Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Walking Dead” season 9 episode 10: “I am Alpha”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching AMC’s The Walking Dead season 9 episode 10, I realized that sometimes we desperately want to see the good in someone and ignore all the signs around us.  Perhaps that person has the potential to be good, but sometimes other forces get in the way.  And when that other force is your mother, you don’t really have a choice…or do you?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Omega,” Henry continues to grow closer to Lydia, while Daryl keeps a watchful eye on them.  Meanwhile, the new arrivals try to sneak out and find Luke and the Whisperers make their presence known.  My top 5 moments from The Walking Dead season 9 episode 10 are:

5

“She’s a liar.”

During the episode, Tara and some of the newcomers come across horses that have been half skinned, which have caught the attention of a hungry walker horde.  Tara and the others recognize that they had been with Luke and Alden, realizing that their friends have gone missing.  Tara does not want to do anything rash that might get someone killed and suggests that they go back and plan what to do next, especially since they don’t know if they can trust Lydia.  The leadership role is new for Tara, even though she has been there through it all, but I appreciate that she is honest and to the point.  The newcomers decide to sneak out and try and find Luke, which is dangerous after dark.  Tara later explains that she would have preferred that they had simply come to her, proving that she has the potential to become a true leader of the people, but is she ready to make the hard choices when they come up?

4

“Can you stay with me tonight?”

So, the creepy budding romance between Henry and Lydia continues in this episode.  Henry believes that Lydia is a good person and it appears that Lydia may be warming up to him, although her idea of a romantic evening out includes eating dirt and worms.  I mean, “hunger is a gift,” after all.  Daryl has been listening in on the conversation, which upsets Henry.  He feels used, but Daryl tries to make him understand that Lydia could be dangerous and that they need to find out as much Intel as they can.  After contemplating taking a hammer to Henry on their journey outside the cell, Lydia freaks out when she hears a baby crying and has second thoughts, begging Henry to take her back to the cell.  Henry seems really eager to connect, but I wonder what Carol will think when she finds out what is going on.  Either way, my “dumb ass Henry” comments continued throughout this episode and I am not shipping these two whatsoever.

3

“You don’t know shit about me.”

Daryl recognizes the marks on Lydia’s arm and realizes that she has been abused, which is something that Daryl has dealt with in his own past.  Lydia recognizes that Daryl doesn’t really belong either, but Daryl does not want to reveal anything about himself to her.  Daryl insists that they are changing the world back, but does he truly believe that this is possible?  Daryl has shown glimmers of belonging and he can be extremely loyal, but he also does well on his own, which may make him doubt himself.  Has he really grown soft or is he prepared to do what is necessary to protect the people he cares about?

2

“I knew what she was…I knew what she did.”

During the episode, we get a glimpse into Lydia’s past, which starts out at Day 23.  Lydia is around five years old and she has to deal with a lot of trauma growing up.  Both Lydia’s mother and father begin showing signs of cabin fever, as they remain inside for days upon days.  Lydia initially remembers her father being killed by a walker, but later reveals that it was her mother who killed him.  Lydia’s mother starts off seeming strong, but she later shaves her head and reveals just how dangerous she could be, warning others to shut their mouths, explaining where the concept of “The Whisperers” comes from.  Lydia tells Daryl and Henry that when someone is left behind, the group simply moves forward, but is any of it true?  Can Lydia really be trusted at all here?  While I sympathize with her traumatic past, that’s really all she knows and intimidation and fear can motivate someone to do almost anything.

1

“We only want one thing from you…my daughter.”

Overall, there was not too much action going on in this episode.  However, the last few minutes were bone-chilling and had me on the edge of my seat.  The Whisperers approach the gates and Lydia’s mother steps forward without her mask.  She introduces herself as “Alpha” and tells them that they want her daughter back.  In the preview for next week’s episode, Alpha eerily states, “wrong answer” when Daryl says that they aren’t going to give her back.  What will the Whisperers do to get her back?  Are our survivors prepared for a war?  Where are Luke and Alden?  I think we need Carol to return as soon as possible and it looks like we will see her next week, as I would personally love to see a face-off between Carol and Alpha.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own theories and thoughts on The Walking Dead below in the comments section.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “SMILF” season 2 episode 4: “It Only Has To Work Once”

Greetings TV viewers!  After watching Showtime’s SMILF season 2, episode 4, I realized that “there’s something about Bridgette Bird.”  Sure, she may be a little quirky, but it’s important that she recognizes who she is and stays true to herself.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In tonight’s episode, “So Maybe I Look Feminine,” Bridgette has a busy day planned, as she tries to tackle her to-do list.  Meanwhile, Nelson invites Bridgette to the salon, which leads to some temptation and fantasy along the way.  My top 5 moments from SMILF season 2 episode 4 are:

5

“You’re the one that should shush.”

In the beginning of the episode, Rafi and Nelson arrive at Bridgette’s apartment to pick Larry up for a fun weekend.  Bridgette is thrown off when Nelson shushes Larry while on the phone.  Bridgette is very protective of Larry and she wants him to feel loved wherever he goes, but she chooses not to confront Nelson in this very moment.  However, she does point out to herself that Nelson is the one that should really shush.

4

“Rollin with the homies…”

After trying to tackle her to-do list, Bridgette takes Nelson up on her offer and joins her and her friend at the salon.  After flipping through some hairstyle choices a la Britney Spears and Brittany Murphy, Nelson decides she will be going with the Brittany Murphy look and her and her friend break out into a tear-filled “rollin with the homies” to honor Brittany’s classic performance in one of my favorite films of all time, Clueless

3

“I think you should consider going blonde.”

While waiting for her stylist, Bridgette meets a bride to be, played by Ari Graynor, and the two bond over some eyeliner tips.  The woman suggests that Bridgette goes blonde, which allows us to see Bridgette’s fantasy world complete with an adorable polka dot ensemble, while watching a polo match.  Bridgette actually looks really fabulous with her blonde hair, but we quickly learn that it has somehow transformed her entire life, which I’m not sure is really possible, but sometimes we all need a change in our look here and there.

2

“Is that Kevin Bacon on a horse?”

I mean, Bridgette’s fantasy would not be complete without Kevin Bacon showing up on a horse.  After all, Hollow Man is her favorite film.  Later on, Bridgette crosses paths with Kevin Bacon, who offers to “finger bang” her.  However, he does not want to do this in front of his horse, Peggy, named after Pegasus.  After the act is complete, Kevin asks Bridgette to dinner, who is beyond thrilled to accept.

1

“I missed you today.”

After the encounter with Kevin, Bridgette confronts Nelson about shushing Larry and Ari Graynor’s character ends up getting brutally hit in the face with a polo ball.  There is blood everywhere and Bridgette repeatedly asks, “Will someone help her?”  Bridgette spots a mannequin dressed like her former self in a t-shirt and shorts with brown hair, reminding her who she really is.  This moment snaps Bridgette back to reality, as she is now staring in the mirror at her messy brown hair and makes the decision not to go to the salon.  Bridgette is beyond thrilled to see Larry return, reminding her what’s truly important to her.  Stay tuned for more SMILF fun!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts on SMILF below in the comments section.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Shameless” season 9 episode 11: “The Hobo Games”

Happy Sunday TV fans!  After watching Showtime’s Shameless season 9 episode 11, I realized that you may train and train for your moment in the spotlight, but you should never underestimate the power of social media.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In tonight’s episode, “The Hobo Games,” Frank makes it into the final round of competition to become the Hobo Loco Man, but Ingrid tries to make him choose between the game and her.  Meanwhile, Fiona’s behavior does not improve, Carl gets promoted at work, and Debbie grows closer to Kelly.  My top 5 moments from Shameless season 9 episode 11 are:

5

“I’m pregnant.”

In this episode, Tami keeps Lip at a distance and even blows him off when she is supposed to take him and Xan to their meeting.  Lip finally tracks Tami down and she reveals that she is pregnant, which shocks Lip.  Lip has a lot of things going on in his life right now, but he would absolutely be there to support Tami.  But does she want his help?  We’ll have to stay tuned to find out, but I’m really hoping that Tami doesn’t shut Lip out because these two are adorable together.

4

“Why is that my scrotum’s fault?”

An excellent question, Kev.  V wants Kev to get a vasectomy, especially since their two children are threatening any other kids that live in their home.  Kev is hesitant about this and even calls “bullshit on vasectomies,” but V means business.  After hearing another patient screaming, Kev decides to pretend that he had the surgery and ends up spending the day “masturbating” and “learning the dance in Fortnite,” while high on his pain medication.  V gets a call at work and finds out that Kev never had the surgery and she reminds him that he will be going back there to complete it.  I guess it was worth a shot, Kev.

3

“Girl’s day!”

Debbie begins to grow closer to Kelly and explores her desires further.  Carl is not pleased by this, as he is not looking to compete over his girlfriend with his sister.  Debbie and Kelly have a fun water fight outside that Carl’s new co-workers are impressed by, but Carl reminds Debbie that Kelly is not a lesbian.  Will she give up on her new crush?  We’ll have to wait and see, but the “girl’s day” was a blast to watch for sure.

2

“I’m not quitting this!”

Frank and Mikey O. make it to the last round of the Hobo Loco Man competition and Frank is ready to win his $50,000 grand prize.  After testing his blood alcohol content, he is told that his “blood is basically jet fuel,” but Frank has been training for this moment for quite some time.  In the end, Frank is slightly distracted when Ingrid tries to get him to leave and Mikey O. and him both miss jumping on the train.  Frank assumes that he will still get a prize, but we learn that the default winner is chosen by how many social media fans someone has and Gloria takes the top prize.  I mean, she did end up going topless for her fans, which shows dedication and commitment.  Ingrid also makes the decision to leave with Randy, so it looks like Frank is left with nothing.  Sorry Frank, my money was on you!

1

“I want you out of this f*cking house.”

In the beginning of the episode, Fiona wakes up in a random hotel room and stoops to a new low, when she steals some Oxy to make a few extra bucks.  We find out that Deb did pay her bail to get her out of jail, but Fiona still needs to pay her fair share.  Later in the episode, Fiona is caught off guard during an unannounced home check to determine if Xan can stay there.  Lip is upset and Fiona tries to track him down to make things right, but she ends up having a drink and talking about her problems with Lip’s sponsee, Jason.  Fiona pours him a drink, which causes Jason to call up his dealer, ending his 100 days of being sober.  Lip is beyond angry at Fiona.  Fiona tries to explain that she didn’t know, but Lip tells her that she simply didn’t care to and that he wants her out of the house.  Fiona is shocked and hurt by Lip’s words, but will it be enough to help her get back on track?  There are only three episodes left this season and I am still wondering how Fiona will leave the show.  I’m really hoping that Jimmy comes back to take her away and help her, so that we get a happy ending, similar to Ian being reunited with Mickey, but there are endless possibilities.  Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts on Shameless below in the comments section.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

My performance of the week ending 2/16/19 on TV goes to…

Henry Ian Cusick as Dr. Jonas Lear on The Passage.  Dr. Lear is a good man deep down, but he has made some dangerous decisions out of desperation and love.  Henry Ian Cusick has embodied a character that we can truly sympathize with, as we learn more about his connected past to Dr. Fanning each week.  While he may have already changed the world, it’s never too late to try and do the right thing.  As a fan of Henry Ian Cusick on both Lost and The 100, I was hoping that I would be able to connect to his new character on The Passage and I am impressed so far.  What’s next for Dr. Lear?  We’ll have to stay tuned to find out, but it looks like he has some beyond difficult decisions to make.

Stay tuned for a recognized performance on TV each week!

Ranking the top 5 villains from “Angel”

Happy Wednesday TV Fans!  For today, I have returned to one of my old favorites, Angel, as I am currently on the last season of my re-watch.  I have such an appreciation for this spin-off series of Buffy, as it really was not afraid to dive deeper into the darkness that exists all around us.  Angel Investigations had a mission to “help the helpless” and they did run into their fair share of villains along the way.  However, they faced some demons they never saw coming, some evil foes from their past, and even villains among each other.

These villains became worthy opponents who continued to threaten our beloved characters and the world.  Each villain was unique and terrifying in their own way, but they continuously challenged Angel.  Whether they used the law and corruption to further their agenda or just smashed everything in sight, they deserve a spot in my top 5.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the series yet. My top 5 villains from Angel are:

5

Holtz collage

Holtz

Daniel Holtz is a vampire hunter from Angel’s past and he made a deal with a demon named Sahjan so that he could get his revenge on Angel and Darla.  Holtz is the main villain in season 3 and returns from a state of suspended animation to take out “Angelus” once and for all.  Holtz learns that the vampire he knew from long ago is now with a soul, but he still wants to make him suffer.  Angelus killed Holtz’s family and Holtz wants to even the score.

He is a formidable villain because he successfully takes away the one thing that Angel truly cares about.  He doesn’t kill Angel’s son, but he abducts him and takes him to another dimension with the help of Wesley’s betrayal.  Angel’s son, Connor, ends up growing up in another dimension and is raised by Holtz.  Holtz continues to manipulate this love and even has his right hand partner in crime, Justine, kill him so it looks like Angel did it.

Holtz wants to ensure that Angel’s son will hate him for the rest of time, which is a revenge that would hurt Angel more than any other type of torture thrown his way.  Holtz was contemplative in his plan and truly impacted Angel, proving to be a villain worthy of my top 5 for sure.

4

The beast collage

The Beast

The Beast is a nearly unstoppable demon that emerges in season 4.  When Cordelia returns to earth, she has visions about this particular demon, which seems to be connected to Connor somehow.  The Beast is very powerful and Angel has a tough time fighting him.  The Beast begins killing members of the “Ra-Tet” to successfully banish the sun.  The Beast is all about destruction, but we eventually learn that his strings are being pulled by Jasmine, who has taken over Cordelia’s body.

Even though The Beast is not a master manipulator, he is powerful enough to hurt everyone in his path, including Faith, who tries to help bring back Angel once he is turned into Angelus.  The Beast was a villain made for nightmares and he definitely gave me some during my re-watch and he may have been Angel’s toughest opponent when it comes to combat.

3

Dru and darla collage

Darla & Drusilla

The delicious and dark duo that wreaked havoc in season 2 absolutely deserve a spot on my list.  By themselves, Darla and Drusilla prove to be dangerous, but as a tag team they are truly masterful.  After Darla is brought back as a human in season 2, Wolfram & Hart recruit Drusilla to turn her into a vampire.

These two bad-ass ladies just want to have fun, as they even go on a shopping spree that is to die for…literally.  Angel has close ties to both of them from his past, which makes them formidable foes.  My favorite episode with them is “Reunion,” (Season 2, episode 10), where they decide to turn the tables on Wolfram & Hart and deliver a “massacre” just like they ordered.  Only the massacre is on the lawyers, as they kill everyone at the party except for Lindsey and Lilah.

They even spark a darkness within Angel, as he allows Darla and Drusilla to kill everyone at the party.  He is not Angelus in this moment, but something else, as his past consumes him and he almost turns off his humanity here, which proves just how dangerous this duo was.

2

Jasmine collage

Jasmine

After fans were initially shocked that Cordelia could be the potential big bad in Season 4, we learn that Jasmine has been controlling her and pulling the strings.  Cordelia ends up giving birth to Jasmine, which puts her into a coma, and the goddess is released into the world.  You would think that Jasmine would be all about destruction, but her methods are different, as she creates a world of “shiny happy people.”  You know she was evil when she got Angel to wear yellow.

Everyone is enamored by Jasmine, as they flock to her and will do anything to make her happy, which is beyond dangerous.  Later on, Fred is exposed to Jasmine’s blood and sees the true face of Jasmine, which consists of maggots and rotting flesh.  Thanks to Fred, everyone else is eventually able to see what Jasmine truly is and we learn that she consumes large groups of people at a time to maintain her strength.  So, basically she eats people, but in a happy, cheery way.

Jasmine is a worthy villain because she was able to successfully infiltrate Angel’s group and use Cordelia to be reborn into the world.  She was also a villain that Angel could not just merely fight and attack, as her manipulation of the world was something transcendent of violence, but luckily we had our girl Fred there to make a difference.

Some honorable mentions before revealing my number one pick are:

  • Angelus
  • Illyria (although I don’t personally classify her as a villain)
  • Skip
  • Vocah

1

WOlfram collage.jpg

Wolfram & Hart

It should be no surprise that my favorite villain has to go to “Wolfram & Hart.”  I decided to keep them as a collective, rather than break them up individually, because that was the point of this evil law firm.  While Buffy had to fight endless demons, gods, and vampires, Angel had to deal with evil lawyers who were not afraid to cut through red tape to further their agenda.  My standout lawyers from Wolfram & Hart were Lindsey and Lilah, but the entire concept of an evil law firm was pure genius.

The lawyers of Wolfram & Hart successfully use manipulation and corruption, which is not something Angel can just easily fight or attack.  They actually helped Angel become an even stronger hero, as he needed to think outside the box to outsmart them again and again.  In season 5, Angel is presented with the opportunity to lead the Wolfram & Hart branch in LA, which was a shock to many viewers.  Even though Angel tries to do good with the resources he now has readily available, there are still consequences and threats thrown his way.

The ultimate last apocalypse of the series is unleashed from Wolfram & Hart, which reminded us that they were the very source of the evil walking the earth.  Whether you love them or hate them, you have to respect the unique methods of Wolfram & Hart, as this law firm absolutely earns my top spot today.

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to share some of your own thoughts and comments on your favorite villains from Angel. Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Passage” season 1 episode 5: “I Feel Like Something Terrible is Going to Happen”

Happy Tuesday TV fans!  After watching Fox’s The Passage season 1 episode 5, I realized that “secrets can make you lonely.”  They eat away at you and pull at your inner conscience, refusing to retract their claws.  They will consume you if you let them, but so will the vampire in the cell next door.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “How You Gonna Outrun the End of the World?” we learn more about Dr. Lear’s past and Fanning’s connection to his wife, Elizabeth.  Meanwhile, Dr. Sykes tries to do what is right, Shauna continues to haunt Clark’s mind, Lila gets into trouble, and Amy displays some new abilities.  My top 5 moments from The Passage season 1 episode 5 are:

5

“We’re getting out of here soon and I’m taking you with me.”

During the episode, Dr. Sykes tells Clark that she knows that he made the conscious decision to save Shauna and asks him if she is still in his head.  Clark lies to her and says no, but Shauna is never too far away, as she continues to taunt and tease Clark.  She clearly has a fascination with Clark and promises to take him with her, but is she simply using him or is there more to it?  Either way, it doesn’t look like Shauna is going to stop appearing in Clark’s mind, but why is he hiding it from others?  Does he think it makes him weak or a target?  Does a part of him truly want to lose himself with Shauna and embrace the darkness?

4

“Are you reading my mind?”

Amy begins to show some telepathic abilities, as Brad notices that Amy is reading his mind.  Dr. Sykes reminds Amy that “there’s a light” in her, revealing that Amy’s goodness may be enough to balance her new abilities.  Could this be the key?  Amy’s powers are advancing, but she seems to be holding on to her humanity more than Carter, who was clearly tortured by the vampires in his head.  Carter had a guilty conscience, but Amy is an innocent, so could that make the difference?  Shauna offered false promises of family to Amy, but Brad reminds Amy that he’s not going anywhere and that he is her family, which is beyond touching.  Amy is clearly frightened that she could be transforming into something else, but Brad keeps her staying positive, as they plan a way to escape together.

3

“No one here wants any part of that.”

Dr. Sykes begins to learn that Project Noah is not just about saving lives, as she comes to the discovery that they plan on weaponizing Amy.  Dr. Sykes listens to her own conscience and realizes that she needs to help Amy and Brad escape.  Dr. Sykes wants to shut the project down, but it looks like she doesn’t have any support from Clark or anyone else right now.  Her best shot is to somehow recruit Dr. Lear, but it looks like Project Noah is run by people who have another agenda.  Even though Dr. Sykes may not be able to stop it, she can do what she can to protect Amy, which proves that she is a good person and she has the potential to make a difference.

2

“We moved on.  Clearly you never did.”

Dr. Lear is quarantined during the episode, which had me feeling some Lost nostalgia, especially when the alarm sounded.  Dr. Lear is worried about turning into a vampire and even uses this word, which surprises Dr. Sykes.  Dr. Lear is warned not to look at Fanning, but he can’t help thinking of their connected past while he is down here.  We learn that Dr. Fanning was hopelessly in love with Dr. Lear’s wife, Elizabeth, and they shared a brief encounter together.  Dr. Fanning attempts to manipulate Dr. Lear’s mind with these secrets, but Dr. Lear says that he already knew about it and that they moved past it together, recognizing that their marriage is strong and important.  Unfortunately, Dr. Fanning doesn’t stop here, as he taps into the janitor’s mind and he ends up paying Elizabeth a visit and injecting the serum into her.  Jonas learns that he is not infected, but he tries to make it to Elizabeth, fearing that she may be in trouble.  Elizabeth’s mind seems to be restored, as she fully remembers Jonas, but Fanning is already in her mind.  Will Dr. Lear be able to save his wife or is she already claimed by Fanning?  Either way, this fully motivates Dr. Lear to try and find some kind of cure before the rest of the world is impacted.

1

“You just did that.”

Didn’t anyone ever teach Dr. Pet that you don’t say things like “what’s the worst that can happen in 30 seconds?”  I mean, we’re dealing with unstable vampires here.  Anyway, Dr. Pet starts some experiments on Winston, as he tries to telepathically connect to his mind, hoping that he can control the vampires.  It initially seems to be working, but Winston later turns the tables on Dr. Pet and tells him to run.  Dr. Pet is viciously killed by Winston in front of Dr. Lear’s cell, as he makes a break for it.  Amy and Brad are also on the run at the same time and Brad tries to protect Amy from Winston.  Amy begins screaming in reaction, which impacts and hurts Winston.  Brad is just as surprised as Amy, but they realize that they have to get out of there right away.  Amy’s abilities are growing at a fast rate and it seems like her powers are different than the other subjects.  What else will Amy be able to do?  I honestly can’t wait to find out!

Overall, I thought this was a terrific episode.  The connected past between Lear and Fanning reveals that they are going to face off sooner or later.  I just wish we had a little bit more time to devote to Lila and Lacey.  Lila is potentially abducted at the end of the episode, but I wish we had a few more minutes in each episode so that we can fully understand what is going on here, but I’m sure we will get more information soon.  Either way, this show continues to captivate my full attention.  There is a struggle of power going on between light and dark, but it’s only a matter of time before one tips the scale.  Are you on Team Fanning or Team Amy Stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts and theories on The Passage in the comments section below.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Walking Dead” season 9 episode 9: “Home, Sweet Home”

Happy Monday TV fans!  After watching AMC’s The Walking Dead season 9 episode 9 Mid-Season Premiere, I realized that sometimes being a good judge of character is not as easy as one might suspect.  Do you go with your gut or do you believe that there is still goodness within others, even though you have been burned before?  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Adaptation,” Negan finally gets some well deserved screen time and leaves Alexandria, but starts to have second thoughts about where he truly belongs.  Meanwhile, Michonne and Daryl capture a Whisperer, Luke tries to keep things light, and Rosita reveals a secret.  My top 5 moments from The Walking Dead season 9 episode 9 are:

5

“I’m pregnant.”

During the episode, Rosita gets sick after Eugene returns and reveals that she is pregnant.  I guess congratulations are in order, only we find out that Dr. Siddiq is the potential father since apparently Rosita was “having fun” with him before she started seeing Gabriel.  I honestly can’t keep track of all of these romances, but it’s interesting that another pregnancy has now been revealed on the show.  But what does that mean for Eugene?  I’ve been secretly shipping Rosita and Eugene for a while, but I’m not sure if that is in the cards now.

4

“Two man band.”

Luke, played by Dan Fogler, is still bringing us some laughs, which is important on a show like TWD, which can be very heavy and draining sometimes.  Luke offers to help out and goes on a sweep with Alden.  He talks about forming a two man band and says it can be a “symphony of awesome.”  While I love these two bonding right now, it doesn’t look too good for them when they end up surrounded by the Whisperers at the end of the episode.

3

“You try anything, you won’t have to pretend.”

During the episode, Michonne and Daryl capture a Whisperer.  Michonne reminds us that she is a bad-ass and threatens the Whisperer.  We know that Michonne will be leaving the series during season 10, but it looks like she is going to continue to stay guarded in the meantime.  After all, we still don’t know the back story of these “X” marks, but Michonne is not taking any chances with this Whisperer chick.  I can’t say that I really blame her, however.

2

“These people need you.”

During the episode, Michonne reminds Daryl that everyone needs him and that he is the “best judge of character” she knows.  While you may not think this skill is worth mentioning, it absolutely is, as so many of the characters on the show fail to see what is right in front of them.  Daryl has the ability to see who someone truly is, but he has been on his own for quite some time now.  Daryl confronts the Whisperer chick and screams, “don’t like to me,” proving that he means business, but Henry intervenes when Daryl decides to do what is necessary.  Henry is naive and almost pointless here, except that the Whisperer chick takes advantage and tells him that her name is Lydia and thanks him.  I literally said, “dumb ass Henry,” to my television during this scene, but I guess we have to have someone to yell at.

1

“Home, sweet home.”

Negan finally gets the quality screen time he deserves in this episode and I have to say that it’s about time!  Negan tries to escape Alexandria, but Judith catches him.  Judith is not about to let Negan go, but he reasons with her.  Negan and Judith have formed a strong bond and Judith makes a real decision for herself by letting him go.  Negan has quite the adventure, as he ends up returning to his old “home” and tries to embrace a form of nostalgia.  However, Negan comes to the realization that his former home is pretty much gone and there is nothing left there for him.  Negan comes back and Judith shoots at him like she promised, but Negan thoughtfully returns her compass and decides to stay in Alexandria after all.  What’s next for Negan?  I’m not sure, but it looks like his character will be developing further, which is something that I am looking forward to.  Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “SMILF” season 2 episode 3: “Birthday twins!”

Greetings TV viewers!  After watching Showtime’s SMILF season 2  episode 3, I was reminded that one night can have a ripple effect on so many others, only you don’t always realize it.  After Bridgette’s fiasco last week, we actually get to learn how her night impacted other characters on the show, which was clever and fun.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In tonight’s episode, “Surrogate Mothers Inspire Loving Families,” which is a play on SMILF, Bridgette takes the statue of Mary home and tries to recover from her crazy adventure.  Meanwhile, the episode is split up into three parts, allowing us to see how that same day impacted:  Ida, Ally & Mindy, and Elsie.  My top 5 moments from the SMILF season 2 episode 3 are:

5

“Everybody always misses my birthday.”

In the beginning of the episode, we flash back to “earlier that day” and Ally starts talking about how everyone always misses her birthday.  Ally is clearly in a rut because of Mr. Daddy’s infidelity, but she desperately tries to put a bright spin on everything.  Only we quickly learn that this big day for Ally actually impacts a lot of the people around her as well.

4

“Come dance with me.”

The first perspective of the episode belongs to Ida, who works very hard for Ally.  We learn that Ally’s daughter, Chloe, actually has a very close bond with Ida.  Ida even helps her “roll” out her fat so that she feels confident for her date.  After the date, Chloe is upset and feels rejected, but Ida keeps her staying positive, as the two of them dance away their worries, which is heartwarming and special.  Even though Ally is Chloe’s mother, I’m not sure that Chloe feels comfortable talking to her about her problems, but it’s nice to see that she has another woman under her roof who is there for her.

3

“I hate Judge Judy.”

During the “Ally & Mindy” portion of the episode, Ally gets a call from her son and has to pick him up from school because he is not feeling well.  Ally tries to bond with her son and suggests that they can curl up on the couch and watch television together, but her son hilariously reminds her, “I hate Judge Judy and it’s so predictable.”  Later on, Ally wants to go into a store and tries to get her son to behave and says he can buy whatever he wants at Target and that “he can shoot guns all night” as long as he remains quiet, which is not the phrase that Ally opted for.  It doesn’t look like the bonding is going anywhere, however.

2

“Thank you Miss Ally and your cheating ass husband.”

The third part of the episode is from Elsie’s perspective and she is beyond excited to go to a concert later on.  After Ally decides to replace her own refrigerator simply because it doesn’t go with the rest of the decor, she agrees to let Elsie have the discarded refrigerator, which frees up some money so that Elsie can go get her hair done in style.  Unfortunately, Elsie misses out on the concert when she gets the call from Ally to babysit Larry while Ally and Bridgette go out for her birthday, but she ends up making the most of it by dancing the night away with Mindy, while keeping a watchful eye over Larry of course.

1

“Birthday twins!”

During the Ally & Mindy portion of the episode, Mindy helps Ally in the store she works at.  Ally has been desperately trying to obtain a rare Birkin bag, which costs $23,000 and is tired of being put on the waiting list.  After discovering that Ally and Mindy share the same birthday, Mindy decides to help out Ally after being snubbed by another customer who was waiting for the bag.  Ally isn’t the kindest to Mindy either, but Mindy is still sweet to her and ends up watching Larry with Elsie when they are unable to go to the concert together.  It seems like Ally doesn’t really know how to hold on to a friend, but perhaps she should take a further look at the women around her who are always there for her.  Birthdays are a time for celebration, but we also tend to take a good hard look in the mirror at ourselves and determine where we are in our lives.  Ally may still need some time to recover over Mr. Daddy, but I think that she should take a cue from Ida, Elsie, and Mindy, who seem to make the best of their situations no matter what.  At least Ally got that Birkin bag though.  Stay tuned for more SMILF fun!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post your own thoughts on SMILF below in the comments section.  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Shameless” season 9 episode 10: “Welcome to the South Side, Bitch!”

Happy Sunday TV fans!  After watching Showtime’s Shameless season 9 episode 10, I realized that merely saying you are “turning a corner” does not always mean that you will.  You may be off to a good start, but it doesn’t take much to set you off on the wrong path again.  Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In tonight’s episode, “Los Diablos!” Debbie continues to panic about running the Gallagher household and Liam tries his best to pay his fair share.  Meanwhile, Fiona winds up in a dangerous situation, an old friend of Lip’s returns, and Frank realizes that he has some steep competition in the search for the next Hobo Loco Man.  My top 5 moments from Shameless season 9 episode 10 are:

5

“So should we like hold hands or something?”

In this episode, Lip and Tami continue to grow closer, as they decide to take their relationship to the next level and actually hang out.  Lip tags along while Tami volunteers at a senior center and gets more than he bargained for when one of the old ladies gets a little “handsy” with him.  As Lip said, “no means no!”  Later on, Lip is in for a huge surprise when Xan shows up on his doorstep.  Xan’s mother has abandoned her again and Xan is clearly traumatized.  Tami actually handles this situation very well and is there for both Lip and Xan, proving that perhaps she is the one for Lip after all.  After watching the preview for the next episode, it looks like Lip is going to try and apply to foster Xan again, but I’m not sure if this will work out for them just yet.  Either way, I was happy to see the growth of the relationship between Lip and Tami.

4

“You know you really can’t put drug dealer or gun runner on your West Point app.”

Great point, Carl!  Carl is excited to get a new job opportunity, but it involves him being a sign spinner for popcorn shrimp while wearing a very festive pirate costume.  Carl is not thrilled about the job opportunity, especially when he gets jumped on the corner, but he is trying to stick it out as much as he can.  It looks like Carl’s new boss is a little “handsy” herself, so he may wind up in some trouble here, but we’ll have to wait and see how this pans out since it’s all hands on deck at the Gallagher home.  Savvy?

3

“Bad people wanted to turn them into sex slaves and gang members.”

“Kev, please stop talking!”  I agree, V, as Kev puts forth a valiant effort to teach his daughters a valuable lesson, but I’m not sure that they are ready to fully comprehend this subject matter.  During the episode, Santiago’s sister arrives and they explain that they will be returning back to Guatemala.  Kev is slightly disappointed, as he tried to bond with Santiago and even dressed him like him.  Kev and V’s daughters seem more than excited; however, as they drew some interesting pictures depicting Santiago’s violent death, which Kev and V might want to be slightly concerned about.

2

“They’re looking for someone with no purpose in life.”

I mean, if this is a calling for anyone, it’s for our guy, Frank Gallagher.  Debbie even hilariously points out that if it involves alcohol, they should just give the prize to Frank.  Frank is beyond excited to participate in the competition to become the next Hobo Loco Man, but he quickly realizes that he is not the only one with some pretty impressive skills in the group.  I’m not really sure that we can classify this as healthy competition, as some of the activities involve eating food out of a dumpster and chugging endless amounts of Hobo Loco and alcohol.  The Hobo Loco man is trending everywhere, but my money is still on Frank winning it all.  Place your bets now!

1

“Welcome to the South Side, Bitch!”

In the beginning of the episode, Fiona winds up in a dangerous situation when three men show up late at night at Patsy’s Pies.  Fiona is unsure if they want to rob her or hurt her, but ends up closing early and calling the police.  While Fiona had a right to be scared in this situation, her drinking problem has become quite routine and others are taking notice as well.  Fiona is ready to “turn a corner,” but is fired for her behavior, which only drives her right back to the alcohol.  Fiona has no job, but she tries to stay positive.  While Fiona may be out of control, at least she is not “having a tea party with stuffed animals,” like Ingrid.  Seriously, that comment had me laughing hysterically.  Later on, Fiona is beyond upset when she finds out that her new neighbor called the cops on Liam when he was trying to sell lemonade.  Fiona rounds up the troops and they throw an intrusive block party to officially welcome their new neighbor to the South Side.  Only Fiona takes it a little bit too far when she jumps the woman’s fence and punches her straight in the face.  While the woman may have deserved it, Fiona winds up getting arrested, so things are only going to get crazier for the Gallaghers.  Stay tuned and congrats to Shameless for being renewed for season 10!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Supernatural” season 14 episode 13: “Who’s Been Playing Back to the Future?”

Happy Friday TV fans!  After watching the CW’s Supernatural season 14 episode 13, I was so unbelievably happy with the 300th episode of this brilliant show.  The Winchester brothers have been through so much together and it often seems like they don’t really get a break.  However, this episode marked a milestone for the show and gave us the chance to see one of the most heartwarming moments of the entire series.  Please note major spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet.  In last night’s episode, “Lebanon,” Sam and Dean stumble upon some occult items and realize that they have the opportunity to make one of their wishes come true.  While they could have never guessed what they would end up with, they quickly realize that there are consequences to altering timelines, but are they ready to go back to reality?  My top 5 moments from Supernatural season 14 episode 13 are:

5

“Baby, please tell me you’re not hurt…”

In the beginning of the episode, several teenagers are hilariously commenting on Sam and Dean’s presence and ask, “Where do they even come from?”  A girl named Max decides to take Dean’s beloved car for a ride, but it seems like the teens are just looking for some fun in a small town.  After tracking the teens down to an abandoned house at a party, Dean is beyond relieved to see that Baby is OK and so am I!  Either way, it was very funny to see the commentary on Sam and Dean and what they could possibly be up to now, which I thought was a fun and clever way to pay tribute to the fans who have been watching the Winchester brothers for 300 episodes.

4

“A serial killer clown…”

Poor Sam.  Sam and Dean quickly realize that the teens took the box of occult items out of the car and a “serial killer clown” is unleashed, which is beyond terrifying for Sam.  We know that Sam does just fine with serial killers, but a clown is an entirely different story.  I thought this was a fun throwback as well to some of the earlier episodes where we witness Sam’s overwhelming fear of clowns.  Maybe we needed to throw in a Yorkie chasing Dean to even the score, however.  Either way, it was a lot of fun and I was immediately drawn in to some SPN nostalgia.

3

“I don’t know that reference.”

During the episode, Sam and Dean discover that they have a pearl that will grant them their “heart’s desire.”  Dean wants to use it to cast Michael out of his head, but the pearl discovers something else that Dean has been longing for all this time.  However, while this wish takes place, it alters the Winchester’s timeline and we discover that Castiel no longer knows the Winchester brothers and he certainly doesn’t know any references either.  Zachariah, played by Kurt Fuller, is also alive and well, but immediately recognizes that someone has been playing “Back to the Future.”  Either way, I thought this was a fun guest appearance and it really made me think about how far Castiel has come with understanding pop culture references.  I mean, he did learn a lot from that pizza man…

2

“You run a law firm and love kale.”

As Sam and Dean discover that they have created a “temporal paradox,” they realize that they are also in danger of changing into these alternate timeline characters.  While Dean has his “Blue Steel” look down pat for his most wanted picture, Sam has become “internet famous,” although I have to say that I really liked Sam’s glasses.  I’m not so sure about the raw food diet, however.  Either way, the Winchester brothers realize that they have to change things back or they will face further consequences, but are they ready to say goodbye to who they summoned?

1

“One family dinner…all together.”

I tried to contain this spoiler as much as possible until we reached the number one moment, but I’m sure that you have already discovered that John Winchester has returned, played by the absolutely brilliant, Jeffrey Dean Morgan.  I mean, you can’t top this special guest appearance.  Happy 300th episode everyone!  When Dean wished for what his heart most desires, I almost fell off my couch when he asked, “Dad?” and John Winchester appeared on my screen.  I have been waiting to see John return for quite some time and we know that characters tend to not stay gone for long on this show even if they have died before.  After all, we have resurrection spells, characters returning from hell or purgatory, and characters in another dimension.  However, John Winchester has not been one of those characters to return, even though I have wished for it so many times before.

Even though Sam and Dean realize that they need to return everything as it was to keep their reality intact, they decide to have one family dinner all together.  The reunion between Mary and John was beyond beautiful and romantic, as I had tears in my eyes the entire time.  Sam finally got to talk to his Dad about their previous argument and Dean’s wish of having a family dinner all together came true, which was truly the most magical and heartwarming moment I have ever witnessed on the show.  Even though John could not stay, he reminded his sons to take care of each other and we know that they will continue to do so for the rest of time.  I was so incredibly moved by this episode and I couldn’t have asked for anything more to celebrate 300 amazing episodes with my SPN family.  Stay tuned!  New episodes return March 7th!

I hope you enjoyed the list and feel free to post some of your own thoughts and theories on Supernatural in the comments section below.  I would love to hear from you!  Thanks so much for reading and happy viewing!
