Spoiler-Free Review of “Hokum” in Theaters: A Trippy and Terrifying Gem!

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“They were doomed…”

Hokum premiered in theaters on May 1st 2026. The folk horror mystery film stars Adam Scott, David Wilmot, Peter Coonan, and Florence Ordesh. It runs for approximately an hour and forty-eight minutes.

When a novelist retreats to a remote hotel in Ireland to scatter the ashes of his parents, he learns that a witch may be haunting a suite in the hotel he is staying at, which could be connected to the disappearance of a woman who helped him during his stay.

Here is the trailer:

Hokum lures us into a compelling slow burn mystery with some chilling moments built in. Is it worthy of YOUR next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

So scary!

This movie scared me on more than one occasion. The jump scares never felt cheesy or filler. Each one complimented the eerie overall tone of the film so well. I had goosebumps on my skin the entire time and felt like I was losing my mind in the best way possible.

This movie reminded me a lot of Oddity (from the same writer and director) mixed with 1408. If you enjoy hotel horror flicks, there is a lot here for you to enjoy.

It may be a while before I go down into my basement and I highly recommend investing in some chalk!

A solid mystery.

Even though this was a horror movie, I really enjoyed the elements of mystery within it. It really drew me in and I found myself wanting to know more with each clue presented, which ended up turning into quite the insane ride! Wow…

I also thought Adam Scott did a great job here with a note-worthy performance.

The Cons:

Be prepared for a slow burn.

I wouldn’t say that this was a major con and it didn’t take away from the overall impact of the film by any means. Just keep in mind that it will take a while for things to unfold.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!!!

Hokum is a thought-provoking horror film that unleashes some frightening moments upon its audience, reeling us into an unhinged nightmare worth exploring.

This film exceeded my expectations! I’m not sure that I’ll be sleeping for a while though…

DON’T TAKE THE JOB…

It was only supposed to be temporary…but when Olivia Crewe accepts a new position that seems too good to be true, she soon discovers that twelve other girls previously had the same job as her. Only none of them lasted for more than thirty days. No notice. Nothing…right before they mysteriously disappeared without a trace.

Spoiler-Free Review of “Brand New Cherry Flavor” on Netflix: Freaky and Bizarre

*This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!*

“There’s only one you…so who are you?”

Brand New Cherry Flavor premiered on Netflix on August 13th 2021 with eight episodes available to stream now. The limited revenge horror series stars Rosa Salazar, Catherine Keener, Eric Lange, Jeff Ward, and Manny Jacinto. Each episode runs for approximately 40-45 minutes.

The show centers around a young filmmaker named Lisa Nova, who has recently moved to L.A. to try and make her directorial debut with her eccentric short film. After being wronged by a rich movie producer, she makes a deal with a dangerous witch to get her revenge.

Here is the trailer:

Brand New Cherry Flavor initially feels like a dream come true with its talented lead actress and dark premise, but this may be the strangest show I have seen yet. Is it worth a watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Strong female leads.

Rosa Salazar and Catherine Keener are electric on screen. They both reel you in with their character portrayals. They are more than just believable. They are the best part of the show and they really committed to their roles and then some.

I’d love to see Rosa Salazar in more because she was truly fantastic!

Intriguing start.

I was immediately pulled into this show with the first few episodes. The plot gives off a dark noir vibe with some extreme body horror thrown in for shock value. There is a mystery surrounding the witch and what the consequences will be if Lisa makes a deal with her.

But things start to get really weird after that…

The Cons:

Extremely gross and weird…

This show is not for those with a weak stomach. Do not watch this show while eating. You’ll thank me later. I’ve seen a lot of weird shows before, but this one may take the cake. Things were weird from the start and really disgusting, but as the show continued, things got even stranger.

I mean, really strange.

The plot goes off the rails.

Even with all of the extreme body horror and weird things going on, I was initially drawn into the plot and the performances made it worthwhile to stick around. However, as things continued, the plot started to really fall apart for me. I thought that the extreme gross moments started to become the center of the series as the plot lost its way.

So am I in or out?

I’m 50/50 on this one…

The performances of Salazar and Keener were honestly the best part of the series. I think that this show would have worked better as a movie rather than a limited series. It started off strong for me, but it almost felt like it ran out of ideas and just started to throw in disgusting nonsense to keep the audience there until the end reveal, which was just all right for me.

I really enjoyed watching Rosa Salazar on screen and I think that if anyone else had played this part, I probably would have tuned out much sooner.

This show will most likely get a lot of viewers because it is quickly getting a reputation for being the grossest thing that Netflix has ever released. They may be on to something here because I’m not sure if I will be able to keep my lunch down after watching this…

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Brand New Cherry Flavor in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” Season 15 Episode 3: “The Rupture”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 15 episode 3, I realized that sacrifice is never easy, but sometimes it is necessary.  Would you let the world die so that someone else could live or would you be able to make the impossible choice that Sam Winchester is left with?  Please note MAJOR spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “The Rupture,” the team works together to retrieve Lilith’s horn to summon the souls back to hell, but not everything goes according to plan.  Meanwhile, a sacrifice is made that reminds us that we are coming to the end, but what does it mean for the fate of our remaining characters?  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 15 episode 3 are:

5

“Go team!”

In the beginning of the episode, Rowena tries another ritual to cast the souls back to hell, but it doesn’t work.  Rowena says that they are all going to die and that no magic can stop it.  Dean insists that they try and come up with another plan and it seems like Belphegor has an idea with potential.

Belphegor explains that Lilith had a horn to summon all of the souls at once as a measure of last resort, but that it is probably locked away somewhere in hell.  At this point, no one else has another suggestion, so it’s time for the team to get to work.

4

“Not at any price…”

Ketch is still recovering in the hospital, but he is anxious to return to his friends.  We know that Ketch was hired to track down Belphegor by a demon named Ardat and she certainly makes her presence known now.  Ardat threatens Ketch and demands that he give up his friends, but Ketch has this moment of redemption.

The old Ketch would have given them up to save himself,  but he remains loyal and true.  Ardat rips out Ketch’s heart and leaves him there to die, but we know that not everyone is going to make it on the last season of SPN.  Either way, I’m glad that he did the right thing in the end.  RIP Ketch.

3

“You’re an abomination…”

Castiel is forced to join Belphegor in hell to track down Lilith’s horn, but he is not exactly pleased about it.  Belphegor claims he wants to be friends, but Castiel cannot bear to look at him wearing Jack’s body like a suit.  Castiel tells Belphegor that he is an abomination, but proves to be quite useful when it comes to opening up the box to retrieve the horn.  Nice singing, Cass!

Ardat attempts to break up the party, but is eliminated.  However, she warns Castiel that Belphegor is trying to claim the throne of hell for himself.  Belphegor’s true motives are revealed, explaining that he wants to absorb all the souls so that he can become a god.  After all, there is a vacancy for that position.

Castiel is able to stop him in time, but Belphegor clearly does some damage when he pretends to be Jack one last time.  Castiel recognizes the lie and destroys Belphegor, but it broke his heart to do so.  Will Castiel be able to recover from this or is he too far gone now?  I can’t bear to see him apart from the Winchesters, but he may need to find his sense of worth on his own.  We need you Cass!

2

“It has to be you.”

SPN is not holding anything back for the final season, as Rowena suddenly realizes that “death is an infinite vessel.”  She explains to Sam that she can absorb all the souls and bring them back to hell, but her death will seal the spell.  Sam tells her that there has to be another way, but that pesky prophecy comes back up, as Rowena reminds him that he will need to be the one to kill her.

Sam and Rowena have grown very fond of one another and this moment was beyond heartbreaking, as Sam kills Rowena to save them all.  Rowena absorbs the souls and says goodbye to her boys before she enters into the rift, which had me crying my eyes out.

Rowena has been one of my absolute favorite characters, but I thought that she also found redemption here.  The witch who used to look out for her own interests truly discovered her purpose and this moment with Sam reminded her that she did have a family in the end.

Farewell Rowena.  I will miss you so much!

1

“I don’t think there’s anything left to say…”

After this incredibly heartbreaking moment, Sam and Dean return to the bunker.  Sam is dealing with his grief and Dean reminds him that they did it.  Dean and Castiel have an argument and Castiel feels like Dean is still blaming him for Mary’s death.  There has been a distance between these two for quite a while, but Castiel decides that it’s time for him to move on now.

Where will Castiel go?  Is there a way for him and Dean to resolve their differences?  I hope so because I can’t bear to see him separated from Sam and Dean.  Castiel reminds Dean that he has Sam, but I have always looked at them all as a family and I can’t bear to see them apart.  Let’s hope this gets resolved!  Stay tuned SPN family!

“Supernatural” Season 13 episode 7 ranking the top 5 moments: Dead is dead…or is it?

Happy Friday TV Fans!  I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday spent with family and friends.  Thankfully, we were given a new episode of the CW’s Supernatural to enjoy.  After watching Season 13 episode 7, it feels like everyone is coming back from the dead.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  Our old prophet friend, Kevin has returned along with some enemies sprinkled into the mix.  Lucifer walks the mean streets of earth and gets a harsh slap of reality while seeking help from any unlikely source.  Fans are left with an open question as to Rowena’s whereabouts.  Sure we thought she was toast, but Supernatural doesn’t let any character rest for too long.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 13 episode 7 are:

5) Lucifer returns to earth and a woman mistakes him as a homeless man.  So Lucifer has once again figured out a clever way to escape the portal he was in and is making friends everywhere he goes.  His powers are severely weakened which makes this moment even funnier.  There is nothing Lucifer can do about it except to come up with a snappy one liner to satisfy his need for revenge.  Who would have thought that a mortal could put Satan himself in his place?

4) Kevin is back!  Or maybe a version of Kevin…I was a little unclear on this but either way it was great to see our old friend Kevin back in the mix.  He is still utilizing his gift as a prophet but is now working for the angel, Michael, and could be a threat to humanity.  Will Sam and Dean be reunited with him?  Is he back for more episodes?  It’s uncertain, but it was nice to see a familiar face amongst all of the villains coming to the surface.

3) Is Rowena alive?  Other characters are creeping to the surface so it would make sense that an all powerful witch like Rowena may be alive somewhere in another world or dimension.  I have to admit I do miss the way her accent pronounces Winchester every time she is trying to thwart an effort of the brothers.  With Crowley gone, we need a villain with a good sense of humor to work with or against Lucifer.  We know that Mr. Ketch is after witches searching for her, which makes one think she is more than likely alive.  I for one hope that she is and would love to see a bewitching come-back.

2) Lucifer turns to an unlikely friend for help.  Lucifer is back on earth and is threatened by Kevin and Michael so who does he go to?  Naturally, he teams up with our favorite angel, Castiel.  Lucifer’s pep talk to Castiel is hilarious as he underplays the severity of the situation saying “we’re sorta all going to die” with a playful shrug.  He is looking to recruit Castiel but is trying to use him at the same time to find out where Jack is in all of this.  I have to admit I also enjoyed the proud father moment from Lucifer even though it is twisted and centered on how much pain his son caused.  Lucifer listened like a giddy school girl, but clearly does have some connection to his son.  It will be interesting to see what happens when they meet for the first time.

1) Ketch is not a twin, but Ketch himself!  Dean knew that something was not adding up with Ketch’s story.  There was even documentation about this claim that he was a twin, but Dean still wasn’t buying it and I don’t blame him.  He noticed the look in Ketch’s eyes when he mentioned his mother, Mary, signaling to Dean that he is the real Ketch and somehow Rowena is the key to him surviving longer in this world.  Ketch was a worthy opponent mostly because he tugs at Dean’s emotions and vulnerability.  Will Dean be able to put his own personal vendetta against Ketch aside to do right by the greater good?  Good thing he has Sam there to keep him grounded.

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories about Supernatural below.  Happy viewing!
