Spoiler-Free Review of “The Witcher” Season 2 on Netflix: An Entertaining Adventure

*This is a spoiler-free review for season 2 so feel free to read on!*

“Toss a coin to your Witcher…”

The Witcher season 2 premiered on Netflix on December 17th 2021 with eight episodes available to stream now. The fantasy action series stars Henry Cavill, Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra.

Geralt of Rivia is back as he shows off his monster-fighting skills while trying to protect the young princess Ciri from countless threats.

Here is the trailer:

The Witcher provides us with plenty of monsters, magic, and gore while allowing its characters a chance at true self-discovery and redemption. ls season two worthy of your next watch? Let’s find out…

The Pros:

Ciri shines!

I really loved the development of Ciri in season two. She felt like a plot device in season one for a lot of the time and I actually felt like I got to know her this time around.

Those training sessions reminded me of Buffy!

True character growth.

I didn’t think there would be a lot of growth for Geralt but boy was I wrong. I really loved the interactions between the core four characters and I thought we witnessed some true growth and transformation. Redemption was earned for some and others went through pain and loss.

All of the emotions were real and I really loved the bonds formed between some of the characters. It connected me to the show that much more and really elevated it in a lot of ways.

The Cons:

A lot of sub-plots to keep track of…

I had the same issue with the first season. The pacing works for the most part and there is enough action to keep you entertained, but when I started to actually think about what was going on with some of the sub-plots, I felt a bit lost.

I thought the first half of the season had a darker tone, but the fun picked up starting in episode four and I thought the pacing stayed on track from there, however.

So am I in or out?

I’m in!

I thoroughly enjoyed season two and I think it’s safe to say that I am a fan for life of The Witcher. The characters are really the best part of the show for me and I absolutely loved going on this journey with them!

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on The Witcher in the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Walking Dead” Season 10 Episode 12: “Walk With Us”

Happy Sunday TV fans! After watching AMC’s The Walking Dead season 10 episode 12, we were reminded that “things don’t always work out the way you want” and sometimes what you desire most of all can lead to your downfall.

Please note MAJOR spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In tonight’s episode, “Walk With Us,” the war is here, as we get a few unexpected casualties. Meanwhile, Negan finally gives Alpha what she wants, leading to the epic ending you have been waiting for.

My top 5 moments from The Walking Dead season 10 episode 12 are:

5

“I’ll never walk with her.”

The opening of the episode is beyond intense. There are still flames everywhere as our group defends Hilltop. Lydia refuses to walk with her mother and runs off, but ends up bumping straight into Negan. She is initially relieved to see him, but it looks like he has another agenda up his sleeve. Where does Negan’s loyalty lie? We’re about to find out…

4

“Her hand just slipped out of mine.”

In the midst of all the chaos, Yumiko actually spots an injured Magna in the crowd.

TWD AMC 6

Magna was able to survive the cave-in, but says that she lost track of Connie and couldn’t find her. This doesn’t necessarily mean that Connie is dead and I am remaining positive about one of my favorite characters on the show, but I was glad to see that Magna is all right.

Magna and Yumiko take a break from the war to break up, earning some screen time during the episode.

3

“Never!”

After Mary finally gets a chance to hold baby Adam, we witness a sweet moment. It’s good to see family back with family except they are being followed by a hungry horde of walkers. Mary sacrifices everything to protect her nephew and leads the walkers away, taking them out one by one.

TWD AMC 4

Only Beta is waiting for her and stabs her, waiting for her to turn so that she can walk with Alpha. Mary’s actions were so brave and I was honestly so upset to see her die after showing so much promise and potential.

After being turned, Alden shoots her with an arrow to prevent her from falling victim to such a cruel fate. Beta runs off again and even takes out one of his own followers to protect his identity.

2

“I can stay here with you.”

Judith has always been so strong and mature, but she certainly grows up a lot after this episode and my heart goes out to her. The plans goes slightly off when Ezekiel is separated from the kids, but Earl gets them to the safe house.

Judith discovers that Earl has been bitten and offers to stay with him so that he does not have to be alone. Earl tells her that he is not alone and tells her not to come out again so that he can stop himself as a threat.

It’s not that easy to stab your own brain as we find out and poor Judith is left to take out undead Earl. Daryl and the others find the kids and they are all safe, but this has clearly taken a toll on Judith and I’m pretty sure that she has gone through more things than any other kid on the planet…ever.

Even though this was heartbreaking to watch, I finally felt like Judith got a true moment to shine, channeling Carl quite a bit here.

1

“Took you long enough.”

Negan informs Alpha that he has found the thing she is looking for, leading her off to where he has Lydia held captive. After an interesting Lion King debate, Negan actually reveals quite a bit about his own feelings after his wife died.

Alpha explains that it is Lydia’s destiny to die because she loves her. Lydia has always been Alpha’s weakness and as Lydia breaks free, we discover that she is in a different shack.

Alpha finds her own shack empty and Negan swiftly slashes her throat. He rolls her undead animated head toward Carol, revealing that these two make quite the team.

This was probably one of the best episodes I have seen on the series and I was very satisfied with this outcome. Welcome back to the team, Negan!

So, now that Alpha is dead, what does this mean for the fate of The Whisperers? Is the threat really over or will they take revenge?

Stay tuned! Next week we finally catch up with Michonne!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on TWD in the comments section below. Thank you so much for reading and happy viewing!

My performance of the week ending 12/21/19 on TV goes to…

Paola Nuñez as Esme Carmona on USA Network’s The Purge season two.

The Purge season one was such a welcomed surprise last year and I wasn’t sure that a new group of characters would be able to live up to it, but Esme Carmona gave me someone to truly root for.  Paola Nuñez’s performance was inspiring, heartfelt, and powerful.

**Please note major spoilers are ahead if you are not caught up on the series.

As soon as season two began, Esme immediately became my favorite character.  I thought it was so interesting that she worked for the NFFA, but had a moral compass.  The more secrets Esme uncovered, the more she was in danger, but her quest for the truth was truly inspiring.

We have seen members of the Resistance in the previous movies and season, but Esme’s transformation and discoveries as a part of the NFFA were truly unique, showing us just how corrupt the system was.  Esme could have easily stayed quiet, knowing full well what the NFFA was capable of, but she continued to take huge risks to get justice for those who were wronged by the system, including Professor Adams, who was very near and dear to her heart.

Once we glimpsed into Esme’s past, I was even more intrigued by her character.  Esme did not always follow the rules, but she fought for what she believed in and family and friendship were so important to her.  Esme’s dynamic with her sister was heartbreaking, which made the scene with her father that much more compelling and understandable.

During the season, I was really hoping that Esme would team up with Ryan and she did, which helped develop her character even more.  As Ryan and her grew closer, we got to see a softer side of Esme, making her even more likable.  Not too many characters tend to survive on Purge Night so I didn’t want to get my hopes up about these two, but I thought this gave Esme’s character even more layers and it made the season finale that much more shocking.

What’s next for Esme?  Well, not much if you watched the season finale, but that doesn’t mean that her actions were done in vain, as they actually inspired a Resistance movement.  Esme’s face was the symbol of this movement, as her friends refused to let society forget about who she was and what she stood for.

Nuñez was able to channel so much strength into Esme’s character.  I was captivated by her every single time she was on screen and I truly believed in her cause.  The quest toward truth and redemption is never an easy one, but Esme Carmona’s courage reminded us that our lives depend on it and we should keep fighting for answers one day at a time.

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!

My performance of the week ending 11/9/19 on TV goes to…

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan on AMC’s The Walking Dead

I’ve been waiting so long for Negan to do something earth-shattering and it looks like he has finally returned.

Whether you love him or love to hate him, Negan is one of the best villains I have ever witnessed on any television show.  His actions are ruthless and he has killed some of our beloved characters and yet he still manages to find a way to be charismatic, thought-provoking, and absolutely hilarious.

Over the seasons, Negan has been on this journey toward redemption and the dynamic between him and the Grimes family is a major part of that.  Negan is not completely bad and he has proven that there is this potential within him to do good, but it can’t completely wipe his slate clean either.

In the previous episodes, Negan really bonded with Lydia and I think it’s because he knows all too well what it means to be looked at as an outsider and the enemy.  No matter how hard you try to do the right thing to fit in, you will always be the first one blamed for anything that goes wrong.

Negan’s past actions are beyond forgivable, but I also can’t ignore the anti-hero emerging within him either.  I think that’s why I was so captivated by his performance in season 10, episode 5.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you are not up-to-date on the series.

In this episode, Negan’s chance at goodness is brutally ripped away from him when his number one fan, Brandon, decides to murder an innocent family.  Negan kills Brandon and the big bad wolf returns, as he grabs his new Lucille and leather jacket, ready to cross into The Whisperer territory with nothing to lose.

Except he did lose something, suddenly realizing that he isn’t going to get the chance to be a hero and that the darkness from his past actions will always follow him.

Is Negan going to be working with the enemy or is this his opportunity to truly make a difference and stop Alpha once and for all?  I can’t ignore the setup here, but I also know that Negan has been broken after this moment with Brandon.

He can’t really blame Brandon because he is the cause of his actions in a way, but does that mean that he can only be a villain in the end or is there another way?

While I love Negan as a villain, I feel like he has grown so much over the seasons and I would like to see him thrive as a bad-ass anti-hero.  That doesn’t mean that he needs to always do or say the right thing, but I think that Alpha is a worthy foe and only Negan or Carol really have the potential, or the motivation, to take her down.

What’s next for Negan?  We’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like he will be tested by Alpha and Beta.  I’m interested to see how he does and what their conversations will look like, especially since we know that Negan is no stranger to manipulation.

Either way, I’m excited to see some well deserved screen time for Negan’s character and I can’t wait to see what he does next.  I’ve been very impressed with season 10 so far and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s performance is a major part of that!

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Walking Dead” season 10 episode 5: “Little Pig, Little Pig!”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching AMC’s The Walking Dead season 10 episode 5, Siddiq asked, “What are we here for if not for each other?”  An important question for sure, but what happens when all of your efforts toward redemption are shattered completely?  Do you keep trying or do you take the easy way out and embrace your old ways?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “What It Always Is,” we catch up with Negan while he is followed by a devoted fan boy named Brandon.  Meanwhile, Connie and Daryl team up to find Kelly and Gamma crosses paths with Aaron.  My top 5 moments from The Walking Dead season 10 episode 5 are:

5

“Now we both know what it means.”

Ezekiel gets some screen time during this episode and Siddiq worries about his developing cough.  He reveals to Siddiq that he knows what it is and explains that Thyroid Cancer runs in his family.  Siddiq explains that they can manage it, but Ezekiel realizes what this means in the world they live in now.

Ezekiel tries to find the courage to tell Carol what is going on, but shuts off the radio before she says anything on the other line.  Will he finally be able to tell her the truth before it is too late?  Is it possible that Siddiq may be able to find a way to help him?

After all, we have seen a lot of miracles on both TWD and Fear TWD, so I wouldn’t rule out the king just yet…

4

“Family…”

In the beginning of the episode, Kelly ends up in a very dangerous situation when her hearing gets even worse.  Connie worries when she isn’t back yet and Daryl and Dog agree to help her find her.  Luckily, Kelly looks like she is going to be all right, but Magna is forced to reveal a stash of supplies and food they have been stealing in the woods.

Connie is outraged by this and apologizes to Daryl about having to lie about it, but Daryl understands all too well what it means to do things for family.

Connie and Daryl share some really cute moments together and I am always smiling when they are on screen together.

Magna and Yumiko have a lot of tension going on in their relationship; however, as Magna reveals more information about her past crime, which causes a wedge between them.  Will they be able to reconcile?

3

“You might just have to wear a new mask.”

Gamma reveals some of her frustration during this episode, but we also get this weird Romeo and Juliet vibe between her and Aaron.  Aaron gives her a bandage for the wound on her hand and tries to talk to her, but you have to wonder why?  Gamma tells Alpha about what happened and Alpha suggests that she wear a new mask to try and earn his trust and affection.

We’ll have to see how this plays out, but Gamma is not going to say no to Alpha, especially when she just brutally killed a Whisperer who questioned her methods, suggesting that they attack all at once.

So Alpha is behind the tree and the creek, but why is she changing up her strategy now?  It seems like she is making everything really personal, but will this change once she crosses paths with Lydia?

2

“I passed, right?  I am NEGAN!”

“Classic Negan!”  Brandon is absolutely thrilled to catch up with his hero, Negan, and he even takes the time to bring him some gifts:  another Lucille and his leather jacket.  Brandon is the son of a Savior and he has been in Alexandria, waiting for his opportunity to help Negan.

Negan allows Brandon to tag along at first, but things go way too far when Brandon murders the mother and son that Negan just saved.  Negan is beyond upset by this and smashes in Brandon’s head before he can finish saying, “I am Negan.”

Negan has tried so hard to follow this new path toward redemption, but everything is shattered in this moment, as Brandon reminds him of who he used to be.  Even though Brandon is beyond disturbed, Negan probably also feels somewhat responsible for him.

He takes down the monster he helped create, but did he just unleash something inside himself that is even more dangerous?

1

“Ya’ll scared of the Big Bad Wolf?”

After Negan kills Brandon, he grabs his new Lucille and jacket and takes off.  Bad-ass Negan is back, as he crosses into the Whisperer territory, taking out walkers left and right until he comes face-to-face with Beta.

Now that Negan has made his move, what will Alpha and Beta decide to do with him?  He will be tested, but has Negan truly joined the dark side or is he taking the fight to them?

I actually felt really bad for Negan in this episode because he has been trying so hard to be good and you almost think it can be possible, but his past mistakes are never going to vanish completely and Brandon is a deadly reminder of that.

Negan has always had a strict rule about not killing kids and you could tell that Brandon really pushed his buttons when he talked about Carl Grimes.

Is Negan back to his bad ways or has he just embraced the ruthless strength within him to become the anti-hero we have been waiting for?  I can’t wait to find out!  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” Season 15 Episode 3: “The Rupture”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 15 episode 3, I realized that sacrifice is never easy, but sometimes it is necessary.  Would you let the world die so that someone else could live or would you be able to make the impossible choice that Sam Winchester is left with?  Please note MAJOR spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “The Rupture,” the team works together to retrieve Lilith’s horn to summon the souls back to hell, but not everything goes according to plan.  Meanwhile, a sacrifice is made that reminds us that we are coming to the end, but what does it mean for the fate of our remaining characters?  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 15 episode 3 are:

5

“Go team!”

In the beginning of the episode, Rowena tries another ritual to cast the souls back to hell, but it doesn’t work.  Rowena says that they are all going to die and that no magic can stop it.  Dean insists that they try and come up with another plan and it seems like Belphegor has an idea with potential.

Belphegor explains that Lilith had a horn to summon all of the souls at once as a measure of last resort, but that it is probably locked away somewhere in hell.  At this point, no one else has another suggestion, so it’s time for the team to get to work.

4

“Not at any price…”

Ketch is still recovering in the hospital, but he is anxious to return to his friends.  We know that Ketch was hired to track down Belphegor by a demon named Ardat and she certainly makes her presence known now.  Ardat threatens Ketch and demands that he give up his friends, but Ketch has this moment of redemption.

The old Ketch would have given them up to save himself,  but he remains loyal and true.  Ardat rips out Ketch’s heart and leaves him there to die, but we know that not everyone is going to make it on the last season of SPN.  Either way, I’m glad that he did the right thing in the end.  RIP Ketch.

3

“You’re an abomination…”

Castiel is forced to join Belphegor in hell to track down Lilith’s horn, but he is not exactly pleased about it.  Belphegor claims he wants to be friends, but Castiel cannot bear to look at him wearing Jack’s body like a suit.  Castiel tells Belphegor that he is an abomination, but proves to be quite useful when it comes to opening up the box to retrieve the horn.  Nice singing, Cass!

Ardat attempts to break up the party, but is eliminated.  However, she warns Castiel that Belphegor is trying to claim the throne of hell for himself.  Belphegor’s true motives are revealed, explaining that he wants to absorb all the souls so that he can become a god.  After all, there is a vacancy for that position.

Castiel is able to stop him in time, but Belphegor clearly does some damage when he pretends to be Jack one last time.  Castiel recognizes the lie and destroys Belphegor, but it broke his heart to do so.  Will Castiel be able to recover from this or is he too far gone now?  I can’t bear to see him apart from the Winchesters, but he may need to find his sense of worth on his own.  We need you Cass!

2

“It has to be you.”

SPN is not holding anything back for the final season, as Rowena suddenly realizes that “death is an infinite vessel.”  She explains to Sam that she can absorb all the souls and bring them back to hell, but her death will seal the spell.  Sam tells her that there has to be another way, but that pesky prophecy comes back up, as Rowena reminds him that he will need to be the one to kill her.

Sam and Rowena have grown very fond of one another and this moment was beyond heartbreaking, as Sam kills Rowena to save them all.  Rowena absorbs the souls and says goodbye to her boys before she enters into the rift, which had me crying my eyes out.

Rowena has been one of my absolute favorite characters, but I thought that she also found redemption here.  The witch who used to look out for her own interests truly discovered her purpose and this moment with Sam reminded her that she did have a family in the end.

Farewell Rowena.  I will miss you so much!

1

“I don’t think there’s anything left to say…”

After this incredibly heartbreaking moment, Sam and Dean return to the bunker.  Sam is dealing with his grief and Dean reminds him that they did it.  Dean and Castiel have an argument and Castiel feels like Dean is still blaming him for Mary’s death.  There has been a distance between these two for quite a while, but Castiel decides that it’s time for him to move on now.

Where will Castiel go?  Is there a way for him and Dean to resolve their differences?  I hope so because I can’t bear to see him separated from Sam and Dean.  Castiel reminds Dean that he has Sam, but I have always looked at them all as a family and I can’t bear to see them apart.  Let’s hope this gets resolved!  Stay tuned SPN family!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “American Horror Story: 1984” season 9 episode 6: “Episode 100”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the FX network’s American Horror Story:  1984 season 9 episode 6, I learned that sometimes “being bad feels really good,” but that doesn’t mean that we should throw our moral compass out the window.  Or does it?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In last night’s episode, “Episode 100,” we time jump quite a bit for the 100th episode of AHS, bringing us a killer soundtrack and some new plot twists.  Meanwhile, Xavier and Montana adjust to life being dead, Brooke is on death row, and Margaret is living the good life.  My top 5 moments from American Horror Story:  1984 season 9 episode 6 are:

5

“Take a picture.  It will last longer.”

I guess it didn’t take Xavier and Montana too long to adjust to life being dead at Camp Redwood, as they enjoy some “bitchin kills” along the way.  Ray is still trying to do what is right, but they remind him that there are no more consequences.

Xavier and Montana seem to be hot and heavy, but they have a real passion for murder, but it looks like they may have bigger fish to fry when Margaret shows up for the Halloween concert.

4

“Old habits die hard.”

Margaret seems to be living the good life and surprise…Trevor is actually still alive and is now her cokehead husband.  We learn that Trevor remembers everything all too well and tries to blackmail Margaret, but she decides to strategically make him her husband so that he can never testify against her.  I guess that’s the next best thing to having a sugar mama.

Margaret has made her wealth by investing in real estate for properties that have had major massacres or horrible things take place, but it looks like her diamond in the rough is returning to Camp Redwood.  Let’s see how this works out.

3

“That bitch needs to die.”

Margaret announces some kind of Halloween concert at Camp Redwood, which will feature…Billy Idol!  Well, we know that the Night Stalker is going to want to be in attendance, but Margaret’s presence has also stirred up a need for revenge among all the undead spirits residing there.

I always love the Halloween episodes of AHS, so I’m eager to see how this turns out and hopefully we will get some more amazing songs featured as well!  Will Billy make an actual appearance?

2

“Welcome back to the land of the living.”

Poor Brooke is about to be executed even though she is innocent and she ends up running into the Night Stalker in prison.  The Night Stalker says his master sees potential in her and reminds her that she can still say “yes” to Satan, but she decides to respond with, “F*ck off.”

Brooke stays strong through it all and spits on the window, realizing that Margaret is there about to watch her die.  Brooke says that she is innocent one last time before she receives the lethal injection, but our favorite final girl gets a lucky break.

Fake Rita/Donna/Dee Dee shows up and injects her with something, bringing her back to life.  Brooke is back to the land of the living and I can’t wait to see her take her rightful revenge.  Go Brooke!

1

“I thought I could be free but I’ll never be free.”

Even though Mr. Jingles made a deal with Satan, he is looking for redemption.  He ends up getting the Night Stalker thrown in jail and decides to make a fresh start for himself in Alaska because you know, that’s where everyone goes for a clean slate in movies.  Mr. Jingles/Benjamin/Donald now works at a Videoshack and even comes up with the famous “Be Kind, Rewind” slogan for Blockbuster, which gave me a lot of fun nostalgia.

Mr. Jingle nows has a wife (former prostitute) and an infant son, but the Night Stalker shows up to take everything away from him after asking his master for a chance at immortality.  The Night Stalker brutally murders his wife and he decides to leave his baby with their neighbor.  Mr. Jingles realizes now that he can never be free and decides to end this once and for all.  It looks like we have all of our players in place now so we’ll have to see who ends up surviving.

Overall, I was slightly underwhelmed by AHS’s 100th episode.  I guess I was hoping for some more familiar Easter eggs and AHS did what it always does around episode 5 or 6, where it decides to take this weird turn with the plot.  I really enjoyed the simple slasher formula so I’m not sure that we needed all of this excess fluff, but I’m eager to see Brooke and Mr. Jingles take their revenge.  Stay tuned!

I also enjoyed this music soundtrack the most out of all the episodes so far and hope you enjoy the highlights from it below!

American Horror Story:  1984 episode 6 Music Soundtrack Highlights:

Billy Idol – Flesh For Fantasy (Official Music Video)

Black Sabbath “Paranoid”

REO Speedwagon – Can’t Fight This Feeling

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Affair” season 5 episode 9: “Like They’re Prey…”

Happy Tuesday TV fans!  After watching Showtime’s The Affair season 5 episode 9, I wondered if Noah can truly be redeemed?  Can one really be erased from their own story or is there still a chance to make things right?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In Sunday night’s episode, “509,” the story about Noah is leaked everywhere and it really takes a toll on the entire family.  Meanwhile, Helen makes a shocking discovery about Sasha and Whitney determines where her loyalties lie.  My top 5 moments from The Affair season 5 episode 9 are:

5

“Is she finding any skeletons?”

Part one of the episode follows Helen and we catch up with her right after Petra has called her.  Helen is shocked by what she is hearing, but Noah continues to lie, telling her that everything is fine.  Once the story is released, Helen immediately knows something is up when everyone begins to stare at her while dropping off her kids at school.

Helen calls Noah and demands that he read the story out loud to her, which includes excessive details about a number of cases where Noah has been accused of mistreating women.  Noah looks to Helen, asking her what to do, but he is not the only one who is suffering from the release of this story, as Helen is fired from her job before even starting because of the bad publicity.

4

“I’m very grateful…”

Even though the Solloway family is dealing with a lot right now, Noah turns to Helen and tells her what a great mother she is.  Over the seasons, Noah has constantly placed the blame on someone else.  In this moment; however, he takes a second to reflect on the amazing mother of his children who he has wronged, and yet somehow still stands by him when it comes down to the moments that truly matter.

While I don’t think that Noah deserves a second chance with Helen, I thought this was an important moment worth mentioning.

3

“Do you have any idea what you have done?”

To make things even more dramatic, a fire is spreading across California and Helen evacuates in Sasha’s helicopter after finding out that he picked up her kids.  Helen is initially annoyed that he didn’t say anything, but realizes that he was just trying to help.  However, Helen’s phone continues to blow up and after she makes a statement, only part of her actual statement is used on television, which doesn’t present it in the best light.

Helen is horrified that her children have to witness this, but everything starts to add up when she realizes that Sasha is the one who gave Petra Eden’s name in the first place.  Helen suddenly realizes that Sasha is behind all of this because he wanted writing credits on the movie.  Sasha tries to reason with Helen, but she takes her kids out of there, realizing Sasha’s ulterior motives here.

2

“I just wanted to say hi to the woman who’s ruining my family’s life.”

Part two of the episode is from Whitney’s perspective.  Her phone also starts blowing up when the story about her father is released.  Even though Whitney receives calls and texts from Colin, she decides to call Furkat instead for a shoulder to cry on.  After realizing her mistake when Furkat mistreats her, Whitney gets on the same plane as Audrey Nelson, who is one of the women accusing her father.

Whitney decides to sit right next to her to get some answers and I was really proud of her in this moment.  In the earlier seasons of the series, Whitney was sometimes presented in a selfish and materialistic light, but she has grown so much and has experienced her own misfortune, suddenly realizing that perhaps it really is about the power rather than the man, understanding where Audrey and the other women are coming from all too well.

1

“Why are you still defending him?”

Later in the episode, Whitney comes clean with Colin and he still continues to be there for her, reminding her that she is worthy and special.  This reunion is interrupted; however, when both Noah and Helen show up at Whitney’s place to come up with a plan.  Helen claims that this is all her fault because of Sasha, but Whitney asks her why she is still defending her father?

Whitney explains that part of the reason why she entered into previous destructive relationships was because of what her father did to her mother and she reminds her father that she has seen how he truly looks at women, “like they’re prey.”  Whitney’s awkward encounter with her father in the hot tub comes back up, which is something that Helen was not aware of.

I thought it was important for Whitney to speak her mind here so that Noah can finally see things from another perspective.  Maybe he isn’t completely guilty or innocent, but I am really wondering at this point if his story will lead him to an ultimate redemption or to a darker path of destruction?  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “American Horror Story: 1984” season 9 episode 3: “Happy Jingles Day!”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the FX network’s American Horror Story:  1984 season 9 episode 3, I started to wonder if there truly is method behind madness or if some people are just evil?  Well, it looks like we are about to test this theory out and then some.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In last night’s episode, “Slashdance,” we get a glimpse into Rita and Ray’s past, discovering that everyone has something to hide at Camp Redwood.  Meanwhile, there are still two killers on the loose while impostors run around dressed up as Mr. Jingles to celebrate the anniversary of the massacre.  My top 5 moments from the American Horror Story:  1984 season 9 episode 3 are:

5

“You totally missed it!”

Everyone gets quite a scare when multiple Jingles start appearing, as we quickly learn that it is Jingles Day.  Several kids decide to prank people to celebrate the day of the massacre because apparently it’s tradition, but they are in for a big surprise when the real Mr. Jingles shows up to break up the party.

I guess he isn’t too impressed by the day in his honor, as he proceeds to brutally kill these impostors, but he hesitates when he comes across one with an inhaler, which suggests that perhaps Mr. Jingles doesn’t want to kill everyone…

4

“Oh honey, I wish you could see your face right now…”

Brooke and Rita make it to the car, but Brooke starts to panic when her friends take too long to catch up.  She thinks that she should go for help, but Rita has other plans when she injects Brooke with a tranquilizer, providing us with an interesting twist for sure, as we learn that Rita has been less than honest with the rest of the group.

But why does everyone seem to be so focused on Brooke?  We already got a glimpse into her past and I’m sure some of Joey’s family members might want to seek out revenge, but is there something else from her past that has not surfaced yet?

3

“Maybe it isn’t all my fault.”

So, we learn that Rita is not Rita at all and her real name is Donna Chambers.  She is a psychologist who studies serial killers and she paid Mr. Jingles a visit in the asylum a week before he escaped.  Donna gets Mr. Jingles to open up and chat, as she explains that she thinks that something in his life caused him to be this way.

Donna certainly seems to blame pornography and the military quite a bit, but she wants to see Mr. Jingles in his natural habitat, as we discover that she was the one to help plan his escape.  Donna talks about redemption, but I’m not sure if Mr. Jingles is really making that much progress during his killing spree…although I guess sparing one life is something?

Donna is also far from innocent, as she meets the real Nurse Rita on the way to Camp Redwood and decides to take on her identity.  While it initially seemed like Donna killed poor Rita, Rita wakes up later on when Xavier and Montana are hiding from Mr. Jingles and begins screaming even after they tell her to be quiet.  Rita’s day doesn’t get any easier, as Mr. Jingles decides to shut her up permanently…by shoving an oar in her mouth.

2

“What the hell are you doing down there?”

“I’m dying!”  The campy horror humor continues in this episode and several moments made me laugh out loud.  Ray doesn’t learn from his past mistakes, as he repeatedly leaves his friends to die to save himself…but what goes around comes around.  Ray yells out, “See ya,” when riding off on the motorcycle…right before Mr. Jingles decides to decapitate him.  So long, Ray!

1

“Why the hell haven’t you killed her yet?”

Fake Rita was not the only twist during the episode, as Montana comes face-to-face with the Night Stalker at the end of the episode.  While it initially seemed like Montana was in some real trouble here, the two proceed to make out and Montana asks him why he hasn’t killed her yet.

So now of course, I am extremely interested in Montana’s past and motive and it looks like we will get to see a glimpse of it in next week’s episode.  The twists and turns keep coming our way and I have to say that I am absolutely loving the new season!

My performance of the week ending 8/10/19 on TV goes to…

Marie Avgeropoulos as Octavia Blake on The CW’s The 100I know that Clarke gets a lot of the attention on this show and I am a huge Eliza Taylor fan as well, but there has to be something said for the “girl under the floor” who has grown into one of the most interesting female protagonists on any current show.

Octavia started out unsure of herself, but she has always been a survivor and she has been trying to make up for her ruthless actions as Blodreina in season 6, but quickly realizes that it’s not an easy path toward redemption.  Please note some spoilers are ahead.

I was a little concerned going into season 6 about what would happen with Octavia’s character.  In season 5, she truly broke out of her shell and was absolutely captivating as Blodreina.  Even though her actions were beyond questionable, she had such a drastic character transformation and I was impressed again and again by Marie’s portrayal of her.

In season 6, Octavia has taken somewhat of a backseat, but things get interesting when she teams up with Diyoza after Bellamy leaves her behind.  Octavia discovers a new potential destiny within The Anomaly and it seems like she has been chosen.  Is she a savior or a threat?  I’m not so sure, but this new plot has kept Octavia relevant, continuing her story.

It was heartbreaking to see Bellamy leave Octavia behind, but perhaps that is what she needed.  Octavia has had strong attachments to Lincoln, Indra, and Bellamy, but when she is left on her own, she is forced to deal with her guilt head on, coming face to face with everything she has done as Blodreina.  When Octavia goes into The Anomaly, she ends up on a journey of self-discovery, but Bellamy initially seems skeptical of her true intentions.

In the season 6 finale, Octavia is the first one to speak up about helping Gabriel, performing selfless actions to help save innocent lives, which is absolutely a step in the right direction for her.  Octavia knows that she has a long way to go for forgiveness, but it looks like she has looked within herself to find a way to keep going, which makes her a strong female anti-hero to truly root for.

What’s next for Octavia?  We’ll have to wait and see, but we are left with an uncertain fate for her for season 7 after that cliffhanger ending.  Season 7 will be the last season for the series, but I’m hoping this is not the end for Octavia.  Now that she is finally on her path toward redemption, I want to continue watching her grow.

Octavia is strong and fearless, but she is also vulnerable, which makes her such a compelling and layered character.  I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!
