Ranking the top 5 moments from “Ash vs Evil Dead” season 3 episode 5: “El Brujo Especial”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 5 last night, I think it’s sometimes necessary to find your destiny by closing your eyes and trusting your instincts.  Although this decision seems pretty important when it involves ensuring you choose good over evil with no do-overs.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Baby Proof,” Kelly and Brandy continue to get attacked by demon Pablo, which causes Pablo’s spirit to enter into another realm.  Meanwhile, Ash makes the connection that the evil baby is his son and tries to give him a time out that ends in one of them being stuffed into a trunk.  My top 5 moments from Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 5 are:

“Don’t make me get my leg waxed.” 

Kelly and Brandy are still under attack from demon Pablo and Kelly quickly learns that the miniature Pablo torturing her wound is connected to the demon Pablo.  She strategically uses fire to severely hurt Pablo and screams out “hot tamale!”  While it seems like this can hold him off temporarily, Brandy takes matters into her own hands when she stabs Pablo to Kelly’s horror.  While Pablo does not die, Kelly does not want to face a world without him.  At the end of the episode, Kelly says that she is “done being fucked with,” and decides to go after Ruby herself.  While Kelly is not one to be messed with, is she any match for Ruby?

“You keep your hands off of my boomstick.”

In case you are not familiar, the “boomstick” is Ash’s shotgun which he has used in Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness.  It rarely leaves Ash’s side and when Heidi attempts to use it to attack the demon baby, Ash has to put her in check.  She clearly does not understand the history and sentimental value of this weapon, but we sure do!

Pablo becomes “El Brujo Especial.”

After Brandy stabs Pablo, Pablo’s spirit wakes up in a void between realms and he comes face to face with the naked lady who we now know is named Maritza, along with his dead uncle.  Pablo has brought the Kandarian dagger and his uncle explains that he can now become “El Brujo Especial,” which Pablo innocently confuses with the name of a beer.  The task is not an easy one, however; as Pablo must choose between darkness and light.  Pablo trusts his instincts and says he’s got this and successfully chooses the right path.  When he wakes up, Kelly is so happy to see him and kisses him, which leads to a very interesting reaction on Pablo’s part, “where’s Ash?”  Pablo has embraced his new destiny and knows that he needs to help Ash with his fight against evil.  It’s great to have Pablo back, but what powers and responsibilities come along with being “El Brujo Especial?”  We’ll have to stay tuned to find out, but perhaps Ruby is not the most powerful one of all anymore.

“Here I come!”

After seeing that the baby demon has a miniature chainsaw arm, Ash quickly puts two and two together and realizes that this must be his son.  “That’s a little me!”  While the baby demon has got the smiling and giggling down pat, his idea of fun and games is a little bit more than Ash can handle.  Each time the baby yells out “Here I come,” a duck toy with a beyond creepy laugh almost surrounds them.  As a side note, I’m still having nightmares about this duck.  In a panic, Heidi destroys the ducky toy which was a big mistake, causing her to lose her life and her head…not sure where that went.  The baby demon takes things to the next level by playing a game of hide and seek like no other, as he literally crawls into the body of dead Heidi using different body orifices, which will have your skin crawling.  Ash tries to tell him that he is “way too young to be going up there” but the baby demon refuses to listen, leaving Ash with only one choice:  to utilize a bowling ball to plug up one orifice to trap “Tiny Tim” there until he can get to the bottom of this.

Brandy makes the right decision.

After surviving the attack from demon Pablo, Brandy is still not sure what to believe.  Ash and Ruby both show up trying to get her to come with them and even after Ash reveals that he has the baby demon, which now looks like an ordinary baby, locked up in his trunk, she makes the right call.  Brandy trusts her gut and goes with Ash.  Ash is more than pleased and says, “This is the first time you ever called me Dad,” which at least gives him hope and a future with one of his children.  Now that Brandy has chosen her father over Ruby, will she be in even more danger?  While it seems likely, it looks like Ash is building up quite the miniature army against Ruby, but will it be enough to stop her for good?

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Mick” season 2 episode 18: “The Car”

Happy Wednesday!  After watching Fox’s The Mick season 2 episode 18 last night, I think it’s important to be able to use your street smarts and common sense if you are in a jam that you didn’t expect.  Whether you turn it into a game of football or even fishing, it’s sometimes necessary to think outside the box and use your head…literally in Mickey’s case, rather than wait for someone else to save the day.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Car” Mickey has had it with everyone being more involved with the internet than the real world and is determined to prove that a real life experience is much more rewarding.   Meanwhile, Jimmy buys a used cop car and meets a new friend from the future, Chip tries to embrace the false online persona he created to get closer to Sabrina’s friend, and Alba turns the tables on them out of boredom and love for the drama.  My top 5 moments from The Mick season 2 episode 18 are:

Mickey doesn’t like the internet.

In the beginning of the episode, Mickey is beyond frustrated when all of the kids are paying more attention to their phones than what is going on around them.  Mickey explains that she prefers the real world and “God forbid we have a human interaction.”  The kids mindlessly nod to her, clearly not paying any attention.  Mickey says, “Put your phones down.  Have an experience!”  When these motivational words don’t really make a dent, she is determined to go out and have an experience of her own.  She takes Ben along for the ride as well, hoping to change the mind of at least one kid.

Jimmy’s adventure.

Jimmy makes the impulsive decision to purchase a used cop car and it seems like he is living the dream, riding through the countryside with Mickey by his side and Ben locked in the back.  Mickey is not as thrilled, especially with all of the bullet holes decorating the windshields, but Jimmy insists that the car is built like a tank.  After he tries to convince her to take it for a ride herself, they go to switch seats and end up locking themselves out of the car with poor Ben in the back seat.  Trying not to panic, Mickey comes up with ways to get inside without alarming Ben, which include all sorts of smashing.  Jimmy tries to explain that they will be better off with a hanger and Mickey calmly asks, “It’s built like a tank but you can get into it with a coat hanger?”  Jimmy decides to go into town to fix the problem and save the day but becomes exhausted from the heat.  A stranger named Gary picks him up and Jimmy wakes up not knowing where he is, but completely fascinated with the smart car he is in.  At the end of the night, Jimmy says “thanks for the ride Morpheus.  Good luck in the future.”  Too bad he couldn’t predict that he would arrive hours too late after Mickey and Ben had already “saved the day.”

Chip pretends to be a fake online persona to get closer to Sabrina’s friend.

Sabrina seems thrilled to meet up with this guy she has been talking to online named Marcus, who is a tattoo artist.  Mickey is baffled by her lack of good judgment on this and asks, “are you sure he’s not a sick new murderer coming over to turn your skin into a cape?”  Sabrina doesn’t heed her warning, and Mickey gives up and tells her to have fun getting “chopped to bits by some nerd pervert.”  Chip later reveals to Alba that he is the one who created the online persona, Marcus in an effort to get closer to Sabrina’s friend, Holly.  His back story is beyond detailed and he even plans out his death from aids to explain his disappearance when the time calls for it.  “Creepy,” as Alba pointed out.

“It was hot.  I was bored.  I like drama.”

After learning about Chip’s fake online persona, Alba sees an opportunity in front of her that she just can’t ignore.  She tells Chip to give her $200 and she will help him with his plan so that he can “get the girl and get away clean.”  Chip takes the bait, not realizing that Alba has also approached Sabrina.  Sabrina explains that she knows the online persona is Chip and Alba explains that she will help her with her own plan to embarrass him in front of her friend, Holly if she pays her $200.  Alba is now successfully working both sides, carefully planning each detail with care.  Sabrina invites her friend, Holly over and Chip is chatting away with her when the doorbell rings.  In walks Marcus, who fits the online persona description to a T.  Chip is beyond confused and Alba explains that she hired a prostitute she found online to pretend to be Marcus.  Once everything is out in the open, Sabrina and Chip realize that they were both played by Alba and ask her why she did this.  She gives the perfect answer too when she merely explains that “it was hot.  I was bored.  I like drama.”  Go Alba!

Mickey saves the day…repeatedly.

After Ben gets locked in the cop car and Jimmy runs into town, Mickey realizes that it is up to her to save the day.  Her plan backfires, however; when she tries to smash a rock against the trunk of the car, which bounces back and hits her right in the face.  Even though her face is now gushing with blood, Mickey doesn’t give up here.  She begins smashing a piece of wood against the car repeatedly, screaming in complete frustration.  When this doesn’t work, she collapses to the ground and begins smacking her head against the trunk, which causes it to pop open.  It seems like everything is going to work out just fine, until the trunk closes and traps Mickey inside.  Mickey then rips through the back seat to get to Ben, but gets stuck in the process.  After a failed attempt to pull her out of there, she explains to Ben that they will need to play a new game which involves fishing.  Only the fishing rod is from her bra wire that Ben will need to help her retrieve with his eyes closed.  Ben is able to successfully use the wire to push the car into a different gear, only the car now begins to roll backwards to Mickey’s horror.  Mickey tries to calmly ask Ben to tell her what he sees and she panics when he says a pond.  Luckily, they are both OK and Mickey shouts in victory, “I saved us again!”   When asked how the real world was, Mickey refuses to admit that her real life experience did not turn out the way she originally planned.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Ash vs Evil Dead” season 3 episode 4: No Boys Allowed

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 4 last night, I think it’s about time that Brandy bonded with someone other than Ash, her dead grandpa, or the queen of hell.  After all, this poor girl needs a break.  While Kelly is an excellent choice for this, it’s clear that they will not be braiding each other’s hair anytime soon.  Rather, they will need to team up to keep the forces of evil from ripping them to shreds.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Unfinished Business,” Ash’s dad returns from the dead…again, but this time there are some good intentions behind it.  Meanwhile, Kelly and Brandy get attacked by a demon Pablo, Ruby learns that the Knights of Sumeria have surfaced again, and Ash finds out about the lost pages from “The Book of the Dead” before stumbling upon an unexpected bundle of…well maybe not joy.  My top 5 moments from Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 4 are:

Ash’s dad is back…again.

After using his chainsaw to rip his already dead dad to pieces in front of poor Brandy, Ash’s dad returns again, but this time as a ghost.  Ash is more tolerable this time since the ghost is not influenced by Ruby and tells his dad “it’s nice to see you even though I’m looking through you.”  Ash’s dad always wanted to be a ghost and it looks like his dream has finally come true.  He reveals that he has returned to show Ash something important and proceeds to take him on a journey to his past memories.  Ash seems confused at first and his dad comically asks, “haven’t you seen It’s a Wonderful Life?”  While the memory reveals that his dad had the best intentions to protect Ash from harm, it shows him something even more important:  a Knight of Sumeria who possessed the lost pages of “The Book of the Dead,” which could be the key to Ash destroying all evil.

Ruby tries to get Dalton to talk.

Ruby is not pleased to learn that the Knights of Sumeria have re-surfaced and immediately recognizes the threat that they could bring.  She tracks down Dalton who is a deadite now and temporarily pushes away the evil so that she can get information from him.  Ruby demands to know where the rift is that contains the lost pages, but Dalton is not about to betray his calling or his friends.  He lets her know that they have the Kandarian dagger and will use it against her, right before blowing off his own head in a valiant, but really gruesome way to protect his friends.  Farewell new guy.

“If you’re a deadite I’m in no fucking mood.”

Kelly proves once again why she is so bad-ass and amazing when she comes across Brandy, who is in desperate need of some female guidance.  After Brandy begins to whine about everything that has happened, Kelly cuts her off and says “hold up Daria.”  Kelly provides Brandy with a much needed reality check and tries to set her straight on Ash and Ruby.  While Kelly is a little rough around the edges at first, she does confide in Brandy about her own loss and tries to help her through it.  Unfortunately their female bonding is cut short when a demon Pablo jumps on the truck to attack them.  What’s the perfect background music for this violent attack?  You guessed it…Air Supply’s “All Out Of Love,” which really sets the mood for some serious ass-kicking.  Brandy and Kelly lock themselves up in Ash’s trailer, but Pablo continues to try and get in to retrieve the Kandarian dagger.  Pablo will stop at nothing to get in, which includes trying to wedge his way through Kelly’s open gash on her leg.  Talk about thinking outside of the box.

Ash learns about the lost pages from “The Book of the Dead.”

After re-visiting the past with his ghost dad, Ash decides that they need to return to the hardware cellar in present time to see if the lost pages are still there.  They discover a corpse that has been down there for way too long surrounded by empty cans of spam.  Ash’s ghost dad seems displeased by this, but Ash tries to remind him that the Knight of Sumeria was literally trying to survive since his dad locked him in a basement.  Ash comes across some type of hidden portal or rift in the wall and even sees Brandy’s friend Rachel.  While Ash desperately tries to put the pieces together, he gets attacked through the rift and has to put his chainsaw to work.  Ash’s dad has served his purpose and somewhat attempts to have a heart-to-heart moment with his son when he tells him that he will be a good father.  However, this moment is short-lived when Ash questions it and he admits “well not really.”  Either way, it appears that his dad has proven to be quite helpful, revealing the lost pages to Ash that could ultimately save the day.

Ash comes face to face with his demon offspring.

Ash tries to bring the fight right to Ruby and is surprised to find a woman chained up singing a lullaby in overwhelming fear.  Ash comes face to face with his demon offspring, although he doesn’t realize this just yet.  The woman begins to freak out and Ash tries to calm her down by telling her that he’s just sucking his thumb.  He quickly realizes that he is sucking someone else’s thumb and says, “ok that’s a choking hazard.”  Ash tries to get the woman out of there and tells her that he’s dealt with kids like this before just as the demon baby opens his mouth full of razor sharp teeth and the lights go out.  Even Ash is out of ideas here when he asks “what’s Norway for up shit creek?”  Will Ash be able to escape unharmed?  Is there still hope for Pablo?  Stay tuned for some more Ashy Slashy fun!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Mick” season 2 episode 17: “The Night Off”

Happy Wednesday!  After watching Fox’s The Mick season 2 episode 17 last night, I think it’s important to let those around us know how much they truly mean to us.  Expressing gratitude can go a long way, especially when you find yourself locked in a jail cell with a woman trying to make you into her “doll.”  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Night Off,” Alba is excited to take a much needed vacation weekend, leaving Mickey and the rest of the family in charge of a very important list.  Meanwhile, Jimmy makes a new friend, Chip tries to prove that he can be left at home unsupervised and Ben takes a lovely stroll down a back alley with his grandpa. My top 5 moments from The Mick season 2 episode 17 are:

Mickey listens to Ben’s story.

When Mickey agrees to let Ben tell her about his dream, she has no idea what she is getting herself into.  The story goes on and on and involves some type of werewolf robot but the details are not what are important.  The story goes on and on and seems never ending, as Ben follows Mickey around the house to fill her in on all of the details.  Mickey begrudgingly listens but gets to a point where she can’t take it anymore.  She tucks Ben in and he is confused since it is still light out.  “It will be dark when you close your eyes,” Mickey tells Ben in defeat and further explains that she doesn’t want to hear the end of the story “only because I want to marinate in the suspense.”  While this is only a part of Alba’s day, Mickey feels like she needs to go out to let off some steam since she just spent way too many hours invested into trying to follow Ben’s story.  After all, this is hard work.

Alba gets stuck in the train bathroom with a rat.

In the beginning of the episode, Alba is very excited to go on her spa weekend in New York.  When it seems like no one understands why she needs to get away, she reminds the family that “I am the glue that holds this house together.”  Alba is absolutely right and a vacation is just what she needs.  Only it doesn’t turn out the way she expects it to when she finds herself locked in the train bathroom with a rat.  While initially terrified of the rat, Alba warms up to him and even shares her booze with him.  The two hit it off and become friends, as Alba confides in the rat about her relationship with Mickey.  When the train conductor finally comes to let her out of the bathroom, the rat scurries off to her horror.

Jimmy makes a new friend.

After Mickey and Jimmy get into a fight after taking someone’s parking space, Jimmy meets his new best friend, Doug who jumps in to help out in the fight.  He even takes one guy out by punching in both eyes and explains that he “racooned him,” which is his signature move.  Jimmy is beyond impressed and spends the night out with his new friend.  He is thrilled to tell Mickey all about it and lets her know that they have a double date the next night.  Jimmy is beyond shocked when he learns that his new friend, Doug is gay and has a boyfriend.  He later explains to Doug that he is not homophobic and tells him about his friend, Anderson when he was growing up who used to practice kissing on him and ended up being gay.  Jimmy and Doug patch things up and it looks like the bromance will continue on after all.

Chip and Ben prove that they can take care of themselves…well maybe just Ben.

Ben is used to being left alone to his own devices and takes matters into his own hands, by pushing his grandpa, the Colonel in a wheel chair down the street.  Only the street leads him through several bad neighborhoods and dark alleys.  Ben even speaks to a prostitute who is offering up a good time and politely informs her that “we’re already having a great time but thanks!”  Chip, on the other hand, is not as capable as his younger brother.  When he learns he is home alone, he takes this opportunity to make a sandwich while shimmying around the kitchen as if it was his own personal dance floor.  It seems like everything is going fine until Chip slices off several of his fingers when he goes to cut the sandwich.  Chip screams out in horror and when Alba returns, there is blood everywhere.  This doesn’t faze Alba in the slightest, however; who tells Chip to find his fingers so she can get him to the hospital.

Mickey asserts her dominance.

Mickey is infuriated when Sabrina leaves the kids unattended, trying to get her to realize how much she does for the family.  When Sabrina tells her that it’s not her concern, Mickey takes things up a notch and handcuffs Sabrina to her younger brother, Ben, forcing her into babysitting duties.  Sabrina is not about to just accept this cruel twist of fate, however.  She chains up her grandpa, the colonel, to Mickey’s car, and the two are forced to hand over the keys to one another.  When Mickey leaves Sabrina to figure out what to do with Ben and the colonel, Sabrina is upset and storms into the restaurant.  Mickey warns her by saying, “don’t battle me…you will lose.”  Sabrina is up for the challenge, however; and both of them end up being arrested and thrown into a jail cell.  Sabrina is horrified by her surroundings and asks Mickey to protect her, but Mickey asks her to first admit how thankful she is for everything she does for her and the family.  Sabrina’s pride gets in the way and she quickly realizes she is on her own.  Sabrina’s nightmare is unfolding before her when her hair is being braided by another inmate who refers to her as a “doll.”  Mickey reminds her again that she can stop the madness if she just shows some gratitude.  Sabrina finally gives in, but not before the inmate rips out a chunk of her hair.  Mickey shrugs it off and tells her that “she earned it to be fair.”  It’s clear this hour in jail has changed Sabrina for the better as she offers to watch the kids for a few hours so that Mickey can relax in jail.  When the officer tries to explain to her that she needs to leave because she is free to go, Mickey asks what she needs to do to stay for a little while to get some much needed rest and relaxation.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Ash vs Evil Dead” season 3 episode 3: “Never get between a papa bear and his cub”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 3 last night, I agree that it’s important for Brandy to connect with her father, Ash and really get to know the relatives she has never met.  That being said, perhaps we need to specify that these relatives should actually be alive.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Apparently Dead,” it seems like Ash is finally getting through to his daughter, Brandy.  However, showing up late for the funeral is not really the best way to show his support, especially when he arrives out of the coffin her mother is about to be buried in.  Meanwhile, Ruby and Ash finally come face to face, Pablo asks the naked lady out for coffee, and it looks like the new guy, Dalton is out of luck.  At least we get a chance to listen to Joan Jett and the Blackhearts song, “Crimson & Clover” which seems more than appropriate after Ash referred to Ruby as a “black-hearted hell beast.”  My top 5 moments from Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 3 are:

Brandy is willing to give Ash a second chance.

Poor Brandy has been through so much and it’s hard not to blame her for initially shying away from her father, Ash.  Ash is not giving up, however; and shows up to support her at her mother’s funeral.  Sure he takes the flowers from the funeral parlor to give to Brandy, but it’s the thought that counts.  When asked if he was Candy’s husband, Ash quickly replies with “yea for like an hour and a half…but lovingly.”  While Ash is not about to filter himself in front of Brandy, it’s clear that he wants to protect her and is trying to be there for her in the best way he can.

“We all grieve in our own way.”

Just when it seems like things are going unexpectedly well at the funeral, Ash learns that Candy’s head has been reattached to her body.  He sneaks out undetected to make sure that she is not a deadite and confesses to Candy that “you were cursed with a dumb name but I’ll always remember you or never forget you again.”  While the sentiment is there, it’s short-lived, as Ash gets tossed into the coffin with the demon who has taken over Candy.  Being stuck in tight quarters leads to some unwanted grabbing and fondling and Ash tries to protect his dignity by saying “no means no!”  He successfully detaches her head again, ending the threat and asks “how was that for you?”  It seems like Ash has protected his daughter from seeing her undead mother, but heads will roll…literally when Ash arrives to the funeral late by stepping out of the coffin.  As if this wasn’t bad enough, Candy’s head is stuck between his legs and rolls out to the floor to the shock and horror of Brandy and all of the guests.

“If it ain’t the she devil herself.”

In episode 2, we learned that Ruby was passing herself off as Brandy’s guidance counselor, Ms. Prevett.  Ruby finally reveals herself to Ash at the funeral parlor and tries to tell him she’s sorry for his loss, but Ash is not buying this act for one second.  Brandy tries to get him to see reason and explains that Ms. Prevett has always been there for her, but Ash explains that “little Miss Muffet here is a black-hearted hell beast.”  He tries to get Brandy to understand that she is the one responsible for turning her mother and best friend into demons, but clearly this is too much for Brandy to handle, as she decides she wants to go live with Ms. Prevett.  Ash is not about to let Ruby win this battle however; and warns Ruby that you “never get between a papa bear and his cub.”

“Naked lady, I think there is a dress code.”

Pablo, Kelly, and Dalton arrive late to the funeral and Pablo begins hallucinating again.  The naked lady gives more warnings and tells him that he needs to retrieve the Kandarian Dagger, which is the key to his salvation.  Pablo appreciates the warning but is looking to get to know the naked lady a little better.  He suggests that they go out for coffee sometime and doesn’t get a complete denial I suppose.  While she doesn’t accept his invitation, she does remind him to accept his destiny so I guess there is some hope there.  Kelly, Pablo, and Dalton head off on a road trip to the start of all of the evil…the cabin in the woods.  Only, the cabin isn’t there anymore.  After they find the dagger, evil surrounds them and Dalton is brutally stabbed.  He tries to tell Kelly that it was Pablo to her disbelief before revealing that he is now a deadite.  Pablo rushes in to the save the day by striking Dalton with his truck.  After all, “no one fucks with the ghost beaters.”

“Brandy, you know your grandpa is dead right?”

Ruby will stop at nothing to place a divide between Ash and his daughter, Brandy and decides that a distraction is necessary to really seal the deal.  She brings back Ash’s dad from the dead who shows up at the house for a quick shower and to get to know his granddaughter, Brandy.  Seems harmless enough, right?  Ash does not see it this way, however; trying to delicately explain to his daughter that her grandpa’s “head was squashed like a fucking watermelon.”  Brandy refuses to listen and Ash and his dad begin a violent fight that almost leads to Ash’s face being burned off by the stove burner.  After his dad tells him he “likes his kids cooked medium rare,” Ash turns the tables on him and says, “I love the smell of old man in the morning.”  The chainsaw arm is back and he brutally destroys his dad…right in front of poor Brandy who is now caked in blood.  This drives Brandy even further away, even though Ash tries to tell her that he was already dead.  Oh well…”kids!”  While it seems like Ruby’s plan is working right now, Ash will need to step it up on a notch so that Brandy can give him a second…or wait maybe a third chance.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Mick” season 2 episode 16: “The Accident”

Happy Wednesday!  After watching Fox’s The Mick season 2 episode 16 last night, Jimmy provided us with a valuable lesson when he said “sometimes you gotta break the law to do the right thing.”  Well maybe it’s not the best lesson, but it’s clear that Mickey, Alba, and Jimmy are there to help Ben out of a jam, no matter what it takes.  Now that’s family.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Accident,” Mickey is outraged when Ben is excluded from Troy’s sleepover and is not about to let this go quietly.  However, things don’t go exactly as planned with Ben runs into some unexpected trouble once he is there.  Meanwhile, Chip tries to win over the approval of his sister, Sabrina by agreeing to make her a fake ID, but not without getting something in return. My top 5 moments from The Mick season 2 episode 16 are:

“Troy sounds like a dick.”

When Mickey learns that every boy in Ben’s class was invited to Troy’s sleepover except for Ben, she says out loud what we’re all thinking:  “Troy sounds like a dick.”  While Mickey doesn’t filter her thoughts in front of Ben, it’s clear that she is appalled by this exclusion and suggests that Ben have his own sleepover instead.  Jimmy even agrees to let Ben have “full access” to his movie collection.  When Mickey learns this isn’t possible, her and Jimmy fear the worst:  that if Ben is “cut off now, there might be no coming back.”  This brings Mickey back to her own days growing up and reminds everyone about what happened to her former friend, Marissa who had the audacity to get boobs before the rest of the girls.  Mickey explains that they “86ed her and now she’s a dentist.”  While Alba points out that being a dentist is actually a great profession, Mickey closes the argument by reminding them that it’s gross.  Either way, she is not about to let history repeat itself and have Ben left out in the cold.  Mickey pays Troy’s mother a visit and makes her feel bad enough so that Ben can enjoy the sleepover with the rest of his friends.

Ben has an accident and calls Mickey to rescue him.

Mickey is enjoying her sleep and is interrupted when Ben calls her in a panic to let her know that he has had an accident.  She initially mistakes this for a car accident, but then Ben explains that he wet the bed and doesn’t know what to do.  Alba was eagerly listening in at the door, which concerns Mickey about her boundary issues, but doesn’t have time to argue about this now since she needs all hands on deck.  Mickey, Jimmy, and Alba rush over to Troy’s house so they can help him.  Alba wants to know “what is our mission objective,” which seems like a valid question.  Mickey assumes the mission will be easy enough:  throw the dry pajamas and sheets up to the window and Ben can toss the dirty ones down.  Mickey gets the saturated fabric in her face twice, however; but she keeps her composure.  After all Ben is “lucky he’s cute because he is useless,” according to his Aunt.  It seems like the mission objective is complete, until they realize that Ben has peed through the entire mattress.  It looks like Jimmy will need to take a turn at saving the day.

Jimmy’s mission.

After they realize that the last mattress is toast, Jimmy accepts his mission and promises to get a mattress to replace it.  Mickey asks where he is going to find a mattress that late and Jimmy replies with “I didn’t say it would be new.”  He stealthily sneaks into a motel and even takes a break to enjoy some well-deserved snacks and TV.  Mickey and Alba run into their own dilemma during this time, however; and are now stuck on top of Troy’s roof while Ben accidentally locks the windows inside.

“Will you be the Maggie to my Jake?”

It’s clear that Chip has been spying on his sister, Sabrina and her friends for a while which is a little creepy.  Especially when he complains about them not getting naked and his friend points out “dude, that’s your sister.”  However, Chip is in luck when he overhears that Sabrina is in need of a fake ID to get into a club.  He is excited to help out his sister and to use this as leverage so that they can elevate their relationship from brother and sister to….best friends of course.  Sabrina seems hesitant at first to say yes explaining that “we can’t be seen in public with you.”  She eventually agrees but tries to outsmart Chip and his friend by updating their wardrobe and then leaving them behind.  Chip anticipated this, however; and left her with a Harriet Tubman ID to her horror and explains that they will need to take them along as originally agreed upon if they want the real IDs.  It seems like everything is going according to plan when Sabrina and her friends easily get into the club.  However, when Chip steps up to the bouncer, they are “at capacity.”  Chip tries to get the bouncer to see reason and even his friend gets in because his ID still says Jaden Smith.  Poor Chip is left alone and even his driver abandons him.

“100 percent saturation…not a chance.”

When Alba and Mickey are stuck on the roof awaiting Jimmy’s appearance with the new mattress, Mickey comes up with a plan for them to jump off the roof and land on the mattress.  When her plan is a success with her only getting some minor injuries, Jimmy arrives and hits her with the car, which then causes the mattress he just obtained to be ruined as well.  Luckily Mickey is ok, but now they are down two mattresses and Alba is still stuck on the roof.  They have only one choice now to protect Ben’s reputation: “100 percent saturation.”  Mickey lets Ben do what he does best, as he climbs into bed with each of the boys and wets the bed so that they can wake up to become “pee brothers.”  While it was a close call, Ben is in the clear for now and is even invited to the next upcoming sleepover.  Mickey and Jimmy are relieved but it seems like they are forgetting something very important…Alba is still on the roof sleeping.  It looks like they will need another mission objective after this one.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Ash vs Evil Dead” season 3 episode 2: “I need a Por Favor”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 2 last night, I think it’s important to remember what’s truly important in terms of fatherhood.  While bonding and swapping stories may seem like the right play, perhaps filtering them for what’s appropriate might come in handy…. unless you are Ash Williams that is.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Booth Three,” Ash is having some trouble connecting with his daughter, Brandy.  While he desperately tries to be a “cool dad,” it looks like he will have to find something more meaningful to connect to her on.  Meanwhile, Ruby has set her sights on Brandy and is posing as the school’s guidance counselor, Pablo is hearing voices, Dalton reveals he is gluten free, and Ash gets into a sticky predicament at the sperm bank.  My top 5 moments from Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 2 are:

Pablo is hearing voices.

The ancient text from “The Book of the Dead” is back and insists on re-surfacing on Pablo’s body.  While it seems like it is merely causing him some discomfort at first, the side-effects are getting worse.  Pablo begins hearing voices and even hallucinates about a naked woman in a mask.  She warns him that only his uncle’s magic can save him, but will Pablo take her advice?  Kelly refuses to believe that Pablo’s soul is in mortal danger, despite the warning from Dalton.  She knows that Pablo can fight it and is nothing but good, but Dalton thinks he could still go demon.  Either “he kills us or we kill him.”  Perhaps there is a happy medium between all of the killing that Kelly can come up with to save her best friend.

Ash teaches the gang about “Multi-tasking.”

After listening to Dalton provide some history on the “demon woman of fire,” which is clearly Ruby, we learn about his role in protecting the prophesied one.  Ash has heard enough, however; and expresses his gratitude to Dalton:  “thanks for the scoop poindexter.”  Ash has a lot on his mind with dealing with the threat of evil and accepting his new role as a father so he suggests that they “gotta do that thing when you’re driving in a car putting on deodorant…what’s that called?”  Oh right…multi-tasking.  While it seems like a good enough suggestion, will Ash be too distracted to handle the deadites heading his way?

Ruby has a career change.

In the beginning of the episode, we learn that Ash’s daughter, Brandy’s guidance counselor has been trying to reach her, which seems innocent enough.  However, we quickly learn that Mrs. Prevett is Ruby in disguise.  She eagerly comforts Brandy while pressing her for information, but what does she want with Ash’s daughter?  Well after giving birth to a baby from “The Book of the Dead” that will literally eat your face off, she is ready for her child to grow up to be the new prophesied one and must eliminate Ash and his seed, Brandy in order for this to happen.  We learn that her baby was “born from the image of Ash but will be nothing like him,” so it looks like Ash will need to get this fatherhood thing down quickly if he’s going to be ready.

“I’m one of those cool dads like you see in the movies.”

Brandy doesn’t really seem to be buying into Ash’s “cool dad” act too much especially after losing her mother and her best friend in such a violent and horrible way.  Ash decides to try and bond with Brandy, which seems like the right call, until he goes into specific details about his sexcapades with her mom, forcing poor Brandy to tune out Ashy Slashy with the radio.  It is going to take some time for Brandy to accept Ash into her heart, but hopefully she will trust her father enough to protect her from the forces of evil.

“That is a long sad story.”

Ash pays his favorite sperm bank a visit and requests “Booth Three,” but comes to the realization that someone else might be using his sperm and that he could have a whole football team of Williams kids ready to knock down his door and ruin his life.  He requests a “por favor” and asks if anyone has used his sperm which is against the law.  Luckily for Ash, he has brought a 20 percent off coupon to his store.  After compromising on 30 percent off, Ash is in business.  He takes this opportunity to occupy Booth Three with one of his favorite dirty magazines, but things go horribly wrong when evil bursts in and Ash literally gets attacked by the woman in his magazine.  While the deadites are clearly after Ash’s sperm to destroy any future threats, Ash’s fantasy quickly becomes a nightmare.  Right before he shoves the magazine in a drawer the woman screams that “I’m not finished yet,” and Ash teaches her a valuable lesson when he explains “that’s what they all say baby.”  While this all happens before Ash can obtain the information he needs, it’s apparent that Ruby is behind this, clearing the way for her own baby to rule the world and destroy everything and everyone in its path.

Throw-back Sunday: Ranking the top 5 episodes from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

It’s Throw-Back Sunday TV Fans! I hope you are enjoying your weekend.  I have been recently re-watching one of my favorite series of all time; FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and I have been discussing it with a lot of enthusiastic fans like you.  I couldn’t believe how easy it was to quote line for line some of my favorite scenes without even thinking about it. While we anxiously await the series to return with new episodes later in 2018, you can binge-watch to your heart’s desire on Hulu.  Out of the 134 episodes of the series, it was extremely difficult to narrow this list down to my top 5 episodes and I did need to include some honorable mentions as well.  You’ll see I went a little overboard with my honorable mentions, but the episodes are just that good and funny.  Whether you are familiar with phrases like “Rum Ham,” “Green Man,” or “Charlie Work,” there are plenty of laugh out loud moments for you in each episode.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not yet watched the series.  My top 5 episodes from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia are:

“The Gang Dines Out” (Season 8, episode 9)

“I can’t believe this.  They still haven’t paid tribute.  It’s been ten minutes.  Not a wave, not a nod.”

In this episode, Frank and Charlie are out to dinner at Gugino’s restaurant and are celebrating their anniversary of moving in together, Mac and Dennis are enjoying their monthly dinner, and Dee is dining alone because she got a Groupon that expires that evening.  Frank and Charlie and Mac and Dennis argue over whether or not they should all sit together, but become quickly agitated when each party doesn’t “pay tribute” to the other.  One of the funniest moments is when Mac and Charlie share a longing gaze across the restaurant, clearly wanting to put the pettiness aside so they can enjoy a meal together.  Meanwhile, Dee doesn’t want her friends to spot her eating alone and tries to convince strangers and even the waiter to sit down with her.  At the end of the episode, it seems like all chaos is about to break loose when the waiter trips and falls with a plate of spaghetti because Dee tied his shoelaces together.  The friends all laugh and cheer and toast to one another, while the poor waiter tries to get someone to pay attention to the fact that he is actually hurt.

“Mac and Dennis Move to the Suburbs” (Season 11, episode 5)

“Oh that Wally loves to say ‘it’s a hot one’ when I already know it’s a hot one.  Cause I’m standing outside in this hot one.  Thanks a lot, Wally.  You know what?  Tell me about future weather.  Don’t tell me about present weather…”

My top 5 list would not be complete without including this episode which is probably one of the few that I laughed the entire way through and was almost crying from laughing so hard.  Part of the reason is because I live in the suburbs and immediately could appreciate everything Mac and Dennis were dealing with.  The overwhelming sense of silence can drive you completely insane when you hear alarms beeping or chirping or the whirring of a fan to an elevated level.  Plus you have the over-friendly neighbors who just don’t know what to say when trying to make small talk.  Dennis actually has a mental breakdown when his neighbor, Wally keeps telling him “it’s a hot one” which is absolutely hilarious.  The commute to the city is also extremely funny as Dennis gives road rage a new name, viciously tearing into every person who cuts him off.  He takes his anger out on poor Mac who has just been trying to cook him a decent home meal of Mac & Cheese.  The episode gets really dark when Mac forgets to feed Dennis Junior, their adorable dog, and then later tells Dennis that he is “eating the dog.”  I mean of course “Dennis would like Dennis.”  While it’s twisted and insane, you can’t help laughing over the fact that these two have gone completely mental over their move to the suburbs.

“Nightman Cometh” (Season 4, episode 13)

“Ok you know what , you guys have me up to here.  I don’t want to be here, okay?  Now I have to play the piano and I’m all up here.”

If you’re a fan of It’s Always Sunny, then you absolutely have to know the lyrics to the Dayman song, especially “you’re a master of karate and friendship for everyone.”  Charlie has the brilliant idea to put on a play and really dig deep into the character of Dayman.  However, his friends insist on changing the script and giving him way too much input, infuriating him along the way.  He invites the waitress to watch the performance and proposes to her.  While this doesn’t go exactly as planned, the play itself is beyond hilarious and everyone plays their part perfectly.

“Charlie Rules the World” (Season 8, episode 8)

“I wonder what it is.  It’s not much…just a box of spiders.  What the hell?  Well while we’ve been sitting here, my followers have burned your land, they’ve raped your people, and they’ve destroyed your tribe.  You thought you could make a move on me, Queen of Thrones?  Well, you were wrong.”

What could be better for Charlie than a real chance to rule the world?  Well, it’s through an online video game that Dee introduces him to, but the two quickly become beyond obsessed.  Dee says “it’s like when I’m doing good in the game, I’m doing good in life.”  Charlie agrees and says “oh I want to make fun of you for saying that but I kind of know what you mean.”  Charlie quickly learns the best way to “win” at the game and even has Dee acting like his servant, which she agrees to since she is so desperate to do well in the game.  When Charlie meets up with the Queen of Thrones from the game, she actually seems like a really sweet girl who just wanted to get to know him and have lunch, but Charlie is not about to let anyone threaten his standing in the game.  Even Mac and Frank become obsessed, but Dennis is not about to let an online video game take over their lives.  He quickly realizes that they all have the same password, “paddyspub” and deletes all of their characters and ends the game because it was simply irritating him.

“Chardee MacDennis:  The Game of Games” (Season 7, episode 7)

“Yes now in the spirit of tradition, I propose that we begin the ritual of sportsmanship.  Good luck to you sir.  And you sir.  I do hope you have a good game, miss.  And you sir….give the illusion of respect to your opponent.  Things are about to get real dark, real quick.”

So my number one pick for best episode absolutely has to go to “Chardee MacDennis:  The Game of Games.”  For me, this episode came out of nowhere in the season and was hilarious from start to finish.  A rainy boring day at the bar turns into a chaotic battle between the minds.  The rules of the game don’t really make sense but that’s part of the charm.  After the gang begins their ritual of sportsmanship, they smash their glasses to the ground and begin war cries that are unbelievably funny.   While the game has 3 levels:  Mind, Body, and Spirit; there are puzzles, trivia, and public humiliation mixed in.  And don’t forget that drinking is clearly an important part as well.  When we get to some of the trivia questions, we quickly realize that the gang must have been clearly intoxicated when documenting these.  For example, “all right what is the greatest band in the world?”  Dee immediately responds with “Chumbawamba” and Frank is confused on how this could possibly be trivia.  Or how about “Dennis is asshole.  Why Charlie hate?”  Charlie doesn’t think he wrote this question but then comes around when he finds out the answer is “because Dennis is a bastard man.”  The gang even anticipated that Mac will get angry later in the game and try to flip the board so they secured it to the bar and it turns out they were absolutely right, proving just how well they know their opponents. Frank turns the tables later on, however; when he is in the time out cage and realizes that Dee and Dennis are not drinking alcohol to throw off their opponents.  Even though Charlie and Mac are able to immediately advance to the last level because of this, Dee and Dennis still come out on top and win, smashing Charlie and Mac’s game pieces to…well pieces.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Mick” season 2 episode 15: “The Juice”

Happy Wednesday!  After watching Fox’s The Mick season 2 episode 15 last night, I am brought back to a valuable lesson from one of my favorite films, “The Girl Next Door,” when the main character learns that “the juice is worth the squeeze.”  In Mickey’s case, it seems that she hasn’t quite really thought through the consequences of getting Chip and his friend hooked on the juice of gambling, but as long as it’s a win in the end, she’ll take it.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Juice,” Mickey agrees to teach Chip and his friend the art of gambling while Jimmy interferes with Sabrina’s new relationship to protect the integrity of the women’s soccer team.  Meanwhile, Alba is convinced that the colonel is playing mind games with her, unleashing a terrifying fury that cannot be stopped until she gets to the truth.  My top 5 moments from The Mick season 2 episode 15 are:

Sabrina has a girlfriend.

Mickey and the rest of the family are shocked when there is a strange girl in their kitchen wearing Jimmy’s boxers.  We quickly learn that she is Sabrina’s new girlfriend, Alexis, to the shock of her family.  When Mickey implies that she is a “les,” Sabrina becomes infuriated and tells Mickey to “stop trying to label me you ancient bag of sand.”  Mickey tries to defend herself but Sabrina doesn’t want to hear it, focused primarily on her new romantic interest.  However, she becomes quite needy when Alexis explains that she has to get ready for soccer practice, as Sabrina doesn’t want to compete with anyone or anything for attention.

“There’s no juice in that bet.”

Mickey walks in on Chip and his friend placing bets on a football game and quickly schools them.  They are beyond impressed with her gambling skills and they ask Mickey to teach them how to gamble.  Mickey initially plays the parent card and explains that it wouldn’t be right, but quickly changes her mind when Chip offers to cut her in on any of their winnings.  They soon learn that the “first rule of gambling is to bet with your head, not your heart.”  Mickey randomly finds a Russian website to place bets on and suggests 100, which Chip’s friend misinterprets for $100,000 that he puts on his dad’s credit card.  The boys have certainly got the juice now and are in for a world of trouble if they can’t figure out how to come up with the money.  Luckily for them, Mickey always has a plan.  Not to say it’s the best plan, but it’s better than waiting around for the Russians to come collect their winnings for sure.

The colonel is playing mind games with Alba.

The rest of the family has pretty much given up on the colonel, refusing to chip in to take care of him.  Alba has taken on this main responsibility and brings a ray of sunshine into the colonel’s world, taking him out to the terrace and chatting with him about her day.  However, this takes a dark turn when the colonel begins mysteriously moving on Alba.  Every time she turns around, he is in a new spot.  She explains that once or twice might have been a coincidence, but three times…no way.  Alba decides that she is going to make the colonel talk no matter what it takes.  She even gets out a blowtorch to show that she means business, but soon realizes that it was Ben moving the colonel around to reach high cabinets and apologizes quickly to the colonel for her mistake.

Jimmy does some research.

Jimmy confronts Sabrina about her new relationship and tells her that he believes she’s “in it for the celebrity.”  After all, Alexis is a very talented soccer player and has a very important game coming up.  Jimmy becomes overly invested in protecting the team, explaining that “I was that girl.”  Sabrina tells him to give it up because his days of fame were over 20 years ago, but Jimmy is not about to throw in the towel just yet.  He begins his “research” on the talent and stats of the team, refusing to let Alexis throw it all away because of Sabrina.  When Sabrina asks for Jimmy’s help later on, he ends up getting surrounded by the entire team who attack him viciously.  Don’t get me wrong, Jimmy was not the helpless victim, as he throws in some punches of his own, even slamming one girl down on the hood of a car.  When Jimmy is taken away in the ambulance, he says he won’t press charges because they have a very important game tomorrow.

Mickey’s plan works.

It seems like there will be no way out of losing a $100,000 bet, but Mickey comes up with the brilliant plan to put the juice to work and place a matching bet on amateur women’s soccer when she listens to Jimmy talk about Sabrina’s impact on the team’s star player.  However, everything begins to back-fire when she learns that Jimmy gets himself involved so that Alexis will make the right choice and dedicate herself to the team.  Mickey is horrified by this, but everything works out the way it should when the attack on Jimmy causes the team to have to forfeit as a result of their actions.  Mickey is beyond thrilled and saves the day, but perhaps she should take a break from gambling for now.

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 1 season premiere last night, I think it’s important to stick to what you’re good at.  In Ash’s case, this means fighting the good fight against evil while keeping a good sense of humor about it all.  In case you have never watched Ash vs Evil Dead before, you should immediately watch the films: Evil Dead 1 & 2 followed by Army of Darkness.  Actually, you can even skip Evil Dead if in a rush and go straight to Army of Darkness for some campy horror fun with outrageous laugh out loud moments.  Seriously, Bruce Campbell is a genius.  Many years later, Ash is back with his chain-saw arm and is pretty much the only thing standing in the way of “The Book of Dead.”  Now that you are all caught up, please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the season 3 premiere yet.  In last night’s episode, “Family,” Ash is living well in his hometown, Elk Grove, slashing high prices left and right with his new business venture.  He gets an unexpected surprise, however; when he learns that he has a daughter named…wait what was it?  Don’t worry Ash, you’ll get the hang of fatherhood soon enough.  Meanwhile, Ruby is back and is unleashing some sort of hell, Kelly is rocking some serious leather, and Pablo’s not out of the woods just yet when the words of the dead resurface on his body.  My top 5 moments from Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 1 are:

Ashy Slashy’s.

In the beginning of the episode, it seems that Elk Grove has finally settled down and put evil in its rear view mirror.  What’s next for Ash?  I guess the only thing that makes sense is for him to open up a “hardware store/sex toy emporium” named “Ashy Slashy’s.”  I mean he is slashing high prices with his legendary chainsaw arm which really gives it the dramatic effect that proves he means business.  Plus, he’s getting to work with Pablo again and enjoying some well deserved margaritas along the way.  Unfortunately for Ash, “The Book of Dead” has resurfaced and is coming for Elk Grove.

Ruby is back.

Ruby, played by the absolutely gorgeous, Lucy Lawless is back and sporting some fierce platinum blonde hair.  Every time it seems like she may be dead for good, she resurfaces, causing trouble wherever she goes.  While we see her chanting from the “Book of the Dead” and getting ready to give birth to something we can only assume is pure evil, where does she stand with Ash and the gang?  Is Ruby out for revenge or is she scheming something new?  We’ll have to stay tuned to find out, but it’s great to have one of our fan-favorites back for season 3.

Kelly shows up with a new friend.

As the episode went on, a mysterious guy dressed in leather seemed to be hanging around Elk Grove quite a lot, keeping a close eye on Ash and Pablo.  Later, when Ash and the gang are under attack by a deadite, he shows up with Kelly to help fight the good fight.  We learn that his name is Dalton and he is a “Knight of Sumeria,” which according to Kelly means he is a big fan, but it seems like we have a lot to learn about him.  Either way, it looks like he’s on the side of good for now.

Ash has a wife…and a daughter.

When a woman claims to be Ash’s wife, he reminds her that he “never forgets a rack but faces are a little fuzzy.”  Seems like a valid point, until his wife snaps him back to reality reminding him about a drunken night long ago where he met “Candy Bar,” otherwise known as Candace Barr.  While the memories come rushing back, Ash insists that he can’t have a daughter because he was using his “lucky rubber.”   Ash’s daughter, Brandy Barr is in high school and is literally about to be attacked by forces of evil.  As Brandy and her friend, Rachel quickly realize that the Cougar school mascot has moved way past creepy into something full on terrifying, it’s up to Ash and his former wife, Candace to step in and save the day.

“Sorry jailbait my dance card is a little full.”

When Brandy’s friend, Rachel gets possessed by a deadite, she puts on quite the musical performance, even bringing out an old favorite, “Ashy Slashy.”  Ash is not distracted by this in the slightest however, knocking her out with a trombone and telling her to “blow.”  Unfortunately for Ash’s former wife, Candace, she gets decapitated with a cymbal to the horror of her daughter.  After the deadite taunts Ash about destroying him and his seed, he puts her in her place and cleverly uses a harp as an interesting choice of weapon.  After all, his dance card is full.  This now leaves Ash to pick up the pieces and help his daughter; Sandy…wait was it…Mandy?  I’m sure Ash will learn that her name is Brandy in time, but it’s good to have some fresh faces join the cast to add for some more campy horror fun.  Either way, the family is back together again and they’re coming for evil…right after Ash smokes a jay.
