Spoiler-Free Review of “Cruel Summer” Season 2 on Freeform: The Dangerous Secrets Return

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“You coming here has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me…”

Cruel Summer season two premiered on Freeform on June 5th 2023 (episodes also stream on Hulu) with the first two episodes. The series is set to air ten weekly episodes. It stars Sadie Stanley, Lexi Underwood, Griffin Gluck, and KaDee Strickland. Each episode runs for approximately 46-48 minutes.

The events we witness take place over one year from 1999-2000, involving a new set of characters and a new murder mystery to untangle.

Here is the trailer:

Cruel Summer is back and presents us with another mystery told from two perspectives across different timelines, but does it pack the same punch as the first season? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Freeform

Likable characters for the most part…

I’m not sure that anyone can outshine Jeanette and Kate from season one, but so far I like the characters of Megan and Isabella and I think the actresses are doing a good job with their portrayals. The friendship is a lot different this time around and so are the circumstances, which will make things feel fresh and new…even though it’s an already familiar premise.

I’m not a huge fan of the character of Luke, but I didn’t really like that actor on Locke & Key either so maybe that’s why. The other supporting characters aren’t really adding too much to the series yet. We need another Mallory to really shake things up…

I’m hopeful that we’ll get there.

The soundtrack is on point!

Similar to season one, season two is doing a solid job of bringing us back in time with some fantastic music. From Sugar Ray to Lit to The Spice Girls! The show is channeling this time well and I’m looking forward to the rest of the soundtrack in the remaining episodes. Some movie references would be nice too!

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Freeform

The mystery needs more edge.

Cruel Summer season one was so addicting and I had so many working theories throughout my watch, which made it a lot of fun. While we have lots of drama and scandal in season two, the mystery just feels kind of lukewarm. We need a lot more to live up to season one.

The time jumps are trippy once again and maybe even more so this time around. They also feel a little rushed since this series takes place over one year rather than three summers.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Freeform

I’m in about 75 percent…

Cruel Summer season two has some potential and is doing just enough to lure me back for more, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the mystery in season one.

Either way, it should make a fun summer watch to indulge in!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Cruel Summer (season two) in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Spoiler-Free Review of “The Watchful Eye” on Freeform: Guilty Pleasure Gold

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“I know what it’s like…”

The Watchful Eye premiered on Freeform on January 30th 2023 with the first two episodes. There will be eight episodes in total that will air weekly and each episode is available to stream on Hulu the next day. The mystery thriller series stars Mariel Molino, Amy Acker, Warren Christie, and Kelly Bishop. Each episode is approximately 45-48 minutes.

A young woman with a secretive past accepts a job as a live-in nanny for a wealthy family in Manhattan, where everyone has something to hide.

Here is the trailer:

The Watchful Eye is a delightful mix of Jane Eyre and Gossip Girl with fantastic twists that will have you hooked from the start. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Images courtesy of Freeform

Amazing twists!

This series did not waste any time at all! It hooked me immediately and already presented us with some insane twists that may seem completely bonkers, but they’re working. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I was thrown for a loop in the best way possible and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

It’s safe to say that this series is already so addicting, falling nicely into the guilty pleasure thriller genre. Love it!

Images courtesy of Freeform

Killer concept.

The series is not that original. It’s basically Only Murders in the Building without the quirky humor, but I love the upper east side edge (similar to Gossip Girl) and Amy Acker is already stealing the show as the Queen Bee of the apartment. I’m so happy to see her in this!

I think our lead is also very likable and she definitely has a few tricks up her sleeve as well so I will not be underestimating her.

I love the setting and the focus on the residents as potential suspects. I’m looking forward to figuring this one out each week.

The Cons:

Images courtesy of Freeform

Over-stuffs the premiere with too many characters…

I liked a lot of the characters, but I had a little trouble keeping up. I just think that way too many people were introduced in the premiere and it was already jam-packed enough as it is.

There is also some typical soapy melodrama to deal with, but I’ve come to expect that now with these types of shows.

So am I in or out?

Images courtesy of Freeform

I’m in!!!

The Watchful Eye is my new addiction!

It has everything I could possibly want in a guilty pleasure thriller and more! I’m intrigued!

Predictions for the “Cruel Summer” Season Finale: Who is Annabelle?

Happy Monday TV Fans! As we approach the season finale of Cruel Summer, there is quite a lot I want to see, but will we be able to answer all of our questions or will there be more of the mystery left to uncover?

**Please note spoilers are ahead if you are not caught up with this series.**

Cruel Summer has quickly become one of my favorite shows to premiere this year and even though the trippy time jumps may have your head spinning here and there, the mystery is a good one and I have had so many theories and questions about this particular show.

Just when you think you have it all figured out, the show throws you for a loop which reminds us that seeing things from each perspective is not always clear cut and sometimes there is a lot more to the truth.

So, what can we expect from the season finale?

Images courtesy of Freeform

Well, now that we have witnessed the events leading to Kate being locked up in the basement, we are going to be watching the trial between Kate and Jeanette. We know that Kate did have a relationship with Martin, but it did escalate into something truly horrific and my heart does go out to her.

We now understand how Jeanette’s necklace showed up at the house, but Kate seems still pretty convinced that Jeanette saw her and that wasn’t evident at all from the flashbacks we witnessed.

The trial is probably going to have a lot of drama, but will we learn anything new?

I still have two major questions and I want some answers in the season finale.

Is Mallory hiding something?

Images courtesy of Freeform

Everything in my gut tells me that Mallory has a secret. I’m not exactly sure what her part is in this all, but maybe she saw more on that videotape than she is letting on…

Mallory lied to Jeanette about the snow globe, but what else does she know and can she be trusted at all?

Let’s talk about Annabelle…

Images courtesy of Freeform

The biggest question I have had has been around who Annabelle is. I have theories about it being another victim, part of Kate’s personality or part of Martin’s own issues, but I really hope that we finally get to explore the answer to this burning question because I think it has the potential to truly surprise the audience.

Don’t let us down!

Will there be another twist?

Images courtesy of Freeform

The series has only been approved for one season, but that doesn’t mean that Freeform won’t decide to bring it back for a second one, but what would actually happen in the second season?

We would need another shocking twist to bring us back for more and the only thing that comes to mind is perhaps Martin isn’t actually dead after all? Maybe Jeanette did actually see her?

I also think that one of the parents knows a lot more than they are saying or maybe there was another witness.

Honestly I don’t know, but I really like this show and would be happy to see another season only if we have more to the mystery left to uncover.

Stay tuned!

If you haven’t watched Cruel Summer yet, you can catch up now on Freeform and Hulu!

Feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Cruel Summer in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Checking in on “Cruel Summer” on Freeform: 5 Questions I’m Dying to Know the Answers to

Greetings TV Fans! Freeform’s Cruel Summer has really been picking up the pace lately and I’m excited to watch the final three episodes. While each episode shows us things from Jeanette and Kate’s perspectives, there are a lot of other characters jammed into the mix with potential secrets and motives.

I have a lot of questions and theories, but will we be able to answer them all by the end of the series?

**Please note spoilers are ahead if you are not caught up on the series.**

My top 5 questions I’m dying to know the answers to on Cruel Summer are:

5

Can Mallory be trusted?

Cruel Summer question 5

Images courtesy of Freeform

I’m still somewhere in the middle with the whole Kate vs. Jeanette debate, but how does Mallory fit into it all? I find it odd that she jumped sides and is now best friends with Kate, especially after she even admits that she used to hate her.

So, can we trust her?

I like Mallory a lot. I think she really brings a real and authentic quality to her character, but could she be the wild card making trouble?

It’s certainly possible and we still don’t really know why she and Jeanette stopped being friends.

The parents are also really suspect and Jeanette’s mom clearly has more secrets, but what else is she capable of?

I started to form some theories about Mallory after Jeanette talked about how Mallory wants to be in control and make everyone follow her ideas. When she left Jeanette high and dry after the CD incident, I started wondering more about her true intentions.

We’ll have to see how this plays out, but I always love a good twist!

4

How did Jeanette’s necklace end up with Kate?

Cruel Summer question 4

Images courtesy of Freeform

Jeanette claims the necklace found isn’t hers, but how did Kate wind up with it? Did Jeanette leave it behind while going through Martin’s house? Maybe Martin found it and gave it to Kate as a token of his weird love for her?

I don’t know, but things aren’t adding up. Mallory could also have a part in this too, but I think this piece of evidence should not be ignored.

3

Were Kate and Martin romantically involved?

Cruel Summer question 3

Images courtesy of Freeform

After that major reveal at the end of episode 7, we know that Kate went to Martin’s house willingly, which “changes everything,” according to Jeanette.

But we also witnessed Kate swooning over her stuffed animal and touching Martin’s hand, which gave out some signals. Sure, Martin should not take advantage of her period, but was there more to this relationship than we know?

If Jeanette thought that Kate was romantically involved with Martin (maybe she saw them previously together), she could have thought that Kate was cheating on Jamie with him and that could have caused her to flee the scene, but there is still a lot left to uncover here.

2

Did Jeanette actually see Kate?

Cruel Summer question 2

Images courtesy of Freeform

It’s the initial question we were presented with during this mystery, but I’m still kind of wondering about it myself. I saw this really interesting theory online about there being some kind of two-way mirror in Martin’s house and we did see Jeanette with mirrors in one of the flash-forwards. Maybe Kate did see Jeanette, but Jeanette never saw her?

I also still think it’s possible that maybe Jeanette thought Kate was doing wrong by Jamie, but Jeanette seemed like an innocent girl who was just trying to fit in. Even though we are presented with some serious Single White Female vibes, Jeanette seems more stable than that and I’m not sure that’s what is actually happening here.

But why is she hiding that key?

1

Who is Annabelle?

Cruel summer question 1

Images courtesy of Freeform

This is my number one question. After Kate’s creepy campfire story about a girl named Annabelle, she learns from her therapy tapes that she saw Annabelle before she was rescued, and she also has some serious memory loss.

The obvious answer is that Annabelle is a version of Kate and maybe she had a psychotic break, which would also explain the memory loss.

But I really want there to be more to this story. Maybe there really was an Annabelle. We know that another girl came forward about Martin from a different school. What if he was keeping more than one girl prisoner?

Maybe she helped Kate?

If we want to go with the split personality route, maybe Martin is Annabelle?

I have a lot of theories about this and I really hope we devote the time to this question because it is the most interesting part of the mystery for me.

We have three episodes left and a lot of questions that are still unanswered, but I’m excited to reveal more pieces of the puzzle.

Stay tuned, Cruel Summer fans!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Cruel Summer” on Freeform: Mean Girls with Bite

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“Who do you believe?”

Cruel Summer premiered on Freeform on April 20th 2021. The series is set to air ten weekly episodes. It stars Olivia Holt, Chiara Aurelia, Harley Quinn Smith, Michael Landes, and Froy Gutierrez. Each episode runs for approximately 50 minutes.

The events we witness take place over three summers in the 1990’s as a teen goes missing and another girl mysteriously takes her place.

Here is the trailer:

Cruel Summer adapts a typical teen thriller formula into something different by presenting us with three timelines that jump back and forth. It’s something bold and unique, but does it get in the way of this already entertaining plot? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Cruel Summer Spoiler Free Review 1

Images courtesy of Freeform

Mean Girls meets Single White Female.

Sure, it’s been done before, but this is a formula for success. I really loved this vibe and I was drawn into the plot and mystery completely. I can’t predict what is going on and I am actually really excited to see what happens next.

I also really like that I’m not sure who to root for just yet. The opening two episodes present us with different perspectives and of course things are not as they seem.

The performances are actually pretty on point and I thought that Kevin Smith’s daughter, Harley Quinn Smith was really great and I’m excited to see her in this role.

90’s nostalgia.

Much like Little Fires Everywhere, this show is also bringing us some 90’s nostalgia with the fashion and music soundtrack. I’m not sure it was truly necessary for this show, but it’s an added bonus and I am enjoying the throwback so far.

The Cons:

Cruel Summer Spoiler Free Review 3

Trippy time jumps.

While I appreciate that this show is trying to do something different, the trippy time jumps become really confusing and distracting. I actually think that the show is really good without these flashes every few minutes and while the actresses do a great job of reminding us which Jeanette and Kate we are dealing with, my head started to hurt after a while.

So am I in or out?

Cruel Summer Spoiler Free Review 4

I’m in!

Even with the trippy time jumps, this show is really addicting. I think that it might quickly become one of my favorite shows and I am really excited to see the mystery unfold over the next several weeks.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Dare Me” on USA Network: Dark Sensational Potential with Spirit Fingers

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“Cheerleading equals death,” according to Torrance’s hilarious younger brother in Bring It On and he may have been spot on when it comes to USA Network’s new teen drama.  Teenage girls can be dangerous, especially when the captain’s spot on her beloved squad is threatened, as secrets slither into the open, luring us into a promising slow burn thriller.

After watching the Pilot episode, the show already reminds me of Bring It On combined with some dark cult comedy greats like Heathers and Jawbreaker, which could be the formula for a fantastic new show.

Dare Me is based on the novel of the same name by Megan Abbott, following the plot of a cheerleader who seeks revenge on the squad that betrayed her.  The show premiered on the USA Network on December 29th 2019 and will feature 10 weekly episodes.  It stars Willa Fitzgerald (Scream), Marlo Kelly, Herizen Guardiola, Erika Prevost, and Taveeta Szymanowicz.

The show seems like it may have been better suited for a slot on Freeform and a mid-season premiere can be problematic, but the show could be a diamond in the rough.

Does Dare Me do enough to capture our full attention in its Pilot episode?  Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Dare Me USA Network 1
Images courtesy of USA Network

Strong and interesting characters.

I am already a fan of Willa Fitzgerald and she is definitely making waves as the new coach of this cheerleading squad.  Marlo Kelly is also proving to be quite the scene stealer as the mean girl captain with a bitter sweet tooth for revenge.  More please!

Cheerleading can be brutal.

I absolutely love the concept of this show and we are immersed into a competitive world where these girls will do anything to be the one on top of the pyramid.  The dark and sadistic hints are enough to hold my attention, as we begin to explore the secrets leading up to some kind of unspeakable crime.

I have a lot of questions already, but that just means this show is doing a good job of keeping me invested so far.

The Cons:

Dare Me USA Network 2
Images courtesy of USA Network

Super long montages and lots of fluff.

The show is already coming across as a slow burn thriller, which means we will need to invest some time into it before we get any major reveals.  There is a lot of set-up in the pilot episode to really introduce everything, but I could have done without the numerous montages.  Seriously, it seemed like they were endless.

So am I in or out?

Dare Me USA Network 3
Images courtesy of USA Network

I’m in for now, but I’m not completely convinced as of yet.  The show has a lot of promise and potential to become something truly dark and magnificent, but I just need things to speed up slightly so that I don’t lose interest too quickly.

When a show airs weekly episodes, they need to do enough to keep viewers coming back and I think they have, but we need to keep up the pace and introduce more dark secrets involving this major crime to prevent us from losing interest.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Dare Me in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” season 1 episode 10: “Enter the Professor”

Greetings TV fans!  After watching Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars:  The Perfectionists season 1 episode 10 season finale, I learned that “just when everything’s going the way it’s supposed to,” something bad is bound to happen.  That is, if you attend Beacon Heights University.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Enter the Professor,” everyone is glad that the threat is over after Jeremy is taken away in an ambulance, but is it really over?  Meanwhile, Alison and Mona contemplate whether or not they should stay at Beacon Heights University, Dylan confronts a former bully, and Ava gets a surprise visitor.  My top 5 moments from Pretty Little Liars:  The Perfectionists  season 1 episode 10 season finale are:

5

“Some puzzles are just not meant to be solved.”

That may be true, but Mona is not about to give up that easily.  After it initially seems like the threat is over, Mona reveals to Alison that she never found out more about the list she discovered that connected several of our characters and Ray Hogadorn.  Mona always senses when there is more to the story, but Alison suggests that perhaps it really isn’t meant to be solved.  Only there are no coincidences when it comes to Rosewood or Beacon Heights University, as we are about to find out.  This town may “breed drama,” but it’s not always easy to leave that behind, especially when your past is filled with it.

4

“I’m keeping my job.”

After Mona is fired by Claire, she is ready to pack up and get a fresh start, but Mason is not going to let her walk out just yet, revealing a secret that changes everything.  Mona confronts Claire and tells her that she’s keeping her job and explains that she knows about how her and Mason “comforted each other” after Nolan’s death.  Gross.  Mona turns the tables on Claire, who agrees to reinstate Mona, which keeps our girl in Beacon Heights for now.  Only Claire is always watching so Mona better watch her back for sure.  Mona promises that the affair with Mason is over, but it’s clear that there are still unresolved feelings here.  As much as I ship these two together, I don’t want Mona to get in any further trouble with Claire.

3

“I am nothing like you.”

When Ava returns to her room, she discovers that her father is there waiting for her.  Ava is more than surprised to see him and he asks for his daughter’s help.  Ava is supposed to pick up some package for her father, which he claims will help make everything right, but Dana Booker is on to her and reveals how much her father has actually stolen and says that he is using her.  Ava connects the dots on her own and realizes what her father is up to.

She stands up for herself and refuses to turn over the information and her father tells her, “I’m sorry that I turned you into me.”  Ava remains strong here and says that she is nothing like him and ends up returning the funds that were stolen to Zach’s family, along with several other clients.  Dana seems impressed and I have to say that I am extremely proud of Ava’s actions here as well.  Ava clearly loves her father so much, but she also knows right from wrong and she makes a huge decision here.  I’m looking forward to seeing what she does next if we get a season two and I really hope we do!

2

“You can’t win the game if you don’t know the rules.”

After a somewhat uneventful start, our characters all receive invitations to the Crimson Society, which we learn is a rumored secret society on campus that can “make your dreams come true.”  Our group shows up, not really knowing what to expect and are shocked when the television screen in front of them shows Taylor shooting Jeremy and how they all covered it up.  Someone out there knows the truth and his or her name is…the professor!

The professor welcomes our characters to “the experiment, phase two” and we learn that he or she is the real person who killed Nolan, explaining that Jeremy was only doing surveillance, but he is not the real killer.  We know that there are always more twists and turns in the PLL world and this spin-off continues to carry on with that tradition.  The professor will be watching and our characters are about to be tested again.  It looks like we have a lot to learn about the professor, who must actually really be a professor on campus, as Zach greets him or her while bringing over an order.  Is it a professor we have already seen or someone new?  I can’t wait to find out!

1

“I’m afraid of…”

At the end of the episode, our characters are tasked with revealing their greatest fears.  Each character looks into the camera and reveals to the Professor this vulnerability.  Alison is afraid that she is too broken to be fixed, but I have been thoroughly impressed with Alison’s character growth and she has really come so far.  Plus, it will be interesting to see what she does next in the psychology department and the professor she is working for could be a suspect for sure.  Caitlin states that she is afraid of failure, but she takes a huge step by telling her mother that she wants to stay at Beacon Heights University and I know that she is capable of proving herself here.

Ava says that she is afraid of turning into her father, but she has already shown that she has a generous and good heart.  Dylan reveals that he is afraid of going home, but his talent is so incredible and it looks like his life may get even more complicated when his former bully reveals that he is gay as well.  Finally, our girl Mona does not disappoint when she says that she is afraid of never finding out who the Professor is, accepting this challenge.  What’s next for our characters?  We’ll have to stay tuned to find out so hopefully we get a season 2 renewal announcement soon!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Pretty Little Liars:  The Perfectionists in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” season 1 episode 9: “Live Together, Die Together”

Greetings TV fans!  After watching Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars:  The Perfectionists season 1 episode 9, I learned that “good people can make bad mistakes,” but “you can’t be defined by one mistake,” can you?  Well I’m not sure that attempted murder applies here, but you never know at Beacon University.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In Wednesday night’s episode, “Live Together, Die Together,” everyone gets ready for the Gala and dresses to the nines, but drama is never too far away.  Meanwhile, Taylor decides to go after Jeremy, but is she about to make a fatal mistake?  My top 5 moments from Pretty Little Liars:  The Perfectionists season 1 episode 9 are:

5

“We can leave together or we can say goodbye.”

In the beginning of the episode, we immediately flash to Caitlin and Jeremy.  Jeremy reveals to Caitlin, “You wanted him gone too,” meaning Nolan, but he doesn’t exactly confess to murder.  Jeremy is ready to get out of town and wants Caitlin to come with him, but he leaves the choice up to her.  Caitlin has a lot to process here, but it doesn’t seem like she can fully believe that Jeremy is capable of Nolan’s murder.  Is Jeremy confessing to something else or is he the mysterious killer we have been looking for?

4

“You’re terminated.”

Even though I ship Mona and Mason, I was worried in last week’s episode that someone might find out about the affair and use it against Mona and unfortunately this did happen.  While Mason is with Mona, he gets a message from Claire Hotchkiss.  Mona thinks this is slightly odd, but Mason explains that they have kept in touch after Nolan’s death.  The Mona we all know would have normally been ten steps ahead of Claire, but perhaps her feelings for Mason have been clouding her better judgment.

Claire puts “active surveillance” on Mason and discovers the affair.  She confronts Mona at the ball, who looked stunning in a red dress by the way, and terminates her.  Mona now realizes her huge mistake and tells Mason that she cannot see him anymore.  Is this truly the end for these two or will Mona find a way to make things right?

3

“Taylor’s stronger than you give her credit for.”

Alison continues to have Taylor’s back in this episode and even stands up to Claire for her.  However, perhaps Taylor is hiding more than Alison realizes.  Claire tells Alison that there are things she doesn’t know about Taylor.  Taylor later reveals that she created Beacon Guard when she was younger to keep people safe, but her mother found out and ended up using it, locking her out.  Is this the reason why Taylor has been targeted?  As the creator of the original Beacon Guard, she may possess knowledge and secrets that could be very dangerous in the wrong hands…but what if those wrongs hands belong to her mother?

2

“I believe in you.”

Even though things don’t exactly work out for Mona and Mason right now, love is still blooming in the air.  Dylan and Andrew have a sweet moment together, as Dylan finally plays, “A Song for Andrew,” to celebrate their anniversary.  I’m really glad he got the chance to play for him, as Dylan has been so stressed out about possibly being kicked out of school.  At the Gala, Andrew comes through and even has Dylan’s piece played before the entire audience, preventing Claire from having much say in kicking him out.  Go Andrew!

Later on, sparks also continue to fly between Ava and Zach.  Ava covers for Zach and tells him to go talk to the representative about his art, believing in his talent and in him, which was a really sweet moment.  Again, it’s really amazing to see the transformation of these characters, as something so horrible has also brought them all together, allowing them to inspire others and truly make a difference.  Let’s just hope this new “A” doesn’t ruin a good thing.

“He was getting away…”

At the end of the episode, our group gathers down at Caitlin’s meeting with Jeremy, determined to get to the bottom of everything.  Only Taylor has brought a gun with her and refuses to let Jeremy get away with murder.  Taylor shoots Jeremy and her friends immediately have her back, saying that he was running toward her, determined to protect Taylor no matter what.  Caitlin rushes over to Jeremy and is beyond heartbroken…only Jeremy may be alive after all.  What will he do now that Taylor has just taken a shot at him?  Is he truly the big bad or is there still another mystery player to unmask?  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” season 1 episode 8: “Act Normal Bitches”

Greetings TV fans!  After watching Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars:  The Perfectionists season 1 episode 8, I learned that you may think that you’re “in the circle, but you’ll never be in the circle.”  But being an outsider can be a dangerous thing, especially when everyone is a suspect.  So do you keep your friends close and your enemies closer or do you maintain your distance?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In Wednesday night’s episode, “Hook, Line and Booker,” romance is in the air, as Alison and Mona contemplate potential new relationships.  Meanwhile, Ava has some memories about her and Nolan and Caitlin begins to worry about Jeremy’s loyalty.  My top 5 moments from Pretty Little Liars:  The Perfectionists season 1 episode 8 are:

5

“Isn’t it funny how sometimes we become the thing that we hate?”

In this episode, Mona and Dana Booker continue to clash, as Mona sits down during a teachers’ mixer to get to know Dana a little better.  While Mona plays the game to perfection and asks the appropriate questions, Dana cuts right to the chase and starts asking Mona more about Alison and Nolan’s murder, proving that she has no time for chit-chat.  Mona doesn’t waver; however, as she continues to hold her ground, putting Dana in her place, but it’s only a matter of time before the gloves come off between these two.  My money is on Mona!

4

“Thank you for the dance…”

During the teachers’ mixer, Alison meets a language professor named Gabriel and the two of them seem to hit it off right away.  Alison even gets a private dance lesson with him and shows off some of her Dancing with the Stars skills.  See you’re not out of practice!  It seems like romance is in the air, but Alison learns that Gabriel has an open relationship with his wife and she is not about to get mixed up in any drama right now.  I have to say that I was really proud of Alison in this moment.  She is still clearly hurting over her divorce with Emily, but she makes the right decision here and walks away.  Plus, I’m sensing some major sparks between her and Taylor Hotchkiss…

3

“Nothing makes me happier than to see you happy.”

Ava continues to grow closer to Zach in this episode, but this brings up memories of Nolan, which initially makes her sad.  We see a sweet moment between Nolan and Ava on Christmas morning, revealing that perhaps he did have a good side after all.  Ava later remembers Nolan telling her that her being happy makes him happy and decides to move forward with Zach.  I’m not sure if they are end game or not, but it’s nice to see Ava smiling for once and she does have a terrific laugh.

2

“I can’t stop thinking about you…”

Now that Bad Bishop’s identity has been revealed, Mona realizes that they are not just playing chess anymore.  Mona makes the decision to walk away from Mason, as she is an advisor at the school, which makes things more than complicated.  However, Mason later knocks on her door and tells her that he can’t stop thinking about her, which leads to a passionate moment between these two.  I have to say that I think these two are really cute together and I would love to see Mona happy for once, but could Dana Booker use this against her if she finds out?  Watch your back, Mona.

1

“You shouldn’t have followed me…”

My major theory has been that Caitlin’s boyfriend, Jeremy, is perhaps the threat everyone has been so worried about and it seems like things may be leaning in that direction now.  Caitlin follows Jeremy and sees him disposing something, but she’s too far away to really get a good look.  Either way, there is something suspicious going on here, but Jeremy discovers Caitlin before she can walk away.  Jeremy tells her to get in the car, but what does this mean?  Has Caitlin just stumbled upon something dangerous?  It’s clear that Jeremy is up to no good, but let’s hope that Alison, Mona, and the rest of the gang can track her down before it’s too late.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” season 1 episode 7: “She’s not an A”

Greetings TV fans!  After watching Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars:  The Perfectionists season 1 episode 7, I learned that “you can’t will someone to be trustworthy,” but “if you’re honest, there are no wrong answers” when it comes to who you are.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In Wednesday night’s episode, “Dead Week,” Mona realizes that she is now a major player in the game, but is she ready to play?  Meanwhile, Alison comes clean with the group about Taylor and tries to get through to her.  My top 5 moments from Pretty Little Liars:  The Perfectionists season 1 episode 7 are:

5

“I wanted you to hear it from me first.”

In the beginning of the episode, Alison lets the group know that Taylor is really alive.  She knows that this news is about to be broadcasted all over the place and she thinks it is important to share it with Ava, Caitlin, and Dylan first.  She explains that Nolan knew and that he was trying to keep them safe.  We know that Taylor was running away from someone who was threatening her, so is the same person now threatening Ava, Caitlin, and Dylan?  We’ll have to stay tuned to find out, but the cat is finally out of the bag and Taylor is now out in the open.  But can she truly be trusted?

4

“He only hates you because he loves you.”

Dylan continues to try and win back Andrew’s affection in this episode, but Andrew has made it clear that he needs some time after learning about Dylan’s secret past with Nolan.  Andrew finally comes around at the end of the episode and the two of them have a sweet moment together, as they slow dance.  It looks like the two of them are home now, but they make it clear that there will be no more secrets between them, but we know that the drama is nowhere near over.  Will Andrew be able to fully support Dylan?

3

“I know who this is!”

So I’ve been wondering who Bad Bishop is for quite some time and our girl Mona finally figures it out after Bad Bishop says that “chess is the art of math.”  Mona remembers that Mason said something similar about playing piano during their counseling session and she confronts him.  Mason admits to being Bad Bishop and asks what comes next and Mona says, “Start a new game,” as their conversation is interrupted when Nolan’s identification card is used somewhere, luring Mona away.  Now that we know that Mason is Bad Bishop, what does this mean for Mona?  Is this a new potential romance for her or a good friend?  We’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like Mason has been cleared of any involvement in Nolan’s murder, but let’s hope that he has good intentions for Mona.

2

“So reinvent yourself and follow through.”

I love the growing friendship between Alison and Mona on this spin-off and they have another truly significant moment together.  Alison has been feeling torn over Taylor, recognizing the connection here.  She has been trying to balance her life and make time for her family while also making a difference in the lives of her students, but she is feeling slightly defeated.  Mona gives her a pep talk and tells her to follow through on starting over so that Alison can truly get her fresh start.  I think that Mona and Alison have a great dynamic and they make a terrific tag team.  Let’s just hope they can bring this new “A” down before it’s too late!

1

“Let’s take this bitch down.”

After Mona gets an interesting set of cupcakes featuring a creepy message asking:  “Can we be pals?” she realizes that she has just become a major player in the new A’s game.  Mona realizes that whoever broke into her apartment and left the cupcakes has Nolan’s ID card and she is determined to get to the bottom of this.  After tracking the ID card to Dana Booker, Mona realizes that she is going to need someone on the inside as well and she tells Alison, “I refuse to be a doll.”  Mona is ready to take on whoever she needs to and I think Dana Booker better watch her back.  She may be clever, but there is no one like our girl, Mona.  Stay tuned!
