Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 5 episode 13: “Hard to get Bigger than That”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 13, I realized that “together we can get from yesterday to tomorrow,” but what happens when that concept of togetherness starts to break off into separate pieces?  Sometimes we are forced to stand alone in order to protect what we believe in, but is it truly possible to keep that sense of togetherness going when there is always something or someone threatening its potential?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.

In last night’s episode, “Leave What You Don’t,” we get a glimpse into Logan’s past, while Sarah tries to make things right in the present.  Meanwhile, Alicia and Victor attempt to help a girl in need and end up getting some unexpected assistance.  My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 13 are:

5

“Maybe you’ll actually remember what you used to believe.”

In this episode, we learn a little bit more about Logan and take a peek into his past.  We witness Logan as “Desert Fox” trying to reach Clayton (Polar Bear) when a young woman asks for help at a truck stop by mile marker 65.  Clayton doesn’t respond and Logan does his best to make it there in time, but his truck runs out of gas.  Logan goes the rest of the way on foot and tries to keep the woman over the Walkie hopeful, but he is forced to listen to her get torn apart by walkers and is too late.

Logan is devastated and it’s clear that this is the moment that broke his vision about helping others.  When Logan tries to take over the oil field in the present, he tells Luciana that he does remember, but that it’s all about survival of the fittest now.  I thought this glimpse into Logan’s past was necessary, but we still didn’t get a concrete answer on what his new vision is now, telling Luciana and the others that they wouldn’t be able to handle it and now I’m not sure we’ll ever know…

4

“What’s the point of having gas if we can’t use it to help people?”

A valid point for sure, Alicia, but I have to say that Alicia is getting quite good at painting those trees and I happen to like the phoenix design as well!  Alicia and Victor get a call over the radio from a woman trapped in a truck stop.  When they try to reach out to some of their friends, it seems like everyone is off doing their own thing, which means we probably have some more filler episodes coming our way to fill in those blanks…except we are getting pretty close to the end of the season.

Either way, Alicia and Victor try to make it in time, but will they be able to save her?

3

“I figured I should pay it forward.”

After Alicia and Victor run out of gas, it looks like the girl at the truck stop is not going to make it, but luckily Wes is there to save the day!  Yay!  Remember Wes?

Well it looks like Alicia had an impact over him after all, as he hears the call over the radio and tries to do his part.  Oh and he likes the phoenix too so it looks like there may be some sparks flying between him and Alicia.

I was really interested in Wes’s character when we first met him and I’m happy that he had a change of heart.  I’m looking forward to finding out more about him and it looks like the kindness of the group is spreading, but is it enough?

2

“We help people.  They help people.  Hard to get bigger than that.”

So I’ve been a fan of Sarah for a while now and she is always the one to break the tension with some humor, but she really showed us a different side in this episode and I thought it was really important for her character development.  Logan reminded Sarah that she was the reason why this all happened because she left Clayton to die when she stole his truck and that’s why he never answered Logan on the radio.

Sarah explains that she thinks about that every single day and she truly tries to make amends when she goes back to save Logan when the walkers start crashing the party, literally falling right into the oil fields one by one.  While I love Sarah’s humor, I really enjoyed seeing this other side of her and it honestly made me like her that much more.

1

“That sounds like a deal to me…”

Everything comes full circle for Logan when he realizes that the girl Alicia is trying to help is also at the truck stop at mile marker 65 and he thinks that the only answer is for her to use the one bullet left in his gun to end it all.  When Wes shows up to save her, Logan has a change of heart and I was starting to think that everyone was going to start singing Kumbaya or something.  Fear not; however, as we do get a necessary twist.

Logan tells his people to put his guns down, but he gets shot and killed, along with the rest of his followers.  We meet a new group, the Pioneers, led by a woman named Virgina…although apparently you can call her Ginny.  Logan encountered these ladies on horseback in his past, but they show up with perfect timing to shake things up.  Virginia explains that Logan was no longer essential and says that she has been paying attention to what our group has been doing, revealing that she thinks they can help each other.

Before things get too crazy, Luciana volunteers as tribute and offers to stay behind to make the gas for them.  So who are the Pioneers?

I’m not really sure what to make of this new group of villains just yet, but it’s about time something happened.  What are YOUR theories on this new group?  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4 episode 16 season finale: “We’re Coming For You”

Happy Tuesday TV fans!  After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 16 season finale, I think that John Dorie got it absolutely right when he says that “Some fish in this world you can’t catch no matter what you dangle in front of them.”  So do you leave them be or do you keep trying, even though you know what the outcome might be?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “…I Lose Myself,” we catch up with Al and witness her struggle to escape the walkers who are surrounding her at the parking garage at every corner.  Meanwhile, Morgan makes the decision to go after Martha alone, promising his friends that he will catch up to them, but they are all in for a threat that no one saw coming.  My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 16 season finale are:

5

“I want you to give him a message.”

In the beginning of the episode, Al is surrounded by walkers and ends up in a parking garage near the hospital.  Al tries to get a message to Morgan and the others over the Walkie, but is not able to get through to them.  Martha catches up to Al; however, and unleashes poor zombie Jimbo on her, but Al is able to stop the immediate threat on her life.  However, she hesitates when faced against Martha, who knocks her out.  Martha later tells Al that she thinks she is strong and that she watched her tape.  She uses Al as a message for Morgan and includes a tape of her very own for him.  Even though Al is strong, she does still hold on to her humanity, which is the main reason why she hesitated when it came to eliminating Martha.  Luckily Al is all right for now, but that was a close call for sure.  Great to have you back Al!

4

“Leave them be.”

John Dorie gives Morgan some really strong advice about what to do about Martha, but Morgan insists on trying anyway.  During the entire season, I have been very touched by the strong friendship between John and Morgan.  John later radios out to Morgan that he is the strongest person he knows, remembering that he was there when Morgan was at his breaking point.  John may be the first person who really got through to Morgan after he left Alexandria and has become a strong motivator for him now.  John is a true believer and even though his own faith has been tested, he stays true to his positivism, which is infectious to everyone around him…in a good way.

3

“Have you seen the movie selection here?”

John and June finally have a moment together when they are browsing the shelves at the truck stop.  This gives June a sense of nostalgia and John teasingly comments that the movie selection is a bit lacking, however.  June finally opens up to John and lets her guard down, explaining that she was afraid that he would realize that she wasn’t who he thought she was.  John touches our hearts and souls when he says, “I know you.  Doesn’t take a whole day to recognize sunshine.”  As corny as it may sound, it is so true to who John Dorie is and you can’t help but smile here and cheer when these two finally embrace and share a passionate kiss.  It’s about time you two!

2

“You either kill me or I kill you.”

After watching Martha’s message, Morgan decides to go after her alone.  Morgan explains that he understands Martha because he used to be her.  He further reveals that she thinks killing is the only way, which is something that still haunts Morgan now.  Martha is severely injured and Morgan offers to help her.  He finds her at mile marker 54, lying next to her husband’s grave and Martha does open up to Morgan about her husband in the police car.  Martha reveals just a sliver of hope here, but she refuses to let Morgan make her be weak.  When Morgan tries to hand her the medicine, she attacks him and the car is run off the road.  Martha has been given so many chances, but Morgan is still not able to end her life.  Even after being badly injured himself, he tells himself that he has to keep going, especially when he learns that Martha has poisoned his friends by putting antifreeze in the drinking water.  Morgan comes very close to killing Martha, but spots the reflection of “I lose people…I lose myself,” written on his forehead.  Even though it was not Martha’s intention, this actually saved her life, as it was a reminder to Morgan about who he was before and who he can still be now.  Morgan chooses life and desperately tries to make it to his friends on foot before it’s too late.

1

“Hang in there.  We’re coming for you.”

Morgan finally gets through to his friends over the Walkie and June reveals that they need ethanol to counteract the antifreeze poisoning.  Luckily there is a truck filled with it right outside.  Seems simple enough, right?  Well we know that nothing comes easy on Fear TWD.  The group does a fantastic job of distracting the walkers and making it to the truck and Al unleashes her fury on the horde by opening fire on them.  Unfortunately, the truck begins leaking out the ethanol they need and it looks like all hope is lost.  Just when it seems like they are all running out of time for good, Morgan heroically shows up with Jim’s old beer truck, ready to help save his friends.  Sarah comments that Jimbo has saved their lives twice now.  Morgan eliminated walker Jimbo back at the police car, but hopefully he can rest in peace knowing that he truly did save his friends.  In a heartwarming moment, Victor also opens up to Alicia and is happy to finally have a new drinking partner, realizing that Madison would want it to be this way.  Morgan does ultimately head back to check on Martha and discovers her bloody arm hanging from the cuff.  Walker Martha is stumbling down the street and Morgan eliminates her as a threat once and for all.  So long Martha.  I can’t say that we’ll miss you.  Everyone is ready to head off to Virginia, but Morgan decides that he doesn’t want to go there anymore and takes them to the Denim Factor that “Polar Bear,” otherwise known as Clayton, used.  Morgan explains that no one is being forced to stay, but that they can truly do something great here.  Alicia adds that they can build this into something more and that’s how you help people, truly trying to reestablish her mother’s vision.  They decide to start with the tapes and find people out there who need their help, allowing Clayton’s work to continue on, holding on to the hope that there is still good in the world.  Even though it seems like they are surrounded by death and despair, Morgan and the others have learned the importance of helping others and that it does matter.  At the end of the episode, Morgan tells anyone who may be listening, “Hang in there.  We’re coming for you,” hopefully sparking the belief in anyone who may have lost their way.  The season finale ends on a positive note, rather than a major cliffhanger, which was actually refreshing.  The whole concept of helping others has been present during season 4 and this was the perfect way to honor that and inspire hope in fans everywhere that Morgan Jones and the rest of the group will continue to try and bring some life back into the world…one box at a time.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own theories and thoughts on Fear the Walking Dead in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Among these characters is Ches, a gorgeous vampire with a conflicted conscience, who becomes Kallie’s guide and blossoming love interest. Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4 episode 14: “I Just Need Something To Be Good”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 14, Wendell reminded us that “bad shit happens when you try to help people,” but that doesn’t mean that you need to give up on others even if they have given up on you.  While we can understand the actions and motives of others, it takes true strength and courage to be able to continue to help, especially when we know that others may not do the same in return.  So do we become like everyone else or do we continue to do good deeds in the world even if there is no one left to appreciate it?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet.  In last night’s episode, “MM 54,” we learn that the mysterious lady villain is named Martha and we witness how she started down her dark path of destruction.  Meanwhile, Morgan tries to protect the group, Jim kills his first walker, and Alicia tries to keep her promise to Charlie.  My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 14 are:

5

“I don’t help and neither do you.”

In the beginning of the episode, we are at mile marker 54 and witness the lady villain, Martha, in a car with her husband.  Her husband has been injured severely and is losing a lot of blood, but Martha tries to stay positive and frantically waves at cars passing them by.  “Someone will help us.  Someone will come.”  Only the reality of her situation sets in all too quickly, as no one bothers to stop and help her.  Martha encounters a walker and takes it out and watches her husband die.  She eliminates the threat when he turns and buries his body.  In a heartbreaking moment, Martha lies down next to the fresh grave, feeling helpless and weak.  We also witness her pacing back and forth and talking to herself as well, as she encounters an emotional or psychotic break.  Later on, we see one of the trucks stop by the road to leave a box and Martha viciously kills the woman.  She continues on her journey and takes out many of the volunteers, trying to get closer and closer to “polar bear,” the man who started it all.  We also finally witness how Martha intercepted Morgan’s radio call when she hears him at the truck stop and initially thinks he could be the infamous “polar bear.”  While we witness the creation of a villain before our very eyes, it is truly heartbreaking to see that Martha was once a good and loving person.  Is it too late for her to be redeemed, however?

4

“I didn’t agree with their code of conduct.”

Morgan and the others seek out shelter at a nearby hospital after Martha opens fire on their truck.  The truck explodes and there is a large group of walkers headed their way, leaving not much room for error.  June wants to ensure that those who are hurt are all right and Wendell is down a wheelchair as well.  Luckily, they are able to catch their breath for a little while and Wendell gets a new set of wheels.  During this time, we learn more about Wendell and Sarah’s past.  Wendell reveals that he saw a car coming and pushed someone out of the way to save them.  Even though he had a hard life ahead of him, Wendell thought it was his purpose to help other people.  When he tried to join the Marines, the recruiter laughed him out of the office, refusing to even take his application.  Sarah revealed to Al that she was in the Marines, but she left not on the best of terms.  We later learn that Sarah left because of what they did to her brother, Wendell.  While Al does not have her camera with her, the stories of others are still important to share, as we get to know Sarah and Wendell a little bit better.  While they initially seemed only selfish, we now understand more about them and realize that they are good people deep down.  They may be flawed and confused, but they are slowly coming around to doing the right thing.

3

“She’ll find a way up here.”

Morgan is nervous about staying in the hospital for too long and before he knows it, the walkers get in and all hell breaks loose.  Morgan quickly makes the decision for everyone to head upstairs, but the stairs are blocked on several entrances, filled with the dead.  Sarah and Al make their way up to the generator to get the elevator started, which is their only hope at this point.  Al makes the courageous decision to go alone and tells Sarah to get back to her brother, proving once again that she is a hero in the making.  Al gets the elevator started in just the nick of time and everyone makes it to the roof, but Al is left behind.  While they cannot get through to her on the radio, Luciana says, “She’s smart.  She’s resourceful.  She’ll find a way up here.”  Al has spent so much time hiding behind her camera and the stories of others and she is now creating a story of her very own, getting very much involved and putting her life on the line to save others.  Let’s hope that she will find a way out of there safely.

2

“He asked for my help.  To save him.”

When the walkers break in, Jim gets his first real encounter with one and begs Morgan to help him.  Only Morgan is a little busy fending off several at that point and tells Jim to hold on.  Jim is pinned to the floor and manages to finally kill one, realizing now how difficult this truly is.  Jim has survived all this time by avoiding situations like this and even contemplated running ahead of the group to safety, but ultimately had a change of heart and stayed with everyone.  However, Jim has been very quick to place the blame on Morgan whenever things don’t go their way.  When they get on the rooftop, June takes a look at his cut and discovers a bite mark on Jim.  Jim is beyond devastated and says, “I have beer to make,” refusing to accept his fate.  June explains that there is nothing she can do and is not sure how much time he has left.  I have to admit that I am sad to see Jim be on his way out so quickly.  I feel like there is still so much more potential for his character, but perhaps he will finally get to do something truly heroic and courageous to give his final moments a sense of purpose.  While making beer is clearly something he is passionate about, I feel like Jim still has a lot left in him to discover.  Let’s just hope he can realize it before he’s gone for good.  Morgan clearly feels guilty about Jim and says to June, “He asked for my help.  To save him.”  June reminds him that “You did.  As long as you could.”  June asks him what’s next and if he can get them out of here.  Morgan initially says that he can’t, but June tells him that he will, still believing in Morgan.

1

“I just need something to be good.”

During the episode, we see Alicia and Charlie, who make their way to the truck that Morgan was on.  Alicia sees all of the destruction and tells Charlie that they could be in any direction.  As they get further and further away, passing mile markers 103 and 108, Charlie asks where they are going and Alicia informs her that she is taking her to the beach, desperately trying to keep her promise to her.  Alicia explains that “we only have right now and who knows how long we’ll have that.  It’s one thing I know I can do.”  This moment is important for Alicia because she is trying so hard to do something good to keep the memory of her mother alive, clinging to any glimmer of hope she can find.  Charlie tries to tell Alicia that they should go back to help their friends.  While Alicia clearly wants to help Morgan and the others, she recognizes the uncertainty of their well-being.  Alicia can’t handle anything uncertain right now, as she needs to be able to deliver something good to help Charlie.  Alicia and Charlie soon come across water and find a place that was not on the map.  Charlie exclaims that it is a beach and they find John Dorie’s black hat in the water.  Charlie tells Alicia to look and she exclaims, “Holy shit!”  While we don’t know what she sees, it’s safe to say that they may have just found John and Victor.  Perhaps this is a sign that will remind Alicia that it’s all right to take chances to help those in need.  While Alicia may never completely heal, she is starting to mend her broken soul and being reunited with Victor may be enough to restore her faith again.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own theories and thoughts on Fear the Walking Dead in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
