Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 19: “Fear the Reaper”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 19, I realized that keeping secrets can be a dangerous game on its own. However, when you also mix in playing G&G, things are going to get crazy. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Fifty-Four: Fear the Reaper,” Jughead teams up with FP and Gladys to try and rescue Jellybean. Meanwhile, Betty checks up on Evelyn, Archie contemplates giving up boxing, and Josie makes a big decision. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 19 are:

“We’re not end game.”

During the episode, Josie is excited that her father has come to town and she really begins to contemplate her own future. Josie says, “I want to broaden my musical horizons,” but it looks like she has been searching for something of her own for a while. After giving a dazzling performance, Josie’s father agrees to let her accompany him on tour and it looks like she could be heading off to NYC.

Josie tells Archie that they are not end game and that’s OK, but it looks like this is the end for Archosie. Josie’s return to Riverdale is uncertain and it probably has something to do with her joining another Archie Comic spin-off series called, “Katy Keene,” which will also star Lucy Hale from Pretty Little Liars. While we don’t know when or if the series will get picked up, it looks like Josie has the opportunity to really step into the spotlight now and I can’t wait to see what she does next!

“Check my file…I think I just might.”

I love when Betty gets her Nancy Drew on and this episode was no exception. Betty may not have found out much about Edgar, but she does discover a lot of interesting information on Evelyn. We discover that Evelyn has been pretending to be a seventeen-year-old Junior for over a decade at numerous schools and that she is actually 26. If that’s not shocking enough for you, we also learn that she is not Edgar’s daughter, she’s his wife. Still with me? Betty is concerned because her mother is about to marry Edgar and he also wants to adopt Polly’s twins.

Betty goes to Hal for help and he suggests someone who is “uniquely motivated” to help her, leading her to Penelope Blossom. However, it seems like Penelope is more interested in taking the boy twin and naming him Jason Junior, which doesn’t help Betty all that much. As the secrets begin to unravel, it’s interesting to see how much of an impact Evelyn can have on the teenagers around her. But what will happen when everyone finds out that she has been lying? Are the members of the Farm too far gone or is there anything that Betty can do?

“Still wanna call me the reaper?”

After the dramatic boxing match in last week’s episode, Randy is pronounced dead and the guilt immediately begins to overwhelm Archie. Fred gives Archie a heartwarming talk and tells him that he’s innocent and I just recently learned that this was actually Luke Perry’s final scene, which makes this talk that much more meaningful. This is not the first time that Archie has blamed himself, but he is far from a reaper. Archie thinks about giving up boxing, but ultimately decides to use his prize money to give to Randy’s family, which is a very generous gesture.

Elio continued to get on my nerves, pretending that he didn’t juice Randy, but it’s all starting to make sense, as we see later in the episode that he is working for Hiram Lodge. It was only a matter of time before this “truce” came crashing down between Hiram and Archie. Now that Josie is making her exit, there is an even greater potential for a reunion between Archie and Veronica, but will that sever this truce for good? Hiram is very dangerous and a master manipulator, but there’s something about Archie that brings out the worst in him and it looks like this is only going to escalate further.

“Join us.”

After getting nowhere with Penelope, Betty reaches out to Toni, hoping that she can sneak her into the Farm so that she can get the other twin out of there safely. Only Toni has now crossed over to the other side. Et tu, Toni? Toni talks about how she always wanted a family and has now found one with the Farm and leads Betty right to the heart of it. Was Toni brainwashed or is something else going on here? I find it hard to believe that she was so against the Farm previously and now has become one of its puppets.

Betty asks the Farm why they are all smiling and her mother reveals that she already knows that Edgar is married to Evelyn, which makes their union that much creepier. Betty seems like she is falling under the thrall of the Farm for a moment, but she snaps out of it. Betty remembers seeing the babies thrown into the fire before she had a seizure earlier in the season and she makes a run for it. Even though we are learning a lot more about the Farm, there are still so many unanswered questions and I hope we get to the bottom of it before the end of the season, as we only have three episodes left!

“If we play and we win, we can get Jellybean back.”

Jughead has his own family drama to deal with in this jam-packed episode, as he agrees to play the game under creepy Kurtz’s orders. And here are our players:

Deadeye: FP

Hellcaster: Jughead

The Alchemist: Gladys

In the first round, secrets are out and FP learns what Gladys has been up to. It was only a matter of time before he found out, but they need to put this aside to try and save Jellybean. FP says that there will be a reckoning, which reminds us that he will definitely circle back to this anger, however. The next task involves the Jones family robbing Pop’s Diner, which ends with FP getting shot. In the next task, we see a Cyclops card and in walks Penny Peabody, who is definitely looking for some revenge. Gladys and her fight, channeling their inner Elektra and Gladys is victorious, but definitely needs to go to the hospital as well, which means that everything is now up to our hero, Jughead.

Jughead is presented with two doors and is told to choose, as Kurtz mentions “The Lady, or the tiger,” which is a short story written by Frank R. Stockton. The story is set in an ancient country and the king is put through a set of trials, much like Jughead. He ultimately has to choose between two doorways: one leading to the princess and one leading to death. Jughead is faced with this same dilemma and ends up being trapped behind the door, as Kurtz gives the order to eliminate the princess. Jughead is able to break free and saves the day, as I breathed a sigh of relief. Yay Jughead!

Even though Jughead saves the day for now, we are still left with several unopened doors of our own. Jughead came face to face with the Gargoyle King, but he didn’t have time to stay, as he rushed off to make sure that Jellybean was all right. Gladys says that she is leaving town, but Jellybean will be staying behind, but what does this mean for the drug trade in Riverdale?

Also, Hiram is ready to step out of the shadows and it’s been quite a while since we have seen Hermione, which continues to stir my own suspicions. Plus, we learn that while Hal was being transferred to Hiram’s new prison, there was an accident and no survivors. Betty asked Hiram to transfer her father to his prison, but can you ever really make a deal with the devil? Is Hal really dead or have we just released the former Black Hood back into society? I’m not sure, but I can’t wait to find out. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Killing Eve” season 2 episode 3: “The Hungry Caterpillar”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching BBC America’s Killing Eve season 2 episode 3 on AMC, I realized that there’s always an effective way to get back at someone and Villanelle is the queen of this. If your new handler is not so nice, why not go on a shopping spree on him? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “The Hungry Caterpillar,” Villanelle claims that she is not jealous of the new female assassin with the clever nickname, “Ghost,” but she starts to have second thoughts when she realizes she may have Eve’s undivided attention. Meanwhile, Eve tries to show her support for Niko by attending one of his school functions, but has trouble leaving the job behind her for the night. My top 5 moments from Killing Eve season 2 episode 3 are:

“Hate is something she understands.”

After the shocking twist in last week’s episode, Eve has a conversation with Konstantin. Konstantin asks Eve: “You think she loves you? Then make her hate you…hate is something she understands. Look what happens to those she loves.” This clearly hits home with Eve and she does begin to really contemplate her own feelings and thoughts, but I don’t think it has tamed the obsession going on between her and Villanelle just yet. Konstantin makes a valid point; however, and he understands what it means to have Villanelle’s distorted affection, as he points out that she did try to kill him.

Is Eve any different from the others Villanelle has loved or will she end up in the same predicament? I’m not sure, but it seems like Eve really challenges Villanelle, which may not be something she is used to. Villanelle likes to maintain control, but I think that deep down she truly wants to be surprised, so that she can tap into some hidden feelings of her own and know what it feels like to truly be alive.

“Uh oh…are you trying to make me jealous?”

Villanelle’s new handler, Raymond, tells her about the new female assassin, “Ghost,” and also explains that she doesn’t work for them just yet. So who does Ghost work for and what does she want? We know that Villanelle loves to hog the spotlight and is not a fan of discrete kills, but will this throw her off her game now that she knows that Eve is involved? We’ll have to wait and see, but I’m looking forward to meeting Ghost face-to-face.

“Do you have cats? Maybe you should just get another one…”

Eve puts on her gorgeous new blue dress and meets Niko at his school function, but is not too thrilled with the company he is keeping, as she notices another co-worker flirting with him. Villanelle also makes an appearance at the school function with an adorable new disguise that sort of reminded me of Velma from Scooby Doo if she suddenly found her inner Daphne. Even though Eve does not see Villanelle, she is pretty much everywhere. Eve panics when she sees the apple in Niko’s classroom and is immediately on edge.

Villanelle also takes some quality time with the co-worker crushing on Niko and gives her some life lessons about getting more cats. Eve pulls the fire alarm to get outside, but she doesn’t notice Villanelle right behind her, who slips her a clue. Eve is always so meticulous and contemplative about everything, but it appears that she may be slightly off her game because of Villanelle’s impact on her. Will she be able to get it together? Let’s hope so!

“I’m going to offer you something she won’t…”

Later on, Eve approaches Konstantin behind Carolyn’s back and offers to tell him where his family is if he tells her what she wants to know. This is a dangerous play here, as Eve goes against Carolyn, which may have severe consequences at her job. However, Eve is thinking in the moment and desperately wants to find Villanelle and also discover more information on The Twelve. Eve recognizes that the elevator death is not Villanelle’s usual style, but the lipstick clue she left says otherwise.

Carolyn is not too happy with Eve’s play here, as it ultimately backfires, but will Eve really be able to stick to her side from now on? At the end of the episode, Eve begins to put the lipstick on and cuts her lip, realizing that Villanelle hid a blade underneath. What does this mean for Eve? It looks like Villanelle is not playing sweet and nice with her anymore, but that doesn’t mean that her obsession is gone. However, it may have just reached a new level now, becoming that much more dangerous. Watch out, Eve!

“This is a terrible hug.”

Konstantin comes for Villanelle and she begins running toward him. However, instead of trying to kill him, she embraces him with a hug and hilariously asks: “You’re not still mad about that are you?” Villanelle may have tried to kill Konstantin, but he seems to ultimately need her. He offers her a partnership and gets Villanelle out of there right before Eve barges into the room. There are so many missed encounters in this episode between Eve and Villanelle, but I’m intrigued to find out what will finally happen when they come face-to-face with one another.

As Villanelle drives off with Konstantin, she hilariously begins singing obnoxiously to “Listen To Your Heart” by Roxette, which you can listen to here! Villanelle has many talents, but I’m not sure that singing is one of them, but this moment just made me adore Villanelle that much more. What will she do next now that she is working with Konstantin? Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 19: “Jack in the Box”

Happy Friday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 19, I realized that innocence can be dangerous. Good intentions can easily be manipulated or distorted and trusting the people you care about the most can help or hurt you. But what happens when that trust is finally broken? Do we give in to the emptiness or do we still try to find a glimmer of humanity buried within? Please note major spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Jack in the Box,” Sam and Dean try to honor Mary and have a meaningful discussion with other Bobby. Meanwhile, Jack continues to be pestered by Lucifer and is tricked into doing “God’s work” by Duma. My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 19 are:

“We’re so glad for the time that we had.”

In the beginning of the episode, Sam and Dean hold a memorial service for Mary and invite some of their hunter friends. Dean talks about how they got a second chance with her and how they really got to know Mary as a person. He explains that she was strong and stubborn as hell and also mentions that she really couldn’t cook worth a damn, but this moment was truly touching, as we see how many lives Mary influenced over the years. However, the moment when Dean goes off by himself and is just seen crying was very powerful for me and caused me to shed a few tears of my own. Dean always tries to be so strong for his friends and family, but when he is by himself, he finally allows himself a moment to truly mourn the loss of his mother.

“If his human side is gone, you know what’s left…Lucifer.”

Other Bobby makes an appearance at Mary’s memorial and takes out a monster who was lurking in the crowd, but please make sure he gets his hatchet back! Bobby actually provides Sam, Dean, and Castiel with some great advice, as he reminds them about what they need to do. Even other Bobby explains that he has a soft spot for Jack, but he understands that sometimes you need to do what is necessary for the greater good. Dean seems all for this, but can Castiel and Sam follow along? We know that they both have a strong connection to Jack and it may be more difficult for them to try and eliminate him, as they understand that he doesn’t fully comprehend his actions.

“It doesn’t have to be a dream.”

After Castiel fills Duma in about what’s going on with Jack, she takes this opportunity to use him to her advantage. Duma is trying to secure her place as the leader of heaven and she manipulates Jack by telling him that Sam and Dean would want him to do God’s work. However, Jack starts to take some passages from the bible too literally when he actually begins to make them come true. I even had to turn away from the screen when the worms started eating that pastor from the inside. Gross! Jack still has so much naivete, but this is now dangerous because he doesn’t have a soul to truly think about the consequences of his actions. Jack begins to make going to heaven a reality and he’s even making angels out of humans, which could become a very dangerous threat.

“They never loved you…”

Lucifer continues to exist within Jack’s mind and it doesn’t look like he is going anywhere. Jack tries to tell him that he doesn’t want to listen to him, but Lucifer can be very convincing and he plays on Jack’s weaknesses. He repeatedly tells Jack that he cannot trust the Winchesters and tries to get Jack to unleash the power within him. Is Jack a greater threat than Lucifer? I’m not sure, but it doesn’t help that he has him cheering in his mind’s corner at all times.

“I don’t know if I can do it.”

Dean recognizes that they cannot defeat Jack because he is so powerful, but he can be contained. He circles back to the Ma’lak box, which he was going to use to trap him and Michael once upon a time. Dean tells Sam that he needs to be the one to lie to Jack, but Sam is not sure that he can do this. Jack trusts Sam so completely and Dean knows that he will do what he says, promising that they are working on some sort of spell to restore Jack’s soul even though this is not true. Sam does what he has to and locks Jack inside, but his guilt is overwhelming him.

Castiel eliminates Duma and tries to tell the Winchesters that Jack was tricked, but it’s too late. The trust has been broken and Jack is actually able to tap into enough of his power to break free from the box with Lucifer’s support. Jack stares at Sam, Dean, and Castiel with glowing eyes, suggesting that he has become something even more powerful. Is there any way to stop Jack? Stay tuned for the season finale next week!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” season 1 episode 5: “You Are My Beautiful Dreamer”

Greetings TV fans! After watching Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists season 1 episode 5, we were reminded that you can’t be friends with people you can never trust. But what happens when you are all brought together by tragedy? Is it better to stick together or should you continue to go your own separate way? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “The Patchwork Girl,” Alison comes face to face with Taylor Hotchkiss. Meanwhile, Ava, Caitlin, and Dylan come up with a plan to find out more from Mason and Mona reminds Dana Booker that research goes both ways. My top 5 moments from Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists season 1 episode 5 are:

“My cloak of invisibility.”

In this episode, Mona comes face to face with Ray Hogadorn. Ray is an interesting character for sure and seems to really have a thing for peanut brittle. He reveals that he does know quite a bit and has been watching from afar, telling Mona that the list on the program could be a list of suspects or something to connect the dots, but what are the dots exactly? Ray has been on campus for a long time and also mentions a girl he was in love with named Angela and says that she died tragically by jumping off a bridge. He says he shared this story with Taylor and fears that it may have inspired her to do the very same thing, but also thinks that she could be alive as well.

We know that Ray was definitely not Nolan’s biggest fan, but he seems to be very forthcoming with Mona. Does he recognize that they want the same thing or is he hiding something? We know that Ray is the one who left Taylor the message on the wall about them watching her, but what else does Ray know and can he be truly trusted?

“It’s a funny thing about research. It goes both ways.”

Dana Booker tries to have a sit down talk with Mona and claims that she knows quite a lot about her past in Rosewood. However, Mona is not easily scared and tells Dana that she knows about her making connections that aren’t there and how she got kicked out of the FBI. Dana Booker may be dangerous, but Mona will win hands down so she better watch her back! We also learn that Mona was waiting for her online chess partner, Bad Bishop, but he or she never showed. I’m still interested to find out more about this person.

“I’m not that easy to fool.”

Ava continues to get hidden messages and thinks her father is trying to contact her. Ava finds a note that reads:

Dreamer,

It’s time to go. Make sure you’re not followed. No one can know.

Ava grabs a bag full of cash and makes her way out to the coordinates, but runs into Dana Booker, who is the one responsible for leaving the messages. Dana is proving to be a formidable opponent, but Ava outsmarts her. She left the money in the car just in case and this was the right call. Even though Dana can play the game however she wants, our new characters are proving to be quite impressive, but I did feel bad for Ava here, as she clearly wants to reconnect with her father more than anything else in the world.

“We don’t just look alike. We think alike.”

After tracking down Taylor, Alison refuses to give up until she gets some answers. Taylor initially tells Alison to get out of her house, but Alison persists and asks her: “What are you afraid of?” Taylor explains that someone tried to kill her, but also says that her mother brought Alison here to find her. Alison tries to tell Taylor that her mother is very worried about her, but Taylor doesn’t want to talk to her, which makes me continue to suspect Claire. She may not be behind the murder of her own son, but Taylor is clearly very afraid and her mother may have something to do with whoever was watching her. Alison tries to bring Taylor home so that she feels safe, but she ends up leaving. Will Alison be able to connect the dots here? Let’s hope so!

“And then this nightmare will finally end…”

Ava, Caitlin, and Dylan seem like they may be going their separate ways after more secrets are revealed. Ava finds out that Dylan had an affair with Nolan and Caitlin was the one responsible for information leaking on Ava’s father. Before the secrets begin to tear them apart, they come up with a simple plan to find out exactly what Mason knows and to see if he is the one behind everything. However, a simple plan becomes way more complicated when it involves kidnapping and drugging someone. After the three characters have a fight, they begin to do things their own way, but quickly learn that they need each other. Just as they all try to come together to help, Caitlin is struck by a car and we do not know her fate just yet.

We know that after Caitlin hit Mason over the head, he did wake up, so was he the driver behind the wheel or is there someone else watching them? We also know that Claire was angry at Caitlin for lying to her so could she be the mysterious driver? We’ll have to wait and see, but things are continuing to spiral out of control for our characters and hopefully Alison and Mona will be able to save the day before it’s too late. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Riverdale” season 3 episode 18: “She’s her Father’s Daughter”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Riverdale season 3 episode 18, the Invasion of the Body Snatchers drama continued, as some of our favorite characters dove deeper into trouble. Whether they were looking for answers or comfort, darkness is never too far away in Riverdale. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Chapter Fifty-Three: Jawbreaker,” Jughead works with FP to investigate the town’s latest murder. Meanwhile, Betty tries to get through to Alice, Toni worries about Cheryl’s involvement in the Farm, and Archie is up for a rematch with Veronica’s full support. My top 5 moments from Riverdale season 3 episode 18 are:

“I felt reborn.”

In the beginning of the episode, Betty continues her conversation with Edgar Evernever, who begins to reveal more about himself. Edgar explains that he previously felt lost and found himself on a farm, which made him want to recreate that feeling of being reborn with his own farm. Betty recognizes that it sounds like a nice story and all, but she is not buying it whatsoever. Edgar does not reveal anything about how Cheryl and Alice are seeing their dead relatives, as he vaguely explains that they are discovering the best versions of themselves. Betty refuses to let Edgar turn everything around on her and decides to get through to her mother once and for all.

“I’m always in your corner…”

Archie feels very passionate about honoring Baby Teeth’s death and Veronica works with him to get their gym, the El Royale, in the spotlight. Elio agrees to let Archie have a rematch against Randy, but decides to dose him with “G,” which is some kind of bad batch of fizzle rocks that apparently turns people into zombies. Not really, but the foaming at the mouth and the extreme behavior sort of had me thinking along those lines. I mean, they are only a town away from Sabrina and Greendale so anything is possible.

Archie is able to knock Randy out, but the drugs may have actually done a lot of damage, as Randy is not waking up yet. Even though the fight was entertaining, I was more interested in the lingering stare between Archie and Veronica. Is there hope for Varchie? It looks that way and even Josie notices that Veronica certainly didn’t hold back when she purchased Archie some new attire for the fight.

“You’re a daughter who wants her mother back just like I want my girlfriend back.”

Finally someone else notices what is going on with the Farm! After Cheryl trades in her signature red for a white ensemble, Toni is beyond concerned about her. Toni approaches Betty, who fills her in on what she knows so far. Toni continues to try and get through to Cheryl, but Evelyn has other plans. Evelyn confronts Toni and Toni tells her, “Bitch I love her and she loves me.” Seriously Evelyn, you better watch out. Evelyn proves to be manipulative and conniving, as she tells Cheryl that she needs to choose between Toni and Jason. Toni says that there has to be another way and begins her own runway walk down the halls sporting some white attire.

I was a little worried that we had lost our girl Toni to the Farm as well, but she is undercover, still working with Betty. I have to say that I really enjoyed the interactions between Betty and Toni in this episode. We don’t typically see too much between these two, but they both have a common goal now and I’m interested to see them continue to work together to bring down the Farm for good.

“I will kill you…”

After crossing Toni, Evelyn makes the mistake of confronting Betty. Betty has had enough and slams Evelyn against a locker and threatens her. Go Betty! She tells her that she sees right through her and wants her to stop messing with her and her family. Betty doesn’t want to give up on her mother and even resorts to kidnapping her and keeping her in Dilton’s bunker. It seems a bit extreme, but Betty will do anything for her mother. Betty tells Alice, “The past is part of who you are,” but Alice doesn’t seem to want to remember the pain. Alice even begins burning the old photos that Betty shows her and Betty comes to the realization that she may need to let her mother go after all.

After listening to one of the tapes, Betty hears her mother’s thoughts on her, recognizing the same darkness in Betty that she saw in Hal. Betty continues to confide in her father about everything, but now he wants a favor in return. He’s ready to return home, but I’m not really sure how that would work. I mean, you don’t just get to leave prison and all. Betty is continuously pushed again and again, but will this release the darkness within her or will she channel her love for her friends and family?

“Save the little princess.”

After Jughead and FP catch Kurtz, Kurtz continues to be overly creepy and tells Jughead that “Baby Teeth was only the warm up to the ultimate quest.” He further explains that there is still one final game for Jughead and his family and we cut to Jellybean being brought to the Gargoyle King. I have so many questions here. Now that we have been focusing on the Farm so much, the Gargoyle King has taken a back seat, but it looks like he or she is done hiding in the shadows. However, why is the Gargoyle King so interested in the Jones family? Is there a connection between the Gargoyle King and Gladys? We know that she is controlling the drug trade, but is she somehow pulling the Gargoyle King’s strings as well. I previously thought that Hermione could be the woman behind the mask, but I’m not really sure what she would get out of hurting the Jones family.

There are a lot more players now and it’s difficult to determine who is the true Gargoyle King. Jughead also previously thought that perhaps Baby Teeth was murdered by a copy cat killer. Baby Teeth clearly struggled and he had a matchbook stuck in his throat from the Maple Club, which also potentially incriminates Penelope Blossom. We know that there is a connection between the Gargoyle King and the Midnight club from so many years ago, but what is the real motive here? If the Jones family is at the center of it, we need to carefully look at all of their potential allies and enemies. It looks like no one can really be cleared as innocent, but what is their end goal? Ranking the top 5 moments from “Killing Eve” season 2 episode 2: “Nice and Neat”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching BBC America’s Killing Eve season 2 episode 2 on AMC, I realized that ordinary errands like going to the Laundromat or the grocery store are not so ordinary if you have Villanelle tagging along. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Nice and Neat,” Villanelle tries to lay low, but ends up in a dangerous situation, forcing her to call for backup. Meanwhile, Eve meets the rest of her team and discovers that there may be another female assassin on the loose. My top 5 moments from Killing Eve season 2 episode 2 are:

“I need your help.”

So watching Villanelle grocery shop was everything! This scene was so hilarious, as she miserably walks down the aisles in her over-sized sweater and yellow T-shirt and even gets mistaken for a homeless person when she asks a woman for help. After getting a good look in the mirror, Villanelle tries to cover up some of her bruises with make-up, but it looks like she will need to put in a little more effort here since she still hasn’t really recovered from her injuries. Villanelle spots a man by himself and targets him, asking him for help and he accepts. One should be cautious about helping Villanelle, as she is far from an angel, but it looks like she may have made the wrong selection…

“I thought she was a ghost. I hate ghosts.”

Jodie Comer is so fantastic as Villanelle and her unintentional comedy was spot on in this episode. The stranger who helps Villanelle is named Julian and he agrees to let her stay at his home, which is completely covered in creepy dolls. Villanelle keeps her composure and comments on “how lovely” they are, but he even has a doll named Annabelle! As if this couldn’t get any worse, Villanelle meets Julian’s mother who suffers from dementia and mistakes her for a ghost, which is one of the funniest scenes I have seen on the show. You can’t help rooting for Villanelle in moments like these, as she starts to realize that Julian may be a little bit more dangerous than she initially realized. But we know that he is no match for our girl Villanelle. Watch out Julian!

“It wasn’t her…I knew it!”

While Villanelle is dealing with creepy Julian, Eve meets her new team and is excited to be reunited with Carolyn’s son, Kenny. Eve realizes that Alistair Peel’s murder was made to look like a heart attack and it did not scream for attention, which is far from Villanelle’s typical signature. Eve explains to her team that Villanelle is not sloppy and that she likes to really make a splash with her work, but that this assassin seems to be careful and almost invisible. After some more investigation, Eve realizes that this was not the work of Villanelle. It looks like we are dealing with another female assassin who likes to hide in plain sight, but is she Villanelle’s replacement or does she work for someone else? I’m intrigued to find out and I think it will be interesting to see Villanelle interact with this assassin in future episodes.

“That’s what you get, Julian.”

After Villanelle’s hilarious conversation with Julian’s mother, she realizes that she needs to get out of there as soon as possible. However, Villanelle quickly realizes that there are no real sharp objects in the house and she will need to get creative. She is still badly injured and knows that she needs backup. Villanelle tries to call her agency and I have to say that I absolutely loved the code of Cher Horowitz failing her driving test, as Clueless is one of my all time favorite movies! Villanelle is shocked to find out that no one seems to recognize who she is and decides to call MI6, asking for Eve. Villanelle is desperate and needs help, but Julian interrupts the phone call before she can get any further. Villanelle tells Julian: “I think you are going to bleed to death” and eliminates him once and for all, reminding him that’s what he gets. I was rooting for Villanelle so much here, as I was actually really worried that he would try to make her part of his creepy doll collection!

“Hello Eve.”

Eve finds out that Villanelle tried to call and she tries to make it to the house, but these two just miss each other. Villanelle is greeted by her new handler, who is planning on keeping her on a much tighter leash and she spots Eve from the car. So close! It looks like the drama is over for now until Eve later discovers that Villanelle’s previous handler, Konstantin, is waiting for her and Carolyn. This twist was interesting and I guess he made it out alive after all.

We know that Konstantin is involved with The Twelve and Carolyn, but is Eve prepared to actually work with him? It looks like she might not have a choice, but can he really be trusted? I’m still not sure if I even trust Carolyn at this point, but this twist definitely captured my full attention. What will Villanelle do when she finds out that he is alive? Also, this new handler of hers seems to be a bit strict and we know that Villanelle likes to do things her way, so it’s only a matter of time before she tries to rebel. But who will she turn to next? Stay tuned!

Spoiler-Free Review of “Black Summer” on Netflix: More than a Prequel to “Z Nation”

**This is a spoiler-free review so feel free to read on!**

“You can’t be immortal if you ain’t alive.” A valid point for sure, but how is one actually defined as a member of the undead these days? While we are all used to the slow moving walkers in The Walking Dead universe, the infected we see in Black Summer sort of have a 28 Days Later vibe, as they move much quicker, which may have you contemplating your own cardio workout to stay prepared.

So are they actually zombies or are they something else? Either way, if you are craving some zombie apocalypse fun, you’re in the right place. Black Summer has been advertised as a prequel to Z Nation, but the show actually can stand on its own and that’s how I plan on reviewing it.

The show currently features 8 episodes, all streaming on Netflix as of April 11^th 2019. It stars Jaime King, Justin Chu Cary, Christine Lee, Sal Velez Jr. and Kelsey Flower. We follow these survivors and witness what occurs after the zombie apocalypse first takes place, as they all desperately try to make it to the stadium to find missing loved ones and some kind of sanctuary.

However, the threats keep coming, as our characters are tested again and again while the undead continues to threaten their survival. But we also find that these characters have to watch out for each other as well, as it’s difficult to earn one’s trust during the zombie apocalypse.

The Pros:

The episodes are the perfect length.

The beginning episodes start out at about 40-45 minutes and as we move through the show, they actually shorten to 30 minutes and even 20 minutes, which makes binge-watching this show very feasible. I watched the first episode on Thursday night and I finished up the show the following night with very little effort.

The transitions between characters are clever and well done.

Another viewer mentioned to me that these transitions sort of reminded them of Pulp Fiction and I tend to agree. Credit on that goes to @NerdswithFriend on Twitter. We have seen so many shows and movies that feature a zombie apocalypse and it’s difficult to stand out and truly make a story unique. However, the clever fade-ins and transitions allow us to easily see things from different perspectives and it also helps quicken the pace of the show.

Some of the characters are absolutely fantastic.

While I was annoyed by some characters on the show, there are some standout performances. Christine Lee as Sun is truly amazing and you will root for her even more than the main billed cast. You may find yourself trying to determine who is going to make it and who will bite the dust, so to speak, but I will say that I was pleasantly surprised that so many of the characters did not just mold themselves into the stereotypical roles we sometimes see.

Some characters that you assume will make it, don’t, and others that seem so incompetent actually manage to scrape by, but I think that makes the show that much more entertaining.

Bone-chilling and terrifying moments.

There are some genuinely scary moments on this show and I found myself on the edge of my seat, not knowing what to expect. Sometimes the moments come out of nowhere, but I think that makes them even more brilliant. Maybe you will see some of the moments coming, but I think that they deliver and I still have been replaying some of them in my mind, as I have just created a whole new set of nightmares for myself.

The moments following the zombies around.

So I appreciate that the show is doing something different with these zombies, as they sprint after you as soon as they are turned, grunting and moaning. However, the noises are kind of jarring and distracting, as I found myself actually laughing several times when we followed around a zombie who was looking for their kill.

The show is meant to be serious so I know that this was not intended, but I just couldn’t take some of these zombies seriously. I don’t know if it was the acting or if was the amount of time we spent actually following them, which made me focus on this so much more, but it was slightly underwhelming and it took away from some of the initial scares.

The fluff in between the terrifying moments.

I’m all for character development and I’m not saying that the show needs to be jam-packed with zombies attacking, but I often found myself bored in between these moments. Some episodes are much better than others, but I think that the lack of background music during these moments really made this worse.

Don’t get me wrong, I thought that the lack of background music was brilliant during the moments where the characters were under attack, but how long do we need to follow someone walking in silence?

There are major plot holes.

I know that this a prequel, but I found several plot holes throughout the show and I was hoping to get some answers, but I realized that this was not going to happen once I got to episode 6, which was slightly disappointing.

So am I in or out?

I was initially very excited to watch this show because I absolutely love anything with zombies. However, after watching the first episode, I was slightly disappointed. Fear not, as I give all shows three episodes to start making a real assessment and the show did get better with each episode. However, I think that the show had a lot of potential to be absolutely brilliant, but it decided to settle comfortably as a standard zombie apocalypse show instead.

I’m not really sure if this show truly separated itself or provided us with anything new about the apocalypse, but it definitely had some terrifying and compelling moments.

If you love shows about zombies, I definitely recommend it and even if you don’t, you may find yourself intrigued for a quick binge-watch. However, I wouldn’t say that you need to move it to the top of your watch list, but the show had a lot of redeeming qualities and captured enough of my attention to make it an entertaining watch for sure.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 18: “Absence”

Happy Friday TV fans! After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 18, Dean reminded us that sometimes we get a “get out of jail free card,” but nothing is ever really for free and everything has its price. Please note major spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “Absence,” Sam and Dean try to track down Jack and Mary with Rowena’s help and make a shocking discovery. Meanwhile, Jack continues to be burdened by his guilt and receives a visit from an unlikely guide. My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 18 are:

“You cannot come back from that.”

After the major cliffhanger last week, we catch up with Jack, who is having trouble processing his actions. Jack is greeted by Nick…or Lucifer…or actually him in his subconscious. Nick/Lucifer/Jack channels his inner Jiminy Cricket and acts as a sort of guide or conscience for Jack, but what direction is he really pulling him toward? Jack desperately wants to find a way to make things right and bring Mary back, as he realizes that Sam and Dean may never forgive him, but can he really accept the consequences of his actions?

“They were never alone.”

Even though we find out that Mary Winchester is truly gone, we get to see her in a series of flashbacks done brilliantly in black and white sprinkled throughout the episode. One of my favorite flashbacks featured her and Castiel when Mary first returned from the dead. Castiel asks Mary if she is still afraid of him and it was interesting to see how much of an impact Mary made on each and every one of them. Later in the memory, Castiel tells Mary how happy Sam and Dean are now that she has returned to them so they don’t have to be alone and she tells Castiel that they were never alone, truly appreciating how much Castiel has looked after Sam and Dean for so many years like family.

“Don’t even say her name.”

Once Sam and Dean begin to realize that something terrible has happened, Dean’s anger gets the best of him. Castiel comes clean with Dean and explains that he knew that something was wrong with Jack and Dean says, “If he did something to her then you’re dead to me.” Castiel tries to explain that he was scared and that he wanted to believe that Jack was good, which is understandable, but we know that Dean has gone through so much and has a beautiful bond with Mary. It was heartbreaking to see this reaction, but I’m hoping that he will follow Mary’s lead and continue to try and do the right thing. However, I constantly notice that Sam, Dean, and Castiel keep things from one another to protect them and it seems like Jack has picked up on this behavior as well. Maybe it’s about time they begin to share everything with one another to avoid moments like this.

“Mary Winchester is no longer on this earth.”

Sam and Dean look to Rowena for help, but Jack has the same idea. Jack tries so hard to make things right, but sometimes dead is just dead. Rowena was absolutely fantastic in this episode and it was interesting to see her try and reason with Jack. She could have tried to fight him, but she tries to get through to him, telling him that they all want the same thing, which really shows how far Rowena has come as a character. However, it looks like it might be too late for Jack, as he fails to bring Mary back and he is left with his subconscious Nick/Lucifer/Jack telling him that he can no longer trust the Winchesters. Is Jack too far gone or is there some way they can still reach him?

“She is happy.”

The most resonating moment for me was when we got to see Dean’s flashback of Mary. It wasn’t a long conversation or some epic moment. It was just the two of them driving back together with Mary sleeping on his shoulder. I thought that this memory was so powerful and important, reminding us that it’s the series of little moments that truly count. Even though Mary is gone, Castiel peeks in on her personal heaven and tells Sam and Dean that she is happy and at peace with John. Mary Winchester is complete even though this may impact Sam and Dean for the rest of their lives, but at least she is not suffering. I had tears in my eyes when the last scene of the episode focused in on the desk with Sam, Dean, and Mary’s initials all carved in the center of it, reminding us that this bond will never be broken and that they will see each other again one day. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” season 1 episode 4: “The Emerald City”

Greetings TV fans! After watching Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists season 1 episode 4, I realized that sometimes you just have to go with your gut, as Alison reminded us: “It’s more than just a rose. It’s a feeling.” So what happens when we follow our instincts down that yellow brick road? Do we end up chasing after a ghost? And what happens when we are finally able to discover the man behind the curtain? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “The Ghost Sonata,” Alison and Mona continue to track down leads to discover more about Nolan’s murder. Meanwhile, Ava, Caitlin, and Dylan’s secrets begin to consume them, as they contemplate whether or not to share them with one another. My top 5 moments from Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists season 1 episode 4 are:

“Turn up the heat.”

Nolan’s mother, Claire, continues to act suspicious when she has another conversation with Caitlin. Claire realizes that Caitlin is lying to her and calls Dana Booker, asking her to turn up the heat. But what does this mean exactly? Why is Claire so interested in these particular friends of Nolan’s especially when we know that he had many other enemies that could be responsible for his death? It looks like we still have a lot to learn about Claire, but she is absolutely hiding something.

“Where is he? Everywhere…”

Ava, Caitlin, and Dylan continue to receive more cryptic messages about seeing a rat, but they immediately begin to suspect that Mason is behind this. However, this seems a little too obvious to me and I am starting to suspect Caitlin’s boyfriend, Jeremy. Jeremy has a motive for sure, as Nolan was trying to blackmail Caitlin and he also has a connection to Claire. We know that whoever is sending the messages must have some knowledge of IT or programming and Jeremy definitely fits this description. I know it’s just a theory of mine, but I am definitely getting a bad vibe from him, but we’ll have to stay tuned to find out more.

“I think you moved on. You just never said it out loud.”

Even though Alison has left Rosedale behind her, we see several text messages coming in from Emily. We later find out that Emily is asking for a divorce and Alison has been understandably hesitant about signing the papers. Mona continues to be a good friend and provides Alison with some supportive advice when she tells her that perhaps she has already moved on. Is Alison finally ready to say goodbye to her past? Maybe not entirely, but she is definitely making a huge difference with Ava, Caitlin, and Dylan, so perhaps she can continue to find herself through her work. It’s never too late to change and I love Alison’s character transformation so far. This spin-off is really allowing her and Mona to shine.

“Who is Ray Hogadorn?”

The questions keep coming and everyone is a suspect. Mona tracks down a lead to find Ray Hogadorn after doing some of her own detective work and she walks into a room filled with newspaper clippings and leads connected to Nolan and Taylor. At the end of the episode, the custodian walks in. Is this the infamous Ray and if so, what does he want? Does he work for the FBI? Is he connected to Mona somehow? Mona has also been having some online conversations with Bad Bishop. While their chess matches may be fun, is this a potential romance or a new threat?

“Secrets have a way of keeping you close and you need each other.”

Alison continues to try and help Ava, Caitlin, and Dylan, but she also tracks down a lead on her own after going through some of Taylor’s Wizard of Oz books. Claire tells her that Taylor was always looking for her own Emerald City and Alison realizes that she may have just found its location hidden in McDevitt’s Quarry. Alison finds a trailer and begins to look around, but comes face to face with Taylor. Only Taylor doesn’t want to stay and chat and she locks Alison inside the trailer. What could Taylor be running from and why did she need to fake her own death? The mystery is continuing to unravel, but let’s hope our girl Alison can find a way out of there before she finds herself lost in Oz for good. Stay tuned!

5 Spoiler Free Reasons why you should watch “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” Part Two on Netflix: Dancing with the Devil

“My soul is who I am and I signed it away willingly.” So what happens when we make that Faustian deal? Are we destined for darkness or can we still choose a path of light? For Sabrina Spellman, finding a balance between her mortal life and her witch one becomes that much more complicated in Part Two. Part Two features 9 episodes and they are all currently streaming on Netflix as of April 5^th 2019.

After watching all of the episodes in one weekend, I can tell you that I am even more hooked than I was before. While Part One subtly dipped us into darkness, we have now submerged ourselves in it completely, as the gates of hell threaten everyone in Greendale. However, sometimes the most dangerous threat is staring back at us in the mirror. Do we embrace the darkness or do we continue to fight for good to prevail? Please note that major spoilers have been left out for your convenience so feel free to read away! My top 5 reasons to check out Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part Two are:

Part Two is darker.

The spells are darker, the threats are darker, and even the romance is. Sabrina embraces her life as a witch, but quickly realizes that she may no longer be able to balance it with her mortal life. We learn about dark prophecies and fears, as Part Two does not hold back. It gives us the perfect amount of horror and has quickly become one of my favorite shows about witches of all time.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer nostalgia.

Some fans of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina mentioned that they thought the show was similar to Buffy back in Part One. While I did see some similarities with certain episode plots, it still seemed far away from Buffy, which is one of my favorite series of all time and it’s difficult for a show to even come close to this for me. However, Part Two was a different story. We discover a lot about the gates of hell in Part Two, which will have you thinking about the hellmouth in Sunnydale. Also, Sabrina’s mortal friends come together and start helping out a lot more this season, reminding me a lot of the Scoobies in Buffy. Alexis Denisof (Wesley from Buffy and Angel) is a fun guest star and we also see a darker romance for Sabrina, which gave me a lot of Bangel feels. The end of Part Two will have you making some comparisons to “Becoming Part II” of Buffy, which is my favorite episode of all time. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is unique and can stand on its own, but I thoroughly enjoyed some of these parallels, which made me like the show even more.

All hail the Villainess, Ms. Wardwell.

One of my favorite characters on the show is Ms. Wardwell, better known as Lilith. In Part Two, her character is explored a lot more and she becomes even more entertaining, if that is possible. I always love a worthy villainess and while some of the Weird Sisters continue with their antics in Part Two, Ms. Wardwell takes the cake as a villainess you do not want to mess with. We get to understand a little bit more about her motives as well and her dynamic with Alexis Denisof’s character, Adam, is very entertaining.

Kiernan Shipka.

I devoted a previous blog to Kiernan Shipka’s performance as Sabrina Spellman and even gave her my performance of the week. Kiernan elevates Sabrina’s character to something greater in Part Two. She is so convincing and she constantly challenges authority, proving to be a female role model one can look up to. Sabrina never shies away from a challenge and always speaks her mind and tries to do what she can to make a difference. She is so believable and strong, but she makes mistakes too, allowing us to relate to her that much more. I absolutely love seeing Sabrina’s character enter into more layers, as we get to peel back each one to discover more and more about who she is and who she is destined to be.

New and dangerous threats.

Part Two gives us so many new threats and a lot of twists and turns as well. Sabrina continues to be tested and we get a huge reveal later in the season, which will have you glued to your television. Even with all of the dangerous threats thrown Sabrina’s way, she continues to persevere. However, we quickly realize that Sabrina’s biggest threat may be herself, but are we ever truly able to separate our darkness from our humanity? Just when you think you have witnessed the Big Bad of Part Two, a new threat emerges, keeping us entertained and guessing until the very end. I fell in love with this series in Part One, but my love has now quickly become an obsession, which is a good thing. I hope you enjoy Part Two as much as I did and I absolutely recommend it. Ready to watch?
