Ranking the top 5 moments from “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” season 8 episode 9: “It’s Time For The Apocalypse”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the FX network’s American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 9 last night, a lot of our unanswered questions have finally been answered, but we still have a lot left to cover in next week’s finale.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Fire and Reign,” Michael takes the attack directly to the coven, two “coked up nerds” plot the end of the world, and Mallory’s powers are put to the test.  We also continue to get some fun Easter eggs along the way.  My top 5 moments from American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 9 are:

“Well Satan might want to get a paternity test.”

In this episode, we continue to catch up with Jeff and Mutt, played by Peters and Eichner, who are not that impressed with the Antichrist, Michael Langdon.  Jeff hilariously makes fun of Langdon and mocks him saying, “I don’t know what I am supposed to do” and Mutt hilariously points out that Jesus didn’t have it easy either and “that’s why he went to the desert bro.”  We know that Billy Eichner’s other character, Brock, ends up in the wasteland for quite some time as well.  Ms. Venable also gets some more screen time in this episode and is clearly looking for more responsibility, as important as booking the “mile high escorts” is.  Even though her personality is not the warmest, Jeff and Mutt do recognize how much she has done for them and tell her that they want to save her and have her lead her very own Outpost in the apocalypse.  And so we continue connecting the dots.

“They’re just gone.”

Michael is still filled with rage and anger, desperately looking to take his revenge out on the witches.  Dinah sells out the witches for a 13 episode talk show, which is amusing because AHS used to be 13 episodes that sometimes had the tendency to drag toward the end.  This season, we will only get 10 episodes, but I’m now wondering if that is truly enough time to wrap everything up.  We’ll have to stay tuned to find out.  Michael puts Ms. Mead to work and she whips out her shotgun arm, taking out Zoe and Queenie, explaining why we do not see them in the future with the other witches.  Cordelia is beyond devastated, especially when she tries to tap into their souls and finds nothing.  Madison conveniently takes this time to explain what she witnessed Michael do back in Murder House and Cordelia realizes that she needs to figure out something fast to protect the rest of her girls.  It is also important to note that Misty was conveniently not in this episode but still mentioned, hinting that perhaps the mud surrounding the swamps could be used for Cordelia’s spell to help hide and protect her girls in the future.

“This sounds like the plot of The Omen 3.”

We learn that nerds, or “coked up nerds” in this case, can really take over the world.  Jeff and Mutt use Ms. Mead to communicate with Michael.  They are unimpressed with his desire to run for president and hilariously point out that this sounds like the plot of one of The Omen movies.  After all, Michael does not have too much material to work with on how to be the Antichrist.  Maybe someone can get him a How To guide?  Jeff and Mutt decide that they want to destroy the world instead and use Ms. Mead to convince Michael to jump on the bandwagon, proving that manipulation can be an extremely powerful skill.

“This bitch can travel through time?”

As Cordelia recognizes the very real threat against her coven, she explains to Mallory that she must survive, recognizing that Mallory may be the only witch who can truly get them out of this.  Mallory wants to help her sisters, but the test on her powers is dangerous and could lead to death.  Myrtle points out that it will be like the “blind leading the blind,” referencing that Cordelia was once blind herself, as they try to help Mallory go back in time to save Anastasia, the daughter of Alexei Nikolaevich.  You may know about Anastasia from history or from the beloved animated classic, but this version of Anastasia possessed some kind of magical abilities, only they were not strong enough to protect her family.  In history, there was a lot of mystery that surrounded Anastasia’s death, as many impostors claimed to be her.  She was also known as “The Lost Princess,” which connects back to Mallory.  Mallory goes back in time to try and help her, but fails.  She is brought back to present time; however, proving that she is worthy of this power, which will definitely come in handy for our favorite witches.  In the future, Mallory is unsure of her own identity and feels like she has someone trapped within her, suggesting that she is a “lost princess” as well or really a lost witch in this case.

“It’s time for the apocalypse.”

We learn that the price of admission is only 100 million dollars, which seems reasonable.  Where can I sign up?  We also learn that “The Cooperative” is actually another name for “The Illuminati.”  Michael convinces everyone to stand with him and Jeff and Mutt’s plan is underway.  After all, they just need to convince a few powerful leaders to push some buttons to start the end of the world, which is beyond scary.  Even though we are surrounded by demons, witches, and a pentagram filled with dead warlocks, the end of the world is actually presented in a realistic way that makes these events even more concerning.  Now that we have all of the chess pieces in place, it’s time to play the game, but who will end up triumphant?  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” season 8 episode 8: “What Am I Supposed To Do?”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the FX network’s American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 8 last night, we took a break from the “Coven” story-line and followed Michael Langdon’s path, as he desperately tried to figure out what he should do next.  I guess being the Antichrist is tougher than one might imagine.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Sojourn,” Cordelia tries to get through to Michael, but to no avail.  Meanwhile, we meet some new characters at the “Church of Satan” and also catch up with some old ones, revealing some answers about Outpost 3.  We also continue to get some fun Easter eggs along the way.  My top 5 moments from American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 8 are:

“You can write your own destiny.”

In the beginning of the episode, Michael Langdon is beyond heartbroken to find out that Ms. Mead has been burned at the stake.  Cordelia reminds Michael that he’ll “never see her again” and that he is alone now, but Michael explains that he still has his father.  Despite Michael being the Antichrist, Cordelia still tries to get through to him and sees the potential humanity within him.  Michael doesn’t want to hear it; however, and says, “Somehow, someway, I’m going to bring her back and then I’m gonna kill every last one of you.”  Well at least Michael is still motivated, but this moment is important because it reminds us that Michael has his own identity and path to find now.  Whether we are on Team Coven or Team Langdon, we can’t ignore the fact that Michael has a tough road ahead of him.

“Are you ready for an old fashioned human sacrifice?”

Michael goes in search of answers and calls out to his father.  He starves himself for four days in the woods and begins hallucinating, seeing children reaching out to him with food and drinks.  It is important to note that we see an apple here, reminding us again about the “Garden of Eden” and also connecting us to the future where everyone at Outpost 3 will be poisoned by apples.  Michael also sees snakes and goats, which we have seen during the apocalypse as well, foreshadowing what is to come next.  Michael eventually stumbles upon the “Church of Satan” and meets some interesting characters.  The leader of the Church of Satan, played by Sandra Bernhard, may be influenced by evil, but she is actually pretty funny.  She inspires the crowd and reminds them that stealing $100 out of a register is not the kind of evil she is talking about.  When she presents the human sacrifices, she gives us a little bit of their resume, revealing that both sacrifices do a lot of good work in their lives and she hilariously comments, “Bitch please” and “Isn’t that just too precious?”  She is ready to make the world a little “shittier” by sacrificing these people to Satan.  I guess it’s worth it to sell your soul to the devil, especially if you get to sleep with Ryan Reynolds as an added bonus.  The “Church of Satan” is most likely known as “The Cooperative” in the future, putting together more pieces of the puzzle.

“I’m the one you’re waiting for.”

While taking a back seat at the “Church of Satan,” Michael gets quite the show and even gets to listen to the choir perform “O Fortuna,” which means “Oh Fate” when translated from Latin and further goes on about destiny, which is perhaps the sign that our Michael Langdon has been waiting for, even though his father has yet to make an appearance.  After losing Ms. Mead, Michael is in need of some guidance and meets Madeline, played by the amazing Harriet Sansom Harris.  Madeline steps in as a sort of mother type and even gives Michael a hot meal.  After Michael shows her his mark behind his ear, Madeline is absolutely convinced that he is the one they have all been waiting for.  Madeline presents him to the rest of the church and Michael proves his worthiness by killing the two sacrifices.  The church is clearly behind him and he is ready to embrace his destiny, but he still feels emptiness without Ms. Mead by his side.

“I am HR bitch!”

Madeline thinks that she can help Michael by introducing him to characters played by Evan Peters and Billy Eichner who are a bit eccentric, extreme, and heavily addicted to cocaine.  Before we get to them, it’s important to note that we also get to see Ms. Venable here.  Ms. Venable is clearly not a huge fan of her bosses, reminding them not to call her “babe” and looking absolutely fabulous in purple, which is apparently her thing.  This is important because in the future, “The Purples” are the elite at Outpost 3.  Ms. Venable also loves to rock purple in the future as well.  The character played by Evan Peters talks about the importance of a light rock playlist and we even get to hear the song, “The Morning After” play again, suggesting that this could have been the initial inspiration for using this music in Outpost 3 to drive everyone mad.  While I didn’t catch the names of these two characters, it is possible that they are under a kind of identity spell in the future as well, especially if Michael considers them to be allies or perhaps former allies.

“You came to the right place.”

We learn that the characters played by Peters and Eichner work in robotics and Michael is looking to re-create Ms. Mead.  After filling them in on everything about her, Michael is impressed by their work and we get to see Miriam Mead 2.0, which finally helps us connect the dots in the future.  Michael feels complete with her by his side again, which signals that he is now ready to fulfill his destiny.  It seems like we now have a lot of the past explained, so I am ready to fast forward to the future.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” season 8 episode 7: “Power Is Often Not What It Seems”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the FX network’s American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 7 last night, I realized that everyone has their part to play.  Whether they are the next potential Supreme or a “human weight watcher,” you should never underestimate any of Cordelia’s extraordinary girls.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Traitor,” Cordelia enlists the help of Dinah to summon the “Voodoo Devil,” but is not quite prepared for the deal he is offering.  Meanwhile, Coco’s powers begin to grow, Zoe takes notice of Mallory’s abilities, and the warlocks continue to plot the demise of the witches.  We also continue to get some fun Easter eggs along the way.  Did you catch them all?  My top 5 moments from American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 7 are:

“So the bitch reads minds.”

In the beginning of the episode, Joan Collins is back, revealing that she was an actress named Bubbles in the slasher film, “A Christmas to Dismember.”  While the clip of the film provides us with some fun campy horror, it is important to note that Joan Collins played a similar character in real life in the Tales From The Crypt anthology back in 1972.  I have to say that Joan Collins is as fabulous as ever and this also reminds us that she was also a witch in the present day apocalypse, but was killed before she got the chance to rise with her sister witches.  So why not bring her back too?  It’s also important to note that Bubbles encounters a killer Santa, reminding us of Ian McShane’s character back in season 2.  Madison and Myrtle go to recruit Bubbles and tell her that it’s “all hands on deck.”  After going into elaborate detail about her powers in ostentatious fashion, Madison dryly points out, “So the bitch reads minds.”  This power comes in handy; however, as Bubbles sits in on a dinner with the warlocks and fills the witches in on their intentions.

“The Voodoo Queen can fix any problem.”

Dinah finally gets some quality air time in this episode and we learn that she became the Voodoo Queen after Marie Laveau died.  While I am disappointed to not see the return of Marie Laveau, Dinah does a fantastic job and reminds husbands everywhere that they better behave.  Cordelia seeks out Dinah’s help and asks her to summon Papa Legba, played by the wonderful Lance Reddick.  Dinah’s help doesn’t come cheap; however, as she asks for $100,000 in return.  Papa seems fully aware of Cordelia’s dilemma and is interested in striking up a deal.  Cordelia is looking to trap Michael in the underworld, but this will be no easy task and I’m not sure Cordelia is ready to make a deal just yet.  Papa reveals that Fiona Goode made a deal that provided him with the soul of Nan, a witch we all remember from season 3.  Nan seems to be having a good time in hell, but Cordelia is still shocked by this revelation.  Papa wants the souls of all of her girls, but Cordelia is not prepared to do this and offers up her own soul instead.  Papa and Nan laugh at Cordelia when she says that she is the most powerful witch of all, implying that they know that Cordelia’s powers are fading and a new Supreme is ready to rise.  Cordelia is feeling lost and confused and summons Myrtle, finally revealing how one of our favorite witches returned to us.

“I’m kind of like a human Weight Watchers.”

Coco continues to deliver on fun, as she is excited to tell her sister witches that her powers are growing.  We learn that Coco can now detect how many calories are in each item of food.  The girls begin testing it out and Coco hilariously makes the groaning noise and rolls her eyes back, as she delivers the right answer each time.  Later on, Cordelia approaches Coco and asks for her help.  Coco is initially confused as to why Cordelia wants her help, but Cordelia reminds her that everyone has an important part to play.  Coco lures out Ms. Mead, who was busy ordering some meat for her beef stew.  It looks like she has always had a fondness for stew or “Stu.”  Sorry it’s still just as funny to me.  Ms. Mead detects Coco following her and shoots her with a tranquilizer gun, but Cordelia’s followers are ready for her and successfully capture Ms. Mead.  “Mission accomplished” Coco!  Now about this pumpkin donut I’m about to eat…

“I’ve never seen anything like it.”

After Coco accidentally chokes on a snowball, Mallory is able to magically make an incision into her throat and remove the food, saving Coco’s life.  Zoe comments that she has never seen anything like it and approaches Cordelia, suggesting that Mallory might actually be the next Supreme, which is something many fans have been suggesting for weeks.  Mallory is a good person and she is hesitant about potentially becoming the next Supreme because she knows that she will only rise if Cordelia falls.  Cordelia tells her, “Don’t ever be ashamed of who you are.”  This is the way it has always been with the rise and fall of a Supreme and I’m sure that Cordelia would much rather turn the title over to Mallory than to the Antichrist himself.  Is Mallory truly ready for this?  Is there someone else worthy of being the Supreme?  We’ll have to wait and see, but Mallory puts her powers to good use when she brings back John Henry from the dead at the gas station.  I was thrilled to see John Henry again and he proves to be incredibly useful, as he fills the witches in on who killed him after he went to find out his own answers about Michael Langdon.

“Power is often not what it seems.”

Cordelia definitely has a point here, but everyone wants power all the same.  At the end of the episode, the warlocks have created a poison that will only harm female witches, reminding us that the rivalry between witches and warlocks and men and women is nowhere near over.  Cordelia knows everything; however, and spoils their plan, making a grand entrance like a boss.  Ariel and Baldwin are determined to be traitors and are tied to the stake along with Ms. Mead.  They are sentenced to death by fire, but it is revealed that only a fellow warlock can actually light the flame.  John Henry is ready to have his revenge and happily lights the fire.  Ms. Mead’s manic laughing among the flames is definitely creepy, but this threat is over for now.  Now on to Michael Langdon.  Stay tuned!

P.S. fun fact:  Cordelia points out that the poison powder the warlocks created was a form of “plagiarism.”  She tells them that a witch named Agnes Sampson first created it back in 1590.  Sampson is a real figure from history who was burned at the stake and accused of witchcraft back in 1591.  The year is also significant because this is around the time that the Roanoke settlers disappeared, connecting us to season 6.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” season 8 episode 5: “Do Not for One Second Think I am Weak”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the FX network’s American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 5 last night, I thought the saying “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” was appropriate, or in Cordelia’s case, keep your girls close and the Antichrist even closer, but will she be able to outsmart Michael Langdon?  Place your bets now.  I’m all in on Coven.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Boy Wonder,” Cordelia has a vision about the end of the world and agrees to administer the test of the Seven Wonders for Michael.  Meanwhile, John Henry continues to have his suspicions about Michael, Madison is given an important task, and we are presented with more Easter eggs.  Did you catch them all?  My top 5 moments from American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 5 are:

“And if you succeed, you will be the next Supreme and it will change everything.”

In the beginning of the episode, Cordelia has a startling vision about the future and sees a world filled with “cannibalism, fire, and death.”  Cordelia saw her academy “reduced to cinders” and is not about to take this warning lightly.  She recognizes that their very survival might depend on what she does next and finally agrees to administer the test of the Seven Wonders at the rise of the blood moon.  Does this sound familiar?  During Roanoke, the spirits were able to cross over coinciding with the blood moon cycle, so this is absolutely a connection to season 6.  We also know that the spirits were linked to Lady Gaga’s character, Scathach, who was the first of the Supremes.  It makes sense that the test of the Seven Wonders is connected to this as well, especially since it is a test of true power and worthiness.  Cordelia reveals that Michael will be named the next Supreme if he can pass the test.  Myrtle hilariously points out that men make horrible leaders, but Cordelia stands by her decision.

“I’m a gluten detector.  That’s my only power.”

Myrtle reminds Cordelia that Michael is not the only one with power and we get to witness another example of Mallory’s extraordinary abilities.  Mallory heals the wounds of an injured deer, but doesn’t just heal them; she completely undoes them, which is remarkable.  We also finally get to see Coco’s entrance into the academy and learn that her only real power is that of a “gluten detector.”  Coco explains that her brother was about to eat something and she got a horrible feeling and pushed it away from him, saving his life.  However, word spread fast and Coco’s socialite friends requested that she do a test of sorts on their food to ensure that they can hit their target weight.  Coco hilariously begins humming when she scans the food and declares whether or not it has gluten.  Cordelia points out to Coco that her powers can develop and grow and that detecting if something is dangerous is actually something significant.  While we haven’t gotten a chance to see Coco’s powers advance, she is still bringing some comic relief to us along the way.  In terms of Mallory’s powers, we know that it has been hinted that her ancestry line goes back to Salem, but is it possible that she is somehow a descendant of Scathach?  It seems like Mallory may be the only one who is potentially strong enough to face Michael Langdon and it would make sense to have the son of Satan face off against one of the daughters of the first original Supreme.  We’ll have to wait and see; however, but I am hoping we get more screen time for Mallory soon.

“Stand down bitch.”

John Henry is still refusing to accept Michael Langdon as the next “alpha” and decides to go out and get some answers.  Before he has a chance to do so, he crosses paths with the original Ms. Mead at a gas station and she cryptically says, “So many things left to do and so little time in the hour glass.”  While the idea of time running out in an hour glass can represent so many things, John Henry is caught off guard and Ms. Mead eliminates him as a threat forever, setting him on fire.  I have to say that I was just really starting to enjoy John Henry’s character and he brought just the right amount of sass to the table.  Michael is being very careful to eliminate any threat around him, but it’s only a matter of time before the truth comes out about who he really is.

“What always happens when a new Supreme rises…the old one fades away.”

Michael begins to pass the test of the Seven Wonders with flying colors, even though the tests were presented like a silent film in black and white.  When he gets to the final test of “Descensum,” he is to project his soul into the afterlife, but Cordelia changes things up and requests that he retrieve Misty from there.  Cordelia reminds everyone that she is still The Supreme and that she outranks everyone there and is not weak at all, even though her powers seem to be fading.  Michael agrees to the test and we once again see a series of doorways, reminding us that this season is connecting us to so many different worlds and realms.  Michael finds Misty in a school science lab of sorts, where she is forced to dissect a living frog over and over again.  I thought Madison’s personal hell was pretty bad, but I definitely feel for Misty here.  When Michael arrives, Misty asks if he is there to save her and he is able to bring her back successfully.  I was excited to see the return of Lily Rabe’s character and hope that Misty can help out her sister witches.  When Michael completes this, Cordelia begins to fade even further, signaling that Michael will become the next Supreme.

“He will never be The Supreme.  I wanted to keep him close so we would be ready.”

Cordelia has been keeping her poker face going this entire time, as she later reveals that she never planned to let Michael become the next Supreme.  Misty even tells her that there is something not right about him and it was like he was speaking to evil directly.  Cordelia’s powers may be fading, but she is still on top of her game.  She cleverly got Michael to bring back all of her girls so that they would be ready for the final battle.  She thanks Misty for bringing them the first proof and in a touching moment, in walks Stevie Nicks, “The White Witch.”  She serenades Misty and the two dance together, which is wonderful to see.  Welcome back Stevie!  Later on, Cordelia pulls Madison aside and tells her that she wants her to go find out more about Michael.  One of the warlocks, Behold Chablis, was eavesdropping and has his own reasons for wanting to tag along.  At least John Henry was not the only one to have a gut feeling about Michael, even though Chablis initially seemed to disagree with him.  Cordelia agrees that they will go together and Madison asks, “What’s so special about this place?”  Cordelia explains that “it’s where it all began” and we cut to the front of Murder House.  It looks like Madison will be moving in and we will get to see some of our old favorite characters return next week.  Are you ready?  Stay tuned!

P.S. fun fact:  Madison shares the same last name as Dr. Charles Montgomery, who is the one who originally built the Murder House.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” season 8 episode 3: “Surprise Bitch! I Bet you Thought you’d Seen the Last of Me”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the FX network’s American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 3 last night, the moment we have all been waiting for is finally here.  Are you ready?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “Forbidden Fruit,” Mr. Langdon continues to interview potential candidates to determine if they are worthy to join “The Sanctuary” and discovers a surprising secret about Mallory while revealing one of his own as well.  Meanwhile, we learn more about Ms. Mead’s past, Ms. Venable announces that Outpost 3 will be celebrating with a Halloween Soiree, and the Easter eggs kept us focused and entertained.  Did you catch them all?  My top 5 moments from American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 3 are:

“It’s the one day of the year when the rest of the world puts in some effort to be fabulous like I am every other day.”

During the episode, Ms. Venable announces that they will be holding a Halloween Soiree to celebrate.  The theme of the party will be a Victorian Masquerade ball and everyone is beyond excited to have something to look forward to.  Only Ms. Venable plans on using the party as a way of arranging for everyone to eat the apples delivered from “The Cooperative” at the same time, which she poisons with the assistance of Ms. Mead with snake venom.  Everyone deserves just a glimmer of hope and happiness and they scamper off to get their costumes ready.  Mr. Gallant hilariously explains why he loves Halloween while he reminisces with Coco about their Michael Jackson costumes from when they were younger.  While the party is good news, Coco recognizes that they will probably announce who is going into “The Sanctuary” during the party.  She understands that everything has some kind of hidden agenda, reminding us that “the closest thing to a Christmas feast was stew” or does she mean Stu?  Sorry couldn’t resist.  Either way, the Halloween party will definitely be the most excitement they have seen in a very long time.  Although you may want to think twice about bobbing for apples anytime soon.

“Happy Halloween bitch.”

Surprise!  Brock is back, played by fan favorite, Billy Eichner.  We quickly discover that after Coco left her boyfriend, Brock, he has been living out in the wasteland for all this time.  Brock has been exposed to radiation and is sporting some bald spots and gruesome marks on his face that prove he has definitely been through the ringer.  While Brock initially seemed to be privileged and materialistic in the opening episode, he has shed that persona all too quickly.  Brock has become somewhat of a bad-ass and reminded me of “Mad Max” while out in the wasteland.  Brock explains that he is just looking for his girlfriend, but something tells me that he is not looking to kiss and makeup.  Brock is aware of the shelter and spots one of the horse drawn carriages, hitching a ride to Outpost 3.  Brock makes his way in and cleverly sports a mask of his own during the masquerade party, inviting Coco to dance.  Coco mistakes him for Langdon and begins coming on to him, desperately looking for a way into “The Sanctuary.”  Only Coco is in for a big surprise when Brock reveals his identity and she asks, “What happened to your face?”  Coco tries to explain her actions, but just digs a deeper hole for herself when she compares her love to Brock to her love for sushi, explaining that she had to lock away her feelings for both, which does not amuse Brock at all.  Brock brutally stabs Coco in the head and says, “Happy Halloween Bitch,” with no hesitation.  While I’m not so sure how Brock will come into play now, we definitely should not discount him, as he has been exposed to the brutal reality outside and is looking for payback.

“Some people just have nothing special about them.”

In the beginning of the episode, Langdon interviews Mallory and recognizes a potential darkness within her.  Langdon further reveals more about his own abilities when he says, “I can see into the dark places that people desperately try to keep hidden.”  Langdon refers to it as a sort of talent or “night vision,” but it’s clear that Langdon possesses a lot of power.  Langdon was not expecting the power of Mallory; however, who ends up setting the room on fire with her mind.  Mallory is just as surprised as Langdon, who demands to know who she is.  Langdon prides himself on knowing everything about a person and reveals his own true face when he is thrown off guard by Mallory’s power.  While we know that Langdon is the baby from Murder House, it now appears that he is the Antichrist.  Langdon even performs a dark blood ritual and calls out to his father, who we can only assume is the devil himself.  Mallory later confides in Coco and Mr. Gallant, explaining that she thinks she set the room on fire.  Coco hilariously asks her if she knocked over a candle and Mallory says, “I think I made the fire with my mind,” further comparing herself to Dark Phoenix.  Marvel fans rejoice!  This is not the first reference we have seen to Marvel during the show.  The song, “Time in a Bottle,” played during an important moment for Mr. Gallant last week, which Evan Peters knows all too well.  In X-Men:  Days of Future Past, my absolute favorite scene featured Evan Peters, who played Quicksilver and helped break Magneto out of prison while this song played and we saw everything in slow motion.  You can watch that original scene here!  Think this is just a coincidence?  Maybe it is.  However, Mallory also rises from the dead or the ashes, just like the actual Dark Phoenix, which makes me think otherwise.  Either way, I was truly impressed by Billie Lourd’s performance this week and I am looking forward to exploring more about Mallory and her abilities.

“All people if given the right pressures or stimulus are evil mother fuckers.”

Last week, we were completely shocked when Ms. Mead was revealed to be a robot of some kind.  In this episode, we learn more about Ms. Mead’s “false memories,” which all involve Halloween.  Hooray!  Ms. Mead remembers trick-or-treating as Rosie, the Robot maid, from The Jetsons back in 1962 and even recalls her first date in 1968, when she watched the movie, Rosemary’s Baby, which is definitely hinting at the idea of Langdon’s own existence.  Ms. Mead recognizes that these memories are false, but yet they feel somewhat real to her.  Ms. Mead prides herself on being loyal to Ms. Venable and is shocked when she turns the tables on her and shoots Ms. Venable, killing her.  Even though we initially thought the “poison apple” scheme was Ms. Venable’s idea, Langdon reveals that it was his own and that Ms. Mead is operating under his command.  He further explains that he made Ms. Mead to be a sort of prototype, based on someone he loved as a child.  Ms. Mead starts to understand the fading memory she has of a young boy, realizing that it must have been Langdon.  Who is Ms. Mead based on?  We can only assume that Langdon is referring to Michael’s grandmother, Constance Langdon, played by the fabulous Jessica Lange.  The pieces are coming together for sure, but there is still so much left to be uncovered.  I am absolutely looking forward to it, however.

“Surprise bitch!  I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.”

After bobbing for apples, Ms. Venable invites everyone to enjoy their tasty treats.  The apples themselves and the title of the episode scream references to the bible and the Garden of Eden, but no one at Outpost 3 seems to be paying attention to that.  The apples are poisoned and we watch the disgusting demise of the characters we have come to know in the last three episodes.  When thinking of poison apples, Snow White also comes to mind, and we do see several women come back to life after eating the poison apple.  While I was initially upset to have invested so much time in the characters residing at Outpost 3, I was delightfully entertained by the return of three of our favorite witches.  The record player was initially playing the song, “Baby I’m a Want You,” by Bread, which you can listen to here!  The lyrics that stood out were, “Like a guiding light to help me through my darkest hour,” which seem beyond appropriate for the entrance of some of the members of Coven.  The record player changes to the song, “She’s a Rainbow,” by The Rolling Stones, which you can listen to here! Right on cue, Cordelia, Madison, and Myrtle Snow make a grand entrance through the gates and are here to save the day and protect the world from Langdon most likely.  They look for their sister witches and resurrect Mallory, Coco, and Dinah.  Madison, played by Emma Roberts, delivers her “surprise bitch” line perfectly and we are ready for the fun to begin.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” season 8 episode 2: “What is this, the Hunger Games?”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the FX network’s American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 2 last night, we witnessed several Easter eggs from previous seasons, foreshadowing the return of some of our favorite characters.  While we don’t know what to expect just yet, these glimpses and hints are not to be ignored.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “The Morning After,” Mr. Langdon makes an announcement to the group and explains that he will be conducting a series of questions to find out who is worthy of “cooperating” and joining “The Sanctuary.”  Meanwhile, Timothy and Emily discover Ms. Venable’s deceit and grow closer as a result, Mr. Gallant has a visitor at his door, and we get a fresh new ingredient for dinner.  Anything should be better than Stu, right?  My top 5 moments from American Horror Story:  Apocalypse season 8 episode 2 are:

“I thought everything outside was dead.”

In the beginning of the episode, Timothy and Emily are horrified by the presence of snakes in Outpost 3.  Ms. Mead is excited by a new protein for dinner, but everyone else is not so sure.  After all, they have just been traumatized over possibly eating Stu in their stew.  Sorry I can’t let that one go just yet.  The snake soup does not look too appetizing, but the snakes resurrect and are alive when dinner is officially served.  While this moment is horrifying, it also reminds us that this is considered a form of resurrection.  We know that the snakes are not the only ones to come back to life in this new world.  Who’s next?  We’ll have to wait and see, but this absolutely screams “Coven.”

“I won’t sugar coat the situation.”

Mr. Langdon quickly introduces himself to the rest of the group and informs them that the rest of the Outposts have been overrun by some kind of “feral cannibals.”  Mr. Langdon explains that The Cooperative had a fail-safe in place and that they have an outpost called “The Sanctuary,” which has security measures protecting it to ensure its survival along with the humans who reside in it.  The group learns that Mr. Langdon has been sent to determine who is worthy of joining “The Sanctuary,” which will involve a series of questions.  Mr. Gallant is the first one to “volunteer as tribute.”  Insert “Hunger Games” joke here, which I thought seemed appropriate since Coco hilariously cried out, “what is this, the Hunger Games?”  Mr. Langdon explains to Mr. Gallant that he will know if he is lying or trying to trick him.  Does this mean that Mr. Langdon possesses some kind of supernatural powers and abilities?  While we are not too sure of this yet, it definitely appears like we are being pointed in that direction.

“You’re a fighter.  I like that about you.”

Later in the episode, Mr. Langdon speaks to Ms. Venable in her chambers and reminds her that “complete abstinence” was not part of the rules and that this could be determined punishable by death.  It makes us wonder why Ms. Venable felt the need to enforce this rule so much.  There clearly seems to be a common trend so far of “lust,” creeping into the walls of Outpost 3, which brings us back to Ryan Murphy connecting the seasons of AHS to the “Nine Circles of Hell” from Dante’s Inferno.  You can read more on this theory here! Mr. Langdon recognizes Ms. Venable as a fighter and reminds her that “there’s no need for us to be adversaries.”  He further explains that he wants to see the part of her that humiliates her the most, ordering for her to remove her dress.  Ms. Venable finally shows us some real vulnerability here and hesitantly unzips the back of her dress, revealing some kind of deformity and scarring on her back.  Ms. Venable asks if she has passed the test, but Mr. Langdon coldly replies, “No.”  Before they can get any further, they are interrupted by Ms. Mead who requires Ms. Venable’s immediate attention.

“Is this phase 2 of the interview?”

When Mr. Gallant is questioned by Mr. Langdon, there is an underlying sexual tension throughout their conversation.  Mr. Langdon asks Mr. Gallant to tell him about his anger and immediately links it to his grandmother, recognizing that Mr. Gallant has some untamed hatred brewing inside of him.  Later on, there is a knock at Mr. Gallant’s door and he is greeted by an old friend of AHS:  The Rubber Man.  The man is dressed in black latex head to toe and Mr. Gallant’s grandmother discovers them having sex.  Fans will remember that The Rubber Man is revealed to be Tate from AHS:  Murder House (season one), also played by Evan Peters.  This makes things beyond confusing, but it is possible that someone else has embraced the suit, but we will have to wait and find out.  Mr. Gallant’s grandmother reports his behavior, looking out for her own survival and Mr. Gallant is whipped repeatedly by Ms. Mead.  Later on, Mr. Langdon tells him that he has never been to his room and that his neediness and desperation disgust him.  He harshly tells Mr. Gallant that he would not be with him if he was the last man on earth and they are pretty close to that very scenario.  Mr. Gallant is very upset by this cruel rejection and to make matters worse, his own grandmother refuses to accept him as well.  Later on, Mr. Gallant follows the Rubber Man and turns the tables on him, stabbing him for shaming him.  Only he quickly realizes that he has stabbed his grandmother to death instead, now seeing her corpse before his eyes.  Mr. Gallant is horrified by what he has done, just in desperate need for someone to love and accept him.  The damage is done, but we’ll have to wait and see if there are consequences for his actions.

“What are we doing?”

During the episode, Timothy and Emily sneak into Mr. Langdon’s room and find his laptop.  They are initially confused on how he can communicate with anyone, but assume it must be some type of satellite.  They read through some of the emails and learn that Ms. Venable has been making up the rules as she goes, particularly about the mandatory abstinence.  Timothy and Emily take things further with their blossoming relationship and it is implied that they do have sex.  Ms. Mead barges into the bedroom when they are sleeping and takes them to be punished.  Emily cries out to Ms. Venable that she knows the rules are not real, but they are still taken away.  A gun is pulled on Timothy and he courageously fights back and gets a hold of the gun.  Ms. Mead is shot and another shock is thrown our way.  Ms. Mead takes a look at her wound and we see some kind of white liquid coming out of it, which is definitely not human.  Is she a robot or something else?  I’m not sure, but it looks like we are in for more and more twists and turns.  Stay tuned!

P.S. fun fact:  Did you notice “The Morning After” song changed over to a song featuring Stevie Nicks?  Is it possible we will see her again along with some of our other favorites from Coven?
