meanwhile, Carter attempts to connect with Amy, Jonas refuses to give up on Elizabeth, and Shauna confronts Fanning. My top 5 moments from The Passage season 1 episode 7 are:

“I’m gonna find them.”

During the episode, Clark makes the decision to go after Brad and Lila to help them. Brad and Lila are separated from Amy, which is definitely not a good sign, as the government is looking to eliminate any possible threats to Project Noah. Clark has previously been an obedient soldier, but he now realizes that Project Noah is a horror show and he is looking to finally do the right thing. We learn that this is not the first time that Clark has saved Brad after learning more about Brad’s past, but it looks like Clark is ready to join the good fight. Welcome to the team!

“We’re waiting on you.”

Fanning has been promising for quite some time that bad things are coming, but it seems like a lot of talking so far. Even Shauna confronts Fanning within his mind, realizing that Fanning has become too preoccupied with Elizabeth joining them. Shauna reminds him that Elizabeth may not choose him and also talks about having a “humanity hangover,” admitting that she does care about Clark, which is important. Previously, I got the impression that Shauna was merely manipulating Clark, but now it seems like her humanity is still present, as her feelings for him are real. We know that there is a connection between Shauna and Clark, but what will happen when the glass wall between them shatters? Will Shauna choose darkness or humanity? We’ll have to wait and see.

“I choose you.”

Elizabeth’s condition continues to get worse, but Jonas does not want to give up on his wife, which is heartbreaking to see. Dr. Sykes does all she can to help, but tries to remind Jonas that Elizabeth has the same symptoms as the other subjects, which is not a good sign. Fanning continues to try and lure Elizabeth over to the darkness, tempting her with life over death, but ultimately Elizabeth chooses Jonas. Elizabeth tells Jonas to shut off the machines, accepting her fate. Jonas doesn’t want to say goodbye, but he respects his wife’s wishes and tells her he loves her over and over again, which brought tears to my eyes. While I didn’t think that Elizabeth would make it, I’m happy that she made the decision to stay away from Fanning’s offer, but this will only fuel Jonas that much more. Jonas is ready to eliminate Fanning, but what will happen when these two finally face off? I personally can’t wait to see it.

“You are more powerful than you realize.”

While Amy worries about Brad’s fate, she receives a mental visit from her buddy, Carter. She recognizes that Carter has changed; reminding us that Amy is very capable of seeing things as they are, even though she is just a child. Rather than tempting Amy with darkness, Carter appears to be warning her and tells her that he is trying to be better, but “hunger makes you do weird things.” Can Carter be trusted here? Initially, I thought so, but it looks like this may have been a different strategy, as Carter tells Amy that she can go anywhere. Amy confides in Carter about her guilt over her mother’s death and she desperately wants to see her again. Amy’s mind projects herself into her old apartment with her mother, as she embraces her and tells her how much she loves her, which is a touching moment. However, the happiness is interrupted when Amy hears a knock at the door and immediately recognizes Fanning on the other side. Amy used her abilities to do something she truly desired, but does that mean that she has now invited the darkness in as well?

“Start over. It is possible.”

We get an important glimpse into Brad and Lila’s past, which is beyond tragic. We see Brad and Lila’s daughter, Eva, who is full of love and life. After her soccer game, Eva explains that she needs markers and Brad makes the decision to go over to the convenience store across the street. The store is held up by a robber and Brad tries to keep him calm, but Eva walks in the door and startles the robber, causing him to turn around and shoot her. We witness one of Brad and Lila’s therapy sessions and Lila tries to talk about getting back to work so that she can help people, but Brad seems distant and unable to even comprehend this as an option. Brad does not identify the suspect in a lineup and ends up taking his life with his own hands. Clark has been Brad’s best friend for a while and he intervenes and covers it up to protect him. Brad’s guilt begins to overwhelm him and Clark is the one to suggest that he joins him at Project Noah so they can make a difference, which is how this all started.

Brad and Lila’s past is so horrific and it’s understandable that they drifted apart, but they are now being thrown together repeatedly, but it is under extremely dangerous circumstances. We have seen several signs of a renewed spark between these two, but I’m not sure if they will get the chance to pursue it. Either way, their connected past is revealing and it’s understandable why Brad feels such a close bond with Amy, as he will do anything to protect her. Lila gently reminds him that Amy is not Eva, but Brad wants to keep her safe no matter what, as he is still holding on to his grief.

Overall, I thought this episode was more of a setup for what’s to come, but there were some truly heartbreaking moments within it. We only have one more episode left before the two hour season finale. There has been so much talk about Fanning’s plan, but I would like to see the vampires escape at this point so that we can witness what they are truly capable of. The vampires have been in a bubble for a while now, so I think it’s about time that they are unleashed onto the world, but will anyone be able to stop them? Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Walking Dead” season 9 episode 11: “I Can’t Live With It Either”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching AMC’s The Walking Dead season 9 episode 11, I realized that saying “it’s all gonna work out” doesn’t always mean that it will. However, maintaining a positive outlook in the world of the dead is easier said than done. You make decisions that you have to live with it, but what if you can’t? Can you still make a difference and change it…or is it too late? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Bounty,” Alpha and the Whisperers have arrived and they are going to cause some conflict if they don’t get what they came for. Meanwhile, Ezekiel and Carol tackle a side mission of their own and Connie winds up in a dangerous situation. My top 5 moments from The Walking Dead season 9 episode 11 are:

“You can’t have her.”

Alpha and the Whisperers are at the gates to retrieve Alpha’s daughter and she promises that there will not be conflict if they simply cooperate. Daryl initially tells Alpha that she can’t have her, but everything changes when we learn that the Whisperers have Luke and Alden. Alpha proposes a trade: her daughter for the lives of Luke and Alden. Before Daryl has much time to think this over, he notices that one of the Whisperers is holding a crying baby and he asks, “You brought a baby out here?” Seriously, you read my mind, Daryl. Alpha compares her group to animals, which is creepy on its own, but things begin to get more complicated when the dead arrive to break up the party.

“You live with it by staying who you are.”

While all the commotion is going on, Henry breaks Lydia out of her cell and tries to protect her. We get some screen time for Enid, who says that she will go after Henry. In a touching moment, Enid talks about losing people and mentions Carl’s letter to her. Henry whines that it’s not fair, but Enid tries to remind him that he needs to stay true to himself and live with it as best he can. She further explains that you “can’t let the bad things change you,” which is actually really great advice. Henry tells Lydia that he is going to miss her and she actually tells him that she will miss him too. I guess all of Henry’s whining paid off, as he shares a brief kiss with Lydia.

After watching the preview for next week’s episode, it looks like Lydia is going to be asked to eliminate Henry, but will she be able to do so now that they have the potential for teen romance? We’ll have to wait and see. When Lydia is reunited with her mother, she is greeted with a smack in the face and a reminder to refer to her as “Alpha.” Alpha is definitely not up for mother of the year, but she did break her own rules to retrieve Lydia.

“It’s movie time.”

So, I absolutely loved that the show gave us some fun in this episode. Sometimes the episodes can drag a little and feel heavy and we need some comic relief or moments of fluff to keep us connected to the characters and to be entertained. Carol and Ezekiel get some screen time, as they head off with Jerry and friends for an important side mission. As they approach a movie theater filled with the dead, Jerry hilariously comments, “It’s movie time!” Ezekiel is all about creating and maintaining community and he wants the children to be able to experience watching a movie. We even get a fun “mission mix” soundtrack to accompany them, as they lure the dead out of there. It seems like everything is going according to plan until Jerry drops the bubble wrapped projection bulb, but all is not lost. Carol makes the decision as the “queen” to retrieve it and they take out the walkers and successfully complete their mission. Yay!

“Natural selection.”

During the episode, the dead break up Alpha’s talk with Daryl and the others, as Alpha signals for the Whisperer mother to put down her baby. Alpha explains that it is “natural selection” and that if the mother cannot quiet the baby, the dead will. I found myself shouting at the television at this point, as Alpha is proving to be extremely dangerous and ruthless. I actually feel bad for Lydia now. Luke and Alden are being held captive and Luke uses sign language to inform Connie what is going on, who has been hiding nearby. Connie courageously rescues the baby and ends up in an extremely dangerous situation. She heads into the corn fields and we see everything from her perspective, as the sound is cut, which was a brilliant decision. Connie tries to take out the Whisperers one by one, but they keep coming and I was even startled several times, as they continued to pop up out of nowhere. This moment was eerie and terrifying, but so well done. Luckily, Daryl shows up to save the day and Connie makes it out of there with the baby. Talk about suspense!

“I can’t live with it either.”

Toward the end of the episode, Henry confronts Daryl and asks him how he can live with what he did. Daryl explains that “the world is just shit sometimes and you live with it.” Daryl knows that he did what he had to, but he still has some guilt lingering. Henry continues to be naive and impulsive, as he takes off after Lydia and leaves Daryl a note, saying that he can’t live with it. Daryl decides to go after Henry and Connie wants to tag along. When Daryl asks her why, she writes down, “I can’t live with it either.” It looks like Daryl and “Dog” have a new companion, as they all head out together. I am really liking Connie, played by Lauren Ridloff, and I think that she may be able to help Daryl turn a corner. While I still ship Daryl and Carol together in the end, this may be a chance for Daryl to truly connect with someone. Daryl is used to being on his own, but he can’t do everything by himself.

Overall, I thought this was a solid episode and the corn field scene was captivating and intense. We are still left with some questions, however. We see a mysterious symbol on the back of a sign after Carol and Ezekiel leave the movie theater and we still don’t know about the “X” marks. Are these symbols connected or are they separate threats? The symbol looks like an upside down “V,” which could relate to dominance or power, but there could be endless possibilities. I would love to hear some of your theories on this. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “SMILF” season 2 episode 5: “Single Mom in Love Forever”

Greetings TV viewers! After watching Showtime’s SMILF season 2 episode 5, I realized that preparing for parenthood is never easy and things don’t always go according to plan. But it’s all worth it in the end. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In tonight’s episode, “Single Mom in Love Forever,” we travel back to 2014, as Bridgette and Rafi prepare for parenthood. Meanwhile, we finally understand where Tutu’s nickname comes from and also discover Bridgette’s inspiration for her son’s name. My top 5 moments from the SMILF season 2 episode 5 are:

“You cannot have a baby with that idiot.”

In the beginning of the episode, Tutu makes her feelings known right away, as she reacts to the news that Bridgette is pregnant. Even though Tutu is not Rafi’s biggest fan, she wants to support her daughter and do right by her. Rafi tries to bond with Tutu in several moments, but Tutu is still disappointed in some of her daughter’s decisions. That doesn’t mean that she will not be there for them, however.

“We’re not naming our kid after Hitler.”

One of the funniest moments of the episode is when Rafi suggests that they name their son, Adolfo. Bridgette explains that adding an “o” to a name doesn’t really help and uses the example, “Hitlero,” to further her argument. At this point, they haven’t decided on a name just yet, but Bridgette clearly wants it to mean something special.

“I know how much you love me.”

Rafi proposes to Bridgette when he finds out that she is pregnant and they have plans to get married. However, they are not without issues, as we learn that Rafi kisses someone else, which rubs Bridgette the wrong way. Bridgette knows how much Rafi loves her and Rafi is extremely excited to be a father, but she ends up telling him that she can’t marry him while in labor. However, I still see some sparks between these two in present day, so maybe they are finally ready to give it another try? We’ll have to wait and see.

“You’re in labor right here in a park.”

Bridgette has been preparing for a home birth, but Tutu reminds her that there are no life saving devices at home and tries to get her to go to the hospital. Bridgette is extremely determined to have a home birth, which is painful to watch. While I understand her wanting to follow through with her plan, I think that maybe it would have been a good idea to go to the hospital after all, but at least everything worked out in the end.

“See someone was giving away Larry Bird T-Shirts.”

After walking around while in labor, Bridgette comes across a Larry Bird T-Shirt. She initially tries to steal it, but the woman selling it ultimately tells her she can have it. This inspires Larry’s name, as she gives birth to her son in this very shirt. Bridgette, Rafi, and Tutu’s reaction to Larry’s arrival is sweet and heartwarming. Tutu requests to be called “Tutu” because it is Hawaiian for Grandma and she always thought of herself as Hawaiian. I guess that’s as good a reason as any. Either way, this episode gave us the chance to see Bridgette’s past, which was important and revealing. Stay tuned for more SMILF fun!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Shameless” season 9 episode 12: “You’ll Know the Bottom When You Hit It”

Happy Sunday TV fans! After watching Showtime’s Shameless season 9 episode 12, I realized that “people do crazy shit when the power goes out.” However, Frank reminded us that “you just gotta stay creative.” Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In tonight’s episode, “You’ll Know the Bottom When You Hit It,” Frank uses the city blackout to make a quick profit and decides to show Fiona the ropes. Meanwhile, Lip says goodbye to Xan, Debbie and Carl continue fighting over Kelly, and Kev deals with a “ticking time ball.” My top 5 moments from Shameless season 9 episode 12 are:

“Nobody likes a clinger.”

In this episode, Carl feels that Kelly is being distant, but he becomes almost obsessive when he finds out that Debbie is constantly texting her. This leads to an ongoing fight over Kelly’s affection, as both Gallagher siblings seem unwilling to give up. Later in the episode, Kelly breaks up with Carl for being too clingy, but does this mean that she will explore some potential feelings for Debbie? I’m thinking so, based on the preview for next week’s episode. Maybe Carl’s former girlfriend, Kassidi, can come back from the dead? Or maybe she’s not really dead? You never know on Shameless.

“She needs to hit rock bottom.”

Lip has a lot going on in this episode, as Xan exits in the beginning, but not before giving Lip a friendship bracelet she made him, which is adorable. Later on, Tami finally has a talk with Lip and they decide that they are going to give parenthood a try, which I am so excited about. While they admit that they don’t know what the future holds for them, I really think that Lip will make a great father and will support his child no matter what. This is an important step in Lip’s life and it looks like things are finally coming together for him. However, Lip is still extremely worried about Fiona and even throws out her stuff to make his point. Later on, Lip has an important talk with V, explaining that if she is really Fiona’s friend; she won’t let her stay with her. Lip understands that Fiona needs to truly hit rock bottom so that she can finally get some help. It’s not always easy to turn your back on someone you love, but sometimes it is necessary to save them.

“Gallagher’s Blackout Supply.”

The entire city is dealing with a blackout and no one is happy about it…except Frank. Frank is known for his get-rich-quick schemes and he takes full advantage here, as he has been preparing for a possible blackout for quite some time. Frank officially welcomes Fiona to the “ranks of the unemployed” and decides to show his daughter the ropes. They negotiate over her cut and Fiona explains that “Frank’s Blackout Supply” will be renamed “Gallagher’s Blackout Supply,” which definitely has a better ring to it. Fiona is actually really “creative” with her sales skills and the two of them have a line down the block, as they sell ice, batteries, flashlights and all other necessities during this time of panic. Sure, their prices may be a little outrageous, but they absolutely have a demand for their products.

“We found the true power of the South Side.”

It seems like everyone is taking Frank’s advice in this episode about being creative, as Kev decides to have a cookout at The Alibi so that the steaks V purchased don’t go bad. It seems like a great idea and a lot of the neighbors show up, but they also learn that the rest of Chicago got their power back. Fiona starts a protest march for the South Siders, which consists of some catchy slogans such as: “What the f*ck Chicago? Should’ve had power hours ago” and “South Side is where it’s at. We’ll f*ck you up with a baseball bat.” Power is finally restored and everyone celebrates at The Alibi, as Kev takes a minute to comment on how everyone came together and had a great day.

“We get exactly what we deserve.”

Fiona’s drinking has gotten worse and even Frank tries to intervene at this point, as he tries to tell Fiona that she is a bad drunk, but she doesn’t want to hear it. Later on, when everyone is celebrating at The Alibi, Fiona still can’t be happy and she takes it out on everyone there. V makes a strong decision by informing Fiona that she cannot stay with her and Fiona says she understands. Fiona ends up sleeping in her abandoned apartment building and wakes up, recovering from her drinking.

As Fiona walks down the stairs, she comes across an old copy of “Business Reviewer” magazine addressed to her and finally hits rock bottom, realizing that she no longer recognizes the girl who used to subscribe to that magazine. The girl who was so motivated and talented, but she is still in there somewhere, as we finally get a glimmer of hope. Fiona ends up joining Lip at a meeting at the end of the episode. They exchange glances, but don’t say anything, which is extremely powerful. It looks like our girl, Fiona, is finally going to get the help she needs. It’s about time.

Overall, this was one of the best episodes I have seen in a long time. There was as lot of fun throughout it, but my heart went out to Fiona. Emmy Rossum’s performance was so real and heartbreaking and I still don’t know how I will be able to deal with her exiting the show, but this episode truly touched me. Stay tuned!

My Ship of the week ending 2/23/19 on TV goes to…

Brad and Lila on The Passage. Even though their marriage may be over, I can’t ignore the chemistry between these two. Brad and Lila clearly care about each other very much and will risk everything for one another. We know that tragedy created a void in their marriage, but is there any hope for these two? After last week’s episode, Brad sweetly draped his arm over Lila’s shoulder and was extremely protective over her.

I’m not sure if a happily ever after is in their future, but I don’t think the relationship is over between these two just yet and I am absolutely shipping them. Brad’s real bond is with Amy, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have feelings for Lila anymore. What’s next for Brad and Lila? We’ll have to stay tuned to find out, but it looks like they may be in trouble. After all, vampires are threatening the world, so they may need to put their potential romance on pause for now, but I wouldn’t mind some more screen time for these two.

My performance of the week ending 2/23/19 on TV goes to…

Jeremy Allen White as Lip Gallagher on Shameless. Even though most people know Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy from the show, Jeremy Allen White consistently provides us with real and heartbreaking moments. His portrayal of Lip is so believable and it’s hard not to feel something for his character. What’s next for Lip? We’ll have to stay tuned to find out, but it looks like he has a lot on his plate. Lip has always looked up to Fiona, but is he finally ready to step into the spotlight and handle all that comes with it? I think that Lip always puts his family first and he may not always make the best decisions, but he thinks with his heart and he deeply cares for others. Even though he is often conflicted, his selfless actions prove that he has the potential to truly impact others.

Ranking the top 5 episodes of “Angel”

Happy Wednesday TV Fans! I just finished my Angel re-watch and I’m left wanting more! I mean, we were left with a cliffhanger in the end, but there is something to be said about this series, which truly resonates with me. For today, I am going to be ranking my top 5 episodes from Angel. Over my many re-watches of the show, these episodes still stand out and captivate my undivided attention.

The series has so many great episodes and I have plenty of honorable mentions as well because it was truly difficult to just pick five episodes. Like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this show has a lot of funny moments, but it is also very dark and extremely heartbreaking. I relate to the characters on this show so much and I think that’s why some of these episodes truly stand out for me.

It’s not just about advancing the plot or introducing a new big bad. These episodes mark epic moments, but they also remind us how much we truly connect to these characters, even after all this time. While some episodes are shocking, other ones are beyond heartbreaking, but they are absolutely brilliant and worthy of a discussion for sure. During my re-watch, I chatted with so many Buffy and Angel fans and it was interesting to see which episodes stood out for them compared to my own.

While I may have my own personal preferences, it just furthers my opinion that Angel is an underrated spin-off and deserves some recognition as a standalone series as well. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not yet watched the series. My top 5 episodes from Angel are:

“Rm w/a Vu” (Season 1, episode 5)

Cordy: I’m not a sniveling whiny little Cry-Buffy. I’m the nastiest girl in Sunnydale history. I take crap from no one…Back off! Polygrip. You think *you’re* bad? Being all mean and haunty? Picking on poor pathetic Cordy? Well, get ready to haul your wrinkly translucent ass out of this place, because lady, the bitch is back.

Maude: Do you think that I’m going to take that from trash like you?

Cordy: I tell you what I think. I think that you’re going to pack your little ghost bags and get the HELL OUT OF MY HOUSE!

So for me, this episode has to be the one that hooked me onto Angel for good. When I first began watching Angel, it coincided with season 4 of Buffy and I was mostly looking for crossover events. However, this episode changed all of that for me. I always loved Cordelia Chase on Buffy, played by the amazing and beautiful, Charisma Carpenter. However, she didn’t always get enough screen time on Buffy and she started to really grow as a character toward the end of season 3. She even staked her very first vampire at graduation!

I was excited to see her on Angel and this episode allowed her to step out of her supporting role and into a leading one with flair. This episode is absolutely hilarious and kind of creepy at the same time. I have to admit that I always hesitate before looking in the mirror in the bathroom just because of this very episode. I mean, you never know if Maude is still hanging around.

I love this episode because Angel and Doyle are trying to fight off other demons, but it’s Cordelia who needs to find the strength within herself to cast out the ghost of Maude, proving that you should never underestimate a girl with confidence and attitude.

“Reunion” (Season 2, episode 10)

Lilah: For god’s sake, help us.

Holland: Angel – please. – People are going to die.

Angel: And yet, somehow, I just can’t seem to care.

My top 5 list would not be complete without including “Reunion.” I absolutely adore both Drusilla and Darla and often felt like they didn’t get enough time on Buffy either. Fear not, these bad-ass ladies make their triumphant return on Angel and wreak havoc on the entire city. After being brought back from the dead, Darla realizes that she is dying as a mortal and the lawyers of Wolfram & Hart enlist Drusilla to turn Darla back into a vampire.

In this episode, these two ladies go shopping, which is enough to make this episode truly stand out, especially when Drusilla starts “ringing all over.” I mean, you gotta love modern technology. However, they do not stop here, as they decide to go to the Wolfram & Hart party and truly make a splash. Darla reminds Holland and the other lawyers that they ordered a massacre and these two ladies show up to bring the massacre to them.

While this moment is shocking on its own, Angel shows up and closes the doors on the lawyers, turning his back on them and refusing to help. Drusilla recognizes that this man is not Angelus, but Angel’s humanity is tainted here, as he gives up and even fires his team at the end of the episode, causing our fearless leader to question everything.

“Birthday” (Season 3, episode 11)

Skip: You may wanna think about that. The only way *you* get to keep the visions is by becoming – part demon. The process isn’t easy. It’ll make your vision pain feel like a stroll through candyland. And even after the pain subsides the effects of the transition will be numerous and unpredictable. You may never be able to lead a human life again.

Cordy: So – demonize me already.

I love this episode because it is a Cordy-centric one; however, it also allows Cordelia to really transform and grow as a selfless hero, which is extremely important. In this episode, Cordelia’s painful visions catch up with her, as she ends up in some kind of deep sleep or coma, as Angel and her friends try to help her.

Cordelia ends up in a limbo of sorts and meets her guide, Skip, who is a hilarious demon that really almost deserves his own spin-off series. Cordelia is brought to a mall so she feels comfortable and is given the chance to re-write her life. Skip makes it so she never bumped into Angel at the party in LA and she ends up becoming famous with her own show, Cordy! It seems like she has the perfect life, but Cordelia’s path intertwines with helping the helpless and she later makes the decision to accept her visions and become part demon.

Skip warns her that there will be consequences, but Cordelia is ready to accept her fate, understanding that it is her true purpose to help others. This episode is so important because we have really seen Cordelia’s goodness shine through, as she will do anything to help. In previous seasons of Buffy and maybe even earlier on Angel, Cordelia would have taken her shiny new life and ran with it, but she’s not that girl anymore. She has become a hero one can truly be proud of and she’s ready to embrace her new destiny.

“Not Fade Away” (Season 5, episode 22)

Illyria: You’re fading. You’ll last 10 minutes at best.

Gunn: Then let’s make ’em memorable.

Spike: In terms of a plan?

Angel: We fight.

Spike: Bit more specific.

Angel: Well, personally, I kind of want to slay the dragon…Let’s go to work.

I was a little torn between my number 1 and 2 picks, but I am going to give the series finale of Angel my number 2 spot. However, please note that this was a very difficult decision because this episode is fantastic. Season 5 really got things back on track for the show, but it also provided us with some heartbreaking moments that still make me cry today.

In the series finale, the apocalypse we have been hearing about for 5 seasons is finally unleashed by Wolfram & Hart. Angel and his team are ready to fight, even though the odds are definitely not in their favor. The episode does a great job of summing certain things up and providing us with some closure. For example, we get to see Harmony being Harmony and Connor returns to stand by his father’s side, which is important. We also get to see some heartbreaking closure for Wesley as well, which I am going to devote another blog entry to, so stay tuned on that.

At the end of the episode, it is raining and our remaining heroes debate over the plan. Angel wants to fight the dragon of course and simply tells them to “go to work,” leaving fans with a major cliffhanger at the end of the series. So, we don’t know if the prophecy will be fulfilled and if Angel will eventually become human and we don’t know the fate of some of our remaining characters as well.

However, I think this series finale is one of the best I have seen on any show because it reminds us what the show is about. While Buffy had more closure and the opportunity to do whatever she wanted at the end of the series, Angel and his team are left fighting the good fight, which is why he came to LA in the first place. It’s not about achieving the happily ever after. It’s about the fight until the very end to “help the helpless” and that’s exactly what Angel and the others do.

“You’re Welcome” (Season 5, episode 12)

Angel: I need you here.

Cordy: Don’t make it hard, Angel. I’m just on a different road… and this is my off-ramp. The Powers That Be owed me one, and I didn’t waste it. I got my guy back on track…We take what we can get, champ, and we do our best with it. I’ll be seeing you.

Oh, what the hell. One for the road?

There really has to be something said for the 100^th episode of this series. I remember being so disappointed when I saw that Cordelia was no longer in the main credits at the start of season 5 and I was wondering if she would ever wake up from her coma. In this episode, fans get their wish and Cordelia returns. Her bright smile is back and she is excited for some “shopping” with Angel and Wesley, giving fans a real sense of nostalgia and appreciation for the start of the series.

The episode is absolutely brilliant from start to finish, but nothing could prepare me for the very end. Joss Whedon is fantastic at creating twists that we never see coming and that’s what he did here. Cordelia reveals that it’s no longer her time and that the “Powers That Be” owed her one, allowing her to get Angel back on track with his destiny.

Throughout the series, Angel and Cordelia had a will-they-won’t-they vibe going on and I really loved the chemistry between these two. That being said, I am a Buffy & Angel fan for life, but I’m not going to knock the connection between Angel and Cordelia. After missing literally every opportunity to be together previously, it seems like they are now going to get a chance at a “happily ever after.” Only this is a Joss Whedon show and happily ever after is not possible, as we learn that Cordelia never wakes up from her coma and Angel is informed at the end of the episode that she died. A

ngel is initially confused, as he tells the person on the phone that she is standing right there, but realizes that she is gone. However, Cordelia does her job by reminding Angel what he stands for and they even get the chance to share an epic kiss that had me swooning for sure.

In classic Cordy-style, she says, “You’re welcome” at the end of the episode and we are left with Angel simply saying, “Thank you,” which broke my heart all over again, as he is now standing there alone.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Passage” season 1 episode 6: “How About a Horror Movie?”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching Fox’s The Passage season 1 episode 6, Brad reminded Amy that “even when things get scary…stay calm.” But that’s easier said than done when you have a dangerous vampire on the loose. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “I Want to Know What You Taste Like,” we learn more about Dr. Sykes’s past friendship with Shauna. Meanwhile, Amy attempts to help track down Winston, Clark begins to show signs that he may not be completely on board with Project Noah, and Lila has a close call. My top 5 moments from The Passage season 1 episode 6 are:

“Cause what you’re saying is insane.”

During the episode, Dr. Jonas Lear is reunited with his wife, Elizabeth. Elizabeth’s mind has healed, but he comes clean with her about everything. Elizabeth understands that she may turn within 48 hours, which is confusing and hard to deal with. It also doesn’t help that Fanning continues to pay her visits in her mind, luring her toward the darkness. Jonas is desperate to find a cure for Elizabeth and he hopes that Dr. Sykes will find a way to use Amy’s blood to counteract Fanning’s serum. However, it’s not looking too good for Elizabeth.

“I’m sorry I got you into this.”

In last week’s episode, Lila was abducted and we now learn that Clark’s men were sent to retrieve her because she is a liability. After Winston takes a bite out of her driver, Lila escapes, but she continues to find trouble on her way. Lila comes across a woman bit by Winston and tries to help her, but is shocked when the woman already shows signs of being impacted by the virus. Luckily, Lila makes it out of there OK and she is reunited with Brad and Amy. Brad apologizes for getting Lila involved and in a sweet moment, he drapes his arm around her, revealing that there may be hope for these two to get back together. There is definitely a vibe between them, but they have faced so much heartbreak together and their marriage may not be easily salvaged. However, I am definitely shipping these two together and somehow, I want them to have a happy family again with Amy. A girl can dream.

“I want everything that matters to you to be mine.”

We get a glimpse into Dr. Sykes’s past and learn that she had a friendship with Shauna before she turned, approximately 6 months ago, during Project Noah. We learn that Dr. Sykes has never seen a horror movie other than I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which is absolutely hilarious. Shauna bonds with Dr. Sykes and they even share a pizza together while watching The Fly. Clark warns Dr. Sykes about Shauna and we see the beginning of their own relationship, as Clark bravely offers to accompany Dr. Sykes while she watches, A Quiet Place, so that she can fill Shauna in on the details. It seemed like this was a sweet friendship and Shauna trusted Dr. Sykes, but everything changed when she turned. In present day, Shauna finally pays Dr. Sykes a visit in her mind and tells her that she wants to take everything that matters to her and when she has everything, she wants to know what she tastes like. Shauna clearly feels betrayed and hurt by Dr. Sykes, but she uses this to her advantage, manipulating Dr. Sykes and trying to threaten her. Shauna later says, “It’s kind of funny you don’t like horror movies since you’re living in one,” and then tells Dr. Sykes that she will see her soon, leaving us with another ominous threat. It’s only a matter of time before the vampires figure out a way to escape, but it looks like the subjects are taking everything personally and they will not stop until they get their revenge.

“I’m gonna find your book.”

Amy is upset when she leaves behind the book her mother gave her, A Wrinkle in Time, and is angry at Brad when he doesn’t go back to retrieve it initially. Amy’s abilities are continuing to surprise everyone, as we learn that she can tap into Winston’s mind and see what he sees. She helps the agents find Winston, proving to be extremely useful, but Brad is worried about what they will later do to Amy. We know that “weaponizing Amy” is a goal, but Brad is not about to abandon her. At the end of the episode, Brad and Amy share another heartwarming moment. Brad explains, “I know what it’s like to lose someone,” and tells Amy about his own daughter. Brad and Amy bond over their grief and Brad promises that he will get her book back.

“I’m the author of this horror.”

Dr. Lear takes full responsibility for Project Noah and is ready to kill all the vampires, including his former best friend. He asks Dr. Sykes if she is in and she agrees, as Jonas begins to expose Fanning and the other subjects to intense amounts of light to destroy them. We discover that when Winston was killed, all of the vampires he turned died along with him. The same thing begins to occur now, as both Amy and Elizabeth show signs that they are in intense pain, revealing that they are linked to Fanning. Dr. Sykes tells Jonas that he has to shut it down, as they are not about to kill Amy or Elizabeth in the process. Now that we know that they are all linked, how will they be able to stop Fanning?

Overall, I thought this was another solid episode. The connected past between Dr. Sykes and Shauna was revealing. We didn’t get to see Lacey in this episode, but something tells me that she will be back before we know it. Amy’s abilities are continuing to grow, but I am interested to see how Project Noah attempts to exploit this. It looks like we will get to see Carter in next week’s episode and we know that he shared a bond with Amy previously. Will Fanning use this to his advantage to try and turn Amy? Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Walking Dead” season 9 episode 10: “I am Alpha”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching AMC’s The Walking Dead season 9 episode 10, I realized that sometimes we desperately want to see the good in someone and ignore all the signs around us. Perhaps that person has the potential to be good, but sometimes other forces get in the way. And when that other force is your mother, you don’t really have a choice…or do you? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Omega,” Henry continues to grow closer to Lydia, while Daryl keeps a watchful eye on them. Meanwhile, the new arrivals try to sneak out and find Luke and the Whisperers make their presence known. My top 5 moments from The Walking Dead season 9 episode 10 are:

“She’s a liar.”

During the episode, Tara and some of the newcomers come across horses that have been half skinned, which have caught the attention of a hungry walker horde. Tara and the others recognize that they had been with Luke and Alden, realizing that their friends have gone missing. Tara does not want to do anything rash that might get someone killed and suggests that they go back and plan what to do next, especially since they don’t know if they can trust Lydia. The leadership role is new for Tara, even though she has been there through it all, but I appreciate that she is honest and to the point. The newcomers decide to sneak out and try and find Luke, which is dangerous after dark. Tara later explains that she would have preferred that they had simply come to her, proving that she has the potential to become a true leader of the people, but is she ready to make the hard choices when they come up?

“Can you stay with me tonight?”

So, the creepy budding romance between Henry and Lydia continues in this episode. Henry believes that Lydia is a good person and it appears that Lydia may be warming up to him, although her idea of a romantic evening out includes eating dirt and worms. I mean, “hunger is a gift,” after all. Daryl has been listening in on the conversation, which upsets Henry. He feels used, but Daryl tries to make him understand that Lydia could be dangerous and that they need to find out as much Intel as they can. After contemplating taking a hammer to Henry on their journey outside the cell, Lydia freaks out when she hears a baby crying and has second thoughts, begging Henry to take her back to the cell. Henry seems really eager to connect, but I wonder what Carol will think when she finds out what is going on. Either way, my “dumb ass Henry” comments continued throughout this episode and I am not shipping these two whatsoever.

“You don’t know shit about me.”

Daryl recognizes the marks on Lydia’s arm and realizes that she has been abused, which is something that Daryl has dealt with in his own past. Lydia recognizes that Daryl doesn’t really belong either, but Daryl does not want to reveal anything about himself to her. Daryl insists that they are changing the world back, but does he truly believe that this is possible? Daryl has shown glimmers of belonging and he can be extremely loyal, but he also does well on his own, which may make him doubt himself. Has he really grown soft or is he prepared to do what is necessary to protect the people he cares about?

“I knew what she was…I knew what she did.”

During the episode, we get a glimpse into Lydia’s past, which starts out at Day 23. Lydia is around five years old and she has to deal with a lot of trauma growing up. Both Lydia’s mother and father begin showing signs of cabin fever, as they remain inside for days upon days. Lydia initially remembers her father being killed by a walker, but later reveals that it was her mother who killed him. Lydia’s mother starts off seeming strong, but she later shaves her head and reveals just how dangerous she could be, warning others to shut their mouths, explaining where the concept of “The Whisperers” comes from. Lydia tells Daryl and Henry that when someone is left behind, the group simply moves forward, but is any of it true? Can Lydia really be trusted at all here? While I sympathize with her traumatic past, that’s really all she knows and intimidation and fear can motivate someone to do almost anything.

“We only want one thing from you…my daughter.”

Overall, there was not too much action going on in this episode. However, the last few minutes were bone-chilling and had me on the edge of my seat. The Whisperers approach the gates and Lydia’s mother steps forward without her mask. She introduces herself as “Alpha” and tells them that they want her daughter back. In the preview for next week’s episode, Alpha eerily states, “wrong answer” when Daryl says that they aren’t going to give her back. What will the Whisperers do to get her back? Are our survivors prepared for a war? Where are Luke and Alden? I think we need Carol to return as soon as possible and it looks like we will see her next week, as I would personally love to see a face-off between Carol and Alpha. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “SMILF” season 2 episode 4: “It Only Has To Work Once”

Greetings TV viewers! After watching Showtime’s SMILF season 2, episode 4, I realized that “there’s something about Bridgette Bird.” Sure, she may be a little quirky, but it’s important that she recognizes who she is and stays true to herself. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In tonight’s episode, “So Maybe I Look Feminine,” Bridgette has a busy day planned, as she tries to tackle her to-do list. Meanwhile, Nelson invites Bridgette to the salon, which leads to some temptation and fantasy along the way. My top 5 moments from SMILF season 2 episode 4 are:

“You’re the one that should shush.”

In the beginning of the episode, Rafi and Nelson arrive at Bridgette’s apartment to pick Larry up for a fun weekend. Bridgette is thrown off when Nelson shushes Larry while on the phone. Bridgette is very protective of Larry and she wants him to feel loved wherever he goes, but she chooses not to confront Nelson in this very moment. However, she does point out to herself that Nelson is the one that should really shush.

“Rollin with the homies…”

After trying to tackle her to-do list, Bridgette takes Nelson up on her offer and joins her and her friend at the salon. After flipping through some hairstyle choices a la Britney Spears and Brittany Murphy, Nelson decides she will be going with the Brittany Murphy look and her and her friend break out into a tear-filled “rollin with the homies” to honor Brittany’s classic performance in one of my favorite films of all time, Clueless.

“I think you should consider going blonde.”

While waiting for her stylist, Bridgette meets a bride to be, played by Ari Graynor, and the two bond over some eyeliner tips. The woman suggests that Bridgette goes blonde, which allows us to see Bridgette’s fantasy world complete with an adorable polka dot ensemble, while watching a polo match. Bridgette actually looks really fabulous with her blonde hair, but we quickly learn that it has somehow transformed her entire life, which I’m not sure is really possible, but sometimes we all need a change in our look here and there.

“Is that Kevin Bacon on a horse?”

I mean, Bridgette’s fantasy would not be complete without Kevin Bacon showing up on a horse. After all, Hollow Man is her favorite film. Later on, Bridgette crosses paths with Kevin Bacon, who offers to “finger bang” her. However, he does not want to do this in front of his horse, Peggy, named after Pegasus. After the act is complete, Kevin asks Bridgette to dinner, who is beyond thrilled to accept.

“I missed you today.”

After the encounter with Kevin, Bridgette confronts Nelson about shushing Larry and Ari Graynor’s character ends up getting brutally hit in the face with a polo ball. There is blood everywhere and Bridgette repeatedly asks, “Will someone help her?” Bridgette spots a mannequin dressed like her former self in a t-shirt and shorts with brown hair, reminding her who she really is. This moment snaps Bridgette back to reality, as she is now staring in the mirror at her messy brown hair and makes the decision not to go to the salon. Bridgette is beyond thrilled to see Larry return, reminding her what’s truly important to her. Stay tuned for more SMILF fun!
