Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Walking Dead” season 9 episode 2: “You’re not Saving the World Rick. You’re just Getting it Ready for Me”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching AMC’s The Walking Dead season 9 episode 2, I realized that restoring a bridge is not just about connecting different places. While you may be able to get to point B easier from point A, it’s not that simple when it comes to building a bridge between groups of people, especially when these people do not agree on everything. So do you keep trying to build it anyway or do you sever the link before it becomes too much to handle? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In last night’s episode, “The Bridge,” the communities attempt to work together to restore the bridge, but not everyone is on the same page. Meanwhile, Jesus and Michonne try to get through to Maggie and Daryl continues to clash with Rick. My top 5 moments from The Walking Dead season 9 episode 2 are:

“Mother Goose?”

Even though everyone is trying to create a new beginning, one cannot ignore that the world is still filled with death and despair. Sometimes these episodes can get a bit heavy and Tara provides some much needed comic relief. Tara is the “eye in the sky” and tries to radio over to Rick when she sees a potential threat of walkers headed their way. Tara hilariously refers to Rick as “Mother Goose,” but he does not seem to be too fond of the code name. I like the code name; however, and it’s nice to see someone take a minute to have a good laugh. Thanks Tara!

“It’s about the small moments.”

During the episode, we continue to see some heartwarming moments between Carol and Ezekiel. Ezekiel reminds Carol that it’s about the small moments and that he is not giving up on their fairy-tale just yet. Even though Carol will be leaving his side for a while, Ezekiel understands that it is just “goodbye for now.” Later on, Carol asks Ezekiel if he still has the ring and agrees to wear it, but she doesn’t want him to make a big production. Ezekiel tries to get down on one knee and says that he has a speech prepared. Carol had me laughing out loud when she responds, “I’m sure you did and you can read it to me later.” Carol and Ezekiel are as different as they come, but there is something endearing about them so far, even though I’m still not shipping them just yet. However, the writers are making it difficult for me because these moments are heartwarming for sure.

“I think some decisions are too big for one person to make.”

We learn that it has been a little more than a month since Gregory was executed and Maggie is refusing to let the wife of the man who attacked her visit him in his cell. Michonne expresses her concerns again and Jesus tries to get through to Maggie, explaining that they need to have some kind of common law system in place. Jesus and Michonne think that Maggie is a good person, but Jesus makes an excellent point when he explains that “good people can disagree.” Maggie eventually has a change of heart after letting the man’s wife visit him and having a heart-to-heart talk with him as well. Later on, she tells Michonne that they can talk about common laws, but she will still do what she thinks is right by her people. When Michonne asks her what has changed, Maggie talks about her own father and says that he had a drinking problem too. He deserved a second chance, but she reminds Michonne that Gregory had way too many chances and she’s absolutely right. Maggie further explains, “Some people can be redeemed, but others can’t.” When Michonne asks her who gets to make that decision, Maggie says that they will need to figure that out. I’m glad to see that Maggie is willing to listen to the people around her while still maintaining her strong leadership and beliefs. I have a feeling that we will definitely see some more differences in opinions; however, and we will have to stay tuned to see how far that escalates.

“Are we though? On the same side?”

Tensions are continuing to run high, especially when some of the former Saviors get upset when they are told what to do. Daryl clashes with one in particular and Rick has to break up a fight to keep the peace going. Daryl has been trying to get through to Rick, but Rick has been trying so hard to keep his new world going. Does that mean that he is willing to sacrifice his friendship with Daryl, however? That doesn’t seem to be the case, as Rick is later confronted with the very same man after Aaron is severely injured because of this man’s negligence on the Walkie. Rick tells him that he has met men like him before when he was a cop and we finally get a glimpse of the bad-ass Rick Grimes that we all love so much. Rick tells him to leave the camp and warns him, “If I see your face again, stitches won’t fix what I do to you.” Rick stands up for Daryl here, but he also recognizes that not everyone is on board with the new world he is creating. While Rick doesn’t believe in executing others, he is willing to banish them to get his point across. While I appreciate what Rick is trying to build here in his community, he also needs to remember that not everyone has the best intentions and he has to protect the people around him. Don’t lose that edge just yet Rick.

“You’re not saving the world Rick. You’re just getting it ready for me.”

Rick has been talking to Negan about how they are building and growing as a community. He tells Negan that they had a bad day, but that they all came together at the end and that was their choice. In a previous moment, Aaron tells Rick that “it’s not the end of the world anymore” because Rick changed it and he’s glad to be a part of it. Aaron has just lost his arm and is still happy to be a part of the world that Rick is creating, giving Rick some hope and encouragement that he is doing the right thing. After Rick tells Negan about the day, Negan responds, “That’s a really pretty picture you paint there Rick.” Rick tells him that he will never see it and loses his temper when Negan brings up Carl. Negan reminds Rick that everything will eventually fall apart and he will be right there waiting in the wings. We know that there are still some Saviors who believe in Negan, but is there another threat present as well? At the end of the episode, the man who attacked Daryl is talking to someone on the road back and is attacked. Who is this new threat? We’ll have to wait and find out, but Rick needs to remember that he should never underestimate Negan, even if he is behind bars right now. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” season 8 episode 2: “What is this, the Hunger Games?”

Happy Thursday TV fans! After watching the FX network’s American Horror Story: Apocalypse season 8 episode 2 last night, we witnessed several Easter eggs from previous seasons, foreshadowing the return of some of our favorite characters. While we don’t know what to expect just yet, these glimpses and hints are not to be ignored. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In last night’s episode, “The Morning After,” Mr. Langdon makes an announcement to the group and explains that he will be conducting a series of questions to find out who is worthy of “cooperating” and joining “The Sanctuary.” Meanwhile, Timothy and Emily discover Ms. Venable’s deceit and grow closer as a result, Mr. Gallant has a visitor at his door, and we get a fresh new ingredient for dinner. Anything should be better than Stu, right? My top 5 moments from American Horror Story: Apocalypse season 8 episode 2 are:

“I thought everything outside was dead.”

In the beginning of the episode, Timothy and Emily are horrified by the presence of snakes in Outpost 3. Ms. Mead is excited by a new protein for dinner, but everyone else is not so sure. After all, they have just been traumatized over possibly eating Stu in their stew. Sorry I can’t let that one go just yet. The snake soup does not look too appetizing, but the snakes resurrect and are alive when dinner is officially served. While this moment is horrifying, it also reminds us that this is considered a form of resurrection. We know that the snakes are not the only ones to come back to life in this new world. Who’s next? We’ll have to wait and see, but this absolutely screams “Coven.”

“I won’t sugar coat the situation.”

Mr. Langdon quickly introduces himself to the rest of the group and informs them that the rest of the Outposts have been overrun by some kind of “feral cannibals.” Mr. Langdon explains that The Cooperative had a fail-safe in place and that they have an outpost called “The Sanctuary,” which has security measures protecting it to ensure its survival along with the humans who reside in it. The group learns that Mr. Langdon has been sent to determine who is worthy of joining “The Sanctuary,” which will involve a series of questions. Mr. Gallant is the first one to “volunteer as tribute.” Insert “Hunger Games” joke here, which I thought seemed appropriate since Coco hilariously cried out, “what is this, the Hunger Games?” Mr. Langdon explains to Mr. Gallant that he will know if he is lying or trying to trick him. Does this mean that Mr. Langdon possesses some kind of supernatural powers and abilities? While we are not too sure of this yet, it definitely appears like we are being pointed in that direction.

“You’re a fighter. I like that about you.”

Later in the episode, Mr. Langdon speaks to Ms. Venable in her chambers and reminds her that “complete abstinence” was not part of the rules and that this could be determined punishable by death. It makes us wonder why Ms. Venable felt the need to enforce this rule so much. There clearly seems to be a common trend so far of “lust,” creeping into the walls of Outpost 3, which brings us back to Ryan Murphy connecting the seasons of AHS to the “Nine Circles of Hell” from Dante’s Inferno. Mr. Langdon recognizes Ms. Venable as a fighter and reminds her that “there’s no need for us to be adversaries.” He further explains that he wants to see the part of her that humiliates her the most, ordering for her to remove her dress. Ms. Venable finally shows us some real vulnerability here and hesitantly unzips the back of her dress, revealing some kind of deformity and scarring on her back. Ms. Venable asks if she has passed the test, but Mr. Langdon coldly replies, “No.” Before they can get any further, they are interrupted by Ms. Mead who requires Ms. Venable’s immediate attention.

“Is this phase 2 of the interview?”

When Mr. Gallant is questioned by Mr. Langdon, there is an underlying sexual tension throughout their conversation. Mr. Langdon asks Mr. Gallant to tell him about his anger and immediately links it to his grandmother, recognizing that Mr. Gallant has some untamed hatred brewing inside of him. Later on, there is a knock at Mr. Gallant’s door and he is greeted by an old friend of AHS: The Rubber Man. The man is dressed in black latex head to toe and Mr. Gallant’s grandmother discovers them having sex. Fans will remember that The Rubber Man is revealed to be Tate from AHS: Murder House (season one), also played by Evan Peters. This makes things beyond confusing, but it is possible that someone else has embraced the suit, but we will have to wait and find out. Mr. Gallant’s grandmother reports his behavior, looking out for her own survival and Mr. Gallant is whipped repeatedly by Ms. Mead. Later on, Mr. Langdon tells him that he has never been to his room and that his neediness and desperation disgust him. He harshly tells Mr. Gallant that he would not be with him if he was the last man on earth and they are pretty close to that very scenario. Mr. Gallant is very upset by this cruel rejection and to make matters worse, his own grandmother refuses to accept him as well. Later on, Mr. Gallant follows the Rubber Man and turns the tables on him, stabbing him for shaming him. Only he quickly realizes that he has stabbed his grandmother to death instead, now seeing her corpse before his eyes. Mr. Gallant is horrified by what he has done, just in desperate need for someone to love and accept him. The damage is done, but we’ll have to wait and see if there are consequences for his actions.

“What are we doing?”

During the episode, Timothy and Emily sneak into Mr. Langdon’s room and find his laptop. They are initially confused on how he can communicate with anyone, but assume it must be some type of satellite. They read through some of the emails and learn that Ms. Venable has been making up the rules as she goes, particularly about the mandatory abstinence. Timothy and Emily take things further with their blossoming relationship and it is implied that they do have sex. Ms. Mead barges into the bedroom when they are sleeping and takes them to be punished. Emily cries out to Ms. Venable that she knows the rules are not real, but they are still taken away. A gun is pulled on Timothy and he courageously fights back and gets a hold of the gun. Ms. Mead is shot and another shock is thrown our way. Ms. Mead takes a look at her wound and we see some kind of white liquid coming out of it, which is definitely not human. Is she a robot or something else? I’m not sure, but it looks like we are in for more and more twists and turns. Stay tuned!

P.S. fun fact: Did you notice “The Morning After” song changed over to a song featuring Stevie Nicks? Is it possible we will see her again along with some of our other favorites from Coven?

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Shameless” season 9 episode 2: “I’m going to eat every one of your goddamn bread sticks!”

Happy Sunday TV fans! After watching Showtime’s Shameless season 9 episode 2, I brushed up on my vocabulary and used “artisanal” in a sentence. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch yet. In tonight’s episode, “Mo White!” Fiona is looking to invest in commercial property and enlists the help of her new intern, Liam, to close the deal. Meanwhile, Ian is looking to return his get out of jail free card, Frank gets involved in politics, and Debbie comes up with a creative new slogan to get her point across about equal pay for women. My top 5 moments from Shameless season 9 episode 2 are:

“I don’t eat pie. Now you do.”

During the episode, Lip is preoccupied by Xan’s actions, but is stunned when someone asks him to be his sponsor at his AA meeting. Initially Lip says he has to think about it and explains that “Gallaghers don’t sponsor. They get sponsored.” At the end of the episode, Lip has a change of heart and offers to sponsor the young man in need, recognizing that it is time to give back. He tells him that they can get pie after the meeting and talk, but it looks like his new sponsee is not going to get a choice on the menu. While Lip continues to grow closer to Xan, this new sponsor/sponsee relationship could be something truly significant for him and it’s absolutely a step in the right direction for Lip.

“I am a proud welder with a vagina.”

After learning that she is making less than her male co-workers, Debbie continues her research on the subject and is shocked by her findings. Debbie takes baby Franny with her to different construction sites and puts her megaphone skills to good use, trying to recruit other female employees to jump on board and fight the good fight. Debbie’s slogan is definitely catchy, as she calls out, “I am a proud welder with a vagina!” To Debbie’s disappointment, she doesn’t run into any female workers to recruit, but is surprised when someone pays her a visit at her home later on in the episode. Debbie discovers that an employee she thought was a male is in fact a female and has been disguising herself at work. Debbie doesn’t want to be rude, but does say, “You really look like a dude,” but it seems like this new potential friend doesn’t mind her brutal honesty. To the shock of Debbie, she asks her out for a drink and tells her it’s a date. I guess her speech was more inspiring than she realized.

“You’re both named Amy now.”

Kev and V are excited to explore preschool options for their energetic daughters and are absolutely impressed with the first place they see, which includes bunnies for all and princess costumes galore. Kev even says, “This is where I want to go when I die.” Unfortunately when they get to the paperwork, Kev is stunned by the number he sees and hilariously asks, “Is that a year in the future?” Kev and V quickly learn that tuition for a month is triple the amount of their mortgage payments. They begin researching some more “budget friendly” options, which consist of an “imagination area” in a back alley. Finally, they come across a suitable option at a Catholic preschool, but learn that there is only one spot available. Kev and V have a sit down with their daughters and explain that they will be wearing the same outfits and can never be in the same place at the same time. Kev hilariously says, “You’re both named Amy now. Jemma doesn’t exist anymore.” The two girls nod in compliance, but it will be interesting to see how this unfolds since they don’t really follow directions too well. Either way, Kev and V love Amy and “fake Amy” and are excited to enroll them into preschool.

“I like to cut things and watch them bleed.”

Carl is determined to get into West Point, but realizes that this will not be as easy as he initially anticipated. He learns that he needs to complete community service and that his time served in juvy does not count. When asked about his special skills, Carl enthusiastically explains that he has a “steady hand with a knife” and that he likes to “cut things and watch them bleed.” The recruiter surprisingly has a recommendation for him and sends Carl to “Soothing Horizon.” When Carl arrives, he learns that he will be putting dogs to sleep and is shocked to see the “gas chamber” van option the retired vet has in place. When he meets one of the service dogs, Carl is not able to go through with this and decides to take all of the dogs home with him. He tells the dogs that “the Gallagher basement beats the murder van” and I absolutely agree, as I was not sure I could watch Carl go through with this as a dog lover and owner myself. Carl makes all of the dogs feel at home and when one dies naturally, he even goes all out to provide them with a traditional military funeral, but perhaps he should wait until everyone wakes up, as he decides to have this performed at 5am outside the Gallagher home.

“Where are we going? To take what’s ours.”

During the episode, Fiona expresses an interest in investing in commercial real estate. Irish Ford cautions her against this, but Fiona is determined to prove that she can excel here. Fiona recruits the help of Liam who was expelled from school because of Frank’s actions. “The sins of the father” and all that. Liam shows off his own skills and helps Fiona quite a bit, proving to be an excellent intern with helpful information. Liam helps Fiona negotiate over properties and she even works in some flashy lingo as well to show that she is a “savvy” business woman. After being shown several properties, Fiona realizes that she wants to partner in on “Sunset Brook,” which is the new building for senior care in her neighborhood. Fiona explains that she knows the neighborhood and the people here and that she would make an excellent partner and investor, but is initially turned down and obnoxiously hit on. Fiona does some research at home and finds out that there are still partner spots available and crashes the investor’s dinner to prove that she means business. Fiona doesn’t back down and tells him that she has 50K, or make that 100K, to invest. She stands in front of the entire table and threatens that she will stay there and “eat every one of your goddamn bread sticks.” Fiona closes the deal and is in business and I have to say that I absolutely love the partnership between her and Liam. After all, they crushed it! Now let’s hope that Liam can enroll in another school without an issue. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” season 13 episode 2: “The Gang Escapes”

Happy Friday TV fans! Have you ever wanted to play the escape room game? It’s a trend that is happening all over and of course the gang from Patty’s Pub has to get in on the action. After watching the FXX network’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 2 last night, I realized that while teamwork may be the most important element needed to win the game, the gang always has something else up their sleeves so that they wind up the winners. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In Wednesday night’s episode, “The Gang Escapes,” the gang puts their best effort forward to excel at the escape the room game, but realize that a lot is at stake especially when “power plays” are introduced along with some much needed “riffing.” My top 5 moments from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 episode 2 are:

“Don’t judge me nerd.”

Dee is very excited to participate in the escape the room game and even begins looking for clues before she is technically allowed to. We quickly find out that Dee has already played this particular escape game and was looking forward to showing off her detective skills to the group. Only unfortunately for Dee, the gang decides to lock her in Dennis’s room, which is completely soundproof. More on that later. Dee tries to team up with the woman running the escape room game, but is upset when she doesn’t jump at the chance to get back at Dee’s friends, reminding Dee that the game is supposed to be about communication and teamwork and that this makes her uncomfortable. Dee hilariously replies, “let’s see how comfortable you get when they get frustrated and start smashing all your shit,” proving that she knows her friends better than anyone else. As if right on cue, the smashing begins.

“That’s power play.”

The gang begins to disagree on who the leader should be so they decide to break up into teams: Mac and Dennis and Charlie and Frank. Dennis feels the rush of power and is excited that they have a clue in their grasp. However, he begins to get distracted by Frank’s obnoxious chewing of gum, recognizing it as a power play and classic angry Dennis makes an appearance. Dennis begins freaking out and yells, “Can I riff? I’m just riffing now. Will you go get my gum?” Mac does his best to obtain the gum from Charlie, but Frank also explains that this could be considered “power play,” confirming Dennis’s theory on becoming the “head cow.” I don’t understand it any better than you do, but it is absolutely hilarious that both Dennis and Frank recognize the potential power play going on here.

“You didn’t say the safe word.”

While Dee is locked up in Dennis’s room, she accidentally triggers his laptop, which dims the lights and makes the bed even vibrate. A message comes up on the laptop with Dennis surrounded by hearts and greets her by saying, “welcome sexual conquest.” Dee begins freaking out, not wanting any part of her brother’s creepy sexual playground, but the message continues to go on while Stacey Q’s, “Two of Hearts” song begins to play, which you can listen to here! She desperately tries to turn everything off, but is scolded when she doesn’t use the safe word. I’m still wondering what that is. Poor Dee!

“To us as men!”

Mac and Dennis finally come to an agreement with Charlie and Frank, as they all sit down for a summit to discuss the terms of their negotiation. Charlie hilariously works in a new accent and says that they can commence with the turning of the key as long as he can remain “the speaker of the tribe.” They commend themselves on a job well done as men and turn over the lock and key clues so they can win the game. Only they quickly realize that this was only the first clue in the escape game and there are like 20 or 30 more things to complete. Whoops.

“You really were the quarterback.”

In the beginning of the episode, Dee really wanted to show the gang that she was capable of being a good leader and said that she wanted to be the quarterback of the team. While the gang initially reminded her that this is only a title reserved for men, Dee ends up changing their minds. Dee escapes Dennis’s sex dungeon by climbing out the window to his surprise, as he mentions that no one else has been able to do so. Dee accidentally falls off the ledge and says she is going to sue the makers of the game. The woman who ran the game explains that nothing like this has ever happened before. Luckily Dee is all right, but she is at the hospital with the rest of the gang by her side. The woman reluctantly takes their photo even though they didn’t win the game, but they quickly convince her that they did in fact win in their own way. The gang tells Dee, “You really were the quarterback,” allowing her to rejoice in a temporary moment of victory. The gang certainly proved to be up for any challenge, but I’m still not sure they understand the concept of teamwork. Either way, a win is a win and I am definitely on team Sunny! Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Purge” season 1 episode 2: “It’s My Right To Purge”

Happy Wednesday TV fans! After watching the USA network’s The Purge season 1 episode 2 last night, I realized how terrifying it is when “purging” seems like the only answer to our problems. While life may throw us a series of “curve balls,” it doesn’t mean that picking up the bat is the only answer, as the voice over the radio suggested. Even though “life has this way of undermining your expectations,” there is always another option. There is still good to be done even though it may only flicker quietly on Purge Night. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In last night’s episode, “Take What’s Yours,” we learn more about Jane’s past and begin to understand her motives on Purge Night. Meanwhile, Miguel continues to try and find his sister, but ends up caught up in some kind of horror fun zone race, Rick and Jenna interact with Lila separately, and Penelope witnesses the consequences of going against the order of the “good leader.” My top 5 moments from The Purge season 1 episode 2 are:

“Are you sure you’re good?”

After Lila makes her grand entrance into the party, Rick and Jenna react differently. Jenna is clearly more impacted at this time and I began to really wonder about the strength of her marriage to Rick, who doesn’t even seem to really notice that she is clearly not “good” in this situation. Rick leaves Jenna to go work on his business deal, but this doesn’t really seem like the right call when his wife seems like she is about to have some kind of emotional meltdown just at the sight of Lila. While we begin to put the pieces together here, it seems like more secrets are about to unravel, but will this escalate into a potential purge? We’ll have to stay tuned to find out.

“I made a mistake. I don’t want to die.”

During the episode, Penelope tries to comfort her friend on the bus, who is having second thoughts about “stepping into the invisible.” Penelope explains that “pain is temporary” and that after the death of her parents, she was aimlessly searching for an escape, but that the “good leader” saved her and showed her the right path. Penelope is convinced that she will see her parents and that “it will all be love in the end,” but her friend is still not ready to give herself up as a sacrifice. Naturally, the “good leader” has chosen Penelope’s friend as the next sacrifice, but she begins hysterically crying and screaming that she doesn’t want to die. Penelope courageously tries to take her place, but her request is harshly turned down, as her friend is dragged off the bus. Penelope hears her friend crying out to her for help, as two men in masks drag her away. Is this enough to snap Penelope back into reality?

“I want to be all about the future.”

During the party, Lila approaches Jenna and Rick separately. When she speaks to Jenna, there is something genuine and sweet about her actions and words toward her. Jenna seems hesitant to get close to Lila, but is happy that she is doing so well. However, when Lila approaches Rick, she is more seductive and taunting, calling him the “man of the hour” and reminding him that she has already seen him naked. Rick is not amused by her behavior and continues to try and avoid her, but Lila and Jenna cross paths again, which escalates into a private moment between them. Lila tells Jenna that she thinks she is perfect and the two begin kissing passionately. Lila seems to have genuine feelings for Jenna, but does she love her enough to force Rick out of the equation? Is this all some kind of sick and twisted game for her to eliminate the competition? Either way, the scandal between these three is far from over.

“Sometimes it feels like purging is the only answer.”

During the episode, we get a more detailed flashback into Jane’s past. We learn that she is someone who has worked extremely hard for everything and tries to follow her own moral compass. While it is clear that Jane deserves a promotion to partner, her boss, David, seems to have another agenda. David is clearly a womanizer and drops several hints to Jane of his intentions. Jane is honorable and refuses to stoop to this level. She is passed over for partner despite all of her hard work, which makes her question who she is as a person. When she hires the woman to complete the purge on her behalf, Jane insists on giving her a reason why, revealing that she is a good person deep down, but she is tired of being stepped on over and over again. Will Jane be able to go through with this? Will she be able to live with the consequences? I’m not so sure, as it seems like she is a genuine person who is just conflicted.

“You live, you win. You die, you lose.”

Miguel is still on his quest to find the bus and his sister, but the distractions and obstacles keep coming his way. Miguel ends up on some kind of sick game show called the “Purge Night Gauntlet,” which involves him running through some kind of house of horrors fun zone while being broadcasted live. Miguel shows off his skills and takes out everyone in his way, but is not too interested in winning once he crosses the finish line. He desperately tries to get a message out to his sister over the camera, determined to find her no matter what. Miguel still has quite the journey ahead of him, but he is proving to be a hero we can root for, capable of saving lives and kicking some serious ass. While we don’t know who we can really trust, it’s safe to say that Miguel is definitely one of the good guys. I’m interested to see where his journey takes him to next. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The Affair” season 4 episode 2: “What are you doing in 5 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days?”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching Showtime’s The Affair last night, I learned that it is possible for people to change and that sometimes we need to realize when it’s time to let go. That’s easier said than done, however; as we all have something we cling to from our past. Whether it is a memory, a feeling, or something material, sometimes it’s enough to allow us to keep the past alive without it impacting our present and future. But what happens when we can’t let something go? Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In last night’s episode, “402,” Cole meets with new potential business partners and decides on whether or not to franchise “The Lobster Roll.” Meanwhile, Alison is thriving at her new job at the Woodlawn Center and meets a heroic stranger who has the potential to spark a new romance in her life. My top 5 moments from The Affair season 4 episode 2 are:

Luisa gets pulled over.

Part one of the episode opens up with Cole and we learn that he is still with Luisa, but that she is undocumented and unable to obtain her green card. While living in a small town where everyone knows Cole has its advantages, Luisa runs into some unexpected trouble when she gets pulled over by a police officer when she is driving Cole home from the beach. Luisa starts shaking in the car and Cole holds her hand, as he tries comforting her and letting her know that everything will be alright. Luckily, the police officer gets another call that he needs to respond to and he lets Luisa off with a warning, but this scare is enough to bring her fears to the surface. I found myself holding my breath in this moment as well, but I don’t think this is the last time that we will see a potential problem for Luisa.

“We’re not in high school anymore.”

Cole and Luisa are meeting with potential business partners and Alison is late for the meeting. Alison is still Cole’s business partner, but he often feels like he is alone on this. Alison finally makes it to the meeting, but Cole is not happy with her. After the business partners leave, he asks Alison to “show up on time” and to “dry your hair.” Alison is surprised by Cole’s focus on appearances and asks him, “Since when do you care so much what city people think?” Times have changed, however; and Cole is right when he reminds her that they are not in high school anymore. It seems like Cole is desperate to go back to the past, however. He has a steady marriage to someone who truly loves him and the chance to make some real money, but Cole is still not happy. Even though he made the decision to be with Luisa, it seems like some part of him will always be with Alison. Will he ever be able to get over her? Is there any chance that they can still make things work after so much time and so much pain caused by both parties?

“You can’t shoot someone just because they drew on your face.”

After Cole wanders off alone on the beach at night, he comes across some of the surfers he ran into earlier and decides to sit down with them. Cole seems anxious to turn off his feelings anyway he can and zones out periodically, listening to the sound of the waves in the background. When Cole wakes up on the beach, the kids are gone and he discovers that they drew all over his face. Cole is furious, but Luisa makes light of the situation when she puts things into perspective. Later in the episode, Cole comes face to face with one of the kids who did this to him and threatens to call the police, but the kid gives him an unwanted dose of reality when he reminds him that his brother sold him the first drugs he ever did. It seems like Cole is unable to escape his past and reputation and is in desperate need of a fresh start. But is he ready for this step?

“It’s also something you and I built together.”

In part two, we see everything from Alison’s perspective and view the conversation between her and Cole differently. Alison seems ready to give up “The Lobster Roll” and reminds Cole that it was more of his brother’s dream than his. Cole confides in Alison and reminds her that it’s something they built together, revealing that he is still trying to hold on to something from the past. Alison seems ready to move on, but Cole is unable to break this hold she seems to have over him. While it appears that Alison is ultimately going to pursue someone else romantically, the feelings between Alison and Cole are still present underneath the surface, but nothing stays buried for long.

“What are you doing in 5 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days?”

In part two, we get a glimpse into Alison’s new life and I have to say I am so proud of her. Ever since I began watching the show, Alison reminded me of a wounded bird in desperate need of rescuing. The pain brewing inside her was so real and painful to watch and I couldn’t help but be sympathetic toward her. Alison relied heavily on actions of self-destruction, addicted to numbing the pain anyway she could, but times have really changed and it seems like completely immersing herself into her memories of Gabriel have been the key to getting her back on the right track. Alison does peer-to-peer counseling at the Woodlawn center and seems to really be making a difference with the people she is counseling. Alison is even strong enough to keep a photo of Gabriel right next to one of Joanie, which proves that she is finally dealing with the past in a healthy and acceptable way. Alison meets a dashing stranger named Ben who used to serve in the military and sparks are immediately detected between these two. When Alison is violently confronted by the husband of her patient, Ben comes to her rescue and saves her. This leads to a long conversation over a cup of coffee where Alison learns quite a bit about Ben and is intrigued by his commitment to staying sober and abstinent. It seems like they both have complicated pasts, but are ready to move on. Ben explains that he wants to meet someone where he doesn’t need to get wasted because he won’t want to miss any of it and Alison tells him she thinks that he is fascinating. After saying goodbye to Alison, he later calls her on Skype and asks her what she is doing in “5 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days,” recognizing that Alison is certainly worth the wait. It seems like Alison finally has the chance at a healthy relationship, but I can’t help wondering if the mystery surrounding her possible disappearance has to do with Ben? We will have to stay tuned to find out, but I am very excited to see this new romance unfold for Alison.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Younger” season 5 episode 2: “Maybe I can Slide into your DMs.”

Happy Wednesday TV fans! After watching TV Land’s Younger season 5 episode 2 last night, I learned that sometimes pretending can become a full time job and take a heavy toll on us. Whether it means displaying a fake smile or a disingenuous upbeat tone to our voice, sooner or later it catches up to us and all we want to do is scream something real. While sometimes it’s appropriate to pretend in many situations, it’s important that we never compromise who we are and what we stand for in the process. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In last night’s episode, “A Titanic Problem,” Charles tries to deal with the new information he has obtained about Liza, but is having a hard time with it. Meanwhile, Josh returns from Ireland, Lauren launches her new business idea, and Liza comes up with an idea to help Millennial. My top 5 moments from Younger season 5 episode 2 are:

“We’re not great. We’re Heller Good.”

The outrageous and outspoken Lauren is back in episode 2, played by Molly Kate Bernard, and she is ready to launch her new PR firm. Everyone seems excited to see her video promoting it and it starts out harmless enough, but ends with a cheetah with Lauren’s face on it. Kelsey hesitantly asks her if she’s sure she wants to say she’s not great, but Lauren is extremely excited about inserting her name into “Heller Good.” Lauren is known for being a bit eccentric and over-the-top and it’s great to see her focus her energy on creating her new business venture, but I’m looking forward to seeing her grow as a character and get a noteworthy story-line.

“Reese Witherspoon’s Pick.”

In the beginning of the episode, we get some exciting news that Pauline’s book, “Marriage Vacation” is now being included in Reese Witherspoon’s book club. Liza and Kelsey are ecstatic and they get to sit down with someone from her team to discuss details. While Empirical Press is in trouble after the scandal with Edward L.L. Moore, this is the right kind of publicity that will really shift Millennial into the spotlight. Well deserved ladies!

“Maybe I can slide into your DMs. Did I say that right?”

After Josh returns, Liza casually mentions that she didn’t hear from him and he explains that he sent her a DM. Liza is hilariously confused by the meaning of this and Kelsey and Josh break it down for her. Liza tries to work it into the conversation later at work, but mistakenly says she is “slipping” into DMs. Kelsey explains the correct lingo and then also tells her that it sounds like she may be looking to initiate something romantic when she says that. As if this wasn’t already hilarious enough, Diana tries to work the phrase into her vocabulary to ensure she is hip and says to Lauren, “Maybe I can slide into your DMs,” with confidence. Once Lauren walks away, she frantically asks if she said it right, which keeps the laughs coming.

“Everything’s going to be OK.”

When Josh returns from Ireland, it initially seems like everything is fine and that he is just waiting for Claire to arrive. However, he later confides to Liza that she is not coming back. Josh breaks down crying on Liza’s shoulder and asks, “What the hell’s wrong with me?” Liza consoles Josh and is there for him completely as a friend, but we know that romantic sparks are never really extinguished between these two. I have always been Team Josh even though I do often find myself shipping Liza and Charles too, but Josh’s feelings toward Liza are so real and epic. That being said, Josh has a lot of growing up to do, as he wears his emotions on his sleeve and often makes impetuous decisions that lead to disastrous results. He is in his 20’s and mistakes are going to happen, but will he finally see what’s been right in front of him all this time? Liza may have lied to Josh, but her feelings have always been genuine and the chemistry between these two is undeniable. But will these two finally get a chance to have a real relationship without all of the drama mixed in?

“I am not good at pretending.”

Charles has no idea how to process the information he has been given about Liza. We see him looking through the newspaper clippings of her marriage and old photos and then witness the confusion written all over his face when he glances down at Liza’s funky outfit at work. After speaking with his friend who is a lawyer, he is given the advice that he needs to keep on pretending that she is 27 because another work scandal could be catastrophic. Charles continues to bottle up his feelings and tries to avoid Liza as much as possible. When Liza pitches the incubator deal, he initially says he has to think about it because his mind is cluttered with way too much baggage at the moment. At the end of the episode, Charles is finally direct with Pauline and tells her that he doesn’t love her anymore. While these words harshly cut right to the point, Charles is overwhelmed by how much he has to pretend and he can’t handle pretending with Pauline too. Charles’s feelings for Liza clearly complicate this situation even further, but will he be able to accept her knowing that she has lied to him over and over? Even though he has been advised to keep pretending, will Charles ultimately confront Liza? Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “The 100” season 5 episode 2: “You are Wonkru or you’re the Enemy of Wonkru”

Happy Wednesday TV fans! After watching the CW’s The 100 season 5 episode 2 last night, I learned that becoming a leader is harder than one thinks. It’s not about being the strongest warrior or coming up with the smartest plan, but about someone who is willing to sacrifice everything for the greater good of his or her people. The choices will never be close to easy, but someone has to make them. Octavia comes to realize this rather quickly when she is trying out her new role as “Commander,” but proves to be an unstoppable force of strength and decisiveness. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In last night’s episode, “Red Queen,” Octavia’s words of “Wonkru,” which literally mean one crew, sound like a nice sentiment, but the different clans are still on edge, desperately trying to survive in the bunker and refusing to all get along. Meanwhile, Abby hears Clarke knocking on the door and Jaha accepts his final destiny, but not before providing Octavia with some words of wisdom. My top 5 moments from The 100 season 5 episode 2 are:

“Symbols matter Octavia.”

While Octavia is responsible for saving everyone in the bunker, not everyone is accepting her as their new leader. Indra is still at her side, however; and tries to remind her about the importance of symbols. Octavia wears the gear on her forehead to remind everyone that she is the Commander, but Indra’s daughter, Gaia explains that the Order of the Flame will not support a red-blooded commander. While Gaia is bound by tradition and protocol, Indra reminds her that “your real commander would have let you burn.” We are no longer in a world on The Ark or on the ground, as the bunker has brought everyone together and not by choice. Survival is at the top of everyone’s list, but we know that life in the bunker will certainly have its challenges.

Abby hears Clarke.

When everyone is in the bunker deciding what to do next, a faint knocking is heard and Abby knows right away that it is her daughter, Clarke. Marcus attempts to calm her down, but Abby will do anything to get to her daughter. They quickly discover that there is something sealing the hatch entrance, which creates a bigger problem than just getting to Clarke. There is only one hatch entrance currently in the bunker and they will not all be able to survive after five years if they are not able to get out. This is not Marcus’s first encounter with a hatch, as the Lost fan in me immediately thinks back to Henry Ian Cusick’s days as Desmond Hume, when he was living in a bunker for three years, pushing a button to save the world before the survivors from Flight 815 decide to blow the hatch door wide open. Perhaps there is an idea after all. While food rationing seems like the first step toward maintaining survival, there is also the problem of finding the appropriate equipment so that they can make it out after five years. The problems keep on coming, as Octavia and the others realize that population reduction has reared its ugly head yet again.

“We’re taking back what’s ours.”

A select few from Skaikru start to realize the inevitability of population reduction and decide to seal themselves into the farm and leave everyone else to fend for themselves. Abby tries to explain that their deaths will not be painless or quick. Rather, they will be slow and agonizing and that no one would want that guilt on their hands. Panic has led to rash decisions and Octavia must embrace her role as a leader to get back into the farm and bring some order to her people. Octavia removes the gear from her forehead, explaining that it is more of a target than a symbol. While the plan to take back the farm seems far-fetched, any plan is better than no plan.

“I think his fight is over.”

An instrumental part of the plan is for Jaha to put his engineering skills to the test and to get the door open to the farm, but we learn that he is severely injured. Jaha has dealt with his fair share of burdens as a leader, but desperately wants to be with his wife and son again. In his final moments, Jaha asks Octavia to take care of the boy he has been watching over and looks to say goodbye to his old friend, Marcus who comforts him with his prayer. “May we meet again.” Jaha’s death reminds us that his days of a leader are long over and the torch has now been passed to Octavia. But does she have what it takes to do what is necessary to lead?

“You are Wonkru or you’re the enemy of Wonkru.”

Before Jaha dies, Octavia reveals her hesitation about becoming a leader when she says, “I am not a leader…I’m a warrior.” Jaha talks to her about the decisions he made in the past, which included the decision to execute her mother when the rules were broken. Jaha tries to get Octavia to see the big picture and to “know what it takes to lead.” He explains that there is always a war and a good leader will focus on the enemy and how to stop it. Octavia finds the leader within her and knows what she must do. She tells everyone around her that “you are Wonkru or you’re the enemy of Wonkru.” Any time someone attacked her, Octavia struck them down, proving to be an unstoppable force. With each objection, she took down her enemy while repeating her words over and over again, until everyone understood that they really are Wonkru. Octavia offers the guilty the chance to fight for their freedom. “Win the fight. Save your life.” While this certainly helps with the population reduction issue at hand, what happens when someone Octavia cares about ends up in the fighting pit? We’re about to find out, as the ending scene reveals Marcus to be in that very situation.

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4 episode 2: “No one’s gone till they’re gone”

Happy Tuesday TV fans! After watching AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 2, I learned that a baseball stadium can actually serve as the perfect place for survival in the zombie apocalypse. After all, you have a field for crops, a PA system to warn you of oncoming attacks, and showers. Did I mention showers? I have to admit that out of all the places we have seen the characters from The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead hold up in; this settlement really seems the most promising. Time will tell if it will last, however. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In last night’s episode, “Another Day in the Diamond,” we learn that Madison and the gang found the baseball stadium and decided to turn it into a settlement after everything they went through. While we are still missing a chunk of time and don’t know exactly all of the details that led to this, we do get some flashes, reminding us that these characters have survived quite a lot and are still standing. Meanwhile, Madison risks her life to save a stranger, a child is not who she says she is, and we meet the people responsible for the numbered flags, who seem to be the new big bad in town. My top 5 moments from Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 2 are:

Nick tries not to let his fear get the best of him.

Nick has always been one of the strongest and most resourceful characters on the show. When the going got rough, he would head off on his own and face unthinkable threats. He learned to adapt to his surroundings and make hard choices, but he always radiated an inner strength. At the end of season 3, Nick made a difficult choice and attempted to sacrifice himself on the bridge and blow it up to protect his family. Throughout the episode, Nick had several flashes back to this event and it clearly traumatized him into a stagnant fear. Nick never leaves the baseball stadium and has anxiety when he tries to head off into the parking lot. Although Nick is clearly making an effort to get over what happened, his inner demons won’t go away just yet.

“No one’s gone until they’re gone.”

Madison has fully embraced her role as leader and is trying to help everyone in her settlement. She has really connected with a young girl named Charlie and desperately wants to help her find her family. When they go out looking for answers, Madison crosses paths with a survivor named Naomi who is played by Jenna Elfman. Naomi pulls a gun on Madison, but is quickly surrounded by Alicia, Luciana, and Victor. She tries to escape but falls into some sort of oil tank. She is surrounded by walkers and it seems like she is out of luck, but Madison risks her life to jump in and help her. We know that Madison is never afraid to get dirty and proves to be an unstoppable force, even covered in oil and gunk. Madison brings Naomi back to their settlement and we learn that she used to be a nurse which will certainly come in handy. Madison has a genuine conversation with Naomi and reveals that she almost lost her family because of the decisions she made before. Madison is always moving and doing something, as if she’s almost afraid to be alone with her thoughts and memories, worrying that they could break her down. Like Nick, Madison has been traumatized on some level, but decides to keep busy and help others to numb the pain.

Charlie is not who she says she is.

Throughout the episode, I found it interesting that there seemed to be a lot of focus on this little girl, but the Clark family has clearly taken her in under their wing. Nick even asks Luciana to find her another book so that she has something to pass the time with and Madison attempts to build her a bedroom. Even though Madison and the others have been betrayed before, they open their settlement and heart to Charlie, trusting in the innocence of a child. We later learn that Charlie is part of the “Vultures” group which has come to take over the settlement from Madison. Charlie has been providing them with intel and they even know who Nick is and about the turnips going bad. While Charlie remains quiet when she joins her “family,” it’s clear that no one saw this coming.

Meet Mel.

In episodes 1 and 2, we see numbered flags along the way. Mel and his group drive up to the stadium and demonstrate how they handle walkers. While Mel does not seem like a forceful threat, he does want something and is willing to wait patiently to get it. He tells Madison that he wants them to listen. He proposes that they give them their stuff and live or that they can wait for them to die and take it anyway. While we don’t know much about Mel just yet, he seems very calm and rational. He pulls up a chair in the parking lot and seems to think he’s right about everything. The threat is a real one however; and Madison must decide carefully what to do next.

“We’re not going anywhere.”

After listening to Mel, Madison confidently stands up to him and lets him know that they worked hard to build up their settlement and they are not going to just hand it over to him. Mel tells her that they will be tested, but Madison is a very capable and strong leader. We know that she will do anything to protect her own, but is she ready for a new threat? At the end of the episode, we finally catch up to present day and the end of episode 1. Alicia initially thinks that Morgan, Al, and John are working with the Vultures, which is why they hold them at gun point. After they clear up this misunderstanding, Alicia demands that they show them where they found the “51” flag. While we don’t know how much time has passed between then and now, we know that the Vultures have got everyone on edge. Stay tuned!

Ranking the top 5 moments from “Ash vs Evil Dead” season 3 episode 2: “I need a Por Favor”

Happy Monday TV fans! After watching Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 2 last night, I think it’s important to remember what’s truly important in terms of fatherhood. While bonding and swapping stories may seem like the right play, perhaps filtering them for what’s appropriate might come in handy…. unless you are Ash Williams that is. Please note spoilers are ahead if you have not gotten a chance to watch the latest episode yet. In last night’s episode, “Booth Three,” Ash is having some trouble connecting with his daughter, Brandy. While he desperately tries to be a “cool dad,” it looks like he will have to find something more meaningful to connect to her on. Meanwhile, Ruby has set her sights on Brandy and is posing as the school’s guidance counselor, Pablo is hearing voices, Dalton reveals he is gluten free, and Ash gets into a sticky predicament at the sperm bank. My top 5 moments from Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 2 are:

Pablo is hearing voices.

The ancient text from “The Book of the Dead” is back and insists on re-surfacing on Pablo’s body. While it seems like it is merely causing him some discomfort at first, the side-effects are getting worse. Pablo begins hearing voices and even hallucinates about a naked woman in a mask. She warns him that only his uncle’s magic can save him, but will Pablo take her advice? Kelly refuses to believe that Pablo’s soul is in mortal danger, despite the warning from Dalton. She knows that Pablo can fight it and is nothing but good, but Dalton thinks he could still go demon. Either “he kills us or we kill him.” Perhaps there is a happy medium between all of the killing that Kelly can come up with to save her best friend.

Ash teaches the gang about “Multi-tasking.”

After listening to Dalton provide some history on the “demon woman of fire,” which is clearly Ruby, we learn about his role in protecting the prophesied one. Ash has heard enough, however; and expresses his gratitude to Dalton: “thanks for the scoop poindexter.” Ash has a lot on his mind with dealing with the threat of evil and accepting his new role as a father so he suggests that they “gotta do that thing when you’re driving in a car putting on deodorant…what’s that called?” Oh right…multi-tasking. While it seems like a good enough suggestion, will Ash be too distracted to handle the deadites heading his way?

Ruby has a career change.

In the beginning of the episode, we learn that Ash’s daughter, Brandy’s guidance counselor has been trying to reach her, which seems innocent enough. However, we quickly learn that Mrs. Prevett is Ruby in disguise. She eagerly comforts Brandy while pressing her for information, but what does she want with Ash’s daughter? Well after giving birth to a baby from “The Book of the Dead” that will literally eat your face off, she is ready for her child to grow up to be the new prophesied one and must eliminate Ash and his seed, Brandy in order for this to happen. We learn that her baby was “born from the image of Ash but will be nothing like him,” so it looks like Ash will need to get this fatherhood thing down quickly if he’s going to be ready.

“I’m one of those cool dads like you see in the movies.”

Brandy doesn’t really seem to be buying into Ash’s “cool dad” act too much especially after losing her mother and her best friend in such a violent and horrible way. Ash decides to try and bond with Brandy, which seems like the right call, until he goes into specific details about his sexcapades with her mom, forcing poor Brandy to tune out Ashy Slashy with the radio. It is going to take some time for Brandy to accept Ash into her heart, but hopefully she will trust her father enough to protect her from the forces of evil.

“That is a long sad story.”

Ash pays his favorite sperm bank a visit and requests “Booth Three,” but comes to the realization that someone else might be using his sperm and that he could have a whole football team of Williams kids ready to knock down his door and ruin his life. He requests a “por favor” and asks if anyone has used his sperm which is against the law. Luckily for Ash, he has brought a 20 percent off coupon to his store. After compromising on 30 percent off, Ash is in business. He takes this opportunity to occupy Booth Three with one of his favorite dirty magazines, but things go horribly wrong when evil bursts in and Ash literally gets attacked by the woman in his magazine. While the deadites are clearly after Ash’s sperm to destroy any future threats, Ash’s fantasy quickly becomes a nightmare. Right before he shoves the magazine in a drawer the woman screams that “I’m not finished yet,” and Ash teaches her a valuable lesson when he explains “that’s what they all say baby.” While this all happens before Ash can obtain the information he needs, it’s apparent that Ruby is behind this, clearing the way for her own baby to rule the world and destroy everything and everyone in its path.
