Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 15: “A Norman Rockwell Painting with Leather Jackets”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 15, I thought back to Jughead’s question:  What exactly is the American Dream?  Does it involve being surrounded by family and friends?  And if so, what happens when that dream is threatened?  Do you go on pretending to protect those you love or do you shatter the picture perfect image to release the truth?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Chapter Fifty:  American Dreams,” Gladys buys Alice Cooper’s home, which makes things a little awkward for Jughead and Betty.  Meanwhile, our favorite couples all begin to clash, but is this the beginning of the end for them?  My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 15 are:

5

“Do you love her FP?”

After Gladys buys the Cooper home with cash, she is ready to move in and get a do-over with her family.  FP recognizes the importance of keeping them all together and tells Alice that it’s over.  Alice asks him if he loves Gladys and he tells her that she is the mother of his children, but when Alice asks if FP loves her, he says, “It doesn’t matter now,” which is absolutely heartbreaking.  For all of you Falice fans, my heart goes out to you, but I’m not sure that FP will want to continue to rebuild his marriage once he discovers that Gladys has been lying about everything.  Don’t give up hope!

4

“Now we don’t owe each other anything.”

It seems like love is not in the air during this episode, as Reggie begins to clash with Veronica.  Reggie wants to become Veronica’s business partner and he has certainly proven his worth, but Veronica is a Lodge through and through, as she wants to be cautious about this decision, especially when she still owes Gladys and her father money.  Reggie is not happy with this and tries to steal back his car, but Gladys catches him, which is not good for anyone.  Veronica is able to smooth things over with Gladys, but not with Reggie, who just wants to matter.  Veronica just came out of a serious relationship with Archie, but I’m not sure she is ready to surrender the guard around her heart just yet.  In a selfless moment, she does buy back Reggie’s car from Gladys, but coldly explains that they don’t owe each other anything anymore, suggesting that Veggie is over for now.

3

“I need to focus my rage.”

In this episode, Cheryl and Toni continue to clash, as Toni is looking to find her own identity with the Pretty Poisons.  Cheryl tries to be supportive, but she feels Toni slipping away from her.  Cheryl pulls out all the stops in a gorgeous red gown and arrives to gamble, but Toni recognizes that she is casing the place, ultimately to get Toni’s attention.  This certainly works and provides Choni fans with a hot and steamy moment for these two, but it’s not enough.  Toni decides to move out of Cheryl’s house, suggesting it was maybe too soon too fast.  I felt for Cheryl so much in this moment, but our girl is not about to sit around crying.  While playing croquet, Cheryl summons Kevin and explains, “I need to focus my rage.”  And so we get our setup for the Heathers musical, which we have been anxiously waiting for.  I’m sure Cheryl will rock it as Heather Chandler, but will this distraction heal her broken heart?  I’m really hoping that Choni can reconcile, but it looks like our favorite couples are all dropping like flies.  Stay strong, Bughead!  I seriously can’t take another breakup.

2

“Sacrifice no more.”

Betty, Jughead, and Archie work together to find out how to save the Red Paladin.  Mr. Lodge has been supplying Archie with information and tells him that he gave out many “Kill the Red Paladin” cards, but Archie needs a way to lure them all out.  Jughead comes up with the brilliant idea to create an advanced quest as an addendum, but they need to make it look like it comes straight from the Gargoyle King.  The plan works, as we are welcomed to the “Iron Mountain,” better known as Mr. Lodge’s abandoned boxing gym.  How convenient.  Archie has no easy task in front of him, as he has to fight every opponent and win.  Archie sheds some blood and things are not looking so good when the last challenger steps in the ring, but Archie pulls through to win and tells him, “That was for me.”  Go Archie!  While Archie may have now retrieved all of the “Kill the Red Paladin” cards, I still do not trust Mr. Lodge.  Even though they have a truce now, he seems a little bit too forthcoming, but we’ll have to wait and see how this unfolds.

1

“I’m proud to be your son.”

Veronica comes clean with Betty and tells her all about Gladys, but Betty explains that she has to tell Jughead the truth.  Jughead initially doesn’t know what to make of this and tells Betty that he has to figure it out on his own, which had my heart sinking.  After discovering the truth, Jughead confronts his mother, but she reminds him that she is just trying to put her family back together again.  At FP’s 50th birthday party, Jughead is asked to give a speech and he has the opportunity to shed some light on everything, only he can’t break his father’s heart like this.  Jughead loves his father and knows that this news would destroy him.  In a heartwarming moment, Jughead says that FP is “someone who would do anything for his family” and further says, “We’ll always be there for you and I’m proud to be your son.”  However, Jughead Jones is not about to let anyone mess with his family, as he teams up with Betty in the end to determine what to do next, as Bughead remains strong.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 14: “Fire Walk With Me”

Happy Wednesday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 14, we were reminded that “running isn’t going to solve anything.”  However, what happens when “the hunters become the hunted?”  Do you accept your fate or do you set a new path?  A path of danger and destruction that might lead you back to the darkness you have tried so hard to keep at bay.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In tonight’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Nine:  Fire Walk With Me,” Archie tries to help a boy named Ricky who has the same branding as him.  Meanwhile, Jughead sets up a new chapter for the Serpents, Toni and Cheryl continue to drift apart, and Betty has had enough.  My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 14 are:

5

“One more strike and you’re done in my school.”

Both Toni and Jughead are lectured by Principal Weatherbee after some equipment is stolen from the chemistry lab.  I guess someone has been watching reruns of Breaking Bad, as we later learn that Kurtz is responsible.  Kurtz is bad news and Jughead tries to get through to him, but Kurtz says, “I play by a different set of rules.”  Jughead refuses to give up; however, as he enlists the help of his father, FP.  FP proposes that the Serpents work for him and help solve cases and that they will receive money and credit for college as well, which seems like a pretty good deal to me.  Will this keep the Serpents out of trouble for good?  We’ll have to see, but it looks like a new chapter is starting for them.  Way to go, Jughead!

4

“You are a detractor.”

During the episode, Betty continues to be snubbed by Kevin, who has embraced the Farm with open arms.  Betty tries to reason with Kevin, but he tells her that she is a detractor and doesn’t want to hear it.  After Betty witnesses Kevin walking on a fire pit to prove himself to the Farm, she is threatened by Evelyn, who reminds her that “everyone at the Farm knows all of your dirty secrets.”  Betty is forced to keep her mouth shut as a result, but we know that our modern day Nancy Drew will not stay quiet for long, as she debates her next move.  Look out Evelyn Evernever, Betty is not someone you want to mess with!

3

“I’m running my business my way.”

Veronica realizes that all of her money is going to her father and Gladys and decides that she will open up the secret casino again to add in some extra cash flow.  Veronica has really thought of everything, as she even comes up with clever hiding spots for the evidence in case they are raided.  Veronica tells her father that she will pay him, but she is going to run her business her way, as she enlists the help of Toni and the Pretty Poisons to keep everything secure and to keep Gladys out.  However, something tells me that Gladys doesn’t like taking no for an answer, so we’ll have to see how this unfolds.  Also, I’m glad that Toni is taking her leadership role seriously, but it seems like our favorite couple, Choni, is falling apart.  Can they fix things before it is too late?  Let’s hope so!

2

“You’re playing me?”

Archie meets a young boy named Ricky, who has been hiding out at the gym.  Archie realizes that Ricky has the same brand on him, which means sacrifice and he is determined to help him.  Archie has been in his shoes and he knows what it is like to be on the run so he instantly forms a connection to Ricky.  However, we learn that Ricky is actually Joaquin’s little brother and he has gotten mixed up with the Gargoyles, as he tries to take down the Red Paladin himself.  Archie is frustrated by this betrayal and it seems like he can’t trust anyone anymore.  Perhaps it is time for Archie to bring the fight directly to the Gargoyle King, but we still have to determine who that is first.

1

“I guess I just feel a lot better about things.”

At the end of the episode, Betty is upset with her mother for selling their house.  Alice keeps busy by packing boxes, but Betty seems distant and distracted, as she stares at a burning candle.  Later on, Betty meets up with Jughead and Archie to bring the team together again and says that she feels a lot better about things.  Alice walks into her house and sees that it is on fire, which means that Betty has taken a page out of Cheryl Blossom’s book, as she takes her anger out in a destructive way.  Betty has kept the darkness away for quite some time now, but has it just re-surfaced?  We’ll have to stay tuned to find out, but I’m worried about our girl, Betty for sure.

I also want to take a minute to say that I am incredibly saddened by the news of Luke Perry’s passing.  I grew up watching him as Pike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210, and I continued to be blessed to witness his performance as Fred Andrews on Riverdale. Here are some of my favorite memories of him below.  RIP Luke Perry.

My Ship of the week ending 3/2/19 on TV goes to…

Archie and Josie on Riverdale, better known as Archosie!  Archie has been in such a dark place lately and Josie has been such a positive influence on him.  As a friend, she was always there to support him, but they share so many passions, including music, which has now brought them together.  Archie doesn’t always make the right call, but Josie has been acting as his moral compass, guiding him toward self-worth.

While I still love the connection between Archie and Veronica, I can’t help shipping Archie and Josie right now.  Archie doesn’t need drama in his life and Hiram Lodge was such a negative force, constantly getting in the way of Archie and Veronica’s relationship.  After all that Archie has been through, he needs stability and someone who will be there to support him, but also someone not afraid to challenge him either.  Let’s see how this ship progresses, but it has been surprising me so far!

Stay tuned for a recognized Ship on TV each week!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 13: “I Was Reborn”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 13, Gladys reminded us that “beggars can’t be choosers,” but what happens when you can’t be content with settling?  After all, there is always another negotiation waiting to be made in Riverdale, but are you prepared to deal with the consequences?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Eight:  Requiem for a Welterweight,” Archie pours his heart and soul into boxing, but winds up in a dangerous situation.  Meanwhile, Betty investigates the Farm further to protect her mother, Jughead has an eerie encounter, and Cheryl and Toni continue to clash.  My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 13 are:

5

“You want me to spy on my father for you?”

Veronica typically has no issues with spying on her own family, but she has second thoughts about it when Gladys approaches her with this very same idea.  However, Gladys is smart and strategic and reminds Veronica that they both want the same thing.  Veronica desperately wants her family out of the drug game and is willing to let Gladys be in charge, but Gladys proves that she can easily turn on someone, which makes her a very dangerous opponent.  Something tells me that she should not underestimate our girl, Veronica, however.

4

“You’re worth more than that.”

During the episode, Archie begins to channel all of his rage into boxing, but he becomes impatient when Coach Keller tells him that he is not ready for his first fight.  Elio is slithering around to make things interesting and agrees to let Archie participate in a fight, but only if he is willing to throw the match for money.  Archie initially seems willing to do so, but Josie reminds him that he is worth a lot more than that.  After Archie has second thoughts, Elio refuses to let him out of this agreement, reminding us that there are always consequences and I really wish Archie would think before he acts sometimes.  Archie trains with Coach Keller and actually puts up a valiant effort in the fight.  Even though it seems like he should have won, the fix is in and Archie is not determined the winner.  At least he has his dignity intact and his relationship with Josie progresses more.  Josie sees the good in Archie and seems to be a positive influence in his life, but I’m still wondering what Veronica will think about all of this.  You know, drama and all that.  Either way, it looks like this ship is here to stay for now.

3

“Is this gang mine or yours?”

Jughead begins to realize that he is losing members of the Serpents, as the girls all head over to Toni and Cheryl’s gang, The Pretty Poisons.  Jughead has a sit down with Toni and asks her to come back, but she tells him, “You want me back in the Serpents…make me Queen.”  Jughead cannot honor this request because of Betty, but he also learns that Toni is looking for a real opportunity to lead and she explains that the gang is more of a sisterhood.  However, this sisterhood is learning some serious archery skills thanks to Cheryl and they are ready to kick some ass if needed.

Choni 2 28

Cheryl is annoyed about Jughead’s comments to Toni and decides to show him “just how poisonous we pretties can be.”  Toni doesn’t want the group to be considered a “vanity project,” but she is not on board with Cheryl’s methods either.  Cheryl wants to  make an impression and remind everyone that they “are not to be dismissed or trifled with,” and the girls beat up some of the Serpents to further their point.  Toni confronts Cheryl about it later on and is very upset that she did this without talking to her first.  Cheryl tells Toni that the gang is still hers, but it looks like this group is driving a wedge between our favorite couple, Choni.  Toni is taking her new role very seriously, but Cheryl has to remember that she can’t always be the Queen Bee in every situation.  Let’s hope our girls can get back on track and reconcile.

2

“I did what you couldn’t.”

After striking out with Toni, Gladys suggests that Jughead recruit some of the Ghoulies since they don’t really have a strong leader present anymore, now that Penny is gone.  Jughead goes to visit their acting leader, Kurtz, who is beyond creepy.  Kurtz tells Jughead that Griffins and Gargoyles is not just a game and reminds him that “only the worthy will ascend.”  It seems like the remaining Ghoulies are too into the game to recognize reality, but Gladys recruits them anyway, making her presence known in Riverdale rather quickly.  What is her end game here?  We’ll have to wait and see, but we definitely have a new player in town, as she also successfully gains control over the drug game and Hiram agrees to handle the prison.  That is, as long as FP can send him lots of new potential inmates.  Watch out, FP.

1

“I was reborn.”

So, I was excited that we finally got to submerge ourselves into the Farm story a little bit more in this episode.  Alice tells Betty that she is being baptized into the Farm and even gets her old wedding dress altered for the occasion.  Jughead gives Betty some advice and tells her to embrace it or pretend so that she can see what is truly going on.  Betty puts her Nancy Drew skills to good use and begins investigating the Farm.  She can’t find a photo of Edgar Evernever anywhere, although I want to point her in the direction of a One Tree Hill rerun, but I’m sure we’ll get there soon enough.  Can’t wait to see you on the show, Chad Michael Murray!

Riverdale 2 28 Alice

Betty finally receives a tip from a woman named Martha who agrees to meet her.  Martha explains that members of the Farm are expected to get as close to death as possible to see the truth and even mentions “ascension,” which provides us with a link to Griffins and Gargoyles.  Does that mean that Edgar Evernever is the Gargoyle King?  Sounds a little too obvious to me, but there is definitely a connection here.  Betty finds out that Martha’s sister died by drowning when she was baptized and Betty rushes off to save her mother.  When she arrives, Polly has been holding Alice down under water, which is beyond disturbing.  I mean, I know you are in a cult here, but that’s your own mother.  Just saying.  Alice is initially not breathing, but Betty performs CPR and saves her.  Yay!  Later on, Betty talks to her mother and hopes that she will finally see the light, only Alice is under the impression that she was reborn and is now ready to give herself over to the Farm entirely and even plans on selling their house.  It looks like you have some more work to do, Betty.  We support you!  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Riverdale in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 12: “Pretty by Day, Poison by Night”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 12, Choni fans finally got to witness some quality screen time for our girls, Cheryl Blossom and Toni Topaz.  And I have to say, it was worth the wait!  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Seven:  Bizarrodale,” Tom and Sierra are ready to get married, but the Gargoyle King has some other plans for the Midnight Club.  Meanwhile, Archie continues to grow closer to Josie, Veronica comes face to face with Jughead’s mom, Kevin is tired of hiding in the shadows, and Cheryl and Toni have their first fight.  My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 12 are:

5

“And suddenly I’m in an episode of Ozark.”

I have to admit that Veronica drops some of the best references on the show and it is well appreciated.  We may not be in Ozark, Missouri, but Riverdale has its own set of problems to deal with.  After destroying the drugs last week, Veronica learns that her actions may have some very steep consequences.  After realizing that she does not have enough money to cover her debt, Veronica and Reggie come face to face with Gladys Jones, otherwise known as Jughead’s mom.  Gladys agrees to put Veronica on a payment plan of sorts while taking Reggie’s beloved car as collateral, but she reminds them not to tell Jughead about her involvement here.  Now that Gladys and Jellybean are back in town, something tells me that the drama will not stop here.  What else does Gladys have up her sleeve?  We’ll have to wait and find out, but I’m looking forward to exploring it further.

4

“So maybe I can help you feel a little less alone.”

Or maybe you are going to end up kissing Josie, but are you really ready for a new relationship, Archie?  During this episode, Josie and Archie continue to grow closer.  Archie agrees to take Josie to her music audition and truly listens to her about some of her hopes and doubts about life.  Their friendship has blossomed into something more, but what will happen when Veronica finds out?  We know that Veronica has moved on to Reggie, but is she truly over Archie?

3

“We finish the game we started.”

Tom and Sierra are excited to announce their wedding, but even the Gargoyle King wants to send his or her best wishes.  We quickly learn that the rest of the Midnight Club have received similar notes and are told that they must finish the game to protect their children.  Only we soon learn that it was a distraction, leaving all of their children in potential danger.  It seems like the adults in town need to take some much needed cues from their children.  Perhaps we needed more screen time for Betty Cooper in this episode so she could school the adults again.  Either way, we know that the Midnight Club is still very much involved here and we still have a lot of unanswered questions.

2

“You wanted to destroy what you couldn’t have.”

Kevin and Moose finally got some screen time in this episode as well, as Moose decides to finally come out to his father, which was no easy decision.  While Moose is under the impression that his father is supporting him, Mr. Mason decides to recruit some of the junior ROTC members and kidnaps both Kevin and Moose, while posing as the Gargoyle King.  Luckily, everyone arrives before anyone is hurt, but Mr. Mason explains that there was no poison in the chalices and he was never going to hurt the boys.  Later on, Mr. Mason reveals that he had once possessed romantic feelings for Tom Keller back in the day and was rejected.  Clearly Mr. Mason is not over this, but taking it out on your son is not the way to go.  Also, it seems like pretty much anyone can just find this Gargoyle King mask and try to get their dirty work done without being caught.  While it looks like this may be the end for Kevin and Moose, something tells me that Kevin has someone out there who is truly worthy.

1

“We know how to dominate too.”

The wait is finally over, as Choni fans got to witness some quality screen time for our favorite couple.  Although, it was not all happy moments for these two, which actually really helped elevate their couple status for me.  During the episode, Cheryl is upset to find out that her mother is trying to prevent her from being accepted into the college of her choice because of her alumni status.  After almost outing Moose in front of the entire school, Toni and Cheryl have an argument, as Toni sheds some light on what really matters in life.  Later on, Toni and Cheryl take on “operation fifty shades of blackmail” and Penelope eventually folds so that Cheryl has an in at her college of choice.  After all, she can’t have her Maple Club clients exposed.  Previously, Cheryl has always been known to be somewhat selfish, but her character has really transformed thanks to “TT.”  Cheryl gives her interview time to Toni, recognizing her girlfriend’s talent and potential, which is a beautiful moment.  She also takes things one step further, when she forms a new gang of sorts for Toni, realizing how much Toni loved being a Serpent.  The girls will be known as “The Pretty Poisons,” but I wonder how the Serpents will react to this new group?  Either way, Cheryl finally took a moment to put Toni’s needs above her own and truly expressed her love for her with her actions.

Overall, the episode provided us with some more setup without Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones, who only had about 30 seconds of screen time.  While I appreciated the screen time for Choni and Kevin, I feel like we can still move the plot forward without leaving characters out.  However, the episode still left us with a lot of questions about The Gargoyle King, The Midnight Club, and Gladys’s return to town, but still no mention of the farm.  Either way, I was very excited to see the growth of Cheryl and Toni’s relationship in this episode, as their love has become something more than passionate and beautiful.  It has now transcended into a selfless and unconditional love that is not to be taken for granted.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post some of your own thoughts and theories on Riverdale in the comments section below.  I would love to hear from you!  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 11: “The Red Dahlia”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 11, I learned that “it’s not what things are, it’s what they appear to be.”  But when everyone in town is holding on to a secret, it’s hard to know who to trust.  After all, “no one’s innocent in crime town.”  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Six:  The Red Dahlia,” Riverdale embraces the noir genre, as Jughead Jones tries to uncover the secrets in town.  Meanwhile, Archie continues to spiral out of control, Veronica is determined to find out who tried to kill her father, and Hermione Lodge proves to be a femme fatale you do not want to mess with.  My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 11 are:

5

“A safe place as long as you know the safe word.”

I wonder if the safe word is “syrup.”  Penelope Blossom has been trying to get her brothel up and running in Riverdale for quite some time, but it looks like she is starting off with her secret sex club, “The Maple Club.”  Betty and Jughead uncover it while they are looking for information on Hiram’s mistress and get a lot more than they bargained for when they witness what is going on here behind closed doors.  While I’m not too sure on the scenery here, it’s nice to see some screen time for our couple, Bughead, as they get back to their roots and try to get to the bottom of the mystery in front of them.

4

“Well played, Miss Veronica.”

During the episode, Veronica embraces the noir genre and her fashion is on point, complete with an elegant hat, as she goes to hire Jughead Jones to find out who tried to have her father killed.  After confronting her mother, Veronica discovers her mother’s connection to the Fizzle Rocks drug fiasco and decides to have the drugs destroyed once and for all.  This may not have been the wisest decision, as Hermione is far from pleased, but Veronica reminds us that she is very capable and has been paying great attention to both her mother and father for quite some time.  At the end of the episode, Veronica no longer wants to find out the information, but is she perhaps a little bit too good at being a Lodge?  After all, manipulation seems to run in the family, but we’ll have to see what our girl Veronica does next.

3

“I’m going to face and kill one more demon.”

Archie continues to abuse alcohol and Fred is not pleased, as he reminds him that “this does not solve your problems.”  Archie receives some unexpected advice from Josie, which is actually spot on.  Josie talks to him about dealing with his demons head on, but Archie decides that he needs to finally face Hiram Lodge after all this time.  After initially going to shoot Hiram, Archie ends up saving his life and the two make a deal to stay away from one another.  But can you really ever make a trustworthy deal with the devil?  Archie listens to Josie and decides that he wants to channel his anger into boxing and start playing music again, which seems to be a step in the right direction.  Thanks Josie!

“You’re not so innocent, Betty.”

After talking with her father, Betty realizes that the murders around her have all been made to look like suicides by poison and that this trend definitely screams Blossom.  After some more detective work, Betty learns that Clifford Blossom was actually poisoned by the “black widow” or “Red Dahlia,” Penelope Blossom.  Cheryl and Toni have already warned Betty to back off, as Cheryl is mourning the death of her Uncle Claudius, although I’m not sure that there are that many tears here, but Betty continues to use all her resources to figure out the connection.  Penelope reveals that Claudius was responsible for the seizures, suggesting that the Fizzle Rocks run off in the river caused them.  However, Penelope Blossom is no medical doctor for sure, as we are still not able to understand why the seizures only impacted girls so far.  After Betty confronts Penelope about what she did, Penelope tries to explain that she only punishes men and that they are the “real poison.”  She also reminds Betty that she talks to Hal quite a bit and knows that she left Chic to die.  Secrets will get the best of you every time, but I’m sure our girl Betty will be able to figure out a plan.

1

“We should agree to keep each other’s secrets.”

After confronting Hermione Lodge, she appears to have nothing to hide.  Hermione is great under pressure and it seems like she may be off the hook, but Jughead Jones knows better.  Hermione may not have pulled the trigger on her husband, but she is pulling all the strings.  Jughead quickly learns that Sheriff Minetta is alive and well and having an affair with Hermione.  Only FP was the one to actually take the shot at Hiram.  Jughead tries to warn his father that Hermione plans to finish the job and frame him, but FP uses his new connection to the media to keep her quiet.  It seems like we are witnessing a strategic game of chess here, but Hermione is not about to let any loose ends remain.  She warns Jughead not to reveal her secrets or she will bring his father down too and she shoots her lover, Sheriff Minetta, proving to be the ultimate femme fatale.

Overall, I was slightly underwhelmed by the noir themed episode.  Shows like Supernatural and Charmed have pulled this off successfully in the past, using the genre as a filler episode.  However, I am still recovering from the filler episode 9 so I was hoping for something more concrete here.  I will say that the plot did continue to move forward, but I was slightly confused with all the twists and turns and almost felt like I had to take notes just to keep up.  While I love the mystery behind Riverdale, I almost felt like it didn’t even need the noir theme or perhaps it didn’t need it to be present for the entire episode.  Either way, it looks like everyone still remains a suspect in some capacity, but we’ll have to stay tuned to see what happens next!

I am so excited to announce that my book, The Search for Alice, is now available!  If you enjoy fairy-tale retellings, paranormal romance, horror, and mystery, then this might be the book for you or someone you know!  Thank you for taking the time to check it out and I appreciate any feedback as well.  I hope you enjoy!

When Kallie Bennett, a jaded teenage girl plagued by her alcoholic mother and her peers molded out of sheer bubble gum perfection, chases after Alice in Wonderland herself, she ends up lost in her own version of Wonderland, which forces her to face her utmost fears and introduces her to familiar characters with a dark twist. Among these characters is Ches, a gorgeous vampire with a conflicted conscience, who becomes Kallie’s guide and blossoming love interest. She also crosses paths with Queen Hartley, a manipulative witch who has the power to strip away one’s memories and imagination, which brings a bone chilling new meaning to “off with their heads.” In The Search for Alice, Kallie starts to realize that her Wonderland is just as frightening as her own reality and that she cannot always run away from her problems. She must figure out a way to defeat Queen Hartley and return home before it is too late, but she soon learns that escaping Wonderland means leaving Ches behind forever.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 10: “The Stranger”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 10, I learned that sometimes you just have to keep fighting.  But what happens when you lose sight of who you are in the process?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Five:  The Stranger,” we learn the fate of Archie Andrews.  Meanwhile, the SATs are approaching, Fangs gets invited to join the inner circle, and Betty finally pays her father a visit.  My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 10 are:

5

“I will kill you…”

Fred Andrews steps up and channels some Dylan McKay, as he threatens Hiram Lodge.  Hiram has been pushing and pushing and Fred reminds him that he will not hesitate to kill him if he goes after his son again.  While Fred typically takes the high road, it’s clear that he has been pushed over the edge, but will his need for revenge get him into trouble?  Either way, it was great to see someone stand up to Hiram.  Hiram may be a master manipulator, but I have a feeling that Fred could easily take him in a fair fight.

4

“You are not cornering me into joining your cult.”

During the episode, Betty quickly learns that her mother, Alice, has given away all her money to the Farm.  When Betty questions her mother about this, Alice explains that the account has not been “drained, just transferred.”  Betty is beyond outraged and learns that Alice forged her father’s signature to make the transaction, which means that Betty will have to pay her father a visit after all.  While there has been quite a lot of set up going on for the Farm, I am really looking forward to seeing that story-line finally develop.  I want to know more about Edgar, their end game, and how they have managed to completely brainwash Alice.

3

“It’s over, isn’t it?”

After Archie returns home with quite a few scars inside and out, Veronica is beyond happy to see him.  It seems like these two are going to make it after all, but where does Reggie fit into this equation?  Reggie is willing to take the high road and allow Veronica and Archie to head off into the sunset together, but he unintentionally tells Archie what happened between them.  After Hiram is shot and recovering from surgery, Veronica and Archie have a talk and come to the conclusion that their relationship is over.  Is this really the end of Varchie for good?  We’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like Reggie has been eagerly waiting in the wings so Veggie fans can rejoice for now.

2

“To keep me coming back to you…”

So we finally get the meeting we have been waiting for, as Betty confronts her father, Hal.  Hal continues to play mind games and even claims that he was the Gargoyle King in the past and that he tried to take down the entire Midnight Club.  After some Nancy Drew investigating, Betty learns that Penelope Blossom has been posing as her mother to go visit Hal and has provided him with this Intel.  Betty soon realizes that Hal did this intentionally to keep Betty coming back to him.  Even though Hal is sick and twisted and a little bit too obsessed with punishing sinners, he does hold on to his connection to Betty.  Hal signs the affidavit for Betty, but it looks like this is a potential new beginning for these two.  Even though Betty swears that she will not return, she has a void at home now that Alice has completely given herself over to the Farm.  Betty continues to confide in her father, but will this eventually lead to her own darkness returning?  We’ll have to wait and see.

1

“You’re looking at the new law in Riverdale.”

During the episode, it seems like everyone is on board to claim that he or she is the true Gargoyle King.  After Hal’s false confession, it seems like Tall Boy is the actual Gargoyle King, but my money is still on Hermione Lodge.  During the episode, Hiram decides that he wants Claudius Blossom to step up as the new sheriff, but Hermione is not happy with this decision.  Tall Boy and Claudius both don’t make it through the episode and even Hiram is shot and left for dead.  Only it’s not that easy to kill a cockroach like Hiram, as he manages to pull through surgery.  At the end of the episode, Hermione meets up with FP and tells him that it’s time.  There’s a new sheriff in town and it’s FP Jones.  It doesn’t seem like being the sheriff requires any type of credentials here, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to have FP leading the way.  However, Hermione has been strategically pulling several strings here, which is hard to ignore.  I have been saying from the start that I believe Hermione is the Gargoyle King, but perhaps she is not in it alone.  Either way, I think that this episode redeemed itself from the unnecessary fluff last week and I’m back on board.  However, let’s not forget about our girls, Cheryl and Toni.  Everyone deserves some screen time here in Riverdale.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 9: “No Exit”

Happy Thursday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 9, we were reminded that “in unity there is strength,” but is that truly enough to handle all of the evil and corruption going on in our favorite bubble gum pop town?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Four:  No Exit,” Archie is attacked by a bear and begins to have some vivid dreams that could be quite meaningful.  Meanwhile, Veronica plays “deal or no deal” with her father, and Betty realizes that being a queen is actually hard work.  My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 9 mid-season premiere are:

5

“I’m their Griffin Queen.”

Well sure, maybe you are Betty, but are you really able to continue housing all of these girls you valiantly rescued from the Sisters of Quiet Mercy?  Betty quickly begins to realize that this is a very difficult task.  It’s one thing to swoop in for a rescue, but what comes next is always that much more challenging.  Betty looks for help from some of the more reliable parents in town and it seems like she may have a temporary solution, but it’s only a matter of time before her reign may end.  Either way, we support you, Betty!

4

“We’ll go, but we’re keeping our jackets.”

So this episode finally gave our favorite couple, Cheryl and Toni, some much needed screen time.  While Choni is told to “break it up” at school, they turn on the heat and decide to break into Hiram Lodge’s residence to leave their mark…so to speak.  The plan backfires when Jughead asks them to return the valuable egg they stole and they are asked to turn in their jackets and go.  Cheryl doesn’t go quietly; however, as she reminds Jughead that Fangs should also be punished for his actions.  While Cheryl and Toni exit begrudgingly from the Serpents, Cheryl is not about to lose her latest fashion statement and reminds Jughead that they will be keeping their jackets.  Although I’m not sure that Cheryl and Toni will stay gone for long, it makes me wonder if Jughead is truly ready to be a leader and handle all that comes with it?

3

“You are not the villain you think you are.”

Archie is still off handling his own inner demons and is brutally attacked by a bear.  While Archie calls for help, he begins hallucinating or having vivid dreams that had me wondering if I was hallucinating along with him.  While it’s clear that Archie is focusing on his enemy, Hiram Lodge, perhaps the bigger villain is his own guilt.  I have to say that I was right there with dream Fred Andrews when he told Archie to just come home already.  Although, that may be a little bit difficult for our main character right now.

2

“Has anyone ever told you, you’re a bad-ass?”

During the episode, Veronica continues to struggle to maintain power over her father, as he stirs up some more trouble.  Hiram is all about making Faustian deals, but is he able to truly tame his daughter?  Veronica ends up securing protection from the Serpents, which seems like a great solution, but it’s only a matter of time before Hiram comes up with a new plan.  Will Veronica be ready?  Perhaps, but it seems like her attention has drifted elsewhere, as Veggie fans celebrated when she and Reggie shared their first kiss.  Is Veronica truly ready to move on from Archie, however?

1

“We go to join thee.”

At the end of the episode, we are left with a lot of setup for what’s to come.  Alice sends the girls from Sisters of Quiet Mercy off to the farm and informs Betty that she only missed Edgar by “like five minutes,” but it looks like the second half of the season will finally give us some concrete answers about the farm.  Jughead also decides to send Fangs under cover, which may be more than he is able to handle, but it looks like he is up for the challenge.  The Sisters of Quiet Mercy are bailed out and leave behind the cryptic message:  “We go to join thee,” which Betty eventually figures out, as the Sisters go to join their “Gargoyle King” with their sacrifice.  Was this by choice or was someone else pulling the strings here to keep them quiet forever?  Finally, Archie is non-responsive when help arrives, which begs the question:  is Riverdale really about to kill off the main character of the show?  This is not the first time that Archie has faced a life or death situation, but something tells me that he’s going to be all right.  Overall, I was slightly disappointed with the episode, as it felt more like a filler or transition one.  It did provide us with a lot of setup for what’s to come, but I would like to see more content highlighted, especially since one of the teaser trailers suggested that Betty is going to be reunited with her father, Hal, very soon.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Riverdale in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking your Favorite Female Performances on Television for 2018

Greetings TV Fans!  As the New Year quickly approaches, it really got me thinking about some of my absolute favorite female performances on television this past year.  Whether it was a moment of female empowerment, the unexpected transformation of a character, or a breakout role, I found myself completely mesmerized by so many of these performances.  They touched my heart and soul and really gave me a lot to think about, as I followed them on their journey in 2018.  Again, it was difficult for me to narrow down my favorite female performances for 2018 because there were honestly so many and I didn’t think it was possible for me to choose my absolute favorite one, which is where you came in!

I ran a three round poll (randomized tournament style) on Twitter and asked for fans to cast their votes so that we can all decide who our favorite female performances are for the year.  Thank you so much for your participation and support, as the tournament was so much fun and actually really competitive!

**Seriously, we even had fans voting to support Alycia Debnam-Carey back from her Lexa days on The 100!  Amazing!

Lexa gif.gif

Round One featured the following Female Performances on TV from 2018:

  • Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom from Riverdale
  • Sarah Paulson as Cordelia Goode from American Horror Story:  Apocalypse
  • Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia Clark from Fear the Walking Dead
  • Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly Maxwell from Ash vs Evil Dead
  • Emma Roberts as Madison Montgomery from American Horror Story:  Apocalypse
  • Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper from Riverdale
  • Lola Flanery as Madi from The 100
  • Ruth Wilson as Alison Bailey from The Affair
  • Marie Avgeropoulos as Octavia Blake from The 100
  • Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina Spellman from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
  • Billie Lourd as Mallory from American Horror Story:  Apocalypse
  • Amanda Warren as Jane Barbour from The Purge

After your votes, the following female actresses moved on to Round Two:

  • Billie Lourd
  • Marie Avgeropoulos
  • Lili Reinhart
  • Emma Roberts
  • Alycia Debnam-Carey

Honorable Mention:  Kiernan Shipka just came up short.  I’m personally looking forward to seeing Sabrina cast some more spells in 2019 and I’m sure you are too!

After your votes in Round Two, the following female actresses moved on to the FINALS:

  • Lili Reinhart
  • Alycia Debnam-Carey
  • Billie Lourd

Honorable Mention & my personal favorite of the year:  Marie Avgeropoulos may not have made it into the finals, but she absolutely captivated my attention in 2018.  I was never really a fan of Octavia previously on The 100, but her character has transformed so much and I was amazed at Marie’s incredible range as an actress.  I am looking forward to seeing more from “Blodreina” in 2019!

After your votes in Round Three, the FINAL results are:

3rd place: Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper from Riverdale

2nd place: Billie Lourd as Mallory from American Horror Story:  Apocalypse

Billie Lourd gif.gif

Drum roll please…

1st place:  Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia Clark from Fear the Walking Dead

Alicia clark fear twd.gif

Alycia Debnam-Carey WINS as your favorite female performance on TV for 2018!  Congratulations!

Alycia Debnam-Carey’s performance was so real and heartbreaking this past year on Fear the Walking Dead and her standout performance was in the episode, “Close Your Eyes” (Season 4, episode 10).  It’s like I could feel every breath she took and every word she blurted out, empathizing with the pain screaming inside her character.  While some of the main characters are now gone from the series, Alycia’s performance proved that she is a strong female protagonist, worthy of the lead and I am absolutely ready and willing to follow her in 2019!

Thanks to all the fans who voted!  I wish you all the best for the upcoming New Year!

I hope you enjoyed the list and please feel free to post your thoughts and comments below on some of your favorite female performances on TV from 2018.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
