Checking in on “Fear the Walking Dead” Season 6: Game Changer

Happy Wednesday TV Fans! When we last checked in on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, Virginia was still running things while Morgan started to gather his people at his new potential home.

I’ve been waiting for Fear TWD to find its edge again. That raw intense one it had in the very beginning of the series. After several seasons of singing kumbaya without any major character deaths, I was beginning to lose hope.

And then season 6, episode 8 aired which was a complete game changer for the series.

**Please note MAJOR spoilers are ahead if you are not caught up on the series.**

In season 6, episode 8, we check in on John Dorie, who has really lost his will to live. He contemplates taking his own life, but Morgan and Dakota show up to try and get him to come with them.

Morgan was in a very similar situation a while back and John Dorie was the one to give him the motivation to live again so Morgan tries to do the same for his friend.

Although John Dorie was introduced later in the series, he quickly became a fan favorite. He always saw the good in people and refused to change his moral compass even though the world has changed, which can be a good thing and a bad thing.

His relationship with June was one of the most beautiful ones I have ever witnessed on a show and there is an authentic and real quality to their marriage. It is far from perfect and both of them have run away from their mistakes before, but they always find a way back to each other.

As we fast forward through the episode, John agrees to help Morgan and Dakota clear the bridge but he wants to be left in peace after that. Morgan takes matters into his own hands and radios to Virginia where John is so that he doesn’t have a choice, explaining that he is not going to sit by and let his best friend die.

After a few close calls with the horde, it looked like we were right back where we started again and then Dakota decided to show her true colors.

John sees the knife that Dakota uses on a walker and realizes that she was the one who killed Cameron. Dakota explains that he ruined her way out and now she needs to continue to keep her secret…

After John puts away his own weapon, Dakota shoots John in the chest and pushes him over the bridge.

We get this incredible moment where John is drifting to the bottom of the water but sees the photo of him and his dad and it is enough to motivate him to make it to the surface.

Morgan confronts Dakota and we find out that she was the one who initially saved Morgan’s life because she thinks that he is the only one who can actually kill her sister.

Morgan radios over to Virginia and tells them to look for John in the water and that he might need help and of course poor June is there.

June discovers John in the water and he has already turned. In a heart shattering moment, she stabs him in the head, which really had my emotions stirring.

While this is an incredibly heartbreaking moment, this needed to happen.

We needed a major character death to remind us that this is a show about the zombie apocalypse. While I appreciate the messages of hope, there has to be something that truly motivates the rest of the group to stand up against Virginia and this is it.

When you think about the other characters on the show, it had to be John to go. He was the representation of all that is good in the world and when he changed his mind about ending his life, this death became that much more tragic to me.

I also think that Dakota showing her true colors is a game changer. I was honestly getting tired of the Virginia plot and Dakota may be an even more dangerous threat. She’s clearly a sociopath and it goes to show us how dangerous children can be growing up in this world.

Look at Lydia in TWD. She grew up with a monstrous mother and still managed to turn things around, but she could have easily fallen off the deep end. Dakota is the other end of the spectrum and I am really intrigued by this plot and I have to give it to the writers who really made this twist and reveal work in their favor.

As long as Fear TWD continues on this new path, they will be able to reclaim those moments of sheer perfection I witnessed earlier in the series.

Keep it going, Fear TWD! I can’t wait to see what happens now!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 6 episode 5: “Honey”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 6 episode 5, I learned that everyone is fighting for something, but when that happens, “somebody’s gotta lose.”

Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In season 6 episode 5, “Honey,” Dwight and Sherry’s reunion is quickly interrupted by masked intruders. Meanwhile, Morgan attempts to convince the others to join his fight to form a new community.

My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 6 episode 5 are:

“I don’t want you to get mixed up in this.”

In the beginning of the episode, we witness a reunion between Dwight and Sherry. They have finally found each other after all this time, but they realize that they need to figure out something in order to be together.

Dwight doesn’t want Sherry to get mixed up in with Virginia’s group, which complicates things for sure. Either way, I was happy to witness some happiness between these two…even if it was short-lived.

“Who the hell are these people?”

I was asking myself the same question, Dwight! Right after our reunion between Dwight and Sherry, a masked stranger breaks in, which instantly made me feel like I had changed the channel to an invasion horror film…not that I’m complaining.

We quickly learn that Sherry is actually with these masked strangers and they supposedly saved her life. They all have been wronged by Virginia and want revenge, but can they really be trusted?

“You steal it…”

First an invasion film and now a heist…

Either way, it gave us a lot of action as Al tells them that they will not be able to destroy Virginia’s tank. She does know it better than anyone else.

We witness an adrenaline filled scene with the group overtaking the tank and Al had me nervous quite a few times on top of that roof. Be careful, girl!

“You lose something?”

After the tank driver saw Dwight’s face, Al worries that he will run straight to Virginia, but luckily Morgan shows up with perfect timing to save the day.

Dwight and Al are surprised to see him, but Morgan is ready to get right down to business. He reveals his plan and says that they can find everyone, but this is easier said than done…especially since the masked riders have a plan of their own.

This causes a clash between Dwight and Morgan and we see some of the old Dwight flare up again during this episode. His moral compass wavers quite a bit, but we also know that he will do everything in his power to keep Sherry safe…

“I won’t let you become the person you used to be…”

At the end of the episode, Dwight and Sherry decide to go through with the plan, but Sherry shuts Dwight out, claiming she wants to stop him from becoming who he used to be.

Only Dwight doesn’t want that for Sherry either and intervenes with her plan. Dwight finally sees what Morgan and Al were talking about and realizes that it is too soon to try and take Virginia out.

Sherry ends up listening to Dwight, but there is a major cost. They decide to part ways only after being reunited for a little over a week, but it looks like Dwight is going to get his moment to start over fresh.

He and Al fake their deaths so that they can help Morgan, but Dwight makes it a point to free the wild dog from the masked stranger camp before he goes, which I thought was so representative of his own inner struggle.

Sometimes circumstances can shape us into who we are, but we have a choice and if a better path presents itself, it’s up to us to embrace it to start over again.

Now on to our next set of characters…seriously I’m losing track over here.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 6 episode 4: “The Key”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 6 episode 4, I learned that “a place is only as safe as people feel it is.”

Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In season 6 episode 4, “The Key,” John Dorie adjusts to his new life as a ranger, but quickly clashes with Virginia after he has his very own murder mystery to solve. Meanwhile, Morgan has an encounter with two strangers who are after the mysterious key he obtained.

My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 6 episode 4 are:

“Dear June…”

In the beginning of the episode, we open up to John narrating, as we hear some of his love letters to June. This divide is clearly hard on both of them, but I thought it was sweet that he was trying to keep the line of communication open.

This is not the first time we have seen these two love birds separated, but let’s hope they are able to reunite sooner than later.

“You can’t help me even if I do.”

After John discovers that Cameron is dead on the barbed wire fence, he suspects foul play, giving him an investigation to look into.

He finds an earring at the crime scene and shares some of his suspicions with Virginia, but she reminds him not to stir up trouble. Virginia wants to maintain the illusion of “safety” no matter what in her community and we’re about to find out how far she will go to keep this image going.

Janis tries to leave the community and the earring is found in her backpack. Janis tells John that Virginia planted it there, but things aren’t looking too good for Janis…

“If you go down this path there’s no going back.”

Victor shows up and tries to get John to see reason. John wants to do what is right and is even willing to risk never seeing June again to help Janis live. John has always had this admirable moral code, but we are living in a different world now and Victor is going to do whatever it takes to maintain “the peace.”

While Victor’s motives cannot always be trusted, it does appear that he is trying to look out for John Dorie’s best interest, but we know that Victor has kicked other innocents to the curb for his own agenda before.

“You killed her!”

After discovering that poor Janis has been basically executed by walkers, he blames Victor and the two of them even fight over it. John is feeling defeated, but he receives a key of his very own from Virginia.

The key isn’t the only reward as June also knocks on the door and tells him that she has been transferred.

John is happy to see her, but there is also this tragic moment where John removes his rotten tooth. He looks in the mirror and accepts his new fate, but I think that John is feeling a lot of remorse about what happened to Janis.

“What the hell do you unlock?”

I’m wondering the same thing, Morgan. At the very end of the episode, a car crashes into Morgan’s vehicle. Morgan and his new dog are all right, but the two strangers are looking for one thing…the key that Morgan obtained from the previous bounty hunter.

Morgan takes them both out and gave us pretty much the only action scene in the entire episode, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding this key.

The strangers don’t know who Virginia is so it’s safe to say that this key has nothing to do with her.

We’ll have to wait to find out more. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 6 episode 2: “Welcome to the Club”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 6 episode 2, I learned that reputation can proceed someone in a good way or a bad one.

Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In season 6 episode 2, “Welcome to the Club,” we check in with Victor and Alicia when Virginia decides to re-assign them to a new job. Meanwhile, old characters return and we learn a little bit more about what Virginia truly cares about.

My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 6 episode 2 are:

“I didn’t know you were here…”

Well, neither did I, but apparently Daniel is on the compound as well, giving out haircuts. It’s great to see Daniel getting back to his roots, but he seems to have suffered from some severe memory loss.

At first Victor suspects it is an act, but Daniel continues to tell him that he doesn’t know him…

So, is this really an act or is our good friend Daniel hatching a plan of his own?

“It’s time we started making the calls for ourselves.”

Victor has had enough and I can’t say I really blame him after he is stuck shoveling shit all day, but we know that Victor can sometimes get our group into trouble with his bold plans and ambition.

Meanwhile, we meet a new character named Dakota, who turns out to be Virginia’s sister and I have to say that whoever cast her did a great job. Virginia hasn’t really shown too many weaknesses, but this is definitely something our group can work to their advantage.

In the midst of all of this strategy, we also have the dangerous group of walkers dipped in molasses. It won’t be easy clearing them, but if anyone can get rid of them, it’s Alicia and Victor…especially since Alicia gets her weapon back.

My stomach did turn quite a few times after watching the walkers drag their “meals” underneath the door.

Gross!

“I don’t think we should risk it.”

Alicia proves to be the voice of reason during this episode and tries to talk Victor out of his plan, recognizing that they have the opportunity to turn the tables on Virginia by obtaining the weapon she has hidden beyond the door.

Victor seems hesitant, but he will not do anything to directly put Alicia in harm’s way, as he agrees for now.

“I need to forget who I am.”

After an extremely close call with the out of control walkers, Alicia is able to obtain some guns and Victor tosses his moral compass out the window when he leaves the cowardly Sanjay out to dry. He wounds Sanjay and the walkers feast on him, which gives the group enough time to eliminate them.

Victor explains that it was Sanjay’s decision, choosing not to inform the group about what really happened. This is not the first time we have seen Victor throw his morals away so we’ll have to see where this leads.

Meanwhile, Virginia arrives and we find out that there is no hidden weapon and all she wanted was to see a true leader emerge. She thinks that is Victor and hands him one of the “keys” we have been hearing so much about.

Victor needs to have an army ready for something, but we don’t really know what that is. Rather than cling to the people who mean the most to him, he decides to re-assign Alicia away from him, but he does hand her over the medallion, proving that he does truly care about her well-being.

Is this the right call? Will Victor go over to the dark side? I’m not sure, but it looks like we are splitting up too many characters again, which means we will probably not see Strand for several episodes now.

“Good to see you Morgan.”

At the very end of the episode, Daniel claims he left his scissors behind, which allows someone to whistle to get his attention. Morgan makes quite the entrance with his cowboy hat and takes out a walker in front of Daniel.

Daniel finally drops the act and tells Morgan it is good to see him so I guess my theory was right about these two teaming up to take down Virginia.

So, why did Daniel keep the act up in front of Charlie and the others? Where is Skidmark? I still have more questions, but I’m thinking he wants to keep the act up to protect everyone until the plan is completely ready.

I definitely want to see more of this tag team, but it looks like we will be checking in with Dwight in next week’s episode.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 6 episode 1: “The End Is the Beginning”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 6 episode 1 season premiere, I really had only one question on my mind: “Is Mr. Jones dead or alive?”

Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In season 6 episode 1, “The End Is the Beginning,” we confirm Morgan’s fate, but he’s not out of the woods just yet. New characters and threats emerge, as Morgan finds himself conflicted over his beliefs, but will he survive?

My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 6 episode 1 are:

“I’ve never seen them walk away from a meal.”

Enter Isaac, who seems to have perfect timing, as he helps save Morgan’s life. Isaac says that he is a former Marine and he also has some medical training, as he takes a look at Morgan’s condition.

Morgan still has the bullet inside him and the smell of gangrene is keeping the walkers away for now, which could come in handy.

But can we really trust a new stranger? At least we know Morgan is alive…for now. Phew!

“Is there something you’re not telling me?”

Surviving his bullet wound is not the only thing Morgan has to worry about as Virginia hires a bounty hunter named Josiah who is not afraid to take someone’s head with one swing of his axe. He keeps the heads in labeled boxes and delivers them with pride while his hound helps sniff out his bounty.

Morgan recognizes that Isaac’s timing is odd and he also seems to know a lot about him. Isaac explains that he used to work for Virginia’s team but Morgan’s tapes taught him that there was a better way. His main priority is to get back to his pregnant wife so he can help deliver their baby safely, but Morgan is keeping his guard up for sure.

“I’m right here.”

Morgan agrees to help Isaac reach his wife as they travel to a dried up lake, which might make a potential safe haven for his friends. Since the walkers can’t sense him, he decides to go through the crowd alone, but things don’t go according to plan as Isaac starts taking out walkers to help.

Morgan can easily turn around and keep walking, but he decides to shout out to the walkers that he’s right here, as the two make a pretty impressive tag team.

“I can’t be who they need me to be.”

Morgan and Isaac are able to reach their destination, but we learn that Isaac has been bitten, which means he is already dead. He explains that all he needed to do was get Morgan where he needed to be, but Morgan is still having doubts about his purpose after everything he has been through.

Josiah shows up with bad timing and we get this intense face-off between him and Morgan. Morgan is able to defeat him, but Josiah taunts him and tells him that he knows he doesn’t have it in him to end his life.

Well, so much for that, as Morgan takes Josiah’s head in one swift motion, sending his head on out to Virginia. Morgan also picks up the key that Josiah retrieved from his last bounty and there is a lot of mystery surrounding it already.

“Morgan Jones is dead and you are dealing with somebody else now.”

Virginia’s reaction is pretty interesting when she discovers Josiah’s head in Morgan’s box. She seems up for the challenge, but her threats don’t really seem to impact Morgan.

Isaac was able to successfully remove the bullet in Morgan’s chest before he passed, but it looks like Morgan is embracing a new identity now. I have to also mention that it was incredibly sweet that they named the baby after Morgan!

He abandons his staff and picks up Josiah’s axe instead, wearing the cowboy hat as well which gave me some bad-ass Rick Grimes vibes.

It looks like Morgan is going to go recruit some help to get his friends out of there and I have a feeling we will witness a tag team with him and Daniel…

Now that we know Morgan is all right, what about our other characters? It looks like we will catch up with them all soon and I am hoping that we abandon some of the fluff that took up the majority of the last two seasons and get back to the raw, wild vibe from the earlier seasons.

I think we have the potential to get there.

We don’t know who saved Morgan’s life initially or what is going on with these keys. We also don’t know who the men are spray painting the wall so it looks like we have quite a bit of set-up to keep us busy for a while.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 5 episode 15: “That’s a Bitter Sweet Thing”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 15, I realized that life is short and “if there’s things to say…you should say them.” There’s never really a right time and we may regret it for the rest of our lives if we don’t share these feelings. However, if we do share these inner thoughts or feelings, does it just ultimately make things harder in the end? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In last night’s episode, “Channel 5,” the group decides to challenge Virginia with…another documentary. Meanwhile, Grace’s health continues to deteriorate, John and June contemplate moving up their wedding date, and Wes seems interested in painting with Alicia. My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 15 are:

“This is the truth.”

In the beginning of the episode, we watch Virginia’s documentary, which seems a little bit too good to be true…even more so than our group’s initial documentary. We learn that members of Virginia’s group wear keys on their shirts because “each one of us holds the key to the future,” but it’s clear that Virginia is actually only interested in people who she considers to be “useful” to her cause, but where does that leave everyone else?

Al is infuriated by this and wants to get the real truth out there. Morgan reminds her that they are going about things the right way, but that doesn’t mean that the right way will win in the end.

“Everybody is useful.”

Tom is beyond thrilled to be reunited with his sister, Janice, who happens to be the girl Wes saved. What a small world! I need to give a shout out to my good friend, Luke on QuizUp, who predicted this last week. Nice job, Luke!

Tom is excited about the mission and really wants to get the story out there, as we are presented with another documentary style episode, which was kind of underwhelming for me. Luckily, we do get a little bit of action later in the episode, but we are at the end of the season and I’m starting to wonder what is going to happen to shake things up?

“That’s a bitter sweet thing…”

It looks like I’m not the only one shipping Morgan and Grace, as John decides to ask if anything is going on between them during the documentary. John recognizes that it will be difficult for Morgan and Grace either way and asks June how she feels about moving up their wedding date.

June seems to be on board and it looks like we will be able to put Rabbi Jacob to work as well. I love John and June together, but they may need to put things on hold now that Virginia is in the mix.

“I just want to be around long enough to see it.”

Grace is still holding on, but it doesn’t look like she is doing too well, as the group tries to go on a detour to get her more fluids. Morgan attempts to tell Grace how he feels, but she ultimately stops him and explains that it will be too difficult. While I want some kind of happiness for Morgan and Grace, I completely understand where she is coming from.

It just seems so unfair that Morgan has finally lifted the guard around his heart and now has to watch Grace die unless there is some miracle waiting for them in the near future. Fingers crossed!

“You call her, there’s no coming back.”

Toward the end of the episode, we deal with a bridge of our very own and Tom decides to do anything for the story, which includes going down with the bridge. Sorry Tom! Al is beyond upset, but somehow manages to have the tape? I’m not too sure about that, but the group decides to keep going.

Unfortunately Humbug’s Gulch is overrun by walkers and the group is forced to ultimately make that call over to Channel 5 to ask for Virginia’s help. It looks like Virginia got what she wanted, but what does this mean for our group now?

Overall, I was slightly disappointed and underwhelmed with the episode. We already tried out the documentary style in a previous episode and I’m not sure that we needed another one now. I’ve been waiting for some kind of substantial character death and instead, we get Tom losing his common sense on the bridge.

Alicia and Wes seem to be hitting it off, but she is so focused on painting and I want the beast within her to be unleashed again because once she gets going, she is unstoppable! Poor Luciana is off serving Virginia at the oil field and while Virginia seems like an interesting foe, I’m not sure that we can salvage things in one episode, but I’m remaining hopeful.

In last night’s episode, “Today and Tomorrow,” we catch up with Morgan and Al, as they try to help a stranger named Tom. Meanwhile, Daniel and Grace open up to one another and put on a show-stopping number. My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 14 are:

“All they cared about was the future…”

In this episode, we check in with Morgan and Al, who come across a man named Tom in need of some help. The horseback riders are trying to find him and Morgan and Al hide out with him in a van until they can come up with a suitable game plan. We learn that Tom was with his sister at Paradise Ridge, a co-op complex, but a group came to take it over, claiming that they just wanted to help as well.

Tom explains that all they cared about was the future, which triggers something within Al, as she remembers Isabelle telling her the same thing: “It’s not about today, it’s about tomorrow.” Al explains to Morgan that it’s not about the story for her and it’s clear that she desperately wants to see Isabelle again, hoping that this is somehow a connection.

“I trusted you with a lot.”

Morgan recognizes that Al is keeping something from him and reminds her that he has trusted her with a lot. Al agrees, but also asks Morgan why he left the compound and tells him that he’s running from something. Morgan has been running away from his developing feelings for Grace and perhaps Al’s decision to run toward a chance at seeing Isabelle will spark something within him, but is it too late for both of them?

“For a long time, he was all I had.”

We also take some time to catch up with Daniel and Grace during this episode. Even though Skidmark spends most of his time in a crate, Daniel opens up to Grace and tells her that Skidmark was all he had for a long time. He tells her that Charlie changed everything for him, which was incredibly heartwarming. Daniel lost his daughter, but I think he sees himself as a father figure to Charlie and I thought it was so sweet that he wanted to bring back some records for her.

Grace also takes this opportunity to confide in Daniel and tells him that she tried so hard to help Morgan. Daniel reminds Grace that she did get Morgan to smile and says that he thinks she did make a difference with him.

“You two sure know how to make an entrance.”

Thankfully we get some action, as Morgan and Al run into some trouble at the co-op complex and wind up going for a dip in the pool with a persistent walker. They are able to eliminate the threat, but are then surrounded by Virginia and her gang. Virginia fills them in on what she is trying to accomplish without revealing too many details, but she does give us an interesting food analogy with spaghetti.

Al asks her about the helicopters and Virginia tells her that they don’t have any, which means that Isabelle and her group are not connected to Virginia, so there goes that theory. Surprisingly, Virginia lets them head off and even gives Morgan a new stick, but what is her end goal here? She says her door is always open, but what happens when they actually accept her offer? I’m interested to find out for sure.

“I’d like to see that smile again…”

At the end of the episode, Morgan comes to the realization that he doesn’t need to record the tapes anymore about his family. He wants to talk to Grace now and in the present, but Grace’s health takes a dramatic turn for the worse after she and Daniel perform on stage. Morgan tells Grace that he is going to get to her in time and Grace tries to hold on to the hope that she will see him again.

It looks like we will see Grace in next week’s episode, as her health continues to deteriorate, but is there any way to save her? Now that Morgan is finally willing to open his heart in the present, I will be completely devastated if these two don’t get a chance to be together, but I know someone has to die… Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 5 episode 11: “You Made It Your Own”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 11, I realized that sometimes the universe may be trying to tell us something, but perhaps we need to see it for ourselves in order for it to truly resonate with us. Whether it’s a moment of self-reflection or a meaningful message, just taking that moment means that we are still here. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In last night’s episode, “You’re Still Here,” Alicia and Victor try to track down the person who painted the trees, but Alicia is not exactly sure what she is truly searching for. Meanwhile, Morgan and Al’s mission is interrupted when they run into Logan and his gang, as we start to learn more about his bigger plan. My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 11 are:

“I just know how I feel when I see those trees.”

In this episode, we catch up with Alicia and Victor. Alicia is still having trouble taking out walkers and she focuses her attention on tracking down the person who has been painting the messages on the trees. Victor asks Alicia what this is really going to do for her and Alicia is not exactly sure, but she recognizes that it is important.

Alicia says, “They see the world in a way I want to see it,” hoping that she can find the answers she is looking for by talking to this person. We know that Alicia’s encounter with the radioactive walker has traumatized her, but let’s hope that this mission can get her back on track because Victor is not always going to be around with perfect timing to help save her.

“You’re really gonna make me work for it, huh?”

Meanwhile, we also catch up with Morgan and Al in this episode. Morgan seems grateful for the distraction, but Al senses that something is up and tries to get Morgan to open up about it. Morgan initially tells Al that there is nothing to talk about, but this one-on-one talk is interrupted when Alicia calls them over the walkie for backup.

Later in the episode, Morgan does open up to Al and she reminds him that he can tell her about his wife and son. This is a huge step for Morgan and I am glad to see that he is finally willing to share something real and close to his heart with the people around him.

“What I’m doing is bigger than you.”

Is it though? Logan listens in on Alicia’s call out to Morgan and Al and shows up with the truck to get in Morgan’s way. Logan recognizes that they will not want to risk an innocent person’s life and asks him where the oil fields are. Morgan tries to ask Logan what he needs the gas for and we still don’t get a concrete answer here. Logan dances around the answer and tells him that he will be helping people, but not in a way Morgan would approve of…so what does that mean? Is Logan looking to blow something up? What is his real plan?

We still don’t know and at the end of the episode, Logan breaks into the vault, looking for Clayton’s journals, but is out of luck for now. Logan is getting a little bit too personal; however, as he taunts Morgan by telling him he couldn’t help his wife and son, which sparks some untapped anger within Morgan. Morgan is able to walk away from this, but Logan now has his tape, so it looks like he plans on using personal information about Morgan against him. How will this all play out? I’m not sure, but it doesn’t look like Logan is going away anytime soon.

“People are people.”

After having his own run-in with Logan in a previous episode, Wes is back and radios over to Alicia and Victor for help. Wes seems guarded, but does open up a little bit about his brother who died and Alicia attempts to form a connection with him. Wes reminds her that people are people and that they live in a world now where “we shoot, we kill.” Alicia tries to tell him that it doesn’t have to be this way, but is Wes truly ready to do what is right?

Wes is focused on getting back his manuscript, which is apparently good enough to die over so I’m intrigued, but when Alicia reads the very end, she discovers that Wes is the one who painted the trees. Will we see Wes again? I’m not sure, but I think that he is an interesting and unique character and I would like to see more of him.

“I’m not gonna find what I’m looking for from anybody else…”

Both Morgan and Alicia do a lot of self-reflecting in this episode. Al tells Morgan that “what we lost doesn’t define us” and suggests that maybe it’s about what we do. Meanwhile, Alicia takes a moment to paint her own tree and leaves the message: “No one’s gone until they’re gone,” which clearly touches Morgan.

It’s one thing to say something out loud, but when you see the words in front of you, they have the power to become something else. They inspire you and bring out something within you that perhaps you thought was lost a long time ago. They remind you that there is always the opportunity to do better and to start a new path.

At the very end of the episode, Alicia is able to kill a walker and tells Victor that she is good. I’m happy that she was able to find this strength within herself and I thought that the connection between her and Morgan was done beautifully, seamlessly connecting these two characters who are trying so hard to keep going. Let’s just hope that Logan doesn’t taint everything they have been trying to accomplish. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 5 episode 10: “Candy Beansies”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 10, I realized that sometimes knowing the truth isn’t necessarily better. We need to hold on to the belief that there is a tomorrow and make every day truly count. Whether that means following through on a promise or making someone smile, there are endless possibilities to make our days truly meaningful. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In last night’s episode, “210 Words Per Minute,” Morgan and Grace try to help someone named Chuck and wind up on an extreme escalator adventure at a shopping mall. Meanwhile, Dwight goes off on a dangerous mission of his very own and Morgan makes a tough decision. My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 10 are:

“We’re not doing careful. We’re doing right.”

That may be, but Dwight seems to be a little bit more worried about Logan and his men than Morgan. Dwight has been there before with the Saviors and realizes that Logan and his people may not see the good they are trying to do, but Morgan is going to keep helping others no matter what.

We know that Logan wants gas and he wants to find out where the oil fields are, but we still don’t understand his full agenda just yet. We’ve had a lot of setup for Logan and I’m anxious to find out what he truly has planned for our favorite characters.

“Someone gave me a second chance and it’s the same chance I’m giving you.”

Dwight decides to head off on his own mission and anticipates that one of Logan’s men will follow him. Dwight doesn’t get too much information out of the man, but things get a little intense when the man starts burning one of Sherry’s letters. Dwight could have easily taken a route of revenge here, but he gives the man a chance instead and decides to let him go, proving that he is really taking a leap of faith here.

Is it the right call? I’m not so sure, but I think this was an important step for Dwight as a character and you can tell that he is truly trying to change. Sometimes you just need to take one step at a time, but I’m curious to see what Dwight does next. I’m really glad he is getting the opportunity to shine on Fear TWD, similar to Morgan.

“Give me the chance to do something real while I can.”

So, I have been interested in Grace’s character for a while now and I’m really glad that we finally got the chance to learn more about her in this episode. Morgan agrees to help Grace get to the Urgent Care in the shopping mall so that she can determine how sick she is after she faints in the beginning of the episode. This leads to some beyond adorable moments between these two, as we actually get to witness Morgan smile!

Morgan is amused that Grace thinks jelly beans are called “candy beansies,” but he also has a blast using a remote control car to lure away the walkers in the mall. After initially hesitating, Morgan does open up, sharing some stories about his son and his own remote control car and Grace talks about her past as well. It’s hard to deny the spark forming between these two, but is Morgan truly ready to embrace a chance at happiness for himself?

“It’s perfect…”

After an intense close call with the walkers on the escalator, Morgan and Grace discover that Chuck is still alive. Chuck made it to the rooftop, just wanting to see the stars one last time and Grace is able to make that happen with a projection since it is a cloudy night. Chuck thinks it is perfect and is beyond grateful that they answered his call for help.

This moment was important because you could truly see that what Morgan and the others are doing matters. This moment also impacts Grace, as she realizes that every single day counts and perhaps she doesn’t have to be scared of starting something she may not be able to finish after all. Although, listening to A Tale of Two Cities in its entirety is quite the challenge.

“That’s being alive…really alive.”

After the encounter with Chuck, Grace realizes that she doesn’t want to find out how sick she is and decides that she is “just going to believe there’s more than today.” Morgan reminds her how brave she is and the two of them share a beyond sweet moment together on the carousel. I have to say that this may be one of my favorite moments on the show, as Morgan finally lets go and reveals a glimmer of happiness.

Only later on, Morgan realizes that perhaps he isn’t ready to move on and decides to head off to find Al instead of going along with Grace. Is it because he still feels guilty over his wife and son or is it because he feels that he simply doesn’t deserve a chance at happiness right now? I’m not sure, but when Morgan drives away with tears in his eyes, I was crying my eyes out. So incredibly heartbreaking!

Is there any hope for Morgan and Grace? I’m not so sure, but I thought this was a really touching episode. Oh and PS, Dwight getting a haircut from Daniel was everything! Stay tuned!

My performance of the week ending 8/17/19 on TV goes to…

Lennie James as Morgan Jones on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. One of the best things to happen to the Fear TWD series was to have Lennie James join the cast. Part of what makes Morgan so essential to the series is that someone who was previously lost and alone has now become the leader of the group. He touches the lives of each character in one way or another and he continues to see the good in the world, even when it may seem like there is none left. Please note some spoilers are ahead.

In season 5, Morgan has continued his mission of helping others in need, trying to do one good deed at a time. It is inspiring, but I have been more moved by Morgan’s self-reflection, understanding that perhaps he needs to help himself as well, which is easier said than done. It often seems like Morgan is always keeping busy so that he does not have to deal with his own inner pain and that comes out more in season 5, episode 9.

After Morgan risks his life to help a woman and child, Morgan is the one who needs saving and he has to put his full trust in someone else. When Morgan opens up later in the episode, he finally starts talking about his own grief, realizing that he never truly said goodbye to his wife and son and that he doesn’t know how to.

This moment of sheer honesty and vulnerability really elevated Morgan’s character in my opinion. He’s always in motion and he tries to help those around him, but he finally takes a second to talk about what he needs to do and how he is feeling.

What’s next for Morgan? We’ll have to wait and see, but it will be interesting to find out what happens when he faces off with Logan. Morgan is not to be underestimated, but is he able to do what is truly necessary to survive? We have seen Morgan in similar situations before where he continues to try and fight for someone, even when they have shown their true colors again and again.

You have to admire Morgan’s willingness to continue to see that tiny sliver of goodness, but you also have to wonder if it will ultimately be his downfall. Either way, Morgan is a true leader and he is so inspiring. I love watching his interactions with every character and my favorite friendship is his one with Alicia.

Morgan sees so much of himself in Alicia and I love that he is doing everything he can to help her, reminding us that family is about more than blood. Morgan may have lost his own family, but he has the opportunity to save his new family and you can’t help rooting for him. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
