Ranking the top 5 moments from “Shameless” season 9 episode 7: “I’m So Far Up Shit’s Creek I Don’t Even Have Lunch Money”

Happy Sunday TV fans!  After watching Showtime’s Shameless season 9 episode 7, Lip reminded us that every Gallagher is a “problem child,” but at least they can rely on one another to support each other when in need.  Even when they hit rock bottom, another Gallagher is there to pick up the pieces, reminding us that they may be far from the perfect family, but they all love each other very much.  Well maybe Frank is a lost cause, but you get the idea.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In tonight’s episode, “Down Like the Titanic,” Fiona’s world continues to spiral out of control.  Meanwhile, Carl learns a new word, Kev wants a baby, and Lip crosses paths with Tami again, bringing back his “Jabby” nickname as well.  My top 5 moments from Shameless season 9 episode 7 are:

“I never realized how much fun indoor tobogganing could be.”

Me either Ingrid, but I am sort of itching to try it out now.  Frank continues his adventure with Ingrid and encourages her to stay off her meds, which leads to a lot of fun along the way.  Their dates consist of tobogganing down the stairs, Ingrid shaving Frank in the tub, and Frank getting the opportunity to try out being a therapist for the day with a distraction or two.  Ingrid’s ex-husband, Randy, tries to warn Frank that Ingrid is going to crash sooner or later and shows him the 14 stab wounds he has from when she was off her meds before, but Frank is not ready to let his crazy new love go just yet.  While Frank begins to detect signs that Ingrid is losing it, he is still convinced that she is not too much for him to handle and even has a heart-to-heart talk with Randy about it.  While I’m enjoying the fun these two are having, it seems like it will only be a matter of time before Ingrid’s behavior escalates, leading to unforeseen consequences, but is Frank up for the challenge?  We’ll have to wait and see.

“You guys invited Jabby?”

Tami is back, played by the wonderful Kate Miner, and she sure knows how to make an entrance at her nephew’s Christening.  Lip tries to initially avoid Tami, but she calls him out in front of the entire church, bringing the “Jabby” nickname back as well.  Tami is now ready to go on a date with Lip after initially insulting his sex game earlier and they actually seem to hit it off.  Tami now scores Lip a 6 out of 10 on his sex game, but he works his way up to a 9.5.  What’s next for these two?  I’m not sure, but it seems like Tami is a lot of fun and can perhaps snap Lip out of his funk.

“5 total or 5 per daughter?”

Kev is upset when he sees that V has bagged up all of the baby toys, ready to give it to her friend, Chantal.  Kev is not ready to part with everything yet, even though his daughters are now four.  Kev creates a “keep” and “not keep” pile and even gives us his own rendition of “I’m a little Teapot.”  After coming across a bear that has his voice recorded on it, Kev realizes that he is ready to have another baby, only V is not looking to have another kid.  At the end of the episode, V tells Kev that she is willing to adopt a baby, compromising with Kev and reminding us why we love these two together so much.

“She’s nonstop ugly crying.”

During the episode, Debbie is very worried about Fiona and discovers that she was in a car accident after learning about Ford being married.  Debbie is truly there for Fiona and helps her out as best she can.  When Debbie consoles Fiona, it’s almost like she has now become the big sister.  Fiona has been there for Debbie so many times before and it was truly heartwarming to see the role reversal here.  Fiona finally comes face to face with Max, who bails her out enough so that she can keep her credit intact, but Fiona is forced to move out with nothing, even leaving Rusty behind.  I’m hoping that she comes to her senses and brings her new friend back home with her, however.  Seriously who is going to take care of Rusty now?  Fiona continues to drink away the pain and actually makes grocery shopping seem fun and entertaining, as she gathers supplies and plenty of alcohol to throw herself a welcome home party at the Gallagher home.  Is Fiona ready to accept defeat once her buzz wears off?  We’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like Carl will not be able to move into his own room like he initially planned after all.

“What kind of torture are we talking?”

“True, brutal, and unrelenting.”  Well said Farhad.  Well said.  Debbie is not about to sit by and let Ford get away with hurting her sister.  She enlists the help of Farhad and Alex and tells them that they are three skilled laborers and that she wants to really make this one hurt.  Alex says she is in after learning that they can use power tools.  At the end of the episode, Debbie puts a blindfold on Fiona and brings her out to the street where they have constructed an enormous sign that says:  “This man is an asshole.”  Sure it gets the point across, but Ford is actually propped up in the middle of the sign with his bare ass hanging out.  Fiona chooses his form of punishment wisely and goes for the paint ball gun, firing away at Ford’s behind.  You should really never ever mess with a Gallagher.  What’s next for Fiona and the rest of the gang?  We’ll have to wait until January 20th 2019 for new episodes, but at least this season was extended from 12 episodes to 14, which means we have 7 more episodes to look forward to.  Something tells me that it will be worth the wait.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” season 13 episode 7: “The Gang Does a Clip Show”

Happy Saturday TV fans!  After watching the FXX network’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 7, I realized that doing a clip show doesn’t necessarily mean you are giving in to “lazy writing.”  After all, who knew that doing a clip show could potentially alter reality?  It’s Always Sunny does a clip show brilliantly, bringing us back to some of our favorite laugh out loud moments, while still being original about the premise.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Gang Does a Clip Show,” the gang is bored when they have to wait approximately 30 minutes for their phones to do a system update, which causes them to reminisce about some of the good old days.  As they start to bring us back to some of our favorite moments on the show, they realize that they are also distorting some memories and they run the risk of altering reality.  My top 5 moments from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 7 are:

“Why was that memory in a different language?”

As the gang begins to bring us back to some of their favorite memories, Charlie takes a stab at it and brings up one of my favorite episodes of all time:  “The Nightman Cometh.”  Only as he takes us back there, he is remembering everything in another language, which confuses the rest of the gang.  The gang tells Charlie that he never spoke Chinese, but Charlie is convinced that he did, reminding us about the episode:  “Flowers for Charlie,” when he is the subject of an experiment and believes in his mind that he has become smart overnight.  This leads to the gang suggesting that they remember times where somebody didn’t know what was happening, which leads to some hilarious moments where characters literally ask, “What is happening?”  I absolutely loved the transition here.

“You can’t beat physical comedy memories.”

Dee is excited to bring up some of her favorite memories and tries to recreate some of her favorite characters that she liked to do.  Only the gang has no idea what she is talking about and asks, “What is that?  What are you doing?  Are you just doing a bad accent?”  When Dee tries to remind them about some of the characters, they hilariously ask, “You’ve created characters?”  Poor Dee.  She puts her best effort forward to bring back Crazy Patty, but she ends up falling and hurting herself, which leads to the gang deciding to remember all the times that Dee got hurt, which gives us some more laugh out loud moments from the earlier seasons.

“Let’s remember all the classic times.”

Some of my absolute favorite moments on the show come up during the “classic times,” as we get to witness Charlie hilariously ask Santa all over again if he “f*cked his mom.”  Classic Charlie.  We also get to witness “Wild Card bitches,” the high school reunion dance number, and Dennis explaining to Mac “because of the implication,” which is one of my all time favorite laugh out loud moments from “The Gang Buys a Boat.”  Seriously check that episode out now if you haven’t yet.

“That was one of the best memories of all time.”

The gang hilariously recreates a moment from Seinfeld and is actually pretty spot on with their impression of it.  Only they start to think that it is one of their own memories.  Dennis tells them that it wasn’t them and points out that it took place during the 90’s and asks them who all those people were laughing in the background.  The gang is still not entirely sure about this until Dennis says, “You guys are remembering an episode of Seinfeld” and they realize that “memories are tricky.”

“Now you’re infecting my memory with your memory.”

After Dennis brings up the time that he left Paddy’s Pub, he gets agitated when the memory starts changing, as everyone thinks that they turned off the lights to the bar and then Frank hilariously points out that he doesn’t even remember Dennis leaving.  Dennis tells them that they are infecting his memory with their own memories and that distorting facts can change history, which leads to a discussion about potentially altering reality.  In this new reality, Frank has hair and Charlie has a kid with the waitress, as he brings us into this new reality by looking in on himself like the Ghost of Christmas Past, which is funny on its own.  At the end of the episode, the phones are updated and it seems like we are back to normal, only Charlie looks through the door of the bar one last time, suggesting that perhaps we are not.  Either way, I was initially disappointed to see that they were going to do a clip show until the episode actually branched out into something funny on its own, reminding us why we all love this series so much.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” season 13 episode 6: “The Gang Solves the Bathroom Problem”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the FXX network’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 6 last night, I realized that the gang has a solution for pretty much everything and they will ensure they thoroughly cover all angles to get it right.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Gang Solves the Bathroom Problem,” the gang is excited to go to a Jimmy Buffett concert, but they have to handle an important debate before they can get back to “island time.”  Meanwhile, Charlie shows off his surprising fashion skills, Frank proves that screams are better than music, and poor Dee is ignored once again.  My top 5 moments from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 6 are:

“Were you in the women’s bathroom?”

The gang is ready to go to the Jimmy Buffett concert, but they have to hit pause when Dee asks Mac why he was in the women’s bathroom.  Mac explains that he feels more comfortable in there because he is gay and is ready to initiate a thorough debate if needed.  Before we get there, Mac overacts when Dee begins to question him and tries to strangle her, yelling out, “Maybe I’ll choke you out!”  Poor Dee.  Mac is the first one to take the floor on the argument and explains that, “A, we both like dudes and B, we both find women’s bodies disgusting so no hanky panky.”  Seems like it is case closed, but Dee gets up and reminds everyone that “A, not all women like dudes and B, I find you disgusting.”  And so our debate begins.

“The dress ties the whole look together.”

After Mac mistakes Dee for being in the stall next to him with “pink heels,” Dee says that she doesn’t even own a pair.  Charlie steps up and says that he can explain it all.  We learn that Charlie has also been using the women’s bathroom and he wears a pair of pink heels so he doesn’t look suspicious.  Only Mac peeks over the top of the stall and discovers that Charlie is also wearing a wig and a dress to match.  Charlie tries to explain that he has been doing this since he was little and that “it’s not that weird.”  The gang responds with “it’s so weird,” but Charlie is not about to abandon his bathroom ensemble just yet.

“It’s mostly dicks.”

The gang makes the decision to take away gender from the bathrooms and they decide to make clear signs to indicate this.  This becomes very confusing, as the initial sign has Charlie thinking that there is a “starfish throwing a rock,” which we learn is actually a baby.  Mac thinks he will have better luck and ends up spending several hours on the laptop watching porn and comes up with a sign mostly full of dicks.  Frank then tries to take a stab at it and brings religion into it.  Dee suggests that they just put up toilet signs and decides she is going to use the men’s former bathroom, but suddenly the men don’t want her in there either.  Dee says, “You can’t take away my right to choose,” and the debate goes off topic as Dennis predicted.

“Have you ever read the constitution?”

The gang tries out designating one bathroom for #1 and the other for #2, but the gang thinks this might be a problem.  They try using scented candles in #2 and Frank suggests using the sound of screams rather than music for background noise.  Dennis and Charlie are not really sure about this, but when they enter the bathroom and hear the screaming, they think that they might be on to something.  This part had me crying from laughing so hard.  It reminded me of what you hear when you go through a haunted house, but somehow it worked.  We also quickly discover that Frank keeps a gun with him at all times in the bathroom and the constitution is brought up once again, which leads to everyone actually taking a moment to start reading it.  You can’t say that It’s Always Sunny hasn’t taught you anything.

“In there we’re all the same…”

After much debate, the gang finally realizes that they are all the same in the bathroom and Dee tries to shed some light on everything and has an insightful thought when she suggests, “Why don’t we focus on treating other people the way we want to be treated?”  I’m with you Dee!  Charlie seems like he is really thinking it over, but then says, “Dee, we were just talking” and Mac hilariously adds in, “Yea shut the f*ck up!”  Poor Dee!  Well at least the gang will get to enjoy the Jimmy Buffett concert after all.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Shameless” season 9 episode 5: “Going Fiona is Not a Thing”

Happy Sunday TV fans!  After watching Showtime’s Shameless season 9 episode 5, I learned that labels do not really matter when it comes down to it and that “you like what you like.”  While some of the Gallaghers have trouble defining who they are, others come to an epiphany at just the right time.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In tonight’s episode, “Black-Haired Ginger,” Fiona has trouble letting go and insists on getting involved in Ian’s trial.  Meanwhile, Lip finds himself restless when he gets an unexpected day off work, Liam has an encounter with a “trashy girl” and Carl meets a new potential girlfriend named Kelly, who will possibly have him saying Kassidi who?  No seriously where is Kassidi?  Is she really dead?  My top 5 moments from Shameless season 9 episode 5 are:

“I got nothin.”

After Frank passes out in the bathroom at the Alibi, Kev and V escort him to the hospital and he learns that he needs medication for his liver.  Frank doesn’t have insurance and is willing to compromise on most of the side effects of the cheaper medication option like temporary blindness, but has second thoughts when he hears that erectile dysfunction is one of them.  Frank panics and even runs up to a lingerie store window and screams out, “I got nothin!”  He tries watching porn on his phone and even fails to get it up with a prostitute.  V reminds Frank that he needs to make the right choice:  his liver or his penis and hopes that he makes the right one.  As fate would have it, Frank meets a woman at the hospital and he is back in business after helping her escape.  The mysterious woman is played by the absolutely fabulous Katey Sagal and I am excited to see her return next week.  Could she be a new romantic interest for Frank?  Here’s hoping!

#TimesUpMySisters

Kev is impressing quite a lot of people and is now pretty much known as “the vagina safe guy.”  A lady representing the women’s equality and empowerment march pays him a visit and explains that they are very impressed with what Kevin is doing and that they would love for him to give a speech at the march.  Kev is absolutely honored to do so, but starts to realize that his speech has nothing on the women speaking before him, who are courageous enough to speak out about some of their traumatic experiences.  Kev begins to put things into perspective and even sings his daughters a “stay away from men” lullaby.  V tells him to cut it out and gives him a pep talk, but it looks like Kev is starting to finally get the big picture, as he truly sympathizes with everything these women have had to go through.

“You make me want cock again!”

In this episode, Deb is determined to win Alex back and prove that she can stick with being a lesbian.  She tells Alex, “I know I may be a new lesbian, but I think I can be pretty good at it.”  Fast forward to eight hours later after Alex has been talking non-stop about her “feelings” and Deb can’t take it anymore.  She hilariously yells out, “You make me want cock again” before she leaves Patsy’s Pies with Franny, completely frustrated.  Debbie later goes to visit Fiona’s lesbian tenants and asks them for advice.  Mel decides to make things very simple for Debbie and takes off her robe and asks her how she feels and then proceeds to kiss her and Debbie doesn’t mind whatsoever.  They then further explain to Debbie that “you like what you like and none of the rest of it matters,” which is actually spot on advice.  Be you Debbie!

“Going Fiona is not a thing!”

Fiona can be overbearing sometimes with her family, but that’s because she cares so much about them and wants what is best for them.  Only now they are almost all adults and perhaps she can finally let go a little bit.  Fiona goes with Ian to meet his lawyer and promises, “I’m just gonna listen,” but then proceeds to yell, “Are you kidding me?” when she hears something she doesn’t like.  Fiona wants Ian to plead insanity and doesn’t care how this impacts his “Gay Jesus” image.  She further explains that “nothing is bigger than family” and proceeds to go all Fiona on Ian’s supporter.  Debbie sheds some light on the situation and Fiona tries to say that “going Fiona is not a thing,” but starts to really think it over when Lip basically says the same thing to her.

“Whatever you want to do…I’m with you.”

After Fiona stands up Ford when she was preoccupied with looking for Ian, she starts to realize that maybe she does need to let Ian make his own decisions, even if she doesn’t necessarily agree with them.  Fiona clearly wants to still feel needed by her family and in a touching moment Ford asks, “Would it help if I needed you?”  Is anyone else shipping these two?  Ford may not be Jimmy/Steve, but he is being so supportive of Fiona and seems worthy for sure.  After dyeing his hair black and grabbing his clothes in a moment of panic, Ian realizes that he needs to face his crime head on.  When he comes downstairs before the trial, everyone is there to fully support Ian, even though they absolutely hate his hair.  Fiona finally lets go enough and tells Ian that she is with him no matter what he decides to do and Ian happily accepts her support…as long as she keeps her mouth shut of course.  During the trial, Ian takes full ownership of his crime, but also eloquently explains why he did what he did and ends up pleading guilty by insanity since he was off his meds.  I have to say that I was very proud of Ian in this moment and hopefully he can handle two years in prison.  Even though Ian may face never-ending days of boredom like Mr. Milkovich warned, at least he has his entire family waiting for him and always supporting him no matter what.  Stay tuned!

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the FXX network’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 5 last night, I realized that there is a time and place for nostalgia.  Remember when you used to ride around on a bike with your friends without a care in the world?  Sounds nice, right?  Except when history starts to repeat itself and you wind up remembering why you stopped riding a bike in the first place.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Gang Gets New Wheels,” Dennis is shocked to find his old Range Rover completely destroyed in the alley and decides that it is time to get some new wheels.  Meanwhile, Mac and Charlie also try out some new wheels of their own when they take their new bikes out for a spin, but quickly get into trouble.  My top 5 moments from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 5 are:

“Your Driver’s License is expired.”

Dennis is very unhappy when he discovers that his beloved Range Rover has been completely destroyed in his absence.  Dennis takes this opportunity to buy a new one and expects Frank to handle the “financing.”  Frank hands Dennis about four hundred dollars in change, which is the leftover value from his old vehicle and Dennis realizes that he may need to put his new Range Rover on hold.  Frank thinks that this might be the right time for him to purchase the vehicle for himself, but hits a snag when he is told that his license is expired.  When he asks since when, the salesman hilariously says, “1984” and we get to see a sweet picture of Frank when he was younger.  Oh well it looks like Frank is off to Driver’s Ed.

“Then why don’t you Mac?”

Mac and Charlie are very excited to try out their new bikes and decide to hit the streets.  Before they know it, they are stopped by a gang of kids and they say that Charlie is Mac’s boyfriend.  Mac immediately defends himself and admits that he is gay, but that he can do way better than Charlie and Charlie hilariously asks him, “Then why don’t you?”  Mac and Charlie quickly begin to remember why they stopped riding bikes in the first place after they were stolen by their old childhood nemesis, Shawn DeMont, and history is about to repeat itself.

“I am a Golden Goddess!”

Since Frank is unable to drive until he gets his license reinstated, he agrees to let Dee use the new 2018 Range Rover as long as she drives him where he needs to go.  Seems like a reasonable deal to me.  Dee begins to understand why Dennis loves the Range Rover so much, as she compares it to being on a throne and looking down on minions, which is very powerful indeed.  Dee meets a couple of new socialite friends and is invited out to lunch with them, but snubs Dennis when he tries to tag along and reminds him that he doesn’t have a Range Rover.  The power begins to quickly go to Dee’s head and she starts to act surprisingly a lot like Dennis, as her inner rage is almost boiling at this point, as she practically takes everyone’s head off when she speaks to them.  Dee later decides that she is going to outdo her new friend by sleeping with her younger boyfriend, but accidentally sleeps with her son instead, who happens to also be Frank’s new Driver’s Ed buddy.  Dee is horrified by her actions, but I completely blame the Range Rover.

“There’s no coming back from that.”

As Mac and Charlie begin to remember what happened when Shawn DeMont stole their bike, they recall him saying, “What are you gonna do about it?” and explain that it really was the perfect line and that there was no coming back from it.  Flash forward to present day and the gang of kids is led by Shawn DeMont’s son.  After his son steals a bike from Mac and Charlie, they try to explain the situation to Shawn, who initially seems reasonable and says he will ask them about it.  He then turns to Mac and Charlie and says that he didn’t steal it because he said he didn’t and then brings the classic line back by asking them, “What are you gonna do about it?”  Later on, Mac and Charlie approach the gang of kids and decide to beat them senseless to get back some of their dignity, but things take a dark turn and Charlie later comments that he thinks he may have killed a kid.  I think it’s safe to say that Mac and Charlie will not be riding bikes anytime soon.

“All is well.”

While Dee takes a turn for the worst when she drives around the Range Rover, Dennis finds himself surprisingly relaxed and slightly off his game when he begins driving a more economical hybrid car.  After being mistaken for an Uber, Dennis also meets some new friends and decides that he can “enjoy economy activities” since he has an economical vehicle.  Dennis quickly begins to lose his mojo; however, and even has a very difficult time striking up a conversation with the only girl at his friend’s house, revealing that his overbearing personality may have been directly tied to him driving a Range Rover.  Fear not, the Dennis we know and love is not gone forever.  He discovers that his new friend is selling an old Range Rover and he happily purchases it from him and his personality is back and better than ever when he says, “Be gone from me now” once the transaction is complete.  Dennis begins jamming out to an It’s Always Sunny favorite, “Never Gonna Give You Up,” by Rick Astley, which you can listen to here!  “All is well” again, as he picks up each one of his friends and reassures them that everything is going to be all right now.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Shameless” season 9 episode 4: “Knock Off That Golden Daffodil Sh*t!”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching Showtime’s Shameless season 9 episode 4, I learned some valuable lessons from the Gallagher family such as:  what a duel is, that every vote can be bought, and that loving waffles doesn’t necessarily mean you’re ready to move in with someone.  Perhaps some of the Gallagher gang need to pump the breaks a little bit, but we are definitely along for the ride.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Do Right, Vote White!” Debbie begins to fall for her new girlfriend, Alex, and is excited that they enjoy the same breakfast meal.  Meanwhile, Liam gets a FastPass to the sixth grade, Kev discovers his new talent as a consultant, and Fiona gets involved in politics.  My top 5 moments from Shameless season 9 episode 4 are:

“I love waffles!”

I also love waffles Debbie, but I’m not sure that means I’m ready to move in with you just yet.  During this episode, Debbie and Alex begin to take their relationship to the next level.  They quickly discover that they both like a lot of the same things, but jump into moving in together rather quickly.  When talking about their past relationships, Debbie starts talking about some of the men she has been with a little too much and Alex has second thoughts.  Alex asks Debbie to leave, fearing that she is going to fall in love with a straight girl again and make the same mistake.  Debbie is confused, but has literally been gay for maybe two days or hours?  When Debbie comes home, she blurts out that she is upset about the breakup and Lip unintentionally offends her by asking who Alex is.  It looks like Debbie’s brief encounter with her lesbian side may be over, but hopefully she will realize that baby Franny is the most important gal in her life right now.

“I’m not a traitor to my class.”

Fiona gets surprisingly over involved in politics and throws her support toward Ruiz initially.  Irish Ford is surprised by her choice and Fiona reveals that it is mostly because of rent control.   Fiona becomes passionate about who is she is backing and even takes down Mo White posters hanging in Patsy’s Pies while customers are sitting there.  She offers free pie to anyone who will wear a Ruiz button, proving her theory that “every vote can be bought.”  While Fiona may have a point, she soon realizes that she needs to change her tune and vote, but not before she punches one of Frank’s “white men” at a riot to get her point across.  Glad to see that you haven’t turned your back on the South Side, Fiona!

“Are you the vagina safe guy?”

Kev turns his small “vagina safe zone” drawing into a large sign and is ready to get the Alibi off the “rapiest bar” list.  Kev and V have put in a lot of effort on this and Kev even invites Beth from the “South Side Beat” back to “reinspect” the bar.  Kev is thrilled when they are off the list and are now known as a “female friendly dive bar.”  Progress right?  Either way, female customers are walking through the doors and a new business opportunity comes Kev’s way when another bar owner on the list approaches him and asks for his help and expertise.  Kev embraces his new talent as a kind of “vagina safe zone” consultant and even wears a suit to show that he means business.  Go Kev!

“What the f*ck is a duel?”

Carl is slightly worried that he may be losing his “homicidal mojo” and seeks out some help to get it back.  He is hilariously challenged to a duel after he takes someone’s spot at West Point, but he is having second thoughts on taking out the competition.  Carl and his competition end up at a standstill after taking their 20 paces, not really feeling right about shooting the other one.  Carl’s competition hilariously shoots himself in the leg and reveals that his father wants him to go to West Point and that he would rather go to school to be a poet.  After showing off some of his material and reciting something about the “golden daffodils,” Carl has had enough and shoots him again as requested so that he is too injured to go to West Point.  Carl is happy to have his mojo back and his competition hilariously calls out, “Thanks man!” but maybe he should get to a hospital…like right away.

“I want her back.”

During the episode, Lip meets Xan’s mother, who has come back to retrieve her daughter.  Lip is hesitant to let Xan go back to her mother because she is a junky and unreliable.  Lip doesn’t want Xan to get hurt and decides to take things further when he follows Xan’s mother and discovers that she is also “hooking” for some fast cash.  Lip later approaches Xan’s mother and offers her ten thousand dollars if she will relinquish her rights as Xan’s mother and designate Lip as Xan’s legal guardian.  Before they can go any further, Xan has followed Lip and is so excited to see her mother.  She runs into her mother’s arms and Lip realizes that he cannot possibly separate Xan from her mother, even though she has made so many mistakes.  In a heartbreaking moment, Lip leaves the envelope of money and runs away, trying so hard to do the right thing for Xan.  While it’s clear that Lip cares so much for Xan, he understands the importance of family and wants Xan to grow up loved.  Will Lip be able to move on with his life without Xan?  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” season 13 episode 4: “Time’s Up for the Gang”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the FXX network’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 4 last night, I realized that you should never cross Dennis Reynolds.  I mean like at all.  He will go above and beyond to ensure that you listen to him.  I’m not too sure the rest of the gang is too concerned with this, however.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Time’s Up for the Gang,” the gang is required to attend a sexual harassment seminar after Paddy’s Pub is put on an unsafe bar for women list.  I feel like Paddy’s Pub and The Alibi from Shameless should join forces, especially since they both seem to be on the same page this week.  No one is particularly excited about attending the seminar except for Dee, who shows up ready to get her party on, but is in for a rude awakening about her own behavior as well.  My top 5 moments from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 4 are:

“How many points do we need?”

At the beginning of the seminar, Mac is determined to win and wants to know how many points they need to do so.  The lady running the seminar politely explains that there are no points and they merely need to complete the actual seminar and then they can be removed from the list.  Seems simple enough, right?  Well not for Mac.  Mac continues to talk about the importance of points and further explains, “That’s how the Eagles won the Super bowl.”  The rest of the gang asks him what that has to do with anything, but it seems like they might be better off just agreeing with him at this point.

“Nice try you dumb bitch.”

Dennis is fully participating in the seminar, but Dee wants to jump on board as well, especially since she is the only woman there representing Paddy’s Pub.  Dee asks the woman running the seminar if being called a bird is considered sexual harassment.  The lady is confused by this and tells her no, but agrees that it is not very nice.  Dennis whispers under his breath, “nice try you dumb bitch,” determined to be the top contributor at the seminar.  Watch out Dee!

“You don’t just throw around the R word.”

As the seminar continues, the topic of molestation comes up and the lady informs them that a woman can sexually molest or harass a man as well.  Charlie innocently asks if that’s what happened with him and Dee, revealing for the first time to rest of the gang that he had sex with Dee, which is hilarious enough on its own.  I was wondering when this was going to be revealed.  To make matters worse, Dee tries to explain that it was consensual, but then starts to have second thoughts herself about her past actions.  Either way, Dee is not about to accept throwing the “R word” into the mix and tries to defend herself as much as possible.  I’m not sure Dee is going to win this argument; however, especially since the gang knows about her past affair with Charlie now.

“I’m here for revenge.”

During the seminar, Dee and Mac are asked to perform a role play in front of the rest of the group.  The lady running the seminar explains it to them, but Dee is very concerned about her character’s motivation.  The lady tries to keep them on track, but Dee ultimately decides on revenge.  When she approaches Mac, he lifts her up into the air by her crotch and the lady running the seminar is absolutely horrified, asking Dee if she is all right.  Dee is amazed by how high Mac got her in the air and says she feels like “Thumbelina.”  After seeing how distraught the lady is, Dee hilariously asks, “Is that sexual harassment?” and the lady dryly replies, “No, that is sexual assault.”  It looks like Dee and Mac still have a lot to learn, but at least they nailed their characters during the role play.

“But Dennis…”

Later on, Dennis decides to give his own sort of presentation at the seminar and is surprisingly fully prepared, but I guess we should not expect anything less from Dennis Reynolds.  Dennis starts each transition with “But Dennis…” and fills in the blank, targeting his friends and adding in “But Dennis…I’m rich, I’m gay, I’m a hopeless romantic, I’m a woman.”  He is speaking specifically to Frank, Mac, Charlie, and Dee and goes even further with it, berating each one of his friends until he gets his point across.  Dennis then further reveals that he created the unsafe list and is responsible for the seminar to the surprise of everyone.  Dennis wanted to ensure that everyone would listen to him and clean up their act.  While this initially seems harmless enough, Dennis further explains it is because he doesn’t want the rest of the gang to drag him down with them, keeping Dennis Reynolds as the number one priority.  I’d like to say mission accomplished Dennis, but I’m not sure the rest of the gang really followed you.  Either way, good effort?  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Shameless” season 9 episode 3: “S&M is not like Riding a Bike”

Happy Sunday TV fans!  After watching Showtime’s Shameless season 9 episode 3, I realized that it’s sometimes necessary to update your image.  Whether that means updating your wardrobe to a pant suit, turning your bar from “rapey” to “Certifide Vagina Safe,” misspelling intended, or dusting off your red leather boots to help a friend in need, Team Gallagher is ready for a makeover to help make a difference.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In tonight’s episode, “Weirdo Gallagher Vortex,” Fiona and Irish Ford clash after she closes her business deal, Liam goes to public school, and Lip tries to protect Xan.  Meanwhile, Ian tries out some new religions, Debbie experiments with a woman, and Frank continues to help Mo White with his campaign to make some cash.  My top 5 moments from Shameless season 9 episode 3 are:

“We need more dick.”

During the episode, Debbie grows closer to her new friend and they bond over welding their dick creations to the cars of men outside a strip club.  Debbie enjoys spending time with her new friend, but starts to question her own sexuality when she has a moment with her and makes out with her in the bathroom.  Even though Ian tells Debbie that she is not gay, she can’t ignore these new feelings surfacing.  Will Debbie explore these feelings further?  Is this a new possible relationship for her?

“Stop trying to save the world and save yourself.”

After getting out of jail, Ian is having a difficult time adjusting, no longer wanting to embrace the “Gay Jesus” title.  He tries to listen for “shim” or God, but is getting a busy signal.  Frank tells Ian that he needs to stick to traditional religions in order to find his enlightenment and Ian decides to give it a try.  After trying out Buddhism, Judaism, and Catholicism, Ian doesn’t find the answers he is looking for.  He is focused so much on hearing the words of “shim” or God and he doesn’t possess much patience when looking for his own “enlightenment.”  Later in the episode, Debbie sets Ian straight and tells him to “stop trying to save the world and save yourself.”  Will Ian take her advice?  We’ll have to stay tuned to find out, but I think it’s time for Ian to find a new calling.  Maybe one of a lesser power.

“So now you want a relationship?”

Fiona is beyond excited to sign off on her new business deal with Max, but Irish Ford reveals his jealousy over the situation.  Fiona is initially confused by his behavior especially since they don’t really have a label on their relationship and have been “hanging out.”  Fiona’s dog, Rusty, makes a special guest appearance and keeps her company while she eats her cheeseburger, while Irish Ford eats at the table alone.  After speaking with V, V reminds Fiona that “people get hurt when you leave your options open.”  She further explains that she initially told Kev, “you’re my man, I’m your girl, and if you’re not happy with that…I’ll kill you in your sleep.”  While I’m not sure that Fiona and Ford need to go to this extreme, perhaps it is time for them to take their relationship to an official level, especially since Ford seems to have gone above and beyond to get his “apology” right for Fiona.  Will Fiona’s new business partner threaten her relationship with Ford?  Ford has openly expressed not liking Max, but is there more to the story here?

“Bitch I’m not asking.”

Carl is continuing to change lives one dog at a time, but is still determined to get into West Point.  He later discovers that V knows Congressman Ubberman, who used to be one of her former dominatrix clients.  Carl asks V if she can help him at all since he needs his recommendation, but V hilariously explains that “S&M is not like riding a bike.”  After going through some of her old clothes, she finds her whip and “Lenora” is back and better than ever.  V shows off her dominatrix skills and gets Congressman Ubberman to agree to recommend Carl for West Point.  Mission accomplished!

“They made a list of the rapiest bars in the South Side and the Alibi is number 1.”

During the episode, Kev and V discover that they were included on this list.  While they are initially shocked, they begin to look around and notice all of the posters and art that glorify sex and objectify women.  Kev is determined to make the bar less “rapey,” to bring back female customers and more importantly, because “rapey is wrong,” as V gently reminds him.  Kev reminds everyone that they should not refer to women as “chicks” and should perhaps try out “vaginal enterprises.”  V is not amused and he goes with “women” instead.  Kev tries to make sure the television programming is friendly for women, drinks like “Sex on the Beach” will now just simply be “The Beach,” and he even creates consent forms as well to ensure maximum safety.  Kev begins tracking his process and creates a chalk board sign on the back of the door that says, “Hours Since Last Rapey Talk.”  Kev is excited to start off with 2, but quickly has to change this back to 0 after Mo White reveals the truth about his past and an underage girl.  Kev is determined to make women feel safe in the bar and finally places his sign on the window, which says, “Certifide Vagina Safe,” complete with a drawing of what I can only assume is a vagina with boxing gloves.  While spelling has never been Kev’s strong suit, he is definitely putting forth a lot of effort to make everyone feel safe at his bar.  I guess it’s the thought that counts.  Stay tuned!

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the FXX network’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 3 last night, I realized that women really do need to stick together.  Only I’m not so sure that this much alcohol, moon charts, and maximum gross outs should be involved.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Gang Beats Boggs:  Ladies Reboot,” Dee tries to do the “Boggs thing” once again, but she wants to make it even better.  Naturally, she comes up with the idea of an all Ladies Reboot with the Waitress, Artemis, Mrs. Kelly, and Mrs. Mac.  The Boggs competition doesn’t go exactly as planned and we quickly learn that some other characters have boarded the plane as well, threatening Dee’s chances at being crowned the winner.  My top 5 moments from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 3 are:

“You already did this.”

Dee is very excited to be on an all female flight to a women’s march, only her guests quickly learn that they are actually on the flight to compete in the Wade Boggs challenge.  Artemis reminds her that she already did this with the guys, but Dee hilariously explains that “it’s the same exact thing but it’s with women so it’s a new idea.”  Artemis and the others are not as excited to participate and suggest that they use a woman athlete or celebrity for inspiration, but Dee is not buying it saying, “The Boggs thing just feels more fun.”  “The Gang Beats Boggs” is one of my favorite episodes and I was instantly hooked as soon as I learned about the premise for this episode, but Dee definitely has big shoes to fill with her “Ladies Reboot.”

“In every reboot you need someone from the original to make a cameo.”

An excellent point actually, but Dee is not amused at all to see Frank on the plane.  Frank took this opportunity to score some points with the ladies on board, but Dee finds his presence to be a distraction.  To make matters worse, Dee receives a face time request on her phone from Charlie and Mac who ask her about doing the Boggs thing and make fun of her progress documented on her shirt so far.  Dee is determined more than ever to prove that she can win the competition and make her Boggs reboot even more successful.

“How do I keep winding up with you people?”

When the beer supply is running low, Dee looks for the help of the “man servant” on board and we are greeted by an old friend:  the waiter from Gugino’s.  I was instantly amused by his presence and “The Gang Dines Out” is another one of my all time favorite episodes.  Read more Ranking the top 5 episodes from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”  here.  Like always, Dee does not remember who he is, even though she is responsible for tying his shoelaces together, causing him to trip and fall into a plate of spaghetti.  Classic!  Dee tries to tell him that they are doing “the Boggs thing,” but he doesn’t have the slightest idea about what she is talking about.  Dee quickly learns that they do not have beer and that they will need to switch to Pink Wine for the remainder of the challenge.  Even though the obstacles keep coming Dee’s way, she is determined to keep going.

“Watching a woman do math scares me.”

This is probably the moment on the show that made me laugh the hardest.  Mrs. Kelly is absolutely hilarious combined with her partner in crime, Mrs. Mac, who is actually quite talkative on the flight since she ate a bunch of her Nicotine packs, actually taking her role as Commissioner very seriously.  When Dee realizes that they need to switch to wine for the rest of the competition, she starts to calculate the conversion of the alcohol percentage and comes up with the number 29 to win.  Dee has been in the lead, but the Waitress has been catching up to her very quickly.  When asked what her secret it is, she says, “I’m an alcoholic.”

“You’re my rival.  The only way to beat men is to compete against other women.”

Dee is determined to win the Boggs competition and initially recognizes her only true rival as the Waitress.  She tries to keep the Waitress motivated, but the Waitress gets distracted after hearing about Dennis and once again deciding to have sex with Frank.  Dee tries to get into first class and we are greeted by another old friend:  Gail the Snail.  Gail asks Dee if she lost her invitation, but Dee honestly responds by saying, “I didn’t invite you because you’re the worst.”  Dee tries throwing salt on Gail, which is really the only effective way to get rid of her, but Gail reveals that she has been playing the game too and is currently beating Dee.  Dee accepts the challenge, but no one saw Artemis coming, who decided to spike everyone’s magic tea, creating a “maximum gross out.”  Dee is too sick to continue on the flight and is forced to get off at North Dakota with 28 written on her forehead.  So close, but so far away.  Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Mac are the only ones to arrive in California, standing on the baseball mound not really knowing what to do next.  While “The Gang Beats Boggs” is a classic episode for me, Dee really did try her best to keep up with the men and gave us some laugh out loud moments for sure.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” season 13 episode 2: “The Gang Escapes”

Happy Friday TV fans!  Have you ever wanted to play the escape room game?  It’s a trend that is happening all over and of course the gang from Patty’s Pub has to get in on the action.  After watching the FXX network’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 2 last night, I realized that while teamwork may be the most important element needed to win the game, the gang always has something else up their sleeves so that they wind up the winners.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In Wednesday night’s episode, “The Gang Escapes,” the gang puts their best effort forward to excel at the escape the room game, but realize that a lot is at stake especially when “power plays” are introduced along with some much needed “riffing.”  My top 5 moments from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 2 are:

“Don’t judge me nerd.”

Dee is very excited to participate in the escape the room game and even begins looking for clues before she is technically allowed to.  We quickly find out that Dee has already played this particular escape game and was looking forward to showing off her detective skills to the group.  Only unfortunately for Dee, the gang decides to lock her in Dennis’s room, which is completely soundproof.  More on that later.  Dee tries to team up with the woman running the escape room game, but is upset when she doesn’t jump at the chance to get back at Dee’s friends, reminding Dee that the game is supposed to be about communication and teamwork and that this makes her uncomfortable.  Dee hilariously replies, “let’s see how comfortable you get when they get frustrated and start smashing all your shit,” proving that she knows her friends better than anyone else.  As if right on cue, the smashing begins.

“That’s power play.”

The gang begins to disagree on who the leader should be so they decide to break up into teams:  Mac and Dennis and Charlie and Frank.  Dennis feels the rush of power and is excited that they have a clue in their grasp.  However, he begins to get distracted by Frank’s obnoxious chewing of gum, recognizing it as a power play and classic angry Dennis makes an appearance.  Dennis begins freaking out and yells, “Can I riff?  I’m just riffing now.  Will you go get my gum?”  Mac does his best to obtain the gum from Charlie, but Frank also explains that this could be considered “power play,” confirming Dennis’s theory on becoming the “head cow.”  I don’t understand it any better than you do, but it is absolutely hilarious that both Dennis and Frank recognize the potential power play going on here.

“You didn’t say the safe word.”

While Dee is locked up in Dennis’s room, she accidentally triggers his laptop, which dims the lights and makes the bed even vibrate.  A message comes up on the laptop with Dennis surrounded by hearts and greets her by saying, “welcome sexual conquest.”  Dee begins freaking out, not wanting any part of her brother’s creepy sexual playground, but the message continues to go on while Stacey Q’s, “Two of Hearts” song begins to play, which you can listen to here!  She desperately tries to turn everything off, but is scolded when she doesn’t use the safe word.  I’m still wondering what that is.  Poor Dee!

“To us as men!”

Mac and Dennis finally come to an agreement with Charlie and Frank, as they all sit down for a summit to discuss the terms of their negotiation.  Charlie hilariously works in a new accent and says that they can commence with the turning of the key as long as he can remain “the speaker of the tribe.”  They commend themselves on a job well done as men and turn over the lock and key clues so they can win the game.  Only they quickly realize that this was only the first clue in the escape game and there are like 20 or 30 more things to complete.  Whoops.

“You really were the quarterback.”

In the beginning of the episode, Dee really wanted to show the gang that she was capable of being a good leader and said that she wanted to be the quarterback of the team.  While the gang initially reminded her that this is only a title reserved for men, Dee ends up changing their minds.  Dee escapes Dennis’s sex dungeon by climbing out the window to his surprise, as he mentions that no one else has been able to do so.  Dee accidentally falls off the ledge and says she is going to sue the makers of the game.  The woman who ran the game explains that nothing like this has ever happened before.  Luckily Dee is all right, but she is at the hospital with the rest of the gang by her side.  The woman reluctantly takes their photo even though they didn’t win the game, but they quickly convince her that they did in fact win in their own way.  The gang tells Dee, “You really were the quarterback,” allowing her to rejoice in a temporary moment of victory.  The gang certainly proved to be up for any challenge, but I’m still not sure they understand the concept of teamwork.  Either way, a win is a win and I am definitely on team Sunny!  Stay tuned!
