*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“If the evil touches you, it makes you do bad things…”

Never Let Go released in theaters on September 20th 2024 and is now available to watch on Demand as of October 11th 2024. The psychological thriller horror film stars Halle Berry, Percy Daggs IV, and Anthony B. Jenkins. It runs for approximately an hour and forty minutes.

A mother and two sons live alone in the woods when an evil takes over the world. The only way to survive is to stay connected to their house at all times to stop the evil from reaching them, but when one of the sons begins to question if the evil is real or not, their lives are put in danger.

Here is the trailer:

Never Let Go has some creepy and shocking moments built in to its plot, but does it do enough to be worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Welcome back to horror, Halle Berry!

I loved her in the film, Gothika and it was great to see her in another horror film. Halle Berry is such an exceptional actress and she always puts forth a believable and compelling energy, elevating whatever project she’s in. I thought she was terrific in this one.

The actors who played her sons did a solid job as well and I was very pleased to discover that Percy Daggs IV is the son of Percy Daggs III (Wallace from Veronica Mars). The talent definitely runs in the family!

Keeps you guessing.

While I’m still not sure how I feel about a lot of the reveals, this film definitely kept me guessing. I was intrigued to find out more and there were lots of twists and turns along the way. There were some creepy moments working in this film’s favor. It didn’t scare me at all and a lot felt watered down, but the overall vibe was certainly interesting.

The Cons:

Super slow pacing.

This was frustrating because this film had so much potential. It felt like it was three hours long. Everything just really dragged.

I also had so many unanswered questions by the time I got to the end of the film. I’m fine with the ending, but we were given several pieces of the puzzle early on that were never addressed.

So am I in or out?

I’m 50/50 on this one…

Never Let Go is excruciatingly slow, but it does throw in a few twists to keep us invested. Plus, Halle Berry gives it her all, which we always LOVE to see!

I personally liked Arcadian a lot better, which had a similar vibe, but there were a few sprinkles of potential here.

Arcadian is a solid monster flick, channeling A Quiet Place and No One Will Save You, but does it do enough to be worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Impressive monsters!

I’m not exactly sure what they were, but they were creepy AF! They may give me a few nightmares for sure. I’ve seen my fair share of monster flicks, but I really was genuinely impressed by their design. There were some really freaky moments sprinkled into this one, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Solid second half.

The pacing was a little off for the first half of the film, but the second half picked things up and then some. Wow, that was insane! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and was rooting for these characters against all odds.

The Cons:

A lot of unanswered questions…

I didn’t need this film to be longer than it was and I liked the simple approach, but I needed a little bit more information here to fully invest. I also thought the film started off a little slow, but it did redeem itself in the end.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

Arcadian has some genuinely creepy moments and who doesn’t love seeing Nicolas Cage put up a good fight?

If you’re looking for a quick horror flick to fill your weekend, this one fits the bill.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Arcadian in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
