Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 16: “BIG FUN”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 16, I remembered why I love Riverdale so much. It’s not always easy to do a musical episode, even though some shows have done an amazing job in the past, but Riverdale continues to provide us with the “BIG FUN” for sure. It doesn’t feel forced or out of place, it just works and it gives us some great entertainment along the way, while continuing to further the plot. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Fifty-One: BIG FUN,” our characters participate in the Heathers musical, but are in for a surprise when Evelyn Evernever is announced as the co-director of the play. Meanwhile, Veronica’s family begins to fall apart, Toni and Cheryl have a dance-off filled with attitude, and Jughead tries to follow up on a lead that could tie back to his mother. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 16 are:

“Let’s fight for us.”

Even though we have a fabulous musical going on, the drama continues between some of our favorite couples. The cat is out of the bag, thanks to Evelyn’s obnoxious share time circle, and everyone now knows about Archie and Josie. Veronica takes the news surprisingly well, but she is distracted with her own issues at home. Is Archosie just “two lonely souls filling a void” or is there something more here? Archie suggests that they take that leap of faith together and find out who they are as a couple. Even though Josie is hesitant at first, it looks like Archosie is still going strong for now.

“You make me feel better.”

During the episode, Veronica finds out that her parents are separating and she is devastated by the news. Even though the Lodge family is far from perfect, Veronica insists that they can all work together as a family, but Hiram coldly tells her that he knows about Hermione trying to have him killed and tells her that they are not a family anymore. Veroncia requests that they show up one final time together at the musical so she can try and hold on to some kind of happy memory, which they agree to for their daughter’s sake, but Hiram is not someone you want to cross. Now that he knows that his wife has betrayed him, what will be his next move? Meanwhile, Veronica runs back into the arms of Reggie during all of this, desperately trying to feel something, but she realizes that Reggie has stronger feelings for her and that maybe this wasn’t the best decision, even though Veggie fans are rooting for them. Are they end game? I’m not so sure about that, but Reggie thinks that they should cool it for a while until Veronica can figure out what she wants.

“You let it go.”

Jughead finds out that his old trailer could be potentially used to make drugs and he is beyond upset. Jughead still clings to many memories here, but he also wants to stop his mother’s drug operation. Betty gives him some advice and explains that he can just let it go, but it looks like Betty is starting a trend of burning things to the ground. Even though burning the trailer brings Bughead closer, I am worried that Betty’s darkness has re-surfaced, but will she take this rage out on the Farm or on someone she loves?

“Maybe it’s not too late for us.”

While everyone practices for the musical, Cheryl shows off that she is the ultimate HBIC or the “demon queen of high school,” as if she were made for the role of Heather Chandler. However, Cheryl is less than thrilled when Kevin announces that Toni will be the choreographer. Toni and Cheryl continue to clash during a dance-off and the tension escalates when Toni wears a red ensemble, as Cheryl reminds her that “I am red…here, I invented red.” The bitch is back and I wasn’t really liking it, as Cheryl has come so far with the help of Toni. Fear not Choni fans, Toni gives Cheryl an olive branch of sorts and the two finally talk about their fight, suggesting that it is not too late for them after all. Cheryl is used to an “all or nothing” approach to love, but Toni tries to remind her that this is not always the way. Our favorite couple is reunited and they even share a kiss, having Choni fans cheering everywhere.

“I knew my dad would like it.”

Evelyn has been announced as the co-director of the play, which Betty is not thrilled about at all, recognizing an ulterior motive here. Betty puts her spy skills to the test and finds out that Evelyn has been inducting some of her classmates into the Farm, but Principal Weatherbee seems unconvinced by Betty’s evidence, suggesting that perhaps he is also caught up with the Farm. At the end of the musical, a slow clap begins, as Edgar Evernever, played by One Tree Hill’s Chad Michael Murray, stands up. Others follow his lead, suggesting that the Farm is everywhere, but will Betty and Jughead be able to get to the bottom of this now that Edgar is out in the open? Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 15: “A Norman Rockwell Painting with Leather Jackets”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 15, I thought back to Jughead’s question: What exactly is the American Dream? Does it involve being surrounded by family and friends? And if so, what happens when that dream is threatened? Do you go on pretending to protect those you love or do you shatter the picture perfect image to release the truth? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Fifty: American Dreams,” Gladys buys Alice Cooper’s home, which makes things a little awkward for Jughead and Betty. Meanwhile, our favorite couples all begin to clash, but is this the beginning of the end for them? My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 15 are:

“Do you love her FP?”

After Gladys buys the Cooper home with cash, she is ready to move in and get a do-over with her family. FP recognizes the importance of keeping them all together and tells Alice that it’s over. Alice asks him if he loves Gladys and he tells her that she is the mother of his children, but when Alice asks if FP loves her, he says, “It doesn’t matter now,” which is absolutely heartbreaking. For all of you Falice fans, my heart goes out to you, but I’m not sure that FP will want to continue to rebuild his marriage once he discovers that Gladys has been lying about everything. Don’t give up hope!

“Now we don’t owe each other anything.”

It seems like love is not in the air during this episode, as Reggie begins to clash with Veronica. Reggie wants to become Veronica’s business partner and he has certainly proven his worth, but Veronica is a Lodge through and through, as she wants to be cautious about this decision, especially when she still owes Gladys and her father money. Reggie is not happy with this and tries to steal back his car, but Gladys catches him, which is not good for anyone. Veronica is able to smooth things over with Gladys, but not with Reggie, who just wants to matter. Veronica just came out of a serious relationship with Archie, but I’m not sure she is ready to surrender the guard around her heart just yet. In a selfless moment, she does buy back Reggie’s car from Gladys, but coldly explains that they don’t owe each other anything anymore, suggesting that Veggie is over for now.

“I need to focus my rage.”

In this episode, Cheryl and Toni continue to clash, as Toni is looking to find her own identity with the Pretty Poisons. Cheryl tries to be supportive, but she feels Toni slipping away from her. Cheryl pulls out all the stops in a gorgeous red gown and arrives to gamble, but Toni recognizes that she is casing the place, ultimately to get Toni’s attention. This certainly works and provides Choni fans with a hot and steamy moment for these two, but it’s not enough. Toni decides to move out of Cheryl’s house, suggesting it was maybe too soon too fast. I felt for Cheryl so much in this moment, but our girl is not about to sit around crying. While playing croquet, Cheryl summons Kevin and explains, “I need to focus my rage.” And so we get our setup for the Heathers musical, which we have been anxiously waiting for. I’m sure Cheryl will rock it as Heather Chandler, but will this distraction heal her broken heart? I’m really hoping that Choni can reconcile, but it looks like our favorite couples are all dropping like flies. Stay strong, Bughead! I seriously can’t take another breakup.

“Sacrifice no more.”

Betty, Jughead, and Archie work together to find out how to save the Red Paladin. Mr. Lodge has been supplying Archie with information and tells him that he gave out many “Kill the Red Paladin” cards, but Archie needs a way to lure them all out. Jughead comes up with the brilliant idea to create an advanced quest as an addendum, but they need to make it look like it comes straight from the Gargoyle King. The plan works, as we are welcomed to the “Iron Mountain,” better known as Mr. Lodge’s abandoned boxing gym. How convenient. Archie has no easy task in front of him, as he has to fight every opponent and win. Archie sheds some blood and things are not looking so good when the last challenger steps in the ring, but Archie pulls through to win and tells him, “That was for me.” Go Archie! While Archie may have now retrieved all of the “Kill the Red Paladin” cards, I still do not trust Mr. Lodge. Even though they have a truce now, he seems a little bit too forthcoming, but we’ll have to wait and see how this unfolds.

“I’m proud to be your son.”

Veronica comes clean with Betty and tells her all about Gladys, but Betty explains that she has to tell Jughead the truth. Jughead initially doesn’t know what to make of this and tells Betty that he has to figure it out on his own, which had my heart sinking. After discovering the truth, Jughead confronts his mother, but she reminds him that she is just trying to put her family back together again. At FP’s 50^th birthday party, Jughead is asked to give a speech and he has the opportunity to shed some light on everything, only he can’t break his father’s heart like this. Jughead loves his father and knows that this news would destroy him. In a heartwarming moment, Jughead says that FP is “someone who would do anything for his family” and further says, “We’ll always be there for you and I’m proud to be your son.” However, Jughead Jones is not about to let anyone mess with his family, as he teams up with Betty in the end to determine what to do next, as Bughead remains strong. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Passage” season 1 episodes 9 and 10: “You Taught Me Everything”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching Fox’s The Passage two-part season 1 finale, we learned that “one world died and another was born.” But in this new world, everyone has to live with their choices and consequences. Will they rise up and continue to fight or will they give in to the darkness? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.

In last night’s episodes, “Stay in the Light” and “Last Lesson,” we learn what happens next when the virals wake up, as the twelve are now complete. Meanwhile, Amy is faced with some impossible decisions, sacrifices are made, and a new future is upon us. My top 5 moments from The Passage season 1 episodes 9 and 10 are:

“It has to be me.”

During the episode, Dr. Sykes is still trapped and Clark and the others try to get her out and retrieve the antiviral, especially after Lila is infected. While Dr. Sykes is trying to stay calm, Shauna breaks in and these two come face to face with one another. Only Shauna doesn’t initially attack Dr. Sykes and taps into her mind to ask her why she had been nice to her. Dr. Sykes tells Shauna that “in another world we could have been friends.”

But is Shauna stalling or is there something more here? Before we can find out anything further, Brad shoots Shauna, causing her to flee and tries to help Dr. Sykes. Amy is faced with an impossible decision, as she decides to push the button that will destroy that section of Project Noah with Brad and Dr. Sykes still inside. Amy is prepared to make this sacrifice, proving to really be the bravest person in the world. They have less than two minutes to get out, but the virals show up to make things interesting.

Dr. Sykes knows what she must do and tells Brad to get the antiviral to Lila and the CDC, sacrificing herself to save as many lives as she can. Dr. Sykes has always put the needs of the many above her own and she stays true to her integrity in this heartbreaking moment.

“I have work to do.”

After the virals escape, Dr. Lear blames himself and contemplates taking his own life. However, Lacey shows up and changes his mind, reminding him that he still has work to do. Dr. Lear may have been the “author of this horror show,” but with Dr. Sykes gone, he could be the only one to stop it and potentially save the world. It’s a long shot, but Dr. Lear refuses to give up even when Fanning continues to appear to him in his mind. Even though the future looks bleak, it’s good to see Dr. Lear trying to make a difference and fix things with Lacey’s support.

“Maybe I could be that girl in the diner again.”

After the explosion, we learn that the virals are still alive, as they are finally free in the world. Clark and the others try to stop as many as possible, but Clark is severely injured and about to die. Shauna approaches him and he says, “I was wondering when you were going to show up.” Rather than rip him to shreds, Shauna taps into his mind and the two of them are lying on the hood of a car together, away from all of the chaos and noise. Shauna explains, “I thought this might be a nicer place to die.” Clark seems ready to accept his fate, but Shauna offers him a choice. Clark accepts and Shauna saves his life, but there is a price.

The two of them are now blood linked and 30 days later, Clark is bringing Shauna live bodies to consume. However, Shauna wants out of their deal, as Clark has been keeping Vegas as safe as possible, but she feels like he is starving her. All of the virals returned home when they escaped and their homes quickly became “hot spots.” Clark feels trapped in his circumstances, but he still shares a strong connection with Shauna, as he gives in and kisses her passionately, suggesting that this link is nowhere near severed.

It’s interesting to see that Shauna took a different approach, as Carter was unable to tame the beast within him. What made Shauna different and what will she do next? We’ll have to wait and see, but this dark seduction between her and Clark seems like it will continue.

“For me, this was the best time…we were a family.”

During the 30 days later portion, we learn that Amy is with Brad and Lila at a cabin. It seems like everything here is serene and untouched, as we witness Amy and Brad fishing together. Amy finally has a family, but everything is temporary. For those of us shipping Brad and Lila, they finally get the opportunity to reconcile and be together, but Lila recognizes that she has a duty to the world. Lila decides to leave and try and help others with Lacey, leaving Amy alone with Brad.

Brad teaches Amy how to use a bow and arrow and how to take care of herself. Brad recognizes that the threat is nowhere near over and he wants her to be prepared. In a heartwarming moment, we see Brad braiding Amy’s hair. Amy asks him how she looks and he says, “Like a bad-ass.” Brad reminds Amy that she is not like Fanning. He tells her that she has a good heart and that she is the bravest person he has ever met, which is truly touching. I wish I could freeze this moment in time for them, as Amy and Brad have a bond that is so real and beautiful. Only, we know that things are about to change and they change so quickly.

“Sometimes the right thing is the hardest thing in the world to do.”

Fanning continues to try and tap into Amy’s mind to manipulate her when she is at the cabin. After a neighbor is infected, Brad gets bitten and Amy is left with another impossible choice. Seriously, this poor girl has so much to deal with. The new friends they met tell Amy that they need to shoot Brad before he turns, but Amy refuses to let this happen. Amy unleashes the monster buried deep within her and kills them. She gives Brad the cure and leaves, which is beyond heartbreaking.

Amy says, “I don’t regret what I did. I only regret running away.” She recognizes that Brad taught her everything. She found a family because of him and she learned how to be ready. At the end of the season finale, we flash forward to 97 years later in the Palm Desert. Amy still has her bow and arrow and takes out a viral, explaining that the world has been taken over by them. However, humanity still exists in some places and Amy holds on to the hope that Brad is somehow still alive, which keeps her going and reminds her “not to panic.”

Overall, there was so much jam-packed into this two-part season finale, that I almost don’t know where to start. We know that Amy initially saw the future and saved Fanning from dying, but why did she do this? There are so many unanswered questions, but I appreciate how much the show tried to stay true to the book while also creating some unique differences and I really hope that the series gets picked up for another season because I am not ready to say goodbye to Amy just yet.

The performances were all incredible and I just wish we had more episodes right now. This show genuinely surprised me and it has the potential to continue to carve its way into one of my favorite series of all time. Let’s just hope we get to see what happens next!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Passage” season 1 episode 8: “You Can Do Anything You Want With Your Life”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching Fox’s The Passage season 1 episode 8, Shauna reminded us that “you always have a choice,” but will you make the right one? After all, “things are gonna start to get scary.” So which path do you choose? Do you dive into the darkness or do you fight your way back toward the light? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “You Are Not That Girl Anymore,” we learn more about Clark’s connected past with Shauna and start to understand their relationship more. Meanwhile, Amy’s condition takes a turn for the worse, as Dr. Sykes and Lila work together to try and save her, and Lacey is on her way. My top 5 moments from The Passage season 1 episode 8 are:

“I don’t do riddles, dude. Just say what you mean.”

During the episode, Amy’s condition worsens, as she deals with Fanning in her mind. Fanning says, “The end is near, my dear,” but Amy is not buying it. Fanning tries to approach Amy as her friend, but Amy recognizes that this is a trap. However, temptation is still present, as Amy must make a very important decision that will determine her fate. Will she choose a path of darkness or light?

“She’s not your twelfth.”

In last week’s episode, Carter tried to warn Amy and I was unsure of his intentions. However, in this episode, Carter stands up to Fanning and tries to protect Amy, which proves that there is still some humanity left inside him. Carter recognizes that the monster is there, but is his humanity strong enough to conquer it? Fanning keeps explaining that they need twelve, but why? Will this make him invincible? There are still so many unanswered questions surrounding this, but it looks like we are about to find out more.

“You want to change the locks.”

Guilder makes the announcement that he is rebooting Project Noah and everyone is relieved of their duties. Dr. Sykes is still determined to find a way to save Amy. However, this becomes difficult when they are locked out, as Guilder turns over the security protocol to Martinez, who is actually Subject Two. Good job, Guilder. Clark does not give up, as they use Grey’s clearance to get inside. Dr. Sykes teams up with Lila and they try to stop the virus so Amy doesn’t turn. After several tests, it seems like they get a lucky break, as they determine that Amy’s cells will block Fanning’s virus with this antiviral. However, Grey continues to be Fanning’s lap dog, as he locks Sykes inside and attacks Lila before they can get the antiviral to Amy. Hopefully Lila will be OK, but Grey continues to be a pest, as Fanning uses him like a puppet.

“You are not that girl anymore.”

During the episode, we get an important glimpse into Clark and Shauna’s past together. Shauna tries to escape and Clark tracks her down and takes her to a diner. Shauna asks him to tell her something real and Clark opens up about previously wanting to be a writer. Shauna tells him that she would read his poems and it’s clear that there is an undeniable connection between these two. However, Clark’s men arrive and take Shauna back to Project Noah, as she feels hurt and betrayed, reminding Clark that “you always have a choice.”

In present day, Shauna continues to tap into Clark’s mind and tells him, “The only way you make it out alive is with me.” Clark initially seems to be really considering this, but ultimately decides to kiss Shauna, revealing that he did feel something for the lost girl from Vegas, but that she is no longer that girl and he will kill her. But will Shauna kill him first for his betrayal? We’ll have to stay tuned to find out.

“You can do anything you want with your life.”

Toward the end of the episode, Fanning presents Amy with a choice. She will ride her bike through a dark tunnel and all she needs to do is make it to the other side to accept her fate or she can stay in the tunnel and die. Amy is very conflicted about what to do, but Brad stays by her side in the cell, as her fever gets worse. Brad tells Amy, “You can break your promise to me. If you have to, you can let go. I love you no matter what.” These words are so real and inspiring; reminding us just how strong the bond is between these two. Amy is at a crossroads and ultimately makes the courageous decision to turn her bike around and ride past Fanning into the light. Amy wakes up, just as all of the cages around them open and Brad realizes that they have to get out of there quickly. So, here we go. The cages are open and the vampires are free, as Brad grabs Guilder and they barely make it into the elevator without a scrape. The last scene leaves us with Amy and her glowing eyes. I mean, talk about a cliffhanger!

We know that Amy did not get the antiviral in time, but she also didn’t accept Fanning’s offer. Amy didn’t die like Elizabeth; however, as it seems like her choice to accept the light has transformed her into something else. Is she now more powerful than Fanning? Will anyone be able to stop the vampires now that they are free? I can’t wait to find out, as we approach the season finale next week. Are you ready?

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Passage” season 1 episode 7: “You Are More Powerful Than You Realize”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching Fox’s The Passage season 1 episode 7, we learned that “there’s some scary stuff coming,” but when will it arrive? Will Amy bring it forth or will her humanity help her see the light? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “You Are Like the Sun,” we learn more about Brad and Lila’s past and find out how they lost their daughter, Eva. Meanwhile, Carter attempts to connect with Amy, Jonas refuses to give up on Elizabeth, and Shauna confronts Fanning. My top 5 moments from The Passage season 1 episode 7 are:

“I’m gonna find them.”

During the episode, Clark makes the decision to go after Brad and Lila to help them. Brad and Lila are separated from Amy, which is definitely not a good sign, as the government is looking to eliminate any possible threats to Project Noah. Clark has previously been an obedient soldier, but he now realizes that Project Noah is a horror show and he is looking to finally do the right thing. We learn that this is not the first time that Clark has saved Brad after learning more about Brad’s past, but it looks like Clark is ready to join the good fight. Welcome to the team!

“We’re waiting on you.”

Fanning has been promising for quite some time that bad things are coming, but it seems like a lot of talking so far. Even Shauna confronts Fanning within his mind, realizing that Fanning has become too preoccupied with Elizabeth joining them. Shauna reminds him that Elizabeth may not choose him and also talks about having a “humanity hangover,” admitting that she does care about Clark, which is important. Previously, I got the impression that Shauna was merely manipulating Clark, but now it seems like her humanity is still present, as her feelings for him are real. We know that there is a connection between Shauna and Clark, but what will happen when the glass wall between them shatters? Will Shauna choose darkness or humanity? We’ll have to wait and see.

“I choose you.”

Elizabeth’s condition continues to get worse, but Jonas does not want to give up on his wife, which is heartbreaking to see. Dr. Sykes does all she can to help, but tries to remind Jonas that Elizabeth has the same symptoms as the other subjects, which is not a good sign. Fanning continues to try and lure Elizabeth over to the darkness, tempting her with life over death, but ultimately Elizabeth chooses Jonas. Elizabeth tells Jonas to shut off the machines, accepting her fate. Jonas doesn’t want to say goodbye, but he respects his wife’s wishes and tells her he loves her over and over again, which brought tears to my eyes. While I didn’t think that Elizabeth would make it, I’m happy that she made the decision to stay away from Fanning’s offer, but this will only fuel Jonas that much more. Jonas is ready to eliminate Fanning, but what will happen when these two finally face off? I personally can’t wait to see it.

“You are more powerful than you realize.”

While Amy worries about Brad’s fate, she receives a mental visit from her buddy, Carter. She recognizes that Carter has changed; reminding us that Amy is very capable of seeing things as they are, even though she is just a child. Rather than tempting Amy with darkness, Carter appears to be warning her and tells her that he is trying to be better, but “hunger makes you do weird things.” Can Carter be trusted here? Initially, I thought so, but it looks like this may have been a different strategy, as Carter tells Amy that she can go anywhere. Amy confides in Carter about her guilt over her mother’s death and she desperately wants to see her again. Amy’s mind projects herself into her old apartment with her mother, as she embraces her and tells her how much she loves her, which is a touching moment. However, the happiness is interrupted when Amy hears a knock at the door and immediately recognizes Fanning on the other side. Amy used her abilities to do something she truly desired, but does that mean that she has now invited the darkness in as well?

“Start over. It is possible.”

We get an important glimpse into Brad and Lila’s past, which is beyond tragic. We see Brad and Lila’s daughter, Eva, who is full of love and life. After her soccer game, Eva explains that she needs markers and Brad makes the decision to go over to the convenience store across the street. The store is held up by a robber and Brad tries to keep him calm, but Eva walks in the door and startles the robber, causing him to turn around and shoot her. We witness one of Brad and Lila’s therapy sessions and Lila tries to talk about getting back to work so that she can help people, but Brad seems distant and unable to even comprehend this as an option. Brad does not identify the suspect in a lineup and ends up taking his life with his own hands. Clark has been Brad’s best friend for a while and he intervenes and covers it up to protect him. Brad’s guilt begins to overwhelm him and Clark is the one to suggest that he joins him at Project Noah so they can make a difference, which is how this all started.

Brad and Lila’s past is so horrific and it’s understandable that they drifted apart, but they are now being thrown together repeatedly, but it is under extremely dangerous circumstances. We have seen several signs of a renewed spark between these two, but I’m not sure if they will get the chance to pursue it. Either way, their connected past is revealing and it’s understandable why Brad feels such a close bond with Amy, as he will do anything to protect her. Lila gently reminds him that Amy is not Eva, but Brad wants to keep her safe no matter what, as he is still holding on to his grief.

Overall, I thought this episode was more of a setup for what’s to come, but there were some truly heartbreaking moments within it. We only have one more episode left before the two hour season finale. There has been so much talk about Fanning’s plan, but I would like to see the vampires escape at this point so that we can witness what they are truly capable of. The vampires have been in a bubble for a while now, so I think it’s about time that they are unleashed onto the world, but will anyone be able to stop them? Stay tuned!

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching Fox’s The Passage season 1 episode 5, I realized that “secrets can make you lonely.” They eat away at you and pull at your inner conscience, refusing to retract their claws. They will consume you if you let them, but so will the vampire in the cell next door. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “How You Gonna Outrun the End of the World?” we learn more about Dr. Lear’s past and Fanning’s connection to his wife, Elizabeth. Meanwhile, Dr. Sykes tries to do what is right, Shauna continues to haunt Clark’s mind, Lila gets into trouble, and Amy displays some new abilities. My top 5 moments from The Passage season 1 episode 5 are:

“We’re getting out of here soon and I’m taking you with me.”

During the episode, Dr. Sykes tells Clark that she knows that he made the conscious decision to save Shauna and asks him if she is still in his head. Clark lies to her and says no, but Shauna is never too far away, as she continues to taunt and tease Clark. She clearly has a fascination with Clark and promises to take him with her, but is she simply using him or is there more to it? Either way, it doesn’t look like Shauna is going to stop appearing in Clark’s mind, but why is he hiding it from others? Does he think it makes him weak or a target? Does a part of him truly want to lose himself with Shauna and embrace the darkness?

“Are you reading my mind?”

Amy begins to show some telepathic abilities, as Brad notices that Amy is reading his mind. Dr. Sykes reminds Amy that “there’s a light” in her, revealing that Amy’s goodness may be enough to balance her new abilities. Could this be the key? Amy’s powers are advancing, but she seems to be holding on to her humanity more than Carter, who was clearly tortured by the vampires in his head. Carter had a guilty conscience, but Amy is an innocent, so could that make the difference? Shauna offered false promises of family to Amy, but Brad reminds Amy that he’s not going anywhere and that he is her family, which is beyond touching. Amy is clearly frightened that she could be transforming into something else, but Brad keeps her staying positive, as they plan a way to escape together.

“No one here wants any part of that.”

Dr. Sykes begins to learn that Project Noah is not just about saving lives, as she comes to the discovery that they plan on weaponizing Amy. Dr. Sykes listens to her own conscience and realizes that she needs to help Amy and Brad escape. Dr. Sykes wants to shut the project down, but it looks like she doesn’t have any support from Clark or anyone else right now. Her best shot is to somehow recruit Dr. Lear, but it looks like Project Noah is run by people who have another agenda. Even though Dr. Sykes may not be able to stop it, she can do what she can to protect Amy, which proves that she is a good person and she has the potential to make a difference.

“We moved on. Clearly you never did.”

Dr. Lear is quarantined during the episode, which had me feeling some Lost nostalgia, especially when the alarm sounded. Dr. Lear is worried about turning into a vampire and even uses this word, which surprises Dr. Sykes. Dr. Lear is warned not to look at Fanning, but he can’t help thinking of their connected past while he is down here. We learn that Dr. Fanning was hopelessly in love with Dr. Lear’s wife, Elizabeth, and they shared a brief encounter together. Dr. Fanning attempts to manipulate Dr. Lear’s mind with these secrets, but Dr. Lear says that he already knew about it and that they moved past it together, recognizing that their marriage is strong and important. Unfortunately, Dr. Fanning doesn’t stop here, as he taps into the janitor’s mind and he ends up paying Elizabeth a visit and injecting the serum into her. Jonas learns that he is not infected, but he tries to make it to Elizabeth, fearing that she may be in trouble. Elizabeth’s mind seems to be restored, as she fully remembers Jonas, but Fanning is already in her mind. Will Dr. Lear be able to save his wife or is she already claimed by Fanning? Either way, this fully motivates Dr. Lear to try and find some kind of cure before the rest of the world is impacted.

“You just did that.”

Didn’t anyone ever teach Dr. Pet that you don’t say things like “what’s the worst that can happen in 30 seconds?” I mean, we’re dealing with unstable vampires here. Anyway, Dr. Pet starts some experiments on Winston, as he tries to telepathically connect to his mind, hoping that he can control the vampires. It initially seems to be working, but Winston later turns the tables on Dr. Pet and tells him to run. Dr. Pet is viciously killed by Winston in front of Dr. Lear’s cell, as he makes a break for it. Amy and Brad are also on the run at the same time and Brad tries to protect Amy from Winston. Amy begins screaming in reaction, which impacts and hurts Winston. Brad is just as surprised as Amy, but they realize that they have to get out of there right away. Amy’s abilities are growing at a fast rate and it seems like her powers are different than the other subjects. What else will Amy be able to do? I honestly can’t wait to find out!

Overall, I thought this was a terrific episode. The connected past between Lear and Fanning reveals that they are going to face off sooner or later. I just wish we had a little bit more time to devote to Lila and Lacey. Lila is potentially abducted at the end of the episode, but I wish we had a few more minutes in each episode so that we can fully understand what is going on here, but I’m sure we will get more information soon. Either way, this show continues to captivate my full attention. There is a struggle of power going on between light and dark, but it’s only a matter of time before one tips the scale. Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Passage” season 1 episode 4: “Show Me The Real You”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching Fox’s The Passage season 1 episode 4, I realized that even if “you know what’s best,” can you really trust yourself when your dreams are being invaded by the overwhelmingly creepy Dr. Fanning? Are the subjects in Project Noah still connected to their own thoughts and desires or are they now merely instruments of destruction? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Whose Blood Is That?” we dive deeper into Anthony Carter’s past, as Fanning continues to bring him over to the dark side. Meanwhile, Shauna pays Amy a visit, Brad tries to do the right thing, and Dr. Lear may have just been contaminated. My top 5 moments from The Passage season 1 episode 4 are:

“I got skills.”

During the episode, Brad and Amy continue to connect, as Brad is determined to protect Amy no matter what. Amy shows one of her first signs of advancing when she and Brad are on the run and she is able to sprint in front of him with no real effort. While we still don’t know exactly how the serum will impact Amy, it’s clear that she is already showing signs, but will she have the same fate as the patients who came before her or is she transforming into something else? Something even more dangerous? We’ll have to wait and see.

“We need to go now.”

We continue to catch up with Lila and Lacey, who are trying to get the story out to anyone who will listen. A reporter actually seems interested in running with the story, but they learn that she was killed later on. Lila is shocked, but Lacey recognizes the potential threat immediately and tells Lila that they need to go now, which suggests that they will be determined a threat to Project Noah as well. Luckily, Lila has Lacey to protect her, although they may need some backup pretty soon.

“Let me help you.”

During this episode, Brad tries to get through to Agent Paulson, who has clearly been impacted by the nightmares. Brad remains calm in the situation even though Agent Paulson has a gun and it seems like he is getting through to him until Clark decides to take him out and eliminate the threat. Clark has already been questioned about letting Shauna live, but he does not even take a second to think about eliminating a fellow agent. Is there any hope for Clark or will he continue to spiral out of control?

“Show me the real you.”

Shauna pays Amy a visit, well a mental visit, and tries to begin manipulating her, but Amy is well aware of what is right and what is wrong. Amy tells Shauna, “I’m nothing like you,” but Shauna is convinced that she is and reminds her that “fighting only makes it harder.” We know that Fanning is very interested in Amy’s presence and that Amy could be the key to stopping this threat, but it looks like she will continue to deal with obstacles along the way. This is a very tough little girl; however, and one should not underestimate her.

“Open up your heart, Anthony.”

During the episode, we get a glimpse into Anthony Carter’s past. We see his past relationship with Rachel and learn that Carter was framed for her death. Carter already feels so much guilt about what happened to her and he loved her very much, but Fanning uses this vulnerability to his advantage. He reminds Anthony that “love without power is misery.” At the end of the episode, Carter is in danger of dying, but ultimately makes his choice and accepts the monster within. Carter attacks someone in the lab and relishes in his first real kill as a vampire, as Dr. Lear watches in horror, just barely scraping by himself. Although Dr. Lear may have a new problem now, as he realizes that he has someone else’s blood on him. Does this mean that Dr. Lear has been contaminated? We’ll have to wait and see.

Overall, the episode did not draw me in the same way that episode 3 did, as it almost felt like a transition or setup for what’s to come. I think that we still have a lot in play here and I am interested to see what happens next. I’m hoping that episode 5 will get us back on track with the fast paced tempo of the previous three episodes, although I do feel that the background story for Anthony was revealing. It’s interesting to see how both Carter and Shauna were betrayed and hurt in the past, allowing Fanning to manipulate their weaknesses into an illusion of power. Fanning may not be powerful on his own as Patient Zero, but it’s clear that he is building an army and they may become unstoppable. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Passage” season 1 episode 3: “You’re a Horror Show”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching Fox’s The Passage season 1 episode 3, Clark reminded us that “nobody gets over anything” and that “they say time helps, but it doesn’t.” However, does that mean we stop trying? Is it possible to save a lost cause? Maybe not, but if we stop trying, do we lose our own humanity in the process? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “That Never Should Have Happened to You,” we get a glimpse into Shauna Babcock’s past, revealing quite a lot about who she was before Project Noah. Meanwhile, Lila tries to get some answers, Lacey’s fate is revealed, Amy gets a new pen pal, and Brad comes face to face with Fanning. My top 5 moments from The Passage season 1 episode 3 are:

“Why do you think she made that choice?”

After Shauna took a bite out of Simmons, the rest of Project Noah begins to discuss this behavior and what it means. They quickly realize that this was personal for Shauna, as Simmons had been tormenting her for a while and she also chose not to harm the squirmy janitor. So was it out of revenge or does Shauna have heightened intelligence? The scientists on the team are eager to find out, but Dr. Lear reminds them that this will not “fix the nightmares problem.” Clark does not want to rehash this; however, as he agrees that the threat should be eliminated and Shauna should be put down. But is Clark able to deal with his own inner turmoil right now?

“You might be the most important little girl in the world.”

After Brad and Amy arrive at Project Noah, Amy is not reacting well to the doctors surrounding her. Dr. Sykes tries a calmer approach and explains that Amy could save so many people and that she promises that nothing will happen to her. But can she really make a promise like that? It seems like Dr. Sykes is having doubts as well like Dr. Lear, but she understands that she can save millions of lives if she succeeds. But can she deal with the consequences of the lives she has ruined? I’m still looking forward to seeing her character explored further and I’m sure we will get there, but it’s clear that Amy has a major role to play here.

“What are we not gonna do? Panic.”

During this episode, Brad promises that he will not leave Amy. The bond between these two continues to grow and it’s really almost like Brad is now Amy’s father. He even looks for monsters in the closet and under the bed, which is adorable, except we know that there are real monsters lurking within the walls of Project Noah. Brad is determined to protect Amy, but is he a match for Fanning? Perhaps he may need a little bit of help here.

“He’s gonna come for her.”

Later on, the janitor warns Brad that Fanning is going to come for Amy. I’m not sure if Fanning recognizes Amy’s potential here or just wants to eliminate a possible new threat, but he is definitely fixated on her presence. Dr. Lear and Brad somewhat join forces, as they try to figure out what Fanning wants. Brad hilariously asks Dr. Lear, “Why don’t you just call them vampires?” This is a valid point for sure. I mean, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…it’s science? Dr. Lear is a scientist at heart and says there is no such thing as vampires, but he does realize that his old friend is very dangerous and communicating on another level with the other subjects and with people inside Project Noah. We know that Fanning wants to be free and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal, but he now has Brad in his way. At the end of the episode, Fanning finally appears in Brad’s dream and warns him to stay out of his way, but will Brad listen?

“Is it gonna hurt? Not one bit…”

During the episode, we get an important glimpse into Shauna Babcock’s past. We know that she connected with Clark when she was brought in and he gave her some false promises, which explains his obsession with her and why she may be invading his dreams. We also get to dive deeper into Shauna’s past before all of this and learn that she had a hard life and was just trying to leave it all behind so that she could start over as a special effects make-up artist. Shauna actually seemed to have some talent and was saving money so that she could start her dream. However, her mother’s husband had been sexually abusing her for quite some time and it’s clear that Shauna was broken from this. Later on, Shauna was horrified when she found out that her mother knew the whole time and she could not control her anger, as she unleashed it on both her mother and step-father. Shauna’s past is revealing and heartbreaking, but it also explains a lot about her current situation now. Shauna is the first subject to show such advanced intelligence and perhaps it is because she has always been trying to find something else within her: a strength that cannot be smothered by others. Later on, Clark is unable to go through with killing her. Is it because he still cares about her or does he feel directly responsible for her current situation? Either way, Shauna Babcock has not been eliminated just yet.

Overall, this was my favorite episode so far. There are very few shows that can seamlessly intertwine character flashbacks with the plot so well. Shows like Lost and Orange Is the New Black come to mind here. The Passage has just achieved this as well for me. These flashbacks connect you more to the characters, but it isn’t forced. It elevates the show to something else…something meaningful and powerful, bringing you in that much more. I am extremely impressed with The Passage so far and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Passage” season 1 episode 2: “Maybe She’s a Good Girl After All…”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching Fox’s The Passage season 1 episode 2, I realized that changing the world is not always for the best. Sure, you may want to make a difference, but what happens when you end up changing the world for the worst? Is there any chance to still make it right? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “You Owe Me a Unicorn,” we continue to follow Agent Brad Wolgast and Amy Bellafonte, as they try to find a safe place to lay low. Meanwhile, we get a glimpse into Dr. Lear’s past, Carter begins to have some beyond vivid dreams, and Shauna Babcock proves to be far from a good girl. My top 5 moments from The Passage season 1 episode 2 are:

“You get the girl safe and I’ll get the story out.”

So fans of Justin Cronin’s book series were initially disappointed that Lacey was not in the show and so was I. Fear not; however, as Lacey is in this episode. We learn that Lacey had Brad as a student in the navy. She is tough and she tells it as it is. Lacey agrees to help Brad and Amy, but also feels like she has a lot to atone for as well. Lacey wants to help get the story out, recognizing that saving Amy is only the first step here, as Project Noah will continue to operate unless they do something. In the book, Lacey is the one to care for Amy before Brad comes along, but I am not sure if the series is going to explore anything more with her character. Brad assumes that Lacey is dead and she may be, but we will have to wait and see.

“Your ex-wife told me to.”

After Brad passes out on the side of the road, Amy panics and calls his ex-wife, Lila, who is a doctor. Lila walks Amy through what to do, but Brad is not pleased and takes out his frustration on the cell phone, worrying that the agents will be able to track them down now. Later on, Lila ends up at Lacey’s place and shares a kiss with Brad, revealing that there are still lingering feelings here between them both. While I’m not sure if this is going to be explored any further, it’s clear that Lila has not given up on Brad just yet.

“You already changed the world. You just have to wait and see how.”

During this episode, we get a glimpse into Dr. Lear’s past and learn that he was trying to find a cure for his wife, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Lear worked with Dr. Fanning on this, but they were both ready to throw some ethics out the window, but was this really the right call? What would you do for the one you love? While Dr. Fanning seemed perfectly fine dismissing his own ethics, it’s clear that Dr. Lear has always been somewhat conflicted. As he begins injecting Carter with the serum, you can tell that he is having second thoughts about everything. Carter begins to have some vivid dreams, which involve Fanning and Babcock seducing him to the dark side almost. Are they just dreams, however? Later on, Carter gives Dr. Lear a message from Fanning, telling him that he has already changed the world. While it may be too late for some, is it possible that Dr. Lear can redeem himself and put a stop to these experiments before it’s too late?

“Maybe she’s a good girl after all…”

Or maybe you shouldn’t be taunting the prisoner who is clearly transforming into something other than human. I’m never a fan of anyone calling someone a bitch, but this guard continues to push and push, until Shauna Babcock decides that she has heard enough and sinks her teeth into him. Shauna Babcock is proving to be quite dangerous, but what happens when she finally gets out of her cage?

“You don’t leave me and I don’t leave you.”

During the episode, we continue to witness the heartwarming bond between Brad and Amy. Amy is not afraid to speak her mind to Brad, but it’s clear that they both need each other. Brad even comments to Lila that Amy is a tomboy just like his daughter, Eva, and it’s clear that he believes he is meant to save her. Later in the episode, they are surrounded and Brad decides to turn himself in. Only Amy is not able to abandon him and stands right by his side, which is courageous and touching. Overall, I thought that the episode delivered. There was an even better balance between what’s going on at Project Noah and what’s happening with Brad and Amy, where the transitions didn’t feel forced. I was engaged the entire episode and I also think that the back story of Dr. Lear was necessary and important. I am thoroughly looking forward to episode 3 and I absolutely recommend this series to everyone. Stay tuned!

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 9, we were reminded that “in unity there is strength,” but is that truly enough to handle all of the evil and corruption going on in our favorite bubble gum pop town? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Four: No Exit,” Archie is attacked by a bear and begins to have some vivid dreams that could be quite meaningful. Meanwhile, Veronica plays “deal or no deal” with her father, and Betty realizes that being a queen is actually hard work. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 9 mid-season premiere are:

“I’m their Griffin Queen.”

Well sure, maybe you are Betty, but are you really able to continue housing all of these girls you valiantly rescued from the Sisters of Quiet Mercy? Betty quickly begins to realize that this is a very difficult task. It’s one thing to swoop in for a rescue, but what comes next is always that much more challenging. Betty looks for help from some of the more reliable parents in town and it seems like she may have a temporary solution, but it’s only a matter of time before her reign may end. Either way, we support you, Betty!

“We’ll go, but we’re keeping our jackets.”

So this episode finally gave our favorite couple, Cheryl and Toni, some much needed screen time. While Choni is told to “break it up” at school, they turn on the heat and decide to break into Hiram Lodge’s residence to leave their mark…so to speak. The plan backfires when Jughead asks them to return the valuable egg they stole and they are asked to turn in their jackets and go. Cheryl doesn’t go quietly; however, as she reminds Jughead that Fangs should also be punished for his actions. While Cheryl and Toni exit begrudgingly from the Serpents, Cheryl is not about to lose her latest fashion statement and reminds Jughead that they will be keeping their jackets. Although I’m not sure that Cheryl and Toni will stay gone for long, it makes me wonder if Jughead is truly ready to be a leader and handle all that comes with it?

“You are not the villain you think you are.”

Archie is still off handling his own inner demons and is brutally attacked by a bear. While Archie calls for help, he begins hallucinating or having vivid dreams that had me wondering if I was hallucinating along with him. While it’s clear that Archie is focusing on his enemy, Hiram Lodge, perhaps the bigger villain is his own guilt. I have to say that I was right there with dream Fred Andrews when he told Archie to just come home already. Although, that may be a little bit difficult for our main character right now.

“Has anyone ever told you, you’re a bad-ass?”

During the episode, Veronica continues to struggle to maintain power over her father, as he stirs up some more trouble. Hiram is all about making Faustian deals, but is he able to truly tame his daughter? Veronica ends up securing protection from the Serpents, which seems like a great solution, but it’s only a matter of time before Hiram comes up with a new plan. Will Veronica be ready? Perhaps, but it seems like her attention has drifted elsewhere, as Veggie fans celebrated when she and Reggie shared their first kiss. Is Veronica truly ready to move on from Archie, however?

“We go to join thee.”

At the end of the episode, we are left with a lot of setup for what’s to come. Alice sends the girls from Sisters of Quiet Mercy off to the farm and informs Betty that she only missed Edgar by “like five minutes,” but it looks like the second half of the season will finally give us some concrete answers about the farm. Jughead also decides to send Fangs under cover, which may be more than he is able to handle, but it looks like he is up for the challenge. The Sisters of Quiet Mercy are bailed out and leave behind the cryptic message: “We go to join thee,” which Betty eventually figures out, as the Sisters go to join their “Gargoyle King” with their sacrifice. Was this by choice or was someone else pulling the strings here to keep them quiet forever? Finally, Archie is non-responsive when help arrives, which begs the question: is Riverdale really about to kill off the main character of the show? This is not the first time that Archie has faced a life or death situation, but something tells me that he’s going to be all right. Overall, I was slightly disappointed with the episode, as it felt more like a filler or transition one. It did provide us with a lot of setup for what’s to come, but I would like to see more content highlighted, especially since one of the teaser trailers suggested that Betty is going to be reunited with her father, Hal, very soon.
