Spoiler-Free Review of “Moon Knight” on Disney+: Bonkers but Intriguing!

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“There’s chaos in you…”

Moon Knight is a new mystery-action series inspired by the Marvel character. The series premiered on March 30th 2022 on Disney+ with the first episode available to stream now. There will be six episodes in total that will air weekly. Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, May Calamawy, Loic Mabanza and Gaspard Ulliel. Each episode runs for approximately 45-49 minutes.

Gift-shop employee, Steven Grant begins blacking out and learns that he is sharing bodies with a mercenary named Marc Spector, as they begin to investigate the mysteries behind the Egyptian gods.

Here is the trailer:

Moon Knight is completely crazy, but it works somehow, leaving the audience wanting more as we follow along on this new adventure. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Disney+

Oscar Isaac is a lot of fun to watch!

I already liked him as an actor but I think he is adapting seamlessly into this new role and there was even a lot of quirky humor that I appreciated. It’s important to like the unlikely hero of the story and so far I think we have a winner here.

Super interesting premise.

I don’t know about you, but I have always been fascinated by the stories of the Egyptian gods and this particular Marvel character is allowing us a chance to explore some of these mysteries even more. The opening of the first episode gave me some National Treasure and Night at the Museum vibes, which is a good thing. I think as long as it balances out the historical angle with some action, we should have a lot of entertaining content to enjoy. Fingers crossed!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Disney+

Not revealing too much…

I understand that maybe that’s the point, but with only six episodes, I wanted to know a lot more from the opening episode and we didn’t get too many answers. I’m willing to stick around to find out more, but I hope the series starts to reveal things soon.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

I may not really know what’s going on yet, but so far I am having a lot of fun watching this series and I can’t wait to find out more. I think we have lots of potential here!

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Girl From Plainville” on Hulu: Another Dramatized True Crime Entry

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I love you forever…”

The Girl From Plainville premiered on Hulu on March 29th 2022 with three episodes available to stream now. The remaining five episodes will air weekly. The drama series stars Elle Fanning, Colton Ryan, Chloë Sevigny, Cara Buono, and Kai Lennox. Each episode runs for approximately 44-49 minutes.

Based on the true story of Michelle Carter’s “texting-suicide” case, we learn about the relationship between Michelle and Conrad and the events leading up to his death.

Here is the trailer:

The Girl From Plainville brings us another dramatized true crime entry, which seems to be the latest trend on streaming services, but does this one do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Hulu

Moving performances by Fanning and Ryan.

Much like some of the other dramatized true crime stories I have been watching, this one features incredible portrayals and performances. Everything just seemed real and believable. It’s not always easy showing the audience this side when dealing with a story that the whole world is familiar with, but I thought the actors really gave it their all.

An interesting story.

Even though I know about this case, I was still intrigued while watching this series. I think the show did a good job of pulling the audience in with important moments and details that were worth exploring.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Hulu

Super heavy content…

Viewers should absolutely pay attention to the advisory warnings at the beginning of each episode. There is a lot of sensitive content and the show could be emotionally draining at times. This slowed down the pace a little bit. The time jumps were also a little bit confusing. A documentary was released back in 2019 dealing with the same case so I’m not sure you’ll find anything that new in this dramatized version, but it still has its moments and the pacing improved for me as the episodes continued.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Hulu

I’m in about 75 percent…

The series is highlighting an interesting story and the performances are truly moving. I’m not sure that the show is showing us anything truly new or different from the actual events but there is enough content here to keep me coming back for more.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on The Girl From Plainville in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” on Demand: “You were almost a Jill Sandwich.”

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“There’s something seriously wrong with this place…”

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City released in theaters back in November 2021 and is currently available to stream on demand. Based on the popular video game series, the action-horror film stars Kaya Scodelario, Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Hannah John-Kamen and Avan Jogia. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.

After plenty of films, we now get a prequel/reboot with Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, as a group tries to survive the night when all hell breaks loose thanks to the Umbrella Corporation.

Here is the trailer:

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City attempts to follow the actual story-lines from the first two games, but does it bring anything truly necessary to the franchise? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Sony Pictures Entertainment

Brings the game to life.

This entry to the Resident Evil franchise does a decent job of bringing the story-lines from the first two games to life, following the timeline and giving fans the chance to recognize plenty of scenes and settings. I thought this was the film’s strongest point and was the only thing that really set it apart from the other films. I liked all of the Easter eggs and thought the film put forth a valiant effort here.

Fun cast.

We got an entirely new cast this time around but I thought they did a good job and I liked a lot of the actors. I think they tried their best with what they were given and it was easy to root for some of them.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Sony Pictures Entertainment

Unnecessary flashbacks…

I don’t really remember any of this from the games but I guess the writers behind the film felt the need to give our main character a backstory to further its plot along, but it felt like excess fluff and I’m not really sure that it did too much for the overall story.

Did we really need another Resident Evil movie?

My biggest con is that the film didn’t really do anything that unique or different. I appreciate that it tried to bring fans the “gamer” angle, but I much prefer the original films. This has been done before and it felt stale at times. The scares didn’t have the same impact on me because I knew what to expect, but it wasn’t a bad movie. It just wasn’t really necessary in my opinion.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Sony Pictures Entertainment

I’m 50/50 on this one…

The film wasn’t a complete dud and it had a fun cast and some cool moments for fans of the game. That being said, it didn’t really do anything truly extraordinary to earn a rightful place in the franchise. I think I’ll go re-watch Resident Evil: Apocalypse now…

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Studio 666” on Demand: Rockin out with the Devil

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“This place is to die for…”

Studio 666 released in theaters on February 25th 2022. It is now currently available to watch on digital demand. The horror comedy film stars Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, Taylor Hawkins, Rami Jaffee, Leslie Grossman, Jenna Ortega, Whitney Cummings and Will Forte. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.

The Foo Fighters attempt to make their 10th album and decide to stay at a mansion in California that has been linked to some violent deaths as they quickly realize that there may be a supernatural presence lurking on the property.

Here is the trailer:

Studio 666 is a lot of fun, bringing us a horror comedy that channels films like The Evil Dead while creating something new of its own. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Open Road Films

B movie horror fun!

This film recognizes what it is and just goes with it in the best way possible. It is one of those movies you might see airing late at night on TV, but it quickly draws you in with great humor, music, and gory/silly horror fun to keep you entertained. I love movies like this and Studio 666 is a great entry into the horror comedy genre.

Images courtesy of Open Road Films

Great ensemble!

It was cool seeing the members of Foo Fighters in this film, but there were plenty of awesome co-stars and cameos that were amazing as well. I love Jenna Ortega and Leslie Grossman so it was nice to see them in this. I thought everyone put forth a valiant effort with their performances.

I’m also so incredibly saddened to hear the news about the passing of Taylor Hawkins. I heard the news just one day after watching this film. It is truly devastating. He was a great entertainer and I hope everyone checks this film out because you get to see another side of him.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Open Road Films

Cheesy effects.

This isn’t really a con because I accept this film as a B movie horror comedy so you’re going to see a lot of over-the-top cheesy gory effects that are kind of ridiculous. As long as you embrace how ridiculous it is, you’ll enjoy your watch that much more. Just don’t expect anything truly terrifying…

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

Ridiculous, hilarious, and over-the-top horror comedy magic! I had so much fun watching this one and I think that fans everywhere will be really entertained by both the music and the film.

Spoiler-Free Review of “X” in Theaters: Sex and Gore Galore with a Killer Soundtrack

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“You know what they say about too much of a good thing…”

X  released in theaters on March 18th 2022. The slasher horror film stars Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, Kid Cudi, Martin Henderson, and Owen Campbell. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.

Set in 1979, a group of actors head out to rural Texas to shoot an adult film. However, when their hosts catch them in the act, they find themselves fighting for their lives.

Here is the trailer:

pays homage to classic films like Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Jaws while creating something wild, entertaining, and delightfully disturbing on its own. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of A24

Visually stunning with an amazing soundtrack!

This film really transported me back in time and the musical soundtrack complimented it so well. I also loved the camera effects and the use of lighting. There were so many shocking and horrifying moments during this film and everything was elevated that much more by the visual and sound effects.

This film took my breath away in the best way possible!

Images courtesy of A24

Creepy AF!

This movie was so creepy and disturbing. There was plenty of gore, but the horror went well beyond that. My skin was crawling during certain scenes and I was genuinely freaked out by what I was watching. This film did a great job of embracing the slasher genre while pushing the envelope that much more with its uncensored content.

So much fun!

There’s already such a close and wonderful relationship between sex and horror films and X took it one step further. I loved the film within a film and the actors did a fantastic job with every aspect of their portrayal. Don’t think about things too much. Just enjoy the film and you’ll love it that much more!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of A24

Takes a little while to get going…

I wouldn’t say that this was a major con, but the pacing was a little sluggish in the beginning. Once things took a turn for the disturbing, I was all in but it did take a little while to get there.

So am I in or out?

I’m in 100 percent!!!!!

Creepy AF and so much fun! I was so excited to watch this movie and I can happily say that it lived up to the hype and then some! If you enjoy slasher and horror films, you will feel right at home with this one. Enjoy it!

Spoiler-Free Review of “DMZ” on HBO Max: Rosario Dawson takes on a Dystopian world

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“People at their worst…”

DMZ premiered on March 17th 2022 on HBO Max with all four episodes available to stream now. Based on the graphic novel, the action-drama series stars Rosario Dawson, Benjamin Bratt, Hoon Lee, Mamie Gummer, and Freddy Miyares. Each episode runs for approximately 58-60 minutes.

After a civil war breaks out in the United States, a medic searches for her long-lost son in a very dangerous New York City.

Here is the trailer:

DMZ has a strong female lead and a story with heart, but is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

DMZ Spoiler Free 1

Images courtesy of HBO Max

Rosario Dawson puts forth a valiant effort.

I really like Rosario Dawson as an actress and she is probably the main reason why I tuned into this series. I thought that she was really believable and it was easy to root for her. Even though I have seen this type of story/journey before, I think that she brought a lot of layers to her character.

The personal angle worked.

I am not too familiar with the graphic novel, but I liked that there was a lot of heart in this series. The emotional journey kept me invested until the end and there were a lot of other characters with compelling backstories as well. It was a little depressing at times, but there were some real moments sprinkled in that worked.

The Cons:

DMZ Spoiler Free 2

Too many things going on…

This series felt really rushed. I understand that it had some setbacks during the pandemic, but it needed more episodes to really flesh things out. There were a lot of interesting concepts but we didn’t get enough time to explore things properly.

I also wanted to know more about the dystopian world, but there was so much jam-packed into four episodes, which was really overwhelming at times.

So am I in or out?

DMZ Spoiler Free 3

I’m in about 75 percent…

I love Rosario Dawson in pretty much anything and I think she really elevated this series. There’s a lot of good content here, but it’s also a plot I’ve seen a hundred times before and I’m not sure it did anything that new or unique.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on DMZ in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Deep Water” on Hulu: Erotic Thriller has its moments

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“Do you know I love you?”

Deep Water premiered on March 18th 2022 on Hulu. Based on the novel of the same name, the erotic thriller stars Ben Affleck, Ana de Armas, Finn Wittrock and Lil Rel Howery. It runs for approximately an hour and fifty-five minutes.

A husband allows his wife to have affairs, but winds up being the prime suspect when her lovers suddenly go missing…

Here is the trailer:

Deep Water is brought to us from the same director of Fatal Attraction and Unfaithful, attempting to find another Gone Girl gem, but does this film do enough to earn a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Hulu

Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck are magnetic on screen.

I really like Ana de Armas as an actress and she can play crazy really well. I thought both actors did a good job with their portrayals. Both characters were far from normal and yet they still had a lot of chemistry between them, which made the film more entertaining.

Picks up steam as things progress.

The movie was a little on the long side for me. Normally I expect these soapy erotic thrillers to run around 90 minutes, but once the plot started to advance, things got really intense and the scenes leading up to the ending had me on the edge of my seat.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Hulu

Tries too hard to be the next Gone Girl

Even though Ben Affleck did a good job in this, I couldn’t get this comparison out of my head and even though the films are very different, it felt like it was trying to live up to this hype. I also was looking for a crazy twist or reveal to really make my head spin and things played out in a predictable way for the most part.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Hulu

I’m in about 75 percent…

If you like soapy-Lifetime-esque thrillers, you’ll enjoy this one on a rainy Saturday evening. There are some intense moments embedded into this film that were actually done really well, but I wanted a little bit more overall. Either way, it was an enjoyable watch for the most part.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Deep Water in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Windfall” on Netflix: Offbeat Sunshine Noir

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“This does not seem random to me…”

Windfall premiered on Netflix on March 18th 2022. The noir thriller film stars Jason Segel, Lily Collins, and Jesse Plemons. It runs for approximately 90 minutes.

A man breaks into a billionaire’s expensive home, but things take a turn for the worse when the homeowners return sooner than expected.

Here is the trailer:

Windfall brings us a sunshine noir style with a fantastic cast, but is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Windfall Spoiler Free 1

Lots of style!

Even though we can assume the film takes place during modern day, I instantly felt like I was being transported back in time. The musical score, the use of color, and even the introduction of the credits in the opening scene made me feel like I was watching an old movie with a Hitchcockian style.

Windfall Spoiler Free 2

Not your average thriller…

I guess I was getting used to the guilty-pleasure thrillers releasing on Netflix, but this film really surprised me in a good way. Things were slightly odd and strange, but this film was very different and I think that helped set it apart from your average thriller.

A great cast and a shocking ending!

I absolutely loved the interaction between the characters and I thought I knew where this film was going, but it actually really shocked me with its ending, which made me like it that much more.

The Cons:

Windfall Spoiler Free 3

Wavering identity…

The film started to switch genres here and there, which was slightly confusing at times. I didn’t know if this was supposed to be a thriller or a comedy. I don’t mind when films blend genres together, but I think that the film felt a little unsure of itself at times. Once things really started to get going, it eventually found its way.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Lies and Deceit” on Netflix: Engrossing and Intense

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“I’m not imagining it…”

Lies and Deceit (Mentiras) released on Netflix on March 4th 2022 with all six episodes available to stream now. The Spanish drama-thriller series stars Ángela Cremonte, Javier Rey, Itziar Atienza and Manuela Velasco. Each episode runs for approximately 48-50 minutes.

A teacher accuses a surgeon of date rape while he denies the allegations, causing both of their lives to spiral out of control.

Lies and Deceit will remind you very much of Netflix’s Unbelievable. Is it worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

A gripping story…

I was pulled in right away on this one. The story was emotional and powerful. The series also did a good job of keeping the audience guessing. It was hard to know who to believe at first and as the story continued, I was completely captivated by what I was watching.

A satisfying ending.

I thought that this series really built up to some extremely intense moments. At one point I was yelling at my screen because I was so involved. Series like these often have trouble with the ending and I was left completely satisfied with this one. I think it wrapped everything up and it answered the questions I had.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Heavy and slow at times…

Much like Unbelievable, this series centers around sensitive content. At times, it was emotionally draining and I needed to be in the right state of mind while watching this. I also thought the side plot was not really necessary. It took away from the main one and it also made the episodes last longer than they needed to. I think that the series built enough momentum to keep me invested until the end and I had to see what happened, but it needed a few minor pacing tweaks.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

Lies and Deceit told an important and gripping story. It kept me glued to the screen the entire time, leading up to a satisfying conclusion.

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Adam Project” on Netflix: Family Friendly Time Travel Adventure

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Time travel exists…you just don’t know it yet.”

The Adam Project premiered on March 11th 2022 on Netflix. The sci-fi action film stars Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner, Zoe Saldaña, Mark Ruffalo, Catherine Keener and Braxton Bjerken. It runs for an hour and forty-five minutes.

A time traveling pilot named Adam travels back to the year 2022 and recruits his twelve year old self to help him with his mission.

Here is the trailer:

The Adam Project is very much Back to the Future meets Flight of the Navigator with a talented cast and some heartfelt moments sprinkled in. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Genuine moments.

I actually really liked the heartfelt moments in this one. This was a story about family relationships in a lot of ways and I think that when the film took the time to actually develop these bonds, it found its strength. The performances were all genuine and Jennifer Garner really did a great job with her portrayal in particular.

Flashy entertainment.

There’s enough action to keep you invested and the movie is under two hours which helped as well. There are some flashy effects embedded into the fight scenes that make this an entertaining ride for the younger generation in particular.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Netflix

Not a lot of originality…

The film takes the time to make references to some time traveling films but it doesn’t really manage to do anything unique to set itself apart from them. It just felt like a mashup of all of them, which was slightly disappointing.

I also thought there was a lot of set-up in the beginning and the majority of the humor did not land for me. A lot just seemed really forced and it almost felt like they were merely phoning it in for this one…

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Netflix

I’m 50/50 on this one…

This is a family friendly film and it checks off a lot of boxes you expect to see in a time travel action film, but I just wanted a lot more from it.
