Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” Season 15 Episode 3: “The Rupture”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 15 episode 3, I realized that sacrifice is never easy, but sometimes it is necessary.  Would you let the world die so that someone else could live or would you be able to make the impossible choice that Sam Winchester is left with?  Please note MAJOR spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “The Rupture,” the team works together to retrieve Lilith’s horn to summon the souls back to hell, but not everything goes according to plan.  Meanwhile, a sacrifice is made that reminds us that we are coming to the end, but what does it mean for the fate of our remaining characters?  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 15 episode 3 are:

5

“Go team!”

In the beginning of the episode, Rowena tries another ritual to cast the souls back to hell, but it doesn’t work.  Rowena says that they are all going to die and that no magic can stop it.  Dean insists that they try and come up with another plan and it seems like Belphegor has an idea with potential.

Belphegor explains that Lilith had a horn to summon all of the souls at once as a measure of last resort, but that it is probably locked away somewhere in hell.  At this point, no one else has another suggestion, so it’s time for the team to get to work.

4

“Not at any price…”

Ketch is still recovering in the hospital, but he is anxious to return to his friends.  We know that Ketch was hired to track down Belphegor by a demon named Ardat and she certainly makes her presence known now.  Ardat threatens Ketch and demands that he give up his friends, but Ketch has this moment of redemption.

The old Ketch would have given them up to save himself,  but he remains loyal and true.  Ardat rips out Ketch’s heart and leaves him there to die, but we know that not everyone is going to make it on the last season of SPN.  Either way, I’m glad that he did the right thing in the end.  RIP Ketch.

3

“You’re an abomination…”

Castiel is forced to join Belphegor in hell to track down Lilith’s horn, but he is not exactly pleased about it.  Belphegor claims he wants to be friends, but Castiel cannot bear to look at him wearing Jack’s body like a suit.  Castiel tells Belphegor that he is an abomination, but proves to be quite useful when it comes to opening up the box to retrieve the horn.  Nice singing, Cass!

Ardat attempts to break up the party, but is eliminated.  However, she warns Castiel that Belphegor is trying to claim the throne of hell for himself.  Belphegor’s true motives are revealed, explaining that he wants to absorb all the souls so that he can become a god.  After all, there is a vacancy for that position.

Castiel is able to stop him in time, but Belphegor clearly does some damage when he pretends to be Jack one last time.  Castiel recognizes the lie and destroys Belphegor, but it broke his heart to do so.  Will Castiel be able to recover from this or is he too far gone now?  I can’t bear to see him apart from the Winchesters, but he may need to find his sense of worth on his own.  We need you Cass!

2

“It has to be you.”

SPN is not holding anything back for the final season, as Rowena suddenly realizes that “death is an infinite vessel.”  She explains to Sam that she can absorb all the souls and bring them back to hell, but her death will seal the spell.  Sam tells her that there has to be another way, but that pesky prophecy comes back up, as Rowena reminds him that he will need to be the one to kill her.

Sam and Rowena have grown very fond of one another and this moment was beyond heartbreaking, as Sam kills Rowena to save them all.  Rowena absorbs the souls and says goodbye to her boys before she enters into the rift, which had me crying my eyes out.

Rowena has been one of my absolute favorite characters, but I thought that she also found redemption here.  The witch who used to look out for her own interests truly discovered her purpose and this moment with Sam reminded her that she did have a family in the end.

Farewell Rowena.  I will miss you so much!

1

“I don’t think there’s anything left to say…”

After this incredibly heartbreaking moment, Sam and Dean return to the bunker.  Sam is dealing with his grief and Dean reminds him that they did it.  Dean and Castiel have an argument and Castiel feels like Dean is still blaming him for Mary’s death.  There has been a distance between these two for quite a while, but Castiel decides that it’s time for him to move on now.

Where will Castiel go?  Is there a way for him and Dean to resolve their differences?  I hope so because I can’t bear to see him separated from Sam and Dean.  Castiel reminds Dean that he has Sam, but I have always looked at them all as a family and I can’t bear to see them apart.  Let’s hope this gets resolved!  Stay tuned SPN family!

Dark Ditties Presents ‘The Witching Hour’ (Episode 4): Spoiler-Free Review

The Witching Hour is here!

The fourth installment of Dark Ditties blends campy horror humor with some cringe-worthy terror that may seep into your own nightmares. Samantha has been dreaming about a dark and mysterious entity named Tyberius Krane. Not knowing where else to turn, Samantha seeks assistance from a tacky over-the-top paranormal investigations show called, ‘The Witching Hour.’

The mock paranormal show is on the verge of cancellation and it’s clear that they will do anything to hold on to viewers, but things take a dark and unexpected turn when a real supernatural threat emerges after meeting with Samantha.

Fans of Supernatural may thoroughly enjoy this feature length episode, which gave me a Ghostfacers nostalgia. The cast of the mock paranormal show is outrageous and silly, but that adds to the campy horror charm. It’s not all fun and games; however, as we are presented with some genuinely scary moments that will have you on the edge of your seat. Tyberius Krane will give you chills, as we dive into the mystery behind him throughout the episode.

The cast and characters are fantastic and I thought that the effects and musical score really elevated the series, bringing to life a chilling and entertaining episode of horror. While the plot may seem predictable at times, the humor sliced it with new vitality. The show brings you plenty of gore, laughs, and terrifying scares.

A fresh take on horror that is well worth the watch!

Look for Dark Ditties episodes on Amazon Prime!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” Season 15 Episode 2: “Raising Hell”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 15 episode 2, Castiel reminded us that life may be an obstacle course, but we do run our own race.  Sometimes it may feel like we are just puppets, but we can still determine our own fate and what we do each day is real and significant.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “Raising Hell,” some familiar faces show up since it’s basically all hands on deck at this point, but is there anyone who can stop these souls from taking over the world?  Meanwhile, Chuck/God has a family reunion and Dean and Castiel have a heart-to-heart talk.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 15 episode 2 are:

5

“Am I interrupting something juicy?”

It’s always great to see Rowena, who shows up to help the Winchesters out of this jam.  Rowena is willing to help, but she does point out that a town full of ghosts is extremely messy even by Winchester standards.  Rowena also seems to be quite familiar with the leader of the ghosts, Francis.  Will she be able to put a dent in his plan or do we need some more recruits to fight the good fight?  Either way, I always want Rowena on my side!

4

“Ketch…how are you here?”

Rowena is not the only one to show up to help out, as Ketch makes a grand entrance as well.  Ketch and Rowena have an interesting vibe going on, although Sam and Dean don’t seem to be too interested in this love connection.  Ketch claims that he wants to help, but things get interesting when he becomes possessed by Francis.

After Dean uses an iron bullet on him, Ketch reminds him that this isn’t the first time he has tried to kill him, but Castiel cannot heal Ketch, which means that something is definitely off in the universe.  It looks like our former assassin is all right for now, but everyone will need to be more careful moving forward.

3

“What about all of this is real?  We are.”

It wouldn’t be Supernatural if we didn’t get some kind of motivational speech and Castiel and Dean stop to have a heart-to-heart chat.  Dean is still feeling very defeated, but Castiel maintains a positive spin.  I think that Castiel makes a significant point and I’m just hoping that Dean can truly see the good that they are all doing.  There is always this dynamic when one character loses faith, but I’m hoping that they can all find some way to keep on believing in the final season.

2

“You’re on your own.”

Dean is not the only one to think twice about life and his purpose, as Chuck/God decides to pay his sister a visit.  Amara is not exactly pleased to see her brother and seems to be perfectly content right where she is.  Chuck wants to take on some kind of family project, clearly searching for something else beyond the world he just abandoned, but it looks like he is starting to realize his mistake.

Later on, Amara detects that Chuck is not at full strength and it appears that he has also been weakened by the bullet.  When Chuck touches the wound on his shoulder, Sam also feels it, which means that they are somehow linked.  I started thinking about what this means and I was wondering if Sam could be next in line to be the new “God” of the world?

Maybe it’s time for someone else to take over and perhaps this link will allow him to do so.  We’ll have to see how this plays out, but it’s clear that Chuck and Sam’s fates are now intertwined.

1

“I love you guys…”

Kevin also shows up during this episode, but Dean is extremely surprised to see him since he was under the impression that he was in heaven.  Chuck/God lied about this, which means he could have been lying about a lot of other things, but Kevin is now basically trapped between Hell and earth.  Apparently once a soul has been to Hell it can’t go to heaven and Chuck/God is no longer on the Winchesters’ side, so it looks like Kevin doesn’t have much of a choice here.

It’s clear that Kevin thinks of Sam and Dean as his true family and I’m hoping that they can find a way to help him.  However, it looks like they need to first tackle the issue of more souls coming out to play, which makes me wonder how they will get out of this one?  Stay tuned SPN family!

Ranking the top 5 moments from the “Supernatural” Season 15 Episode 1 Season Premiere: “Back and to the Future”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 15 episode 1 season premiere, I realized that we’re coming to the end of the road for the Winchester brothers, but how will it all end?  I mean, “What’s one more apocalypse, right?”  Will Sam and Dean drive off into the sunset together or is there one final battle still coming?  I can’t wait to find out!  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episode, “Back and to the Future,” Sam, Dean, and Castiel face off against an overwhelmingly large group of the undead.  The souls of hell have been freed and they are looking to inhabit the nearest bodies, but some of them seem to be pickier than others.  Meanwhile, Sam and Dean are forced to work with a demon, as some familiar ghosts begin to wreak havoc in town.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 15 episode 1 season premiere are:

5

“Welcome to the end…what did that mean?”

An excellent question for sure, as we start off the season premiere exactly where we left off.  Chuck/God is out and he leaves the Winchester brothers and Castiel to fight off the undead.  Our favorite heroes are outnumbered for sure, but they are able to get to a nearby mausoleum, barricading the door.  That doesn’t necessarily mean that they are out of the woods just yet though…

4

“It’s not Jack…”

For all of you Jack fans (me included), fear not!  Even though Jack appears to be gone, a demon decides to set up shop in his body and even sports some nice new shades since Jack’s eyes were burned right out of him.  Castiel is beyond upset and wants him to get out of Jack as quickly as possible, but the demon offers to help the Winchesters out, claiming that he likes hell the way it is.

While I’m not sure that he can be trusted, they hilariously refer to him as “Crowley Junior” and Jack’s got a new attitude, but it’s probably only a matter of time before he turns on Castiel and the Winchester brothers.

3

“If she’s back, then they’re all back…”

Sam and Dean run into quite a few familiar faces…only they’re ghosts and it looks like a lot of this season may involve them trying to eliminate past foes that they killed previously.  A lot of  these spirits will most likely have vengeance on their minds, but some of them just want to have fun, tormenting several people in town, which forces Sam and Dean to get creative about evacuating everyone.

This is only going to last for a little while; however, so they better come up with something else fast even though the demon’s spell seems to work for now, creating some kind of barrier, trapping the spirits where they are.  Either way, I thought this was a fun and clever way to allow fans the chance to see the Winchesters face some of the more popular villains again and I can’t wait to see who else shows up!

2

“Did you fix it?”

As a reminder, a bullet did hit Sam in the fight against Chuck/God during the season 14 finale, but it looks like there is something strange going on with the wound.  It has no exit and Castiel tries to heal him, but explains that there is some kind of energy he has never felt before surrounding it.  What exactly does this mean for Sam’s fate?  We’ll have to wait and see, but I’m hoping that they can figure out a way to heal him soon.  We need you, Sam!

1

“You and me vs. every soul in hell.  I like those odds.”

Toward the end of the episode, Dean feels frustrated and asks Sam what it all meant, feeling almost like a rat trapped in Chuck’s maze.  Sam reminds him that they saved so many people and that it did matter.  Dean doesn’t seem completely convinced, but Sam also explains that Chuck/God is gone and that “it’s just us.”

After they figure out everything and stop the newest apocalypse, they are basically free.  Dean is on board and they say that they have work to do, but it will definitely be interesting to see where their last journey leads them.

Will the Winchesters be able to earn true freedom or is this the end of the road for them?  It will be a bitter sweet ending for sure and I’m not sure that I’m ready to say goodbye just yet, but I’m looking forward to exploring the road ahead and I can’t wait to see what happens next.  Stay tuned SPN family!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Evil” on CBS: Can another show about demonic possession survive?

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

Even though shows centered around demonic possession often have a lot of potential, they don’t always last that long.  Shows like Outcast and The Exorcist come to mind, which were dark, mysterious, and terrifying in a lot of ways, but yet they were canceled extremely early.  So can Evil pave the way and break the cancellation curse?  Let’s find out!

Evil is a psychological mystery drama series that premiered on CBS on September 26th 2019.  It stars Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, Aasif Mandvi, and Michael Emerson.

The show is scheduled to run weekly episodes, as it follows a non-believing psychologist named Kristen Bouchard, who accepts a second job working for a priest-in-training, David Acosta, examining potential possessions, miracles, and hauntings to determine if there is a logical explanation behind them or if they are truly witnessing something supernatural at work.

The Pros:

An amazing cast and interesting characters.

I absolutely love the chemistry between Kristen (Herbers) and David (Colter), who already seem to be compelling characters with many layers.  I think it works having a non-believer paired up with a believer and I expect to see a great dynamic continue between these two.

I am already a huge Michael Emerson fan (LOST, Person of Interest) and I am super excited that it looks like he will be set up as the nemesis for the series.  Emerson truly shines when he is playing the manipulative and well thought out villain and I think he can really do some damage here…in a good way!

Interesting mysteries with a premise that the audience can truly relate to.

The mysteries behind the potential supernatural occurrences are intriguing enough, but I think this show can truly stand out because it really dives into the man of science/man of faith debate, which I think is something we all look at whenever we examine something that can’t necessarily be explained at first glance.  This plot premise may be enough to allow this demonic possession to survive and it already has a lot of promising potential just from the pilot episode.

The Cons:

I’m not sure if the show was trying to be funny or not?

Even though Kristen is a non-believer, she starts to encounter her own set of night terrors, but are they simply dreams or is there something evil lurking in her subconscious?  I’m not sure just yet, but some of these sequences seemed kind of silly and comical, but I’m not sure if that was the intention?  You’ll see what I mean when you get to them.

At times, the plot and backstory seemed slightly contrived.

Capturing your audience during the pilot episode is never easy for any show,  but at times, I felt like the plot and backstory were somewhat forced.  The characters are really interesting and I guess I just want to see their stories unfold naturally, but I’m only one episode in, so we will see if this improves over time.

So am I in or out?

As of right now, I am slightly torn.  I think that the characters and plot are interesting enough to keep me invested for a while, but I also feel like this show can easily fall into the trap of the weekly mysteries without any compelling plot twist at its core.

I’m hoping that Michael Emerson’s role as the nemesis, Leland Townsend, can shake things up, but we shall see.  I guess I am in about 75 percent right now, but I am looking forward to watching more episodes and I think that this show has a lot of potential.

I hope you enjoyed the review and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Evil in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

How will it all end for the Winchesters?  After that cliffhanger ending in season 14, it looks like our favorite hunters have a lot of work to do, but luckily they have some backup in our favorite angel, Castiel.  What can we expect for the final season?  I’m not sure, but I would love to see some fun nostalgia sprinkled in with some returning guest stars.  It will be beyond difficult to say goodbye, but I know that the series will end the way it is intended to and I’m looking forward to watching these final adventures with Sam and Dean.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie

Where to watch: Netflix (to be released at a later date on AMC)

So I initially didn’t think to put this on the list since it is technically a movie, but how can I leave out one of my favorite series of all time?!  Jesse Pinkman is back and Breaking Bad fans everywhere can rejoice, as we finally get to find out what happens next in the story!

The Purge (Season 2)

The purge 9 10 1

Premiere date: Tuesday, October 15th 2019

Where to watch: USA Network

What happens on Purge Night doesn’t necessarily stay on Purge Night.  I love The Purge movies and when I first heard about the television series last year, I really didn’t go into it with high expectations.  Well I was in for a huge surprise, as this show became one of my favorite series of the year.  It’s fast paced, surprising, and a lot of fun and I can’t wait to see what happens in season 2 as we follow a brand new group of characters.  Are you ready, citizens?

Castle Rock (Season 2)

Castle rock 9 10

Premiere date: Wednesday, October 23rd 2019

Where to watch: Hulu

The Stephen King anthology series was another bone-chilling and haunting surprise for me last year and I have been waiting quite some time for a premiere date announcement for season 2.  Well it looks like we are in luck, as new episodes will return right before Halloween, which certainly seems fitting.  It looks like we will follow a new story and a new group of characters in the mysterious town of Castle Rock, but I am hoping to get some Easter eggs or connections to season one.  We shall see!

Shameless (Season 10)

Shameless 9 10

Premiere date: Sunday, November 10th 2019

Where to watch: Showtime

We said goodbye to fan-favorite, Fiona Gallagher for good last season, but can season 10 keep the Gallaghers relevant?  Let’s hope so!  While I am disappointed that Fiona will no longer be on the show, it looks like we will need to turn our attention to Lip, especially now that he is going to be a father.  The laughs never fail on one of my favorite series of all time and I can’t wait to see what the Gallagher family does next!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to comment on any TV Premieres that YOU are looking forward to watching in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

My performance of the week ending 4/27/19 on TV goes to…

Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Alexander Calvert, and Misha Collins as Sam, Dean, Jack, and Castiel on Supernatural. I was absolutely blown away by their performances in the season 14 finale and I have to give the performance of the week to all four of these amazing actors because they really pulled out all the stops.  The season finale left us with a major cliffhanger and SPN fans everywhere are wondering what the final season will look like, but I have to take a moment to talk about the growth of some of our favorite characters and the incredible performances of the cast.  Please note some spoilers are ahead.

Let’s start with Sam.  Jared Padalecki is always so brilliant and Sam has really been making me cry lately.  I love that Sam always tries to see the good in everyone.  He knows that he needs to make difficult decisions, but they continue to weigh on him, which makes me connect so much to his character.

Dean has been through so much in season 14 and he has shut down on more than one occasion.  However, Dean has a truly significant moment in the season finale when he decides not to follow through with eliminating Jack.  Unlike Sam, Dean is always prepared to do what is necessary and he seems to be first in line to sacrifice himself even when he should stop and think for a moment, playing the role of big brother.  However, Dean truly takes a minute to think about his actions, as he also considers what his mother may think, which really helped develop his character even more.  Jensen never disappoints!

Castiel has grown so much from his first appearance on the show and Misha Collins continues to impress me with his portrayal of Cass.  Sure, Castiel may bring on the laughs, but he also wants goodness to prevail, refusing to give up hope even when it seems like all hope is gone.  Castiel’s father-son relationship with Jack is so beautiful and real and I think it has really made such an incredible impact on his own character, realizing what life is all about.

When Jack lost his soul, my heart broke because there has always been such an innocence and naivete to Jack, played brilliantly by Alexander Calvert.  Jack’s spiral into darkness is that much more heartbreaking because of this, especially when we know that Sam, Dean, and Castiel are his real family.  When Dean points the gun at Jack, he tells Dean that he understands, which is such an important moment for him.  Even though Jack feels empty and different, he knows what his family has to do and he accepts his fate, proving that he is still capable of so many great things, but we’ll have to see if his fate is sealed or not.

What’s next for our favorite characters?  I’m not sure, but I can’t wait for season 15 to premiere.  It will be bitter sweet for me, as I have grown up watching these characters and I consider them to be a part of my own family.  While I always knew that the show would one day come to an end, it doesn’t make it any less heartbreaking.  However, the show will also live on for me and I will continue to be thankful for witnessing such incredible performances over the years.  I can’t wait to see how it all ends!

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 20: “Welcome to the End”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 20 season finale, I realized that stories can be dangerous, but what happens when the story is over?  When there’s no glimmer of light left to maintain that last bit of hope?  Can we write our own story or is the end clear cut?  Please note major spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Moriah,” Sam and Dean are visited by an old friend, who claims he just wants to help, but does he?  Meanwhile, Jack’s powers continue to impact the world and Castiel tries to get through to him before it’s too late.  My top 5 moments from the Supernatural season 14 episode 20 season finale are:

5

“Takes one to know one.”

In the beginning of the episode, Sam and Dean try to track down Jack using every resource they can find and Dean comments that he is surrounded by nerds.  However, Sam gently reminds him that he does watch Jeopardy every single night.  I do too, Dean!  I thought this was a clever way to keep a little bit of humor going, as there were so many dramatic and serious moments during the season finale.  Glad to see that Dean is a nerd at heart for sure!

4

“It’s everywhere…”

Jack’s powers continue to spiral out of control, as he demands that everyone stop lying, which causes the entire world to spill the truth about everything.  This can be extremely dangerous, especially when we learn that Sam’s favorite music artist is actually Celine Dion, not Elvis.  Even the president’s lies are being revealed and Crowley gets a special shout out, when we learn that he actually made a deal with him once upon a time.  Sam, Dean, and Castiel recognize that Jack must be behind this, but it looks like they may need some extra help to stop him.

3

“You’re my favorite show!”

Surprise…God, aka Chuck, is back!  It looks like Castiel’s long distance phone call actually worked, as Chuck makes an appearance to help the Winchesters deal with the Jack situation.  Chuck fixes the lying issue with a snap of his fingers, but his solution for Jack is much more complicated.  Chuck presents them with a gun, but he is still working out its name.  Personally I liked “The Equalizer.”  Chuck explains that the gun will work in some kind of quantum leap way and eliminate Jack, but Dean breaks it down and says, “You kill him…you die.”

So who is going to be the one to shoot him and is there any other way?  Castiel wants Chuck to help restore Jack’s soul, but Chuck reminds him that souls are tricky and messy, so it looks like they may not have a choice.  Sam refuses to accept this and asks Chuck why it always has to fall on them.  Chuck reveals that Sam and Dean are his favorites, but they are much more than a story, as this is life to them.  Is Chuck actually helping or is he about to cause even more damage now with his intervention?

2

“I understand.”

Castiel finally reaches Jack and the two sit down to have a father-son talk.  Jack reveals to Castiel that he feels empty and that if he were able to love, he would love him.  Before Castiel can get much further, Dean approaches them with Chuck’s gun, but Castiel and Sam try to stop him.  Jack faces Dean and simply says, “I understand,” recognizing Dean’s decision and what this means, which was absolutely heartbreaking.

Sam tries to get Dean to listen to reason, revealing that perhaps they are only playing out parts in Chuck’s story.  Dean puts the gun down, which frustrates Chuck, who tries to convince him to shoot Jack, promising that he will bring back Mary.  This moment was truly significant for Dean because we know how much Dean loves his mother and he would do anything for her, but even he recognizes that this is not right and that Mary would not want him to do that.

1

“Welcome to the end…”

After Dean turns Chuck down, Sam reminds him that “this isn’t just a story, it’s our lives.”  Chuck replies with, “Have it your way” and begins killing Jack.  Sam shoots Chuck, which stuns him and he officially welcomes them to the end.  The sun is gone and Sam, Dean, and Castiel are surrounded by darkness, as they lean over Jack’s lifeless body.  Jack wakes up in the Empty and Billie is there, so does this mean that perhaps this is not the end for Jack?  Is Jack able to help or intervene somehow?  I’m not sure, but we’ll have to wait and see.  Sam, Dean, and Castiel have a lot to deal with as well, as the souls from hell are released upon the world.  The last scene shows the undead surrounding them, as they all grab a suitable weapon, but they are definitely outnumbered here.

So what does this mean for our favorite characters?  We will now be approaching the final season of SPN and anything goes.  If all the souls have been released from hell, does that mean we could see Crowley in the final season?  We know that Chuck is a storyteller, but what does this actually accomplish?  Is he so fed up with his favorite characters that he is willing to sacrifice the world and start over?  Is he threatened by Jack?  I’m not sure, but it looks like Sam, Dean, and Castiel have a lot to deal with.  Stay tuned for the final season of Supernatural and in the meantime, “Carry on my Wayward son!”

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 19: “Jack in the Box”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 19, I realized that innocence can be dangerous.  Good intentions can easily be manipulated or distorted and trusting the people you care about the most can help or hurt you.  But what happens when that trust is finally broken?  Do we give in to the emptiness or do we still try to find a glimmer of humanity buried within? Please note major spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Jack in the Box,” Sam and Dean try to honor Mary and have a meaningful discussion with other Bobby.  Meanwhile, Jack continues to be pestered by Lucifer and is tricked into doing “God’s work” by Duma.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 19 are:

5

“We’re so glad for the time that we had.”

In the beginning of the episode, Sam and Dean hold a memorial service for Mary and invite some of their hunter friends.  Dean talks about how they got a second chance with her and how they really got to know Mary as a person.  He explains that she was strong and stubborn as hell and also mentions that she really couldn’t cook worth a damn, but this moment was truly touching, as we see how many lives Mary influenced over the years.  However, the moment when Dean goes off by himself and is just seen crying was very powerful for me and caused me to shed a few tears of my own.  Dean always tries to be so strong for his friends and family, but when he is by himself, he finally allows himself a moment to truly mourn the loss of his mother.

4

“If his human side is gone, you know what’s left…Lucifer.”

Other Bobby makes an appearance at Mary’s memorial and takes out a monster who was lurking in the crowd, but please make sure he gets his hatchet back!  Bobby actually provides Sam, Dean, and Castiel with some great advice, as he reminds them about what they need to do.  Even other Bobby explains that he has a soft spot for Jack, but he understands that sometimes you need to do what is necessary for the greater good.  Dean seems all for this, but can Castiel and Sam follow along?  We know that they both have a strong connection to Jack and it may be more difficult for them to try and eliminate him, as they understand that he doesn’t fully comprehend his actions.

3

“It doesn’t have to be a dream.”

After Castiel fills Duma in about what’s going on with Jack, she takes this opportunity to use him to her advantage.  Duma is trying to secure her place as the leader of heaven and she manipulates Jack by telling him that Sam and Dean would want him to do God’s work.  However, Jack starts to take some passages from the bible too literally when he actually begins to make them come true.  I even had to turn away from the screen when the worms started eating that pastor from the inside.  Gross!  Jack still has so much naivete, but this is now dangerous because he doesn’t have a soul to truly think about the consequences of his actions.  Jack begins to make going to heaven a reality and he’s even making angels out of humans, which could become a very dangerous threat.

2

“They never loved you…”

Lucifer continues to exist within Jack’s mind and it doesn’t look like he is going anywhere.  Jack tries to tell him that he doesn’t want to listen to him, but Lucifer can be very convincing and he plays on Jack’s weaknesses.  He repeatedly tells Jack that he cannot trust the Winchesters and tries to get Jack to unleash the power within him.  Is Jack a greater threat than Lucifer?  I’m not sure, but it doesn’t help that he has him cheering in his mind’s corner at all times.

1

“I don’t know if I can do it.”

Dean recognizes that they cannot defeat Jack because he is so powerful, but he can be contained.  He circles back to the Ma’lak box, which he was going to use to trap him and Michael once upon a time.  Dean tells Sam that he needs to be the one to lie to Jack, but Sam is not sure that he can do this.  Jack trusts Sam so completely and Dean knows that he will do what he says, promising that they are working on some sort of spell to restore Jack’s soul even though this is not true.  Sam does what he has to and locks Jack inside, but his guilt is overwhelming him.

Castiel eliminates Duma and tries to tell the Winchesters that Jack was tricked, but it’s too late.  The trust has been broken and Jack is actually able to tap into enough of his power to break free from the box with Lucifer’s support.  Jack stares at Sam, Dean, and Castiel with glowing eyes, suggesting that he has become something even more powerful.  Is there any way to stop Jack?  Stay tuned for the season finale next week!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 18: “Absence”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 18, Dean reminded us that sometimes we get a “get out of jail free card,” but nothing is ever really for free and everything has its price.  Please note major spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Absence,” Sam and Dean try to track down Jack and Mary with Rowena’s help and make a shocking discovery.  Meanwhile, Jack continues to be burdened by his guilt and receives a visit from an unlikely guide.  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 18 are:

5

“You cannot come back from that.”

After the major cliffhanger last week, we catch up with Jack, who is having trouble processing his actions.  Jack is greeted by Nick…or Lucifer…or actually him in his subconscious.  Nick/Lucifer/Jack channels his inner Jiminy Cricket and acts as a sort of guide or conscience for Jack, but what direction is he really pulling him toward?  Jack desperately wants to find a way to make things right and bring Mary back, as he realizes that Sam and Dean may never forgive him, but can he really accept the consequences of his actions?

4

“They were never alone.”

Even though we find out that Mary Winchester is truly gone, we get to see her in a series of flashbacks done brilliantly in black and white sprinkled throughout the episode.  One of my favorite flashbacks featured her and Castiel when Mary first returned from the dead.  Castiel asks Mary if she is still afraid of him and it was interesting to see how much of an impact Mary made on each and every one of them.  Later in the memory, Castiel tells Mary how happy Sam and Dean are now that she has returned to them so they don’t have to be alone and she tells Castiel that they were never alone, truly appreciating how much Castiel has looked after Sam and Dean for so many years like family.

3

“Don’t even say her name.”

Once Sam and Dean begin to realize that something terrible has happened, Dean’s anger gets the best of him.  Castiel comes clean with Dean and explains that he knew that something was wrong with Jack and Dean says, “If he did something to her then you’re dead to me.”  Castiel tries to explain that he was scared and that he wanted to believe that Jack was good, which is understandable, but we know that Dean has gone through so much and has a beautiful bond with Mary.  It was heartbreaking to see this reaction, but I’m hoping that he will follow Mary’s lead and continue to try and do the right thing.  However, I constantly notice that Sam, Dean, and Castiel keep things from one another to protect them and it seems like Jack has picked up on this behavior as well.  Maybe it’s about time they begin to share everything with one another to avoid moments like this.

2

“Mary Winchester is no longer on this earth.”

Sam and Dean look to Rowena for help, but Jack has the same idea.  Jack tries so hard to make things right, but sometimes dead is just dead.  Rowena was absolutely fantastic in this episode and it was interesting to see her try and reason with Jack.  She could have tried to fight him, but she tries to get through to him, telling him that they all want the same thing, which really shows how far Rowena has come as a character.  However, it looks like it might be too late for Jack, as he fails to bring Mary back and he is left with his subconscious Nick/Lucifer/Jack telling him that he can no longer trust the Winchesters.  Is Jack too far gone or is there some way they can still reach him?

1

“She is happy.”

The most resonating moment for me was when we got to see Dean’s flashback of Mary.  It wasn’t a long conversation or some epic moment.  It was just the two of them driving back together with Mary sleeping on his shoulder.  I thought that this memory was so powerful and important, reminding us that it’s the series of little moments that truly count.  Even though Mary is gone, Castiel peeks in on her personal heaven and tells Sam and Dean that she is happy and at peace with John.  Mary Winchester is complete even though this may impact Sam and Dean for the rest of their lives, but at least she is not suffering.  I had tears in my eyes when the last scene of the episode focused in on the desk with Sam, Dean, and Mary’s initials all carved in the center of it, reminding us that this bond will never be broken and that they will see each other again one day.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
