Spoiler-Free Review of “Wolf Like Me” on Peacock: Quirky Dramedy with Heart

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I haven’t been out in a really long time…”

Wolf Like Me released on January 13th 2022 on Peacock. The supernatural dramedy series stars Isla Fisher and Josh Gad. There are six episodes in total that run for approximately 22-26 minutes.

Set in Australia, a single father tries to connect with his eleven-year-old daughter when a woman named Mary crashes into his car. After their first date, she runs out the door, revealing that she has a supernatural secret.

Here is the trailer:

Wolf Like Me has a Santa Clarita Diet vibe with fantastic characters, but does it find its balance between drama and comedy? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Peacock

Great chemistry between Gad and Fisher.

Both actors did a fantastic job with this series. I thought they had really terrific chemistry together. Both characters had a lot of layers and there was pure magic when they were together, which really elevated this series for me.

Short episodes.

This show was extremely easy to binge-watch. Each episode is just under a half hour and there are only six in total. Even though this series is a slow-burn one in a lot of ways, I thought the length of the episodes helped the pacing. Each episode did just enough at the end to bring you back for more.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Peacock

Really heavy at times…

It’s not easy finding a balance between comedy and drama. I thought that the moments of comedy were actually spot on and I enjoyed them. There were also some really heartfelt moments too that just worked. This is one of those shows where it’s really more about the characters than the plot surrounding them.

However, some of the more emotional moments were really heavy and depressing at times, which made it difficult to jump right back into the moments of comedy without feeling slightly unhinged.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Peacock

I’m in about 75 percent…

Overall, I really enjoyed this series. I thought that it had a quirky charm to it and the characters were easy to connect to. At times the plot fell slightly flat, but the interactions and moments between the characters made up for it in a lot of ways.

Spoiler-Free Review of “A Discovery of Witches” Season 3 on Shudder: All things must come to an end…

**This is a spoiler-free review for season 3 so feel free to read on!**

“Welcome home…”

A Discovery of Witches season 3 premiered on Sky TV, Sundance Now, Shudder, and AMC plus on January 8th 2022 with the first episode available to stream now. There will be seven episodes in total that will air weekly. The series stars Teresa Palmer, Matthew Goode, Malin Buska, and Owen Teale. Each episode runs for approximately 45-50 minutes.

Picking up right where we left off at the end of season two, A Discovery of Witches season 3 will be the final season of the series, mirroring the All Souls Trilogy books. Diana Bishop and Matthew return to present day, as they prepare for a final battle with Peter Knox.

Here is the trailer:

A Discovery of Witches season 3 has a lot to jam-pack into the final season to stay true to the book series as we root for Diana and Matthew against all odds. Will it end the series on a high note? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

A Discovery of Witches spoiler free 1

Keeps things short…

I think it’s really smart that this is going to be the final season of the show. There are three books in the series and even though many other shows have gone on for several other seasons past the books, sometimes this can be a mistake. I think the series has been really strong so far and this allows the writers to end things the way they want to.

Better pacing.

My only con throughout the seasons has been the pacing. Things can drag here and there, but I think that season 3 is already off to a much better start in terms of this. Since there is so much to squeeze into the final season, we aren’t wasting any time and we are jumping right into things. Let’s keep this going!

The Cons:

A Discovery of Witches season 3 spoiler free 2

A lot to remember.

I really should have re-watched the first two seasons or re-read the books again because there is SO MUCH to remember. This isn’t necessarily a con but I feel like I need a cheat sheet to keep up at times. You may want to at least watch a full recap before jumping into season 3.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

I simply adore the book series and I have been a fan of the show so far. I really can’t wait to see how things unfold for the final season! Diana has so much left to show us and I honestly can’t wait!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Anxious People” on Netflix: Whodunnit Mystery with Heart

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Appearances can be deceptive…”

Anxious People released on December 29th 2021 on Netflix. The Swedish dramedy mystery series stars Alfred Svensson, Dan Ekborg, Carla Sehn, Marika Lagercrantz and Sascha Zacharias. The limited series features six episodes available to stream now. Each episode is approximately 25-30 minutes long.

A bank robber holds a group of strangers hostage at an open house event and then vanishes from the scene, as a father and son cop duo try to figure out what really happened.

Here is the trailer:

Anxious People has a quirky charm creating an interesting mashup of Only Murders in the Building and Nine Perfect Strangers, but is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Good balance of humor and drama.

It’s not easy nailing a dramedy and somehow Anxious People makes it look easy. There is a lot of emotional and heartfelt content here, but there is also a really fun mystery and tons of light humor similar to Hot Fuzz in a lot of ways to keep things light. I personally loved the balance and I was surprised by how much I actually liked this show.

Short episodes.

If you are looking for something quick to binge-watch, you’re in the right place. Each episode is just under a half hour and the pacing works really well. We focus on a different witness in each episode, weaving the pieces of the mystery together for us in a compelling way.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Takes a little while to get going…

Even though I was entertained during the first two episodes, I was also really confused and I think that the series was attempting to find its way. I wasn’t really sure what type of show I was watching, but once I got to episode three, I felt right at home and I thought the show found its groove, reeling me in for more and more.

Since there were only six episodes, I would have liked to have been brought in right from the start, but I think it managed to find its way in the end.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Netflix

I’m in!

This show really had a great balance and presented us with a fun mystery at its core, but it was also about the characters and their interactions, which made this such a heartwarming watch. I genuinely loved the vibe and I thought that it had a satisfactory conclusion, making it an easy binge-watch to enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Anxious People in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Silent Sea” on Netflix: An Intense Watch

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“We have an important mission…”

The Silent Sea premiered on Netflix on December 24th 2021 with eight episodes available to stream now. The South Korean sci-fi thriller series stars Gong Yoo, Bae Doona, Lee Joon, Kim Sun-Young and Heo Sung-tae.

A group goes on an important mission to the moon to seek out samples that could help save the world, but something is lurking in the abandoned space station they are on, putting them all in immediate danger.

Here is the trailer:

The Silent Sea has an Alien feel with edge-of-your-seat intensity and complex characters, but does it do enough to be worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Chilling and intense!

From the music, to the setting, I thought this show really nailed the vibe it was going for. I don’t normally watch too many sci-fi series, but this one did a great job of reeling the audience in with each episode. There was a lot of mystery surrounding everything and the reveals were well worth it in my opinion.

Images courtesy of Netflix

Characters to root for.

While some of the characters were pretty much there to add to the body count, there were others that had a lot of layers. Dr. Song and Captain Han were both fantastic characters and it helped me care about the outcome that much more.

I thought the past flashbacks worked because they didn’t dominate the episodes. Rather, they gave us glimpses into the past lives of these characters and what made them go on the mission in the first place, which was an effective approach.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Pacing issues…

The episodes could have been a little shorter. I was hooked the entire time I was watching the show, but it did have some pacing issues going on. It took too long for things to happen, which was slightly frustrating at times.

I also don’t think you should go into this show expecting it to be the next Squid Game even though there were some similarities and some of the same actors appeared in The Silent Sea. If you treat it as a separate show, you will enjoy it more.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Netflix

I’m in!

This is not the type of show I normally watch, but I was surprised by how much it hooked me right from the start. It was chilling and intense with a great strong female lead!

If you enjoy sci-fi thrillers, you will feel right at home with this one.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on The Silent Sea in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Stay Close” on Netflix: Harlan Coben does it again!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“Do they know who you were in your previous life?”

Harlan Coben’s Stay Close premiered on Netflix on December 31st 2021. The mystery thriller series features eight episodes available to stream now. It stars Cush Jumbo, Richard Armitage, James Nesbitt, Sarah Parish and Bethany Antonia. Each episode runs for approximately 42-48 minutes.

As Megan prepares for her upcoming wedding, her dangerous past comes back to haunt her, connecting her to a mysterious murder while threatening her new life and family.

Here is the trailer:

Stay Close follows Harlan Coben’s compelling and addicting formula perfectly, but does this series do enough to keep up with The Stranger and The Innocent? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

An engrossing mystery…

I’ve come to expect this from the Harlan Coben mysteries, but this series is no exception. I was immediately pulled in right from the start and each episode did plenty to bring me back for more. This show was so much fun to binge-watch. It kept me guessing the entire time and did a great job of revealing just enough to keep the audience fully invested.

Images courtesy of Netflix

A final twist I didn’t see coming!

I’ve gotten pretty good at piecing together Harlan Coben mysteries, but there is always one final twist that throws me for a loop and this may be the best twist I have seen so far! I am still in shock over it!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

A lot to keep track of…

If you’re used to Harlan Coben mysteries, then you already know that there will be plenty of sub-plots to make your head spin, but everything eventually connects in the end. I wouldn’t really say this is a con, but you need to pay attention to everything and even if some characters seem slightly ridiculous, they’ll start to grow on you…

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Netflix

I’m in 100 percent!!!

Stay Close is a fantastic mystery that will keep you guessing. I loved every second of it! I think it absolutely kept up with The Stranger and The Innocent, but it did something new and different as well! The mystery will keep you coming back for more, but this series has so much going for it and it is beyond worthy of your next watch!

Start the year off with an addicting thriller that will make you binge-watch to your heart’s content!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Elves” on Netflix: Holiday Horror Fun

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“Stay on the coastal road…”

Elves (originally titled Nisser) premiered on Netflix on November 28th 2021 with six episodes available to stream now. The Danish horror series stars Sonja Steen, Milo Campanale, Vivelill Søgaard Holm, Lila Nobel, Peder Pedersen and Ann Eleonora Jørgensen. Each episode runs for 23-26 minutes.

A family travels to a remote island for a Christmas vacation, soon discovering that the island is inhabited by dangerous elves.

Here is the trailer:

Elves immediately gives off a Gremlins sort of vibe embedded in folk horror. The short episodes make it extremely easy to binge-watch, but is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Short episodes.

I finished this series really quickly and the pacing was done really well in each of the six episodes. Even though they are on the short side, we get to cover enough to keep us coming back for more and I thought that this worked in the show’s favor.

Images courtesy of Netflix

Solid folk horror entry.

I dug the vibe of this series. There were a lot of horrifying things we witnessed, but it was also balanced out with an adorable scene stealer named Kee-Ko. Seriously, I’m obsessed! The setting really highlighted the eerie feel and there was also plenty of gore and chilling moments sprinkled into the mix.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Dumb decisions made…

The adults in this series really made a lot of the dumb decisions or were just completely clueless for too long.

I also just wanted more as soon as I got to the end. The short episodes worked, but I really hope that this show gets picked up for season two because now I’m hooked!

More please!

So am I in or out?

Spoiler-Free Review of “Hawkeye” on Disney+: An Enjoyable Watch

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I need a bow and arrow…”

Hawkeye premiered on Disney+ on November 24th 2021 with its first two episodes. There will be six episodes in total and the remaining ones will air weekly. The superhero action series stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Tony Dalton and Florence Pugh. Each episode runs for approximately 49-52 minutes.

Clint Barton finally gets his own story as he tries to deal with life after the Avengers, but he finds himself back in action when he crosses paths with a young woman named Kate Bishop.

Here is the trailer:

Hawkeye brings us another superhero series to binge-watch, allowing Clint a true chance to shine, but does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Disney+

A dynamic duo worth getting excited about!

Hailee Steinfeld is honestly strong enough to carry this show on her own. I already love the character of Kate Bishop and I think that she brings a quirky charm to the role. I think that her and Jeremy Renner make an excellent team and I loved the interaction and banter between them.

More please!

Images courtesy of Disney+

Good balance of humor and action.

It’s not always easy finding this balance and Hawkeye does it so effortlessly. There were so many laugh-out-loud moments sprinkled in, which was really entertaining and there is already a scene stealer you will absolutely adore.

So far the action sequences are good too and I think that the pacing is done extremely well. I didn’t even realize when an episode was over because I was fully immersed in my watch.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Disney+

The kids need something to do…

I get that Clint is a family man and I loved seeing his kids appear on the show so far, but they really need something to do. His daughter is only a little bit younger than Kate and I’d love to see them show off their own heroic potential but perhaps we will get to see them more in the later episodes.

There just seems to be a lot of possibility brewing here so I’d love to see it explored a little bit more.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Disney+

I’m in!

This was such an entertaining watch so far and I can’t wait to see what happens next! I love the dynamic between the characters and the plot is really interesting too.

I highly recommend this series to Marvel fans, but even if you haven’t seen all of the films, you won’t feel lost watching this show. It’s truly a delight!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Hellbound” on Netflix: Horrifying and Addicting!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“We have to be more righteous…”

Hellbound premiered on November 19th 2021 on Netflix, brought to us from the director of Train to Busan. The South Korean horror drama series consists of six episodes available to stream now. The show stars Yoo Ah-in, Kim Hyun-joo, Park Jung-min and Won Jin-A. Each episode runs for approximately 50-60 minutes.

Sinners are condemned to be dragged to Hell on a specific day and time, as unearthly creatures come to capture their bounty as the rest of the world watches in horror and attempts to follow The New Truth society to become more righteous.

Here is the trailer:

Hellbound may be one of the most disturbing and gripping things I have ever watched as it takes a relentless fear and shows us how dangerous belief can be in the wrong hands. Is it worthy of your next binge-watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Takes on a fear that may be the most terrifying of all…

While there are plenty of monsters and gore, the most terrifying part of this series is how it reveals just how dangerous humanity and misguided faith can be in the wrong hands. The acts we witness are brutal and terrifying in a very real way. Extreme measures and things we cannot explain can lead to panic and it’s the real acts of violence and hate we see everyday that create a new kind of fear that cannot be quelled, which made this such a compelling watch.

Worthy characters.

It took a while to get going, but I had some favorite characters in this series who really gave it their all. Some represented hope while others represented the opposite side of the spectrum, but there were so many different emotions stirred during my watch and part of that was because of these wonderful portrayals.

Easy to binge-watch.

I loved that there were only six episodes in this series. This show could have easily dragged out with sub-plots and unnecessary fluff, but it managed to stay on track even with a time jump wedged in the middle. The pacing was done really well and I managed to watch all six episodes over the weekend.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Messy start.

The opening episode was slightly all over the place and kind of confusing. I wasn’t really sure about continuing with the series, but once I reached episode two, I couldn’t stop watching. That being said, the chaotic plot could have been cleaned up a little bit more in the opening episode to draw viewers in even more.

If you’re thinking of passing on the show after the first episode, I highly recommend that you stick around for more, however.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Netflix

I’m in 100 percent!

This show is the definition of a binge-watcher’s dream. I could not stop watching it and I was completely drawn into the plot. I was terrified, I was shocked, and I was even emotionally changed by the end, revealing just how complex and moving this show was.

If you’re looking for a new kind of horror, I highly recommend this show!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Hellbound in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Wheel of Time” on Prime Video: Lord of the Rings-esque Fantasy is actually pretty Addicting

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“The world is broken…”

The Wheel of Time premiered on November 19th 2021 on Prime Video. There will be eight episodes in total. The first three are available to stream now and the remaining ones will air weekly. The fantasy action series stars Rosamund Pike, Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski, Barney Harris, Zoe Robins and Marcus Rutherford. Each episode runs for approximately 55-60 minutes.

A powerful magical woman named Moiraine tracks down a group of five teens, revealing that one of them is destined to become the reincarnation of the Dragon, which could ultimately save or destroy the world.

Here is the trailer:

The Wheel of Time may initially seem like a placeholder for shows like The Witcher and Shadow and Bone, but it manages to find its own identity. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Prime Video

Rosamund Pike lights up the screen.

Even though we get plenty of characters to focus on, Rosamund Pike is the best part of the show. There is a lot of talk about the power of women and she really embodies that completely. More please!

There is potential with some of the other characters as well, which is promising, but I’m all for a strong female lead and so far she is delivering.

Images courtesy of Prime Video

Stunning visuals and worthy fight sequences.

The setting and visuals in this show are really so well done. I lost myself within the setting and I thought that it channeled Lord of the Rings in a good way. The fight sequences were actually really great too. I was worried that I was going to fall asleep watching this show and somehow I found myself binge-watching the first three episodes back-to-back.

Each episode has a fantastic ending that will leave you hitting play immediately. I honestly can’t wait to find out what happens next!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Prime Video

The supporting characters need some work…

I didn’t read the book series, but I would like these characters to be fleshed out a lot more. We’ve gotten some glimmers of their purpose and potential, but I need to actually care about what happens to them. I’m hopeful that we will get there within the next few episodes, but I don’t want to gloss over character development because it’s important.

I also think this show could benefit from some well-placed humor here and there. Shows like GOT and The Witcher understood how to lighten up the mood sometimes and even though I was thoroughly entertained with The Wheel of Time, it felt a little heavy at times and some of the dialogue was borderline atrocious.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Prime Video

I’m in!

I went into this show thinking I was going to get a Game of Thrones rip-off and instead I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this show. It has a lot going on and it needs some improvements, but so far it has managed to captivate my undivided attention and I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Yellowjackets” on Showtime: Your Next Obsession has Arrived!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“So what do you think really happened out there?”

Yellowjackets premiered on November 14th 2021 on Showtime. The series will feature ten weekly episodes. It stars Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Ella Purnell and Sammi Hanratty. Each episode runs for approximately 53-55 minutes.

On their way to nationals, a female high school soccer team survives a plane crash in the middle of the wilderness. Years later, they try to cope with the horrific events that took place after the crash.

Here is the trailer:

Yellowjackets effectively blends several genres together, leading us into a twisted mystery with a great cast and a disturbing plot. Does it do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Showtime

Does plenty to bring you back for more!

Even though there was a lot of set-up in the first episode, it did a really good job of reeling the audience in right from the start. We see glimpses of several dark and disturbing moments in the past that left me wanting more immediately. I’m so anxious to explore the mystery surrounding these characters and I am completely hooked!

Images courtesy of Showtime

All-star cast!

I expected fantastic things from Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci and Melanie Lynskey, but even their younger selves are stealing the show. There is a lot of talent here and I’m so excited to see them all interact more.

Effectively blends genres and time jumps without making our heads spin…

There is a lot to process, but I thought that this show managed to effectively jump back and forth in time. One of my biggest cons with Cruel Summer was that I felt like my head was spinning with the constant time jumps even though I loved the mystery at the center.

Yellowjackets gets this right and I actually thought the past plot was a little more intriguing than the present, but I’m confident that everything will seamlessly connect, bringing us a story worth getting excited about.

I also thought that the blending of genres worked effortlessly. There is something dark and horrific going on, immediately giving me vibes of Alive and The Wilds, but there are also some sprinkles of Big Little Lies too which should make an interesting mash-up.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Showtime

A lot to keep track of…

The time jumps were effective in this series, but the pilot episode was jam-packed with so much. Don’t get me wrong…I absolutely loved all of it, but it was a lot to process and I felt like I needed a cheat sheet at times for certain things, but there’s still plenty of time to figure everything out in ten episodes.

So am I in or out?

I’m in 100 percent!

I’m so excited about this show and I can’t wait to see how things unfold!

The cast is out of this world, the past and the present both have compelling plots, and the dark secrets rooted in the past are so intriguing and I need to know more!

It’s safe to say that I am completely hooked and I think that you will be too!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Yellowjackets in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

This competition is killer…

When former friends, Shay and Adriana team up to participate in a Halloween scavenger hunt with a cash prize, they temporarily put their differences aside to outsmart their opponents. However, they soon start to realize that a dangerous threat is playing their own version of the game, stalking them during each hunt.

Winning is now a necessity as their lives are at stake. As old wounds and memories re-surface, Shay and Adriana attempt to unmask the threat before the night is over, but soon learn that Scream Hunt is not done with them just yet…

My new young adult horror thriller is out now! I hope you enjoy!
