My Ship of the week ending 5/4/19 on TV goes to…

Veronica Lodge and Archie Andrews on Riverdale, better known as Varchie! I was beyond heartbroken when these two split up, as it seemed like fate continued to defy them. Veronica and Archie sort of remind me of Romeo and Juliet. They have a beautiful and passionate love, but some things are way beyond their control. But can they learn from their past mistakes? Varchie’s biggest problem was Veronica’s father, Hiram Lodge, and it looks like the feud between Archie and Hiram is not even close to being over. I’m not sure that challenging him to a boxing match will solve all their problems, but it will be interesting to see if Varchie can survive this.

I have been seeing some sparks flying between Veronica and Archie for quite some time now and Josie’s departure has only brought them even closer together. Josie recognized that her and Archie were not end game, but there is something really epic about Varchie. Archie asks Veronica to the prom as friends, but their slow dance suggested that their love is not over just yet. I’ve been rooting for these two to get back together for quite some time, but let’s hope that they are able to recognize what is truly important.

What’s next for Varchie? We’ll have to stay tuned to find out, but we will have to see if they are able to overcome the family drama and prioritize their relationship. Veronica has been there for Archie every step of the way, but he also broke her heart and she may need some time to heal. As long as Archie stops blaming himself for literally everything, perhaps he can see that he does deserve happiness with Veronica. I can’t wait to see what happens next for these two!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 19: “Fear the Reaper”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 19, I realized that keeping secrets can be a dangerous game on its own. However, when you also mix in playing G&G, things are going to get crazy. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Fifty-Four: Fear the Reaper,” Jughead teams up with FP and Gladys to try and rescue Jellybean. Meanwhile, Betty checks up on Evelyn, Archie contemplates giving up boxing, and Josie makes a big decision. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 19 are:

“We’re not end game.”

During the episode, Josie is excited that her father has come to town and she really begins to contemplate her own future. Josie says, “I want to broaden my musical horizons,” but it looks like she has been searching for something of her own for a while. After giving a dazzling performance, Josie’s father agrees to let her accompany him on tour and it looks like she could be heading off to NYC.

Josie tells Archie that they are not end game and that’s OK, but it looks like this is the end for Archosie. Josie’s return to Riverdale is uncertain and it probably has something to do with her joining another Archie Comic spin-off series called, “Katy Keene,” which will also star Lucy Hale from Pretty Little Liars. While we don’t know when or if the series will get picked up, it looks like Josie has the opportunity to really step into the spotlight now and I can’t wait to see what she does next!

“Check my file…I think I just might.”

I love when Betty gets her Nancy Drew on and this episode was no exception. Betty may not have found out much about Edgar, but she does discover a lot of interesting information on Evelyn. We discover that Evelyn has been pretending to be a seventeen-year-old Junior for over a decade at numerous schools and that she is actually 26. If that’s not shocking enough for you, we also learn that she is not Edgar’s daughter, she’s his wife. Still with me? Betty is concerned because her mother is about to marry Edgar and he also wants to adopt Polly’s twins.

Betty goes to Hal for help and he suggests someone who is “uniquely motivated” to help her, leading her to Penelope Blossom. However, it seems like Penelope is more interested in taking the boy twin and naming him Jason Junior, which doesn’t help Betty all that much. As the secrets begin to unravel, it’s interesting to see how much of an impact Evelyn can have on the teenagers around her. But what will happen when everyone finds out that she has been lying? Are the members of the Farm too far gone or is there anything that Betty can do?

“Still wanna call me the reaper?”

After the dramatic boxing match in last week’s episode, Randy is pronounced dead and the guilt immediately begins to overwhelm Archie. Fred gives Archie a heartwarming talk and tells him that he’s innocent and I just recently learned that this was actually Luke Perry’s final scene, which makes this talk that much more meaningful. This is not the first time that Archie has blamed himself, but he is far from a reaper. Archie thinks about giving up boxing, but ultimately decides to use his prize money to give to Randy’s family, which is a very generous gesture.

Elio continued to get on my nerves, pretending that he didn’t juice Randy, but it’s all starting to make sense, as we see later in the episode that he is working for Hiram Lodge. It was only a matter of time before this “truce” came crashing down between Hiram and Archie. Now that Josie is making her exit, there is an even greater potential for a reunion between Archie and Veronica, but will that sever this truce for good? Hiram is very dangerous and a master manipulator, but there’s something about Archie that brings out the worst in him and it looks like this is only going to escalate further.

“Join us.”

After getting nowhere with Penelope, Betty reaches out to Toni, hoping that she can sneak her into the Farm so that she can get the other twin out of there safely. Only Toni has now crossed over to the other side. Et tu, Toni? Toni talks about how she always wanted a family and has now found one with the Farm and leads Betty right to the heart of it. Was Toni brainwashed or is something else going on here? I find it hard to believe that she was so against the Farm previously and now has become one of its puppets.

Betty asks the Farm why they are all smiling and her mother reveals that she already knows that Edgar is married to Evelyn, which makes their union that much creepier. Betty seems like she is falling under the thrall of the Farm for a moment, but she snaps out of it. Betty remembers seeing the babies thrown into the fire before she had a seizure earlier in the season and she makes a run for it. Even though we are learning a lot more about the Farm, there are still so many unanswered questions and I hope we get to the bottom of it before the end of the season, as we only have three episodes left!

“If we play and we win, we can get Jellybean back.”

Jughead has his own family drama to deal with in this jam-packed episode, as he agrees to play the game under creepy Kurtz’s orders. And here are our players:

Deadeye: FP

Hellcaster: Jughead

The Alchemist: Gladys

In the first round, secrets are out and FP learns what Gladys has been up to. It was only a matter of time before he found out, but they need to put this aside to try and save Jellybean. FP says that there will be a reckoning, which reminds us that he will definitely circle back to this anger, however. The next task involves the Jones family robbing Pop’s Diner, which ends with FP getting shot. In the next task, we see a Cyclops card and in walks Penny Peabody, who is definitely looking for some revenge. Gladys and her fight, channeling their inner Elektra and Gladys is victorious, but definitely needs to go to the hospital as well, which means that everything is now up to our hero, Jughead.

Jughead is presented with two doors and is told to choose, as Kurtz mentions “The Lady, or the tiger,” which is a short story written by Frank R. Stockton. The story is set in an ancient country and the king is put through a set of trials, much like Jughead. He ultimately has to choose between two doorways: one leading to the princess and one leading to death. Jughead is faced with this same dilemma and ends up being trapped behind the door, as Kurtz gives the order to eliminate the princess. Jughead is able to break free and saves the day, as I breathed a sigh of relief. Yay Jughead!

Even though Jughead saves the day for now, we are still left with several unopened doors of our own. Jughead came face to face with the Gargoyle King, but he didn’t have time to stay, as he rushed off to make sure that Jellybean was all right. Gladys says that she is leaving town, but Jellybean will be staying behind, but what does this mean for the drug trade in Riverdale?

Also, Hiram is ready to step out of the shadows and it’s been quite a while since we have seen Hermione, which continues to stir my own suspicions. Plus, we learn that while Hal was being transferred to Hiram’s new prison, there was an accident and no survivors. Betty asked Hiram to transfer her father to his prison, but can you ever really make a deal with the devil? Is Hal really dead or have we just released the former Black Hood back into society? I’m not sure, but I can’t wait to find out. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 17: “I Was Wondering When We’d Finally Meet”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 17, Edgar Evernever reminded us that “memories are often painful, but they don’t have to be. They can be a path to revival.” But when one starts manipulating memories and playing on the weaknesses of others, toying with these memories can become extremely dangerous. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Fifty-Two: The Master,” Jughead continues to try and stop his mother and the drug trade in his town with the help of Archie and some friends. Meanwhile, Veronica takes a page out of her father’s manipulation playbook and Betty recruits Cheryl to help her listen in on the Farm. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 17 are:

“This ship has sailed.”

Hermione begins to panic when she realizes that she will lose Hiram’s protection if it is publicly known that they are getting a divorce. Hermione explains to Veronica that being a mob boss’s wife is extremely dangerous, but Veronica does remind her mother that she did try to kill her husband…twice. Veronica does not give up on her family and suggests therapy as an option, but Hiram tells her “this ship has sailed.” Meanwhile, Hermione receives some dead fish, implying a threat on her life. Veronica approaches her father for a compromise. Hiram agrees and has their marriage annulled, but keeps Hermione in the public’s eye to keep her safe. However, Hiram is no fool, as he recognizes that Veronica is the one who sent the fish to her mother. Veronica explains that she had to protect her, but no one said it would be easy to outplay the master manipulator, Hiram Lodge.

“I need your help.”

During the episode, Archie gets a phone call from Mad Dog, who lets him know that he is in danger of being transferred over to Hiram’s new private prison. Archie pulls out all the stops with Veronica’s help and approaches the Governor, asking for a pardon for his friends. The plan works successfully, as the Governor is not looking to have his reputation threatened and Archie gives Mad Dog and the others a place to stay at the gym. Whenever something is going right, Elio suddenly appears, however. Elio offers the guys a chance to fight for money for him and Mad Dog ends up deciding to take his business offer at the end of the episode. Archie warns his friend that he cannot trust Elio, but Mad Dog is determined to do whatever is necessary to help his family. Let’s just hope that he doesn’t wind up in too much trouble.

“This is between me and you.”

Jughead continues to clash with his mother, Gladys, in this episode and he tells her, “Oh I’m not gonna stop until you are out of Riverdale.” Gladys is up for the challenge and reminds Jughead not to cross her. Seriously Jughead, look out for Mommie Dearest, who doesn’t play by the rules. After Jughead tries to intervene more with the drug trade, he messes up his father’s drug bust, which angers FP, but Jughead is not ready to stop. Jughead goes after a major drug operation with the help of Archie and Mad Dog, but ends up getting thrown out a window by that nut job, Kurtz. Luckily, Jughead is all right, but is he in over his head? I’m not sure, but we know that Gladys is not one to be messed with. Will she really push her own son out of the way to further her business though? We’ll have to see how this plays out.

“I’m in, cousin.”

After taking a tour of the Farm, Betty realizes that she will not get too far. There are locked doors and Evelyn leading the interviews, which makes it difficult for Betty to get any real answers. Betty recognizes that Evelyn has some kind of interest in Cheryl and asks for Cheryl’s help. I love the tag team between Betty and Cheryl, as Cheryl goes undercover and puts her acting skills to the test. Edgar meets with Cheryl and talks about how she has already been baptized and reborn in fire based on some of her past experiences, but he takes advantage of her love and grief over her brother, Jason. Before long, Cheryl is done being Betty’s mole and even comments that Edgar is a “yummy snack,” which is absolutely hilarious, but it looks like Cheryl has just joined the Farm. Can Betty help her before it’s too late? Does Edgar have a special interest in Cheryl because of her connections?

“I was wondering when we’d finally meet.”

Betty recognizes that she is on her own and decides to break into the locked door with her trusty bobby pin while Cheryl is getting inducted into the Farm. Betty finds the tapes from her family and takes them to try and get some information, but Cheryl is the one to reveal the biggest mystery of all. Cheryl reveals to Betty that Edgar took her to a room and says that Jason was in the room with her. She explains that she talked to him in the flesh and that the Farm somehow gave her back her brother. Things start to add up for Betty, as she approaches her mother and realizes that Alice has been seeing her son, Charles, in this same way. Edgar finally agrees to meet Betty and the showdown we have all been waiting for has just begun. Betty is not afraid of Edgar; however, and is ready for the challenge. Edgar asks her what she would like to know and Betty simply says, “Everything.”

It looks like we have a lot more to find out, but what is the rational explanation behind Cheryl and Alice seeing their dead relatives? Is Edgar using mind control or is there something else going on here? At the end of the episode, we also get a new quest card that reads, “Defang a Wolf cub.” FP finds another sacrifice in the woods, which reminds us that the Gargoyle King is not finished at all. What does this new quest mean and is there any real connection between the Gargoyle King and the Farm? Also, Hiram’s new prison is now up and running so what does that mean for the town? New episodes return April 17^th. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 10: “The Stranger”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 10, I learned that sometimes you just have to keep fighting. But what happens when you lose sight of who you are in the process? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Five: The Stranger,” we learn the fate of Archie Andrews. Meanwhile, the SATs are approaching, Fangs gets invited to join the inner circle, and Betty finally pays her father a visit. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 10 are:

“I will kill you…”

Fred Andrews steps up and channels some Dylan McKay, as he threatens Hiram Lodge. Hiram has been pushing and pushing and Fred reminds him that he will not hesitate to kill him if he goes after his son again. While Fred typically takes the high road, it’s clear that he has been pushed over the edge, but will his need for revenge get him into trouble? Either way, it was great to see someone stand up to Hiram. Hiram may be a master manipulator, but I have a feeling that Fred could easily take him in a fair fight.

“You are not cornering me into joining your cult.”

During the episode, Betty quickly learns that her mother, Alice, has given away all her money to the Farm. When Betty questions her mother about this, Alice explains that the account has not been “drained, just transferred.” Betty is beyond outraged and learns that Alice forged her father’s signature to make the transaction, which means that Betty will have to pay her father a visit after all. While there has been quite a lot of set up going on for the Farm, I am really looking forward to seeing that story-line finally develop. I want to know more about Edgar, their end game, and how they have managed to completely brainwash Alice.

“It’s over, isn’t it?”

After Archie returns home with quite a few scars inside and out, Veronica is beyond happy to see him. It seems like these two are going to make it after all, but where does Reggie fit into this equation? Reggie is willing to take the high road and allow Veronica and Archie to head off into the sunset together, but he unintentionally tells Archie what happened between them. After Hiram is shot and recovering from surgery, Veronica and Archie have a talk and come to the conclusion that their relationship is over. Is this really the end of Varchie for good? We’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like Reggie has been eagerly waiting in the wings so Veggie fans can rejoice for now.

“To keep me coming back to you…”

So we finally get the meeting we have been waiting for, as Betty confronts her father, Hal. Hal continues to play mind games and even claims that he was the Gargoyle King in the past and that he tried to take down the entire Midnight Club. After some Nancy Drew investigating, Betty learns that Penelope Blossom has been posing as her mother to go visit Hal and has provided him with this Intel. Betty soon realizes that Hal did this intentionally to keep Betty coming back to him. Even though Hal is sick and twisted and a little bit too obsessed with punishing sinners, he does hold on to his connection to Betty. Hal signs the affidavit for Betty, but it looks like this is a potential new beginning for these two. Even though Betty swears that she will not return, she has a void at home now that Alice has completely given herself over to the Farm. Betty continues to confide in her father, but will this eventually lead to her own darkness returning? We’ll have to wait and see.

“You’re looking at the new law in Riverdale.”

During the episode, it seems like everyone is on board to claim that he or she is the true Gargoyle King. After Hal’s false confession, it seems like Tall Boy is the actual Gargoyle King, but my money is still on Hermione Lodge. During the episode, Hiram decides that he wants Claudius Blossom to step up as the new sheriff, but Hermione is not happy with this decision. Tall Boy and Claudius both don’t make it through the episode and even Hiram is shot and left for dead. Only it’s not that easy to kill a cockroach like Hiram, as he manages to pull through surgery. At the end of the episode, Hermione meets up with FP and tells him that it’s time. There’s a new sheriff in town and it’s FP Jones. It doesn’t seem like being the sheriff requires any type of credentials here, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to have FP leading the way. However, Hermione has been strategically pulling several strings here, which is hard to ignore. I have been saying from the start that I believe Hermione is the Gargoyle King, but perhaps she is not in it alone. Either way, I think that this episode redeemed itself from the unnecessary fluff last week and I’m back on board. However, let’s not forget about our girls, Cheryl and Toni. Everyone deserves some screen time here in Riverdale. Stay tuned!

When Kallie Bennett, a jaded teenage girl plagued by her alcoholic mother and her peers molded out of sheer bubble gum perfection, chases after Alice in Wonderland herself, she ends up lost in her own version of Wonderland, which forces her to face her utmost fears and introduces her to familiar characters with a dark twist. Among these characters is Ches, a gorgeous vampire with a conflicted conscience, who becomes Kallie’s guide and blossoming love interest. She also crosses paths with Queen Hartley, a manipulative witch who has the power to strip away one’s memories and imagination, which brings a bone chilling new meaning to “off with their heads.” In The Search for Alice, Kallie starts to realize that her Wonderland is just as frightening as her own reality and that she cannot always run away from her problems. She must figure out a way to defeat Queen Hartley and return home before it is too late, but she soon learns that escaping Wonderland means leaving Ches behind forever.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 9: “No Exit”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 9, we were reminded that “in unity there is strength,” but is that truly enough to handle all of the evil and corruption going on in our favorite bubble gum pop town? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Four: No Exit,” Archie is attacked by a bear and begins to have some vivid dreams that could be quite meaningful. Meanwhile, Veronica plays “deal or no deal” with her father, and Betty realizes that being a queen is actually hard work. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 9 mid-season premiere are:

“I’m their Griffin Queen.”

Well sure, maybe you are Betty, but are you really able to continue housing all of these girls you valiantly rescued from the Sisters of Quiet Mercy? Betty quickly begins to realize that this is a very difficult task. It’s one thing to swoop in for a rescue, but what comes next is always that much more challenging. Betty looks for help from some of the more reliable parents in town and it seems like she may have a temporary solution, but it’s only a matter of time before her reign may end. Either way, we support you, Betty!

“We’ll go, but we’re keeping our jackets.”

So this episode finally gave our favorite couple, Cheryl and Toni, some much needed screen time. While Choni is told to “break it up” at school, they turn on the heat and decide to break into Hiram Lodge’s residence to leave their mark…so to speak. The plan backfires when Jughead asks them to return the valuable egg they stole and they are asked to turn in their jackets and go. Cheryl doesn’t go quietly; however, as she reminds Jughead that Fangs should also be punished for his actions. While Cheryl and Toni exit begrudgingly from the Serpents, Cheryl is not about to lose her latest fashion statement and reminds Jughead that they will be keeping their jackets. Although I’m not sure that Cheryl and Toni will stay gone for long, it makes me wonder if Jughead is truly ready to be a leader and handle all that comes with it?

“You are not the villain you think you are.”

Archie is still off handling his own inner demons and is brutally attacked by a bear. While Archie calls for help, he begins hallucinating or having vivid dreams that had me wondering if I was hallucinating along with him. While it’s clear that Archie is focusing on his enemy, Hiram Lodge, perhaps the bigger villain is his own guilt. I have to say that I was right there with dream Fred Andrews when he told Archie to just come home already. Although, that may be a little bit difficult for our main character right now.

“Has anyone ever told you, you’re a bad-ass?”

During the episode, Veronica continues to struggle to maintain power over her father, as he stirs up some more trouble. Hiram is all about making Faustian deals, but is he able to truly tame his daughter? Veronica ends up securing protection from the Serpents, which seems like a great solution, but it’s only a matter of time before Hiram comes up with a new plan. Will Veronica be ready? Perhaps, but it seems like her attention has drifted elsewhere, as Veggie fans celebrated when she and Reggie shared their first kiss. Is Veronica truly ready to move on from Archie, however?

“We go to join thee.”

At the end of the episode, we are left with a lot of setup for what’s to come. Alice sends the girls from Sisters of Quiet Mercy off to the farm and informs Betty that she only missed Edgar by “like five minutes,” but it looks like the second half of the season will finally give us some concrete answers about the farm. Jughead also decides to send Fangs under cover, which may be more than he is able to handle, but it looks like he is up for the challenge. The Sisters of Quiet Mercy are bailed out and leave behind the cryptic message: “We go to join thee,” which Betty eventually figures out, as the Sisters go to join their “Gargoyle King” with their sacrifice. Was this by choice or was someone else pulling the strings here to keep them quiet forever? Finally, Archie is non-responsive when help arrives, which begs the question: is Riverdale really about to kill off the main character of the show? This is not the first time that Archie has faced a life or death situation, but something tells me that he’s going to be all right. Overall, I was slightly disappointed with the episode, as it felt more like a filler or transition one. It did provide us with a lot of setup for what’s to come, but I would like to see more content highlighted, especially since one of the teaser trailers suggested that Betty is going to be reunited with her father, Hal, very soon. Stay tuned!

Happy Wednesday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 8, we were reminded that “there’s no such thing as normal” in our favorite mysterious town. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In tonight’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Three: Outbreak,” Archie and Jughead are reunited with Jughead’s mother and sister. Meanwhile, there is a mass seizure at school and Cheryl finally gets some well deserved screen time, reminding us that no one messes with her “TT.” My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 8 mid-season finale are:

“You can stay here for as long as you like…even permanently.”

In the beginning of the episode, the Vixens all collapse in the school hallway with a mass seizure, only Cheryl is not impacted. Cheryl is horrified by this and rushes to Toni’s side, as she calls for help. It looks like everyone will be OK, but this leads to Cheryl taking care of her “TT” and giving her some much needed bed rest. Cheryl offers to let Toni stay with her indefinitely, which is a sweet and romantic gesture. While we still only got about less than five minutes of screen time for our favorite couple, it was sweet to see Cheryl care for Toni in this way. Toni seems more than willing to move in, as long as she is the “big spoon,” which seems like a fair compromise. But why was Cheryl immune to the mass seizure? Her mother later has a seizure as well, which makes me wonder what her connection is, but I still don’t have much to go on here.

“They tried to banish me to New York.”

After Veronica has a seizure, she is brought home and her mother and father suggest that she goes off to New York, but Veronica is not about to leave Riverdale anytime soon. Veronica continues to challenge her parents and recruits Reggie to find out some information about “fizzle rocks.” Hiram clearly wants Veronica on his side and is impressed by her, but Veronica continues to remain strong, even though Archie has left her. However, it looks like Veggie fans will get an opportunity to see a steamy moment between these two, as new episodes in January could lead to a new potential romance for Veronica and Reggie. But what will Archie have to say about this?

“Drop the butter knife, bitch.”

Jughead and Archie meet up with Jughead’s mother, Gladys Jones, and his sister, Jellybean. His family is very excited to see him and his mother is actually pretty hilarious, as she initially thinks that Archie and Jughead are together romantically and they kindly correct her, informing her that it’s really more of a “bromance.” Later on, Penny shows up to stir up some trouble, but Jellybean is not about to let her threaten her family, as she puts her slingshot skills to the test. Gladys then takes a turn and suggests that she and Penny have some quality “girl time” together, as she gets some information about Hiram’s plan. I have to say that Jughead’s family is pretty bad-ass, but Gladys makes the right call when she has FP and Fred show up. Archie continues to go on his journey alone, but he knows that his father is there for him no matter what. I’m just wondering when Archie will decide to return home. It looks like Riverdale is in desperate need of his help right now.

“You messed with my squad, which means you messed with me.”

Cheryl and Veronica team up and prove that they are not scared of the adults in Riverdale at all. While Veronica openly challenges her father, Cheryl is on board to torture her mother into a confession by dumping buckets of maple syrup on her. Penelope eventually gives in and talks about Hiram’s plan to turn Riverdale into his own “kingdom” or “Vice City.” Cheryl is a queen and is not about to let anyone threaten the Vixens or her beloved “TT.” Seriously, you don’t want to get on Cheryl’s bad side.

“Follow me, your Griffin Queen.”

During the episode, we learn that Betty has been playing the part all too well at the Sisters of Quiet Mercy, which Cheryl hilariously refers to as “the hellmouth of Riverdale.” Betty takes her “candy,” but later vomits to ensure that she has a clear mind. Betty recognizes that the Gargoyle King hallucinations are coming from the drugs and tries to recruit Ethel. After locking Ethel up in the Gargoyle King’s chambers, Ethel comes down from her high and realizes that she is merely standing before a statue of a gargoyle. Ethel agrees to help Betty and they capture Sister Woodhouse, looking to finally get some concrete answers. Sister Woodhouse reveals that the game was created within their walls, but that it never should have been released into the world. So who released the game? Betty continues her plan by playing the part of the “Griffin Queen” to help everyone escape from the Sisters of Quiet Mercy, but do they have anywhere to go now?

The town of Riverdale is now under quarantine, which means that no one can leave and no one can get back in. At the end of the episode, Hiram is pleased and cheers to the King, revealing that he is also seeing the Gargoyle King. So who is the actual Gargoyle King? Whoever he or she is, they are calling the shots. Also, Betty pointed out that the Gargoyle King is a hallucination, but we know that Alice also saw him when she was not on fizzle rocks like the rest of the Midnight club, so does this have any significance? Alice is caught up with the farm and we still have a lot to learn about them as well. Overall, it was a jam-packed mid-season finale and I am looking forward to new episodes returning January 16^th. Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 7: “The Man in Black”

Happy Wednesday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 7, we may know who the Man in Black is, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the Gargoyle King. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In tonight’s episode, “Chapter Forty-Two: The Man in Black,” Archie and Jughead try to stay low in a strange town, but quickly realize that they are far from safe. Meanwhile, Veronica shows off her gambling skills and Betty refuses to abandon her investigation, as she uncovers quite a lot of connections at the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 7 are:

“When you’re trying to survive, it’s easy to lose sight of who you are.”

In the beginning of the episode, we catch up with Archie and Jughead, who are still looking for a safe place away from Hiram Lodge. They come across a farm in the ghost-like town of Athens and are taken in by Laurie Lake and her sister. While Archie tries to make himself useful at the farm, Jughead heads into town and detects symbols from the “Griffins and Gargoyles” game on some of the buildings. When he asks about it, he learns that the drug, “fizzle rocks,” is here and that there is a man in black who calls the shots. The town is oddly quiet and Jughead even comments that it is a little bit too “American Gothic” for him, but we learn that all of the men are working at the prison. Jughead warns Archie not to get distracted, but Archie and Laurie do share a kiss. Archie stops it from going any further; however, as he explains that he has a girl waiting for him back home. Laurie seems harmless enough…until she hits Archie over the head with a frying pan and ties him up. See Archie, just another reason why you should head on home to Veronica.

“Who’s the Man in Black?”

We quickly learn that the “Man in Black” is Hiram Lodge and that the men in town are working for him, distributing fizzle rocks. Hiram is more than disappointed when Archie gets away with Jughead, but what was Hiram really going to do here? Archie desperately wanted to stay and fight Hiram and “end this nightmare once and for all,” but Jughead talks some sense into him, recognizing that they are under prepared and no match for Hiram Lodge right now. We know that Hiram is capable of murder, but would he really eliminate Archie forever? It looks like Jughead and Archie will continue their brotherly adventure together, as they will be reunited with Jughead’s mother and sister in next week’s mid-season finale.

“Veronica Lodge is not about to go quietly into the night.”

Veronica makes the decision to leave home, even though both her mother and father try to stop her. Veronica sleeps at La Bonne Nuit and decides to spend her time figuring out how to make some real money. She enlists the help of Elio and decides to have a casino night, which seems like a great idea, but Hiram recognizes the potential danger here. Veronica even takes out a second mortgage on Pop’s Diner, which is extremely risky. During the casino night, Elio is having an unrealistic streak of luck and hasn’t lost yet, which would leave Veronica in the red. Veronica refuses to “go quietly into the night” and challenges Elio to a high stakes game of Black Jack, where the winner gets the deed to Pop’s Diner and La Bonne Nuit. I have to say that I was extremely nervous here, but Veronica ends up winning, as she sends Elio packing. We later find out that Veronica “scammed the scammer,” as Reggie so eloquently put it, but does this mean that Hiram has won back her affection? Hiram did warn Veronica and got her in touch with a dealer she could trust, but we know that he has an ulterior motive here. Later on, Pop warns Veronica and tells her, “Don’t be like your father.” He explains that Sheriff Minetta was found murdered and that the body was decapitated and his hands were sawed off. You really do not want to get on Hiram Lodge’s bad side.

“Make them think that you’re sane.”

During the episode, we also get to catch up with poor Betty, who is still at the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. Betty’s narration is beyond hilarious, as she desperately tries to stay sane so that she can continue on with her investigation. Fizzle rocks pop up here as well and the patients are receiving the drug as their reward or “candy,” as Sister Woodhouse said in a beyond creepy tone. Betty observes a lot at the Sisters of Quiet Mercy and notices that both Claudius Blossom and Hiram Lodge show up, but what is the connection? We know that Hiram Lodge is the one who initially brought the fizzle rocks drugs to the Midnight Club so many years ago, so what is his end game here and how does Claudius fit in? It seems like Betty is actually obtaining quite the inside scoop until she meets her new roommate…Ethel. To quote Betty, “Fun!” Ethel is beyond obnoxious, as she tries to even tell Betty that her and Jughead will be a ship. Betty hilariously says, “Ethelhead…in your dreams” and I have to agree. Ethel is not the only threat that Betty has to deal with, however.

“The king awaits you.”

In a frightening moment, Betty is taken to The Gargoyle King’s chambers against her will after she discovers that the “X” door has been boarded up with bricks. Betty is forced to take the fizzle rocks drug and is brought before the king, which is absolutely terrifying. We do not get to see who or what Betty sees, but we do witness her behavior later on, as she now seems completely different. It’s almost like she is a shell of her former self, as she gives mechanical answers about the pictures that Sister Woodhouse holds up. Betty even recites, “My king, my savior. Guide me through the night. Bless me with your darkness. Gift me with your flight.” Has Betty been completely brainwashed? Are the drugs to blame? What did she really see in the Gargoyle King’s chambers? Also, where are Cheryl and Toni? They deserve some much needed screen time. Stay tuned for the mid-season finale next week!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 6: “The Gargoyle King Is in the House”

Happy Wednesday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 6, the mystery behind “The Gargoyle King” continued to mystify us, as Betty desperately tried to connect the dots. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In tonight’s episode, “Chapter Forty-One: Manhunter,” Betty refuses to back down, as she confronts the parents of Riverdale about their past secrets. Meanwhile, Veronica gets cozy in a jail cell, Josie’s health takes a turn for the worse, and Archie’s guilt is too much to bear. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 6 are:

“What’s the connection there?”

In the beginning of the episode, Josie begins to feel pressure when questioned about her alibi and is the next one to have a seizure. Luckily, she will be OK, but why Josie? We know that Betty, Ethel, and now Josie have had seizures, but is there any connection between these three? Evelyn Evernever was present in the classroom so I am starting to think that she could be the link here, but there are still so many missing pieces of the puzzle.

“Someone in this room is a murderer.”

There’s just something to be said about Betty Cooper. She is smart, loyal, and probably the most capable person in Riverdale. When Betty is on the case, she follows through on every lead, proving to be an amazing detective and our favorite modern day Nancy Drew. Betty invites all of the parents to a meeting by using an invitation from “The Gargoyle King.” The parents fall for the bait and Betty wants to get to the bottom of the murder of Principal Featherhead. Penelope Blossom suggests that Dilton’s father, Darryl Doiley, was the culprit, but things get complicated when Betty discovers that his suicide was actually a covered up murder. Penelope is straightforward with Betty and I don’t suspect her yet as “The Gargoyle King.” However, my theory about Hermione is starting to make more sense now. During the meeting, Hermione told Hiram that they should just get this over with and was also the first one to point fingers at Penelope, which quickly took the spotlight off of her. Clever Hermione, but what’s your potential motive?

“You’re the Gargoyle King.”

Jughead and the Serpents track down Joaquin, who reveals that Hiram Lodge met with the warden. Jughead doesn’t need any further evidence to confront Hiram Lodge. Hiram is not threatened by Jughead at all and dismisses his accusations. I still think that Hiram is way too obvious here, but he is far from innocent, as he orders for the witnesses at Shadow Lake to be eliminated. Later on, Jughead discovers Joaquin’s lifeless body with the sacrifice mark on his forehead. Who is behind Joaquin’s death? I’m not completely sure, but someone definitely knows that he was over sharing. Sorry to see you go Joaquin, but also kind of not because you stabbed Archie…

“Because we’re end game.”

After discovering the bodies of the Shadow Lake witnesses, Archie cannot handle anymore blood on his hands. Even though he is not responsible for this, Archie feels like he needs to leave town, as he is no longer safe from Hiram Lodge. He calls Veronica from a pay phone to say goodbye to her, but Veronica tries to explain that she found evidence to exonerate him. Archie tells Veronica, “You were it for me” and proceeds to tell her how much he loves her, but Veronica cannot bear to say goodbye. After he hangs up the phone, Archie says, “Goodbye Veronica,” which is beyond heartbreaking. Archie is not alone; however, as Jughead is by his side and the two head out together. What’s next for Archie? I’m not sure, but I am hoping that he has a change of heart and returns to Veronica. Veronica has always been by his side and she deserves the very best, but we know that Archie tends to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders.

“The Gargoyle King is in the house.”

In a frightening moment, Betty and Alice are speaking when the power goes out in their house. “The Gargoyle King” appears before them and they run up the stairs, abandoning the popcorn on the stove. When they reach a bedroom, there is a message on Darryl Doiley’s grave stone, threatening both Alice and Betty. With perfect timing, FP comes through the window and stays with them until the threat is over. I definitely had a little bit of Scream nostalgia here with the burning popcorn and Skeet Ulrich coming through the window, but it’s definitely no longer safe for the Cooper women. Alice tells Betty that she is heading off to the farm, but in a shocking twist, sends Betty to the “Sisters of Quiet Mercy” against her will. Betty feels betrayed and confused here and walks into a room, surrounded by disturbing portraits of “The Gargoyle King.” It doesn’t look like Betty is going to escape this nightmare anytime soon, but why did Alice choose to turn on her now? I think we are in desperate need of another rescue from Cheryl, Toni, and Veronica, but we’ll have to wait and see. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 5: “Let the Game Begin”

Happy Wednesday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 5, we learned that the apple really doesn’t fall that far from the tree, as some of our favorite characters repeated the same mistakes as their parents. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In tonight’s episode, “Chapter Forty: The Great Escape,” Jughead continues to immerse himself into “Griffins and Gargoyles” and is finally ready to bring the game “off board.” Meanwhile, Veronica works on a plan of her very own to help Archie break out of prison and Cheryl shows off her impressive archery skills. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 5 are:

“There’s something we should discuss.”

After realizing Jughead’s involvement in the game, Betty decides to continue investigating on her own and looks to her friends for help. Betty is convinced that one of their parents could be responsible for the murder of Principal Featherhead and suggests that they each try and talk to their parents to see what they know. While Reggie’s father responds with unnecessary violence, Kevin and Josie get more information than they bargained for when they find out that their parents are getting married. Congrats?

“You can’t fight your destiny.”

In the beginning of the episode, Archie and the others try to execute their escape plan, but fail. Archie is branded by the warden, which is beyond brutal, but is also rewarded with a last supper of sorts. Archie recognizes that the warden no longer needs him and realizes that something big is about to go down. He asks the warden how Hiram Lodge framed him and learns that Hiram paid the witnesses $10,000 each to lie while under oath. Archie’s life is worth $30,000 according to the warden, but we know that Veronica and his friends see his true value and will stop at nothing to help him.

“I’m a Lodge. I know how this goes.”

Veronica continues to clash with her father, but refuses to just sit on the sidelines. She enlists the help of Elio and his mob connections to get into the prison. Veronica sports a blonde wig and some classy sunglasses, but Hiram quickly spots her. Veronica and her friends are ready to help Archie break out of prison, as they follow her plan and instructions. Only we quickly learn that Jughead’s game of “Griffins and Gargoyles” is directly connected to the plan, but how far does this link go?

“I’m Game Master!”

Jughead tries to explain that “we have been playing this game for a lot longer than we know.” The game apparently relates to everything and every decision has a direct consequence in real life. We also learn that the game only takes place in Riverdale, which is why no one else has ever heard of it. Betty desperately tries to get Jughead to snap out of it, but his obsession has elevated to a new level. Jughead may be the “Game Master,” but it’s only a matter of time before this game turns deadly, but for whom?

“To the grave.”

In a confusing moment, Joaquin kisses Archie and then stabs him. Archie does not understand this betrayal and Joaquin says, “The warden said if I’d do this, I’d ascend.” Joaquin is somehow directly involved in the game along with the warden, which has us all wondering who is the Gargoyle King? Archie is able to successfully break out of prison with the help of Mad Dog and his friends and he will remain in the bunker until it is safe. Veronica tells everyone in the room that they are all in a pact and that they will need to take this to the grave, as history now repeats itself for our favorite characters. When Betty detects Archie’s brand, we learn that the symbol is from the game, which is not surprising. After seeing the preview for the upcoming episode on November 28^th, we know that it means sacrifice. At the end of the episode, the warden ends his own game by taking the cyanide after failing to bring down the “Red Paladin.” While Jughead initially suspects that the warden may be the Gargoyle King, I am now wondering if it is Hiram Lodge. Perhaps this is too obvious; however, but we know that Hiram is sort of like the king of Riverdale and is performing evil acts left and right. Part of me also thinks that it could be Hermione Lodge, which would be an interesting twist. Hermione was on her way to see the warden right before he killed himself so is it possible that our Gargoyle King is really a queen? Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 3: “The Real Game Is Just Beginning”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 3, Hiram Lodge reminded us, “Don’t make enemies of the people trying to help you,” but it’s difficult to determine who is a friend and who is a foe in Riverdale. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Thirty-Eight: As Above, So Below,” Jughead begins his first game of “Griffins and Gargoyles.” Meanwhile, Betty tries to talk to Evelyn, Veronica opens her club, “La Bonne Nuit,” and Archie becomes a star. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 3 are:

“I couldn’t have done it without my favorite power couple.”

I think it’s safe to say that Cheryl and Toni, otherwise known as Choni, may be everyone’s favorite power couple. At least they are definitely mine. Veronica approaches Cheryl and Toni, initially looking for Jughead, and Cheryl hilariously says, “You mean True Detective? He’s busy canoodling Nancy Drew no doubt.” Seriously Cheryl is laugh out loud funny. Veronica is looking for some material to blackmail her father and Toni has an in on where one of the Jingle Jangle drug labs are. My favorite trio is back, reminding me of when Toni and Veronica teamed up to rescue Cheryl last season, as the three put their own sleuth skills to the test, capturing the drug lab on camera while looking absolutely fabulous. It was nice to see some more air time for Cheryl and Toni, who definitely know how to make an entrance together.

“I’m shaking you down.”

Betty gives Veronica some really great advice when she tells her to focus on herself for a change. Veronica has been so worried about Archie, but she does have a business to run. Veronica decides to open up her club, “La Bonne Nuit,” but things get complicated when she gets a visit from Penny, a delivery of Jingle Jangle, and her father snooping around. Veronica is not threatened; however, and she tries to get some leverage over her father, only he pretty much anticipates her every move. Either way, Veronica’s opening night is a success, as Josie performs and Kevin gets his moment in the spotlight as the MC. Congrats Veronica!

“That kid is a star.”

Archie initially turns down the warden’s request to be the next “mad dog,” but changes his mind when the warden initially uses Joaquin. Archie is always trying to do the right thing and agrees to take his place, which involves some kind of fighting pit for entertainment. Archie starts winning fights, but the warden reminds him that he wants him to put on more of a show. Archie ultimately decides to take several punches before ending the fight, giving the warden the entertainment he is looking for without beating his opponent badly. The warden approves and recognizes Archie’s star potential, but Archie realizes that he needs to get out of there before things escalate further. Archie has clearly been watching one too many episodes of Prison Break, as he decides that they will need to plan their escape from jail. Good luck Archie.

“We know all each other’s secrets.”

Betty decides to approach Evelyn, even though she gives off a major creepy vibe, to find out more information about the farm and its possible connection to the game. Betty is surprised when Evelyn and some members of the farm show up at her house, ready to find out all of Betty’s secrets. Although I’m not sure there is much left to tell since they already know about the body in the kitchen and Betty’s “webcamming” past. Alice has disclosed all of their family secrets, but does she know what she is doing? Betty requests an audience with Edgar, but is turned down. She tries to make a connection to the seizures, but no one seems willing to open up to her. Alice even tells her daughter that she trusts the farm more than her, which is heartbreaking to hear. Betty recognizes that the farm is a threat, but will she be able to find out what is really going on there before it’s too late?

“Welcome to your first game.”

After approaching Ethel again after her seizure, she determines that Jughead is worthy to play the game. Ethel agrees to hand over the rule book or the “scripture” only after he completes his first test. You would think possibly drinking poison would be punishment enough, but Ethel tells Jughead that he also needs to kiss her in order to obtain the rule book. Poor Jughead. For some reason, Ethel decides to drink from the other cup and winds up in the hospital again, but is OK for now. However, she is having conversations with “The Gargoyle King” and explains that she found him someone truly worthy to play, meaning Jughead. Later on, FP and Alice discover the rule book and burn it, not wanting their children anywhere near it. Betty and Jughead quickly realize that their parents know something about the game, but we still don’t get any concrete answers here. Later on, everyone gets their very own copy of the rule book placed in their school lockers, revealing that “the real game is just beginning.” New episodes return November 7^th. Stay tuned!
