My performance of the week ending 2/15/20 on TV goes to…

Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones on The CW’s Riverdale.

If you are fan of Riverdale, then you know that Jughead Jones is the heart of the series. His narrations shed so much light on everything and you really get to know him through his writing and his interactions with the rest of the characters. Cole Sprouse’s performance each week is believable and true.

**Please note some spoilers are ahead if you are not caught up on the series.**

That being said, it makes it even more difficult to picture Riverdale without Jughead Jones and yet we are left trying to piece together the mystery behind his supposed murder. To make matters even worse, a lot of evidence is pointing at Jughead’s queen, Betty Cooper, which makes this even more shocking and heartbreaking for us Bughead fans.

Riverdale The CW 1

After watching season 4, episode 13, we finally catch up to that fateful night, but that doesn’t mean that we have solved the case just yet. Donna may have used a new trigger word on our girl Betty, but I have a feeling that this is all a set-up. I have to remain positive because I cannot even think about Betty being guilty under any circumstances.

In this past episode, Cole Sprouse really pulled out all the stops to make Jughead’s path toward potential demise so heartbreaking. As fans, we want to believe that there is some way for him to still be alive, creating a vortex of theories and questions to make sense of everything, but that’s part of the reason why I adore this show so much.

Sure, it may submerge itself in excess teen drama noir here and there, but the dark mysteries are so intriguing and compelling, luring you in that much more. Combine that with fantastic character dynamics and wonderful performances and you have more than a guilty pleasure on your hands.

What’s next for Jughead? Well, this might be the toughest one to figure out yet. Is Jughead really dead or is there some way to explain what has just happened? I can’t ignore the fact that we have been dancing around the plot of a “perfect murder,” so has Jughead truly cracked the case to somehow bring the real conspirators to light?

Riverdale The CW 2
Images courtesy of The CW

I have a lot of theories, but we know that Betty has connections with the morgue and their creepy doctor friend might have been able to make Jughead appear to be dead while Betty tries to bring the real culprits to justice, but how else can we explain what has happened?

For me, there is no show without Jughead Jones and Betty Cooper, so I’m hoping that the truth can salvage this ultimate duo. Lili Reinhart is always fantastic every single week, but I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed with Cole Sprouse’s performance this past week.

Let’s hope he gets the chance to continue to shine by bringing down the real villains here. Go team Bughead!

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!

Have a performance on TV that you think is simply outstanding? Feel free to contact me with your nomination for the week by Friday at midnight!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” Season 4 Episode 13: “Beware the Ides of March”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching The CW’s Riverdale season 4 episode 13, I started to wonder what one should really do when the game is fixed? Sometimes it seems like the odds are always against us, but is there still a glimmer of hope to turn our luck around?

Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “Chapter Seventy: The Ides of March,” Jughead is accused of plagiarism, as we finally catch up to that horrific night in the woods. Meanwhile, Betty is determined to get to the truth, Cheryl and Toni tag team with Veronica, and Archie contemplates the future of his father’s business.

This is the episode we have all been waiting for!

My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 4 episode 13 are:

5

“I don’t want to think about the future right now.”

After Veronica’s trip to NYC and finding out about her father’s condition, she just wants to turn everything off and have some fun. We get to witness some passionate and steamy Varchie moments as a result, but it’s clear that Veronica is having some trouble dealing with everything.

Riverdale The CW 2
Images courtesy of The CW

Archie continues to be extremely supportive of her even though we don’t really know if their relationship will continue once college begins, but he reminds her that she is the strongest person he knows and that her father needs her.

This inspires Veronica to ignite the competitive spirit in her father, realizing that perhaps she knows him better than anyone else after all.

4

“I can’t do it…”

Archie begins to question his own future in this episode as well. Mr. Honey explains that he may not be able to graduate with his class and college admission could also be off the table for him right now.

Archie risks everything to protect Veronica after a flask is found in her locker, reminding everyone that he has nothing to lose. Archie also has to contemplate what to do with his father’s construction business. After considering selling it, he decides against it, remembering that the business has been in his family for generations.

Archie has a lot of thinking to do, but we are certain of one thing…Riverdale needs Archie Andrews!

3

“It’s time to snap a trap.”

Watch out for Choni and Veronica! They make an unstoppable team! Hermosa goes undercover to do some recon on The Maple Club, but our girls are too smart for her, leading her right into a trap. Hermosa may be good, but our girls are that much better…fact!

Riverdale The CW 3
Images courtesy of The CW

The girls put Hermosa in her place while allowing us to witness a welcomed montage of Choni dancing!

2

“The perfect victim to the perfect murder…”

Beware the Ides of March, Jughead! Things are about to be turned completely upside down for our main character, as Jughead is accused of plagiarism.

Riverdale The CW 7
Images courtesy of The CW

We know this is far-fetched, but Bret and the others are quite convincing, leaving behind a lot of evidence pointing in Jughead’s direction while stealing his laptop.

Jughead is determined to set things right and is also tasked with writing a new Baxter Brothers novel in five days, but Jughead is up for the challenge and decides to lean on Betty for help. Betty convinces him to write up his own story at Stonewall Prep, but is he actually now documenting the moments leading to his supposed demise?

1

“I am the daughter of the Black Hood!”

Betty has some fantastic lines in this episode and proves to be a worthy opponent. She stands up for Jughead and even has him take a lie detector test to prove that he did write his own story. Donna and the others don’t really seem to be intimidated by Betty, but one should never underestimate our girl with her very effective bobby pin!

Later on, Jughead agrees to stand down and leave Stonewall Prep when Bret threatens to release the sex tape that will damage Betty’s reputation for good. They are invited to a party in the woods and we know all too well that this is the night of Jughead’s “murder.”

Bret leads Jughead out in the woods and Betty has a chat with Donna. Donna reveals that she has been doing some digging of her own and admits that she met with Evelyn Evernever. Betty reminds her that “tangerine” has no effect on her, but apparently there is another trigger word that will make Betty turn on her loved ones.

What’s the word? We don’t know, but we are now finally caught up, as Betty is standing over Jughead’s body while Archie and Veronica discover her. So, did Betty actually kill Jughead because of the trigger or is this an elaborate plan to make her think she did?

We can’t trust this group from Stonewall Prep and it’s clear that they are well matched for our group, but let’s hope that Betty can find a way to push aside her guilt to get to the truth.

Riverdale The CW 6

Is Jughead really dead? Did Betty really kill him? We’ll have to wait for some more answers, as episode 14 is set to release on February 26th 2020.

Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” Season 4 Episode 12: “True Honor”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching The CW’s Riverdale season 4 episode 12, I learned that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but it’s usually a draw. When it comes to true honor, winning isn’t always the answer.

Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “Chapter Sixty-Nine: Men of Honor,” Jughead and Bret prepare for a duel, but Betty and Alice have a side mission of their own that may be more important. Meanwhile, Archie gets caught in the middle of Uncle Frank’s past, an old nemesis returns, and Veronica heads out to New York to catch up with Katy Keene.

My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 4 episode 12 are:

5

“New York is my town.”

Veronica takes a trip out to New York for a college interview and spends some quality time with her old friend, Katy Keene, presenting us with a fun crossover to prepare us for the premiere of the spin-off series.

Riverdale The CW 7
Images courtesy of The CW

After witnessing a super fun shopping spree with these two, Katy reveals that her mother is very ill, causing Veronica to have her own moment of self-reflection.

After Hermione reveals that Hiram is also very sick, Veronica decides to change her name back to Lodge. It may seem like a small gesture, but Hiram is clearly pleased with this.

Veronica was missing something, but will she find it in New York next year or will she stick around in Riverdale? We’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like we will get some serious Varchie screen time in next week’s episode.

4

“Bret is afraid of me?”

I mean, you are pretty intimidating, Betty, especially after smashing that headstone to pieces, but I am loving the rivalry between our girl and annoying Bret. In this episode, we get the team-up we fell in love with before, as Alice decides to tag along for Betty’s mission.

Riverdale The CW 5
Images courtesy of The CW

Betty and Alice meet with Mrs. Chipping, trying to piece together what happened to her husband and we finally discover that Moose left because Bret threatened him with a sex scandal video tape.

Betty fears that there may be a tape of her and Jughead as well and is determined to find his collection, but Bret is not making things easy with his secret alarms.

3

“And may the best man win…”

The duel between Jughead and Bret is quite eventful, as we get three rounds to determine who the best man truly is.

Riverdale The CW 6
Images courtesy of The CW

Round one is fencing and Bret takes the point, but Jughead literally knocks Bret out in round two, which was quite entertaining to see.

The final round is a chess match, but Jughead ultimately decides to throw the match, explaining that he is done playing this game. Even though Jughead doesn’t win the match, he is a winner in our books as he takes the moral high ground here.

However, it’s only a matter of time before we discover how Jughead meets his untimely demise (or not) and it’s hard to pinpoint the exact motive, but it looks like the Baxter Brothers book series may still be at the center of it.

2

“I will ruin you…”

Cheryl and Toni (Choni) seem to be quite the hit with their new Maple Club, but things get complicated when Nick Sinclair shows up. Cheryl spots him from behind the curtain and this brings up a lot of horrible memories for her. In case you forgot, Cheryl was drugged by Nick during her sophomore year and Veronica and the Pussycats came to her rescue.

Riverdale The CW 4
Images courtesy of The CW

Cheryl really opens up to Toni about what happened and we also learn that Toni went through something similar in her past as well. She shows her love and support for her girlfriend, but she also takes things one step further and decides to teach Nick Sinclair a lesson.

Toni teams up with Kevin and Fangs with their side hustle and videos Nick being tickled. Toni tells Nick that she will ruin him and saves the day, proving once again why Choni is such an incredible couple. I love these two so much! Go Toni!

1

“I think we need to be more worried about Donna.”

Even though Bret stops Betty and Alice from taking his precious collection, Betty does manage to slip Donna’s tape by him. Betty discovers Donna’s confession, which is an identical speech about a teacher she had an affair with.

Betty recognizes that she is lying and has done this speech before, but what is Donna’s end game here?

Betty is right about suspecting Donna as the greater threat, but what does she want with Jughead?

Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” Season 4 Episode 11: “Quiz Show”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching The CW’s Riverdale season 4 episode 11, if you didn’t already have Quiz Show fever, I’m sure you do by now.

Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “Chapter Sixty-Eight:  Quiz Show,” Betty prepares for the Quiz Show match against Bret and Stonewall Prep with Veronica, Cheryl, and Toni by her side.  Meanwhile, Cheryl and Veronica team up to win the rum war, Jughead’s book material puts a dent in his relationship with Betty, and Kevin explores a new potential business opportunity.

My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 4 episode 11 are:

5

“I just want to make him sweat.”

Charles is back in this episode, as both Betty and Jughead turn to him for help.  Jughead is looking for some serial killer information that might help his next book premise and Betty wants to dig up some dirt on the competition, Bret.

After Betty discovers that Bret cheated on his PSATs, Bret turns the tables and reveals some of Jughead’s secrets, but will this put a permanent dent in Bughead’s relationship?

Let’s hope not…

4

“My dad believed in second chances and so do I.”

Archie is showing some of his naivete; however, as he decides to put Uncle Frank in charge of his father’s business.  Morale is low and Archie decides to pass up on a job that would link them to Hiram Lodge, determined to keep integrity as a part of the business.

Mr. Keller clearly has some thoughts about Uncle Frank and tries to get Archie to see reason, especially when Uncle Frank helps himself to some petty cash.

Mr. Keller walks away and Archie explains that this cannot happen again, but Uncle Frank tries to tell him he was only trying to win enough money for the crew’s bonuses.

We know that there is a void in Archie’s life, but I’m not sure that Uncle Frank is the father figure he is searching for…

3

“Not anymore…”

After Bret tells Betty that Jughead is writing the next book based on The Black Hood, Betty is more than upset.  Jughead tries to tell her that he was just throwing ideas around and had no intention of actually writing it without talking to her first, but the lies keep piling up around these two.

Charles finds out that Betty did not get into Yale because they didn’t want to be linked to the daughter of The Black Hood and Betty loses it.  She heads out to the cemetery and decides to destroy her father’s headstone, frustrated that he has ruined everything for her.

Poor Betty…

2

“Our rum war is back on.”

Veronica and Cheryl make a dynamic duo for sure, as they team up to “rum block” Hiram for good.  Hiram claims he is the grand master and is ready for any challenge thrown his way, however.  After Veronica and Cheryl turn La Bonne Nuit into a dance club with free samples of their new maple rum, Hiram arranges for them to be raided, proving to be quite the opponent.

But, no one should mess with Veronica Luna and Cheryl Blossom!

Veronica and Cheryl come up with a plan to use their new dance club as a distraction while they set up shop at Penelope’s Maple Club, promoting exclusivity to some wealthy clients.  Penelope is let out of the bunker on good behavior, as Cheryl forces her to put on a mask and manage the shop while they are at school.

Riverdale The CW 1

Well played, Cheryl!

1

“Victory…tainted by a cloud of scandal.”

Rivw’s Quiz Show was quite competitive, but I would expect nothing less from our fabulous four Vixens, who really showed Stonewall Prep what they are made of.  Only Alice tries to interfere and manages to sneak Betty a copy of the questions and the answers from the show, trying to make up for what happened to her to even the score.

Riverdale The CW 2
Images courtesy of The CW

Our girl Becky is no cheater; however, and wins the game fair and square.  We even got a fun Mean Girls reference, “The limit does not exist,” which I thoroughly appreciated!

Even though Betty did not cheat, we assume that Bret found the questions in her trash and turned her in.  The victory is gone and Betty is suspended.

Seriously, can we get a win for our girl B?

Jughead is beyond furious and challenges Bret to a duel and we then flash forward ahead again to find Betty sitting with Archie.  The two are trying to cope with Jughead’s death and we get an interesting focus on them holding hands that might suggest there is something more here?

Riverdale The CW 3

We’ll have to see how this plays out…

Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” Season 4 Episode 10: “Cherry Bomb”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  The wait is finally over and Archie and the gang are back just in time for the big game!  After watching The CW’s Riverdale season 4 episode 10, I learned that Stonewall Prep “doesn’t play to win, they play to hurt,” but hell hath no fury like a Riverdale woman seeking out revenge.  Watch out, guys!

Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “Chapter Sixty-Seven:  Varsity Blues,” it’s time for the big football game, as our two rival schools prepare for war.  Meanwhile, Cheryl meets the new cheerleading coach, Jughead reveals some secrets to Quill & Skull, and a B & V scam is up and running once again.

My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 4 episode 10 are:

5

“You respect what a man chooses for himself.”

Were you wondering about Archie’s Uncle Frank?  Me too!  Well, at least we get some answers, as we discover that Uncle Frank may be the black sheep of the family.  Mrs. Andrews does not get along with him and tells Archie that Fred was blamed for a DUI when Uncle Frank was driving.

Things also start to get shady when Uncle Frank offers Munroe some drugs to help his kneel heal quicker, but Archie seems to have a fast change of heart, agreeing to allow Uncle Frank to stay with him temporarily.

Riverdale The CW 1
Images courtesy of The CW

Let’s hope he doesn’t bring our favorite vigilante to the dark side…

4

“It tastes like money.”

Veronica is determined to beat her father and even comes up with her own special blend of rum…Luna Rum.  Sounds catchy and apparently it is quite spicy as well, but Hiram finds out and serves Veronica with a cease and desist letter, reminding her that she is still using his patented recipe.

Reggie has some interesting ideas about how to get revenge that are quite juvenile, but Veronica is playing to win and decides to team up with Cheryl to make the perfect blend using her maple syrup.

Go V!

3

“Maybe you could go turn on your femme fatale charm.”

Betty is determined to get some dirt on Bret and the rest of the team to prove that they are playing dirty, but it looks like we are ready for another classic B & V scam.  Veronica, or “Monica,” wears her blonde wig to perfection and tries to get close to Bret.

She can “smell his privilege from across the room” and it looks like she is actually getting somewhere with Betty listening in, but Jughead outs her in front of the party as poor Betty now finds out that Jughead is part of the Quill & Skull secret society.

Riverdale The CW 2
Images courtesy of The CW

I always love an excuse for a good B & V team up, but let’s hope that they can take Bret down once and for all!

2

“I run the show around here.”

Yes you do, Cheryl!  Cheryl and the Vixens are preparing for Spirit Week and the big game, but Mr. Honey reminds her that a new coach will be taking over, Miss Appleyard.  Miss Appleyard doesn’t seem to be threatened, so has Cheryl finally met her match?

Riverdale The CW 3
Images courtesy of The CW

Cheryl refuses to take orders from her and reminds her that her “body is perfection, you crone!”  After Mr. Honey threatens to take away prom for the squad, they turn their backs on Cheryl and agree to follow Miss Appleyard because you know, we can’t have any singing and dancing in cheerleading…

Cheryl is not through; however, and ends up locking Miss Appleyard in her office so that she can put on a showstopping number to “Cherry Bomb.”

Our HBIC is back, but I’m interested to find out more about Miss Appleyard and her motivation in all of this…

Theories on her arrival?

1

“We may have lost the game, but haven’t lost the war.”

After losing the game to Stonewall Prep, Bret seems quite confident.  He tells Betty he’s sorry about her article getting canned with a lot of smug attitude.  Betty doesn’t seem to be intimidated at all; however, especially since she just started digging.  After all, who knows what else she will find?

Betty approaches Mr. Honey and tells him that Stonewall Prep also wins a Quiz Team tournament each year and is beyond motivated to kick their ass.  Our new captain is out for blood and it looks like she will have an unstoppable team with Veronica, Cheryl, and Toni by her side, but we know that Betty is going to dominate the competition.

Riverdale The CW 4
Images courtesy of The CW

We then flash forward to one month later and see Betty packing up some of Jughead’s things.  Bret says that they will be the only ones going to Yale now, which begs the question, did Betty feel threatened when Jughead got into Yale?  We know that Betty was initially rejected, so how did she turn the tables here?

The plot thickens, but I can’t wait to find out more and next week’s Quiz Show looks like it is going to be vicious and fantastic.  I can’t wait!  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” Season 4 Episode 9: “Tangerine Tangerine Tangerine”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 4 episode 9, I learned that sometimes it’s necessary to shatter the darkest parts of ourselves, but are they ever truly gone or have we just unleashed something even more dangerous in the process?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “Chapter Sixty-Six:  Tangerine,” Betty’s life is put in danger after discovering that the Farm is using a trigger word to try and destroy her.  Meanwhile, Cheryl confronts her intruder, Jughead finds his grandfather, and Archie and FP team up to clean up the streets.

My top 5 moments from the Riverdale season 4 episode 9 Mid-Season finale are:

5

“It’s on.”

Veronica vs. Hiram…place your bets now!  Hiram shows off his maturity in this episode by trying to mess with everything his daughter cares about.  He revokes her liquor license and even starts calling some college recruiters behind her back, but Veronica is not about to let him stand in her way.

She lets her grandmother know what is going on, but it doesn’t look like Hiram has learned his lesson yet.  All hope is not lost; however, as the admissions rep from Columbia seems very interested in Veronica’s story.

4

“Let’s see how you do against someone your own size.”

FP has a talk with Archie and promises to help him send a message to stop these drug dealers from hurting kids, but he wants Archie to put down the vigilante mask for good.  Archie and FP actually make quite the team, as FP even takes out his Serpent jacket for the occasion.

After FP is shot, Archie continues to react on instinct and almost beats Dodger to death.  Luckily, FP will be OK, but it looks like Archie is in desperate need of a male role model.

And in walks Fred’s brother, Frank…

3

“You seize the opportunities you are given.”

Jughead wins the writing contest, so it looks like he will be the next ghost writer for the Baxter Brothers series.  Congrats Jughead!

Mr. DuPont reminds Jughead that he needs to play by the rules, but Jughead is still not letting go of the past, as he decides to track down his grandfather to get some answers.  After discovering that his grandfather sold the book over to DuPont, he starts to see the full picture, but it doesn’t look like the drama is over for Jughead just yet.

Jughead is now officially initiated into the Quill and Skull society, but it looks like he is going to be found dead four weeks later…

And so the plot thickens!

2

“I’m the Red Queen.”

I was so excited that Cheryl decided to tie in my favorite book of all time, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and of course she is our Red Queen.  After pretending to poison herself, Penelope Blossom reveals herself, confirming one of my theories.

Penelope explains that she is jealous that Cheryl has been able to find happiness with dead Jason, but you would think she would try and salvage her own relationship with her daughter.

Cheryl is not about to let her mother walk away from this and decides to keep her captive in the bunker.  Cheryl finally realizes that it is time to say goodbye to Jason and gives him a Viking  funeral down at Sweet River with all of her friends.

I thought this was an important and vulnerable moment for Cheryl and I’m glad that Toni and her friends could be there for her.  Even though Cheryl has a softer side, one should never cross the Red Queen, however.

1

“What did you do Betty?”

A good question for sure and of course we have to wait until January 22nd for new episodes to find out more!  During this episode, both Polly and Alice are hypnotized by a trigger word, tangerine.  If the word is said three times, they try to eliminate “Evil Betty” or “Dark Betty” and we discover that Evelyn Evernever is the one making the calls.

Betty decides to have a little chat with Evelyn at Shankshaw Prison, but it looks like her greatest threat might be herself.  Charles works with Betty and uses the word trigger, as Betty tries to go back in her memories to stop her childhood self from ever hurting her cat, Caramel.

It seems like everything works just fine, but when Betty turns to the mirror and says the trigger words again, she shatters it.  Betty tells her mother that the darkness is gone, but now we discover that she may have been the one to kill Jughead.

Personally, I can’t believe that Betty would ever intentionally harm Jughead, but this is definitely a twist I did not see coming.  Betty has been trying to stifle her dark side for a while now, but has she just unleashed something even more deadly in the process?  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Riverdale in the comments section below.  Thank you so much for reading and happy viewing!

My performance of the week ending 11/2/19 on TV goes to…

Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper on The CW’s Riverdale

For two weeks in a row, Betty Cooper has been on fire!  She’s strong, fearless, and a bad-ass girl you do not want to mess with!  Even if you’re family, you are not off limits, as Betty has no problem putting you in your place if you deserve it.

There are so many characters on this show and I enjoy the dynamic between all of them, but there just has to be something said for the talent of Lili Reinhart.  She’s in a league of her own and she always steals the show.

It’s interesting how I was more excited for the premiere of the Nancy Drew series and yet I found Nancy’s character needing to channel some more Betty Cooper to truly come alive because Betty has set the bar so high for female amateur sleuths.

She’s not afraid to challenge authority and even the adults listen to her because she’s usually right…about everything!

Please note some spoilers are ahead if you are not caught up on the series.

In season 4 episode 4, we get a fun and spooky Halloween episode and Betty decides to dress up as Laurie Strode, the original scream queen herself.  Betty absolutely has Final Girl potential and she continues to get even stronger when more threats come her way.

That being said, Betty is so strong individually, but there is this wonderful and supportive quality to Bughead (Betty and Jughead together).  With the new mystery unfolding, it doesn’t look good for Jughead’s fate, but how will that impact Betty?

We have seen her deal with the reveal of the Black Hood and her mom’s drama with the Farm, but Jughead has always been Betty’s rock.  I’m slightly worried that she may completely lose it and resort back to dark season 2 Betty, but let’s hope that she can continue to stay strong.

What’s next for Betty?  We’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like we could be revisiting her dark past.  Betty may have this “serial killer darkness” within her because her father was the Black Hood, but I feel like she can tap into it to get an edge over everyone else, but let’s hope it doesn’t consume her completely.

When a mystery emerges in town, I’m always looking for my girl Betty to solve it and I hope that she can figure out a way to somehow save Jughead since we know that this show has presented us with a lot of twists and surprises before.  Either way, I’m always going to root for Betty and I can’t wait to see what she does next!

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” Season 4 Episode 4: When a Stranger Calls

Happy Halloween TV fans!  During the CW’s Riverdale season 4 episode 4, our characters are threatened on Halloween night, bringing real terrors to life.

Is it just a test or a warning?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “Chapter Sixty-One:  Halloween,” Betty rocks it as Laurie Strode, but her prank caller decides to channel another horror movie.  Meanwhile, Mr. Honey shows what he is capable of, Choni has a séance, and Veronica ends up in a life threatening situation.  My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 4 episode 4 are:

5

“It’s literally six hours of our house…”

Well, we don’t have to wait that long to find out what’s on the mysterious VHS tape delivered.  Everyone watches it together and finds out that it’s just footage of their house from the street.  Everyone in town begins to receive a similar tape.  There is no note left and we don’t really understand what’s going on here, but everyone in Riverdale is being watched.  I’m intrigued!

4

“The Family Man.”

Everyone seems to be having their own spooky adventure during this Halloween themed episode, which was actually a lot of fun!  Veronica is about to close up Pop’s, but a man comes in and asks her for a home cooked meal, revealing that he just wants to get home to his family.

He seems like a nice enough guy, but Veronica later sees a news report revealing that he is a serial killer nicknamed “The Family Man” and he enjoys getting a home cooked meal right before he kills his victim.

Our girl V doesn’t waste any time, as she is able to escape down to her club downstairs.  Luckily, V is aware of her surroundings and she ends up lighting The Family Man on fire before getting out of there.  Go V!

It’s definitely interesting that there are several mentions of Shady Grove during this episode, which is the asylum he escaped from.  Could another serial killer be pulling the strings from inside?

3

“Who or what are the Stonewall 4?”

Well Jughead, apparently they are a group of students from Stonewall Prep who have mysteriously vanished over the years.  Even though it’s said to be an urban legend, I think that Jughead is really about to become the fifth member of this group, especially since we know that he goes missing during spring break in the future.

Jughead decides to do some research of his own, but his plans get put on hold when his fellow students decide to lock him in a box as some kind of twisted initiation because you know…being buried alive is totally harmless.

Luckily, Jughead is released in the morning and is all right, but it absolutely makes me suspicious of pretty much everyone at Stonewall Prep.

2

“This is so messed up.”

Poor Toni!  Toni tells Cheryl that it’s time to say goodbye to Jason and Cheryl agrees to bury him again, but reminds Toni that he is not going to be happy about it.  After Jason’s body is gone, this really creepy doll begins to show up.

Cheryl thinks that perhaps it is Jason, but Nana Rose fills us in on Cheryl and Jason’s triplet brother, Julian, who died in the womb after Cheryl absorbed him.  Cheryl thinks that they should all have a séance and even Nana Rose participates.

Cheryl admits to pretending, but when Toni agrees to let Jason return, the doll comes back as well and Cheryl swears she has nothing to do with it.

This was really disturbing, but also a lot of fun and it gave Choni some quality screen time.  While we certainly enjoyed seeing them in their costumes, I thought that the spooky moments with Nana Rose were actually really entertaining.  I’d love to see more of these three and I have a feeling that Julian is not going anywhere just yet…

1

“Who is this?”

Betty is ready to give out candy and watch some scary movies with Jughead, but she begins to worry when he doesn’t show up.  I absolutely loved Betty’s costume as Laurie Strode, but her prank caller decides to channel When a Stranger Calls instead.  The caller claims to be the Black Hood, but we know that Betty’s dad is dead…

Charles shows up and agrees to help Betty trace the call since it’s obviously not coming from inside the house.  He tells her that it is coming from Shady Grove, which is where Polly is staying, but is she really the one behind the call?

After Betty puts her in her place on the phone, it seems like everything is back to normal.  She recaps her night with Jughead, but now Charles is listening in on their call.  There’s something definitely not right with Charles, but what is his end game here?

Also, we get another sneak peek into the future and see FP and Betty identifying Jughead’s body.  The face is partially revealed and it definitely looks like Jughead’s fate is sealed, but we will have to wait and see how this unfolds.

Overall, I thought this was a fun and spooky Halloween episode.  It really channeled a lot of old horror movies and presented us with some genuinely scary moments.  Plus, we got to see Archie and Mad Dog in those hilarious costumes courtesy of Katy Keene. Way to sneak that in guys and I’m not sure that the vigilante should wear tights, Archie!  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Riverdale in the comments section below.  Thank you so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” Season 4 Episode 3: Saved by the Bobby Pin!

Happy Wednesday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 4 episode 3, I realized that change is not necessarily a bad thing.  But what happens when new threats emerge because of this change?  Is it truly possible to earn a clean slate with so many buried secrets?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “Chapter Sixty:  Dog Day Afternoon,” Jughead adjusts to life at Stonewall Prep, but a new rival doesn’t make it easy for him.  Meanwhile, Edgar calls Betty, but she’s ready for the final showdown.  My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 4 episode 3 are:

5

“I’ll take those odds.”

In this episode, Archie decides that he wants to turn the gym into a community center where kids can go, especially after Munroe’s (Mad Dog) little brother gets caught up with a gang down at the arcade.  I feel like they could have picked a more threatening spot, but I’ll go with it for now.  Veronica is willing to lend Archie the money he needs, but Archie wants to do things his way.

We get an enthusiastic car wash from the boys, but it doesn’t earn enough money.  After Archie tries out being a vigilante, he ends up taking the money from the drug dealers down at the arcade, but it’s not like they can use that either.

Archie’s mother wants him to get out of Riverdale, but Veronica reminds her that she is willing to invest in her son, explaining that he can do so much good in town and I think she’s right.  The community center is open and it looks like Mrs. Andrews will be sticking around for a while after all.

4

“You will do as you’re told.  Nothing more.  Nothing less.”

Even though we get a brief intimate moment between Choni, Cheryl continues to have her chats with dead Jason, which just gets creepier and creepier.  After Nana Rose starts to have some trouble with reality as well, Toni decides to hire a night nurse, Darius.  Cheryl channels her best impression of Beauty and the Beast by telling him that he is forbidden from entering certain areas of the estate, desperate to keep Jason a secret.

Cheryl thinks that someone moved Jason and decides to fire Darius after she discovers that he was in the basement, claiming he heard rats.  It looks like Darius was on to something, as Cheryl finds one of the rats inside Jason’s stomach, which instantly made my skin crawl.

The cat, or the rat, is out of the bag, as Toni finally stumbles upon Jason.  Cheryl actually handles this surprisingly well, asking if Toni has ever met Jason before.

Will Toni be able to bring Cheryl back to reality?  Let’s hope so!

3

“Blood doesn’t wash out…”

Hiram somehow finds out that Veronica is thinking of changing her name and decides to pay her a visit.  He may be in jail, but he owns that jail, which apparently means he can come and go whenever he pleases?  I’ll leave that one alone, but Hiram decides to tell Veronica the story about how he created the Hiram Lodge name, explaining that his name used to be Luna.

Hiram tells Veronica that changing her name will not wash out her past sins, but Veronica decides to go through with it anyway.  Only she won’t be changing her name to Veronica Gomez, she will now be known as Veronica Luna, which clearly infuriates her father.

Will Veronica Luna be able to start fresh or will her Lodge past continue to get in her way?

2

“You need to buy us time!”

After Charles sends in an undercover agent to deliver pizza at the Farm, things go horribly wrong and Edgar decides to get on the phone.  Only he seems to be more interested in calling Betty directly with his list of demands.

Under Charles’s instruction, Betty asks Edgar to release some hostages and poor Polly shows up with a bomb.  Edgar has removed the pin on the dead man’s switch and the timer is counting down pretty quickly, but Betty’s bobby pin comes to the rescue, as she saves the day.  Go Betty!

Betty decides to get Edgar his list of demands since she knows people and shows up at his front door, ready to end this once and for all, but she is clearly outnumbered and is knocked unconscious before anything too major can happen.

1

“Edgar ascended…”

When Betty wakes up, she is held hostage with Alice in a motel room.  So good to see you Alice!  We get an impressive mother-daughter tag team, as these Cooper ladies show us what they are made of.  Betty works on trying to get the innocent Farmies on the bus, while her mother goes after Edgar.

Apparently Edgar wants to get on his recently built rocket, but Alice has other plans for him.  After a gunshot is heard, Betty panics, but Alice is able to eliminate Edgar once and for all.  At least I think so.  You never know on Riverdale!  It looks like this Farm cult story has wrapped itself up neatly, but I’m slightly confused on Edgar’s behavior in this episode.

Part of what made Edgar so intriguing was that he kept his cool and used manipulation to get what he wanted, but he almost seemed like a loose cannon in this episode.  I’m not sure if there are some holes in that plot or if the writers were just done with his story, but I was slightly disappointed with this outcome.

Either way, I’m glad to see that both Betty and Alice are all right.  So I guess it’s on to the next mystery, as Betty and Jughead get some kind of tape delivered to them at their doorstep.  Is this a warning or a threat?  I’m not sure, but we’ll have to see how this all links to Jughead’s future disappearance.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Riverdale in the comments section below.  Thank you so much for reading and happy viewing!

My Ship of the week ending 10/19/19 on TV goes to…

Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones on The CW’s Riverdale season 4.  There’s just something about Bughead that makes your heart skip a beat.

While both Bughead and Varchie had some passionate and fiery moments in season 4 episode 2, Bughead takes the crown for me because they have a bond that transcends all of that, understanding what it truly means to give up everything to do what is best for your partner.  Please note some spoilers are ahead if you are not up-to-date on the series.

In a lot of ways, Betty and Jughead are ahead of their time.  There is a maturity and friendship to their relationship and they really make you think past the temporary moments of passion.  Sure, we love seeing these swoon-worthy parts, but I really enjoy witnessing Betty and Jughead’s selfless moments together even more.

They won’t have an easy year ahead of them, but Betty understands Jughead’s talent and potential and she reminds him that they can get through anything together, which was really inspiring and heartwarming to hear.

Betty and Jughead aren’t perfect by any means.  In fact, I think that both of them have kept their fair share of secrets, but season 4 is really allowing them to flourish.  In a lot of ways, they have moved past their prior mistakes and now they are truly grateful for one another, understanding what really matters in the end…being together.

There doesn’t need to be some epic moment between them because of all of their small moments together make them stand out that much more.  They resemble a real and stable relationship and while I am worried about their future fate now that they will be separated, I have faith in these two no matter what.

Betty and Jughead are both strong characters individually and when they are together, they compliment each other so well and I love seeing them team up for mysteries.

My favorite moment of the episode was during English class when Betty pulled Jughead out in the hallway to tell him to go to Stonewall, reminding him that they are always together.  Betty wants what is best for Jughead and I know that he would do the same for her.

What’s next for Bughead?  We’ll have to wait and see, but I am anxious to find out more about Jughead’s disappearance in the future.  Betty is my go to girl to solve the case, so I know that she will not stop until she finds him, but I am starting to wonder more about what led them to this separate path.

Long distance relationships are never easy, but I know that Betty and Jughead will do everything in their power to stay together.  The King and Queen of the Serpents deserve every bit of happiness, but I have a feeling that someone might try and get in their way.  These two are stronger together, but I am not underestimating either of them and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I’m always rooting for these two and I would love to see some more screen time for both of them, especially since we know that they will really need to work at putting in some quality time together.

What are YOUR thoughts on Bughead?  A dynamic duo or on the outs?

Stay tuned for a recognized Ship on TV each week!
