*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“If the evil touches you, it makes you do bad things…”

Never Let Go released in theaters on September 20th 2024 and is now available to watch on Demand as of October 11th 2024. The psychological thriller horror film stars Halle Berry, Percy Daggs IV, and Anthony B. Jenkins. It runs for approximately an hour and forty minutes.

A mother and two sons live alone in the woods when an evil takes over the world. The only way to survive is to stay connected to their house at all times to stop the evil from reaching them, but when one of the sons begins to question if the evil is real or not, their lives are put in danger.

Here is the trailer:

Never Let Go has some creepy and shocking moments built in to its plot, but does it do enough to be worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Welcome back to horror, Halle Berry!

I loved her in the film, Gothika and it was great to see her in another horror film. Halle Berry is such an exceptional actress and she always puts forth a believable and compelling energy, elevating whatever project she’s in. I thought she was terrific in this one.

The actors who played her sons did a solid job as well and I was very pleased to discover that Percy Daggs IV is the son of Percy Daggs III (Wallace from Veronica Mars). The talent definitely runs in the family!

Keeps you guessing.

While I’m still not sure how I feel about a lot of the reveals, this film definitely kept me guessing. I was intrigued to find out more and there were lots of twists and turns along the way. There were some creepy moments working in this film’s favor. It didn’t scare me at all and a lot felt watered down, but the overall vibe was certainly interesting.

The Cons:

Super slow pacing.

This was frustrating because this film had so much potential. It felt like it was three hours long. Everything just really dragged.

I also had so many unanswered questions by the time I got to the end of the film. I’m fine with the ending, but we were given several pieces of the puzzle early on that were never addressed.

So am I in or out?

I’m 50/50 on this one…

Never Let Go is excruciatingly slow, but it does throw in a few twists to keep us invested. Plus, Halle Berry gives it her all, which we always LOVE to see!

I personally liked Arcadian a lot better, which had a similar vibe, but there were a few sprinkles of potential here.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Spin the Bottle” on Demand: A Game Gone Wrong We’ve Seen Before

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I have a great game for us to play…”

Spin the Bottle released on Demand on October 4th 2024. The supernatural horror film stars Tanner Stine, Kaylee Kaneshiro, Ali Larter, and Justin Long. It runs for approximately two hours and five minutes.

Years after a brutal massacre, a group of teens play spin the bottle and accidentally release an evil entity that targets them all one by one.

Here is the trailer:

Spin the Bottle is the latest film to take a party game and turn it into something sinister. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Make way for horror royalty!

Justin Long and Ali Larter are no strangers to horror and it was great to see them show up in this film. I just wish they got a little more screen time! Justin Long elevates whatever he’s in and definitely helped this film out a little bit. Things felt very serious, but he had a few moments to lighten the mood.

A premise with potential.

Sure, the games gone wrong for teens theme has been done a million times, but it’s a guilty pleasure genre that I enjoy and I thought this one had some serious potential. There was definitely some 2000’s horror nostalgia here. If you enjoyed the recent film, Tarot, this flick had a similar vibe.

The Cons:

Way too long…

This movie was just over two hours long, which was completely unnecessary. Films like this should be no more than 90 minutes. The pacing was slow at certain points and I really had to power through a lot. Some of the dialogue was terrible (although I kind of expected that) and this film didn’t present us with anything new in this genre.

I’ve seen this movie a million times before and executed a lot better.

So am I in or out?

I’m 50/50 on this one…

Spin the Bottle had potential to shine as a b-horror film with some familiar faces, but it failed to do anything that new or exciting.

We don’t need to make every party game into a horror movie…although I’ll probably keep watching them!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Spin the Bottle in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
